okay, but imagine tamara coming out to lucy as bi or pan, and being really afraid to do so because the one other time she was open and honest about who she is, resulted in her getting a black eye, and spending weeks emotionally and mentally depressed after being yelled at and degraded by her brother/uncle/cousin/whomever; and lucy just pulls her into the biggest bear hug ever. 💗

Random Deer Little Doe AU Stuff
Lilith: This is my husband, Lucifer Lucifer: And this is my wife Lilith Both: And this is our husband Alastor! *Camera pans out to an annoyed but flustered looking Alastor* Alastor: For the last time your majesties, I am not your husband. *Alastor super messily ripping some angels limb then drinking their blood like a wild animal* Lilith + Lucifer: Oh wow, I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me Lilith: Me and Luci have been trying to ask this demon out Lucifer: We've been dropping them the most obvious hints for dozens of years now. No response. Alastor: They just sound stupid. Lilith: But they’re not. They’re really smart actually. Just... dense. Alastor: Maybe you two need to be more obvious? Perhaps, oh I don’t know… maybe say something like “Hey! I love you!” Lucifer: I guess you’re right. Hey Alastor, Me and Lilith both love you. Alastor: See! Just say that! Lucifer: (Un)Holy fucking shit. Alastor: If that flies over their head then, sorry your highnesses, but they are too dumb for you both. Lilith: Alastor. Luci and Lilith, trying to flirt: So, you come around here often? Alastor, confused: I mean, you told me to stay and work here, in your home, so yes. Lucifer: If I say I love you, will you say it back to me dear? Lilith: Of course, Luci. Lucifer: I love you. Lilith: It back. *Later* Alastor: Why is Lucifer crying face-down on the floor while cuddling his rubberducks? Alastor: Why is everyone so obsessed with top or bottom? Honestly, I’d just be excited to have a bunk bed. Lilith: Lilith: I'm going to tell him. Lucifer: Please don't. Lilith: I really like Eminem. Lucifer: I prefer skittles. Alastor: She's talking about the rapper. Lucifer: Why would they eat the wrapper? Kid Charlie: I wish you were my official parent Al. Alastor: I'm truly honored to hear that, princess. But unfortunately that request seems impossible. Kid Charlie: Oh! You should marry my mom and dad so that you can officially be my other parent! Alastor: That's a splendid ide- wait what.
Lucifer: Here we are at the toy store my little star! Now go and pick a present!! *Two hours later* Lucifer: Well? Has anything caught your eye yet char-char? Kid Charlie: Dad!! I want that one. *points* Lucifer: Kid Charlie: Lucifer: For the last time, you can't pick Alastor.

Trailer park Steve AU part 12 part 1 | part 11 | ao3
ha haaaa, i lied about waiting until monday. cw: angst, gory imagery, implied prescription drug abuse
In his dream it’s raining pills.
Steve is crying in his car as rainbow pellets rain from the sky, and then he’s pounding on the Munson’s door while the pills burst into fine powder against his hair, his skin, his clothes. Eddie doesn’t come to the door but suddenly he’s there, teleported outside of it, apologizing right away when Steve demands to know what’s wrong.
“I don’t understand what happened.”
A flash of eyes, of lips; his face doesn’t fully form, but he sweeps one of those perusing looks all over Steve, sees his frayed edges and invites him in to stitch them up.
They talk and laugh for hours — dream logic where the seconds are minutes are years — letting their knees knock together, letting their pinky fingers brush. All the while little pills plink plink against the siding, pharmaceutical hail storm, and suddenly it's morning; Steve has drifted off; Steve has never slept so well. There’s a throw blanket made of cat fur and the smell of coffee and scrambled eggs, Wayne humming sleepily to himself at the stove, waving a spatula in greeting when he spots Steve getting up.
“Mornin'!” he grins. “Ed’s still sleepin’, but feel free to stick around.”
Outside the rain comes harder, heavy knocks against the roof, and when Steve peers into the pan he sees that Wayne’s frying up dead birds. "Just about ready."
He spears a fork into a wing. The feathers start to smoke. “You take your coffee black?”
“Ma, you gotta get a job.”
“Hmm?”
She’s watching I Love Lucy.
Steve's head is in his hands.
His elbows are going numb where they’re propped on the breakfast table, and his temples throb, a steady band of pressure like a giant's palm around the sides and back of his skull, pulsing down his aching neck. He’s been staring at next month’s budget for so long it looks like hyro…hiero—?
Whatever. Egyptian shit.
He can’t tell if he’s shit at math or if the math just doesn’t work, but either way it’s not working, and neither is his fucking mom, and he finds himself thinking about this one time in middle school when they took a field trip to a factory with a big hydraulic press. Got to tour the control room; got to pick which fruits to crush.
He remembers the watermelon most vividly of all: the way the rind groaned under the machine’s steady weight, splintering slivers snaked over striped flesh; slowly, slowly, then suddenly, boom!!
Watermelon guts on the concrete floor.
(That was also the first time he got to touch a girl's butt; all the girl's squealed and jumped back from the explosion, and one of them backed herself right into his hand. It was Liz Collins, and it was one hundred percent an accident, because, like, gross, Liz Collins, but still.
Memorable day for two reasons.
God, he needs a nap.)
“A job, ma,” he sighs, a little louder this time. “I can... I don’t know, I can maybe ask around, see if anybody’s hiring? Or- talk to Claudia. Or Karen,” he snaps his fingers by his ear, “or Joyce! She might— yeah. Yeah, she might be able to call and put in a good word at Melvalds...”
She might also be busy being far the fuck away from here. He taps his pencil against his cheek as envy crashes over him. He should be in California. Should spend his time hitting on beach babes and surfing sunny waves instead of drowning in debt and wondering why he’s on a first-name basis with so many random moms.
His mom still hasn’t acknowledged a single word he's said. "Hello? Ma? What d'you think?"
She turns to look at him finally. Gives him a dreamy, lovely smile.
She always was so pretty. “…I’m sorry; what were you saying?”
Steve flushes his mom’s pills.

Girl(friends)
Tumblr media
Lauren Hemp x Aussie! Reader
Warnings: fluff, coarse language, awkward, OG Man City
A/N — I'm in a Hempo phase rn so be prepared. Short one today x
______________________
You dreaded the days when you weren't playing football.
It was the one thing you couldn't live without, your adoration for the sport was larger and more demeaning than anything else. The solidarity, solace, and peace you found in running up down the wing, the ball at your feet. The feeling of utter elation when the ball went into the goal, past a defender, through the goalkeeper's reach. The celebrations, the assists, and everything else in between.
You could talk forever about football.
Except on Media Days.
You hated the unknown of it. You had managed to excuse yourself beforehand from most of these shoots since you weren't among the best-known players of the club — save that for Keira, Gee, and Lucy. But on the rare occasion that you were chosen for the quick photoshoot or challenge with one or more of the girls, you remained relatively quiet, speaking when you must and laughing when you should. You had no trouble with any of the girls, it was just in front of the public's view, and you were squirmish.
You pulled yourself out of bed after hitting snooze thrice, hearing Alanna ramp on downstairs. You made sure to stay in bed for another ten minutes. You changed into your team's tracksuit and a random top, making your way downstairs, slouching into one of the stools by the kitchen counter.
"Oh, wow." Alanna chuckled, holding out a coffee towards you. "You look delighted. Excited for today, are we?"
You simply offered her a grimace, taking a large sip of your coffee, hoping the taste would clear your evident distaste for the day ahead.
Alanna was a social butterfly. She was used to feeding into the Media's hand whenever they came becking. Most of the City girls were the same, it was a very jovial team that trusted one another well enough to have fun in the security of their job.
All the girls had arrived by the time Alanna and you had trampled in, wearing matching blue kits. Hayley was laughing with Georgia in front of a couple of cameras, a ball at their feet as they struggled to keep the ball off the floor. Gee tried to kick at the Aussie's feet, by didn't catch the ball in time to get the point. Raso threw her hands up in triumph, the cameras panning to Gee rolling around on the floor.
On the other side of the indoor training field were Lucy and Keira, standing around a giant-sized game of Janga, talking to the PR Managers behind the camera as they posed questions to the two of them as they played. Alex, Lauren and Chloe were sitting by a desk, on their phones as they waited for their turn to be called up.
The gush of blood that rushed to your cheeks when Lauren smiled towards you sent Alex and Chloe into a fit of giggles. The duo were always around to tease the two of you with your beyond-obvious, mutual pining. You wouldn't call it embarrassing, but there were certainly times when one of you would go out of your way to gain the other’s attention.
When you first met, Lauren tried to give you a tour of the facilities, but she ended up getting both of you lost. She apologised over and over profusely, and she dreaded the awful, first impression she had left you with.
You and Alanna sat beside them, greeting them with conversation before falling into a satisfied silence. Your next game was the Manchester Derby against United. The team had been training non-stop this past week, today is the first day without strenuous drills and exercises. Nevertheless, it was still a day at work, and to be honest, you'd rather be sweating ten times over than talking to a camera.
The thought of doing a video alone daunted you as you watched Hayley and Gee from afar. On a regular day, Hayley would be your Media Partner; the two of you always did videos with one another. On the odd day that you didn't, it'd be Alanna. If not Alanna, it was with a group of you. Now that you thought about it, the two Aussie girls were the only ones you had done a video with one-on-one. The feeling of someone different was tormenting. As the five of you sat silent on your phones, you hoped and prayed all of you would be doing a video together.
While you kept to yourself for the most part, save for the Aussie girls, you would go out of your way to make sure Lauren was your partner in drills. You’d try your hardest when she was watching, and vice versa. The blonde would hit the ball as hard as she could into the back of the net, and you’d be that landed with the assist. In games, you had been quickly dubbed as a duo due to the chemistry you seemed to have in the game. Fans would swarm at any interaction you’d have with her.
But to their dismay — and apparently most of your teammates — you and Lauren had never been in a video together.
But, to your surprise, you spoke too soon.
"Alright, Ladies, are you ready?" One of the PR girls came up with an iPad, scrolling through whatever it was she was looking for, and glancing up. You noticed Lauren straightening up beside you, holding her arms over her chest, waiting for the woman to finish her sentence.
You found yourself catching sight of the slight furrow in the girl's eyebrows; the concern written all over her face. You knew she was worried, and you supposed you were too. "We've got Greenwood, Kelly, and Kennedy over there. You've got interviews."
You tried not to look too relieved at the news, hiding the smile in response to the girl's identical groans. No one liked Interviews. They were serious, solemn, and no fun whatsoever. It was always boring questions about your job as a Midfielder, or how you maintained a balanced life outside of football. It wasn't the fans' favourite video to watch at all, but it was more for the professional side of it than the Media. Everyone had to do it. You were just glad that today it wasn't you.
"Hempo and Y/l/n, we've got an auto-complete interview."
"That's not fair, those are so much better," Alanna whined at that, throwing her head back like a toddler. "Hempo, surely we swap."
Lauren pursed her lips together, cheeks going a bit red at all the eyes on her. Alex and Chloe waited for her response, a smirk aligned on each of their faces.
"Nah, leave her Lani." Alex sounded, prodding the blonde with her elbow.
Lauren's cheeks went a deeper red when Chloe laughed. "Hempo's been wanting to do this for ages."
"Shut up, Kelly." Lauren snapped in a mutter, turning away to march off towards the direction of the lone white background and chairs. You turned to see the two Brits giggling to themselves, dragging Alanna over to the back doors.
"Have fun, Y/n/n."
"Hope you're as excited as Hempo!"
You shrugged them off, sauntering over to the set-up. Lauren was already sitting on a stool, playing with the rings on her fingers, wearing a prominent scowl.
"Are you alright?" You asked, sitting on the spare chair, tensing when you accidentally knocked your knee with hers.
Her pale cheeks disappeared, replaced with the blush you saw from before. "Yes, they're just annoying. Very annoying."
"Having a laugh, I 'spose." You reasoned, though the blonde didn't come off as too convinced. "But you're right, they're silly."
The blonde simply hummed in response, the both of you listening to the man behind the camera.
"Okay, guys, this is really straightforward." He said, readjusting the camera as he spoke. "You just got to introduce yourselves before you start, then we'll give you a board full of questions and you've just got to answer them. All good?"
Everyone watched the two of you nod. No one could deny the definitive awkwardness between the two of you, and the obvious hesitance toward what you were about to do. It was safe to say neither of you was fit to talk on and on, especially under the scrutiny of viewers.
You didn't know the cameras were already recording, choosing to fiddle with your hands as you waited. You could tell by the definitive look on Hempo's face that she was just as reluctant as you were. The blonde glanced at you from the corner of her eye, shuffling in her chair before she muttered towards you.
"You have an eyelash."
You spun to face her. "What?"
Lauren's face reddened, her beady brown eyes widening at your sudden response.
Without thinking, she pulled her hand out from her pocket, reaching to pinch something off your face. She was gentle when pulling away, holding her finger up to reveal the eyelash she had picked. She watched as you blew it off, giggling meekly at the benevolent interaction.
"You ready?" One of the people asked behind the camera, making the two of you leave your intimate bubble. "When you're ready."
Lauren nodded towards you. "You can start."
You sighed, trying to hide the smile that crammed your lips. "Hello, my name is Y/N, and this is Lauren Hemp," You waited for the blonde to finish your sentence, but when you were met with silence, you took one look at her stupefaction and continued. "And today we're going to be doing a... what is it?"
Lauren lifted up one of the boards that balanced against the end of her chair. She picked it up, surveying it, reading out the bulk letters at the top. "An auto-complete interview."
"Right. That's what we're doing."
The two of you left the introduction at that, an empty silence vacating the set.
Thankfully, a voice sounded from behind the camera. "Who's starting?"
Lauren shrugged, filling the ungainly silence. "I can."
You both stared at the board in between you. "I think you peel them off." You spoke, motioning at the tape that covered half the sentences. Lauren took your advice, skinning the first sticker to reveal the question.
"Who is Lauren Hemp's team?" You read out, making both of you giggle. "Oo, that's a good question."
"I play for Manchester City." Lauren played with the tape in her hand as answered. "But I play for England in the National Team."
She peeled off the second one, waiting for you to read it. "Who is Lauren Hemp's favourite teammates?" You spoke, rubbing your head in deceitful confusion.
Lauren laughed, glimpsing at you with a beaming smile. "We haven't known each other for long."
"Yes, but I'm very charismatic." You shook your head, sighing. "But go on, who is it?"
"Well," She thought to herself for a second. "I'm close with all the girls but... I'd have to say Esme, of course. She's my best friend."
"No brainer, clearly." You made a point to roll your eyes, huffing about, but it was plain to see that you were only joking. "Alright, who is Lauren Hemp's... boyfriend?"
There was a bit of an awkward interlude, leaving everyone looking around the pitch. Lauren, however, fell into a cynical fit of laughter, with you following shortly after.
"No boyfriends for me."
You didn't know why, but your stomach recoiled at the thought of Lauren with someone. It was a great relief to hear that she wasn't. "None at all?" You couldn't help but ask.
Lauren was quick to reply. "No, no boys... or girls at all."
"Right." You replied, placing the board onto the floor, hoping no one was noticing the pink across your cheeks. "Who's next?"
The next board was displayed between the two of you like before, except this time, your name was typed across it. Lauren shuffled closer to you, pinning the board to her side. “Go on then.”
You peeled the first question off. “Who is Y/N Y/L/N’s favourite team?”
Lauren looked at you, laughing when you were silent. “Well, I'm not answering, you are.”
“Yeah, well, hold on, I'm thinking.” You scoffed, pretending to whack the girl playfully with your board. She swatted you away, grabbing the board from where it rested on your thigh and smiled.
“I'm gonna say the Matildas because why else,” You could hear the Blonde’s indistinguishable disapproval, clicking her tongue. You’d later find out when watching the clip that she rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest affectionately. “But yeah, my childhood club was Sydney FC, so I’ll stick with my roots.”
“But she plays for City,” Lauren added, both of you giggling at your ambiguity. You never liked these types of questions, especially when the media took them out of context. You love City with all your heart, but it was easy for people to twist things and make it out that you didn't mean what you said.
“But I play for City, yes, and I love it.” You repeated, proceeding in ripping off each of the stickers as the game went on.
Lauren was patient when it wasn’t her go, adding in her opinion and a subtle joke every so often, basking in your immediate reaction each time. You bounced off one another like wildfire, seemingly knowing what the other was going to say before it was said. You were intellectual in what you shared, favourite meals, celebrity crushes, words of advice — pretty much anything the questions asked. Without knowing, you and Lauren discovered more and more about each other without directly asking. Your relationship blossomed, even with the presence of the cameras, into something tangible, free, and warm.
When it got to the end, you were still holding the board, fiddling with its edges as Lauren wrapped up the last of her questions. Somehow, you felt a little upset that the video was coming to an end. You wanted these questions to keep on coming. You would spend hours listening to the girl talk about what she loved and who she was. But by the time the last question lingered, you feel into comfortable silence.
Ever so slowly, Lauren inched her hand closer to the board you were holding, brushing her pinky and ring finger across your thigh as she did so. You pretended to conceal your flustered state by smiling, giving her the board to chuck away.
You didn't know how you coped when you felt Lauren keep her hand on your thigh.
“Well, that's the end of the video,” She finished, looking towards the camera, then to you.
You smiled back at her. “We hope you enjoyed and if you what to see more—”
“Well there's no more videos of us.”
“But go check the channel anyway.”
“Bye!”

