Accepting that she loved Keith the way she did was complicated for Pidge at first. She was barely starting to figure out how friendships worked and soon, she was beginning to realize there was a thing that just drew her to him more compared to the others.

The only friend she ever had before was Matt, since, according to Lance, Bae Bae and her robots don't even count. Not like he thought her brother did. It had been a long time since she stopped caring, the green paladin was getting used to her nonexistent social life.

So yeah, the idea that she had people who were interested in spending time with her and were always willing to offer her help when she needed was a new concept to the girl.

But having someone who made her heart beat faster whenever they smiled at her, who made her shy and some many other things...

Pidge couldn't fathom ever getting used to that. In her opinion, it was way too out of character for herself.

The green paladin may not be an expert at love, she still knew how it usually went. You start having a crush on someone. Then, you try finding out if they feel the same. And finally, you confess.

A universe where Keith didn't reject her seemed impossible.

Guess she had no choice but to appreciate their current friendship.

It was nice of Keith to offer her some help in improving her training techniques. Her mind may be the sharpest of the team, her fighting skills were still lacking in some areas. Mostly when it came to hand-to-hand combat.

"Come on Pidge, I know you can do it. You just need to be more confident in your movement, it is obvious you keep hesitating. We're here to learn, making mistakes is totally fine."

Lance and Hunk exaggerated when they talked about how awful it was to train with Keith. He wasn't screaming at her or calling her lazy like they said he would.

Taking a deep breath, the green paladin nodded as she stood up. She was tired, her legs felt like jelly, but her teammate was trying so hard to assist her, she couldn't let him down that easily.

"Ok, I'm ready."

Before she knew it, the red paladin was already charging in her direction. Like he instructed her, Pidge used her size as an advantage to dodge his attack more swiftly.

However, she was facing the same problem as usual; she was able to prevent getting hit, but she was still on the defensive and not the offensive. Every time she tried, Keith would grab her and win the sparring match because she was concentrating too much on landing a hit and forgot to stay alert.

All she needed was to find an opening that wouldn't put her at a disadvantage...

There!

The green paladin managed to duck at the last tick when he charged at her, grabbed his shirt and used her weight to throw him like Shiro taught her.

The only problem was that she was so concentrating on keeping her grip on him firm that she forgot to let go of his clothes and went down with her teammate, falling on top of him.

…

"Does that count as a win?" Keith stared back at her wordlessly before slowly nodding, his eyes never leaving her face.

"Yay! I won!" exclaimed the girl when a wave of exhaustion hit her.

Pidge's body immediately relaxed, using her hands as a fan. "Umm Pidge, could you..." Keith looked her up and down instead of finishing his sentence. Was his face red? Oh right, now would be an appropriate time to get off of him. "Sorry."

She offered a hand, which he gladly accepted. "I did good, right?"

The suddenness of the action surprised her. Keith had ruffled her hair as he smiled gently, it was most probably the softest smile she had ever seen on his face since they met, as he gazed into her eyes. "You did amazing. With more practice, I'm sure you'll become a great opponent."

Since then, anytime he could, Keith would pet her hair while never breaking eye contact for a few ticks. Pidge could swear she was going to die of a heart attack if he didn't stop soon.

And now, he wasn't only doing this when he was impressed with something she had done, any time apparently became a good opportunity for him. If he wanted to greet her in the morning, to tell her, "goodnight," to grab her attention when it was his turn to come fetch her to eat or just because he "felt like it."

Everybody noticed at some point, but no one said a word.

Maybe she was also acting strangely, usually, if anyone touched her hair without her permission, which she never gave, Pidge would tell them off.

She never asked Keith to stop.

She already had a bunch of excuses to give if anyone asked her, but secretly, she knew, seeing his cheeks turn a light shade of red when he walked away did something inside of her.

"You're truly extraordinary."

"We're so lucky to have you with us."

"You never give up on people, that has to be one of your best qualities."

"Anyone would be considered lucky to have you in their lives."

"My, your brain will never cease to amaze me, how can you know so much?"

