Hi, fam! Okay, so I'm going to be out at an appointment tomorrow morning, so I'm kicking this off a little bit early. It's technically Wednesday in several timezones and very nearly Wednesday in mine. I'm... also a bit eager to share this, ngl.

I know that I've shared a lot of angst lately, but I swear that's not all I'm doing. 😅 In fact, the actor/playwright AU decided to wallop me in the face out of nowhere after sitting in my WIP folder for months. I'm really excited about it, so I'm gonna share the first scene!

(Also, those of you who have been to New York with me will recognize my favorite brunch spot in this scene lmao.)

You probably didn't even know I was in the room, but I noticed you straight away. You were talking with your friends, happy and animated and fully alive—a person living in dimensions I couldn’t access—and so beautiful. Your hair was longer then. You were the center of attention, but you weren’t afraid. You had a yellow ipê-amarelo in your pocket. I thought, this is the most incredible thing I have ever seen; I'd better keep it a safe distance away from me. I thought, if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire.

INT. MOM'S KITCHEN & BAR - HELL'S KITCHEN - LATE MORNING

"I'm telling y'all," Alex is saying, punctuating with dangerously large bites of his pancake burrito. "The dude's a dick." 

It's been two hours since the nightmare audition, but Alex has been on this tirade since June and Nora first slid into the retro diner chairs across from him (at least forty-five minutes ago).

They're at Mom's: a restaurant-bar in midtown that can only be described as millennial nostalgia incarnate. The trio fell in love with it two years back—post-karaoke, stumbling in right before closing—when Alex saw God in their Fruity Pebble pancakes.  Since then, it's been his favorite place to eat his feelings.

Mom's is just really fucking comforting in general, honestly; whether it's the televisions cycling through episodes of 'Rugrats,' 'Dexter's Laboratory,' and 'Hey, Arnold!' or  the rainbow straws and Lisa-Frank-looking menus, Alex can't be sure. It doesn't hurt that they've made friends with several of the waitstaff, including an eccentric bartender, Pez, whose pink hair and painted nails fit right in with the decor. 

Today, it's the combination of breakfast sausage, bacon, eggs and cheese wrapped up in a syrup-soaked pancake that's really doing something for him. It could also be the margarita the size of his face, which Pez placed in front of him before making himself uncharacteristically scarce. But it's fine. He's probably just busy.

Alex won't admit it out loud, but what really helps is having June and Nora here to talk to… even though Nora is scrolling on her phone.

"I'm sorry," June says. She pokes an ice cube with her straw, and Alex watches as it bobs around her mimosa like a buoy. "That sounds like it sucked, but if he's really that rude… maybe you didn't want to work with him anyway."

Nora doesn't look up as she pops a home fry into her mouth. 

"Several sources say he's difficult to work with," she adds, evidently reading about Henry on the internet. "Though, in his defense, his dad did just die, like, three years ago… and there was that whole thing when he came out after. Remember?"

Alex does remember. Henry's grandmother, Mary Mountchristen, runs a pretty major company that used to own half the theatres on the West End. When Henry came out last year, she tried blacklisting his shows from her properties to punish him—which totally backfired when it got around. At least a dozen other queer writers and producers started talking about how they were also denied the space, and Mary was stoned on the streets of the theatre district. Like, metaphorically. 

Alex, Nora, and June had just moved to New York, but between June's position at Newsday and both Alex and Nora on the audition circuit, it was all anyone in their new circles could talk about. They were some of the first to know when the Mountchristens were bought out of their properties and Henry moved to the States.

This show is the first of Henry's being produced here—and it's autobiographical, which Alex has to admit is pretty fucking baller. So, yeah, Nora's not wrong. He has reason to be standoffish. Still, it doesn't explain why Alex was only halfway through his audition monologue when Henry abruptly stood up and exited stage left as if pursued by a bear.

He shoves another forkful into his mouth. "It's just, like, they're the only people who let me into the room," he says, barely finishing chewing. "Nobody wants to take me seriously, and I really thought this was my shot, you know?"

