You know, ten years ago, I loved a fictional guy called Tobias who had four fears and hence called himself Four because trauma. And now, ten years later, I hate a fictional guy called Tobias who has four grandsons who are traumatized because of him. Funny how times change. Call it a full circle moment.

Rite Here Rite Now
It was amazing and funny. Copia girlies and boys fucking won!
Tumblr media
I expected different outcome, tbh. Tobias managed to surprise me and also made me a tiny bit sad (reasons will be explained in the spoilers below).
The film consists of like 95% of concert footage and 5% of off stage/plot stuff. The quality of sound and editing is just 🤌 I expected the live of Twenties to be good and gosh Ghost delivered. And Mummy Dust...Tobias let Mary Goore out! But i honestly prefer Terzo's version (CaD) better. Sorry not sorry haha. Ghouls/Ghoulettes footage. Everyone who loves them will be very veeeery well fed!
Dance Macabre live...i was'nt wrong when i called it a satanic gay party 😁
The movie is worth watching and i do hope Ghost releases it as soon as possible for all those who were not able to go.
The spoiler free review ends here. Don't read further if you don't want to spoil it for yourself. And please, don't copy them and paste it everywhere for the sake of ruining other people's fun! Seriously, don't fucking do that!
If you accidently clicked here, don't worry! spoilers will be below and you still have a chance to avoid them :)
Tumblr media
Alriiiiight:
Movie starts with Saltarian who tells fans to record for the first 2 minutes, to show how happy they are etc and posted a qr code for fans to upload those recordings. I guess it will be put up on RHRN website. We'll see. There were also photos of fans who attended LA ritual. I fucking loved the person who showed up in a giant Plushia suit. I LOLed! Then fans were asked to put down the phones and enjoy the movie. The beginning was narrated Star Wars kinda style (a little bit) with the small recap of the chapters and about Copia's worries that he might die. And yes, it literally began in space lol. The movie is basically is like what we saw in small snippets Ghost posted earlier. Plot mixed with a really good show.
And the plot: -Short footage of Copia and Ghouls arriving. ALmost the whole set was the same as any other concert from Re-Imperatour + a few awesome exceptions. -Dews does that annoying thing with guitar, Rain stops him, takes his pick and throws it into the crowd and Dew...he freaking showed him YouSuck sticker on the backside of his guitar. Peak Dew moment! -Copia asked the right question about the Clery. He also does not quite understand what it does, why and where it goes. I suppose Tobias decided to thicken the Ghost lore a bit and will have more clarity in the nearest future. -Remember when Copia jumped at the end of the Watcher in the Sky? He ended up in one of those stage boxes (for equipment or something) and is taken to the stage B. While he's carried to it by Kevin he has a chat with Nihil's ghost. Nihil says he recorded not 2, but 3 songs. That probably means that we'll hear a new one. (UPD: the new song we heard during the credits, "The Future is a Foreign Land" is Nihil's 3rd song! Confirmed by Tobias himself in a new interview). He also tells Copia to breath in deep and then farts. -On the Stage B Copia sings "If You Have Ghosts". 3 Ghoulettes played piano and violins and the 4th one did the haunting ghost-like opera vocals. It was beatiful. Copia kissed her hand. -He then wore boxing robe and went next to crowd. Almost the whole scene was shown in the trailer. -Btw, remember that silly moment when Nihil's eyes were crossing? Well, Kevin was also included in that staring contest. -Twenties live. The skeletons, the performance and one of those skeletons who crawled between Dew's legs...that's hot. -Nihil calls Copia "son". Copia calls Nihil "Dad". Cardi will insult him later, don't worry. -Nihil/Seestor cartoon during MOAC. Yes, that's when Sis hit him with the car. Basically it's what happens after "Kiss the Go Goat" mv. Sister leaves and Nihil runs after her. "I'll never let you go". They end up kissing in a coffin on a graveyard , later Nihil wakes up naked in a bed in a motel and we see Sister leave. -There was a moment in a movie when we see Ashley (stage crew) bring Copia a new pair of shoes and put the on on his feet. Tobias, goddammit what the hell was that? :D -Seestor was a in wheelchair all the time -She and Nihil encouraged Copia throughout the whole movie and gave him a piece of advice. -About the baloon from the poster. Copia flies on it after finishing the set...or he imagined that because a few moments later after Nihil/Seestor flashbacks he ends up on the floor and watches Seestor die. All of the Ghouls and Ghoulettes also stood right next to her. -Copia has a twin brother -Copia didn't die and became the head the Clergy (Father Imperator or something like this). He found out about his new position from a letter Seestor left for him. -New song during credits (credits show dictators, assassinations, wars and the use of nuclear war). Years 1984 and 2024 mentioned. The song is not heavy. -Ghouls/Ghoulettes real names mentioned in the credits -Funny post credit scene with Copia. He had no piant on and had a new cool drip (with black jacket and red and black cross). Seestor is also a Ghost now. Tobia's children cameo. They're also Ghosts. -Papa V is teased the same way Copia was teased in a chapter 1. They even used the same music (Pro Memoria). No face reveal. Either he will be revealed in new Chapters or at some point during the new tour???
-aaaand my biggest disappointment: no footage of Primo, Secondo and Terzo. Literally ZERO.
I mean, Nihil is a Ghost, Seestor also became a Ghost, even Tobias' children made a cameo as Ghosts, but nothing for previous Papas? Really?! The same could have been done for them, but i guess Tobias doesn't care about them anymore :( And it hurts. I know that's my fault that i had so many expectations and hopes, but holy shit :( As a newbie who never saw previous Papas, i'm so sad i'll never get a chance to see them and there won't be any new footage of them. Being Terzo widow is so hard. Guess that's why i'm a bit salty Copia lives (sorry, guys, i like him, but i also hate him haha)
And yes, as it turned out the twins theory from Square Hammer was true...but not for Terzo 😭
I enjoyed the movie nevertheless. It's fun and kinda gives you an opportunity to see the band "live" if you've never been to a ritual before. And yes, the movies was'nt just about Papa IV and his fate, i believe it was also Tobias' message for us to enjoy the life rite here rite now! As i said, Copia's girlies and boys truly fucking won. Congrats, lads, your Papa lives and will live! I bet that feels amazing. Thanks for reading! P.S. since you know the plot, don't spoil it for the others please.

give me all your headcanons for snape nEOOOOWWW (pretty please 🤎)
Okay so I think I’m going to break this down into chunks because I have a LOT of thoughts so here’s the first chunk :D
TW: for child abuse?
PRE HOGWARTS:
it’s pretty much canon that Sev came from an abusive home with an alcoholic muggle father and a pure blood mother.
Personally, I believe that his mother Eileen Prince was disowned by her family upon marrying Tobias. Although at first they were a happy couple, Eileen becomes pregnant with Severus and reveals to Tobias that she is a witch. Tobias, coming from an era where witchcraft is demonized and realizing the drain that a child has on his finances, becomes abusive.
