AN: this Is Just my Personal experience. It can be very different for someone else.

Warnings: Teen Character is autistic, this includes some personal experiences with autism. Short OS.

You knew you could always count on Beth & Viv. These two were your Safe space. Beth was your older sister so that's why you could always count on her & Viv came into both of your lives making both of you feel really loved.

Viv & Beth both were really protective of you. If people didn't knew better they would probably think they were your parents. Which was (kind of) true in a sense.

Your autism was diagnosed by the age of 10. So 5 years ago. You often get told that people don't notice you have autism when they see you. Which always resulted in you thinking that it was an odd thing to say. But then you remember you became quite good at masking.

People close to you, like your Viv and your Bethy, knew your routines and things you needed to do or needed to have to be comfortable. Other people that were close to you were Jill(Viv's fellow dutch teammate), Leah, Lessi, Kerstin(also one of Viv's fellow dutch teammate) & last but not least Wally.

You sat in your room doing your homework before you would leave for practice with Beth. You practiced with the Arsenal Senior Team alot. But also with the youth Team. Getting in as much practice as possible.

"Y/n, we have to leave soon! Are you ready?" your older sister asked you. You turned around in your Chair, nodding your head.

"Give me a few more minutes to finish this! I want this to be done now! Before practice starts! I always finish homework before practice!" You Tell Beth.

"I know you do, Love Bug!" Your sister replied. It's a Nickname she has given you when you were really little. And you very much liked it when Beffy or Viv called you that.

"I will be done soon!" You told her and you finished the rest of your within five minutes. So you grabbed your things and sat down in the passenger seat of Beths Car. You called Viv right away because you always did that on your way to practice and it was your ritual. It wouldn't be a good practice If didn't call her.

"Hallo liefje love!" You hear Viv say on the other side of the Phone. Her voice was always so welcoming and warm. She always managed to make you feel loved and welcomed.

"hey Viv. I finished all my homework before we left cause you know how important it is to me!" You informed her.

"I do know that! You always are quite fast though! I could never do that!" She told you. Beth was smiling, she loved the bond you had with Viv.

"oh Viv you are so smart and you could do it too! Everyone is different. I may be faster then you when it comes to this but that's okay. My brain is just wired differently!" You tried to explain.

"thank you for calling me smart, liefje love!" She answered and giggled softly. So did you. You knew by now that when people giggled at something you said that they weren't making fun of you. The people you knew and loved you could read by now.

"you are welcome. Did you sleep well? How are you feeling?" You wanted to know.

"i did sleep well. And i am great! Better now that my favorite Mead sister has been calling me!" She said, knowing Beth could hear her.

"hey! Excuse me?!" Beth replied, laughing though. You smile at that.

"i am fine with being the second favorite mead sister, as long as i am your favorite liefje love!" You let her know. Being serious about it. Cause you really loved the nickname.

"of course you are my favorite liefje Love! You are the one and only!" She explained. Sounding just as serious. She asked you how you were and you told her that you were good and excited for practice. You really missed having her at Arsenal though. It was a big change for you but both Viv and Beth made sure you didn't feel like something was missing. You talked on the Phone or Facetimed multiple times a day. So things were easier for you now.

When you arrived at practice you went to greet all the Girls individually, some of them you invented Handshakes with.

"how are you, little Meado?" Alessia asked. You smiled at her.

"i am good! Finished all my homework before we came here!" You proudly tell her.

"of course you did, you are the smartest on the Team!" Leah answered. You nodded your head in agreement.

"possibly. In a lot of things. But not all of them! Mostly just good at things that interest me!" You explained. Smiling gently.

Wally was smiling at that. She thought your rambling about certain topics was cute and she always said If she ever has Kids she hopes they are just like you.

Practice started and you were very focused on the drills. Enjoying them. Glad to have found a safespace with your sister and Viv and with the Team. They were your Lifeline.

Part 1 of a 5 part series about the ways harmful practices are being made to sound more appealing through the co-opting of language and how to spot the differences between helpful and harmful approaches.

The language of the Neurodiversity Paradigm is soooo hot right now. Everyone from ABA centers to social media creators are adopting it to sound like they’re safer and more knowledgeable than they are.

But you can’t just pop some neuro-word in place of “autism” and stop picking on a couple of Autistic traits and call yourself “Neuro-affirming.” That’s the low-hanging fruit of #neurodiversitylite.

REAL Neuro-affirming practice comes from a complete shift in mindset, unlearning all the harmful things you once thought were true, and learning about all the things you never even knew you didn’t know. It’s also an ongoing process, not just something you can learn from reading an article or taking a single training.

