Y/N held her phone up towards Logan, giggling away as she filmed him. "Can you do your best British accent?" She asked him, phone shaking in her hands as she giggled.

He rolled his eyes, but Logan was unable to hide his smile. "What do you want me to say?" He asked, looking down at her.

If it was possible for a person to have heart eyes, Logan would have. His heart would have been beating out of his chest like a cartoon character. "What do you want me to say?" He asked as he leaned against the wall.

"Fancy a cuppa."

"Fancy a cupper?" He said in his usual American accent.

Her giggles grew into full blown laughter.

Logan let out a huff and rolled his eyes, but he was still smiling. "Alright love," he began in an incredibly bad British accent. "D'you fancy a cuppa?" He asked, emphasising the A.

It was hard to see Logans face in the video, not with the way Y/N was laughing uncontrollably. Her tiktok was a goldmine of Logan videos, where most of the fans got their content.

It was rare for a video of Y/N to go viral. Her videos of Logan always blew up, and she was always seen liking the compilations fans made of them. But she never got herself in the videos, that wasn't her style.

But then she logged onto tiktok. Her phone was silent as Logan slept behind her, his arms wrapped around her and his face pressed into his neck.

They didn't spent the entire night cuddled up. As much as Logan wanted to, it was near impossible. He fell asleep holding her, but when Y/N woke up in the middle of the night Logan was almost always no longer holding her. But then she woke up and once again Logan was holding her.

She had a theory. She suspected that Logan would wake up at, like, 5am, just to wrap his arms around her and spend the next the next few hours asleep and holding her.

So, Y/N had her phone on silent as she watched Tiktok. There were a few Logan edits, too many clips of Lando Norris streaming and at least thirteen Charles Leclerc edits.

And then Y/N came across another video. It was from the live sky sports feed that played during the last grand prix, focusing in on the Williams garage before the race.

Logan was there, walking to his engineer. And Y/N was in front of him. He had his arms around her, swaying her from side to side as he spoke. It was subconscious, he didn't even realise he was doing it, but it was so cute.

At least the fans thought so. Careless Whisper by George Michael played in the background of the video as Logan put his chin on the top of her head.

Groaning, Logan slowly woke up. He kissed the back of her neck and sat up slightly, tired eyes looking at the screen over her shoulder. "What're you watching?" He asked as Y/N saved the video.

She showed him. In response, Logan kissed her shoulder and tightened his grip on her.

This is a couple who loved to tease each other. It could be about anything, but their main targets were spelling and pronunciation.

Well, it depended what grand prix they were at. If Logan was caught spelling 'colour' as 'color' during the Silverstone weekend, Y/N wasn't going to let it go.

But the same went for her at any of the US grand prix.

When she landed for Miami, the first thing she did was text Logan. 'God, I didn't realise I was so tired,' she texted him as she climbed into the taxi.

'Couldn't hear you, what was that?' Logan responded.

'Lo'

'You didn't realize you were so tired?'

There was no response for a good minute. He could see that she had seen the message, but she didn't reply.

And then...

When they got dinner that night, Y/N wanted a burger, something stereotypically American, but with no tomato.

Logan sat opposite her in the restaurant, hand covering his mouth, hiding his laugh as she ordered. "Can I get a burger with..." She looked at Logan, the enthusiasm dropping from her voice. "With no tomayto."

Logan couldn't hold himself back. his sniggers turned into full blown laughs as she gently kicked him under the table. "You're adorable," he said as she glared at him.

Oscar had known Y/N just as long as Logan had. He loved her like an annoying little sister that he pretended he couldn't stand but actually couldn't live without her.

He, Lando and Logan stood together, talking before the first practice session. Y/N hadn't arrived yet, set to arrive on Saturday, and Oscar missed her.

Not as much as Logan missed her, though.

He hadn't stopped talking to her, managed to slide a mention of her into every conversation.

Lando hadn't had the pleasure of meeting Y/N yet. "How did you guys get together?" He asked him, and Oscar sighed. He audibly sighed and rolled his eyes.

They'd been friends for years, since Y/N's karting days. But she'd quit to focus on studying, focusing on getting into a good university and landing her dream job.

When Logan was in F3 and Y/N was completing her first year of university, he missed her. Oscar missed her too, but not as much as Logan. So, during the summer, after her first year of university, he invited her to Florida.