Eileen tries her best to keep the abuse from Severus as much as possible, leading to her stopping herself from using magic as she believes that would just anger Tobias even more.
Severus is absolutely a mamas boy as a child and you can pry that headcanon out of my cold dead hands. He would do anything for his mama, growing up hearing stories about Hogwarts, magic and the legacy of the Princes, it was all he had to stay sane. Whenever Tobias was out of the house for extended periods of time, Eileen would brew with Severus as well, usually healing potions.
He would often be seen wearing his mother’s clothes because of the families lack of funds but also just because it was a way to connect with her.
The first time Severus uses accidental magic was to help his mom avoid Tobias, blasting him unconscious. It’s a mess of emotions for the rest of the night. Eileen is panicking, worrying about her husband’s health and her own but also trying to celebrate Severus’ magic so he knows magic isn’t bad (pure bloods are aware of obscurials). Severus is in tears worrying about his mother’s injuries, unable to understand the situation. Eileen calms him down enough to get him to agree to never tell Tobias about this incident. It happens again more times afterwards.
Severus is sensitive as a child, always crying despite his father’s anger towards his tears. He becomes agitated with himself, being unable to control himself. His father’s words haunt him every time he cries.
He goes years without any friends, not going to school because of his magical status, but still being allowed to go out to play and escape his fathers grasp.
The kids usually don’t like him cause of his poor hygiene, odd clothing and even stranger words. He’s rather intelligent for his age, but being raised in an abusive household has only taught him vulnerability is weakness and everything is a threat.
When he meets Lily he learns how to let go of his shields. He’s made his first magical friend, someone who doesn’t mind his clothing, or hair, or overall oddness.
He goes over to the Evan’s family house at least once a week. Lily’s parents constantly fuss over him, asking if he’s alright or need food or clothing. He constantly denies it because he doesn’t want to burden them, or have them look too closely at his home life
Eileen is so grateful her son has a friend she is brought to tears wherever she hears Sev talk about Lily (which he does, a lot). Whenever she knows Tobias will be out of the house she’ll ask Sev to bring Lily over so all three of them can make potions together.
Petunia is less receptive of him, constantly starting arguments with Lily over why she even talks to him, but generally leaves them alone to stay in her room.
Sev was always quiet as a child, he would play silently whenever on his own, keeping his thoughts within his imagination. His preferred method of play, pre-Lily, was organizing objects. He would organize them by color, shape, name, then mix them back up and start again.
With Lily he would let his imagination run wild, playing the part of dragon, knight, prince and spy, usually acting as a helper to Lily. They call each other sun and moon. He sees himself as a reflection of Lily’s light. His self esteem will only get lower as the years progress.
Occasionally, Lily would get extra allowance (Lily’s parents purposefully gave for Sev) and they would go to a corner store to buy sweets. I imagine he has a pallet for less overwhelming sweets, like matcha flavoring, but as he grows older he convinces other people he likes bitter sweets the most. I think he has an appreciation for berries the most.
Hope you appreciate these :D think took almost an hour to write and I keep on wanting to add more but this is honestly already too long :,)
Side note I just realized I can’t do multiple posts on one ask? So if you want the second chunk can you please send another ask :,D

Spencerrrr????
"Can I ask you a question?" Adam asks, Spencer stops in his tracks. He turns slightly giving the man in front of his his full attention.
"Yeah." Spencer nods, a brief flash of Tobias before him almost sends him stumbling, but it's Adam that's in front of him...Adam.
"You've seen bad stuff, right?" Adam asks, Spencer nods, his eidetic memory never lets him forget any of them. The gory crime scene photos, the crazed look in most of their unsubs eye's. Everything haunted him.
"I have, yeah"
"How long before you can close your eyes without it being there?"
Spencer gives him a small smile.
"I'm afraid I still don't know."
BABYYYYYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭
Criminal Minds season 4 episode 20 I forgot the timestamp 😭my way of seeing this scene 🥹

okay i have not seen a single soul on this app talk about this yet…. but has anyone wondered how lyra’s mother might have reacted to her ex husbands death?
like im just so curious about it. was she upset? glad? angry? numb? or was she quick to get over it because she had remarried already? like im sure the stepdad might have been shocked but i can only picture him being upset for lyra and lyra’s mom as he probably didn’t know him that well.
and honestly i can picture lyra’s mom being really upset and overall devastated at the loss of her ex, bc from the words of nash hawthorne, “just because you stop loving somebody doesn’t mean they stop mattering to you”.
i also really wanna see if their relationship was kind of like the devastating one that hannah and toby had. like maybe the only reason they got a divorce was because he knew he had to die and didn’t want to put that on her shoulders when she was still married to him, and wanted lyra to have a father figure in her life. why he had to die is unsure, but maybe he had information that tobias couldn’t risk getting out so he blackmailed him to shoot himself.
ANYWAY IM JUST GETTING LOST IN MY DELUSIONS BC I LOVE WHEN WE GET TO HEAR ABOUT THOSE “HAUNTING THE NARRATIVE” RELATIONSHIPS, AND TBH HANNAH AND TOBY ARE ONE OF THOSE, SO I WANT LYRAS MOM AND DAD TO BE ONE OF THOSE TOO 🫣🫣 (tell me why finding out about what happened to lyra’s dad is what im most excited for in tgg 💀😭)
ALSO ON A SIDE NOTE, TELL ME WHY IM LOWKEY IMAGINE THE SONG LOML BY TAYLOR SWIFT WITH THEM. LIKE THE ENTIRE SONG IS ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP DYING AND DEATH IN GENERAL, SO IT LOWKEY FITS NGL ☠️☠️

since i’m having an inheritance games brainrot currently, i decided to throw together taylor swift songs/lyrics that i thought fit the characters. it was actually really hard but i’d totally do it again-
Avery Kylie Grambs: …Ready For It? - “Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him. Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted. But if he's a ghost, then I can be a phantom, holdin' him for ransom.”
Libby Grambs: Tied Together With A Smile(I also really considered Begin Again) - “I guess it's true that love was all you wanted, 'cause you're givin' it away like it's extra change, hoping it will end up in his pocket, but he leaves you out like a penny in the rain.”
Nash Westbrook Hawthorne: Fearless - “We're drivin' down the road, I wonder if you know I'm tryin' so hard not to get caught up now. But you're just so cool, run your hands through your hair. Absentmindedly makin' me want you.”
Grayson Davenport Hawthorne: cardigan - “You drew stars around my scars, but now I'm bleedin'. 'Cause I knew you, steppin' on the last train, marked me like a bloodstain, I- I knew you tried to change the ending; Peter losing Wendy.”
Jameson Winchester Hawthorne: Mine - “Do you remember, we were sittin', there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time. You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter. You are the best thing, that's ever been mine.”
Alexander Blackwood Hawthorne: The Archer - “I've been the archer, I've been the prey. Who could ever leave me, darling? But who could stay?”
Tobias Tattersall Hawthorne: Mastermind - “What if I told you none of it was accidental? And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me? I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork the dominoes cascaded in a line. What if I told you I'm a mastermind?”