Lucifer Morningstar x Married Y/n morning routine🪭🤍
Tumblr media
I only made this cause I didn’t see much to suffice my delulusions enough with Luci pookie, to keep scrolling and keep on reading so here I am making kind of a [SMUT/SUGGESTIVE] scenario + soft too ykyk cause he’s literally such a sweetheart.
~~~~~<<<<>>>>>~~~~~~~~
As per usual waking up in the bedroom chambers with your husband Lucifer next to you while holding onto your waist. Rubbing your eyes you tried moving his arms off of you gently to get change before feeling a slight tug on the edge of your nightgown-
“Honey, stay for a little while…we have allll the time to stay in bed..” - Lucifer says in a drowsy manner while keeping his slim fingers onto your hips pulling you a little back to his chest once more.
“I ought to get up already there’s stuff I have to do mi amor..~” - You said while running your hand through his blonde hair before sliding down to his cheek caressing it, rather adorable while he had such a sleepy face eyes blinking slowly each.
Lucifer sighed before sitting up “Be a dear for me and stay in that nightgown for me then pretty please, you look ravishing in it. So I’d be delighted if you stayed in it for the rest hm”
[As the time passes by - while you stayed in the attire he was pleased while staying close to you, he was clingy even when your cooking breakfast was a bit of a distraction..]
“Heavens you always look so stunning..” - Lucifer says giving you showers of sweet talks near your ear cooing while you cooked holding a pan with eggs in it.
Before then his hand was on your thigh before lifting the rim of your nightgown a bit to caress your rear a bit made you shiver a little from the sudden action as he put his head in the crook of your neck softly licking a little..
“Lucifer it’s quite a little early for this, no~..? Didn’t you had enough last night” - you said while trying to concentrate into making breakfast
“Nonsense, the fun doesn’t have to end from last night. We could keep continuing from that night activity if you’d like? — yknow”
. . . “Where’d I plowed yah real hard to the point you passed out.” - Lucifer says nonchalantly and calmly to you twirling the edges of your hair while waiting for your response.
You flushed a bit crimson red on your cheeks visibly before sighing, his offer was tempting since he was quite good under the sheets no denying that. Before then you accepted either way before turning off the stove.
~~~~~<<<<<>>>>>~~~~~~~
Lucifer had you bend over a bit letting you adjust and hold onto the kitchen counter before you could hear the rustling of his pants dropping a bit.
“Sweetie, I’m going to need you to calm your nerves a little mkay..” he said while holding your hips but waiting for you to give him the go before caressing your hips and giving you a small soft kiss onto the cheek for comfort
“Don’t worry just like last time relax it won’t hurt just breathe in and out a little.” - Lucifer continues to sweet talk you whispering in your ear while slowly putting his ‘trunk’ into your entrance trying to make it less painful when entering.
Before then he gave a slow pace moving his hips back n forth while holding onto you and sliding his hands to your hips to the rear once more squeezing a little while watching you whimper and hold onto the counter.
While waiting for you to adjust for a couple of minutes he’d start going a little more hard and fast having you against the counter while pulling it in and out. Still trying to make you comfortable while caressing you as he holds onto your front stomach feeling the bump.
“Atta girl, I love being inside of you…you got this..”
-Lucifer would keep on banging you against the kitchen counter before making you climax.
Before you’d thought he’d pull out in the first round. He’d just stay in for a little while before getting the urge for another…the morning would be just spent for a couple more rounds before you could even eat some breakfast which got cold already.

You Do It For Her
Capital Don’t Cry (Part Two)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Sejanus is tasked with mentoring the District Two female tribute, but plot twist :0 they're childhood besties, but it’s part two (the games era)
Pairing: Sejanus Plinth x Fem!District Two!Reader Platonic!Lucy Gray Baird x Reader
Requested: very
Word count: 4.5k
Warnings: it’s the games so murder and shit, Jessup rabies era :/, Angst baby, reader and Lucy gray are besties, I’m such a Lucy Gray girly so she’s super prevalent in this fic, murder, not a whole lot of Sejanus in this, mostly in readers pov with two small pov changes
a/n: I’m so glad so many of you loved the first part, I’m so happy you’ve all been enjoying it, honestly it makes me so happy (also thanks so much for almost 1k on part one), I’ve had to break it into three parts so I’m sorry for making you all wait longer. Comment if you want to be added to the taglist (I also somehow wrote the second half of the entire fic listening to the Wonka soundtrack and it helped but was very worrying)
Part 1 / Part 3
Tumblr media
The harsh plastic seat seemed to dig into Sejanus, leaving an uncomfortable impression against his restless form. His blazer, adorned with the emblem of the Capitol, clung to him, its material feeling constricting, almost suffocating. Sleep had eluded him since that haunting moment when he last saw (Y/n), and thoughts of her, intertwined with concerns for Marcus, haunted his every waking hour.
In the buzzing atmosphere of the mentor's area, Lucky Flickerman's enthusiastic attempts to coax smiles out of the mentors for the flashing cameras felt more like an intrusion. The relentless flashes of light assaulted Sejanus's sensitive eyes, forcing him to squint against the intrusive brightness. The whole spectacle seemed detached from the somber reality he was living.
As Coriolanus approached and took the seat beside him, a familiar face in the sea of unfamiliarity, Sejanus couldn't help but find a fragment of solace. The camaraderie, however, did little to dispel the heavy cloud of uncertainty and anxiety that hung over him. Each mentor's forced smile, every attempt to portray an air of confidence, serving to convince everyone that they were certain that their tribute was going to win.
And so, as the photographers continued to capture the glossy facade of Capitol mentorship, Sejanus remained caught between the stark plastic of his seat and the weight of his unresolved fears.
Dean Highbottom, with his sly smirk etched on his sunken face, intercepted Coriolanus, halting him in his tracks. Sejanus strained to catch the words exchanged between them, but the cacophony of the producers' urgent shouts about the imminent commencement of the Games drowned out their conversation. Despite the muffled noise, Sejanus couldn't shake the feeling that his name had been part of that brief exchange. His attention snapped back to the screen in front of him, anxiety intensifying as the countdown to the grim spectacle began.
A feed slowly began to channel through, projected onto the screen was the tributes standing in a circle around the rumble of the arena. Weapons glistened in the centre of the cornucopia, the cameras slowly panned across the tributes as they anxiously awaited the countdown to reach its end. The screen was showing a section of the tributes. Lucy Gray stood looking around with intensity, her eyes drifting around the arena. Sejanus could see her desperately shouting at someone by her side. Her voice was extremely muffled. The camera slowly drifted over to her left, (Y/n) was collapsed on the floor, tears flooding her eyes. Her hands were clasped over her mouth, attempting to stifle her screams, while her glazed eyes were fixed on an unseen point beyond the frame. Lucy Gray desperately tried to shake her out of the trance.
As the countdown reached its final digits, the screen transitioned to its final overview of all the tributes. In the distance, something caught Sejanus's eye, sandwiched between two giant flags of the Capitol. A massive pole protruded near the arena walls, and from it hung a vaguely human form. The sun that beamed into the arena shone what looked like a spotlight through the collapsed roof. Sejanus sprung from his seat, squinting his eyes, focusing on the figure that had distracted him completely from the carnage. The alarm blared as Lucy Gray grabbed (Y/n), rushing towards a tunnel where Jessup awaited them. As the camera angle changed, it showed more of the figure. Sejanus felt his heart drop, rage rushing through his body he threw the chair at the viewing screen. He could contain his anger as he shouted infuriated by the needless display of violence.
"You're monsters! All of you!" Sejanus's voice echoed in the room as he glanced around, faces mostly unfazed. Arachne sat with a sly grin, observing his crumbling exterior. The cameras captured the entire scene, revealing the crucified figure, badly beaten and strung up with no way to defend himself—Marcus.

The deafening ring in her ears competed with the grotesque scene before her as the final cannon fired. (Y/n) forced herself to avert her gaze from Marcus's battered body, only to be met with a horrifying display of brutality. The faces of those she had been forced to live with for a week were now contorted into expressions of ruthless aggression, chasing down anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path. The once-subdued tributes had become brutal beasts, a disturbing metamorphosis fueled by the Capitol's insatiable appetite for bloodsport.
Reeling from the shock, (Y/n) felt a pair of arms encircle her waist, lifting her back onto her feet. Lucy Gray's words were muffled by the persistent ringing in her ears. Shaking off the disorientation, she grasped Lucy Gray's hand, allowing her to guide them toward Jessup, who slumped near the entrance of the tunnels. With urgency, (Y/n) pulled Lucy Gray along, leading her to Jessup's hunched figure. In that moment, she was almost glad the bombs had went off, otherwise she had no idea how to escape the vicious few in the centre of the arena.
Jessup remained almost motionless, his weakened state evident as a consuming fever drained his energy. Glancing back, (Y/n) observed Coral and her group closing in on them, displaying signs of weariness. They most likely seemed like easy targets. Lucy Gray urgently attempted to capture Jessup's attention, guiding him gently toward the safety of the tunnel. Just moments ago, (Y/n) had been paralyzed by shock, saved only by Lucy Gray's presence. As the group closed in on them, panic set in. (Y/n) turned to Lucy Gray, who hadn't made any significant progress in moving Jessup to safety. Throwing his arm over her shoulder, (Y/n) yelled,
"Quickly, help me carry him!" Lucy Gray nodded, mirroring (Y/n)'s actions. Aware of Coral's approaching threat, "They're gaining on us."
The entire sprint through the tunnel was extremely tiring, the adrenaline of being hunted began to fade as the footsteps behind them quietly faded, along with carrying the weight of someone almost twice their size. Jessup was passing in and out of consciousness, and lifting the dead weight of him really slowed the three down. Finding a small passageway inside the tunnel they reached a small space with some water running through it.
"We should rest up here for a while, just while Jessup here come back to," (Y/n) nodded at Lucy Grays statement, helping the half conscious Jessup to the floor, resting his head on her shoulder. (Y/n) tried to scoop some of the water into the palm of her hands and took a sip, it definitely wasn't the cleanest but it would do. Repeating her action she moved over the Lucy Gray,
"Here have some," she softly sipped some out of her hands before urging Jessup to have some. He just pushed her hand away, muttering something. (Y/n) held her now wet hand to his burning forehead. She knew that she couldn't leave him here, but she couldn't see him getting any better. Jessup had been off since they arrived at the zoo, whatever he had come down with, she was afraid it would take him. She knew that Lucy Gray wouldn't dare leave his side, they were in it together, they all were.
She wasn't sure how many hour had passed by since they arrived in their safe place in the tunnel. Jessup had fallen asleep a while back. Both girls agreed someone should stay awake in case of an ambush, (Y/n) agreed to stay up for a while, so Lucy Gray could rest. Everything was silent, occasionally broken up by the soft noise of the trickling water. Jessup was just getting worse, he had broken out in sweat and would thrash around in his sleep. She couldn't tear her eyes away from his form, her heart ached just looking at him. She just hoped he would pass painlessly. A soft yawn broke her gaze, Lucy Gray rubbed her eyes, a soft smile coming across her face.
"Was I out long?" A soft yawn broke (Y/n) out of her intense gaze, Lucy Gray rubbed her eyes, a soft smile coming across her face, "you weren't too lonely with me?"
"Not really, the sound of the water is kind of comforting ya' know," both girls giggled together, "I'm just kidding, Lucy Gray, I don't know what I'd do without you,"
Lucy Gray smiled softly, taking (Y/n)'s hand into her own, squeezing it softly. The room fell silent for a moment, the comfort that Lucy Gray's presence provided helped calm her anxiety by a tenfold.
"Listen Lucy Gray, I just want to say thank you for what you did back there, you didn't need to risk your own life to save me but you did and I'm really grateful for that." Turning to see Lucy Gray already looking at her, she squeezed her hand in reassurance.
"We're allies now, you gave me that healing balm to help Jessup and besides I trust 'ya, that's what friends are for, right?"

The arena was heavily guarded by peacekeepers, probably Dr. Gauls doing. Ominous red lights lit up the facade, casting a shadow onto the high walls. It was different seeing the building at night, it almost made Sejanus rethink his plan entirely.
He sighed, his hand nestled in his pocket, fingers delicately brushing over the breadcrumbs nestled within. His decision was clear; he had to find a way inside. The rear of the Arena was shrouded in quietness, and under the cloak of night, he stealthily slipped through.
The entire arena was cloaked in darkness, setting his nerves on edge. Each occasional creak or shuffle made him freeze in place, fully aware of the danger that surrounded him. Despite the risks, he knew what he had to do. Perhaps he'd even catch a glimpse of her. As he emerged from one of the numerous corridors leading to the center of the ring, the sheer scale of the wreckage unfolded before him. The broadcast to the Capital paled in comparison to the vastness of the scene, making him feel like an ant in the middle of the arena. Lamina perched atop the structure where Marcus had previously hung, fast asleep. Surveying the arena, all other tributes remained hidden from sight, and Sejanus realized that Lamina might be the one to end his life as he lay beside Marcus.
With caution, he advanced toward Marcus's lifeless form, maintaining a vigilant watch on Lamina and the dark surroundings. Marcus lay sprawled unnaturally on the cold concrete, one arm trapped beneath him, and his left leg bearing the evidence of a mangled impact. Sejanus knelt beside the fallen tribute, his eyes filled with tears he hadn't noticed, gently repositioning Marcus into a more peaceful pose with crossed arms over his chest. A solemn touch closed the lifeless eyes. From his pocket, Sejanus retrieved a small velvet bag, its contents a collection of breadcrumbs—a District Two tradition, giving the departed with the luxury of bread for the arduous journey that lay ahead of them.
He knew it was selfish to want to see (Y/n) one last time, if he called out for her and she came, he was just going to endanger her life. He didn't want that, Sejanus just wished he could kiss her one last time. He lost track of time just staring at Marcus's body. The arena was so peaceful at night, just the faint whistles of wind, lulled Sejanus into a false sense of security. The quiet crunch of gravel behind him made him go stiff, a tribute had spotted him. There was a claustrophobic silence, Sejanus teared up , thinking of his life back in Two, his Ma and (Y/n). His sallow breaths picked up once he heard the footsteps drew closer, screwing his eyes shut tightly.
"Sejanus!"
Quickly turning around to the sound of the harsh voice, deep down he wished it was her but he knew better with its deep inflection. It was Coriolanus.
"Coryo, you can't be here, you'll get killed," Coryo let out a loud scoff at his words, rolling his eyes at him. He moved forward to stand next to Sejanus,
"We'll both be killed with whatever stunt you're pulling, Dr. Gaul sent me in here to get you and if you're not back out with me, she'll kill your family and mine"
Sejanus looked up at Coriolanus from his crouched position, the red lights that were outside shone through the small gaps in the wall. It gave Coriolanus a menacing stature, compelling him to go forward. Coriolanus sighed softly, pulling Sejanus to his feet.
"If your tribute finds you out here dead, based on her reaction before, I highly doubt she'll last." Sejanus looked away, he could feel the guilt eating away at him. He was going to leave (Y/n) fending for herself, if she needed food or water he wouldn't be there to give it. It was selfish of him to leave, he would be condemning her to death. Coriolanus caught his attention again.
"At least do it for her,"

