Alastor's Deal (Thoughts, Theories, and some Predictions)

This won't answer the who, but aims to dig into the why, and plausibly narrow down the terms of the deal. Long post ahead!

Evidence

First off, the finale was incredible! But what Alastor's song showed was that his ""death"" against Adam wasn't entirely a surprise, but rather planned. Alastor's song revealed that he was looking for a loop in the contract, a way to slip past the deal without having to directly break it. He already made a deal with Charlie for a favour, but that might have been a safety net of sorts, something to guarantee himself a fighting chance if his "dying for the hotel" plan failed.

His surprise was at how fast it happened, not that he nearly died. Alastor craves control, he wears his smile for control, he makes deals for control, his magic highly influenced by controlling others too. His Modus Operandi is control, and he faced the battle it started with him being in control. He was outwitting Adam, he was faster, sneakier, even kept his hands behind his back while dodging just to show how little effort it took. But Adam's weapon sending an angelic beam of power? That wasn't in his plan, that wasn't in his control.

Control is something Alastor seeks over everything, which is why the deal is so brutal for him. The deal takes control from him, and his constant smiling and jokes and contained urges for violence is him trying to have some sort of freedom. It's highly implied that, unless it's for the hotel, he hasn't used his magic for his own reasons. He hasn't eaten or killed anyone unless it is for the hotel, and even that was implied to happen only during the Mimzy incident. He hasn't gotten to make any deals either, at least no real deals, no deals for souls.

I'm far from the first one to say that his deal is forcing him to help the hotel, but it's only now that we see the true extent. Alastor's entire personality, goals, and being has been changed against his will. He is now a tool for the hotel, the sword and shield, the magical provider, bringing them whatever they need to succeed despite the odds. Without him, it would just be Charlie, Vaggie, and Angel Dust. Sir Pentious wouldn't have joined, repairs would've taken far longer, the staff would've been just Charlie and Vaggie, et cetera. Even his deals are just him trying to gain something out of helping the hotel.

Alastor is bound to the hotel and his powers are also bound to the hotel. He cannot be selfish, he cannot do anything unless it's for the hotel no matter how desperately he wants to do otherwise. And yet it seems like his powers are limited too.

Alastor has immense levels of powers, so much that he was taking down a large portion of the angel army single handedly. Had Adam not been there, it's not outlandish to claim that Alastor could have taken down the angel army by himself. This is why he was feared. This is why "no one crosses the radio demon". If these are his powers when their limited, imagine just how powerful he truly is?

The last evidence I'll state before moving on is that Alastor didn't return back to the hotel until it was rebuilt, yet still didn't use his magic to cause chaos.

To simplify, on his end the deal forces him to use his immense power for the benefit of the hotel. He cannot actively do anything to bring harm to it, and he cannot use his magic unless it's for the good of the hotel. And he cannot escape from the deal if the hotel is destroyed, so the deal isn't about the physical hotel, but rather the concept of it. As long as the hazbin hotel exists in the heart of those involved, Alastor is bound to help.

Why?

Now the why? I believe that, whoever he made the deal with him was, they want the hotel to succeed. Not only that, I believe that by forcing Alastor to stay there and help while limiting his capability for violence, they are also trying to rehabilitate Alastor.

Wherever Alastor was before the hotel opened, it was somewhere where he couldn't interact with anyone. He was forced to be gone, only until the hotel opened. If the theories of Alastor making a deal with Lilith is true, then Lilith's character is important to consider. From what we know she is powerful and worked to bring dekonkind together. And that she too disappeared 7 years ago.

It's confirmed that Alastor destroyed many of the worse evils that existed in hell, the only ancient overlords that remain are civil and take part of overlord meetings. They are controlled, contained. There's more structure, and the only truly out of control, dangerous demon to remain would have been Alastor. It's possible that Lilith realized that she could use him to "clean up hell", waiting her time until Alastor was the last remaining biggest threat. That was when she pounced, seven years ago to capture him in a deal. We don't know why he would accept such a limiting deal, but I'd wager that it could have been for his life (either she was threatening him, or he nearly died and made a deal for his life).