Skye Hawthorne: the last great american dynasty - “‘There goes the last great American dynasty’ ‘Who knows if she never showed up, what could've been’ ‘There goes the most shameless woman this town has ever seen’ ‘She had a marvelous time ruinin' everything’.”
Zara Hawthorne-Calligaris: Better Than Revenge - “I had it all I had him right there where I wanted him. She came along, got him alone, and let's hear the applause; She took him faster than you could say ‘sabotage’.”
Toby Hawthorne: closure - “Don't treat me like some situation that needs to be handled. I'm fine with my spite, and my tears, and my beers and my candles. I can feel you smoothing me over”
Pearl O’day: no body, no crime - “She thinks I did it but she just can't prove it. No, no body, no crime. I wasn't letting up until the day he… died.”
Alisa Ortega: Midnight Rain - He was sunshine, I was midnight rain. He wanted comfortable, I wanted that pain. He wanted a bride, I was making my own name.”
Maxine Liu: dorothea - “You got shiny friends since you left town, a tiny screen's the only place I see you now, and I got nothing but well wishes for ya.”
Thea Calligaris: New Romantics - “We need love, but all we want is danger. We team up, then switch sides like a record changer. The rumors are terrible and cruel; But honey, most of them are true.”
Rebecca Laughlin: tolerate it - “I greet you with a battle hero's welcome. I take your indiscretions all in good fun. I sit and listen, I polish plates until they gleam and glisten. You're so much older and wiser and I.”
Emily Laughlin: Wildest Dreams - “Say you'll remember me, standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe. Red lips and rosy cheeks; Say you'll see me again, even if it's just in your wildest dreams.”

There was something so peaceful about Ethan’s apartment tonight. Had this apartment always been peaceful? No, it couldn’t have been. Only last night, it was a mausoleum dedicated to the loss of true love.
But tonight, it was impossible to imagine these halls echoing anything but affection and contentment. The air tasted sweeter, the space felt warmer, the laughs were louder. One night of Charlie’s presence exorcised the ghosts that haunted Ethan in the middle of the night.
The change was subtle, but Ethan felt it with every step he took.
She’s here, he thought as he towel-dried his hair. She’s here, he thought as he stepped into his pajamas. She’s here, he thought as he savored the smell of her shampoo lingering in the damp air. She’s here, he thought as he padded to the living room.
Boston stared back at him through the windows – all the tallest buildings winking their congratulations.
The dim-lit space left evidence of Charlie’s presence in every corner – her shoes by the door, the crumbled pillow by her favorite chair, and the assortment of hair ties that followed her every step. Ethan was greedy for more of it, his usual tidiness be damned.
Ethan poured himself a glass of water and tapped the keypad of his laptop, waking it so he could check the time. With Charlie, time seemed to stop, but just as he suspected, it had continued for the rest of the world. It was late, so late that they should have been in bed hours ago if Charlie wanted to be well-rested for work tomorrow. But Ethan didn’t regret a moment of their night, nor was he eager to go to sleep now.
Stifling a yawn, Ethan curiously opened his notifications, and he was startled by the staggering amount.
At the top of the screen were the expected messages. HR paperwork for his new position with the hospital. Confirmation emails for cancelled movers. Pleas from a devastated recruiter trying to convince him to leave Boston anyway.
Then, there were the text messages reacting to the news. The Edenbrook rumor mill worked quickly, and by the time Ethan picked up Charlie from work, there were already whispers about their illicit affair.
Harper’s message came first. She was happy to hear that Charlie and Ethan were together, but she chastised Ethan for keeping the secret in the first place, though she insisted she’d sensed it long ago. She demanded dinner with the two of them as an apology, and Ethan typed back his assent, apologizing for lying to his friend and promising to make dinner reservations as soon as possible.
When Ethan sent his reply, he was surprised to realize that he was looking forward to dinner with Charlie and Harper. It wasn’t the first time that the trio spent time together, but it would be the first dinner where Charlie and Ethan didn’t have to perform, stifling themselves to avoid drawing attention to their relationship. Ethan liked the idea of integrating Charlie fully into his life – acknowledging the long-held truth that she was the most important part of it.
Above Harper’s gracious congratulations, Tobias Carrick sent a string of texts. It was clear that he hadn’t paced himself or censored a single thought, resulting in a string of consciousness as Tobias unraveled the revelations.
TOBIAS: I KNEW IT! I can’t believe you got caught MAKING OUT with a RESIDENT before you told me!
TOBIAS: Though Charlie is wonderful.
TOBIAS: So why does she like you then? She knows you enough to know better. How did you convince her to date you?
TOBIAS: Someone just told me you’ve been dating for a year. That better be a lie.
TOBIAS: No, it’s not. You’ve been evasive all year. That’s why, isn’t it?
TOBIAS: Then again, you’re always evasive and awkward.
TOBIAS: My office is next to yours, and I swear I heard noises today.
TOBIAS: Just heard the news that you’re leaving. Don’t fret. I’ll be the leader the Diagnostics Team has always needed.
The last message came a few hours later, when Tobias had clearly processed the news and felt it necessary to give a more cohesive and gracious response.
TOBIAS: Seriously though, congratulations. I’m proud of you.
TOBIAS: But don’t screw it up.
Ethan didn’t really consider Tobias a friend – not after their antagonistic history and current conflicts. But this string of texts tugged on some part of Ethan’s heart that had once considered Tobias his best friend. Perhaps it was worth trying again, even if this was just evidence that Tobias was as insufferable as ever.
ETHAN: Thank you.
There wasn’t much else to say, so Ethan didn’t bother trying. And frankly, for him, it was quite a lot.
After Tobias’s messages, there were a few more. Some of Charlie’s friends reached out to say they were happy for them. Sienna tentatively endorsed the relationship, though she reserved the right to murder Ethan if he messed up again. Jackie’s threats against Ethan were far less veiled, and Bryce sent at least a dozen excited emojis.  Naveen wrote with glee, boasting that their reunion had all gone to plan. When Ethan questioned Naveen’s direct defiance, Naveen ignored the question and offered the happy couple a weekend at his lake house to celebrate. Gracious for the offer (and Naveen’s interference), Ethan didn’t push it.
Nor did he need to push it.
Because there she was – his darling, wonderful Charlotte.
With Jenner close on her heels, Charlie wandered into the kitchen. The familiar scent of coconut and vanilla followed her, enveloping Ethan’s senses long before she looped her arms around his waist and nuzzled into him.
“There you are,” Charlie murmured, resting her cheek on his bare back. His skin was warm and scented with the mixture of their respective body washes – each still sitting in Ethan’s shower as if no time had passed.
In some ways, that made Charlie sad. She didn’t like to picture Ethan ending each night, staring at her half-empty bodywash and refusing to throw it away, even when he’d lost hope of her ever coming home. But the grief for their lost time was only a momentary interruption. In its wake, gratitude emerged. Because she had come home, and the bodywash was still waiting for her.