ABA practitioners are probably the worst offenders right now, mainly because they know they need to rebrand as more and more people learn about what ABA really does to people, but also because their practices in particular are THE furthest away from being Neuro-affirming compared to any other discipline.

They are not the only ones, though, so be wary of #neurodiversitylite in ANY resource aimed at autistic people that appears to be saying all the right things, including: OT, speech, play/talk therapy, early intervention, education, your favorite parenting expert or social media personality who just discovered the world of Neurodiversity, etc.

Look beyond someone’s use of the “right” words or symbols. Do they talk about teaching people to fit into the normative world, or how to more safely and authentically navigate a world not made for them? Do they talk about making the person easier to deal with, or making life easier for the person? Do they concentrate on external behaviors, or are they more concerned with internal experiences? Does most of what they know come from people who studied autistic people from the outside looking in, or from actual autistic people who can speak from lived experience? And are they even using the words right??

The good news is that there are SO MANY resources out there BY autistic and otherwise Neurodivergent people for anyone who wants to learn how to make their practice *actually* more Neuro-affirming. SO MANY!! Three such resources are featured in the second panel from Autism Level UP, Neurowild, and Kieran Rose-The Autistic Advocate. (Big thanks to them for letting me include their work in the cartoon!)

EXPLANATION OF WHAT’S WRONG IN THE “FAKE” PANEL:

- The phrase “individuals with neurodiversity” misuses the word “neurodiversity” and utilizes person first language. The Neuro-affirming phrase would be “neurodivergent people,” or “autistic people” if they specifically meant autistic people.

- Getting rid of puzzle piece stuff is merely a surface level first step, not an end point.

- Not forcing eye contact and allowing hand-flapping are also only surface level first steps. The fact that they still target other stims means they do not understand the importance or functions of stimming, making them incapable of being Neuro-affirming.

- Social skills training aimed at ND people usually centers NT social skills as the “right way” and frames ND social skills as the “wrong way,” making them shame inducing and not at all affirming.

- “Tolerating distress” most often means “suppressing distress.” Neuro-affirming practice would concentrate on identifying and avoiding triggers, helping the person stay regulated, and teaching the person how to accommodate and advocate for their needs so that they are not distressed in the first place.

- “Sensory desensitization” is not a thing that can be done to someone without harm. It is usually done with exposure therapy, which should not be done TO someone who cannot consent. It is also inappropriate for sensory issues, which tells us they don’t understand sensory processing differences at all.

- The posters: Whole Body Listening is based on neuronormative expectations; “They say I’m neurodiverse” is incorrect usage of the word “neurodiverse” (it should be “neurodivergent”), and “but I say I’m perfect” insinuates that being “neurodiverse” is a bad thing, while the use of the rainbow infinity symbol with such a non-affirming message adds to the dissonance; the ABC’s of Behavior is an indicator that ABA/behaviorism will be used, which is the opposite of Neuro-affirming practice.

EXPLANATION OF WHAT’S RIGHT IN THE “REAL” PANEL:

- The person accurately explains what Neuro-affirming practice looks like, without needing to use (or misuse) any Neurodiversity “buzzwords.”

- Bumper, A Whole Body Learner, is a resource created by Autism Level UP that encourages people to discover what it looks like for them to be ready to learn, acknowledging that there is no one right way to appear attentive.

- The poster by Neurowild indicates that they value difference and neurodiversity and that they know there is no one right way of being.

- They use the Advoc8 Framework, a resource created by Kieran Rose, The Autistic Advocate. Using this framework means they want to help the people they work with achieve Agency, Autonomy, (Self) Acceptance, and Authenticity.

And these are my White headcanons! (and a sneak peek at something I'm working on to show what he looks like cuz I only posted him once lol)

•Has some strange feelings towards Sawyer that resemble a crush but aren't exactly that in the traditional sense of the word. He likes him the way one likes a media character, a type, a piece of art, but not a person. In White's case the slight anxiety many tend to feel in Sawyer's presence mixes with something pleasant and soft, yet he doesn't really care of Sawyer's interests and likes nor does he thrive to be closer to him.

White just accepts these feelings as they are, not thinking much about them and not talking about them to anyone.

•Autistic. His autism is very much different from Sawyer's though so instead of getting along better they have troubles communicating and understanding each other's emotions which leaves Sawyer frustrated and White anxious.

•Has light-sensitive eyes (hence the really small pupils most of the time). Wears sunglasses when outside and prefers to work in semi-darkness.

•Undergoes a lot of social pressure and is really sensitive to it. He used to dye his hair when he was younger but stopped because of societal expectations from someone of his status and age. And that's how it goes with almost everything. Against his own will he succumbs to others' beliefs and views pretty easily, probably due to his deep inner fear of not fitting in, which results from his autism.