Now that the deal is made, Alastor can't bring mindless chaos. If anything he is doing the most to help demons be saved from the extermination either through redemption or protection (we also didn't see him prior to the last, so perhaps he's also bound to protect during the extermination too?).

All while Alastor is handling and ensuring the success of the largest and most helpful demon-centered support system, Lilith is on vacation. Almost like Alastor is acting in her role, a mimicry of a spiritual successor of sorts. He's helping rally the demons together, helping shape Charlie into a better leader, helping prove demons can be redeemed. All while Alastor is either witness, participant, or manager of the strategies used to redeem sinners. Alastor is only a few steps away from taking part of the redemption program himself.

If Alastor's deal was with Lilith, then she's getting everything she could want. All the uncontrollable evils/overlords destroyed, a muzzle on (one of the most) powerful sadistic demons, someone to help guide her daughter, help demons redeem themselves, protection for her citizens from being killed or further tortured, and she finally gets a vacation. She'd be getting everything she could want, with the bonus of possibly rehabilitating Alastor in the process.

It's no wonder Alastor is so desperate to break out of the deal, to find a backdoor in the contract. This goes against everything he stands for. The stories of him broadcasting screams? Of killing overloards and owning soul after soul after soul? That is the real him, and it isn't exaggerated. If Alastor wasn't chained, he'd have the power and strength to destroy large swaths of hell himself. If he decided to do his own extermination with angelic weapons? He could kill as many demons as the angels do and more, because he wouldn't be limited by a single day period.

If his deal is with someone else? We simply don't have enough information yet to name them then. Whoever it is, they would have to believe in demonkind's potential for improvement, and possibly fear what Alastor is able to do.

Predictions

The last thing I want to touch upon is how Alastor might be able to escape the deal. First is what he tried, which is "dying" for the hotel. Or, more precisely, for everyone involved in the hotel, it was as if he died, so why would they still depend on him?

Next would be for the hotel to be destroyed, and considering that we don't know if Alastor was briefly free while he recovered or if he was just hiding out somewhere new because he couldn't stay in the hotel because it didn't exist, this one is still iffy. If part of his deal is staying at the hotel to actively protect it, the he was temporarily freed from that condition. Yet once it was rebuilt Alastor returned, proving that the destruction of the hotel building wouldn't free him.

The next possible way could be the death of the hazbin hotel spirit. If Alastor (or outside forces) were able to destroy Charlie's hope for the hotel just like Lucifer's dreams were crushed, perhaps Alastor would be freed. Considering how the finale went, it would take a lot for this to happen.

My final idea, and the one I predict will happen, is that Alastor outfits the person he made the deal with. He doesn't find a true "out", but rather will manipulate them into giving his power back. And this? I believe that Alastor's deal with Charlie was made for this reason.

If indeed the deal was with Lilith, and part of the deal seems to be ensuring Charlie's dreams come true, then Charlie is a delightful way for Alastor to manipulate the situation. How? Who knows, but I think that this will be a large part of the conflict of season 2.

So, you had been playing Cookie run for a little over 3 months and had been growing your collection of amazing 2D cookies. You would rant about troubles to them, thinking you just lost it after all, they're just fictional cookies after all.

What you didn't know ow then is that they were listening, watching, and growing to care about you. The cookies would be excited every time you opened the app on your phone, but one day their hearts broke.

"I have to choose, Genshin or Cookie Run?" You ask yourself.

The cookies already has a rivalry with Genshin as both apps took up space on your phone. The cookies were terrified that if you removed the app from your phone then they would never see you again.

Everything went dark, the cookies realized you made their choice. They thought about their last good memories with you, only for you to open the game the next day?

Yeah, they realized they were on a bigger screen and figures out while Genshin holds your phone they have your PC. This made them happy and each cookie you collected grew to care about you in someway and also having to keep it a secret that they can see and hear you.

This last until you got Shadow Milk Cookie. He noticed the border, and was dropping very clear hints that he could see and hear you but you never noticed. You thought this fourth wall breaking was part of the character, and that drove him mad. So, he used his cosmic powers to reach you.