"You should tie your hair up more often; it looks cute."

Those phrases were always said with so much emotion in his voice and she couldn't understand what exactly was that tone. She just knew she liked the difference compared to his usual stoic one.

What could this all mean?

Space was beautiful, Pidge knew that ever since she was a little kid, staring up in delight at the starry sky with Matt.

It was even more mesmerizing with Keith sitting next to her, no one else in sight.

She hadn't expected him to speak, nor to place his hand on top of hers. At this moment, she felt as if a spell was finally broken.

"I'm grateful to have you in my life. I'll do anything to keep you here."

Oh.

Oh.

Maybe she did have a chance with the first boy she truly liked.

So much has happened since I last updated this fic! My last year in secondary school is soon over, today I had my French ministry exam that’s worth 50%, so you better not fail it or no diploma. I also finally went to see a doctor because I sleep like 4h a night and I’m constantly exhausted so now I’m waiting for the results for my blood test. AND I had my last secondary school art exposition last week, in the end of the month, my brother and I are going to see Pierce the veil (can’t wait!!) And I leave for New York tomorrow morning for a school trip with a bunch of my friends (I hope we’ll have no problems crossing the border).

So yeah, amongst all of that, I’m trying to rebuilt my love for art and writing and I hope I can manage!

Do you think James dies a little on the inside every time Keith comes to visit the paladins?Namely having dinner in front of Allura’s statue.(Or at least I think thats on Earth)

Because he DOES have an attachment keeping him tied to Earth, James just isn’t that attachment.

Im p sure Allura’s statue is on New Altea. I think Keith visits earth though, whenever he gets the chance.

Also, i think of Keith and James’ relationship in pretty much the opposite way. James is Keith’s only attachment to earth. When Keith thinks about home he thinks of both the house he grew up in and of James. It’s just that Keith tends to prioritize the needs and wants of everyone else over his own.

In the episode where Pidge wanted to leave voltron to find her family, where Hunk and Lance wanted to go home, Keith also wanted so, so badly to go home to earth. To go home where James is, to forget about this war he didn’t even know existed until he was fighting in it. But with the way he left James, and how he didn’t send even a single text to let James know he was still alive and well, he felt he didn’t deserve to go home, let alone to verbalize his wishes.

And on top of that, he knows that if he were to leave Voltron, Earth would have no protector, and he’d be putting James’ life in jeopardy (along with everyone else on earth ofc).

Keith’s primary love language is acts of service. Back in the Garrison, he liked to peel James’ oranges for him. Both because James sucked at it and because it was something he could do for him.

Becoming a paladin of Voltron, staying in the fight no matter his own desires, was Keith’s greatest act of service to James.

Also, i dont hate myself or you guys that much so i tend to write them a happy ending

James is ofc devastated about keith leaving earth again to go continue his work in the blades and that he cant follow him. But in my heart Iverson saw this depressing as hell break up (like, Iverson watched them grow up and he saw what a mess James was when keith left the first time. Guys iverson is the real number one Jaith shipper) and decided to pull a few strings and arrange like joint missions between the Garrison and the Blades. Because it’s always better to have some backup fire anyways, 10k years of violent colonization isn’t going to disappear completely after a mere 6 years ykwim. They’re bound to visit dangerous zones and garrison backup could come in extremely handy when they do.

So Iverson sends James out to lead the Garrison portion of literally every single joint meeting, which is quite often. So James and Keith get to do work alongside each other. yay happy ending!!

Had an owl house/tangled crossover idea!(originally posted in community but I wanted to post it on my page as well)

So it is gonna be a replace owl house characters with tangled ones but there are gonna be some twists. But before we get into that let's talk about everyone's roles. Buckle up this is long so sorry in advance!

First up we got everyone's favorite boy, Varian!