Ethan smiled softly, abandoning his laptop and twisting his body so that they were face-to-face.  He leaned down to kiss the crown of her head, and Charlie shifted, leaning further into his embrace.
“What are you up to?” Charlie asked, her voice still in a daze.
The day had been so perfect – their reunion, their afternoon, their time at home. They’d spent most of the evening tangled in Ethan’s sheets, but not a moment of it had been quiet. They’d consumed each other in every way possible, from touch to speech. No time had passed, yet there was so much to catch up on.
“Missing you,” Ethan confessed.
Charlie laughed, “It’s been ten minutes since I kicked you out of the shower so I could actually wash my hair without you distracting me.”
“Way too long.”
“You’re ridiculous,” Charlie rolled her eyes, but it was the blush creeping up her cheeks that made Ethan smile. He kissed the flush as it spread up her skin, and he smiled against her cheek as she laughed.
Had anyone else ever been so happy?
“But really,” Charlie playfully swatted Ethan’s shoulder, “What are you doing? If it’s work, I’ll be obligated to make fun of you.”
Ethan shook his head, shifting so they could both face the laptop, “You’ll enjoy this.”
With a few clicks, Ethan brought up Tobias’s text thread. Somehow, the messages were even funnier from Charlie’s perspective. He lit up as he watched her read the messages, laughing at things he hadn’t even noticed before. Then, he showed her the other congratulatory messages. He thought she would like to see the well-wishes, but really, it was a silent effort to show he embraced the promises he’d made to her. He wanted her to know that he wasn’t hiding her anymore.
And Charlie appreciated every bit of it.
She reveled in the idea of dinners with friends. She wanted to be Ethan’s “plus one” to every event, even she’d have to throw her own party to get the opportunity. She liked how easily they talked about it, how Ethan actively participated in their planning without any pressure.
It was night and day from the man she’d once stormed out on.
Her chest ached with pride.
When Ethan reached Naveen’s message, he almost seemed nervous. As if suggesting a weekend away might break their fragile perfection.
“What do you think?” Ethan asked, when Charlie had sufficient time to read the exchange, “A weekend at the lake?”
Ethan had a whole pitch planned out. He was ready to remind Charlie that spring had just reached the city, the sunshine melting the ice and promising new beginnings. They could get out of the city and reconnect in the place where they’d first fallen in love. It felt like the right place to start their new chapter.
But a pitch wasn’t necessary.
“Yeah,” Charlie smiled softly, “A weekend with Dr. Ramsey. Sounds perfect.”
“A weekend with Dr. Greene,” Ethan echoed, mirroring her soft smile as he rubbed a gentle pattern on her back.
Charlie leaned into Ethan’s side, exhaustion peaking through their blinding happiness. Both of them were tempted to evade sleep altogether and stay awake all night, trading their wasted hours of rest with the promise of tender whispers and sacred promises. But relaxation had already seeped into their bones and lowered their defenses. They were both fighting to stay awake.
It was Ethan who declared the first move.
Pressing a tender kiss to Charlie’s forehead, Ethan suggested, “We should go to bed.”
“No, no,” Charlie shook her head, “It’s too early.”
“You have to be at work in a few hours,” Ethan reminded her, though he lacked conviction. He was just as willing to stay up all night as she was, if not more so since he didn’t have a morning shift.
“I’m a resident. I can handle a sleepless night.”
“Come on,” Ethan nudged her gently, “You’re being stubborn.”
“So are you.”
Ethan shrugged, Fair point.
Charlie eyed him warily – ready for battle. Ready for their opposing wills to dominate their minds until they were forced to pick a winner. Ready to draw blood before admitting defeat.
But then a moment passed, and it was all silly.
Charlie was tired, and Ethan would still be here in the morning. He would be there the night after, and the day after, and every day they were willing to share.
So, Charlie said, “Fine. Let’s go to bed.”
Ethan appreciated the magnanimous resolution, and he peppered her cheeks with quiet praise. Though, admittedly, he was inclined to think that everything Charlotte did was perfect. After kissing Jenner goodnight, the pair went to Ethan’s bedroom, ignoring the alarm clock on Ethan’s bedside table that would surely ruin their morning.
It wasn’t Charlie’s first time in Ethan’s bed tonight, but when she climbed into her usual place on the right side of the bed, it felt monumental.
The rose-colored glasses of their reunion lifted, and the gravity of the situation forced them back to earth. Instead of feeling silly for their reverence, they felt absurd for not having more.
War is over. The end of days never came. Insurmountable grief faded away. All the terrible things didn’t matter anymore. The past was in black and white, and the future was painted in vivid color and neon welcome signs.
Charlie is home. Charlie is in our bed. Everything is right, Ethan thought.
Charlie and Ethan tried to act casual as they settled into the sheets, but they couldn’t help but stare at the other. Their eyes were wide with meaning, communicating what neither had the bravery to say. When Charlie’s eyes began to water, Ethan quietly stroked her cheek.
After what felt like a lifetime, Ethan whispered, “I really did miss you.”
As if something like that needed to be said. As if it didn’t carry through every conversation. As if it wasn’t part of his DNA. As if she didn’t feel it with every adoring kiss and smile.
“I missed you, too,” Charlie met his honesty with her own, though her voice lacked his strength. At the slightest hint of a crack, Ethan tucked Charlie into his embrace, and Charlie took the opportunity to breath him in.
Sandalwood. Cedar. Vanilla. A hint of mint.
The smell of home, she thought.
Nestled safely in Ethan’s arms, Charlie’s eyelids grew heavy. Weeks of sleepless nights caught up with her in an instant, rendering her half-asleep in mere moments. As Ethan peered down at her, his chest squeezed with affection.
And suddenly, he knew.
He knew with absolute certainty that Charlotte Greene was his future.
He was overcome with an urge to propose right then and there. It didn’t matter that he didn’t have a ring or a plan or even ambience. Ethan just wanted to marry her. Hell, given the option, he would have run to City Hall right then and there to seal the deal.
Ethan opened his mouth to speak, but something stopped him.
We need time, he realized. The wounds were too fresh and the peace too fragile. He didn’t want to rush into anything that would endanger their precious newfound happiness, nor did he need to rush.
So, despite his overwhelming urge to the contrary, Ethan decided to wait – and it was just waiting. Not refusing or dismissing the idea. He knew they would make it, and he was sure that she would say yes when it was time.
But stopping himself from proposing didn’t eradicate all Ethan’s impulses.
No, he wasn’t out of grand gestures or over-eager requests.
“Move in with me,” Ethan blurted out.
Charlie stirred, wiping at her eyes as she sleepily asked, “What?”
“Move in with me,” Ethan repeated, less confident this time.
“You’re serious?” Charlie’s eyes widened.
“I am,” Ethan nodded, though he didn’t seem very sure. Despite his obvious commitment to the idea she move in, he didn’t have his argument ready – a rarity in itself. Ethan had never made any big life decision without a reasoned argument.