•His attempts at socialising can be chaotic. He tries to use his sense of humour and it works sometimes, but other times it only makes the situation worse. Like it did when he tried to make a joke about the "one bad day" and Sawyer saw it as a jab while it was merely an attempt to melt the ice.

•It's hard to explain but I kinda see my White as a never-to-be evil scientist's henchman. Like he was supposed to become something else but couldn't. A trope that never happened. If he was less afraid of societal expectations and more free to be the true himself, he could've been a different person and much closer to Sawyer. Sawyer feels it, hence why he seems to be closer to White than to other colleagues, circling around him as if trying to get something from him but never saying what exactly. He sees glimpses of White's true personality and is therefore often irritated with him seemingly for no reason (not even Sawyer really understands why) but actually because he sees that White could've been a different person and he would've liked that person much more.

Okay it's been long enough since TIT that I can share my thoughts with a clear head. I literally slept the whole of yesterday because I was so tired (thank you, London).

Seeing Dan and Phil was a really big deal for me—as I'm sure it is for most fans. I've been a fan of DnP since primary school and now I'm nearing the end of secondary school and the start of uni so this feels like a very big full circle moment.

As cringe and stereotypical as it is, DnP videos have always been there when I needed them. When I was having a bad day at school, or struggling to come to terms with my sexuality/gender, there were Dan and Phil, ready to put a smile on my face. Dan's coming out video was released the same year I started being bullied for my sexuality and seeing someone I looked up to as much as him be so honest and open really helped me to feel less alone. I rewatch that video a lot. I will always be grateful for that.

I've worn my Interactive Introverts bracelet everyday since I brought it with the DVD (my mum would not let me see them live at the time as I was "too young" lol) so Dan and Phil, in some way, have been there for every big and small moment in my life. They were technically there when I got an offer from the uni I want to go to. I literally wore a Dan and Phil shirt to my autism assessment. They were mentioned in my autism assessment report (though I am not the person who said that for the confessions part of the show, that was someone else. I am not trying to steal their thunder lol). I can't even begin to express what a big part of my life their videos have been.

As I'm sure has been mentioned many times by now, my show was filmed so I might even end up on YouTube or a DVD (PLEASE DAN AND PHIL, KEEP PHYSICAL MEDIA ALIVE) or something, though I doubt that because I was in the royal circle. Also a drunk girl hung off the balcony and heckled for most of the show. I think even ended up getting kicked out. I saw somewhere on twitter that Phil asked for her to be kicked or mentioned to staff that she was too loud but I have no idea how true that is as I was on the opposite side of the circle to her and I have never and probably will never speak to Phil to confirm this.

Other than that, though, the show was absolutely brilliant!

Genuinely! It was so funny and it was absolutely lovely being in a room of people who have the same interests as me; I literally saw a "Be More Chill" "Boyf" bag, "Heathers" tracksuit bottoms, a FNAF Bonnie keychain and a Doctor Who badge all in the space of 5 minutes of one another. My people. Someone even complimented my hat, though I find London so overwhelming that I forgot to respond properly lol (sorry hat person, you were very nice! I liked your whiskers!).

Before the show, they played "Hot To Go" by Chappell Roan, and the whole theatre sang and danced along, which was absolutely lovely!

I was laughing and cheering for about 2 hours straight, so I'd say it was money well spent, though my mum literally fell asleep during the first act so I don't know if she'd agree.

One thing I will say: seeing sister Daniel in the flesh is literally a HOLY experience—I am so... Gay? Straight? Bisexual?? I'm not sure which word go use in this situation but Daniel was hot, so who cares?

To conclude this overly long blog post no-one will read, it was fun and I feel like 12 year old me would look at me now and smile. I saw Dan and Phil live. I got an offer from the uni I wanted to study film! I write!! I have friends who care about me!! I'm not ashamed to like the things I like!! God, they would be so proud of me. And I am proud of them.

I think Taco gaslight Mic about so very many things. Truly at any opportunity it could have been advantageous, though this would slow down around episode 13 when Taco starts to actually like Mic as a friend. This leads to numerous instances post s2 finale in which Mic starts to say something, but Taco cuts her off and says that's not true, and that she'd lied about that. Eventually she just asks Taco to make a list of everything she'd gaslit her about and the actual truth. Taco does, and it is surprisingly long. She gives thorough truthful answers, though.

I like to think Taco would be very helpful in keeping Mic on track with things! Please indulge me in my needs-to-finish-task-before-stopping autism Taco x gets-distracted-from-task-easily ADHD Mic. Every time Mic gets on a task-tangent, Taco is very ready to call her back because they have to finish the thing! They can not stop working until they finish the thing! On the other hand, Mic is probably one of the only people who can really get Taco to take a break from a task to do things such as eat. Especially since Mic is the only one Taco will tolerate picking her up, so she can physically remove Taco from the task.