June and Nora both know Alex is having a hard time landing serious roles after growing up on a sitcom—Nora more than most, as his former co-star. What they don't know is that losing this role, specifically, feels like a kick to the stomach. From the moment Alex saw the script, he wanted to be a part of it. He can't even explain why, and now he'll never figure it out. Henry wouldn't give him a chance.

"It wasn't your only shot, and you know it." Nora fixes him with a look. "Seriously, I get it—I do—but it's just one play, buddy."

June nods. "Something will happen for you, baby brother."

At that, Alex finally groans. "Okay, calling me baby brother doesn't help me feel better about the entertainment industry infantili—"

"—itty bitty, teeny weeny—"

Alex throws a home fry at her face. 

It bounces off her forehead and into the giant gauntlet holding her mimosa with a very unappetizing splash. Just as Alex throws his hands into the air with a victorious whoop, his phone buzzes on the table. 

A glance is all it takes for him to see that it's his agent, Zahra.

"Damn," he says, deflating. There goes that upswing. "You answer it."

June balks. "Me?"

"I don't need to hear how fucking badly it went. Trust me, I got the message." Alex blinks innocently, like he's six years old again, asking her to lie to their mom about that broken vase. "Please, Bug? Besides, Zahra actually likes you."

"Everyone likes me." June rolls her eyes, but she caves—answering the phone with a haughty, "Alex Claremont-Diaz's office," before breaking into a smile. "Yeah, Z. It's me… No, Alex is feeling a little sensitive today."

(He throws another home fry at her. This one misses.)

To her credit, June's face remains totally blank as Zahra no doubt tells her how Alex insulted Henry Fox's name and all of his inbred ancestors just by showing up, or whatever—which is extremely annoying and unhelpful—but, once she says goodbye and sets the phone back down on the table, her face breaks out into a grin.

"Guess you didn't suck too bad," she says. "They want you for the part."

He doesn't know if it's Nora throwing herself at him or the shock that knocks him onto the floor.

happy holidays! im in the middle of completely remaking my downloads folder to hopefully finally go back to playing this game, and im also cleaning up my wips to finally release some stuff out of the dungeon. i know that some of these have been done already, but i wanted some of them to share meshes, or have different subsets, or slots, or whatever. so, there.

i cloned the bookcase from a snowy escape bookcase conversion by tnw that michelle added slots to, it has 2 subsets (the bookcase and books). hobby > knowledge, obviously.

this wall hanging from werewolves, with 2 subsets (frame and image).

the charts from my first pet and growing together, i know that the former is already around, but i wanted them on the same mesh. the dinosaur from 'hopeful futures' is on the mesh, you can delete the mfp ones if you already have them

a tooth fairy sticker with some recolors from werewolves and high school years, the file names should be like the ones here so you can delete what you don't want (remember to dl the unmerged version for that). there's also a smaller add-on, repo'd to the big one

some more stuff from hsy, three of the 'snack attack' decals are neon-y so i included them both as normal stickers in their own mesh, and more glowy as part of the 'neon dreams' wall hanging

posters from growing together and werewolves. some of them were originally on a slightly dog-eared mesh, so i included that one too to be faithful to the originals, it's repo'd to the straight one

i converted these city living scrolls last year and they got stuck waiting for me to be done w some other stuff i was working on at that time, idk if that will ever happen so i might just put them here now. technically they're not all called 'crescent cityscapes' (thats just the first one) but i didn't rename the recolors to fit their ts4 names.

growing together + some white trees from parenthood, all on one mesh. again, delete what you don't want (except the one 'hoots there?' decal that's the mesh)

I think I have a problem when it comes to writing Shadowheart/Nocturne. I can't seem to write anything other than fics like this for them. Rich with angst and yearning - even when they're technically together - but also full of potential points of light.

This is probably the last fic like this that I'll be writing for a bit. I'm back on my Shadowheart/Tav obsession in terms of WIPs, which means I gotta go make everyone happy again, but I figured I'd edit this and post it so that it doesn't just rot in my folders...