“You’re always here anyway,” Ethan softened, eagerness belying every justification, “and I want you here. All the time. I want to come home to you and share our closet, and I want to add your books to our bookshelves. We’re living in the ‘in between’ – with you sometimes living here and sometimes not. I’m tired of that. I want to be with you fully. In every way I can. This isn’t home without you.”
Charlie hesitated.
She was startled to realize that she already knew the answer. Before he even started talking, she wanted to say yes. And there was no good reason to say no.
It seemed rushed, but was it really? They’d been together for over a year, and she’d spent more nights here than anywhere else. Did time apart fundamentally change that? Did they feel so fragile that sudden changes would shatter them? Or had it been the status quo that drove them apart in the first place?
And did any of it fucking matter?
Would waiting really make things better? Would a slow approach save them from future disaster? Hiding hadn’t done them any favors, nor had abundant caution kept them from starting their relationship in the first place.
Charlie wanted to come home to Ethan. She wanted to put a name to all the things they’d silently endorsed for months, including her continued presence in this apartment. She wanted to cover the space with evidence of their relationship until it was little more than a shrine.
So, perhaps she didn’t give the offer the careful consideration it deserved. Or maybe she gave it too much consideration when the answer would always be the same.
“Yes,” Charlie blurted out.
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah,” Charlie nodded, realization creeping across her features, “My answer is yes. I want to move in with you.”
Ethan breathed a sigh of relief, happily covering her face with kisses. Between excited kisses, he assured her that she could always keep her old apartment, and he would understand if she changed her mind.
Charlie stopped him, “You don’t need to do that.”
“Do what?”
“Try to form a back-up plan,” Charlie settled her gaze on his, “I’m confident we’ll work out.”
“You are?” Ethan repeated breathlessly. It was one thing for Ethan to be blind in love, but it was quite another to realize she was just as high off this feeling.
“Yeah,” Charlie rested her hand on his chest, feeling the jackhammer of his heart, “Aren’t you?”
And amazingly, he was.
Nodding his head, Ethan whispered, “Yeah, I am.”
“Good,” Charlie leaned her head against his chest, “I love you, Ethan.”
“I love you, too, Charlotte.”
That was how they fell asleep – holding onto each other with persistent desperation and adoring reverence. Like they were so lucky to even get the opportunity to fall asleep together. Like it was a gift from the universe that they were here with each other. But it was better than fate – it was deliberate choice. It was an active effort to stay.
And it was the beginning of everything.

Here's a potential little prompt for Casey! Use as you see fit, or delete if you don't see fit! lol :)
Who am I?
Book: Open Heart (post series)
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC Casey Ramsey
Category: fluffy angst
Rating: PG
Word count: 401
Warnings: mentions of mental health
Summary: Casey is due to have baby Hudson in about six weeks and she is already starting to feel some of the loss of identity that occurs when a child is born. As a pre baby Mother’s Day present, Ethan tries to ease some of Casey’s concerns
Disclaimer: Characters belong to Pixelberry.
Author’s note: thank you to @jerzwriter for not only sending me this prompt but for also hosting a Mother’s Day event for which this is a submission for.
The identity change that happens when we welcome a young one and the changes around that are real and it affects people differently.
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Mothers Day 2025
It was six weeks until they were due to meet baby Hudson. The pregnancy was a wanted surprise and thankfully, aside from some morning sickness, the pregnancy had been relatively trouble free. Casey had clearance to work up until 36 weeks gestation. Casey had already begun handing over some of her duties to Aurora Emery, who was going to be the team leader whilst she was on leave. Tobias was also helping out where he could also.
Despite everything going well, Casey could not help but start to feel the gravity of the changes that baby Hudson was going to bring to their lives, especially hers. It was humbling that she soon there was going to be this tiny human who will be completely dependant on her. She was looking forward to being a mum but the thoughts of the loss of identity that came with that were starting to haunt her. Despite reassurances from her friends, the team, Harper and Ethan, she could not help but feel that who she was now, Dr Casey Ramsey would be lost.
Ethan was already at a lost with what to say or do, at least without coming off as condescending. So he got to searching. Even though Hudson was not born yet, he still wanted to do something, to celebrate the upcoming milestone for them. He was looking at coffee mugs, he did not know fully why, they both had several anyway but one caught his eye.
“It’s Miss, Ms. Mrs
Dr.
Actually”
Written on the side. He ordered it thinking that it would be a cute and useful reminder that she will always be Dr Casey Ramsey.
Mother’s Day came and Ethan made her breakfast. He brought it to her in bed. He then gave her the box with the mug inside. Casey opened it, having no idea what it was and she the mug, chuckled and then hugged Ethan.
“No one can take away the title of Doctor, not even our son. You will soon be a mother but you will never stop being a Doctor.” Says Ethan.
Casey kisses him sweetly.
“Thank you Ethan, I am sure I will need reminding of this but thank you.”
They spent a lazy morning in bed before heading out to lunch and both were excited that this time next year they would have someone else to celebrate Mother’s Day with.
Authors note: hooray I was able to keep it to Drabble length for the Mother’s Day Drabble event.
Casey did need to be reminded several times in the first year of Hudson’s life that she was still a doctor, not just a mum.

A Flower and a Bird
Longer version posted on AO3
And if I tell you all that Eileen used to give Lily and Severus lessons on Gobstones? That Severus found them ridiculous, but Lily delighted in the foul smelling liquid the stones spat out? That Eileen and Lily would gang up against Sev on those very rare quiet moments and snigger as he sputtered with the nasty smell all over him? What if I told you that Lily never grew impressed with Quiditch like James and Sev because she had already fallen in love with Gobstones? That James once curiously asked her how she was so good at it and she told him about Sev's mother teaching her. What if I told you Eileen and her still corresponded even after everything, that Eileen apologised to Lily for failing to teach her son... everything, it seems. That she asked Lily to, if not protect, then at least not kill Severus, should they come face to face on the battlefield. What if I told you that Lily promised Eileen this, but wondered if Sev would afford her the same consideration. And Eileen laughed at even the thought of her son hurting that sweet girl (and isn't that what she thought about Tobias and oh how that backfired). What if I told you that Severus confessed to his mother what he did as she was still absorbing the news of Lily's death whose words come back to haunt her. And she looks around the silent house, missing the tyrant that used to haunt it thanks to the brave mad girl who smashed his head in trying to stop him from hitting Eileen ("Don't tell Sev, please! Just say he ran away or something!"). A gift in return for the marvellous set of Gobstones Eileen had gifted her. And she looks at her son, the boy who killed the girl he should have cherished, and for the first time she sees only his father.
What if I tell you Eileen leaves Cokeworth that day, leaves Severus because she cannot even look at him without seeing Lily Evans in whom she always sensed the wish for reconciliation. She leaves the country where prejudice seeps in every corner, corrupting and killing her son and her daughter.
What if I tell you years pass and Severus dies, but Eileen lives on in Japan, making a home for herself among the mountains where she plays Shogi with muggle men and women, and Gobstones with the magical folk, running her little vegetable noodle shop. Her son is gone, finally reunited with his friend and four decades have passed where Eileen has healed the scars from her marriage, from the endless wars, from the family that couldn't accept her views, from the loss of the children she loved so very much.