Jessup's condition worsened by the second, fading in and out of consciousness with alarming speed. Lucy Gray's worried eyes scanned his trembling form, and he seemed plagued by nightmares, soaked in the sweat that clung to Lucy Gray's undershirt. Refusing their attempts to offer water, he shook uncontrollably. Lucy Gray, lips pursed with concern, wiped the dripping sweat from his forehead. (Y/n) sighed heavily, her mind drifting to the time her mother fell ill. She vividly remembered sitting by her mother's bedside, unable to leave her, and the painful decision when her aunt couldn't afford to care for both of them. Ma Plinth, the Plinth family matriarch, had taken her in like a second daughter. Every week, with a basket full of goodies, Ma Plinth would walk (Y/n) across town to her aunt's house, nestled amidst the mountains. Lucy Gray's gaze shifted to (Y/n), and in that moment, they shared unspoken understanding.
"When my ma was very sick, Sejanus's family took me in, his ma used to come with me to visit her." (Y/n) moved softly down on the ground, kneeling next to Lucy Gray and Jessup. She really cared for Jessup and in his state, dehydration was the last thing they needed. "She was in a comatose state, we desperately needed to get her some liquid, so Ma Plinth, the doll, showed me this little trick."
The bottom of her dress, a fragment of a life she once knew, lay in tatters—blackened by dust and despair. She stared down at the remnants, clutching the fabric tightly in her hand as if holding onto the last echoes of her mother's presence. The room, cold and unforgiving, bore witness to her silent turmoil. The decision she was about to make would likely lead to her demise, but in the grand scheme of things, it felt inconsequential. Her mother, wherever she was, would have access to a television to witness her rebellious act. As she mustered the courage, a resounding ripping noise filled the concrete room, prompting a gasp from Lucy Gray, who instinctively grasped her hand to intervene.
"Oh darling, you don't need to do that-" (Y/n) cut her off lifting her hand off.
"But I do, Lucy Gray, I hate to say it but I fear Jessup won't last much longer if we don't do anything, and it's not like she can do anything about it now." She grinned as she finished ripping the final piece of the dress. Submerging it in the small stream of water that was beside them, to clean off the dirt. Squeezing out the excess water, and softly placing it over his mouth, trying to hydrate him in anyway possible. His eyes fluttered slightly, his eyes filled with panic, snatching the wet rag off his mouth and throwing it across the room.
Lucy Gray concerned, moved beside (Y/n). What was wrong with him? He desperately wiped at his lips, trying to dry them of the water before pointing an accusatory finger at both of the girls.
"Are both of you trying t' poison me?"
"Of course not Jessup, we- you're just dehydrated, we're trying t' help you!" Lucy Gray spluttered out a response as Jessup neared the two threateningly. His hands met her chest as he pushed her to the ground. Her hands flew back to try to cushion her fall.
"I know the two of you have something planned." He turned his sights to (Y/n), who had reached down to help Lucy Gray to her feet.
"We got to go Lucy Gray," she whispered quietly as she examined Jessup again. In the corner of his lips a foamy substance began to show. Rabies. Those stupid fucking rats. (Y/n) grasped Lucy Grays hand tightly pulling her quickly out to the tunnel.
"Run!"
The tunnel felt never-ending, her lungs burning with each gasp of breath, and her feet aching as they harshly pushed against the concrete. Hand tightly holding onto Lucy Gray, she wasn't going to let her go, not after everything she had done for her. Pushing harder off the rubble as a small glimmer of light began to shine through. Jessup wasn't far behind them; his thundering footsteps echoed in her ear, he was gaining on them. Stepping out into the arena, the light burned her retinas; they hadn't seen the sun in god knows how long. Quickly scanning the arena, she spotted one of the Capitol flags laying on the ground, blood pooled out from underneath it. Panicked, she quickly dragged Lucy Gray across the arena.
Some of the stands had crumbled, leaving piles of rubble stacked upon them. If she could somehow lift Lucy Gray onto them, she could make her way over to the private boxes; she could climb up to safety. If (Y/n) could help her up before Jessup got to them, she could scale her way up. They would be safe in the box. (Y/n) had no doubt that Jessup was strong, but she doubted he could rock climb up to them. District Twelve was known for their coal mining, and she doubted he could climb up a wall. Not that District Two was either, but the countless hours she spent with Sejanus out in the mountains helped a lot.
As she lifted Lucy Gray up to grasp the railing of the stands, she glanced back at Jessup as he stalked behind her, he didn't look like himself. His complexion had turned grey, the sweat on his skin glowed as the sunlight beamed in through the arena, foam dripping down his chin. She forced herself to look away as Lucy Gray pulled herself into the stands, reaching her hands over the railing to pull (Y/n) up.
She dragged Lucy Gray to the back of the stands near the box, it sat high up on the wall but the large mound of rubble that lay beside it seemed scaleable, at least for (Y/n). Lucy Gray backed up against the wall, desperately searching around the stands for a way to escape Jessup, as he made his way up to them.
"There's nowhere to go, (Y/n)!" She clutched desperately at her hands, the skin of her hands were rough, she flinched slightly from the friction against the cuts on her palms.
"Listen, I'm going to give you a boost up this piece of concrete and just climb into that box above us, ok?" (Y/n) cupped her cheeks, her eyes filled with tears as she nodded softly, glancing back at Jessup who now stood menacingly at the bottom of the stands. Her eyes glanced back into (Y/n), as her tears fell down her face.
"What about you?" Lucy Gray's hand moved to cover the hand on her cheek, "it's too high for me to help you up!"
"I'll find a way up to you, darling," (Y/n) softly wiped her tears away, Lucy Gray pulled her into her embrace, just in case.
"Please come back to me."
"I will. Now quickly, he's on his way!" Lucy Gray lifted her foot into (Y/n)'s intertwined hands, placing her hands on her shoulder for balance, she nodded as (Y/n) boosted her up. She grasped the edge, pulling herself up onto its jagged surface. (Y/n) watched as she made her way into the box to her left. Jessup had reached the top of the stands, he stood opposite her. He looked like the capitals perfect victim, forced to play this demented game, transformed by the games into a paranoid, disease-ridden killer.
Turning around quickly to work on climbing up the concrete, fingertips grasping onto small ridges that were created by the collapse. Jessup realised what she was doing, she could hear him running towards her. She made quick work climbing up the block, her fingers were screaming in pain as she gripped the ridges trying to pull up her body weight. One hand reached the up towards the top edge of the concrete, her fingertips grazed the edge. The second (Y/n) got a proper grip on the ledge, she felt a hand grip around her ankle. She tried to shake her ankle from his grasp but he was too strong, he was unwilling to let her go.
One harsh tug sent her tumbling to the ground, hitting her head on a seat as she went down. He picked her up and threw her towards the edge of the stands. She struggled to raise her head, the blow she got to her head made her feel weak, maybe, just maybe this was her time. She’d done good deed by helping Lucy Gray escape him. She just hoped Sejanus wasn’t watching, she didn’t want him to see her go this way. Her eyes fluttered open. Jessup walked menacingly towards her, tears welled up in her eyes, this wasn’t him. Slowly she stood up, her balance was uneven, the ache in her head clouding her vision, but her eyes remained unwavering on Jessup. A soft thud averted her eyes, Lucy Gray had dropped down to try help her.
“No,” (Y/n) whispered softly, she shook her head to try to get her to stop whatever she had planned. Her eyes returned to Jessup who seemed to be looking at something in the distance. There was a faint whirring sound behind her, she turned her head slowly as to not alarm Jessup, her eyes didn’t leave him until he left her peripheral. By that time the whirring grew closer, (Y/n) got a quick glance of what looked to be a drone carrying something. It flew straight past her shoulder and crashed into the wall behind them. Water exploded across the stands. All three of them stood frozen, staring at the dark stain the water created on the concrete.
Lucy Grays head turned back to face the two, but her eyes were looking passed them, her eyes grew wide. More whirring noise came from behind them, it was louder than the first. Maybe it was Sejanus trying to help her out? She began to turn her head towards the sound, when she heard Lucy Gray cry out.
“DUCK!”
(Y/n) fell to the ground, they were a lot closer than she thought. Jessup was still facing the wall in shock. The drone crashed into the stand beside him, sending the water all over him. He started shaking uncontrollably, his eyes wide with terror as the water drenched him. The realization hit him that the very thing he feared the most was now inescapable, and he screamed, his voice a mix of fear and desperation echoing through the arena. (Y/n), paralysed by the unfolding scene, could only watch helplessly as Jessup's irrational fear became a harsh reality.
Most of the drones veered toward the wall, near where Lucy Gray had crouched behind some seats. A few strays hit Jessup as he attempted to flee, reaching the edge of the stands to clamber down. But the drones were quicker.
As (Y/n) lay on the floor with her eyes tightly scrunched, she heard a loud crash and a thud. Opening her eyes quickly, she saw Lucy Gray standing from behind the seats, a hand covering her mouth with tears falling. (Y/n) shakily got to her feet before slowly turning and glancing over the edge. She gasped – he had fallen from quite a height, but that wasn't what killed him. A blade from the drone had impaled his stomach, and blood pooled around him. She had to look away from him.
(Y/n) felt a soft pair of arms wrap around her waist; it was Lucy Gray. She buried her head into the crook of (Y/n)'s neck, and (Y/n) could feel the tears wetting her skin. Turning around, she embraced Lucy Gray tightly, offering any semblance of comfort she could provide. Lucy Gray sobbed harder into her chest, and (Y/n) couldn't help but let a few tears fall as well. She might not have known Jessup as well as Lucy Gray, but he had protected them with his life, even if it was unintentional.
“Thank you,” Lucy Gray whispered softly, they had made their way back to the box, it was safe for now. (Y/n) held her tightly to her, she was so still she had assumed she had fallen asleep. (Y/n) turned to her softly stroking her hair, confusion filed her face. “For what?”
“For keeping your promise.” Lucy Gray intertwined their fingers giving her a small smile.
“I’d do anything for you Lucy Gray, I mean it.” She squeeze her hand tighter at her words. “Now, you go get some rest, you deserve it.”
Lucy Gray rested her head on her shoulder, slowly falling into slumber in the safety of (Y/n)’s arms.
(Y/n) cared deeply for Lucy Gray, as if she were her sister. She proved that tenfold when she sacrificed herself to help Lucy Gray up to the box. She didn’t deserve to be here, but then again, none of them did. She knew if it was Sejanus in her place, he would had done the same.
Her mind began to wonder back to the drones, some part of her wished that Sejanus was the one to send them, that he was watching and wanted to protect her. But she knew better than that. The drones didn’t start coming until Lucy Gray stepped away from safety, until she jumped down the concrete block, until she was standing behind Jessup. Coriolanus was a passionate mentor, she could tell the moment she laid eyes on him. He stunk of desperation. He wanted to win, so he saved both their lives to save hers. Selfishly she wished Sejanus was watching, that he was sending her gifts. But she knew that seeing Marcus in that state most likely made him quit so he wouldn’t have to see her die the same way. Her eyes welled up, all she wanted to do was embrace him, seek comfort in his arms that she hadn’t gotten since she was in District Two.
She wanted him to do it for her