It was maybe the most incredible summer of her life. Not because anything in particular happened, but because she was spending time with Logan.

Y/N knew he liked her. She knew she liked him too. But Logan wasn't going to do anything about it.

Actually, he tried. He tried to do these ridiculously subtle things that she was never going to pick up on. So, she took matters into her own hands.

They were in the back of the truck she had rented out for the summer. They'd done maybe everything, from go karting to carnivals. They were underage so they couldn't really experience spring break at its best.

In the back of the truck they looked up at the stars. "This has been sick," she muttered as she laid against him. "Properly, properly sick." (Genuinely can't imagine an american person using sick to be cool, pls correct me if wrong)

"I can't believe you have to go home tomorrow," Logan replied as he wrapped his arms around her.

Y/N snuggled closer to him. It was warm, but she didn't care. Music played from her stereo, and Logan hummed along.

"I'm gonna miss you," he said as Y/N sat up and stretched her arms up.

She faced him, crossing her legs and getting comfortable in her new position. "Are you gonna miss me? Or are you gonna miss me?"

Logan didn't answer, and that told her all she needed to know. "Dude, just ask me out already," she said, emphasising the 'dude'.

Again, Logan didn't answer. His cheeks were red as he looked away from her face, looking back at the stars.

So, Y/N leaned forward and kissed him.

Once Logan finished his story, Oscar shook his head. "You forgot the most important bit," he said and continued the story. "So Rick Astley started playing on the stereo, so Y/N pulled him up from the bed of the truck and made him dance with her. It's disgustingly cute."

Logan was a grinning, blushing mess. Oscar was right, it was disgustingly cute.

Fuck, he couldn't wait for Y/N to get there.

preface, I'm not arguing about the current ongoing war situation. I only mentioned war so that people who filter out the word have their filters catch it. I'm also only commenting on XJZs behavior on the basis of using that kinda language. One bigger incident I've seen of XJZhao getting a massive wave of criticism was using "blood libel" against a Jewish follower, when they said they wouldn't buy their next book. All that said, using a stereotype or a racist slur against someone because you feel they (as an individual) are an appropriate target is not ok. You don't get to replicate racist, discriminating, hateful and damaging words, phrases or stereotypes which attack an entire group, just because you're mad at one specific person, and then pretend it doesn't affect an entire group of people. No not even if you're POC, you don't need to be a armband wearing moron or a white hood cross burning swine to be sit at that particular kinda table.

If you're angry at a black person and use the N-word. If you're angry at a single queer person and use the F-word. You catch my drift, that's unacceptable, and would immediately get you labelled, and rightfully so, a racist, or queerphobe. XJZhao's main tool has been making tiktoks, and insta posts where they take screenshots and post the full online name and clearly invite their followers to harass them, or even tell them to blacklist and find people related to the target. Even sending their followers after someone who basically repeated exactly what XJZhao said themselves, that they missed deadlines and started fighting with their publisher. Just that they also pointed out how much leeway XJZhao was given compared to what's normal, and was still complaining. 🐧

Some of their tiktoks against the criticisms have also been just been very petulant. This one I relate to a bit lol 🤔 Such as the tiktok/yt short where they tell everyone who criticised or commented on the very blatant Darling in the Franxx story beats that "Akshually, the makers of DitF said I was all good." Yeah, that's fine, most people don't care about that though, they're commenting on how obvious the story elements were copied. It isn't always bad, many reviewers were neutral, some critical on how blatant it was. It doesn't matter if you got the green-light, it's still going to be something that might irk people because anyone who copies another story's story beats in such an identifiable way is gonna be called out at some point. That literally happened to every Hunger games, Twilight and HP clone. 🤷‍♀️

My dim memory is that XJZ literally said the initial plotbunny was a response to Darling in the Franxx in a youtube video long before the book came out. I think they should calm down and take some time away from toxic social media for their own good. (And yes, I do think they're acting antisemitic and getting a pass because online lefties often give people a pass for that when they wouldn't for other bigotry.) But I don't think it was any kind of secret that it's a blatant response to that series.

About the COD fandom. I just came across a fic that was labelled 16+ yet it was explicitly porn! The blog was something like "Coquette" or whatever with no age in their bio. And I swear you can't explain to these kids WHY you have to label shit appropriately because they just don't get it. One has to state it's 18+ because if you brazenly let minors view explicit content, YOU (in general) can get into major shit.