What if I tell you a couple stumbles into her shop, the blonde among them looking worse for wear, yet on the path of healing like her. What if I tell you his husband tells her of finding a cure for the family curse ailing his love. What if I tell you she congratulates the exhausted men on their successful adventures. What if I tell you as the men leave, the dark haired man introduces himself to her, abashed at having forgotten his manners in his exuberance to share his happiness.
"Albus Severus Potter, ma'am," he shakes her hand with a wide grin.
Eileen looks into Lily's eyes, at the last vestiges of Severus and smiles.
"Nice to meet you, son."

Okay, here are some extended author's notes for the second chapter of Meet You at the End:
Caitlyn is trying here guys, but she's got her own issues surrounding Jinx's death. Remember that this is all from her POV too, so there are things she's not noticing or thinking about.
Vi is drinking to numb the pain of what she's done and to keep herself from thinking about it too much. Keep in mind that she's haunted by the idea that there might have been another way.
Vi grabbing Caitlyn's arm in the bathroom helps create that niggling doubt that Caitlyn has about Vi hurting her.
I do wonder how much they might've resolved if they had actually talked to each other that first night after Vi disappeared.
The Sump is actually a place in the League of Legends lore; it's at the lowest levels of the Undercity and the people there do recognize outsiders based on how much sun they get.
When I imagined the Pit, I envisioned something a bit smaller than what we've seen in the trailers and clips from season 2.
The regular matches at the Pit have rules. Killing is obviously not allowed, opponent must be down for three seconds to win, etc.
Vi doesn't strike me as the kind of person to actively hurt herself, she's much more inclined to let others do it. Pit matches allow her to fight back, which gives her some control and lets her feel like she's earned the beating she gets when she loses.
About Vi and Caitlyn's fight: Caitlyn is exhausted and overworked and worried, Vi is in physical and emotional pain. That's a bad place to start. Throw on top of that all of the actual issues…
Cassandra Kiramman strikes me as someone who is used to being obeyed. I think Caitlyn learned this from her, which is why she puts her foot down the way she does.
I really hope I managed to get the idea that neither Caitlyn nor Vi is entirely in the right here. It's unfair of Caitlyn to expect Vi to just stop grieving and it's unfair of Vi to put Caitlyn through the stress of trying to take care of her.
Which brings us to this: Vi has been waiting for this argument. She rolls her eyes at Caitlyn because she knows it's coming and decides to just get it over with. She is deliberately forcing Caitlyn away so that it'll be easier on both of them when she goes down and doesn't get back up.
I have Thoughts on Cassandra Kiramman. She's a Councilor during Jayce's trial, so she definitely had some say over Grayson hunting down a group of kids. I absolutely think she was on the Council during the massacre on the Bridge.
In both the show and the Enemy music video, we see Vi physically lash out when she's angry. She went for the dresser instead of Caitlyn.
I love Tobias so much.
The cage fights at the Pit have no rules really. They only happen every so often, and when they do, they're typically fights to the death. I personally like the idea that the only reason Vi didn't end up IN the dumpster is because the lanky guy said he wanted her.
I do think Caitlyn would've killed him if he hadn't left Vi alone.
Originally, I had planned for the "Then leave" line to be a lot angrier and for Caitlyn to leave for a bit before going back. But I think that Vi has just given up the fight and Caitlyn has already decided that she's not going anywhere.
Don't read into the "I'm not a good person to love." I absolutely am not projecting in any way whatsoever.
Yeah, I had to call back to Blood and Bone. :)
The stomach bleeding actually isn't quite as bad as it seems, from what little research I did. As long as it's not too serious, it should stop bleeding after a bit and will heal on its own. Vi would probably know this.
God, I have such a thing for caretaking. I'm just throwing that trope into everything like it's my favorite spice blend.

Short Jarogen Fanfic 🌹
Tickling - in the least creepy way that can sound 💀
Pretty dissapointed. I'm lacking my usual motivation so I don't really like how it turned out.
Beware potentially grammar and spelling mistakes. I neglected to proof-read
Tried Roden's perspective for the first time... maybe that's why it ended up like this lol
Background: he tickled her first. This is just payback
👑
Neither screams nor begging for mercy were a good sign. I had fought in enough battles to know it. I had also fought in enough battles to know who the screams belonged to... Jaron.
My legs carried me of their own accord as I raced through the halls of his living quarters. Feeling the emptiness in my body fill with dread, and my mouth water in anticipation of vomit. Surely I wouldn't keel over and wretch out of fear of failing my duties, my King, my friend, before at least avenging him.
I pulled my sword free on the move, bursting through the doors enough to rattle their hinges and snap the wooden lock in two.
In an instant the screaming ceased. Replaced by the haunting noise of his laboured breath.
"Roden? What do you want?" Imogen was standing over a body that was jammed as far as possible into the wall.
I didn't know why she was so calm, and... irritated?
Practically leaping to their side, I finally caught sight of Jaron. Skin red from strain, but not from blood. Sweaty and dishevelled. Eyes widening with unprecedented levels of fear.
I reached out to pull him to his feet, but Imogen's hand stopped mine. "Don't you dare even think about interfering with my experiment."
I resheathed my sword, albiet hesitantly, "Will you at least tell me what the hell is going on? I could have killed you."
The joy on Imogen's face was strangely unsettling, "I'll show you instead."
She began reaching over, at which Jaron cowered further into the corner, turning the side of his body that Imogen was targeting into the wall. Failing, despite his extensive training, to anticipate the second attack from the other side. Imogen jammed her fingers into his flank and he burst.
Like a dam, the laughter was explosive. Easily mistaken for screams as the begging returned twofold. When he covered his sides with his arms, Imogen simply moved to his neck. It was an endless, deadly loop.
She stopped and turned to me, victorious. "So, what do you think?"
"I think that is a form of torture."
"Oh, don't be such a downer."
She kissed his head and for the first time it didn't magically turn him into a happy, pliable mess. He remained ridged and guarded.
Imogen crossed her arms, "Maybe I did go too far."
My own barely-constrained laughter began to fill the room. Rather manically. But in my defence, I did just have the scare of my life. "This is great," I chuckled. "No, this is fantastic. No... this is ground-breaking."
"This isn't and excuse for you to practice your vocabulary," Jaron finally said something. With the bitterness of someone who wasn't rescued in time in time.
"Sorry, honey. I got a bit carried away."
"That's the most insincere apology I think I've ever heard," I said, earning a glare from them both. "I can't tell you how relieved I am you're not being assassinated or something."
"That would be the preferable alternative," Jaron snapped as Tobias, Mott and Amarinda all entered the room, panting with exertion.
"Is everything ok? Sounded like someone was dying."

Chapter 1 : hollow
Spencer sat alone in his dimly lit apartment, the shadows of the evening creeping through the blinds. His usually obsessively kept clean living space was now cluttered with books scattered haphazardly, magazines, mugs, unwashed dishes, and clothes. He had not slept properly in days, haunted by memories and nightmares.