Varian is obviously gonna take the place of luz and be getting into trouble at school with his alchemy. Varian ends up in the demo realm aka, Demani(sorry sounds better for an island than Demanitus bits he's taking place of the Titan) after following a tiny horse(max) stealing his Flynn rider book. Varian's still gonna keep his normal personality and denial of magic but will study to try and learn the science behind it. Bros gonna be in all tracks but learns he has a talent for potions, aka alchemy. His appearance is mostly the same but he has slightly pointed ears, eyes that are a little too blue, and his hair stripe is a lot bigger. Meaning he might not be as human as he thinks. Varian also gets his palisman ruddiger earlier than cannon (he had him in the human realm and never realized what ruddiger actually was till they met Eugene).

Eugene Fitzherbert, aka Flynn Rider, aka the Raven Man. Master thief and one of the most powerful witches in the island. He steals from everyone even the castle itself, the only thing keeping him down is his curse. Slowly growing stronger by the day and making loose little more of his mind. His appearance is the same but with witches ears and fangs, as well as blue hair streaks. Personality is still the same but his arrogance severs as a shield to his how terrified he is of himself. His palisman max serves almost as a conscience for him and is there to keep him grounded with the curse getting stronger. His curse form is a lot like Lilith but way bigger and with electric blue feathers mixed with black. Lives in an old cottage that belonged to the family called the raven house. Wild witch but specializes in illusion and abomination or bard haven't decided between the two.

Stan and Pete, ya both boys are sharing hootys role. There a little different because couldn't figure out how to make them bird tubes but they're like living gargoyles but there's statues of them inside and outside the house so they're able to transfer their minds to any body in or out of the house. Yes they're still as terrifying as hooty and yess they are not supposed to be able uproot their bodies so we will have the porta hooty moment with them. Personalities are the same as cannon, just way more chaotic.

Next up we got Lance. Lance is kinda in a king role kinda his own thing. Lance lives in and out of the raven house and has been Eugene's best friend since they were kids and the Fitzherbert's adopted him when he was a teen after he finally told them he was an orphan. So yay! The two are brothers!. Lance is Eugene's partner in crime and has been the main person helping keeping Eugene's curse at bay, whether that be getting the elixirs or nocking him out when he gets to crazy. Still wild but specializes in illusion and beast. Only reason he doesn't live full time in the raven house is too take care of his daughters. He also has a red squirrel palisman named nutty(he gets chased by Catalina a lot. It’s become a game at this point).

Kiera and Catalina, the real king roles. Lances daughters and Eugene's nieces. Both are thieves but Lance is trying to make them go straight.

Kiera keeps her normal appearance(but with witch ears and the red marks are part of her skin).

But Catalina is the wolf 24/7 only smaller, with red fur and Catalina's normal eyes(up girlie is a demon). Both use illusion but Kiera is showing talent in construction and Catalina beast keeping.

Up next is Cassandra. Cass is taking the role of Lilith and her main mission is to capture Eugene. I haven't decided if the two are going to be siblings or just former friends but the cursing stays the same. Both were competing to be the next head of the empresses coven (and rapunzels love because I understand and like the ship, I just like new dream better) and Cass got so desperate she cursed Eugene. She regrets it and wants to make it right but hides her guilt under constant insults and mockery, leaving Eugene bitter towards her. Palisman is owl and she's a part of the empresses coven. Same appearance but with witches ears and silver eyes. Before you ask, yes the two have the iconic battle where Cass screams how Eugene got everything and how he acts like he's better than her when he's a criminal. Eugene says he is better than her and she shouts the iconic line "Than why were you so easy to curse!"

Next up we got Rapunzel herself. Takes the place of Rain Whispers. Was trained to be part of the healing coven her whole life by her governess but has always secretly wanted to be a part of the bard coven. Practiced in secret till she got her sigil. Palisman is Pascal and he serves as her chaotic side. Still an artist and paints all her gowns. She tried for a long time to heal Eugene but he pushed her away out of fear of hurting her. Still is trying to this day find something that will work. Acts all innocent but reality doesn't trust a damn word out of the empresses mouth. Has started going by the alias the sun drop while forming a resistance against the covens. Appearance is the same only with the ears and her hair is always glowing gold. Also her hair is the same bob she has in the series, cut her hair as one last act of rebellion before joining the coven system.