There are too many minors in the fandom. Too many blogs writing and liking fics with no age in their bios. I remember when teens were told to shut the fuck up in fandoms, at least when they tried to encroach on the 18+ side of it. Yes I am old and yelling at the clouds lol

Oh and I've seen "AKCHULLY Price would date an 18-year-old! He would so nah nah! He's not real so I can write what I want!" Write what you want but it's still gross. Especially because they really make a point of bringing up an age gap. there are alarming pedophilic themes in said fics of price fucking/dating 18-year-olds.

"Controversial young reader!" has 11k notes. "DBF Price/Simon/Konig" and the fics are revolting in nature because the reader is heavily implied to be young and very inexperienced and not in an "I have no interest in this shit" kind of way.

thought i’d make a post on a certain user who goes by /taythewhom. i keep seeing them in the comments under radfem posts, and i’ve already known about this for awhile but i think it’s good to mention it.

there’s many assumptions this person is a male who purposely trolls radfems. it’s plausible, but i genuinely believe this could actually be a female. after a prolific google search, this person also has a tiktok & reddit footprint. from what i’ve seen on tumblr, they make new accounts all the time. the same seems to go for the rest as well. currently they have a tiktok account under the same name and profile picture. i also found an interesting reddit screenshot that very much looks like it came from them. the context seems to be a girl talking about her success in sports, and how ironic this tay account instantly butts in to demean her? sound familiar?

but not only that in the comments there’s a similar account that claims to be them, and mentions their pronouns being female. they also went under a similar username like that on tumblr (taylor-thewhom.)

that tiktok account is gone, and their reddit account was suspended. this tay person has been at this for awhile, across many accounts. the question is: what is their motive? is this truly some random moid? or is this a female? and if this is a female, why is she choosing to target women?

I came across something related to Boruto that I found pretty funny. Recently, Sasuke has been turned into a tree, and now he has a clone. This clone's main target is Sarada, but instead of focusing on her, it’s more interested in going after Naruto and keeps asking about him. It's hilarious because I also saw a TikTok video claiming that Sarada and Sasuke are about to fight each other and that Sakura and Sarada will end up saving Sasuke. It’s amusing because, as we know, as long as Kishimoto is writing the story, we're bound to see Naruto saving the day again.

Summary: Felix decided he wanted to spontaneously take you for a short date at target

You had momentarily paused your nightly routine when your boyfriend suggested going out on a shopping trip. You had barely stepped into the apartment before he announced loudly that he was craving to do something spontaneous with you. He couldn't wait, he said, so it made you puzzled.

Still, after gentle coaxing and a lot of puppy eyes, Felix was always able to get his way. He even offered to drive, noticing that you were hesitant to even get back into your car. When you finally agreed, he couldn't help but shout in excitement as he raced to put his sneakers on. He all but dragged you down the hallway because you couldn't possibly be as quick as he.

"You wanna clue me in on what's happening?" You ask him with a glance out of the side of your eyes. You settled in the car, looking at the dark sky as it slowly morphed into a brighter area with street lights. "What's got you so...excited?"

He threw a charming grin your way. "I watched a lot of tiktoks on couples who do skincare together-stay together."

You rolled your eyes but smiled nonetheless. It was cute knowing he did certain cheesy things to feel a little more aesthetic from time to time. Felix had mentioned before that the aesthetic couple style is what he wants the two of you to achieve. Though, he knew it was something you hadn't mastered quite yet. He liked to follow specific couple activities to give you something to look forward to by the end of the week. Felix had a bucket list for the two of you when you didn't have plans.

He was anticipating you requesting coffee, even at such a late hour. "Of course." He sent you a wink before leaving the car.

"I don't think you should have coffee," you mumble to Felix after hearing him order two of the same drinks. You both shuffle to sit at an empty table as you wait.

Felix had shrugged off your concern, his wide smile never fading as he reached across the table to encase your hands under his own. "I am so glad we came here."

You furrowed your eyebrows but laughed. "Why are you so excited? What plans do you have?"

"Paycheck, baby. I got that bonus in our account today and I'm feeling a little special."