Sunsets and footballers (Part 46)
Lucy Bronze x Reader (41) & Alexia Putellas x Character (10)
Masterlist (other parts here)
((**Happy 2024!!**))
“And you just left?”
Ridley shrugged. There were sat at a café Ridley was introducing her to, waiting to order.
“It sounds like a good night…”
“It was.”
“And she forgave you?”
“She said she did.”
“And you shared dessert!” YFN’s eyes were basically hearts. “That’s adorable.”
“She can’t eat too unhealthily during season.”
“Don’t go making excuses now, Riddles, she wanted to share.”
Ridley sighed, the heat of the Spanish sun shining down onto her face. Her sunglasses could only do so much. She’d dressed for the pool they were going to be bathing around at Lucy’s place, black shorts and a loose, see-through white button up shirt with a black bikini underneath. She always took advantage of her days off by spending them in the sun or doing activities. She was much more excited to spend it with her Blue though. She looked over at her little smiling face, her dimples on show. She was also dressed for the pool and wearing quite a similar outfit, though with one of Lucy’s button ups, from the looks of it. She wasn’t quite as tanned as she’d been when they’d last seen each other in Australia, though. The UK would do that to you. She seemed much happier though. Happiness suited her. Lucy suited her.
“What’re you thinking?”
“Spain suits you.”
Her face flashed a happy surprise as her smile widened, and she pretended it didn’t. “You think?”
“Yes.”
“Lucy loves it here…” She said, looking around them at the people who were so much more placid and in less of a rush than the UK. “Reminds me of Australia.”
“Do you think she’ll stay at Barca?”
“She wants to, but her knee…she doesn’t know how much longer she can keep going.”
“You know, anyone in her position would have quit years ago already. Her work ethic is impressive.”
“I know. I find it hard to believe she wanted me of all people…I’m really proud of her.”
“Don’t discount your worth, Blue. She’s very, very lucky to have you. I guarantee you bring her a lot of love and security that she’s never had before.”
Ridley had always been honest, though she knew where it was necessary. She also was incredibly good at understanding people. Even though YFN knew this, it still didn’t stop her partially freezing at Ridley’s words. She understood them to their core, and that’s only after meeting Lucy once.
The waiter came over, then. He was cute, polite, his hair was a wavy light brown mess and he gave them both the most genuine smile as he pushed the glasses up the bridge his nose. He was exactly Ridley’s type. She leant back in her chair to get a better look at him, not worried that she was obvious about it. She could feel YFN’s eyes roll and the man’s naivety slowly being replaced by his testosterone as he realised she liked him. He blushed lightly and gave a little, nervous laugh that made her want him even more.
“Good morning, my name is Christian, what can I get for you today?” He asked, his voice so Spanish that she knew he didn’t speak English. She assumed he was new to the café as Ridley hadn’t seen him before.
“Torrijas and pan con tomate, both to share. A café cortado for me, and an apple juice for my friend, please.” Ridley replied in perfect Spanish, ordering for the two before they’d even looked at the menus. YFN didn’t mind, she was used to it, and Ridley knew exactly what she wanted anyways.
She handed the menus over with a smile she knew would catch him off guard. She could hear a little nervous breath as he took them, able to compose himself enough to nod at both before he left. She watched as he went. She was going to rock his fucking world.
“Ridley…” YFN chastised. She was the only person in the world who’d not be encouraging at something like that. She kept Ridley’s morals intact, which is one of the reasons she loved her so much. Also, hearing her actual name from her lips meant she was in trouble.
“He’s cute.” She murmured, still looking.
“Poor form.”
“I’m not in a relationship.”
“And what about the conversation we were just having?”
“Alexia and I aren’t dating.”
“But you want to be.”
“Wanting and doing are two entirely different concepts. Maybe I just want to fuck her and my brain is pretending it’s in love with her.”
“You know that’s not true. Yes, you obviously want to have sex with her. But you’ve had the opportunity, and you haven’t really… that night doesn’t count. You know she makes you feel differently. I hear the way you talk about her.”
That interested Ridley. She thought she’d done a good job of being nonchalant when speaking about the hazel-eyed footballer.
“I don’t owe her anything.”
“You keep telling yourself that, Riddles.”
Ridley hated when YFN was disappointed with her, which was a rarity. Did she owe her something, she wondered? For the feelings Alexia made her feel? For the feelings Ridley made Alexia feel? For the tension? For the unsaid acknowledgement from them both at dinner the other night that they could be something more?
Argh, emotions, her thoughts muttered. This is why she avoided them because they were always so fucking complicated. She wasn’t bad at them necessarily, she just avidly avoided them, so it was funny that the person closest to her in the world, the one sitting on the other side of the table, was the complete opposite.
“Any plans for tonight?” She asked, changing the subject.
“Lucy is organising a meet up for the Barca team to introduce me,” she said, her disappointment gone and her smile back. So she’d be with Alexia tonight. As if reading her thoughts, “I’m not sure who’s going. Lucy’s handling all of it.”
“Mmn. And this dress you need is for which event?”
“Uh…GQ Awards?”
“In London? How did you manage that?” She was surprised, and a little suspicious.
“My boss knows people.”
“Mmnhmn.” Again, the suspicion, but she didn’t push. “Date?”
“Solo.”
“To help Jordan and Leah, right?”
YFN had mentioned it was to support her ‘friends’ but hadn’t mentioned who. Though, she didn’t seem surprised that Ridley had made a correct assumption.
“Cheeky, but yes.”
“Okay, solo, representing your business, celebrity awards…obviously we need something sexy. It’s the Man of the Year awards so everybody will be dressing more masculine, even the women. Expect suits everywhere. So I’m thinking we go opposite and make you look so sexy that the men will want you on their arms.”
“I don’t want to go too crazy..”
“It’s okay, baby, I know exactly what you need.” Their drinks and food arrived then; the server just as nervous as previously. Ridley shot him another grin that had him tripping over his feet as he left. “And you said Jordan wants an outfit too?”
“Only if we find something nice. She’s been busy with training and doesn’t want to ask Leah.” She slid her phone over the table for Ridley. “This is what Leah is wearing.”
“Fuck me, she’s stunning. We can find something to match that. Jordan has a gorgeous figure. If Leah is in a dress, is Jordan happy with a suit?”
“I think she’d prefer a suit to be honest…”
“Perfect, I already have something in mind.”
“I also have her sizing-” The look Ridley shot her was almost offended. She was good at sizing. “Never mind, now what are these?”
“Apple juice for the drink. These are torrijas which are essentially a sweet cinnamon sugar French toast, but the Spanish way. They tend to get offended at that description, though. I know you like your sweet things. And this is pan con tomate which is a very popular dish in Spain where you have bread, usually ciabatta, which you brush with olive oil and toast before rubbing garlic cloves over the bread and then spreading the tomato on top. If I were to liken it to anything, it would be closest to bruschetta, just with tomato puree and it’s simpler.” She gestured to the tables around them, most of which had the same. “It’s very popular in Catalonia.”
“I feel like falling in love with Spain is inevitable at this point.”
Ridley allowed herself a chuckle. “Well, you’ll always have a home with me.” She let herself pause to see YFN’s smile. “If you’re used to naked people, that is.”
YFN groaned.
“What? You’ve seen me naked.” Ridley teased.
“You know, I think the noise would be the deal-breaker.”
She shrugged. “I soundproof. And then there’s the gags-”
Ridley was stopped by a small torrija launched in her general direction which she caught with ease and bit into as if it were meant for her.
They finished up their brunch and of course Ridley collected the server’s number before they left, much to YFN’s disapproval. Ridley made sure YFN had all of the attention and care she needed when they chose a dress. By the end of it, even she admitted it was stunning. It was a simple, charcoal grey satin dress which curved down around her body, hugging all of the right places. It was a spaghetti strap and low back to accentuate one of her best features, her back, and those dimples at the bottom. The design was so elegant and simplistic that even YFN loved it. They played around with hairstyles, Ridley eventually convincing her that a minimal boho side-braid would be the best with the dress the show off her collarbone on one side. They picked out jewellery, a simple silver necklace and a few rings along with an exquisite silver flower ear cuff. YFN had said she’d never felt so beautiful in her life. Ridley was proud of that. She loved putting confidence into others, especially YFN.
During her fittings and talks to the staff, Ridley had been doing some shopping of her own, amongst which was a suit for Jordan to wear. It was expensive, but money had never been a factor for Ridley as she purchased everything they’d chosen that day, including YFN’s items before she’d even had a chance. Ridley had YFN tell Jordan that she had a full outfit picked out for her as she drove them to lunch by the beach. A dip in the water was tempting, but they were already both hanging out for the pool at home. A lazy day, just with each other’s company.
“Do you mind if we pick up Chiquito on the way to yours?” Ridley had asked.
“He won’t fight with Narla?”
“He doesn’t fight with anyone unless it’s for my attention.”
“Okay, then.”
Chiquito was Ridley’s cat. He was a young, grey Turkish Angora that she’d rescued during her recent contract in Dubai. Due to the weather, he was a lot less furry than others of the same breed and being Ridley’s pet, he was quite used to all things outdoors including swimming. Unusual for a cat. They say pets are like their owners, and in that aspect he was, along with being the cuddliest cat on the planet according to Ridley. YFN had not met him yet, though.
They stopped by Ridley’s house, which she’d only seen in photos. It was massive. To own a house in Spain, you needed to be well off, let alone to own a house of that size. It was typical Spanish architecture, and from the state of it and the Spanish gardens, it was obvious she had people to take care of it. Inside, it was still original with a modern twist. The attention to detail was incredible, she knew Ridley must have had a lot of input into the intricacies of the place. Everything was so neat and tidy and…Ridley. Chiquito greeted them at the door, excited to meet someone new. He let YFN pick him up and cuddle him while Ridley showed her around the house. The outdoor area and pool were stunning. YFN’s jaw dropped. She knew Ridley was rich, but she had no idea how rich. She was scared to look in the garage.
“Why don’t we just swim here?” She laughed as she stared.
Ridley shrugged. “We can. Isn’t Lucy picking you up from your apartment, though?”
Your apartment, she’d said. A Ridley way of saying she approved of their relationship which was more important to her than she realised. “I can just give her this address.”
“Okay, it’s settled. We’ll stay here then.”
Two people rounded the corner then and YFN jumped.
“It’s okay,” Ridley laughed. “It’s just my housekeeper and caretaker. Blue, this is Maria and Mateo.”
She waved while Ridley introduced them to her in Spanish. They were a cute, older couple who looked happy to see someone other than one of Ridley’s casuals. Ridley asked them something in Spanish and they nodded, getting to work.
“They live in the guest house,” she said. “They look after the place 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I’m practically just their guest who’s home on occasion.”
“They seem lovely. What did you ask them?”
“I just told them to expect more company and asked if we could have some snacks out by the pool.”
Ridley was similar to Lucy, always hungry, because she was always working out. She showed her around the entire place, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, gym, kitchen, living areas and she even had a music room. Ridley loved her music. She’d always played when they were younger.
“Do you remember any of the guitar I taught you?” She asked.
“Some I think?”
Ridley grinned and picked up an acoustic guitar, handing it to her, before taking her favourite since high school, a cream coloured Sterling Cutlass. Ridley took a few more things including an amp out by the pool with them and set them up. YFN texted Lucy the address before they settled in for a swim and a play. Watching Chiquito get in the water and swim was one of the strangest things she’d ever seen, and it was hilarious to see him all soaked as he got out. They sun-baked for a while in their bikini’s and had a few jam sessions, the music coming back to YFN. Ridley could tell how much she’d missed it and the calm that came with it that she enjoyed. Snacks, guitars, swimming, Chiquito. It was perfect. They’d lost track of time, the sun getting lower in the sky. YFN was sprawled out on her sunbed in her bikini and open button up, eyes closed and listening to Ridley as she jammed to a song. Ridley was proud of her musical intelligence, following flows and creating her own melodies. She was sitting partially cross-legged on her sunbed, also in her bikini and button up, Bose headphones on and head moving to the sounds she was improvising. They had Spotify playing popular songs that she was improvising solos to, eyes closed and in her happy place. Chiquito was by her foot, now fluffy again with the sun drying his fur, curled up with his paw draped over her foot. He was a touchy cat.
She was in the middle of a solo to The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, one of her favourite songs, when a grape hit her head. She was undisturbed and reached for it, popping it into her mouth before another one hit her and she got the hint, her eyes opening to a sight she hadn’t expected.
Lucy was there. With Ona Batlle. And Keira Walsh. And Alexia.
Alexia would have been lying if she said she wasn’t turned on by the sight of Ridley jamming away in her bikini. YFN threw a grape at her, impacting her temple but she didn’t flinch, she stayed in her zone, even popping the grape into her mouth as her fingers expertly navigated her instrument. She opened her eyes at the second grape, though, her eyes immediately finding Alexia with a grin before they roamed over the others she was with. She popped the second grape in her mouth and tilted her head, pulling her headphones down around her neck.
“What in the world of football lesbians do we have here?”
Another grape hit her head. This one was thrown by Lucy, though, from her spot on the bottom of YFN’s sunbed.
“Are you secret royalty?” Lucy asked.
“No, just materialistic, I guess.”
Lucy chuckled at that and Alexia could tell they were already good friends. “I brought a few people, I hope you don’t mind. I drove them all to practise this morning.”
YFN was standing, introducing herself to Keira and Ona. Keira was happy to meet her, hugs and all. Ona was a little quieter than usual, Alexia realised. It had been last minute that they’d diverted and she hadn’t realised YFN would be here, she supposed.
“The more, the merrier.”
“The pool looks tempting. I would ask for a swim, but the sun is setting and we don’t have bikini’s.”
“I wouldn’t be opposed to a little skinny dipping, Bronze,” she replied with a wink.
“Riddlessss…” Came the warning from YFN. “Play nice.”
Ridley put her hands up in a gesture of submission. “Party wrecker.”
YFN rolled her eyes. “Ona, Keira, this is Ridley, Ridley, this is half of the Barca team,” she said with a laugh. It was a happy sound that made Lucy turn around just to look at her. She stepped forward and put a hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder where she sat. “And you already know Lucy and Alexia.”
Ridley gave a wave. “Hola. And this is Chiquito. Welcome to our home.” She gestured around her as she picked up the little grey cat. “Have you come to take my friend away?”
Ridley stood then, most of her body on show. Alexia couldn’t physically help but stare at her. So many scars she hadn’t noticed before. And…tattoos? Ridley wandered over closer to the group, not bothering to close the button up like YFN had. With a body like that, she didn’t blame her.
“Sure have. I hear you helped YFN find a dress for Friday?”
“Not ‘helped’.” YFN said. “She did everything. And accessories. And hair. And Jordan’s outfit also. I can’t wait for you to see it!” She gushed leaning further onto Lucy. Alexia knew she didn’t mean to be so touchy in front of Ona, it was just how they were together. Thinking that, she remembered Ridley’s fingertips on her hand at the restaurant the other night, her lips on her cheek as she said goodbye, her fingertips rubbing her clit into her orgasm and through it-
“La Reina?”
That pulled her from her daze, her eyes immediately locking with Ridley’s.
“Si?”
“Are you okay with it?”
“With what…?”
Ridley’s smile and eyebrow raise made her feel like she knew she was the reason she was so distracted. That stunning face. Alexia was…nervous. It was an unusual feeling.
“I asked Ridley if she wanted to come tonight and she only will if you’re okay with it.” Lucy responded. She was standing now, one arm around YFN’s hip.
Alexia cleared her throat quietly and responded quickly trying to not be so obvious about wanting exactly that. “Si…yes I’m okay with it.”
Alexia tore her gaze off of Ridley, finding anything else. Her eyes fell on YFN who was biting her lip and Alexia wondered what she was thinking before she spoke. “We can meet you at the bar if you want?”
Ah, she must have been thinking about an awkward car ride sitting between Ona and Keira.
“Your clothes…” Lucy reminded her.
“I have plenty of clothes here. Many different sizes. We’ll find something cute for her to wear.” Ridley was confident.
Alexia wondered exactly why she had so many clothes, and her brain immediately thought of women she had over. Was it for them?
“It is…a boy?” Ona asked in broken English, stepping closer to Ridley and looking at Chiquito.
“Si.” She took a small step forward for Ona to pat. Ona was very much an animal lover. Keira stepped forward also when she realised how cuddly he was.
“How old is he?” She asked.
“Just turned one.”
“You adopted him?”
“She rescued him while she was in Dubai,” YFN answered for her.
Ridley rescued him? The thought of her seeing the little cat and wanting to take him home to Spain moved something in her. Her heart softened. He was very much obsessed with his mum, from the way he looked at her. Alexia felt a sadness in her stomach for her Pomeranian, Nala, who she’d recently lost. She pushed that emotion aside and gave way to the next which surprisingly was a deep jealousy, watching both Ona and Keira so close to Ridley, brushing up against her as they patted Chiquito in her arms. Keira stepped back first, being more of a dog than a cat person and even while Ona was still patting him, he looked over at Alexia and extended a paw in a stretch, slowly blinking. She thought she was going crazy, thinking he was gesturing to her when Ridley caught her attention.
“I think he wants to meet you.”
Alexia hesitated, not allowing herself to look up at Ridley just yet, for fear of daydreaming or doing something stupid again. She stepped towards the cat who was leaning into Ona’s hands, though looking at the Barca captain as she came so close she was almost touching Ridley. She stroked her fingertips through his soft, longish grey hair, noticing there wasn’t much of him. He was still a baby. And he was adorable.
“He’s intelligent, no?” She asked in Spanish.
“Si, very much so,” Ridley replied in perfect Spanish.
Ona’s head shot up. “You speak Spanish?”
“Of course, I live and work here.”
“Most people don’t bother to learn.”
She shrugged. “You learnt English, no? It’s rude to move to a country and not try to learn the language.”
“Wow, your Spanish is so good!” She complimented, listening to it roll off of her tongue. Ridley smirked at her and that jealously hit Alexia hard again. Very, very hard. So hard she felt sick and took a step back. She looked over at Lucy who’s eyes widened as she noticed.
“Okay, should we stop patting Ridley’s cat and go?” It was a deliberate sexual innuendo, obvious enough to earn her a slap on the arm by YFN. They grinned at each other.
“I’ll see you there. Text me the address.”
“Actually, we’re going to Javier’s bar…” Alexia said.
“Javier?” Ridley seemed confused and the look in her eye was almost as if she would back out. Alexia wasn’t surprised, she would have a lot of people flirting with her there. She couldn’t imagine she’d get through the night without spending some time up in one of the private rooms with someone.
“Is that okay?” YFN asked, a hand going onto her friend’s arm.
“Si,” she replied, pulled from her thoughts, her eyes finding Alexia’s. “Yes, we’ll see you there.”
Alexia was sitting on a bar stool, her leg bouncing as they waited. All of the Barca girls were there and having a good time. It was the middle of the week, so they weren’t drinking, just having dinner and chatting away. A hand touched her knee gently and she turned to Lucy who was giving her a look. A look that said ‘calm down, everything is okay.’
“They’ll be here soon.”
They’d arrived earlier, and Alexia knew that. Just as she said that, they walked through the door. She knew that because of the regulars greeting Ridley, and Lucy’s head snapping to watch YFN like she sensed she was there. Lucy stood automatically and Alexia couldn’t help but chuckle. They were just as bad as each other. While Ridley was tied up with some of the staff and regulars, Lucy introduced YFN around the table. Alexia forced herself to talk to Mapi and Ingrid across from her, distracting herself. She’d only lost sight of Ridley for a few minutes when the hair on her neck tingled and she smelled her perfume as she came up behind her.
“Is this seat taken?” She asked in Spanish.
Alexia shook her head as Ridley took a seat to her left, but not before introducing herself to Mapi and Ingrid over their table who gave Alexia a look. It was common knowledge around the team by now of Alexia’s ‘crush’. The ‘one who made her so grumpy’ Oshoala had said.
“Alexia!” Came another voice from behind her. She turned in her seat and grinned at Javier who had his arms outstretched as he came in for a hug and a kiss on either cheek. “Ridley was telling me about how your friends are dating…small world, yes?” He laughed.
“Apparently so,” she grumbled.
He laughed again at that. Javier was not stupid. He knew people. Not of people. But…people. What made them tick. It’s what made him so good at his job. “Servers will be around soon, I’m heading off for an early night, I just wanted to say hello first.”
“Sexy date?” Ridley asked.
“Oh baby, you know it. I’m going to blow his socks off.”
They shared a hand clap and a cheeky look between them. Javier said his goodbyes and left, but not before slipping something to Ridley that she caught out of the corner of her eye. Her stomach sank. Was it a room key, so she could fuck someone?
Lucy and YFN returned to their seats on the right side of Alexia, Lucy grabbing the bottom of YFN’s chair and dragging it right up against hers. Cute. Although Ridley wasn’t as close, she was very aware that she was right next to her, no matter where she looked.
“Alexia?” A small voice came from behind her.
She turned in her chair to see a young girl in a Barca jersey holding up a little teddy. Alexia took it out of politeness.
“Hola. Would you like me to sign this?” She asked in Spanish with a smile.
“No, that’s a present for you. Could I get a photo?”
Alexia smiled and nodded. She knelt down next to the girl and held the teddy up, one arm going around her as her mother took a photo of both of them.
“Thank you for my teddy, it’s very cute.”
“Her name is Nala.” Alexia hesitated, not able to find words. “Because you lost Nala.”
The melancholy must have been written on her face because her mother stepped forwards putting her hands on her daughter’s shoulders. “I’m so sorry, Alexia. She heard you lost Nala and wanted to give you something…I hope it’s okay?”
“Y..yes.” She replied, her voice cracking. “Yes of course, sorry, you caught me off guard. Thank you for this.” The last part was directed to the girl who smiled.
She watched them as they walked off and she returned to her barstool, holding the teddy to her with one arm. Nala. Fingertips touched her hand. She looked at Ridley who had lost all cheekiness, her eyes sincere.
“Are you okay?” The question was soft and just between the pair.
Alexia nodded. “Si, thank you.”
“She’s cute,” she murmured, looking at the teddy.
Her fingertips left her then and the skin where they were became cold.
The rest of the night was full of good talks, and a few awkward moments. Ona had been unable to stop her eyes wandering to Lucy, and it was obvious to everyone at the table besides her. YFN made her way around to talk to different people, Ridley mingling also. Ona had been flirting with Ridley and Alexia wondered if it was intentional, or just to distract herself from Lucy. From what she’d seen, Ridley had been polite about it, but that hadn’t stopped the jealousy. They all moved around, not really keeping their seats as they spoke to each other. Alexia kept her little teddy close so it wouldn’t be covered in drinks or food.
“Ridley!”
Ridley turned, so did Alexia who was a few people down from her. He was a handsome guy who’d had a few to drink, and he spoke to Ridley like he knew her.
“Hola.”
“It’s me!” He said in Spanish with a slur.
She tilted her head.
“Max?”
“Oh! Max. Hola.” She seemed uninterested and as if he’d interrupted them, which he had. Still, her reaction caught Alexia off guard because she was usually nice to everyone.
He frowned. “I thought you’d be more excited to see me.”
“I’m with friends, Max. Is everything okay?”
“I just wanted to know if you’re free.”
“Clearly not.”
Another frown. “I’m beginning to think you don’t like me…”
“I’ve told you multiple times in the past that I don’t.”
“Come on baby.” He grabbed her jaw. “I wanna see what that mouth can do.”
Alexia took a step forwards but stopped as YFN grabbed her arm. “She’s got this.” She murmured.
Ridley slapped his hand away. “My mouth can do a lot of things…” She teased.
“Like what baby?”
“Like hurt your feelings. Now fuck off.”
He didn’t take it well and his jaw flexed as Ridley turned her back on him. A woman came over and grabbed his arm, dragging him away before returning and grabbing Ridley, spinning her around.
Ridley groaned. “What in the one mutual friend do you want?”
“That’s my boyfriend.”
“I’m sorry. Do you need a therapist? I have a great one I can recommend.”
A few of the Barca girls chuckled under their breath, enjoying the show.
“Fuck you. He’s a great guy! He was just being nice!”
“You see a lot of potential in a guy who obviously sleeps on a mattress on the floor.”
Alexia coughed to cover a laugh and from the side of Ridley’s mouth smirking, she knew she heard it.
“You’re just a fucking-”
“Uh uh.” Ridley cut off. “Before you try to hurt my feelings, take into account that I don’t have any, and that you probably do. Now go back to your boyfriend and maybe give him some attention so he’ll stop trying to pick up women in the bar like he does every other night.”
“He does not.”
She shrugged. “Just warning you. Have fun.”
“He’s…he just like sex. He’s the reason I’m happy.”
“Good for you. I’m the reason a lot of people drink heavily. Now fuck off before I call security.”
She raised her hand, gesturing to the security guard watching them. The woman looked over and thought about it until she gave up and walked away. Ridley nodded to the security guard who nodded back and kept an eye on them.
Ridley turned back around to the applause of the Barca girls and Alexia would be lying if she said she wasn’t incredibly turned on. Apparently Ona was also as she leant in and shared a chuckle with her about the ordeal. Alexia turned away but couldn’t find a distraction anywhere. Across from her, Mapi and Ingrid were kissing, and to her right, YFN and Lucy were getting closer, talking lowly with their eyes loving each other. She couldn’t be mad, but she was. So mad. Behind the madness she could feel loneliness and sadness. She looked at the time. 9pm. They had training tomorrow.
“I’m going to head off,” she murmured thinking no one would hear. They did.
“Already?” Lucy asked before looking at the time, her eyes widening and turning to YFN. “We need to get you to bed.”
YFN had an early flight.
“We’ll come too,” Mapi nodded.
“I want to stay,” Ona said, but it was directed more at Ridley. Her eyes flicked to Lucy and back though.
Alexia didn’t even want to hear the response, thinking about the room key in her pocket. She stood and said her goodbyes, holding her teddy close as she walked out with Lucy, YFN, Mapi, Ingrid, and a few others.
“Who needs a lift?” Lucy asked.
Alexia, Mapi and Ingrid put their hand up for that. Oshoala offered to take Patri and Keira home while Caroline and Marta were going together.
On the way to the car, they were approached by two young men wanting autographs. Alexia had seen them before, and knew they didn’t care about them, they just used their autographs to make money. The Barca girls brushed them off but they were insistent. One of them was going for Lucy and pushed YFN out of the way. She stumbled and fell to her knees.
Lucy saw red and shoved him away, helping YFN back onto her feet, putting her behind her protectively. “Get the fuck away from her.”
He put his hands up and backed away, Lucy waiting until far enough away to look at YFN’s scraped hands. She put her in the passenger side and closed the door, holding the rear door open for the others. Ingrid jumped in and Mapi was shoving the other insistent guy away before he got to the Norwegian. Alexia was last, and obviously his prime target.
“Alexia!” He held out something for her to sign. She ducked her head kept walking to the car. “What, so you’ll only sign it if I’m a girl? Typical lesbian.”
What he said was disgusting, but it wasn’t something she hadn’t heard before. She kept walking to the car as he backed away, though he seemed to change his mind and before she got to the car, he snatched the teddy from her arms and ran away.
“No!” She yelled after him. Nala. He jumped into the car his friend was in, both laughing as they started the engine. Alexia knew better than to pursue in case she was hurt and just stood there, her arm still outstretched a little from when she’d tried to stop him. She couldn’t help the tears that fell from her eyes. A hand touched her arm and she turned. Ridley. One look at her face and Ridley’s jaw flexed, her expression changing to something Alexia hadn’t seen before. Ridley ran to their car as they started it up and grabbed the door handle. It was locked. They stuck their finger up at her and started to drive off. She ran with them and that’s when she smashed the front window in with her fist. It took a few tries and Alexia gasped when she watched it, knowing how much it must have hurt. The guys yelled and hit the brakes as she leant through the window and grabbed the teddy. She left them there, and wandered back over to Alexia, her anger disappearing as she did so. The car sped off behind her. Alexia looked wide eyed at Ridley as she handed the teddy back to her as if it was nothing.
“Some things can’t be replaced.” She murmured, not meeting her eyes.
Alexia’s lips trembled and she wiped the tears from her eyes, taking it and holding it close to her. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now, can you drive my car to hospital please? I broke my hand.”