After an afternoon of playing Cookie Run you turned off your computer and went for food. While you back was turned the screen turned navy blue with an upside Pure Vanilla Cookie symbol. Looking you think you forgot to turn off the computer, and then a hand popped out from the screen. You freaked out as Shadow Milk Cookie pulled himself out of the computer like Samara from the Ring.

Once he's out of the screen he tips his hat and bows to you. You scream and freak out which makes him laugh.

"W-who? How?!" You questioned nervously.

"Well, I'm Shadow Milk Cookie, but you already knew that!" He says.

He explains that every cookie could see and hear you. They figured out they were in a game and coped... in a variety of ways. You try to get him to leave as you're worried he'll cause issues in your world, but you can't make him leave. Now you have a human version of a 2D cookie sleeping on your couch.

Meanwhile in the Cookie Run world, Pure Vanilla is scared for you once he heats news of Shadow Milk Cookie bridging the gap to reach you and the evil cookies also want to take you to Dark Enchantress Cookie. Red Velvet Cookie is voluntold to seek you out. So, now ypu have three human cookies in your home, two of which are enemies. You also have no idea how to send them back other than make Shadow Milk Cookie go home.

You get used to them eventually, so much so that you accept their cuddles. Let's get into that.

You and Lyney have been dating for about a year now. It was like a dream come true. And as we all know, Lyney is (obviously) very flirty and a sweet talker. Though you may like it, it wasn't always a benefit for you.

Lyney's magic show at the opera house just ended. It was magical like always. You were talking to Lynette while waiting for Lyney - who had to do something at the back. You saw him coming back, but just as you were about to approach him, you stopped. Some girl approached him and started talking to him. You didn't mind.. at first. It was now near 10 minutes, and they are still talking.

You didn't mind....didn't....mind?

It seems Lyney performed a magic trick for her. You have just seen bits and parts of it, but it was enough for you to get an unsettling feeling in your stomach. He pulled a rainbow rose from behind her ear and smiled at her. Rainbow rose.... a flower that represents passion and romance. You knew Lyney wasn't dumb. He knew what that flower represents. Without much thought, you excused yourself from Lynette and went back home.

You were walking back home, lost in your thoughts. You loved Lyney, and you knew he loved you, but you told him multiple times-you don't feel comfortable with him being flirty with his audience. You wouldn't usually mind, but he even 'hangs out' with some of them. You know there are no romantic feelings present beetwen them, well, at least grom Lyney, but you can't help but get this weird ugly feeling once in a while. Ugh, what a joke... you though.... do my feelings mean nothing to him?

You were getting ready for your bed, but you realized you couldn't sleep. How annoying. You turned on the lights and decided to read a book. You were enjoying it until someone started knocking on your door. And then you heard his voice. No way.

"Y/N, hello? Are you okay? Where were you? I know you are in here, mon chérie." It was Lyney, of course

You weren't planning on opening the door. Oh he was inside now.

"Lyney? what the hell? What are you doing inside my house?" You can't say you didn't appreciate his..determination to see you.

"Hello, dear love! I couldn't help but notice you weren't there after my show. Where were you?"

"You know you can't hide from me, might as well tell me what's wrong, hm?" He tried to touch your face, but he knew something is wrong when you moved away.

"Dear, that is a part of being a magician. I need to keep my audience entertained."

"You don't need to do all that! What if we were on a date and some guy approached me, asking me to 'hang out' and I accepted?!" You were getting mad now, he really didn't get it did he?

"Maybe you aren't the one for me." He froze, realisation of what he said hit him. "W-wait, no I-"

"Okay." You said. You started to walk around the house, collecting gifts he gave you throughout your relationship. He was following you like a lost puppy apologizing and asking what were you doing.

"Here you go, I'm giving these bac-" As you were turning around to give him these back, you were met with his arms instead.

"Please, don't do this. I-I know I was in the wrong...I promise I will change. I love only you, I just wanted to keep them entertained, I understand now how horrible it was of me. I can't lose you...please...don't leave me.." You knew how hard it was for Lyney to trust people and open up, and you knew even more how much he really loved you. You felt his hands shaking, and you heard the way his voice was shaking slightly. It was rare for Lyney to express his feelings like this.