Ranging from cute stuff like their wings popping out when they're flustered/enamoured as a mating display (they have no idea why their wings are spontaneously appearing, nor why it is so important they must be IMPECCABLY GROOMED AT ALL TIMES). To more crack-ish stuff like a stupid mating dance (e.g. the apology dance. Cue the 'why am I horny about this?' thoughts) or nesting. Idk, I just like the idea that they're cared for even at the basest level. Plus I'm a sucker for "IDK WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME" fantasy tropes.

The bentley x the bookshop, post season 2. This would be a forced proximity fic for A/C through the medium of their sentient houses (I mean technically Crowley lived in the bentley). This one is currently sitting in my WIP folder.

Streamer!au. A & C are competing channels with a rivalry that the viewers think is more real than it is. C & A are just like "haha, I'm being funny, making jokes about my friend." but they never clarify that they don't actually hate each other, so their fandoms are at war. Half way through, someone in the fandom make an enemies to lovers joke and so A/C becomes a crack ship, much to the mortification of C & A who are working through very real feelings.

Feel free to steal any of these. QE is about halfway done... ish? So I won't be getting to them in a while.

I have it in my WIP folder because i've talked about it so much to my boyfriend for the past *check notes* two years and a half at least apparently, that i decided to copy-paste my infodump into a Word document for easier access, but I have not technically started writing it 😆

It's set in my canon compliant/worldbuilding series. We don't have much in canon but it follows that: Gaara being called one night because Shinki is found causing some havoc and bringing him to the Kazekage Tower for the time being.

It includes :

A bunch of politics with Gaara and Kankurou trying to figure out where does Shinki come from and what happened to him, the answer to which includes some political scheming.

Some reflections about family, parenthood and parenting and Gaara and Kankurou's relationship with it, given that Gaara eventual opts for adopting Shinki, and that before that there are also both still in the "the Kazekage Clan need an heir" situation. I also think I want it to be the fic where they argue about their divergent feelings about Rasa ("He did his best with what he had" "The fuck no he didn't, he tried to kill you, several times." "Wouldn't you do it if I became a threat to the village? Isn't that your commitment to Suna?"), probably at the start, and then while they're upset with each other about it Shinki appears and they have to sort themselves out for it.

And also a lot of thing around Kankurou's relationship to children and his own childhood/youth, how seeing Shinki being cared for brings back to him the fact that it would have been possible to treat him differently when he was younger (see aforementioned arguement), how scared he is of becoming like his father and other abusive adults in his life when a vulnerable child is put into his hand, some more processing of all that, some appologies and formaive discussion with someone who has known him and seen him growin up, and the teaching that he will have to find a way because Shinki needs him, Gaara cannot do it alone, and there are things he's the only one to be able to provide for him (cue to the mandatory "Kankurou helping Shinki with his facepaint" scene).

I think I have most of the themes and important check point of the fic, but I need to seriously sit down to finish figuring out the politics (i will probably come and brainstorm that in the sand sib server), and also to have the time and will to start and finish a long fic, so I'm hoping this one is my 2025 project!

I also haven't really thoought out Baki in this, that's still uncertain. And for at least the first half Temari isn't around because until the point where the politics are a little figured out, the idea is the least people know about Shinki, the safest, but I also find it a bit disappointing that she wouldn't be here so. We'll see.

These are the wips that are partially published: a. At Thy Will - D/s AU, inspired by medieval marriage laws in the area that would later become Germany. I've talked a bit about it here before, it includes abusive relationships and fantasy sexism and also religious trauma b. The Tower Must Fall - unfortunately a bit neglected (but I plan on picking it back up, I promise), including assassin!Martin and witch!Jon slowburn enemies to lovers (Gerry is there, too!) c. A Treatise In Balance - basically just Jon getting snatched and turned into an avatar by each of the Fears. Includes art d. The Crackling Sound Of Magic - these are small fics where Jon is a mage in training under his cruel father Elias Bouchard and Martin is a kitchen hand in their household. also technically slowburn and lots of hurt/comfort because Jon keeps getting hurt