Mic likes grape flavoured sweets and sodas and such the best. Taco doesn't mind grape flavour, but she pretends she doesn't like them so Mic can have them all. She checks in with Soap to make sure this is an okay lie, just in case, and it would certainly get a stamp of approval.

As a result of spending so much time with Taco, Mic starts to pick up some of her vernacular. Particularly the more obscure or complicated language that she'll use. Mic accidentally says she's famished one day instead of saying she's hungry and is brutally teased for the next two minutes. It's all in good fun, but it's when she starts to notice the change in her vocabulary.

Speaking of Taco's vocabulary, I think Mic would buy her one of those little word-of-the-day calendars :). Just a nice gift, yeah? Something she'd see online and think 'oh Taco would like this' and purchase without much thought. Taco on the other hand has not received something from someone else (that she did not steal) at all in recent years so she treasures everything given to her. She keeps the used pages of the calendar in her shell for safe keeping.

i had an idea but i don't feel like writing exploratory surgery on it right now, so here's this little headcannon post about travis seeing sal without his mask for the first time. yes i know i wrote a fic about travis seeing sal without his mask for the first time already ignore that

i don't think he's ever tried to take sal's mask off, and i think that in a weird way, due to the large number of extremely complex feelings travis has about sal, if someone were to ever take sal's mask off, or tried to do that to him, travis would try to defend sal from that person to the best of his ability. in his mind, as much as sal is a freak and he hates him, trying to take off sal's mask is going too far.

i like to think he saw sal's face the first time by accident in some form or another, whether it's like my fic 'death lingering' or some other scenario. in a completely autistic move fueled by his desire to stick to the rules he's familiar with, and his fear of change, and also his urge to (for lack of a better term) respect sal after sal showed him so much kindness, travis looks away from sal's face, because he knows he's not 'supposed' to look at it. he feels weird looking at it when he knows sal doesn't want anyone to see that, like how men generally aren't supposed to look at muslim women out of their hijab. it's disrespectful, and travis feels like he's violating sal in some way, so he covers his eyes.

obviously, sal does not get the memo on this and immediately assumes that travis isn't looking at him because he think sal is too horrible to look at, and wow does that make him feel really fucking bad after trying so hard to become travis's friend. and that's on top of already being on the verge of a panic attack because of whatever scenario had his mask coming off in front of someone who isn't larry.

sal starts freaking out even more, but travis assumes it's because he's scared that travis saw his face, so he says "i didn't see anything, i swear!" it's not necessarily true, but he's saying it to make sal feel better. after travis says it a couple of times, sal starts realizing that travis isn't looking, not because he thinks sal is ugly, but because he cares, he knows that sal doesn't want people to see his face, and that's why he's looking away. it completely changes sal's perspective on things.

after that, travis doesn't really know what to do. they're both somewhat frozen in this situation, with travis having his hands over his eyes. travis isn't very good at comforting people or anything like that, so he decides it's probably just better if he doesn't talk, and sal is a bit shocked and trying to compose himself, so he's not really talking either. it's very awkward.

after a bit, sal is somewhat more composed, and he thanks travis for not looking.

i like to think in some experimental act of attempting things he's seen on TV/read in books, travis blindly tries to reach out and put a hand on sal's shoulder, with his eyes closed, and no idea where sal actually is in relation to him. he ends up touching sal's face once or twice before landing his hand on sal's head, and sal kindly moves travis's hand down to his shoulder while travis gives a very comforting autism grimace. at the very least it makes sal laugh a little, which kind of makes travis want to die but like whatever it's fine. travis has constructed an intricate ritual to touch the skin of another guy so who's the real winner here.

So, I took the time to listen to some of your voice impressions and afterwards I just... sat. In pure silence. My had my hands folded below my chin and contemplated the likeliness of Alex Hirsch creating a second Tumblr account where he could minger among fans without them suspecting a thing, posting "fan" content of his own show. But then would he have hired the other actual voice actors for the characters he didn't voice? Hmm...

Alright, jokes aside, HOW DO YOU SOUND JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS?! Your voice impressions are amazing, utterly astounding! I just— Please tell me you have earned a lot of followers for how good they are. I don't know how to find out how many followers other Tumblr accounts have because I'm still new to it, but you should have several, otherwise the world is plotting against you.