“Goodnight,” I bend down, kissing the top of Lucy’s head. She peaks at me from behind her unicorn covered duvet with wide eyes. I hold back the eye roll, knowing what she really wants. “Dad is just saying goodnight to Ada, he’ll be here in a couple of minutes.”
“I’m right here, baby,” Charles suddenly appears behind me, leaning around me to gently caress Lucy’s jaw. My heart flutters at the feeling of his chest pressed against my back. “Goodnight, we’ll see you in the morning.”
I whisper a hushed goodnight to Lucy, looking over at Ada’s bed to see her already asleep. Charles and I make our way out of their bedroom. I close the door behind me as Charles heads towards the kitchen, grabbing the pans from dinner to wash.
I linger in the short hallway, my fingers playing with each other nervously. I know Charles won’t be upset by what I have to say- in fact, I’m sure he’s going to be ecstatic about it. But I also know that he’s going to get that smug look that he always gets and I really don’t want to be told ‘I told you so’ right now.
“What’s up?” Charles asks, glancing over his shoulder at me.
It’s also nice to just stand here and watch the muscles in his back move as he washes the pan.
“What do you mean?”
“Why are you just staring at me?”
I shift my weight from one foot to the other, staring down at my painted toenails. It’s only when I look up to see that Charles has now turned around and is watching me in concern that I realize my actions might be giving off the wrong impression.
“Can we talk?”
“Yeah, of course,” he motions towards the table.
I pull out a chair, sitting on one side of the table while Charles sits on the other. He rests his forearms on the surface, leaning forward to show me that he’s fully engaged in whatever conversation we’re about to have.
“What do you want to talk about?” He asks.
I sigh, staring off to the side. I really want to put this off as long as I can. He reaches across the table, pulling my hands into his own. My heart stops as I shift my gaze forward, making eye contact with his gorgeous hazel eyes.
“Mon amour, you’re scaring me,” he whispers.
I’m suddenly aware of the way that I’ve been acting. I must look suspicious by avoiding eye contact and utilizing my nervous ticks.
“Oh, no, it’s not anything bad,” I reassure him, moving one of my hands up his arm to grab at his forearm. “I um, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately… that flat that you bought on the West End. Do you still have it?”
His eyebrows furrow in confusion. “Yeah, why?”
“Maybe I was too rash and harsh with my decision,” I say sheepishly, “This flat does get very crowded with all of the girls' toys and clothes and it would be nice to not have to call the landlord because something is broken every week.”
A knowing, yet smug, smile begins to make its way across his face. “So what are you saying?”
I give him an annoyed look. “Don’t make me say it.”
“Oh, I’m going to make you say it.”
“Fine, I’ll just never say it,” I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest. We stare at each other, waiting for the other one to break first.
We sit in silence.
Finally, he breaks, releasing a loud groan. “Fine, Y/N, will you, Ada, and Lucy move into a flat with me on the West End?”
“If it’ll make you feel better, we will move into a flat with you.” Now I’m the one giving him the smug smile.
He rolls his eyes, standing from the chair and pushing it back in. “How do you always have the upper hand?”
My mind flashes me back to those nights that Charles and I spent with each other between the sheets, bodies pressed against each other. When I make eye contact with Charles, he gives me a look that says that he knows what I was thinking about and that he was thinking of the same thing.
I didn’t have the upper hand then.
I stand from my chair, breaking both of us out of our lust-filled gazes and thoughts.
“That’s just the way that it is, baby.”
~
Y/N: I have off tomorrow so I’m going to take some of the things that we don’t use every day over to the new apartment
Charles: Sounds good, thanks. I can’t wait to see you and the girls more often.
Y/N: We can’t wait to see you more often too
“Oh, I know that grin,” Franny says in a sing-song tone.
My hand instantly locks my phone and I hold it close to my chest, looking up at her with wide eyes.
“Now that wasn’t suspicious at all.”
“What do you mean?” I question.
“The smile and blush while texting and then acting incredibly secretive about it. You don’t have to worry about our judgment, Y/N, we’re relaxed,” my manager encourages.
“I know who it is,” Kylie gives me a sly grin.
“Kylie,” I whine.
“What? Franny’s chill,” she shrugs.
I sigh, considering her words. It’s true, Franny is easy-going. And there’s nothing personal about not wanting to tell her who I’m blushing and smiling about, I know that she would be happy for me and encourage me to go after what my heart wants.
But… telling her makes it so much more real. I know from the way that my stomach flutters whenever I get a text or the way that my cheeks instantly redden when my phone rings with an incoming FaceTime call that my feelings for Charles have quickly turned into romantic ones. Saying it out loud and informing people means that other people will know. Which means they’ll ask me if I’ve asked him out yet, or kissed him, or done anything to turn our relationship romantic.
And with this public revelation- which admittedly has made us closer, causing a shift in our relationship and brought me and our daughters into the spotlight once again, I don’t want to do anything else to rock the boat.
“Franny…” I take a deep breath, “I think I like Charles.”
“Oh, I don’t think, I know,” Kylie adds, grabbing her tray and leaving the kitchen with a cheeky grin.
“Why don’t you look happy about it?” She asks cautiously.
“Because I’m not,” I cry out. “Charles is a great guy, and he’s awesome with Ada and Lucy and super cute but, I just can’t explore that with him right now, Franny. It just changes everything and I think everything has changed so much already lately.”
“I understand,” she agrees softly.
My gaze snaps to her in surprise, not expecting those words to exit her mouth. Kylie, the only other person I’ve talked about my feelings with, told me to go for it, which I expected. There’s so much encouragement to always chase your heart and do what you want because you only live once, but I don’t think people realize how much courage one must have to do those things.
“If you feel like not making a move is the best thing for everyone involved at this moment in time, don’t do it. But don’t push those emotions away entirely. One day the right time and place is going to come and you might want to confess them then,” she suggests.
I nod my head slowly. “That’s exactly how I feel, Franny. Thank you.”
~
As I carry the wad of bubble wrap from what’s going to be my bedroom into the main room, I’m distracted by the sound of my phone vibrating on the counter. I set the bubble wrap down, replacing its place in my hand with my phone. Lando’s contact photo shows up.
I hesitate, deciding whether to answer it or not. I’ve still been ignoring my siblings attempts to reach out, not on purpose anymore, though. I’ve just been busy with work, university, and being a full-time single mom again since Charles has had back-to-back race weekends lately, and moving with two toddlers definitely hasn’t been easy.
Heck, I’m sure Charles is growing concerned with how little I’ve been responding to him, and I talk to him the most.
Something inside tells me to answer the phone, though, so I do.
“Hey Lando.”
“Hey,” there’s an awkward pause, “How have you been?”
“Busy,” I confess, not wanting to expand much on that in fear of how Lando will react to me and Charles moving in together. That’s an argument that I don’t want to start when we have a million other things to fight about.
“Yeah, I’m sure,” he laughs. “Me too. Um, I just wanted to give you a heads up.”
I bite my lip in anxiety. That’s never a good thing to hear. I slide into one of the new barstools. “Okay, I’m sitting, lay it on me.”
“I saw that post about Ada and Lucy on that gossip page and then Charles’ post confirming it. And I was talking to mum about it last night and she kind of let it slip that our cousin Sarah, Aunt Beth’s daughter, was the one who was sharing the photos through an anonymous account on social media.”
It’s quiet as I digest the information.
“And she didn’t even tell me?” I whisper out.
“She didn’t know how,” he explains, and maybe it’s just my perception because of my relationship with my mother, but it sounds defensive. “You guys already don’t have the best relationship and she was afraid that adding this to the mix would make it even worse.”
“She still could’ve told me, this is my daughters lives and privacy, not just something like the grocery store being out of fucking popsicles,” I angrily wipe at the tears building in my eyes. “And Sarah- ugh, I’ve always known that she’s a bitch.”
“She gets it from Aunt Beth,” Lando agrees.
“Well, thanks for telling me, Lan.”
“Yeah, of course. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
I hang up the phone, setting it down to wipe at the remaining tears on my face. As soon as I do, my phone rings with another phone call.
If it’s that bitch Sarah I’m ripping her to shreds.
Instead, it’s just Charles. That’s sad, I was kind of looking forward to laying into Sarah.
She also stole my favorite Barbie doll when we were six.
“Hello?” I answer the phone.
“Hey,” he pauses, “Are you okay? You sound a little different.”
“Yeah, Lando just told me that our cousin was the one who shared the photos of the girls to the press.” I sniffle back the tears at the thought of the betrayal.
I can't believe my own family would do something like that. Stabbing a family member in the back is the ultimate form of betrayal, and it’s something that we can never recover from, not that Sarah would care. It’s just embarrassing that it was someone so close to me- knowing that my family would sell out the privacy that I so desperately value and crave for my daughters is humiliating when you compare it to how loyal Charles’ family has been throughout this whole process. And he didn’t even know that he was a dad- that’d be some juicy gossip to leak to the press but they didn’t.
And my own mother not telling me? No matter what her excuse is, that’s a stab in the back.
“I’m sorry, Charles,” I add, letting out a bitter chuckle. “It’s so embarrassing to have a family that’s willing to go against our wishes like this.”
He’s quiet for a minute, which makes my heart race. Is he about to chew me out on how disloyal my family is? Tell me to delete all of my family off of my social media and never to speak to them again?
Instead, the words that leave his mouth surprise me.
“How would you feel about coming to visit Monaco?”
“What?” I stutter out.
“We have a week break between Mexico and Brazil. I can get a couple more days off, go back to England to help you pack and take care of the girls on the plane, and we can spend a week or so in Monaco. They can meet my brothers and mom, you can see my family again,” he suggests.
I know what he’s trying to do. Since I have a troubled relationship with my immediate family and now a strained relationship with my extended family, he’s extending his family to me. He wants the girls to meet his family because in a way, them being loved by his family is a way of me being loved by his family. And at least then the girls can have a healthy relationship with one side of their family.
“I don’t know, Charles,” I confess hesitantly. “Don’t you think it’s too much right now? With moving and your recent post, don’t you think it’s too busy and the spotlight is on you right now?”
“Mon amour, I don’t think there’s a better time to do it.”
I take a deep breath, nodding before I realize that he can’t see me. “Okay. Yeah, we’ll go to Monaco.”
~
“Do you want me to grab anything, Charles?” I ask, watching as he stumbles and drops another bag.
“No, just take care of them,” he nods at Ada and Lucy. I nod silently, watching him struggle as he leads us down the hallway, Ada gripping one of my hands and Lucy gripping the other.
“Where are we going?” My eyes dart around nervously.
I let Charles handle all of the details around this trip. Despite my need to be in control and in the know, with everything on my plate right now I just thought it would be best for Charles to figure out flight details and where we’re staying.
“To the private jet landing.” He glances back at me before I can question him about it, dropping Ada’s backpack. She lets out a shriek at the action and he gives her a quiet apology, picking it up. “I told Max about how nervous you are flying with the girls for the first time and he offered for us to use AirMax.”
I smile at the act of consideration, my chest fluttering at the thought of him talking about me to his rival. “Thank you, Charles.”
~
Despite it being a little over an hour’s long plane ride to Nice, Ada passes out in the first five minutes of the flight. Charles is seated in the window seat while I’m sitting next to him, Ada nestled in the crook of his arm between the plane wall and his body with her eyes closed and her stuffed dolphin gifted from Lando gripped tightly in her hands.
Lucy sits on my lap, trying her best to play with her stuffed moose but finding it difficult with her eyes constantly opening and closing. Finally, she succumbs to sleep, her entire little body splayed out on top of mine. I do my best to shift into a more comfortable position without waking her, freezing when she begins to move.
“Hey,” the Ferrari driver catches my attention, motioning for me to put my arm on the aisle armrest.
I do so, watching as he slowly rests his free arm around my shoulder and pulls me into his side.
It’s like my breathing stops because I’m so close to him. I haven’t been this close to him in a long time.
I can smell his cologne.
“Is this okay?” He murmurs into my ear.
“Yeah,” I whisper, looking down at Lucy to hide my blush. I adjust her body so that her head is resting on my arm on the armrest, the rest of her body laying across my lap and into Charles’ lap.
It’s still not the most comfortable position- but I’m not going to tell Charles that.
For now I’m going to be grateful that I’m able to be so close to him again.
~
Spending time with Charles in Monaco is special. From the way that his eyes light up while showing the girls his old school, or the way that he lifts them into his yacht, everything is used as an opportunity for him to show our toddlers his home and safe space.
“Gentle, Lucy,” I wince as she runs her hand along the side of the black convertible, painted nails that need to be trimmed making a quiet noise along the paint.
Charles chuckles at the action and I look over at him with a playful glare.
“It’s an expensive car, Charles, it costs like trillions of dollars,” I point out like he doesn’t already know.
“I know it’s expensive, it’s my car. And it didn’t cost trillions of dollars.” He moves around the car, rubbing his thumb against a mark that Lucy left. It doesn't come off. “And I can always just buy new cars.”
I roll my eyes at his nonchalant attitude, watching as Ada and Lucy run around the room filled with all of Charles’ expensive and exotic cars. One of the first places he wanted to take us in Monaco was to see his car collection in the museum, and he even got the place shut down so that we didn’t have to worry about any wandering eyes or sly photographs.
“So tonight my mom is going to make pasta and chicken. Do you want alfredo sauce or marinara sauce?” Charles asks, looking down at his phone.
“Either works.”
He glances up at me but I watch as Ada falls onto the ground, instantly picking herself back up. He finishes his text before shoving his phone into his pocket, looking back over at me.
“What’s up with you?”
“What do you mean?”
“The whole purpose of this trip was for my family to meet the girls and for you to see them again but you act weird whenever I mention them,” he comments.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He gives me an unimpressed look at the response.
“Fine, I’m nervous that your family doesn’t like me,” I confess.
“What do you mean? When you worked for Lando and spent all of your time in the paddock my family loved talking to you.”
“Yeah but that was years ago. And since then I’ve had your babies and kind of, you know, kept them a secret from you,” I say sheepishly, still embarrassed by my behavior.
“My family is a lot more empathetic than you think, Y/N.”
A lot more empathetic than your family, are the hidden words.
“Yeah, maybe I’m overthinking it,” I sigh, watching as the girls poke a tire and giggle.
A familiar arm winds its way around my waist and we stand together, watching our daughters play.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be right beside you the whole time.”
~
“Mama, we’re home,” Charles cheers as he enters through the front door, holding it open for me.
My heart beats fast in my chest with anxiety as I follow behind him, Lucy clenched tightly in my arms as a comfort blanket while Ada’s in Charles’ arms.
There’s shrieking and then footsteps running on the hardwood floor, Pascale suddenly appearing before us.
“Oh,” she coos, reaching out to hold Ada’s face in her hands. Ada stares shyly back at her nana, unsure of how to act. Pascale makes the same noise, caressing Lucy’s face now. In true Lucy fashion, she flashes a charming smile, leaning into her nana’s hold.
“Hi Y/N,” Pascale grins at me.
I give a soft smile back, surprised by the warm welcome. Of course I didn’t expect a toxic environment, Charles’ family is and has always been very kind and welcoming. And we do have a good history with each other. Just not a good recent history…
“I’m going to go check on the pasta, everyone else is in the living room,” Pascale informs us before heading off towards the kitchen.
Charles leads the way into the living room where his two brothers and two women, presumably their girlfriends, are chatting. Arthur and Lorenzo stand once they see us, pulling Charles into bro hugs.
To my surprise, Arthur turns to me.
“Hey, Y/N,” he leans forward, giving me a one-armed hug as to not disturb Lucy’s position.
“Hi, Arthur.”
“How’s it going?” Lorenzo questions, pulling me into another one-armed hug.
“Good, how are you?”
“Good. So this is Lucy?” He reaches forward, lightly brushing his pinky along her knuckles.
She stares at him inquisitively, but doesn’t back down. Ada, on the other hand, shies back into Charles’ arms as Arthur grins at her. Hurt flashes over Arthur’s face and my chest pangs at the action. I should’ve thought about the girls’ reactions to eventually meeting Charles’ family when I decided to never introduce them to him. I just never thought about these things.
“Looks like you should’ve trained her better,” one of the women comments.
“She’s a toddler, not a dog, Charlotte,” Charles tries to appear like he’s joking but his tone is tense.
“Dinner’s ready,” Pascale calls out before an argument begins.
The other girl introduces herself to me on the way to the dining room as Carla, Arthur’s girlfriend, while Charlotte is Lorenzo’s girlfriend.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know if the girls used a special kind of booster seat so I just got whatever they had at the store,” Pascale apologizes to me.
“Oh no, these work perfectly fine. You didn’t have to buy these for us,” I tell her.
“Nonsense, now we have them for the next time they come,” she smiles at me.
I smile back, turning to face Charles as he places a hand on my back. “I can get our plates if you want to get the girls situated.”
I nod, helping the girls settle into their seats. Charles gets the plates ready for Ada, Lucy, me, and himself, and we settle around the table with the rest of his family.
“So Y/N, Charles says that you’re studying journalism,” Arthur makes conversation as we eat.
“Yeah, I am.”
“When are you done studying?”
“I actually fast-tracked my program so I’m graduating next year,” I inform them.
“Do you know what you’re doing after you graduate?” Carla questions.
“I’d like to work in true crime journalism.”
I know it’s just small talk, but this kind of feels like an interrogation. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to being asked about my life, or having adult conversations at all, but it feels like they’re trying to figure me out. Which I understand, because I’ve become a crucial figure in Charles’ life, but it doesn’t make me any less nervous.
“Do you know where?”
Arthur asks the question that makes me understand. They’re not trying to catch me saying something that they don’t like, they’re trying to bring me further into Charles’ life. Part of it is probably for Charles’ benefit, and the other part is probably because they want to see Ada and Lucy more as well.
My heart soars at that thought.
“I haven’t thought about that yet,” I admit.
“Well, you should. As a mother you should plan,” Charlotte comments snottily.
“Being a mother makes it harder to plan,” I joke.
Everyone laughs except Charlotte, who gives me a glare.
We make small talk throughout the rest of dinner and I feel myself calming down and becoming more comfortable. Ada and Lucy become more comfortable as well, leaving with Charlotte, Carla, Charles, Lorenzo, and Arthur to go out on the balcony and watch the sunset.
“I can help you cleanup, Pascale,” I offer, bringing dirty dishes into the kitchen.
“You’re such a dear,” she sighs in relief.
She begins to wash the dishes in the sink as I stand by with a dishcloth to dry.
“I know Charlotte was rude towards you tonight but just ignore it. Charles was very upset when he first found out about the girls and she never got over that reaction, no matter how many times he told us that your relationship is better now,” she reassures me.
I nod weakly, not sure how to respond to that. I feel bad thinking it, but I don’t know how it’s any of Charlotte’s business. From what I gathered during dinner, Charlotte and Lorenzo’s relationship is fairly new, so it’s not like she’s known Charles for such a long time that his emotions greatly affect hers. But even then… if Charles could find a way to get over it, why couldn’t she? And why would she constantly feel the need to comment her negative feelings about it, especially in front of our daughters?
“Look at that,” Pascale laughs, staring out the window towards the balcony where Lorenzo holds Ada in his arms, playing got-your-nose with her while she watches in wonder.
It’s a sweet moment between an uncle and his niece. But it reminds me of all of the moments that I’ve robbed from them. And it’s not like they were feeling love and affection from my side of the family either- so for almost two years they’ve been neglected from feeling grandparent and aunt or uncle love. They could be running into Lorenzo or Arthur’s arms instead of just meeting them for the first time.
Tears prick in my eyes at the thought.
“I’m sorry, Pascale,” my voice cracks.
She turns to face me with concern, face breaking once she sees mine. “Oh, darling.”
The facet turns off and she dries her hands, pulling me into a hug. My arms wind around her tightly and I hug her, appreciating the feeling of a motherly hug for as long as I can.
“I know you are,” she reassures me, rubbing my back. “I also know how much you’ve changed and grown. Charles tells these stories about you and his face just lights up. You’ve made mistakes, yes, but his admiration for has never and will never fade. In fact, seeing you as a mother has made it grow.”
I stare at her with wide eyes. Charles admires me? I guess I kind of knew that already from him not bringing up the custody conversation anymore, but I’ve never actually had any confirmation about it. But hearing it from his mom… it must be true.
“I’ll never hurt him again, Pascale, I swear,” I whisper to her.
“I believe you.”
She pulls away from me, going back to washing the dishes. I dry them and we talk about everything and anything. We talk about Lando’s successful season, I sway her away from asking about the rest of my family, then I ask her about the latest haircut trends.
By the end of the night, I’m carrying a sleeping Ada in my arms as Charles carries a sleeping Lucy, shoes and sweatshirts on so we can head back over to Charles’ flat for the night.
“Do you want to do a family beach day tomorrow?” Arthur suggests.
I smile at him. “That sounds fun.”