"I forgive you, but dont break your promise" You said as you hugged him back, and you felt him hug you just a little tighter.

"Oh, what did I do to deserve you?" He said as he put cheem at the top of your head.

The next morning, you woke up to an empty bed. You knew he had to go practice for his next show esrly in the morning so you didn't mind. You walked to the kitchen and found a bag of doughnuts with a note attached next to them.

Now you definitely forgive him.

i am very guilty of reading american psycho solely on the text/surface level stuff, like how i focus alot on characters and relationships like with McDermott and Price, when the whole point of those characters are to be part of this shallow and uncharacteristic culture, that they actually shouldn't even HAVE any charm to them at all, and obviously-- they are yuppies!! they are racists, misogynists, homophobes and its shown multiple times how they tease and humiliate homeless people.

so obviously i dont "like" these characters in the same way i like.. idk vash the stampede or whoever, because actually they can all go fuck fheirselves!! Im actively MISSING the POINT by focusing or being entertained by the people around Bateman since they are supposed to faceless interchangeable characters that dont matter

but still, i cant help but be entertained by all of their social interactions and i dont know WHY 😭 even the scenes that are meant to showcase how boring shallow and materialistic they are fails to bore me and im instead gigglimg at everything

I dont know.. again, i dont have that media literacy to read the subtext , (i mean OBVIOUSLY i can figure out the story being the critique of the overconsumption and materialism of yuppie culture and bateman being a result of it ) and it does sorta guilt me to be giggling over an interaction or a relationship between characters especially since everyone disregards these characyers as just faceless nothingness in batemans life, like no im not supposed to read the dialogue so literally they are meant to be filler empty conversations that mean nothing

But yeah i still love reading about these characters, idk what my main takeaway is, i guess tldr: i understand the point of these characters, i dont condone any of them actually but i still enjoy them

Okay, so first off, it's been shown that Rock, Jazz's brother, is a playboy. He always has multiple women on the go and I think that that, combined with the fractured and unhappy relationship between the two brothers, has really influenced some parts of Jazz's sexuality. I do see Jazz as being someone who is very, very sexually monogamous. He cannot have sex with more than one person. Polyamory isn't something he says he'll judge and if it works for someone else, all the more power to them, but he doesn't get it at all. He would never be someone who could cheat sexually on someone and it would really bother him if someone was sleeping with someone other than him while being with him sexually. Because of that, friends with benefits or hook-ups aren't things he'll really seek out or be okay with, unless the friends with benefits agrees to be monogamous sexually only to him.

Okay, so going along with something you mentioned up above…Jazz does like to think he's a pretty smooth talker. He likes to think he's suave and seductive when he wants to be and he's definitely going to try to initiate sex by using pick-up lines that he thinks are so great and smooth but sometimes can be really corny and cheesy and unintentionally funny. Please don't laugh at him though when he says them because it really will hurt his sexual confidence.

Now, I do think that Rock also impacted Jazz's sexual leanings a little bit more than just disliking multiple sexual partners. The bullying he endured at the hands of Rock means that Jazz is surprisingly sensitive to his sexual partner's opinion of him. Any comments that down-talk him or make him feel less than will really impact him and actually will make him lose any erection he has or any desire he has to initiate sex. Degradation, giving or receiving, is a strict no-go while in a sexual relationship with Jazz. He loves receiving body worship though and has a praise kink. god sorry i cant stop talking ab ooc behind the scene stuff but this entire timeline breaks my heart because it comes from junos insecurity about his hubris. sure he tried his best to pamper jury in any way HE felt like he deserved, but if theres one thing junos always internalized wnd never worked on, its rhe fact that he feels an intense shame and guilt about his hubris.i dont even know who follows me and who remembers juno in his entirity but he is a characyer driven completely by hubris and personal desire despite being very concious of others needs and despite being a compassionate person, his hubris is a stronger force,ans constantly got in the way. he NEEDED to make sure jury wouldn't develop the same hedonistic tendendies and therefor kept him under his thumb the entire time. jury was taught to give up anything that is his to others, but because of that, hes dependant on others to fill his needs and wants, and people can't do that for him. causing him to lash out

Tbh I feel like Zelda in Totk's story is such a non-character. Like she doesn't feel like a pivotal characyer, except the sword thing, bc nothing she does feels substantial? She's just... there. Nothing would have changed if she wasn't there bc nothing she says or does changes snyobe's thoughts.