Anyway— Would you mind maybe explaining your process? I live to hear behind-the-scenes kind of stuff and would be especially interesting to hear from you with how accurate your impressions are. And, also, have you considered gaining a professional career in voice acting? I feel like you would be excellent at it if you did.

i am not alex, to start off. i promise you that.

so, some context. gravity falls was one of my first real shows that i watched. i saw some of the episodes back in the heyday and thought "huh. this is weird. but good weird!". i didn't think much of it since im a busy person, always have been. then covid hit 5 years ago and i was bored out of my mind. i'd watched ducktales 2017 and had liked it, so i wanted to find a new show to watch with my mom and brothers. enter gravity falls. i remembered what i had watched a few years back and figured we should give it a watch.

that show had such a profound impact on me and it was one of my first true hyperfixations. i learned every little bit i could, consumed everything there was to consumed, read all the side books, everything. it was around this time i discovered i could do grunkle stan passably. i didn't think much of it since i didn't know how cool impressionists are and what they can do. however, it receded to the back of my mind when my next hyperfixation hit. you'd never guess what it was...

it was the owl house. of course it was. when it started back in 2020, i saw the trailers and thought "this is a girl show. i'm not supposed to find this interesting". (thanks, dad). oh, how wrong i was...

if gravity falls opened my eyes, then the owl house beat me upside the head with a frying pan. i learned way more about a lot of things, like being introduced to lgbtqia+ people, nonbinary people, people with trauma, and autism being a lot more common. that show had more of an effect on me than anything else in my life, and my love for it will never cease. this show led to me figuring out that i'm genderfluid and probably autistic, which helped me so much in understanding things. during this time, though, gravity falls was pushed back down, not forgotten, but not that relevant. that was until i fell down the theory rabbit hole, tho.

what brought gravity falls back to me was when i remembered that someone tried to steal stan's car in vegas. someone named "marilyn". this got the cogs turning. edas full name being edalyn, her being likely to steal a car, her being notorious in the human realm and using that name, a lot of stuff. but this connection between my two favorite things revitalized my love for gravity falls. now, it was the characters. i'd gotten back into it. this coincided nicely with a comicon, where i saw something about voice acting and decided to see what i could do. i haven't turned back since.

first i brought stan back, since he's pretty easy for me to do. sometimes my voice normally sounds like him after i've been shouting a lot. then i started trying to do my other favorite characters, and found myself at a road block. i kept grunkle stan going strong, and got some other characters too (dm me for full list of characters, don't feel like listing them rn, this post is long enough as it is). then tbob came out, and i gained new hope. along with getting into dragon ball and hearing clips of roshi (who i can also do), i realized i might be able to do mcgucket as well. if alex can do it, so can i! this really started it. soos came along not too long afterwards (by the same logic), and then i attempted hooty. hooty isn't my greatest one (my little brother does him better), and that put bill and king off of the table since my voice can't get that high yet. this was also around when i got tumblr. then, i had an epiphany. stan and ford are twins who can do each other's voices, right? (doesn't matter that alex and jk simmons did those parts normally, in the lore the stans can). they are both in a similar kind of gravelly register, so i started working on it. no one was harder to get down than ford. it took weeks of attempts, but eventually i got it. i then did a dub on tumblr after posting other stuff for like a month or two, after i could get into ford relatively quickly. it took off. i think its still my top post of all time tbh. i've been posting voice acting stuff ever since.

ok, with lore dump out of the way. i'm at about 20 followers rn, but that's pretty good for only 3 months of original content. i'm sure to keep growing if i keep at it. i'm a variety blog, so i'm sure to keep amassing loyal subjects treasured fans.

as for my behind the scenes process, it's called "stan first, everyone second". i can switch between my normal voice and his on a dime. after i get my throat warmed up, i then can do other people. with ford, i have to do stan's voice at least once before being able to use his. same goes for mcgucket (young and old), doofenshmirtz, batman, anyone else with gravel. there are a select few i dont need to do stan for, like soos, frieza, and super kame guru, tho.

as for you last question beloved moot, i would love to do voice acting for a living. it's a competitive market, but it would be my dream to do it.

- Duncan Ohhhwww ohhh Duncan 💔💔💔😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭 I feel like he's the baby of the group. he's the only one other than Zoe (I think( that's still under 18 so everyone is wary everytime he plans to do something

- this is pretty much canon but Duncan likes a LOT of nerdy stuff like grottos & gremlins and used to get bullied for it so he's lowkey in front of the townies. he tries to really point out how Cool these things are and that they're missing out but he doesn't need to do allthat because the Townies wouldn't gaf

- I think they'd sometimes indulge in grottos & gremlins and Duncan gets so happy. Jerry turns out to love the game too and he and Duncan do the most intense crazy sessions ever

- u know how some of the Townies had probably been made fun of in Bullworth which eventually somewhat led to them quitting the school. I think pranking the people they hate becomes like a comfort activity or something. Duncan is sad and Leon goes up to him saying, "You wanna go egg Davis? comeonnnn you know u want to 😊😜"

- I think all of them have the same mindset as Jimmy where they really Don't gaf about gender when flirting or whatever. Gurney is successful with women but guess what. he's successful with men too #YIPPEE

Hi. I have OCD (and various other mental illnesses) and have a character who has OCD. However, this character lives in a setting with aliens who are basically psychic with extra steps (they communicate via electromagnetic fields and can identify and interact with humans brain's electrical impulses.) What I'm wondering is should I make it so these aliens can like, easily distinguish some types of neurodiversity. i.e. they can easily recognize OCD character because his thought/brain patterns are more "repetitive?"