Hugo is up next. He's gonna take the place of amity(obviously). The son of crime boss Donela, he's been trained his whole life to get into the empresses coven but to take it down on the inside. Arrogant and prideful Hugo tends to be an ass and has his rivalry with Varian before falling in love. He's top student in either abomination or potions(haven't decided which) and Olivia is his

she also spies on people for Huao t

gain black mail. Appearance is the same only he has metal naturally coating his hands, silver streaks in his hair, witches ears, and green and grey eyes. Was best friends with Nuru but had to cut ties due to his mother and for her safety.

Up next we got Nuru and Yong who are taking the place of willow and Gus. Both of them are outcasts at school but become best friends with Varian. Nuru is a part of the oracle track(originally plant but was horrible at it) and Yong is a member of the potions track. I don't know much about their personalities so I can't say much but will say they both will gain palismans. Yong's being that of a salamander named Nitro and Nuru's being a black dog with constellations named Cana.

Up next we got the brotherhood. Hector and Adira serve the places of Eber Wolf and Darius respectively but with are there from very early in the story. Both are coven heads(sharing the same tracks as their roles) but have always been suspicious of the empress and have secretly joined the informer known as the Sundrop to find out what's been going on. Both know what Eugene and Lance have been up too and do not approve. They've tried to get them to stop and make them come home but fail every time. Both are starting to get desperate and are slightly afraid their nephews curse after what happened before Eugene ran away. Both suspect Cass did it but can't prove anything, doesn't stop them from being hostile and petty AF to her though. Cannon appearances but with witch ears and Hectors more beastly with golden eyes, black fur and fangs. Adira has a lynx palisman named big foot, while Hector has his rhino jasper his bearcats are just beasts he keeps around, not palisman)(Hector also created a spell to turn palisman huge for a temporary time period that he uses on jasper a lot. Refuses to teach Adira but did teach Eugene after he got max).

Edmunds up next. Edmund was once head of the empresses coven but retired after Eugene's curse attacked him. Leaving him without his arm and damaged his palisman Hamuel. He doesn't blame Eugene in the slightest and like Gwendolyn is trying to find Eugene a cure. He is less trick-able though and more likely to resort to violence. He tries to visit his son but Eugene avoids him like the plague, too guilty to even look at his father after what he did. He does talk to Lance in secret a lot though and visits his granddaughters. He understands that Eugene needs Lance and both keep it a secret that they're in contact.(will cause issues when revealed). Same appearance but with fangs, witches ears m, and blue streaks in his hair(though they've started to turn gray from stress and old age). If you're wondering, yes he still talks out loud. Bros just been doing that his whole life though. He also became more determined to bring his son home after his brother, the former head of the plant coven disappeared.

Up next is Quirin. Father of Varian and over worked farmer, he is constantly exhausted. He doesn't like Varian messing with alchemy or things that are considered unnatural. His ears are scared and a little misshapen. Is an extremely talented farmer(so much so you would swear it's magic). Has a hare that always hangs around him.

Looks extremely similar to the silhouette of the missing plant coven head Varian saw once, almost two similar. Maybe Quirin isn't quite as human as people think. But if that's true, why did he leave and what is he hiding from?

Finally the moment you possibly have been waiting for Zhan Tiri As Belos! Empress of the demon realm and considered the strongest witch ever she rules with an iron fist and no mercy.

Secretly was once a powerful creature of darkness and hellbent on destroying the realm as a whole before Demanitus trapped her in a mortals vessel. Without her true power, she used knowledge of science to create fake magic and manipulated the realm for years. As empress secretly plans to drain all the isle of their magic to regain her true self and destroy both this world and the human world. (Also Matthews and Nigel I are her Kiki's, sorry not sorry.

haven't figured out who'd take hunters role.

Might be Varian and he's share the role as Luz and Hunter. Could be Andrew or the Stabingtons(though I like those two better as basilisks). Maybe Vex or someone original, I don't know yet.

