I thought I lost you
(Ghost x Soap)
Chapter 18 excerpt from Don't Let Me Go on ao3.
Ghost loses it when he thinks he's lost Soap forever. When they are reunited, Ghost can barely contain his emotions. And his desire.
(Soap POV)
“Price, we need a pickup!” Soap panted into the walkie as he continued to sprint full speed. Soap tried to listen beyond Ghost’s foots for any sign of the guards still chasing them, but couldn’t make anything out.
“We see you two on the GPS,” Gaz responded. “We’re looking for an intercept point.”
“Do you have aerial reconnaissance?”
After a moment of silence, “I’m not seeing any hostiles nearby.”
Soap breathed out a sigh of relief as he slowed his sprint into a light jog and then a walk. He naturally continued walking forward, trying to catch his breath. He paced back and forth a few times with his hands on his hips before crouching on the forest floor.
God damn his feet were killing him.
Soap shifted on the tips of his toes and placed his hand on a nearby tree to help balance himself.
Suddenly, he was knocked off his feet by a blurry force hitting his side, causing him to roll backwards. For a moment, adrenaline coursed through Soap’s veins as he prepared himself to fight before he realized who it was.
Ghost’s large body crowded his as he wrapped his arms tightly around Soap. Ghost’s hand came up to cup the back of Soap’s head just before they tumbled onto the ground together.
Soap sucked in a breath as Ghost tried to press their bodies together awkwardly but both of Soap’s legs were bent to the side. Soap shifted his knee to the other side of Ghost and their bodies instantly slotted up against one another. With his feet still planted on the ground, Soap tightened his knees around Ghost’s hips.
Soap naturally wrapped his arms around Ghost’s waist in the small space below his vest and Ghost buried his head into the crook of Soap’s neck. In response, Soap’s heart skipped a beat and a small gasp escaped his lips. His chest bloomed with warmth, feeling Ghost’s strong and safe arms wrapped around his body.
Soap closed his eyes to relish the moment, yearning settling into every one of his cells and flowing throughout his body with every heartbeat. Every part of their bodies that touched felt like it was on fire.
For the first time in his life, Soap cursed the bullet-proof vest that created an unbearable amount of space between them. As he held the other man, Soap could feel that Ghost was shaking slightly.
“I thought I lost you…” Ghost whispered, his voice barely audible over the rustling of the leaves.
“I’m here…” Soap whispered back, his chest clenching tightly. He rested his cheek against the top of Ghost’s head and rubbed small circles into his back. They stayed like this, holding each other tightly in their arms as Soap took deep breaths trying to calm his racing heart. “I’m here, Simon… I’m always here…”
After almost a minute, Ghost slowly unwound his arm from around Soap’s back and placed his hand on the ground next to his head, propping himself up a few inches. He looked down at Soap with intense softness in his eyes. His eyes then flicked down to Soap’s lips, causing his heart to clench tightly once again. Rather than glancing away, Ghost continued to stare, his eyes hungry with want.
Oh God… he was so close.
The hand resting on the back of Soap’s head slowly slid around until it came to a rest cupping his cheek. Soap suddenly became vividly aware that Ghost hands were bare – his gloves having been abandoned sometime during the chase. His thumb came to gently rest on the very edge of Soap’s lip, pulling it down slightly.
Soap tilted his head back a bit to raise his chin, his lips moving in closer.
He wanted nothing more than to taste the feel of Ghost’s lips against his. Ghost’s breath hitched as it looked like he was leaning forward and-

I grab Baz, manoeuvring him towards a tree bole that overhangs the stream. I tuck us both amongst the arching roots. His tail, longer than his legs, folds up close. The scales slide against me, oddly smooth.