Punch At First Sight

It was meant to be an easy case.
A couple of type ones haunting an abandoned building just outside of London. The local ghost hunters had all created that big of a myth they had scared themselves away. And the cost of a Fittes agent was too high of a price for the type of ghosts they had. So, Lockwood and Co were the business chosen.
Only, it would have been nice to know if one of the previous agents had reached out to an old friend to take care of the job as well.
But, no.
Instead, whilst listening out for the ghosts, Lockwood stepped around a corner and when getting ready to attack what he thought was a ghost, he was met with a punch to the face and then a voice calling out; “Oh my god, you’re human.”
“Do you make a habit of punching ghosts?”
Then, through watered eyes, he saw the outline of the person who had punched him and it seemed she had clear enough vision in the dark to recognise him.
“Lockwood?”
“Wait.” he knew that voice. “Y/n?”
“Holy crap. I am so sorry. Are you okay? Wait. Why are you even here?”
“The same as you, I’m guessing. Unless you tend to sneak into abandoned buildings at two in the morning.”
“Sophie didn’t even tell me they hired someone else. Are you sure you’re alright?”
Lockwood managed to stand up straight this time just as Lucy and George came running round the corner.
“We heard a scream.”
“What’s going on?”
George looked from Lockwood to you. “Y/n?”
“Hi, George.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Nice to see you, too.”
“She was hired.” Lockwood explained just before Lucy spotted him.
“Holy crap, are you okay?”
Lockwood nodded. “Just a little stunned.”
“I really am sorry.”
“We really have to stop meeting like this.” Lockwood said, with a slight smile as he looked at you.
Then came a scream.
“Considering we’re all here and considering no-one else was hired to do this job-” George began.
“That wasn’t a human.” Lucy finished.
“And since we’re here with minimal weapons.”
One of the ghosts, a woman, came floating through a wall and turned to look at them.
“Run?” you offered.
“Run.” Lucy replied.
Making a break for it, you all tried to outrun the ghost before another one of her friends joined her, pushing all four of you down a different corridor.
“I’m Lucy, by the way.”
“Y/n. Nice to meet you.”
“You, too.”
By the time the sun was beginning to rise over the city, you all made it back to Portland Row where a fresh bruise had made its way to decorate Lockwood’s face.
“You have a hell of a punch.” Lockwood said before prodding his own bruise in his reflection of the pan on the stove.
You chuckled, pulling a bag of peas from the freezer before closing it and walking over. “Quit moaning. It could have been worse. Here.”
Standing, Lockwood seemed to have grown even taller than you. Taller than when you’d both last met.
Looking at you, you watched as his eyes closed at the cold contact of the bag as you pressed it to his face.
“Hold it there for a while. It should help with the swelling.”
“You know, we really need to stop meeting like this.”
You narrowed your gaze a little and clicked your tongue. “You’ve already used that line.”
“Have I?” Lockwood seemed to think for a moment before, “Oh, yeah. Suppose I have. But it is true.”
“Hey, the first time was an accident. I thought you were trying to-”
“The first time is an accident, three times is a pattern.”
You smiled sheepishly. “An accidental pattern.”
“Sure about that?”
“Yes.” you said before, “Maybe? Can never be too careful when hunting alone.”
Lockwood’s demeanour changed for a moment. “Alone? You’re hunting alone again?”
“Relax. I’m safe enough.”
You moved backwards and began to tidy the kitchen a little to give yourself something to do whilst Lockwood leaned back against the kitchen counter, lowering the frozen bag from his face so he could watch you more closely.
“Are you?”
“Yes, Lockwood. I’m fine. Honestly, you don’t have to worry about me.”
“Doesn’t mean I won’t.”
You held his gaze for a moment, a million thoughts running through your head until it landed on He’s just a friend…
From there, you shifted yourself from the kitchen table and placed the empty glasses in your hand in the sink beside him.
“Move here.”
“What?”
Lockwood stood tall once more and turned to face you properly. “Move in here. Lucy got a deal when she bought her bed, so she’s got a second one spare. We can set it up on the other side of the loft. I don’t like the thought of you hunting alone.”
“Lockwood, I said I’m fine.”
“What happens if something happens to you? Look, I can put you on the payroll so it won’t be a favour. You’ll be working with us. And you’ll have a team behind you. You’ll also be safe. Please.”
“Lockwood-”
“Please.”
Looking up at him, you saw the desperation in his eyes.
It wasn’t often he opened himself up or let himself show any kind of vulnerability but when he did…
“Okay. Fine. But you can’t hover over me.”
“I don’t hover.”
“You hover.”
“No I don’t.”
“Why did George kick you out of the Archive room in the last case we were in together?”
Lockwood thought back and when he didn’t answer, you answered for him.
“Because you hover.”
“Okay, maybe I hover a little.”
“But before anything is written, the others have to agree. Lucy, too.”
“She will. I know so. It’ll be nice for her to not be outnumbered.”
You moved in three days later.
Lucy had prepared the spare bed for you and even decorated the walls behind your bed with a couple of pictures she found in some old boxes that had yourself, George and Lockwood in them.
“I didn’t know what you’d want to do, but I thought I would do something to help at least.”
“I love it.” you smiled, dropping one of the boxes onto your bed. “Thank you.”
Over the following week, yourself and Lucy got to know one another, sharing stories late into the night when researching cases and in desperate need of a break.
Lucy came to learn what Lockwood meant by the punch when you all met not being the first time. You came to find out what brought Lucy to London. And you both came to discover that, with the right planning, you could both scare Lockwood and George.
Only, one night, George and Lucy decided to tag team which also gave them a chance to talk about you and Lockwood.
“Do they know? They have to know.”
“Don’t bother.” George sighed. “Three years and nothing has changed.”
“They’ve been like that for three years?”
George just nodded.
“Seriously?”
“You know I walked into the kitchen yesterday and they were slow dancing in the kitchen and…it was like nothing happened.”
“Yeah…”
“What?”
“What?” Lucy asked.
“Your face. You have that…look.”
“What look?”
“The “I’m making a plan” face.”
“Maybe because I am.”
“Well then?”
“What if we tried?”
“I already have.”
“Maybe,” Lucy nodded. “But that was then. Now you’ve got me. Tag-team. What do you say?”
“Well, considering it would take an earthquake to wake them both up from whatever coma they’ve convinced themselves that they’re in…sure. Why not? But how.”
“I haven’t got that far into the plan yet.”
But it didn’t take too long.
After six months of living with each other, the plan practically made itself. The chemistry between yourself and Lockwood was palpable and even more so when you were outside together.
Like when you and Lockwood were in the library with George and Lucy where Lockwood was standing behind you, reading the section of paper you were pointing to, his arms caging you in from where you sat, when a group of Fittes Agents waltzed over.
“You might want to give your girlfriend a little breathing room, Tony. After all, PDA can be off putting especially in such a public place.”
Standing, and not denying it, Lockwood practically burned Kipps a hole in the ground for him to fall through.
“Relax, Tony. Just having a little fun. So, are you going to introduce me to your girlfriend?”
“I’m not his girlfriend.”
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
Kipps couldn’t help but widen his smile. “You’re not. Well then, Tony.”
However, you were up like a shot standing beside Lockwood. “But I would be very careful in your next choice of words. He might not be my boyfriend but he is my friend.”
Closer up, Kipps seemed to recognise you. Or at least, that’s what his face told you.
“You know, for all the people in the world, I wouldn't have considered one of the best rogue agents being best buddies with our very own Anthony Lockwood.”
“And why not?”
“Although, rogue is very fitting for Tony. After all, it was breaking the rules that got him into trouble in the first place. Sweetheart, if I were you, I’d walk away whilst you still can.”
The only thing anyone could remember was hearing the contact of your palm across Kipps’ cheek and the red mark left in its place.
“Fuck you.”
It took a moment to get over the shock before Kipps and his team walked away and you relaxed a little before grabbing your jacket and telling the others you’d be back.
“Are you-”
“I’m fine, Lockwood. I’ll be back in five.”
It was in those five minutes that one of Kipps’ team found you by the vending machine.
“I’m sorry about what he said.”
“Why? You didn’t say it. And I’m guessing you’re assigned to be with him.”
“Still, I could have said something to stop him and I didn’t.”
“Something tells me even if you did, he still would have said it anyway.”
“Maybe.”
“What’s your name?”
“Victor.”
“Nice to meet you,Victor.”
Meanwhile, across the room and up a level, Lucy spotted you talking to Victor. Even laughing every once in a while. And when Lockwood joined her, she saw the pain in his eyes before a brick wall came up.
“We should be getting ready. George found something. I’ll be back in a minute.”
For the rest of the day, Lockwood seemed closed up. Especially towards you.
“What is your problem?” you eventually asked him.
“Nothing.”
“Lockwood, I heard you snap at Lucy earlier.”
“She made a mistake.”
“Exactly,” you cut him off. “A mistake. And she’s never made one before.”
“One that could have put one of us in serious danger-”
“We were outside the perimeter.” You could have laughed, until Lockwood asked you a question you weren't expecting.
“Do you like him?”
“Who?”
“The guy you were talking to earlier.”
“Kipps? You did see me slap him, didn’t you-”
“Not Kipps. Vinny. Or Vincent or…whatever his name is.”
You thought back for a moment. “Victor.”
Lockwood nodded.
“Do I like him? What are we? 12?”
“Just answer the question.”
“Why?”
“Because I need to know if you’re fraternising with the enemy.”
You laughed. “Fraternizing?”
But when Lockwood didn’t change, you did.
“You know what, fuck you, Lockwood. What I do with my time outside of work is no concern to you. You know what, do this yourself. I’ll go and help George.”
A few minutes later, Lucy walked inside the room to a very grumpy Lockwood.
“What the hell did you do? Fraternising? This isn’t Bridgerton, Lockwood.”
“Will you just help with the set-up?”
Sighing, Lucy did as she was told, but not before telling Lockwood a couple things he desperately needed to hear.
“You’re gonna lose her.”
“What?”
Picking up some of the iron chains and laying them down, Lucy explained. “It might not be Victor, but one day it will be someone. And it probably won’t be long before they come along and whisk her away from your grumpy arse because you’re too stubborn to tell her the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That you like her. Love her, even. If my gut feeling is right. And it usually is.”
“Lucy-”
“Look, you can go on being an arsehole because you’re scared. Or you can talk to her. All I’m saying is do something about it before somebody else does. Both me and George have seen the way you look at her. It’s more than you want to admit, Lockwood. But one day you’re going to have to, or else you are going to lose her and all you’ll have is a bruised eye and a broken nose once every couple of years, if that.”
Lucy didn’t say anything else after that but Lockwood did apologise for snapping at her earlier which she forgave him for after calling him a frustrating bastard. From then, she watched as you all completed the job together and that look that she often saw in Lockwood’s eyes, returned when he looked at you.
Yet, by the time you had all gotten home, he still hadn't apologised to you. So, with a hard nudge from Lucy, Lockwood finally made his way to find you.
“Do something before somebody else does, and that includes apologising. And she’s in the Library. Goodnight.”
Lockwood stood outside of the Library door for a while, trying his best to find the right words so he wouldn’t end up with a broken nose, despite how much he probably deserved one.
You had lit the fire to try and cancel out the cold that had seeped in through a forgotten open window, and if you didn’t know any better, you would have thought it was midnight, not 6 in the morning.
“Hey.”
Looking behind you, you tried your best not to roll your eyes at Lockwood as he walked inside.
“I’m just looking over some old cases. Just so you know that I’m not fraternising with the enemy by reading a book.”
“I shouldn’t have said it like that.” Lockwood began. “I shouldn’t have said it at all. I just…I guess I panicked.”
“That’s a bullshit excuse and you know it.”
“You’re right. And I’m sorry.”
You looked at him.
“Really, really sorry. For the fraternising comment and the bullshit excuse.”
You took a minute and it was the longest minute of his life.
“Okay, guess I can forgive you.”
“I’m still sorry.”
“I know, that’s why I forgave you. But a cup of tea wouldn’t hurt.”
Lockwood smiled. “Okay. One tea coming up.”
Only, as he walked away, you answered his question.
“And I’m not…fraternising with the enemy. Victor and I were just talking. I think you’d like him. I think he might hate Kipps just as much as you do. And, no.” you shook your head. “I don’t like him. Just so you know…”
Lockwood nodded and for a moment, turned to walk away until Lucy’s words echoed again in his head.
“Do something about it, before somebody else does.”
So he did.
Sighing under his breath, he took the jump, turned around and reached for you.
Taking your head in his hands, he cupped your jaw before bringing your lips to his. At first, it shocked you and for a split second, he thought he was about to get his nose broken for good this time.
Until you kissed back.
You felt yourself stumble a little but Lockwood caught you, holding you close to him before his forehead came to touch yours, your eyes still closed.
“Wow.”
“I’m sorry but I just had to-”
You shook your head, “Don’t apologise.”
“No?”
You couldn’t help but smile. “No.”
“So you’re not going to break my nose.”
“Not this time,” you laughed a little.
“Okay…then I’m gonna jump. I like you. Well, I more than like you. Like way, way more. And I…I want to do something about it before someone else does.”
“Like Victor?”
“Yeah,” Lockwood laughed a little. “Like Victor.”
“Then…good. I’m glad you finally jumped.”
“You are.”
You nodded. “I mean, you have terrible timing but yeah, I’m glad you jumped.”
“Good.”
“Good. Now, are you gonna kiss me again or am I gonna have to-”
Lockwood didn’t need telling twice.

Chapter 0.0 | Two Time Zones Apart
The sound of LA traffic was not great, but it was definitely quieter than the sound of the streets of New York. It's only been 6 Months since I moved to LA semi-permanently. I still got homesick often but there was no place like California. Ever since the transition from being a model to a singer it was a choice I had to make, with mom and dads approval of course, even if it meant seeing Lucy and Jackie less.
"Oh Gosh. What time is it?" I grumbled as I rubbed my eyes. I looked towards my bedside table and picked up my phone. "10:30 AM" I removed the bed covers and stretched my arms over my head. The smell of my room always gave me some comfort in the mornings. I headed to the restroom and pulled my hair into a bun and turned the faucet on. I started washing my teeth when I heard my phone ringing. I ran back to my room to pick up my phone that was lying on the bed. A video call from Jackie. I quickly pick up the phone as I walk back to the bathroom.
"Juswt whun sewkand-" I attempted to say with the tooth brush still in my mouth. Jackie let out a quick laugh, "take your time Eid." I put my finger up, just one moment, and place the phone in front of the faucet handles, holding it up. I quickly rinse out the toothpaste and splashed my face with water to ensure I would fully wake myself up.
"Hi Jacks! How's it going?" I waved and picked up my phone.
"EDEN! It's going so well! I can't wait for you and Lucy to come home today! I missed you guys so much." Jackie smiled softly.
"Oh my, we haven't been away from you that longgggg" I teased as i sat down on my Vanity. I panned my phone to the stack of luggage by my window.
"Okay I know, BUT, I just missed you guys so much." She sighed. "It's been a month since I've seen you and Lucy. I'm just so excited for you to see my excellent work tonight."
"I know Jacks, My flight is at 2 so I'll probably be there by 7-ish." I start applying my makeup and look away from my phone. " and plus Lucy will be there sooner than me, so you'll get her while you wait for meeee."
She laughs, "Right, what would I do without your wisdom." She stays quiet for a couple of seconds, "How's your new song going?"
I wince, "It's going..." She looks at me confused. "I've just been lacking in inspiration lately. I'm hoping going home will help with that."
"I'm sure you'll get a spark of inspiration once you spend some good old fashioned time at the ballet with me."
"Thanks Jackie, I've missed you guys so much. I can't wait to get there tonight."
I stop to think. "Dinner at The Penrose?"
I look at her smile, "of course Eden! That's our spot."
"All right deal" I look at the time, 11:30AM, "All right sis, I have to head to the airport, see you soon!" I reach over to hang up, "wait! Remember mom and dad will pick you up later tonight so we can all go to dinner together."
"Okay, perfect! Bye Jacks, love you!"
"Bye Eids!" I hung up.
I start getting up and shutting the curtains. It might be a while until I'm back but I'd rather keep my room clean.
Ding Dong.
I head over to the front door that smells strongly of oak. Walking past the pictures I have hanging of Mom, Dad, Lucy, Jackie and I. I open the door and smile as I see the face of my amazing Manager, Lizzie. "Liz! Come to say goodbye to your favorite client." I giggled as she stepped in. "Excuse me! Not just my client, more like my favorite friend!" I hug her and drag her to my room.
"Oh gosh, look at all this baggage..." she exclaims standing in front of my suitcases. She reaches over and picks one up. "Alright Eden! Let's get moving and load these into the car, your driver is waiting."
I look over to her and smile, "You got it boss!" I salute. It was an easy load up and we wasted no time getting in the car. "Are you excited to see your family again?" Lizzie asked. "Yeah I'm a bit nervous though. I haven't seen them in a couple of months, I feel like I've missed out on a lot." It was hard being apart from them and not being able to see them as often as I used to.
Lizzie looks at me and smiles softly, her polished nails and her soft hands reach over to mine. She grabs them and turns to me. "E, you need this. You've been homesick for a while and I think this trip will help you with the new song." I lean my head back against the headrest and turn my face to look out of the window. "I know Liz." I turn back towards her. "Thank you for helping me today. It means a lot. I'll miss you lots."
She just smiles at me and I start feeling tired, car rides always seem to wear me out. I take one last look at the highway we're on and slowly close my eyes. I let sleep take over me and an oddly weird feeling at the pit of my stomach. I hear Liz whisper, "I'll wake you when we get there."