Personally I'm very torn on this. On one hand it feels validating because like a sort of "proof" that the difference is there and to ignore it is foolish. But at the same time it feels reductive to be, even indirectly, identified primarily by disability.

Possibly relevant, I don't think all neurodiversity should be easily identifiable by this species. Like I don't think autism could be identified (too much variation) but maybe something like DID could (parts of the brain field are somewhat "segregated")

Thank you for your ask! I think if the aliens have had contact with humans (or similar alien species) before, they might have some knowledge on what conditions are associated with certain thought patterns. If the aliens haven’t specifically spoken to humans on the matter they might make their own classifications which would probably look a lot different than ours (especially with how wide symptoms vary in one condition and how many symptoms overlap in so many conditions).

Your character doesn’t have to be only identified by their OCD, that may be what stands out at first to the aliens but if your character is well rounded they can be identified by their other traits. For example, when you first meet someone you might think of them as ‘the person with the interesting fashion sense,’ but as time goes on and you learn more about them you associate them with more traits.

I think that it's an interesting idea. I feel that it would make sense for an alien psychic creature to recognize that there are some "thinking patterns" that some humans sometimes have. As an example, I can see how they would pick up that certain people have a very specific Pure O pattern just from psychic-ing various people.

Depending on if/how the topic of mental health/neurodiversity exists in the alien society, they might not even necessarily consider it as such. If they don't recognize the pattern as a disorder, they might just think of it as a type of thinking that humans just have, like how they can perceive that some humans have brown hair while others are redheads (while readers would probably pick up on what is implied if they know anything about OCD). The alien aspect gives you a lot of possibilities.

As someone with OCD, I don't see it as "reducing" at all. It's true that his thoughts happen in a different manner than most peoples', but there's still content in them, right? His OCD is just affecting them, which is just how that works. The only exception here is that his OCD process itself is a part of the story - unless you decided to put his entire character's focus on how Weird and Exotic that is, you should be perfectly fine. I think it's an interesting part of worldbuilding to add.

If you are really worried about him being "identifiable" by his OCD, you can always make it so that different OCD types are seen as distinct (or, from an alien's perspective, perhaps even unrelated). For example, someone who's thought process is occupied with visual intrusive thoughts, versus one who is mainly having a specific compulsion-obsession pattern over and over, etc. - this will show OCD as the wide range that it is, and definitely not as "a label" that someone could just be instantly identified with. You can also make sure to show that every person's thought patterns are different to some degree (even if they're as neurotypical as it's humanly possible), and perhaps those with OCD's patterns are just hyperspecific enough to be recognized as more different; a "genre" of thought patterns of sorts. Because at the end of the day, there will also be people who don't have OCD who might share a few of these "OCD patterns" (and who don't fully get read as having it, maybe as adjacent at best), as well as two people who do have it and whose brain patterns don't match at any point, who still do get read as having OCD despite all that. It's a spectrum, afterall, so the brain patterns would be too.

I think that if you have OCD yourself, you can do basically anything you want with this. As I said, you have an interesting concept that you can tackle from a bunch of different angles, and I would love to see a take on it by an author with OCD.

Now, these two are little shits, so the way they first introduce themselves to you is... Abrupt

Macaque over here will probably corner you in a deserted section of a market and start flirting immediately since you caught both of their eyes and he has the go ahead

Poor dude is so confused on why you are so fucking scared

So they both back off for a while... Then they see the problem.

They see the problem when they are stalking keeping an eye on you and see you go into a zoo and your friends take you through the primate section and you cower, except when you see the pygmy marmosets

Armed with this new knowledge, they are now trying to introduce you slowly, they start talking to you in more public places with their human disguises.

They do let you know these aren't how they look like, but it's pretty close and you think they would probably look hot regardless

Painfully slow when you are now hounding them to see their actual forms. They have warned you that you would not like it all that much, but you are a stubborn person

So they do

And you freak out, unsurprisingly. So they both transform into the marmosets you adore and that has helped calm you down

So they start taking things slow again.

Coaxing you little by little by showing their tail once in a while for you to play with if you are stressed.

