Random weird question: How do people interact online now outside of games and social media?

That I know of, chat rooms are pretty much non-existent now. Is it all just Discord now? I've had people say I'm welcome to join their servers, but I'll admit that I feel intimidated because I've only ever used it once back in 2018(?). I have no clue how it actually works. It almost feels like I'm invited to a party where everyone already knows one another, but I keep saying no because I know I'm just gonna be the awkward person hiding in the corner while holding an empty cup because I'm too afraid to move from my safe spot. At least here on Tumblr it's more like being on the playground, and I just happened to stumble across my mutuals because we're all playing in the same sandbox.

There’s something off about Bruce.

Dick’s eye is trained for detail; He has to calculate every leap, every step, every breath, every count. He’s a showman. Everything is routine, and routine is everything.

Injury isn’t unusual, especially for his father .He out stubborns Tim in resisting medical examinations, after all.

For Bruce, secrets are protection. He lied about every injury he had when Dick was Robin, suffering in silent agony as the pain grew and grew, a tradition he carries on from Jason to Damian.

If Bruce screams, it’s bad.

“God fucking dammit, how the fuck does he do this? Who the fuck breaks their femur AND just carries on? Jesus FUCKING Christ.”

Bruce curses under his breath, profanity hushed. Dick’s veins freeze, blood turning to stone. He guesses his shock is obvious because Jason mirrors it to perfection.

One; Bruce doesn’t curse.

Two; He definitely doesn’t curse in a jersey accent.

The unease is pungent. Alfred practically tastes it, vitriolic as anything. His chest is taut, pulse slow, “Sir,” it’s cautious, “Shall I prepare the supplies?”

‘Bruce’ waves his hand, voice gruffer, lower, smokey, “Yeah, thanks, babe,”

Alfred blinks. And whoever pretends to be Bruce, blinks back, almost like a deer being cornered by an English hound, smile a bit boyish and unsure.

“…Thomas?”

“… Okay, you’re gonna laugh—“

Dick is reeling, because apparently:

His dead grandparents have been possessing his father throughout the years and they, wards to the best detective in the world, never caught on.

“Look, I get you’re pissed, BUT,” It’s so unbelievably weird watching Bruce be so expressive;

His hands move energetically, like they have their own voices, and his rain soft voice catches on fire when his father talks through him,

“This IS 50% MY body, technically.“

“Thomas, dear, that is not how that works. Come now, you’re scaring our grandchildren.”

And Jason’s voice is uncharacteristically soft when he speaks, more posh, more elegant . That is not his brother.

Alfred passes out, to no one’s surprise.

"character x cannot handle spice" is a pretty common gag, but what makes the takoyaki scene truly hilarious is the fact that akechi:

goes out of his way to approach a group of people he’s been publicly shitting on for months

provides the flimsiest excuse for why he's interrupting their hangout (checking out the venue? sure, if by "venue" you mean "rival")

proceeds to monologue at them without acknowledging their responses in any capacity

not only helps himself to their food without asking but actively ignores their protests

I’ve been thinking about them (🙄) and the fact that I feel like dan is much more socially *perceptive* but phil a bit more socially *capable* because he seems to be more easy going and can just rawdog it on whimsy whilst dan perceives too much to be at ease (but when he is, probably a great friend)? Idk their social dynamic is so interesting to me cause as a dan someone like phil would make me feel soooo safe socially

i think phil's quite socially perceptive as well though, he just doesn't overthink those things as much as dan does. it seems like phil's more at ease with acquaintances and friends (ones they aren't super close to i mean) and can carry a dinner conversation like nobody's business, but he gets anxious over phonecalls (mood) and talking to complete strangers. that waiter on reddit who said dan ordered for the both of them when they were at her work makes so much sense to me lmao, i would bet he does that often. not that dan loves talking to strangers either, but if phil hates it ofc dan's gonna step up. dan says he's good in crisis situations because he just locks in and focuses on what needs to be done which helps him stay calm and efficient, and i think that kind of applies to interactions with strangers as well, whereas if it's people he knows and has to see again he's like oh god if i say something wrong or awkward it's so over

there's also dan's desperate need for everyone to like him, i don't think phil's all that bothered lmao. phil's more of a 'if you don't like me that's your loss' type of person, cause like he's so nice the chances are if someone doesn't like him it probably isn't his fault 😭 and he has no interest in keeping relationships with people if they don't really vibe with him

for all that bingqiu and moshang are wrapped up in each other's business, I find it funny that shen qingqiu and mobei-jun have NO relationship. cumplane have their whole cosmically entwined nonsense, bingqiu and moshang are just differently flavored cumplane, and sqh and binghe have some kind of dynamic in the "author and his protagonist" sense, but sqq and mbj never once speak to each other. I just skimmed mobei-jun's appearances in the main three volumes and I think the only thing sqq says to him is "a demon?" when he first appears and mobei-jun just fucking ignores him. they exist in the same scene several times, but never interact. they've both got their attachments to binghe and weird obsession with sqh, but they have absolutely no relationship to each other. I think if you put just the two of them in a room together, they would sit there in silence until sqq contemplates whether killing himself would end the awkwardness

Maybe it's just me but I'm getting increasingly tired of the "nobody owes you anything" attitude online and in person. Like yeah, nobody owes you time or attention if you're being a dick. Nobody owes your forgiveness if you fuck up and that's a fact of life. But it feels more and more like people use it as an excuse to be rude cunts because "i don't owe anyone politeness" and i feel like it's become a major contributing factor into why communication has gotten worse across the board. If someone is coming out the gate being an asshole, people are going to respond in kind.