Little did you know that Felix was enthusiastically waiting for the coffee in hopes it will keep him up late tonight. He had made things planned just for you and he couldn't wait for you to be just as excited as he. He didn't want to get his hopes up too much, but he couldn't help but imagine your reaction once the night was over.

After a moment you began to browse the store, leisurely holding one another's hands as you sipped at your drinks. Felix may have seemed to appear calm to those around you, but the intense look in his eye as he searched for the items in his mind and the coffee in hand, you were starting to realize just what you were in store for. He even pretended to pause in front of an aisle, clearly not the one he was looking for, to feign calmness. He felt entirely the opposite, though, wanting nothing more than to speed down the store and to the exact aisles he needs.

When you finally come close to the skincare products, Felix releases your grip quickly and races towards the area he knew. There, he reached down and started picking up multiple watermelon-scented items. He handed you a few sheet masks, cute headbands, and even some lip balm as he continued to sort through them all.

You picked up the lip balm and examined it closely. "Watermelon?"

He tucked a few more random things in between his now-full arms. "Yes! This brand has really good ratings. Also, they encourage using the same products as your partner to ensure the same results."

"Results? Like, face care results? What are you trying to do?"

He finally turns to you, smiling ear to ear and eyes large. "We're going to be a watermelon couple!"

Surprised by his random confession, you let him drag you to the next destination, stopping in front of clothes. There he found matching watermelon onesies and fluffy slippers. You were lucky enough to spot an empty hand basket to place all the items into as he continued to pick out more.

Finally, you placed your hand over his. "Sweetheart," you say gently, afraid to upset him. "I think this is enough watermelon for now. How about we get some snacks that we can have later and watch a movie? Smelling like watermelon and all."

You weren't entirely sure which influencers he saw online that gave him this idea, and you didn't think you wanted to. However, the happiness just rolling off of him was too contagious to ignore. Even if it meant you would need to stick to smelling like a sweet fruit, you would do it to please him. You couldn't deny you had fun when he found specific, but very odd date ideas.

"What brought all this on?"

Felix had taken the basket from you now, wanting to hold your hand once again. "I just knew an energetic, comforting night like now was exactly what you needed."

It didn't matter what you ended up doing, as long as you were with Felix you were content. He gave your hand a gentle squeeze, his way of telling you 'i love you', saving you from being shy in a public place. He attended to your needs and didn't turn them down when you had any requests. Even with a goal in mind, he loved being able to go off course and do things at the spur of the moment with you. As long as you two were happy, your dates were always the most fun.

Just for the record: it's not minimizing the experiences of traumagenic systems to talk about the stigmatization and oppression of endogenic systems.

In public, endogenic systems are regularly subjected to general pluralphobia. Most lay people will treat you like you're crazy for having voices in your head and other agents who takeover your body, regardless of whether you call them alters, tulpas or some type of spirits.

But as @ghostly-collective points out, there is also specific endophobia, especially in online spaces.

Endogenic systems are regularly targeted for harassment for existing. We're sent hate anons and death threats on Tumblr. We face mass harassment on TikTok. We're regularly ostracized and banned from Discord servers that don't even have anything to do with systems because of anti-endos.

And as you can see, we can't even have positivity blogs because anti-endos will target them.

Pointing out the stigmatization endogenic systems isn't minimizing what traumagenic systems go through.

But you know... when the people who are making these sorts of Appeal to Worse Problems arguments are part of the hate groups who are causing endogenic systems to be be stigmatized and harassed in the first place, it really has the same energy as someone punching you in the face while telling you to shutup because they've been punched harder.

The Tumblr Files

Tumblr has a habit of disappearing blogs that it seems to find objectionable. Alas, if only they were full of reactionary content they'd probably have been allowed to stay, but instead they're Leftists of various stripes, which makes them uncomfortable for the owners of Tumblr at best and dangerous at worst.

Regardless of what you think of Musk's purchase of Twitter, one good thing that came out of it was the release of the Twitter Files. Therein we learned of just how closely social media companies like Facebook and Twitter have integrated with the US government and its spying agencies.

Does the FBI have a direct line to TumblrHQ? I can't say for certain. I haven't seen any evidence of it yet, but Tumblr is a massive platform with a lot of reach. Its size alone makes it a prime target for surveillance if only because were the community left to its own devices it might start to develop its own ideas about how the world worked contrary to the bourgeois narrative, or what the US government currently calls "misinformation."