Showing their claws bit by bit (maybe more when you paint them-)

After, I would say a few months, they finally show the full, true forms around you all the time.

It's truly sweet how these two are fucking oblivious yet so patient and loving at the same time.

hey, listen! this is a rant post about neurodivergent characters in Genshin and my frustration with the fandom's reading comprehension skills. if you're in a bad place or just don't like angry rants, please don't force yourself and go read something else instead. <3

Okay, so, I watched this video recently, and let's just say, I have some thoughts.

This isn't just a Xiao problem- the entire fandom is terrible at characterization. The example that makes me the most angry is the mischaracterization of neurodivergent characters.

Take Alhaitham for example. He's often seen as rude and narcissistic by the fandom- which is especially apparent in Haikaveh content, where people portray him as straight up abusive.

You wanna know why this makes me so mad? The supposedly narcissistic and rude traits Alhaitham has are actually just exaggerated symptoms of autism.

Like, come ON, people. Don't skip dialogue. Better yet, go read through his story quest again. He straight up tells someone who sees him as narcissistic that he doesn't see others as less than himself. Also, his voicelines basically confirm this- he's extremely socially inept and he doesn't care. He has difficulty showing emotions as readily as his peers- that doesn't mean he doesn't have them, just that he expresses them differently. He comes across as rude because he doesn't get that people don't like to hear what they're doing wrong, and he probably doesn't care because that's not his problem. If people don't like how blunt he is, that's their problem. At least, that's how I think he views the world.

And like, there are SO many hints that he's autistic. He wears sound-blocking earpieces, for crying out loud. Hell, the ENTIRE REASON why he helped out during the Archon quest was because he didn't want his life to change too much. Preferring routine is an autistic trait.

And the worst part is, when I talk about this outside of neurodivergent groups, people tell me I'm wrong and that he couldn't be autistic DESPITE THOSE PEOPLE NOT BEING AUTISTIC THEMSELVES.

And I'm not saying that every autistic person relates to Alhaitham, but I certainly do. And I'm actually quite friendly because I'm anxious about being rejected. Alhaitham isn't, and I'm so jealous of him for that. He's living his best life.

Finally, back to the Haikaveh thing... Alhaitham isn't abusive. He doesn't say horrible things to Kaveh, and the one example of him doing that I could find, he immediately backtracked and subtly tried to make Kaveh feel better. Hell, Alhaitham doesn't even actually care about making sure Kaveh pays rent. He says it as a joke, but because he's autistic and his tone of voice doesn't give that away as well, he's portrayed as abusive and misunderstood as narcissistic. Y'all just don't like neurodivergent people and it shows.

Yes, neurodivergent includes Xiao. PTSD is often viewed as a form of neurodivergency, and there are many MANY characters in Genshin that have PTSD or some other form of neurodivergence. Yet people refuse to see them as such and mischaracterize them as "edgy," "narcissistic," "unapproachable," "weird," and the like. Yet none of these characters are any of those things.

You wanna know the true narcissists? The true edgelords? The actually rude people? Might I direct your attention to Scaramouche, Childe, and Dottore, whom everyone makes out to be as misunderstood pathetic little meow meows that need love.

Reminder that only two of those three are actually redeemable, and one is STILL an edgelord who is more rude than Alhaitham could ever be, while the other is a certified insane person with a weird set of morals.

(Side note: I love Scaramouche and Childe as characters. I'm just tired of people acting like they aren't worse than the autistic characters. Scaramouche is extremely rude, but he's trying to be better as Wanderer thanks to Nahida's help. He has severe PTSD, and Childe does, too. But both of them are actually messed up and have done horrible things, yet people portray them as better and more in need of love than the characters with unlikable (read: neurodivergent) traits.)

Don't even get me started on how people portray Kokomi, Sucrose, Fischl, Diluc, Zhongli, Cyno, Furina, Neuvillette, and Albedo. Especially that last one- I WILL get mad if one more person tries to tell me he's just emotionless and rude.

Also, if anyone is wondering where I've seen people misunderstanding these characters, it's mostly on Hoyolab site discussions. There's one too many posts talking about how "rude" and "annoying" these characters are.

With Alhaitham especially, I see many people writing him as abusive in Haikaveh content. I see people arguing about the ship being toxic because Alhaitham is "abusive," "unfeeling," and "cruel." Even people who like the ship portray him as such. And I've seen too many people comparing him to Dr. Ratio, who is literally just a narcissist who views others as beneath him. Don't get me wrong, I understand the comparison. It's just... very obvious that people skipped dialogue during Genshin's Archon and story quests.

