What can change us | Chapter 2 | The one lost in doubt

Now it was time for her oldest. Rengoku was asleep, but he was tossing and turning from various nightmares. The memory of when he saw his mother dying, the day his father first said that he was useless, and his once friends turned bullies making him feel worthless. He just kept running away, he wanted, no. He needed to get away. A light. Finally a light at the end of the nightmare. He kept running and running until he reached the light and kept falling. He woke up on a small hill covered in roses with no thorns. The hill felt warm, and it felt safe and secure. “Kyojuro Rengoku”. 

Rengoku pulled out his sword from the sudden voice. “Who is! Who’s there”. The sword disappeared from his hands. He needed to keep his guard up. “My name is Yua 結愛, and I am a child of Hotei the God of happiness and abundance. Your mother has asked him to give you a single wish and guide”. This was a trick! It had to be. His mother was long dead no way she would-. “Kyojuro. My son, my love please listen to Yua”. “Mother? I-is it you”. Kyojuro couldn’t believe his ears. Was it all too good to be true? “I promise my love, wish to your heart's desire”. This was real, wasn’t it. His mother was here one last time to deliver one last gift. Tears filled his eyes as Kyojuro’s heart grew heavy with hope. “I hope that this wish does not offend your good deed mother”. Ruka was taken aback. She realised this wish was going to be for him. Did he deserve it? Absolutely. “My dear son, you have suffered so much, it’s okay to be selfish sometimes, it’s okay”. More tears filled Kyojuro’s eyes. “Alright then. My wish is to find someone who loves me. I wanted to find someone who loves me for just me. I wanted to be in love with someone as equally as flawed as me”. Yua smiled. “So be it. My boy on your 20th birthday you will be sent on a mission where you will be fatally injured. A skilled woman will be the one to save and heal you. You both will fall in love, and a full and happy life and family will be promised together. She will repair the damages and emotional wounds that people have scarred you with. And mend your broken heart and family. The only thing with this is that you can’t lose sight of what’s important to her. If you break her heart, it’s completely over and you will never be able to feel love from another person. Here I am promising you the most patient and loving woman in Japan. I wish you luck Kyojuro Rengoku. She is not an easy woman”. Rengoku was mesmerised by these words. There was a woman who would love him. And he would give her all of his love. Ruka smiled feeling satisfied with her son’s wish. She couldn’t wait to see her future daughter-in-law. “Kyojuro, choose from the roses amongst us. Each holds a guide to help you complete your wish. Only you will be able to see and hear it, but it will help you on your journey to completing this wish!”. Kyojuro looked amongst the flowers. They all looked the same except for one. Rengoku made his way to the bottom of the small hill where there was a flower with a ripped petal. It hurt and broken, and in need of love, just like him. “This one. I choose this one”. The rose fully bloomed and a small girl was inside. She wasted no time spreading her wings and zipping around him. Rengoku was in awe of the peculiar creature, he put his hand out and the fairy didn’t hesitate to land. “Nice to meet you! My name is Emiko愛実子! Rengoku smiled and laughed at the small Green haired fairy. “Thank you, mother. I won’t let you or her down”. Ruka nodded and smiled. “I know my son. I know”.

There are many new friends on the archive, and many are young and have only known social media, which is why I wanted to say something!

Ao3 does not have an algorithm! It isn't a social media site, it's an archive.

Posting fics on Tumblr isn't the same as posting fics on Ao3

Ao3 is like a giant virtual bookshelf, and everyone is able to add their own stories to the bookshelf, all stored with different tags and different fandoms. Works are automatically sorted by newest to oldest, but filters, looking at bookmarks, and using the search function can change that.

Certain works are not pushed to the top like social media posts. More kudos and reads don't push a single work to more viewers by some algorithm. Unless otherwise filtered, works will be at the top of the page based on how recent it was posted.

Smaller fandoms get less views, less kudos, less bookmarks, and larger fandoms get more simply because of the number of people inside the fandom.

Ao3 is a giant virtual bookshelf- there is no algorithm, and there is no man behind the shelf pushing certain books forward.