Some things to consider:

First, in the wake of the Democrats' 2016 presidential loss, the Professional-Managerial Class which make up its primary constituencies freaked out. The development of Russiagate was the response. This wasn't just about Trump winning the presidency though. The source of bourgeois terror was that the internet was an unregulated source of information, and people were starting to get the "wrong" ideas, as evidenced by Bernie Sanders immense popularity at the time, and Trump's victory.

Second, Russiagate triggered a concerted spy agency response to root out basically nonexistent "Russian influence" on social media "promoting misinformation." Pressure was put onto SM companies to "do something about Russian election meddling." Twitter's internal research found that there was basically nothing of the kind. This was the wrong answer, so Twitter was compelled by propaganda outlets and the threat of expensive legislation to "do something," and that something was to basically turn over its moderation process to US spy agencies.

Why is this relevant to Tumblr? Because it has a large, influential community, which alone would necessitate its surveillance if not control, but especially because Tumblr is hemorrhaging money and is failing to gain ground against its competitors.

TechCrunch reported that CEO Matt Mullenweg spilled the beans during the Q&A, which was cohosted by COO Zandy Ring and attended by a meager 800 users, despite being plastered across every Tumblr account’s dashboard. According to Mullenweg, the platform is spending $30 million more than it’s making as it tries to desperately cling to relevance in its fight against Instagram and TikTok. Moreover, COO Ring explained that the platform is not seeing much of an increase in its userbase.

“People have this impression that we have massive growth right now, and we really don’t,” Ring said during the Q&A.

None of this necessarily means that it's Langley that's getting Leftist users booted off the platform. It could merely be personal biases on the part of the staff, against transsexuals, against pro-Palestinian activists. It does seem arbitrary and capricious enough. If the goal was, say, combating antisemitism by banning pro-Palestinian users, would there be so many fascists and outright Nazis on tumblr? Why does it seem like the majority of those that get banned just happen to be on the side which opposes imperialist Western narratives?

In any case, this markedly underscores that if the Western Left wants any hope of surviving on the web, it can't rely on corporate resources to do so.

Courtney periodically looked past the pages she read to the man standing by the window. His arms were crossed as he scanned the room before settling on her. He gave her a flirtatious smirk, which she returned with a vulgar gesture. She missed her old bodyguard but couldn’t say anything because her Papá was the one who hired everyone. Her old bodyguard minded his damn business and did his job correctly. This new guy? All he was good for was giving her a major migraine on a daily basis.

Her muscles ached from the pure irritation this man gave her. Courtney rolled her shoulders back and took a deep breath. She focused on her book while waiting for the family room to be unoccupied. In reality, Courtney should have been in her room, far away from whatever was happening behind the closed doors, but she refused to feel afraid in her own house.

Courtney Rosales was the daughter of a wealthy man, Mateo Rosales, whose business ran deep underground, earning him several enemies. Her new bodyguard, Duncan Robustelli, was apparently the only vile man smart enough to complete her Papá’s extensive boot camp. Ever since Duncan set foot in her home, he had taunted her and called her a ridiculous pet name. On top of that, he had simply refused to wear the uniform her Papá had given him.

He’s quick on his feet and knows how to hold his own. The words her Papá said to her echoed in her mind. Courtney had tested that statement on her own. She had sent alarming messages to Duncan, hoping he would barge into the room to prove why he was given the position– but he never did. In fact, Duncan would walk in casually and raise his eyebrow at her. As if he knew she was testing him and refused to give in to her stupid games. She prayed to God she was never in real danger if that was how he would react.

“You’re a shit bodyguard.” She mumbled.

Duncan laughed as he stepped toward her, the natural light that gave her the perfect reading setup being drowned out by his shadow. “And you’re a shit client.”

Her book snapped shut as she looked over her shoulder, her nose scrunching up at him. He smelled like mint and firewood, but she would never tell him so. “You could always save us both some misery and quit.”

“And by quitting, that would mean what exactly?” Duncan teased as he leaned down to her level. His breath tickled the back of her neck. “Oh right, it would give you satisfaction that I walked away. I think I’ll pass.”

“I wish I could fire you.”

“You’d miss me too much, Princess.”