The Obey Me characters at MC’s Latino/Hispanic Party 🫠
Tumblr media
A/N: Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!!¡¡!¡ I am not sorry for this. The only thing I’m sorry for is my grammar. Remember this is joke, okay? ùwú
Word Count: 625 words (I think, idk, didn’t count)
TLDR: just read the title, man xD
Tumblr media
-Lucifer be talking with MC’s relatives, eating his pan con cafésito; probably telling them about how much his pendejo brothers don’t let him sleep at night. But also, he unintentionally brags about them cuz he loves them so damn much.
-Mammon be gambling with some of the drunk tiós; probably playin Lotería or somthn. He’s gonna lose, of course, and they’re gonna trash talk him but he speaks fluent Spanish so he’s gonna tire himself out and have nothing left. He’s gonna have to ask your abuelita for some dinero.
-Leviathan is playing video games with the primos who like anime, then he’s gonna realize interaction with people is a pain and he’s gonna lock himself in the room where someone’s baby is randomly sleeping.
-Satan tried learning some Spanish before coming to the party, but then he realized Lucifer is fluent af, now he tryna hunt Luci down with the piñata bat, jejeje. Then he’s gonna get drunk with the cool primos… drunk to the point where he’ll be fluent by morning.
-Asmodeus be dancing to Shakira and Daddy Yankee, and probably get concerning stares from your religious abuela telling you he needs el amor de Cristo. He probably gonna flirty with the tiás and brag about you being his amor. (he just learned how to say “te amo,” and he tryna find you… he drunk too)
-Beelzebub ate eveything he ate the pozole, y los tácitos, y los tamales, y las pupusas, y las empanadas… el come de todo. El taquero is probably tired of seeing him and he keeps asking the relatives what each food is called and how to make it.
-Belphegor tomando siestas con el bebe y con Levi porque interaction is painful. Actually, he was with Beel earlier, and he takes note of the food Beel eats so both of them can find the recipes when they get home… if they actually do go home…
-Diavolo talks to all the relatives, like all of them, he says goodbye to all of them when it’s time to leave too. He probably is the drunk tío. Also, he speaks fluent Spanish. He probably plays games with the family and plays with los primitos too. Lord Diavolo doesn’t exist anymore; he’s Señor Diavolo now.
-Barbatos be helping in the kitchen making the food that the family is gonna eat (Beel too). Family be impressed, he makes some good ass food and knows damn well that Dia is gonna demand Hispanic human food to be served at RAD. He’s got the hands that perfectly shape las tortillas, people be impressed. (Also, he says sí mi Señor cuz mega lul)
-Luke is playing with los primitos, he got on the jumper, hit the piñata, and he had some pan dulce con leche. Then he got tired, and he be laying, stomach down on the couch or some random room waiting to leave. (Luke was the baby in that room btw jeje)
-Simeon also be helping the the kitchen, making the sweet stuff and preparing the coffee. 100% got along with your religious abuela; oradon y hablaron a sus vidas porque Simeon es un abuelo también. Your family loves him the most, probably, next to Luci and Barb.
-Solomon speaks fluent Spanish… cuz there’s a spell that makes him do that. He talked to some relatives, he probably scared your religious abuela con la brujería. Simeon and Barb kept him out of the kitchen. He’s just vibin tbh, probably sitting with you as you watch your demon/angel harem interact with your familia.
MC (tu 🫵🏽) is watching your demon/angel harem interact with your familia. Also, you comforting the sleepy boys telling them, “si ya vamos, solo un poquito mas…”

Little Bird • England Lionesses
Tumblr media
By popular demand...
Request: “Can we have a second part of Rio Manuela? Maybe during one of the World Cup matches she tears her ACL, all of the Barcelona and Lionesses present both on the pitch and on the benches. They all want to get rid of the painful scream they heard when their little sister went down on the pitch, Lucy, Ale and Leah trying to keep her calm”
Part 1 Rio Manuela
Part 3 Where’s Rio?
Word count: 1,7k
2023, August 16, Wednesday, 7:55 pm is when you first set foot on the pitch of Stadium Australia. You step onto the pitch with a proud smile on your face as you walk behind Lauren Hemp for the lineups.
Standing with your hand over your heart, you let your eyes scan the crowd as you soak in the feeling of being here at the Women’s world cup. You have made it. You sing along to the anthem as you watch the English fans do the same and for a moment your smile falters.
You knew she wouldn’t come, she never has. Yet, for some reason you couldn’t help but glance towards the family section in the stands, hoping to see your mother smiling back at you. But she wasn’t here, instead Amanda, Leah’s mum waves at you with a grin and you nod back at her with a grin of your own.
After the Euro’s your name has been one of the many that were now extremely well-known and popular in football talks, not only women’s football. You have continued to show your best football after the tournament with Barcelona and you have shown your continuous skill development on the national level, already winning two player of the match awards in this world cup.
You got your first one in the second matchday of the tournament against Denmark where you had scored two goals and assisted another one. Your other trophy had been handed to you at the end of your game against Canada, one goal and one assist.
Your teammates knew that the diversity of the supporting crowd had been because of all of your performances. There were many fans, not English, not US fans, who were now rooting for either of the teams and as the camera pans around the stadium you also recognize some other countries national players in the stands.
Passing by Leah and Georgia you give both of them a high five and a pat to the back. As you stand in your position, waiting for the referee to start the match, you have a nice stare down with some of the USWNT players.
This semi-final was seen a revenge game for your last world cup against them, a rematch of sorts. You knew, your teammates knew and the US players knew as well.
The whole world had been waiting for this. To see if the United States could once again defeat England in the semi-finals and to see if the English could hold their ground, even after the Euros.
But you were confident, confident in yourself and your girls. And you prove that to the world.
The first goal of the match was delivered in the 20th minute, almost the same as in 2019. This time though it’s thanks to yours and Georgia’s chemistry that England are leading. However, you go into half-time with a 1-1 scoreboard, but you’re still happy as ever, excitedly waving at Mapi and Alexia who sit in the stands with the Barcelona girls.
Noticing you, your club teammates instantly start your chant and are soon accompanied by a lot of the fans around them. You only laugh at that, though the blush on your cheeks is hard to miss.
You sit close to Lucy in the locker room despite your jersey numbers not coming after one another and you lean into her as Sarina and Leah start their speech.
“Well done girls, great first half out there! We’re going to change up a little bit though, subs in. I also expect you all to show the world what we have been practicing at training. I know you can do it, you’ve all played exceptionally well this whole world cup, but remember to also enjoy every moment of it, all right?” Sarina finishes up her team talk by telling who she’d be subbing in and Leah starts talking.
She has that focused look on her face, tunnel vision as all she can think about is winning this thing. Winning the 2023 world cup and taking it home.
Similar to your awarded matches you score a goal, a goal that is once again worth getting named the goal of the match. Running past Becky Sauerbrunn, you call for the ball from Mead who chips it your way.
With Sarina’s words running through your head you attempt the bicycle whirl and the ball goes soaring through the air in an overhead goal. The stadium erupts in cheering and for a second you’re sure you’ve gone deaf.
Somehow it’s Leah who reaches you first and she lifts you into the air, screaming your name. You laugh because it’s the only thing you can do, if you wouldn’t be laughing, you’d probably be crying instead after such a beautiful goal. And in a world cup semi-final.
Nevertheless, that thought soon changes as you scream into the grass twenty minutes later. Your team had been creating another goal chance in the 83’ minute of the match and you had just received the ball from Alessia. You were sandwiched between two US players.
You had outplayed one but as you go to move the ball from one feet to the other, your leg gets twisted in an uncomfortable angle. You think you’ll be okay, that is until milliseconds later Mal Pugh’s knee knocks into the side of your own and you fall to the ground with a painful wail.
The whistle is blown not long after as the referee stops the game. To you it’s all in slow motion as the crowd raises from their seats, Alexia almost tripping over her own legs as she panics. It’s like a scene from Baywatch as Lucy and Leah take their sprint towards you, but it’s slow.
To you it looks like everything has been slowed down.
It was the exact opposite of how everyone else around you was feeling. It happened so fast, in a matter of seconds. One moment you were dribbling past the US players and next your body gave out.
Your screaming is something your teammates are sure would haunt them forever. You’re screaming, sobbing into the turf as you clutch your knee, nails gripping at the skin of your thigh.
You barely notice that the blonde is next to you until you feel her hand on your back. Then Lucy peels your hands off from your leg, afraid you’d hurt yourself and instead holds them in her own. Hoping you’d find some comfort in squeezing her hands.
Leah is trying to comfort you as well but it’s a challenge for her to form any coherent words as she swallows her tears. The Barca girls in the stands are all up on their feet, holding onto the railing tightly and you’re sure Alexia would be jumping over the barrier without a second thought if it wasn’t for Mapi and Patri holding her back.
By the time the medics arrive onto the field, you’re banging your freed hand on the turf before Lucy again takes a hold of it. You wither in pain as you’re placed on the stretcher.
You try to focus on Leah’s eyes as she moves the hair out of your face and wipes the grass off your cheek, but the look on her face doesn’t fool anyone. It was bad. The thought of that only makes you cry even more and Leah is quick to shush you.
“It will all be okay Rio, okay? I won’t let anything happen to you.” she’s pretty much sobbing as well and she knows but she doesn’t fight the tears this time. You nod at her, trying to believe her words and as you’re lifted off the ground and carried off the field the crowd applauds your performance.
You’re thankful for them, but in this moment you choose to keep your jersey firmly pulled over your head, you try to hide from the world, from the reality of this injury.
Hours later you’re sitting in your hospital bed after an immediate surgery on your knee. Arriving at the hospital it had been confirmed that you had torn your ACL, you wouldn’t be playing for a good bit.
Lucy is the first in your room, quickly followed by Leah and Georgia and they all watch you with tears in their eyes. You were staring into space no doubt replaying the injury in your head over and over again. Your line of thought is interrupted as you’re pulled into a hug by the three English players.
You cry together, they allow you to cry into their shoulders, but you know they’re crying too, the shake of their bodies and the wet patch on your own shoulders is enough evidence.
Eventually your teammates from the Spanish club arrive as well and an hour after you’re left alone in the room with Alexia. She’s pacing up and down, something you know you’d be doing right now if you were capable of it.
“Ale, come here please.” your words break her out of her marathon and she settles next to you in the small bed, aware of your injured knee.
You sit in silence for a bit, that is until she cups your cheek and turns you to look at her.
“I know you think that this is it, that this is the end of it for you. But it isn’t Rio, you’ll get back stronger than ever. And it won’t take you long, you know, I believe in you.” she tells you honestly. Her faith in you is what has you crying into her side softly and she holds you close, occasionally kissing the top of your head.
Eventually you tire yourself out, the game from earlier and the surgery taking its toll on you. You cuddle into Alexia, though stilling for a second as you figure out how to position your leg, before slowly exhaling in comfort.
Leah is back in the hospital room too now, and she watches with a soft smile as Alexia runs her fingers through your hair. The blonde also makes herself comfortable and holds onto your hand as you reach for her.
“Rest now, little bird.”

TBOSAS on Crack short take (61)
Lucy Gray: Hey, Panlo~.
Panlo: *ignores Lucy Gray*
Lucy Gray: Panlo? Panny? Pablo? Panpan? Panini? Peter Pan, don’t you ignore me-
Panlo: Go away, Baird!
Lucy Gray: You’re so funny. Do you want a cookie?😀
Panlo: I don’t want your bird food. Besides, my Mentor gave me 3 tuna sandwiches for breakfast earlier.
Lucy Gray: Gaius was here?
Panlo: Don’t you dare touch my Mentor, Baird. He’s mine.
Lucy Gray: No promises, but can we trade sandwiches?🥺
Panlo: You already ate all of your ham sandwiches. Now, shoo.
Lucy Gray: *suddenly leans closer and whispers* I still have their wrappings, Panpan~.
Panlo: What the heck are you whispering about?!
Lucy Gray: I can use these sandwich wrappers to strangle you in your sleep-
Panlo: Ew. No. Get those things away from me, you clown.
Lucy Gray: I’ll sing you a song-
Panlo: No.
Lucy Gray: I’ll sing it for free?
Panlo: I would rather sleep.
Lucy Gray: But why?😢
Panlo: Don’t give me that look, Baird.
Lucy Gray: But-
Panlo: You even bullied poor Jessup to give up and give you his daily bread and butter!
Lucy Gray: No, I didn’t.
Panlo: Yes, you did! Look! *points at Jessup*
Jessup: *is currently talking to a rabid raccoon* Mr. Raccoon, Mr. Raccoon, do you have some daily bread to spare?
Rabid Raccoon:. . .
Jessup: The evil rainbow bird stole my butter too, Mr. Raccoon.
Rabid Raccoon:. . .
Jessup: So you’ll help me?🥹
Rabid Raccoon:. . .
Jessup: Mr. Raccoon, Mr. Raccoon, you’re now my new best friend!
Panlo: That is not normal.
Lucy Gray: Coryo and Sejanus told me that talking to rabid raccoons and playing with feral squirrels are part of the Capitol’s culture and lifestyle-
Panlo: You do know that our Mentors are not mentally “all there” in the head, right?
Lucy Gray: It’s part of their culture, Pablo!
Panlo: I beg to differ-
Lucy Gray: Don’t ignore my Mentor’s heritage!
Panlo: Talking to a garbage loving rat-dog creature is not normal!
Lucy Gray: Stop bullying poor Festus Creed, Pablo!
Panlo: I was talking about the rabid raccoons!
Lucy Gray: Panini, Jessup is fine! He’s a coal miner! He ate 15 slices of vanilla pudding yesterday-
Panlo: That’s not the point!
Lucy Gray: What point?
Panlo: You’re just like that little gremlin over there!
Lucy Gray: No, I’m not-
Mizzen: *is still tied up* I’ll get my revenge, you sea witch!
Coral: Mizzen, shut up-
Mizzen: Just you wait! My Percy Price and I will takeover the pizza industry and rule Panem with my cheesy crust recipe!
Coral: You don’t even cook!
Panlo: *turns to Lucy Gray* Do you want to end up like Mizzen?
Lucy Gray: But I want to eat tuna!
Panlo: You even drank Lamina’s orange juice a minute ago.
Lucy Gray: So?
Panlo: It was 2 gallons, Baird! 2 freaking gallons!
Lamina: My orange juice!😭
Lucy Gray: Lammy cries all the time-
Panlo: Because of you!
Lucy Gray: And Mizzen!
Panlo: You’re not even denying it!
Lucy Gray: Don’t be such a sore loser, Panini-
Panlo: Don’t call me that.
Lucy Gray: Panini.
Panlo: I’m going to sleep-
Lucy Gray: Panini, feed me!
Panlo: Then ask Coral and her gremlin!
Lucy Gray: No! She’s going to bully me again!😭
Panlo: Then steal something from Brandy!
Lucy Gray: Heck, no! I don’t want to get bitten!
Panlo: Brandy doesn’t bite.
Lucy Gray: Yes, she does! Look! *points at Brandy*
Brandy: *is biting Tanner’s new shoes for no reason*
Tanner: Brandy, stop chewing my expensive boots! Domitia gave them to me as a gift!
Brandy: *growls at Tanner* Mine!
Tanner: Get your own shoe!
Lucy Gray: *turns to Panlo* She might have that “werewolf” disease-
Panlo: That doesn’t exist!
Lucy Gray: The werewolf disease is not a myth, Panini! Coryo and Festus told me all about it!
Panlo: Then ask Wovey!
Lucy Gray: Wovey will bully me too!
Panlo: She’s a sweet child!
Lucy Gray: She ain’t sweet to me!
Wovey: That’s what you get for eating my apple berry pie without asking me first, Birdy.😊
Lucy Gray: I already said that I was so sorry, Wovey!
Wovey: Then give me my pie back.
Lucy Gray: *turns to Panlo* Help me, Panpan!
Panlo: For the last time-
Lucy Gray: Help your poor struggling sister-
Panlo: You’re not my sister!
Lucy Gray: Fine! I’ll tell Gaius that you’re secretly in love with him!
Panlo: What?! No, I’m not! Gaius is like a brother to me!
Lucy Gray: You want him to be your boyfriend?! Oh, that’s so sweet of you, Panini!
Panlo: I never said that!
Lucy Gray: Then give me your tuna sandwiches!
Panlo: Give me back my hair curlers first, you clown!
Lucy Gray: *giggles* Lol. No.
Panlo: Then go bother Treech the Leech instead!
Lucy Gray: Ok! *turns to Treech* Hi, Bestie~!😘
Treech: No! Go away! I’m allergic to rainbow colored birds!
Lucy Gray: Treech the leech~!
Treech: *runs and climbs a tree*
Lucy Gray: I can climb trees too!
Treech: Get away from me!
Lucy Gray: Give me your sandwiches!
Treech: Never, you beast!
Panlo: Well, time to sleep-
Brandy: Yo, Pablo!
Panlo: Ugh! What do you want now?!
Brandy: Can I bite your shoes?🥺
Panlo: Be gone, werewolf!