wips in my wip folder a. faerie!Jon - he's a faerie, Martin is human, he gets lost in the Otherworld's fog, Jon saves him. Oh, and soulmate AU, too :) b. Nothing But The City - inspired by UDAD, where Jonah (while wearing Elias like a suit) performs a series of cyborg-like surgeries on Jon to use him to take control over the City that once had a name that is now long lost to time c. another fantasy au with magic, inspired by occudo's art (that I still want to eat. so pretty). including apprentice!Jon, reluctant bodyguard!Martin, and exasperated and probably evil (but hot) long haired Elias d. Archive AU - Jon is a fully developed Eye monster, way beyond human. Nobody but Elias knows. Martin joins the Archive crew, accidentally makes friends with the monster via tea, and falls in love e. teacher!Jon in Scotland - you've read it before, you love it as much as I do: Scotland Safehouse Period forever, nothing bad happens and Jon gets adopted by a bunch of nosy teenagers f. nurse!Martin AU - Martin is a nurse who deals with Jon's worm wounds (gets section 31-ed) and keeps meeting him while Jon is injured. Features the good ol' anonymous online kinky relationship (and so much research because i don't even know how German hospitals work let alone British ones) g. Magnus Academy - more teacher!Jon, but in dark, with magic, murder, abuse, blackmail, discrimination, etc. h. The Fourteen Hauntings of Jonathan Sims, Librarian - more AUs! this time it's medium!Jon time (and medium!Martin). There's ghosts, and the town is called Nevermore :) i. Vampire Stuff - loosely based on The Fearless Vampire Killers (but the German musical, not necessarily the film), featuring vampire!Jon, vampire!Elias, human Martin, Tim, Sasha (yes, Jon is Herbert) j. Martin Knife Blackwood - established jonmartin, Jon wants to propose, Martin used to be in organised crime and the mob boss Peter Lukas comes for him, drama, blood, guns, etc. k. magical bookshop - more magic. including season 4 levels of sad Jon, a traumatised mute teenage kid who is accidentally adopted by said sad Jon. Jon has a bookshop that shows up at random. like the tardis but with less control even than the Doctor has l. toxic JonElias with endgame JonMartin - this one's not fleshed out at all, but basically Jon gets to make friends and escape Elias' clutches (no Fears AU)

My Karlach/Shadowheart ditty is still mostly brackets and bullet points in my WIPs folder, but I'm looking forward into making more words out of it one day soon! I'll ramble about it a little in the meantime.

Working title is "Absence", Shadowheart POV. Set in Act 2, just after Karlach's gotten her touch-enabling engine tune-up, but before Shadowheart's completed the Gauntlet of Shar. (Technically set in the same universe as my Astarion/Tav longfic, but they're busy off in the background, hehe). Shadowheart has gradually come out of her shell, and finds herself often acting on instincts that run contrary to Sharran teachings as she grows closer to the other tadfools. She's reprimanded by the sharp pain in the scar on her hand each time, but that hasn't stopped her from forming those friendships.

Those feelings grow stronger even as the Gauntlet of Shar and everything she's ever wanted/trained for sits just on the horizon. She finds herself acting on another want, another instinct, without thinking: when Karlach can finally touch again, Shadowheart pays her a nighttime visit.

And after, when Shadowheart is alone again, it's a whole war inside her head :( Here's a little snippet from a (very) rough draft of the angsty afterwards piece:

Shadowheart’s braid is loose where Karlach’s claws knotted in it. It weighs against her back, suddenly heavy as an anchor. Frantically, she wrenches the chain free, knuckling through the snarls until dark, tangled waves hang past her shoulders. But Shadowheart still wants to cut it. All of it. Every inch Karlach clutched.  Maybe then, she’d be free of this chill setting in where there was heat on her skin only moments ago. She would wear the day’s sweat instead of budding gooseflesh. Maybe then, she’d smell only of spent effort and not of smokey sweetness mingled in her mouth with the taste of dry wine. Maybe the only pain would be in the scar hissing against her hand. There would be no tender ache between her thighs. There would be no loss of what she never had.  It’s a gift, the old mantra echoes faintly in her mind. Absence is a gift. Shadowheart’s fingernails scrape her own scalp. Harder than the feathered flame of Karlach’s fingertips. Hard enough to wet her lashes and set a tear free down her cheek. So gentle. Why was she gentle? Shadowheart thinks desperately. Why couldn’t it have hurt then, so it didn’t have to now?