Heavy thuds shook the ground before them as Courtney turned fully around to remind him what her name was. Duncan moved so fast Courtney barely noticed the doors swinging open with random people running out holding onto fresh wounds. Before she could even scream, Duncan had her securely behind him as he whipped out a gun to finish off whatever was left of these men. Courtney screwed her eyes shut and held her hands over her ears, waiting for the awful popping sound the gun would release, but nothing came. She took a peek and instantly regretted it. Bodies were sprawled across the floor, pooling in their own dark blood as her Papá casually walked and inspected one of the men on the ground.

She realized why Duncan’s gun had not sounded off as she watched him tuck it back into his waistband—a silencer. Everything had happened within a matter of seconds. Courtney didn’t know how to handle the heat racing up her neck at the thought of almost being a target to these men. This is why you stay away, her mind screamed at her.

Duncan’s body concealed her perfectly as more guards rushed into the foyer and into the room. They ordered Duncan to keep watch as they cleaned up the mess and then shut the door. Courtney’s Papá nodded at Duncan before turning towards his room to clean himself up. Only then did Duncan move aside. His hands were immediately on her; Courtney would have slapped him if she hadn’t realized Duncan’s hands weren’t feeling her up but making sure she was intact.

His palms were cold against her skin as he inspected her arms, neck, and face, but Courtney swore her skin turned darker with every touch.

“Wh– you saved me?”

“It’s my job.”

“You could have died!”

Duncan finally let his hands fall to his side. He took a deep breath to get his thoughts right. He had been in this position plenty of times but with Courtney? Something in him knew he would have massacred the entire house if anything happened to her.

“You could have died.”

Something sparked within those icy eyes that froze Courtney’s mind. Maybe he wasn’t such a terrible guy after all.

Eurovision 2023: #12 & #11

12. ARMENIA Brunette - "Future lover" 14th place

Very tempted to just post this meme as justification for putting Brunette here.

Like, what is Brunette if not A Neat Lady? ? She working on herself, deciding to be good, do good, look good #TeamPretty for her future lover whom she wants to kiss her face, read books with and drink smoothies with at neat cafés - it's no "Why don't you make me dizzy with all your kisses *sad synth*", but it's cute and relatable for a libretto strung together from Pinterest posts lol <3. A Presence That Was Liked (--Gretchen Jones) if ever there was.

What really pushed "Future lover" higher up my ranking though was the live, and specifically the middle section. "Future lover" is not an easy song to get into, but Brunette made it work, specifically by knocking the rap break-

Right out of the park! Princess was eating and her song was the buffet.

And honestly that's enough for a 12th place on my list. You know me, whenever we reach a new zone, we rank the competent people first since they're the ones I have the least opinion on. Brunette is good, i submit the live in Liverpool as evidence, I 'm sure we agree on that? "Future lover" was never more than a fun filler entry for me and I don't mean that disparagingly - every contest needs their also-rans and if the entries that pad out the numbers are good themselves, the contest usually becomes more enjoyable as a whole. Brunette was part of a strong streak that ran from Alika to Pasha, and she earned her spot, by delivering a strong and inspired live that was solidly good with no drawbacks. It's not something I'm passionate about, but "Future Lover" was top shelf Fun Finale Filler, and I wish the entries near the top of the scoreboard I put below Armenia had demonstrated the same level of quality.

11. ICELAND Diljá - "Power" 27th place

For the purposes of ranking ESC, I like to clump together entries I have similar feelings for to pretend the chaotic wreck that is this blog as a minimum of consistency. In this case I've completely given up lol <3 Diljá and Brunette couldn't be less alike if they tried. Where Brunette was competent, dignified and professional, Diljá gave negative fucks about how she came across and how it affected her point total. <3

That isn't to say, I didn't enjoy "Power" for what it was because I did, a lot. Basic catchy Electropop by weird indie girls is my safe zone, and where I can fully unwind, calm down and be myself (I suppose that's the introvert equivalent to zoning out to a girlbop? You couldn't pay me to move to a Loco Loco or Slomo in public, although I like both of them). You can defo be sure that I loved "Power" for all its shortcomings and man was it flawed.