Note
do you have any book recommendations? pls i need lots 💙💙
this is such a loaded question friend. but lucky for u, i am procrastinating assignments, my take out has yet to arrive, and i just finished another book!
horror fic has been my choice for the last several books
the centre by ayesha manazir siddiqi is about a young Pakistani woman living in the UK. she's a translator for Urduru films. language and translation are central to this book. people are becoming fluent in a matter of weeks in complex languages.... the centre is gorgeous if not entirely mysterious, magical even. but whats the catch?? beautifully written. vivid details. anisa is a flawed, honest, and genuine feeling mc, as are the people in her life. i just finished it a couple hours ago n i miss my girls.
slewfoot by brom is set in 17th century Connecticut. our protag, Abitha, is not from this town but she does he best to adhere to the Puritan standards, if not for her well being, than that of her husband's. something stirs in the outskirts of the village, in the forest and beyond. she finds help from an unlikely source while also fostering a deep inner power of her own. these characters felt so well thought out, the writing is magnetic and the action is well paced. it puts so many preconceived notions right on their head. i loved this book and can't wait to read brom's other novel, the child thief, a retelling of peter pan and the lost boys!
sister, maiden, monster by lucy a. synder was oh so gay and oh so cosmically horrendous. this is like h.p. lovecraft wasn't a weird racist. this is like if biblically accurate angels were once just women in love. this is horrifying, visceral, and relevant to our COVID world. i was gawking at so many of the details. there are so many monster themes actually, it's perfect. the story is told through 3 povs of 3 different women. and we love women! and horror! i didn't expect to pick this one up but I'm so glad i did.
mary: an awakening of terror by nat cassidy do u know what it's like to be virtually invisible? forgotten? disaffected? do u know the pure joy of having a precious collection, adding to it over time, and it being almost ur only reason for living anymore?? then you're a lot like mary. and mary is a lot like plenty of women who get the chance to live beyond adolescence, who are cast out by society-- deemed invaluable. mary is utterly lost at a time in her life she feels she should have it all figured out. she goes back to her hometown, an ambiguous small town in the middle of the desert, and some unlikely characters help her piece things back together. i finished this book feeling so close to mary. we are friends now. there is mystique, horror, fables, myths, bad guys, mysterious architecture, and well mary is not the most reliable narrator. loved this one too.
the last house on needless street by catriona ward i had no idea where this book was going and i loved piecing the narrative together through several characters and their povs. it forces u to confront ur own biases regarding mental health. u are sympathetic to the characters in the most painful, heart wrenching ways. there is murder. there is mystery. there is missing children. there are cats. this book surprised me and it was fun to have to find a couple reddit threads to be sure i was understanding the story correctly. i felt like i read this kind of fast! which is always fun too.
brother by ania ahlborn this one pissed me off a bit. but in a good way because i was so deeply invested. this one is set in Appalachia. i'm not one for stereotypes, especially bc i think Appalachians have a bad rep and it's of no fault of their own. that being said, the insular feel of the book and the absolute claustrophobia those mountains create in this story were like a character in it of itself. our protag, michael, knows there's something beyond. he's seen them on colorful postcards. but his own mind and his own heart seem utterly trapped here. this one is heartbreaking. it's horrifying. and it'll make u dizzy from the amount of times u change ur mind. excited to read her other novel, Seed, because this one stuck with me so much!
a couple honorable mentions that fit the theme:
the vegetarian by han kang korean food. infidelity. art. nightmares. inexplicable mindfucks! this story was scary because it felt very.. possible? no monsters this time. no spells. just... the mind deteriorating. could happen to any of us.
a certain hunger by chelsea g. summers what if girlbossing is just a quick pivot from sociopathy?? what if the crimes are so much more gratifying than say, fame or fortune or even love?? women can be sociopaths too, you know!! this one is fun bc the protag is crazy and it's fun to slip into these characters. cathartic even. omg did i mention, she's a foodie too! just like me :-)

Quick Drabble based around an ask from the lovely roaringinthedeep💖
Hope you like it 😂
Tumblr media
“He’s going to say no”
“Noooooo really Kyle? What makes you think that?”
Kyle looked at you his face dead pan.
“I’m not going to tell him, I’ll keep him in your room”
“Wait what? Tank he’s not staying in my room! I’ve already got Lucy in there….”
You tilted your head.
“Lucy?….you named the cat lucy?”
“….yeh she’s pretty…an Lucy is a pretty name…why what?”
“No!….nothing, it is a pretty name!”
“Ohh an what you going to name this guy?”
“…..”
“Well?”
“Sid…”
“Sid?” Kyle cocked his eyebrow at you.
“Yeh Sid vicious”
“For god sake Tank! Wouldn’t he be better in one of the rookies room?”
“Nope, the majority of them already have a kitten or two each remember….the litter we found the other week? To be honest we’ve done pretty well considering…Price hasn’t clocked any of them yet touch wood!” You knocked on Kyles head laughing.
“Shit yeh we have…what about you keeping him in your room?…Price is more likely to be on my side of the base than he is yours, let alone your room!”
You went silent, your eyes wandering away from Kyles. He didn’t know how wrong he was.
“….No….no just get him in your room…I’ll send Rudy your way he said he can get some dog food but for now don’t let anyone see him! I’ll keep Price occupied”
You handed Kyle the makeshift lead and crouched giving Sid a kiss.
“Now you be a good boy for uncle Kyle! mummy is going to sort somethings out but I’m sure uncle Kyles won’t mind giving you a bath while she’s away! Yeh? Yeh? Good boy!” You scratched Sids ears.
“You want me to give him a bath? Tank!”
“Be a good boy Kyle!”
He was already mumbling something else but you had already walked away looking for Price.
*******
“Tank you really need to check over your mission reports before submitting them to me…not that I don’t mind this quality time that we get, but I’m practically rewriting this for you…” Price looked up at you.
You shifted on his lap, a pout forming.
“It’s hard when you have Soap reading out loud, sometimes I write what he’s saying..see that line there? Soap said that…” you rested you head on his shoulder.
“So why didn’t you rewrite it to make sense?” It was a genuine question.
“…..by that point I was too far in…anyway where were we?” You pressed yourself into him, your lips finding his earlobe. It made his face flush you could tell he liked it he was shifting in his seat.
“Haha I hope this isn’t a distraction tactic Tank?”
You stopped immediately, pulling back to look him in the face.
“What…what do you mean by that? Why would I need to distract you?” Maybe he was already on to you. Maybe one of the rookies had fucked up…
Price looked confused.
“I mean you are clearly trying to distract me from your shitty penmanship? And mildly inaccurate report?” Price cocked his eyebrow at you, he had a feeling you were hiding something else now and as if the universe had answered his suspicions there was a loud bang and shouting coming from the hanger.
Your head whipped to the direction of his office door a slight look of panic on your face, you could hear Kyle shouting followed by Rudy yelling something in Spanish.
Shit.
“What the fucks going on out there?” Price looked at you again.
“Don’t know…leave ‘em to it I say…” you tried your hardest to bring his focus back to you, but it was no good Price was already standing up causing you to slide off his lap.
Shit.
“Tank, something tells me that whatever is going on out there has something to do with you…please tell me I’m wrong..”
“You’re wrong?”
“Surprisingly I’m not convinced” an with that he walked out of his office with you close behind.
Price wasn’t prepared for the utter scene he was presented with.
Kyle was holding a cat, Soap was gripping a large “dog” by its collar an Ghost was holding a small black kitten in his hand, a crowd had gathered. What the actual hell? He glanced down at you, you 100% were behind this he knew that for a fact. He pinched the bridge of his nose an let out a large sigh.
“Can someone please help me understand what is going on? I know which individual is behind it but why has it now become a group project?”
“I haven’t a clue Captain, me an Ghost were just out here minding our business, just been tormenting some rookies…then all of a sudden out comes that cat Kyle has hold of being chased by this big wet bastard!” Soap readjusted his hold on Sids collar.
You looked at them both…Soap was soaked and Sid still have some foam on his coat. Kyle had tried to bath him!
Everyone looked at each other in agreement as Price turned to you again. You tried to think quick.
“Wanna explain yourself kid?”
“Not really sir no”
“Your not keeping him…”
Your face dropped, you knew that was going to be the answer…but you thought you would have more time to convince him.
“Why not…he can stay on base then we can ship him back with us…”
“That’s a coyote Tank…” Ghost didn’t even look up when he spoke, the little black kitten had made its way under his hoodie.
Everyone turned their heads to look at Soap an Sid…who was licking Soaps face. Oh on further inspection yeh he was kind of more wolf like than dog like….
Soap must not of heard Ghost as he now had Sid on his back an was rubbing his belly asking him ‘who’s a good boy’, Kyle looked mortified as he held Lucy closer to his chest.
“Well to be fair in the dark he looked like a husky mix…”
You looked at Price he wasn’t amused.
“Rudy can you sort this please, call the right people? I think we have enough wild animals on the base thank you” he sighed as he gripped the back of your neck.
“Oh so you know about the litter of kittens the rookies have, that where you got that little guy Lt?”Kyle looked shocked.
“Yep” Ghost answered.
Price rolled his eyes.
“No Kyle….I didn’t..”
Price’s grip on your neck got a tiny bit tighter.
Shit.

Chenford + 5x16 Tim finds out Lucy got him into Metro!
“Why do you know what the inside of Smitty’s trailer looks like?”
She doesn’t quite get the question at first, mainly because her focus is entirely on ensuring the minced garlic and onion she’s sautéing doesn’t burn but the fact that she’s blocked that entire ordeal from her mind doesn’t help. Cleaning Smitty’s RV was like some twisted circle of hell, one she hoped she wouldn’t get nightmares from. He hadn’t lied when he said it’d been a while since it was last cleaned and Lucy spent the entirely of three hours wondering how Smitty was even able to live like that. One bag became two, two became four, and by the end of the night, she’d taken our nine bags full of trash.
“What?” The question comes out in a small chuckle as she completely misses the point of why he’s asking.
“Smitty, Lucy. Why were you in his RV?”
She looks up this time, a puzzled expression forming across her features as her eyes lock on his and her brows furrow at the question. Tim moves toward her, shutting the door behind him until he stops beside her and she turns to face him. His jaw is hardened, gaze set with anger he’s trying to contain as he crosses his arms against his chest.
It takes her a second for it to click but once it does she knows he doesn’t miss the shift in her reaction as it settles inside her. How brown eyes widen and the soft smile on her lips drop into a frown, the way she’s at a loss for words as her lips part but no sound comes out. She can’t exactly deny it but there was a reason why she went against his back to shuffle all the different chess pieces so he’d end up at Metro.
He waits and it’s ultimately worse than anything else because the way he’s staring her down is something that actually manages to unnerve her. A combination of anger, disappointment, and betrayal. She can’t quite place it but she knows him well enough to know that the flame behind those sparkling eyes hold nothing but an array of negative emotions.
She opens her mouth to speak again but this time, she turns her back on him knowing that this conversation is going to take much longer than she wants and unless they want the LAFD to chime in because of a kitchen fire, the flaming pan on the stove will have to wait. Selfishly though, she uses it to buy herself an extra second or two as she turns the knob to shut off the burner and sets the burning pan aside before turning back to him to meet his eyes.
“I helped him clean it.” “You helped him clean it or you cleaned it?”
“Does it matter?”
“Yes.”
“I cleaned it.”
“Why?”
She knows where this is headed and she doesn’t like it. She cleaned it because she owed Smitty a favor, she owed him a favor because Smitty was the only one who could get Fuji to retire, and Fuji retiring opened up the opportunity for Tim. This is where he’s trying to get her to land on and she’s unsure if it’d be easier to just rip the bandaid off or give him a play by play of how they got here.
“He was the only one who could convince Fuji to retire.”
“Why?”
“You know why.”
“Why?!”
“Fuji retiring was the linchpin. It was the only way to get you into Metro.”
“That wasn’t your call.”
“Tim!”
“No! That wasn’t your call to make, Lucy!” His voice is a little louder this time, more irritated and she can sense how much he’s trying to keep his emotions in check. She tries to protest but he doesn’t let her get very far.
“No! No, Lucy! You shouldn’t have meddled, that wasn’t for you to intervene! You had no right to play chess with everyone’s careers!”
“What?” she shakes her head at him because as much as she wants to understand, she doesn’t. She can’t. “I didn’t!”
There’s a defensive edge to her tone, the accusation feeling a little too personal and a bit too invalid. She knows this is what Nyla meant when she first warned her about getting involved but Lucy was adamant to believe that there was any world where this would backfire, it was the perfect plan. Yet, here he stands, actually upset at the fact that she tried to help him.
“No, no!” she argues, “I was helping you!”
“Really? Helping me? Please tell me how losing my entire team’s trust is helping me?”
“What? What are you talking about?”
“They think my girlfriend manipulated Fuji, Watson, and Hicks in order for me to get into Metro.”
“That’s not—Tim, no. That’s not what that was.”
“Really? Then what was it? Because it sure as hell seems like it, Lucy!”
“I was trying to look out for you! You were miserable at a desk job, you were one week in and you were already bored out of your mind!”
“But that wasn’t for you to decide!”
“Just like it wasn’t for you to decide to leave patrol? I was going to transfer Tim. I was set, I was ready, I thought we had both agreed on it and you decided to go tell Grey?! If you want to yell at me because I went behind your back, fine, but don’t act like you didn’t have anything to do with this when it was your decision that made me act on it in the first place!”
The expression on his face falls and she can see just how much it took him aback. He’s blinking, trying to digest what she just threw at him and Lucy knows it’s not exactly fair but he’s worked her up enough that she feels cornered and it’s the only thing that comes to mind because the thing is, he was the one who set the domino effect into place.
As upset as she is, as much as she hates how upset he is and the aftermath of it all, she’s not about to apologize for it. The truth is she’s not sorry for getting him out of a desk job.
“That’s what I thought.”
“Luc—“
“No, Tim. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be mad at me that I intervened when you did the exact same thing. You don’t think I put anything on the line by doing that either? Do you think any of them are going to trust me again? Are you even going to trust me again?” This hits something that she wasn’t expecting as she sees a rollercoaster of emotions pass through him. She can see how he wants to settle on compassion, his jaw unclenching and his gaze softening at her before it morphs into something else: regret. He shakes his head as his lips purse into a thin line.
“I don’t know.” “Right,” she nods softly as she chews on her bottom lip.
There’s something eerily familiar about the situation, the emotions that envelop them being once she’s felt before when the situation was drastically different yet the way she was left feeling felt the same. She swallows hard to try and stop the tears that are welling in her eyes from spilling over.
“I should go.”
Don’t. Don’t leave me, she wants to yell. She wants to stop him, she needs to because she’s so afraid of where they’ve currently landed. It’s their first real fight and as much as she wants to tell herself that this is normal, it doesn’t feel like it. What if they can’t come back from it? What if she really did just ruin the most important relationship in her life? It’s her worst fear come to fruition as she stands there, watching him turn around and walk out the door.
No. No, no, no. There’s a sour taste in her mouth as it hits her how wrong this all is. This isn’t who they are nor who she wants them to be. They’re suppose to be the ones who make it, the ones with the stories for the grandkids, with the phones filled with albums of each other and their kids. This was suppose to be their first Valentine’s Day together, the first of a lifetimes worth. It was suppose to be romantic, sexy, and intimate, not whatever just unraveled before them.
It’s this thought that propels her to move. The determination to not let the love of her life slip past her fingers. He matters too much for her to just leave things as is. He’s worth the effort, that’s the entire reason she got involved in the first place. She needs him to know this, these were the words left unspoken when he asked and she needs him to know that she did it with the best intent. She just hopes she’s not too late.
It feels like forever between her running after him and actually tracking him down in the parking lot. He’s at his truck about to get in as she sprints across the lot to get to him.
“I did it because I love you!”
“What?”
“You asked me why. You asked me why and I didn’t tell you and it’s what I should have said in the first place. I meddled because I love you, Tim. I’m in love with you. I don’t think I have ever loved anyone as much as I love you and it’s terrifying, okay? You challenge me, you inspire me, you make me want to be the best version of myself that I can. You moved out of patrol for me and I was just suppose to sit there and watch you be bored out of your mind? You loved patrol. You didn’t hesitate and I—I couldn’t, I couldn’t let you make this huge sacrifice for me without doing anything for you. You asked me why I did it. I did it because you taught me that some things matter more. I couldn’t just sit there with my arms crossed and not do anything when I knew how much an opportunity at Metro meant. You matter more, Tim. You always have, you always will.”
That wasn’t exactly what she had in mind to say but she doesn’t regret it either. It’s the truth, the inevitable that was going to come out sooner rather than later because Lucy doesn’t even know when she fell in love with him, just that she did.
Yet again, she’s managed to leave him speechless and if the situation wasn’t so dire, she’d be amused by her ability to render him without words so often. Instead, she waits with her breath caught in her chest as seconds seem like years before he does or even says something. An infinity later the expression on his face softens and he’s staring back at her in a way that’s become like home. Her shoulders relax as small smile curves on his lips.
“You love me?”
“I thought that was a given.”
“You’ve never said it.” “I’m saying it now.”
He steps forward, his gaze never breaking from hers as he shifts a loose strand of hair behind her ear as his hands settles on her cheeks.
“Good because I love you too.”