Okay, in all fairness, I'm usually not this unhinged productive. Last year, for instance, my total word count was only around 250k (iirc). I'm sure I wrote more than that from 2018 to 2020, but my logs from those are divided by fics/chapters or weekly.

... I've, uh, tried a lot of shit over the years.

Which is an important point! I've been posting to ao3 for nearly a decade now (not consistently, but I don't think I was away for more than a year or two), and I've been writing in some capacity for around 15–17 years now. There's been a lot of trial and error over the years, plus changing life circumstances leading to varying energy levels and writing time. The main factor is inspiration; if it's there, I'll write a lot, but if not, I'll be a potato.

So with all that in mind!

Logs

I do keep track of both my word count and my WIPs. I've got color-coded docs and spreadsheets even because I'm a fucking nerd. I've got pictures of it floating somewhere on this blog, but my fic folders tend to be nested, numbered little monstrosities.

WIPs

I call them WIPs sometimes because they're extensively detailed outlines mostly, but the more accurate term is ideas/plot bunniesdemons. I don't work on more than one story at a time. Typically, I start something and write it in narrative order until it's done. There are exceptions—my current fic was started in a post-236 frenzy, and I set aside the PWP I was working on for it. But usually, I only actively write one story at a time while everything else gets developed/outlined as inspiration strikes.

Consistency

You could say I write consistently, yeah! I don't do it every day because I take breaks whenever I finish a chapter (and of course, life throws curve balls sometimes), but typically, I write around 22–25 days a month. I set aside a few hours for it. Average daily word count also varies, but these days, it's 1.5–3k. When I'm really in the zone, it can reach 5–6k.

I'm a hobbyist writer with no aspirations of writing professionally, so my approach to the whole thing has been to wing it and see where it takes me. So I haven't really done anything with the concrete goal of improving. The best (and only) advice I have is very boring and cliche though: read and write.

Read widely if you can and narrow in on the kind of style and genre you like. Note down passages or turns of phrase that struck you and figure out why. You'll absorb a lot automatically, but I've heard people recommend emulating styles on purpose as a writing exercise.

Mainly though, the best and easiest way to improve is to keep writing. Technical rules can be learned pretty easily, especially with how many resources are available online now. Field/subject-specific reference materials are also abundant. But developing your own style and improving the flow of your prose are things that need practice. And it never really stops, especially because your writing will continuously evolve in more ways than one.

Overshadowed - Long ass (140K) College AU, No One Knows, heavy angst, mystery w/ horror elements, mostly happy ending, but I also left it a bit open/ambiguous. I MIGHT write a sequel one day. Everything's Fine (And the Boss is Totally Not a Cryptid) - Outsider POV, intern gets hired at Vlad Co., shenanigans ensue. Oh so many Dracula references. H(a)unted - Weird, angsty little Ghost Hunter Danny AU. Separate Danny and Phantom. ALT ending. I have some ideas percolating to continue off the alternate ending. The Hazards of Being Hot High AF - Shippy Popular Psychology (Jazz/Dash) oneshot I found in my fics folder. Jazz visits Dash in the hospital after a football injury. Elementary, My Dear Fenton - Ecto-Implosion fic. A goofy comedy-mystery where Danny and the trio try to track down who left an anonymous gift in his locker. They get WAY too into it.

WIPs:

Not So Bitter Reunions - AU, canon divergence, badger cereal. The college reunion goes decidedly less off the rails than in canon, leading to some nefarious consequences. I'm just kind of vibing with this one. High School's a Beach - **AGIT SPOILERS** Dan's in high school. This one is so very unserious, but I think I've got a few more chapters left in me. Needs Must (When the Devil Drives) - Canon divergence. AU. Vlad and Harriet reconnect at the college reunion, but since Vlad's technically an evil spirit, he's adversely impacted by things like salt, windchimes, running water, etc. Bad News (Vlad/Harriet) shipfic. I just...I think they're neat. Bearer of Bad News - Post Phantom Planet (not AGIT compliant). Bad News fic because I have an illness and these two live in my head rent free. The GIW enlist Harriet's help in preventing Ghost King Danny from destroying the earth.