As noted pre-show the biggest threat to Diljá was Diljá herself. Now don't get me wrong - I LOVE her. I love her annoying foghorn-like personality that blasted through her rehearsal tiktoks. I love how she, when asked what the best Eurovision song of all times was, served cunt by naming herself. I love how she gave zero shits about something as trivial as qualifying, and just went all out enjoying herself via the medium of her untreated neurodivergence. And of course, most of all, I love that she completely engineered her own demise in the semi, for no reason other than that she felt like it:

Like, I'm pretty sure there's a decent chance "Power" could have qualified in that second semifinal. The target after all was Alika, who was an obvious traditional jury carry. But Diljá threw all that away when she magikarped herself to death on that turntable. 😍

She could have chosen any camera angles, and went for several ones where her back was turned to the audience.

In a sense, that was the most beautiful ending one could have imagined for Diljá's journey - a villain origin story turned flesh. Diljá would always be eliminated in the semis in any contest held acrpss the multiverses and it would always be through needless self-sabotage. 😍 AND SHE ALMOST QUALIFIED IN SPITE OF IT. REST IN P-P-P-POWER, my sweet anxiety princess.

Mean Girls in a Small Town

My stupid small town is in an uproar right now. This is not fiction. And this is why local politics matter so much, even and perhaps especially in liberal states like Massachusetts, where this story takes place, where I live.

We regularly host this conference in the high school about various progressive topics--diversity, intersectionality, self esteem, etc. It used to be pretty small but has grown much larger, and this year, the school hosted upwards of 700 students from all across the state, which is an impressive feat for a town with a graduating class of around 80. It should be something that brings the entire town pride, and as far as I know, up until this year, it was.

But this year, things changed.

This year, someone got a drag queen to present.

As I understand it from the perspective of one of the administration members, because the conference arguably falls under the purview of mitigating the negative impacts of cellphone usage and social media for teenagers, some money from a grant rewarded to the high school for exactly that purpose was used to pay a trans actress to be the closing speaker for the conference. This got a bee in the bonnet of one school committee member, who threatened to sue the state if they agreed that the money could be used for that purpose (which--it's their determination because it's their money, so that would be a waste of everyone's time, but I digress). And that should have been the most exciting and talked about situation from the April 1 school committee meeting, which was--like most school committee meetings--about as interesting as watching paint dry.

(I should know; I watched all three hours of it. Sped up, of course, because I don't hate myself that much. There were a lot of numbers, and someone got weirdly cross about hiring another physical therapist for the special ed department)

But the meeting, as all of them do, started with public comment. You must be a resident of our town to comment, so that much can be said for this particular provocateur. She was not a plant from outside the town. She gave her address and is vaguely known to people within the town.

Her children are all grown, so she shouldn't have much to say about the schools, and yet, she did. She described the drag presentation in a way that I can only assume was intentionally inaccurate and willfully ignorant. She said the drag queen in question (I'm not naming him because he's honestly been piled on so fucking much lately) started his presentation by talking about his breasts being cold and then did a performance that purposefully exposed the attendants to his "lacy white underwear" (her words, not mine). Her question was something along the lines of "who is allowing this filth???" and presumably, if she had pearls, she would have clutched them.

The performance, incidentally, was a tribute to Karen Smith from Mean Girls, the one who can forecast the weather with her boobs. The drag queen's costume took obvious inspiration from the film: short pink skirt, pink jacket, white shirt with a mouse on it ("a mouse, duh"). He wore white dance bloomers underneath, as a good performer does.

This should have been a non-issue, because it is a non-issue. This conference was not an official school event. The school was closed that day, and nobody was forced to attend. The presentation itself was one of 45 presentations happening at the same time (remember: 700 students attended this thing), so nobody was there who didn't want to be. The school didn't even pay the drag queen; he presented for free.

And it likely would have gone ignored, if not for Chaya Raichik, a.k.a., Libs of TikTok.

For the uninitiated, LoT is a collection of accounts that serve as vile provocateurs, spreading misinformation, incomplete information, and outright disinformation that targets the LGBTQIA+ community, especially the trans community. The biggest boost to the account's notoriety came in the summer of 2022, when it claimed that Boston Children's Hospital and Children's National Hospital were performing gender confirmation surgeries on minors. Following this rancid bullshit (because it had about as much in common with the truth as LoT fans have with being good people), both hospitals--CHILDREN'S hospitals, I should add--received numerous bomb threats and other threats of violence.

At the extreme end of things, this is their MO: pure stochastic terrorism. LoT will never outright call for violence against the LGBTQIA+ community, but they will call them evil and child abusers and groomers and whatever else, and then act very surprised Pikachu when their followers take that at face value and do a violence.