I feel like I kind of agree and disagree at the same time. For me, there are some aspects I like in concept but I feel could have been executed better. Her presence in the past felt like a missed opportunity because, as you mentioned, she just sort of stands there and bears witness to pivotal events without being able to have a significant impact on them. Personally, I would have loved to see Zelda use her knowledge of present events to help Rauru and Sonia corner Ganondorf and severely damage him, which would in turn weaken him in the present enough for Link to finish him off. I know somewhere that it mentions that her powers had diminished or outright disappeared post-BotW, but it would have been cool for her to maybe use the Secret Stone along with her inherent ability to perhaps help her rekindle and magnify that power when facing Ganondorf and use that to weaken him before Rauru places his seal on him, knowing full well that Link will destroy him in the future. Maybe in this scenario she would not have to resort to draconification (or maybe she would have to, just to return the sword to Link in a repaired state). Then, to me, her draconification would have felt more imapctful for me. However, I did love learning about Zelda in the present through the sidequests, from how she had pretty much taken over Link's house in Hateno, building her study in the well behind the house, becoming a schoolteacher, travelling Hyrule with Link beside her to help her people and learn about her country, her research on the Dondons etc. The fact that Ganondorf had been able to deceive people with puppet Zelda tells me that she was very involved with all communities. It's funny because for me, the emotional impact of her draconification was felt after learning of how well her life had been going in the present, only to be launched into the past for the sole purpose of sacrificing her life and her personhood for Hyrule's sake. Just, how unfair is this land and rules that govern it that would force this girl to lose people she loves over and over again, to continuously fight back against allowing her to pursue her true interests in the name of becoming a sacrificial maiden. You can say that I feel angry on her behalf. So, at the end, I think the problem is once again TotK's decision to tell its story in such a passive way. It seems like none of the characters are actively involved in the story apart from Ganondorf and Link; the rest you have to just learn through memories and past events. However, both BotW/TotK suffer from giving Zelda an active part in the story that is currently occurring. Personally I felt like TotK Zelda had it in her to give Ganondorf the beat down of history, but alas. I will see what the next game brings.

This "totally-not-a-dating-sim" has truly captured my heart from the moment I learned of this game. I'm a DnD girlie, a forever DM, and an anxious mess on a good day, so this is perfect.

I first fell for this game because of Karlach. I was scrolling on tiktok and I started getting clips of the scene when you confess you love Karlach and I was like "I would die for her"

I got obsessed with this game because of Astarion. I love his character. I want to give him a hug. So he's perfect. I talk about him a lot.

And I keep on falling for this game with every hour I spend on it. You can feel that a lot of love has been put into this game. It's so masterfully crafted, each storyline is unique, the world feels so real, so open, all the characters you meet are amazing and I'm just bdnssbsnsm I can and will wax poetry about different characyers given the chance

I have come to care about my Tav also. I have a lore for her and I think about her from time to time. She's one of my favourite OCs ever.

This game brings me so much happiness you have no idea. Worth every penny. Even with the massive size it's perfect. (The downloading took so long you have no idea) And the soundtrack!!!! Created by literal GODS, like the kind of crack they've put into it, amazing.

You'll only hear praises from me when it comes to this game, I love it.

The game mechanics are good as well. The combat is fun, easy to understand and doable. The looting system is fun, there are so many secrets and things to discover

Still sad that Shadowheart left the party. It was the toughest choise ever. And I dissapointed Halsin, so I feel like the biggest fraud ever. But next playthrough, I'll fix my mistakes.

The multiplayer is good as well, tried it out. Love that you can turn cutscenes private. Very fun (can you feel me getting more tired? Bc I am, it's way past my bedtime, I've had two 12-hour shifts at work in a row, and habe been on this bus for 50 minutes, with 1,1 hour to go)

Can I talk about Gale? He is such a cutiepie like who gave him the rights? And I just want to hug him. He deserves a big hug. And some nice boots to snack on.