Drabbles/Ficlets:

DannyMay 2022 - I don't remember any of these being particularly good, but they do exist. I very much did not last the entire month. Drabble Dump from Tumblr asks - this is just what it sounds like. Though, in general, I'll probably start trying to post oneshots and/or collect the separate, individual Tumblr ask ficlets on this post now instead of just clumping them in a drabble dump on ao3. Monsters Don't Exist - horror vibes. AU. Vlad didn't peace out after the accident and he's keeping his enemies (Maddie and Jack) close. Jazz suspects their babysitter, Uncle Vlad, is more dangerous than everyone else in the family seems to think. Cheese Melt ficlet - Outsider POV. Dani has a parent-teacher interview. Cheese Melt ficlet #2 - Dani doesn't like the toy she got at Nasty Burger. Vlad gets her a new one. Badger cereal ficlet - No one knows AU. Danny works as a cashier and Vlad accidentally outs his supervillain indetity by infodumping to him when Danny makes idle customer-servicey smalltalk.

I'm not going to list out all my filenames and ideas, don't worry lol. But I do have a couple (*cough* couple hundred *cough*) ideas percolating or half written in my fics folder, so that is a thing. The Bookseller & The Florist - The NedAme fic i've been posting, title is pretty explanatory even if you haven't been reading it.

The Ex - a week or so after Icelands birthday they're throwing a pseudo party for him in Dublin. Feat. Romano going "????" bc him and Norway are absolute opposites but Ire used to date Nor? and is now dating him?

Memories - A Spain fic that exists as two paragraphs and a very vague idea, i want to write for it i just don't know,,, how,,,,?

After the Fall - Germania and family finally heading back North after Odoacer overthrew Romulus Augustus, mostly family centered fluff/some internal-ish angst on Germania's part. (nightmares that he won't talk about, and leave him feeling isolated)

Natalya in Constantinople - title is a placeholder that's a joke off Emily in Paris. Belarus living in Constantinople before it falls, a lot of character/family tree building, less actual story if that makes sense.

Sons of Henrik - Early viking age, All of the Central Germanics/Anglo-Saxons have converted to Christianity and 'abandoned everything we were taught'; Denmark and Sweden feel like their family has turned their backs on them as well and they're angry about it. Norway is very conflicted on exact feelings, arguing that their recently deceased Father (Germania) wouldn't want infighting in the family. Nothing really gets solved. (Inspired by some guys Quora rant about the Saxon Wars triggering the Viking Age, not sure if they're actually connected at all but it was interesting to read at least.)

Scandals - Roderich and Antonio are married, Erzsébet is involved with both of them. It gets out, and nobles love to gossip. (another one of the less fleshed out ones but still)

Father - Brandenburg and Germany get into a fight; mostly centered around a legitimate "your not my dad" feeling. Brandenburg snaps and accidentally tells Germany "well Gilbert wasn't either!" cue Ludwig's entire world crumbling as he finds out his entire family has been lying since he was born.

I want to go at it with my lineless style, which always takes a bit longer than my lineart style, so I've yet to find time to tackle it yet. PoolBums -- A very rough piece which was supposed to be a big summery illustration that probably won't get finished now, because I did the beach one

Untitled 274 -- Regency era/AU doodles. I really wanted to do an exploration of what Nat and Ava might wear during that time period! Untitled 279 -- aka that three-page Book 2 Kira/Nat comic I want to try to do.

I technically also do have two fic wips floating around, Begin (An AU where Nat meets Kira pre-Book 1 and Rebecca gets to experience the awful realization one of her agents is dating her daughter) and Hungover (an Ava-route!Kira reaction immediately post Book 3) that will probably be foreverWIPs because I really do not have the endurance that writing takes, ahaha.