His hands trembled as he pulled the needle from his arm, the familiar burn of the drugs coursing through his veins. He exhaled shakily, momentarily numb to the pain that had become a constant. The room around him seemed to blur, edges softening as the colors brightened, and the sounds of cars and people outside his apartment became distant. He leaned back on the couch, placing the now empty vial on the coffee table.
His life was unbearable. Every time he closed his eyes, he was back in that dark, damp shed , tied to the wooden chair. "Confess," Tobias Hankel's words echoed.
"Confess your sins."
"I have nothing to confess," his pained voice had begged.
He really didn't, but now he does, he has so much to confess.
"It helps,"
Tobias whispered, almost like an answer.
"I don't want it," his own voice had begged.
He was broken that night, shattered, nothing is normal anymore, he isn't himself and the world isn't itself, his world stopped that day.
Slowly, Spencer rose from the couch and made his way to the door. The simple act of standing felt monumental, his legs heavy and uncooperative. He picked up his phone. No new messages. No missed calls. It had been weeks since anyone had reached out to him. The team was busy, always busy with something. And maybe it's his fault, too ashamed and broken to seek help.
He sank back onto the couch. Were they so unaware of his suffering? Or choosing to ignore it? (Maybe to keep him in the Bureau?) They didn't understand; they couldn't understand. How could they? They hadn't lived through the nightmare he had endured.
The silence in the room was deafening and the thoughts only made it worse. Spencer reached for one of the newspapers scattered on the coffee table and began to flip through its pages. One headline caught his attention, something about "the vengeful vigilante", a vigilante killer, but Spencer couldn't get himself to finish reading and threw the newspaper away.
And in a rare moment of clarity, Spencer thought of talking to someone, anyone. He picked up his phone and scrolled through his contacts, stopping at familiar names. Morgan, JJ, Garcia, Hotch... He couldn't bear the thought of them seeing him like this, so weak and vulnerable and fucking high. He kept scrolling until he reached a name he hadn't seen in a long time: Elle Greenaway. He paused, his thumb hovering over the call button. But the fear of rejection, of judgment, was too strong. He put the phone down and buried his face in his hands.
The tears came then, hot and unbidden. Spencer wept for everything, for the life he's losing, the person he used to be. He cried for the friends he had pushed away. Guilt, regret, and grief gnawed at him. And the Dilaudid only seemed to heighten his pain, make it more hazy, muddy, blurry. But it didn't make it fucking go away.
Eventually, the tears subsided, leaving him exhausted and hollow. Spencer lay back on the couch, staring at the ceiling.
His phone buzzed, the sudden noise startling him and he picked it up ,
A text from JJ:
"We have a case. Meet us at HQ ASAP."
He stared at the text, words blurring through his tears and the haze of the drugs. But it was nice. Work had always been a distraction, a way to drown out the pain.
He got up and got dressed quickly. He glanced at the clock, realizing he needed to leave soon. His fingers fumbled as he gathered his things, his hands still shaking. He grabbed his gun and badge, shoving them into his bag, and took one last look around his disheveled apartment before heading out the door.

BTHB 2023 - Fill 1 - Demonic/Ghostly Possession
Tumblr media
Guess who's taking another stab at BTHB? Meeeeeee! I think this time I won't force myself to do one a day, I think that'll help with avoiding burnout!
Shout-out to @brinkofdiscovery for letting me borrow Andrew and Tobias, I love them both SO muchhhh. Also he helped me pick the marker for prompt fills so we can also thank him for that.
TWs: Possession
William screamed. The awful, cracking noise bounced down the hallways of the hospital, echoing in the cafeteria that Andrew, Tobias, and Elliot had been checking out. The three froze, looking at each other as it faded into the night.
Elliot had never heard William sound like that before.
The color drained from Tobias and Andrew's skin, Andrew not even able to grin. Wide green eyes met Elliot's, before they both looked at Tobias. It felt like an eternity passed.
"Fuck." Tobias swore, the light of his flashlight wheeling around as he turned back towards the doors. "Fuck, you guys checked this place before we came in right?" He snapped, dark eyes burning with anger.
"Yeah! We did!" Andrew snapped back, launching into a run right behind Tobias. "There wasn't anyone in here, and I set up motion sensors at the entrances!" Elliot had watched him do it, and helped him test them.
For some reason, that just made Elliot's blood run even colder. If it wasn't just some homeless person minding their own business, he didn't want to think about what had gotten that hair-raising noise out of William. He'd seen him stroll through intense haunted houses without flinching. William wasn't jumpy.
Sure, William had been hesitant to come along, but as soon as Tobias had wanted to join in on the ghost hunting, he'd sighed and agreed to it. This was just supposed to be them fucking around in an abandoned building for a few hours. It should've just been something dumb and a little unnerving that they laughed about next week. It was supposed to be okay.
Skidding to a stop, all three froze at the doorway to where they'd decided their "home base" would be. Training their flashlights inside, it took them a moment to spot William. On his hands and knees, clutching his throat with an empty water bottle beside him and his white cane tossed aside, he shuddered and coughed.
"Hey..." Tobias started. Elliot realized the air felt impossibly heavy, charged like lightning was about to strike. "Will? Babe?"
William didn't move, the throaty hacking seeming to steal all the air from his lungs. Elliot could see how his nails dug into his face and neck, blunt crescents all but piercing his skin. He heaved like he wanted to be sick, but couldn't.
"What happened--" Tobias began to take a step forward.
William's head snapped up, pinning them in place with his gaze before Tobias could cross the threshold. "Don't--" He barked, his voice strained and hoarse. "Don't come in." It sounded like he had to fight to get every word out, long hair messy and free from its elastic. Water dripped from his lips and down his chin, as if he'd frantically tried to chug it.
"Hey, this isn't funny." Andrew said, forcing a nervous laugh anyway. "That wasn't cool. C'mon." This time, when Andrew tried to step into the room, William lunged for the door. He threw himself to the floor with a snarl before grabbing his own wrist and tugging it to his chest.
"Don't come in, please." William's voice broke as he whined and pressed his face into the filthy tile floor. "Don't--it, it wants--" One hand wound into his own hair, tugging harsh enough to rip some out alongside a yelp.
Elliot felt like he was suffocating. "Guys, I don't think he's joking." Not even Andrew could've been committed enough to this bit to pull out hair, much less William. What did they even do now? William was the one who'd even brought anti-ghost shit.
"We need that bag." Andrew said, looking at the ripped-open backpack behind where William had curled up again. "He said there was stuff in there in case this happened." Candles, beads, paper, ink, and bottles of water with "HOLY: FR. LUCAS" scrawled on them in marker, they all just about shone in the bright circles of light the three of them cast into the room.
But it all lay behind William, who'd gone still. "This can't be fucking real." Tobias whispered, as tense as Elliot had ever seen him. "We just have to get out of here, and--and it'll fix shit." Elliot wasn't sure if Tobias even believed what he was saying. "C'mon, Andrew, you grab the bag and his cane, Elliot, you help me get him. Fuck the sensors, we'll buy you new ones."