But it's the quieter end of things that worries me more, because it's the quieter end of things that's happening in my town.

LoT got ahold of a clip from that three hour meeting I mentioned and shared it around Twitter with exactly zero of the context I mentioned, save for a few lines suggesting that the school had paid $2500 for the drag queen to perform for the entire school.

You know, lies.

Someone posted it on the town's unofficial Facebook page. Our town, a farming community with sensibilities more comfortable in the 18th century than the 21st and a population that screeches loudly when someone installs a new traffic light, uses the unofficial page for information far more than the official page. The unofficial page is run by a religious conservative who's fond of getting delete happy when her agenda isn't being pushed properly.

So when this dropped on the town's Facebook page, it was pure Bedlam.

Because everyone was so angry, it took ages for the actual facts of the situation to emerge. So many conservative voices were screaming that facts didn't matter because "drag queens shouldn't be within a million miles of schools because they are inherently sexual" (not my words; theirs) so those of us looking for the facts of the situation had an uphill climb. The facts confirmed what a lot of us thought: that (a) the performance was not nearly as sexual as it was made out to be, (b) it was not even remotely mandatory, and (c) it was not paid for by the school.

But "facts don't matter," and the group has been screaming about it for, at this point, four days straight.

The screaming doesn't matter much to me. They did that back in October-ish when we got an influx of refugees at our local scummy inn (before the refugees arrived, the conservatives hated it because it housed homeless people; but then the refugees arrived, and suddenly, it became, "what about American homeless people?"). Those of us with hearts and brains shrugged, whipped up a bunch of donations for our refugees, and continued to give to them until they found permanent housing in a nearby town.

No, what matters to me is the battle cry that's started to arise: that they need to fill the school committee with like-minded individuals by recalling anyone who they don't like (including the superintendent and principal, which is not how this works, but okay) and putting forth their own candidates. And this, I believe, was the real aim of LoT in targeting us.

We're a small town with a lot of conservatives... but we went to Biden by one vote in 2020, you see.

It's clear that we're a battleground town where it wouldn't necessarily be that hard to push us straight into fascism, junior, as much as a town can be in Massachusetts. Get the wrong voices on the school committee, and suddenly, things have gone from irritating to downright ugly. And while things are ugly, they can chip away at actual education (the committee member I mentioned above was also trying to reduce the number of teachers in both the middle and high school "for budget reasons") and create a new crop of uninformed voters.

We're fortunate right now because (a) we're in Massachusetts, so it's unlikely they can do the same amount of harm they could in states that have been drowned in a sea of red (which is less of a slight and more a statement that they've put in decades of effort in other places, so this sort of situation there is catastrophic instead of just an uphill battle); and (b) a decent number of us are prepared to stand in their way however we can.

But man. It's a heavy burden. I'm angry. I'm sad. I'm tired. I'm in a lot of physical pain because stress gives me flares. I want to do more--to run for a vacant seat, to hit the pavement and whip up votes, to yell--but my body keeps getting in my way. And I'm afraid that if I don't do it, no one will.

Now after the Naver article that came out about how Han Sohee is part of the MV “Female lead, main character, starring in the MV” not sure which one is more accurate because in a way the 3 of them can mean 3 different things but whatever, they’ve been absolutely disgusting about this whole thing.

People pointed out how Sohee is so JK coded, she gives off the same vibe as him and naturally a lot of Army commented stuff like “She’s basically the female version of him” or “They can easily pass as siblings” to which motherfuckers would comment “Couple” “You just don’t want to say couple because it shatters your fantasy” bullshit like that. Does this mean...?” and i can already tell you that the comments were not it. Some hoping for a “fandom cleanse” because to them if JK gets intimate with a woman in an MV that’s already the end of the world because in the back of their pea sized brains they also believe that him doing any sort of intimacy heck even just holding hands with a woman (because God forbid the thought of him holding a man’s hand crosses their mind) is enough to mean he’s taken.

And i’ll give that to you if you think my boy is straight you do you but here’s the thing, there’s no point in hoping for a fandom cleanse because of an MV because after all that there’s still a reality he lives in, is he (as a straight man lol) taken irl? But of course he is taken according to the 5813 rumors that come out about him every 2 to 3 business days.