And it's frustrating because I've been misunderstood in the exact same way. I've been called "rude," "annoying," and "unfeeling" in the past and it's screwed me up. Seeing people do the same thing to a character I so deeply relate to makes me lose confidence in both myself and people around me.

If that's how you view a fictional character with autistic traits, how do you treat real people with the same traits?

I’ve kind of talked about a lot of this before in my post about why I think Armand and Daniel’s relationship ends in the books but I’ll make this post into a sort of tldr lol. for my own comprehension sake I’m going to answer ur questions in an autism friendly list, lmao

do you think the lack of telepathy between them was a factor? —Yes absolutely. Armand struggles a ton with verbal communication as well as being open and vulnerable with his loved ones (especially Daniel). I think that Armand definitely had a crisis after he turned Daniel bcus he was feeling a ton of grief and sadness after his turning and in addition, had his most comfortable mode of communication stripped from him. Armand in tvl doesn’t speak out loud for most of the book, which makes me think he finds telepathy much easier then speaking, and it was definitely a big part of his dynamic with Daniel. Armand defaults to using telepathy when he has trouble speaking about certain topics, or is in a headspace where he has trouble talking in general. it’s very likely armand wasn’t commutating with Daniel at all once they didn’t have the telepathy bond which was def a factor in their relationship falling apart. Daniel probably felt neglected by Armand and didn’t know why since he suddenly wasn’t talking. Get this boy a communication device 😭

do you think he felt guilty for turning him or just sort of didnt know what to do now that it was done, or both?—I think he felt guilty, and also like a failure. Armand’s vow to never turn someone into a vampire is incredibly important to him, and possibly one of his only moral standards he is dedicated to holding onto. Armand considers turning someone into a vampire an unforgivable evil he would never want to participate in, he thinks that the maker and fledgling dynamic is doomed from the start bcus fledglings will always grow to hate their makers, and he thinks that this is inevitable bcus vampirism is a curse that no one will ever get anything good from. As Armand sees it, him turning Daniel was both selfish and cruel, bcus he cursed Daniel horribly out of the selfish desire to keep him alive against his own good, and it was also a forgoing of his most important boundary and therefore a forgoing of his humanity and his morals. So needless to say Armand is kind of going through it after he turns Daniel, lmao

what do you think changed to allow them to get back together in the end?—I think that Armand’s complex about vampirism and his own trauma fueled perspective on the world was the main contributor in Daniel and Armand’s relationship ending, and I think they are able to make it work during the Prince lestat era bcus Armand goes through a lot of growth since queen of the damned, especially in the vampire Armand. After his suicide attempt and his gaining of his human children Armand begins to become genuinely more content, confident, capable of overcoming his trauma set backs, self aware, etc, and I think Armand just being a more happy and optimistic person in itself did wonders for his relationship with Daniel. He always thought of their dynamic as a doomed to fail tragedy, so when he reunites with Daniel and takes on a more optimistic approach they have a lot less conflict. I also think Daniel no longer being an unhinged alcoholic and going through his own growth period helped tremendously lol.

do you think anything could have gone differently so that they didnt separate after qotd?—I tend to see it as an inevitability that their relationship ended that way. The only thing u could change would be making Armand and Daniel completely different people and changing everything about their relationship, lmao. Every little thing in the devils minion chapter, including Daniel and Armand as characters, is a small contributor to a relationship that is about to burst in flames 😭😭 I’m just happy they work it out later on lol

THWNK YOU yea i did it on purpose!!! my au codeflippa is. actually flippa, involuntarily revived by the federation by pumping her with code as makeshift blood. same reactions from every1 though, ppl dont trust her bc she is Obviously a code, the only difference in my au being she is Also flippa. which is hard to get ppl to believe. she knows shes infected her dad but she doesnt wanna be alone, and nobody else trusts her. her worst fear is her dad finding out or coming to terms with the fact shes a code and realizing everyone else was right, therefore shes "not flippa", and she doesn't know how she could explain that away. Sorry for the infodump shes just important to Me. my codeflippa usually looks normal w only green eyes and binary around her, but thatd be boring to draw so i give her glitches n stuff. thats what her form would look like when she has less energy to hold up the perfect look. charlies convinced its just something on the island bc they both have it and so does etoiles so flippa probably just got it too! which she goes along with.

about mariana yeah absolutely.. he sees charlie at his worst and realizes its just a mirror of (code)flippa at her best (considering her true form is literally just full code and mariana knows that shes doing a pretty good job at not looking like it all things considered) and he's like. Fuck! My family is doomed by the narrative!

mariana also doesnt believe shes the real flippa same as in canon. she can tell and it breaks her heart 💔 so she tries to look as normal as she can with him. but definitely slips up once or twice bc of uncontrollable glitches and an unsteady form yadda yadda.