Without waiting for feedback on this new plan to cut and run, Tobias strode into the room. Everything happened too quickly for any of them to react in time.
"No!" William screamed again, this time harsher, full of panic that tore at his vocal cords and triumph that couldn't have been his.
A chair from the corner of the room flung itself over him, right towards Tobias.
The door slammed shut, locking Tobias in.
A third voice joined in the cacophony inside, high and wild--an uncanny imitation of William--coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.
"Y e s !"

Mistakes (Tobias x OC)
Book: Open Heart Pairing: Dr. Tobias Carrick x Dr. Nyla Hassan (F!OC) Premise: He wanted to start over, but she wanted no such thing. Rating / Category: Teen / Angst; Slow Burn Warning(s): Strong language Word Count: 1,168 words
A/N: Life has once again punched me in the face, but I’m so happy to be back here, writing for my babies. Will catch up with everything super duper soon. In the meantime, please enjoy this!
Tumblr media
It was a terrifically normal day at the hospital for Tobias Carrick.
He checked in on all of his patients, signed their charts, ran some tests, continued research on their latest case, and went out to Derry’s Roasters with Ethan during lunch break because that was the only place that he could drag his best friend without him complaining.
A perfectly, utterly normal working day.
Except for the small, minor, teeny-tiny fact that he has not been able to stop thinking about Nyla since their first meeting.
Perhaps it was the way she caught his attention, reeling him into the depths of her warm caramel irises. Perhaps it was the way that they touched; her soft hand meeting his own, firm yet delicate at the same time. Perhaps it was the way she spoke to him, her feathery light voice effortlessly putting a hazy spell on him.
Or perhaps it was the way that she crushed his ego and undermined his ability as a doctor and a leader to his old team in just a few sentences.
Christ, this was pathetic.
Even for him.
Releasing a weighted sigh, Tobias shut down his laptop and closed his navy blue notebook. Her exact words, undoubtedly stitched with anger and disappointment, echoed inside his tangled thoughts. Shoulders slouching forward, he took a moment to close his eyes—savoring every last drop of tranquility within these four walls that he could get.
Still, he could not get her voice out of his head.
Her gentle voice, her airy voice. Brittle, as cold as the first ice of winter. Ringing in the distance, haunting him—or, more accurately, taunting him. There was a hint of calmness in her tone, a collective tune of harmonious silver bells that lullabied him to a state of serenity. The sound eerily came closer, and closer.
And closer.
Closer.
Shit.
She’s here, isn’t she?
His eyelids slowly opened themselves, partially afraid of the ghost that had been lingering in his mind might make her appearance. There was no use in it, though, because she was already there, only meters away. Outside of the Diagnostics Team’s office, breathtaking in every possible way.
The sparkle in her hazel eyes brought light and ease into his heart. Her rosy cheeks glowed, enthusiastically responding to her conversation with Edenbrook’s own sunshine, Marchia. Each step led them closer to the glass entrance—and before he could anticipate it—they entered the room.
Tobias shifted his sight to the papers in front of him, hoping that Nyla did not saw him gaping like a goldfish.
“Okay, I have a short meeting in five minutes. You stay here, and we’ll continue after this,” the blonde announced, giving her friend a quick embrace.
Marchia’s heels clacked across the floor, and within seconds, there was only two of them. Left behind in a quiet, atrociously deafening silence. A silence that grew bigger, thicker, as moments passed by.
Maybe this was his chance to redeem himself in front of her.
“So, welcome to our humble abode.”
There was a slight pause before she could reply. Nyla stood in front of their sofa, arms clutching tightly above her chest, looking in his direction. The subtle white jumpsuit that embraced every dip and curve on her figure made it almost impossible to focus on anything else than her absolute beauty, magnificent in all of its glory.
“Not so humble, I would say, considering that it’s owned by Leland and he always try to show it off in every occasion he could get.”
“Hrm,” he lightly scoffed, agreeing with her keen observation. “I guess that’s true.”
An awkward silence had once again taken their conversation hostage.
Tobias rose to his feet, leaving the comfortable chair, and slowly walked closer—much to her surprise. He fought long and hard to formulate the exact right words, the perfect expression to express his feelings, in order to reset all of this mess.
He knew he had to take a leap.
“Look, Nyla, I think we got off on the wrong foot,” he murmured, locking eyes with her. “Sure, I wasn’t the best and I made some mistakes—”
“Whoa, whoa. Hold on. You weren’t being,” Nyla paused for a beat, then raised both of her hands, motioning air quotes as she continued with, “‘The best’?”
His dark brown brows pulled together at the questionable gesture.
For a room that was only filled with two people, the air felt entirely thick and suffocating. He found himself drowning, struggling to get a sentence out of his mouth.
“You abandoned your team, Carrick. You left them when they need you the most. Edenbrook wasn’t the only hospital that had been shook to the core with the whole shift and merger. MK got their hit too, or did you forgot about that?”
“I didn’t forget about that. But—”
“Not to mention your whole childish competition with Doctor Ramsey. And for what? It almost cost us a great doctor. A wonderful friend of mine.”
Tension soared as she mentioned the tragic incident that latched within these great halls. What happened was horrible, devastating—not a day goes by without Tobias feeling guilty and wishing he had done things differently back then.
“I’m sorry, I really am, but it wasn’t entirely my fault,” he sighed.
“Oh, please,” she rolled her eyes, lips curled up in disdain. “Just like how we failed to be in the top ten rankings wasn’t your fault too.”
Anger boiled inside his veins as he digested the true meaning of her words. He was no Ethan Ramsey, nor was he the Leonardo da Vinci of medicine—he was certain about that. But he had more than ten years of experience under his belt, dozens of unique and unthinkable cases, and even synthesized a goddamn cure for a lethal bio-toxin.
Surely he deserved some respect.
“You come in here like you’re some saint, Doctor Hassan. Apparently being a mediocre attending at Mayo Clinic does that to you, huh?” he snickered, harshness palpable in his voice.
Nyla snorted. “Watch where you’re going with this, Carrick.”
“Judge all you want, but you know nothing about me. You know nothing about the vicious medical industry. Nothing. You’re just some new kid on the block. Get some real experiences out there, and then we’ll talk, kiddo.”
Her orbs burned with fire he had never seen before in his life. She inched closer, tilting her head upwards, their breaths interwove in the small space between them. Emotions rumbled inside their chests, waiting to explode at any moment.
Biting her tongue, she replied, “Underestimate me again and we’ll see how well that goes for you.”
“Can’t wait,” Tobias whispered, hot air brushing the shell of her ear.
Fuming with vexation, the young doctor turned her body and headed straight for the door. A melody of heavy thump that accompanied every step she took became music to his ears—a clear sign that he had won this battle. Wearing a complacent expression, he relished in the victorious feeling.
If she wanted war, then she had come to the right place.
Because Tobias was certainly not giving up without a fight.