Edit: a user named kayzedrawz suggested I use the character Amber as Hunter. I can’t find really any info on her but she looks a lot like Ulla. So I’m thinking they might be related. Maybe if amber does take Hunter’s role she’s a grimwalker of Ulla who was helping Zhan Tiri build a way to access the human realm once the daring spell was complete. So once Ulla died(maybe Quirin killed her to protect baby Var and the island before fleeing) Zhan created a grimwalker to be a smart as Ulla.

He is also capable of summoning Sparkling Stars and other basic Soul-based weaponry, but he rarely ever does; he finds Heart Magic easier to wield.

Nancy x Ace and that confrontation at the morgue

I am a wreck, ruined, RUINED I tell you. Nancy and Ace are putting us through it this season, and I am both absolutely here for it and SOBBING IN A CORNER. Seriously, the angst is DELICIOUS.

Sidenote: Can we talk about costumes for this episode? Ace is wearing a variation of what he wore when they kissed - white/pale blue t-shirt with a blue shirt over it (because emotionally he’s still there). And Nancy is wearing the colours of Ace’s bedspread from the night that they finally opened up and talked and she told him everything. Just in case you needed your feels smacked some more.

It’s so painful right from the start - they’re finally in the same room as each other (yay) but oh boy Nancy is not engaging. She’s gone from heart eyes every time she catches a glimpse of Ace to not even looking at him. And he’s desperate for her attention still, he can’t bear it, taking every opportunity to stand near her, try and catch her eye, literally moves away from everyone else to stand close enough that she falls over him when she stands up in the woods.

She’s angry and hurt and who can blame her? Nancy has a long standing relationship with abandonment issues and they are coming to bite her with a vengeance with Ace. He has triggered every single response from her by telling her they can’t be together and then walking away. Ace is doing it because sacrifice is one of his love languages, but Nancy only sees that she’s not enough, they’re not enough, these feelings, they’re not enough to make him stay. 

So she’s been physically avoiding him until she can’t, and now she’s eye contact and emotionally avoiding him until he snaps later in the episode. Because Ace is patient. Ace has always been patient - he’s the steadfast rock at Nancy’s side, always there at her shoulder with reassurance and quips and a half smile with a gentle heart. And he’s trying to slip back into that role, even though it’s killing him not to be able to reach out, touch her, hold her, kiss her. He keeps trying and she keeps rebuffing him. 

When he’s tracking down their artefact hunter his body language is open, cautiously optimistic. This is their sweet spot, the place where personal space blurs and they’re caught up in the thrill of two minds working as one cohesive whole to solve a problem. Only Nancy immediately draws a line in the sand. She brings a stool over, sets it a couple of feet away, refuses to do her usual trick of leaning over Ace to look at the screen. He leans over to point at something on the paper and she flinches away from his hand.

That’s the moment. That’s the point where Ace can’t take it anymore. He closes off, turns away, stops looking directly at her. And that carries on when she arrives at the morgue at 8:58 to hand back the teeth.

Nancy is looking stunning, but he doesn’t look at her, barely acknowledges her except to bite off that he’ll see her when he’s next useful to her. Because she's acting like she's the only one hurting, when he's carved open and bleeding in front of her. 

And this is it, finally, finally his patience has run out and he knows Nancy isn’t one to back away from a fight and she doesn’t disappoint him now. Because he has to provoke her into talking to him, has to do something, anything, to break down the walls that she’s built between them. Colleagues, he can’t live with that, he has to lance the wound, clean out, make something new from it even if it hurts them both to do it.

He still can’t look at her though, everything about this hurts, because he’s spent every moment since he walked away from her coming to terms with the fact that she’s the love of his life (he already knew it on some level but kissing her, holding her, having a taste of what they could have been has confirmed it in ways he never expected) and he doesn’t feel he can have her. Doesn’t feel like it’s fair to her, because as long as they’re cursed (and he’s not prepared to risk her life again trying to break it thanks) he can only give her half a relationship. They can be there emotionally for each other, have already proven how intimate that can be, but the physical side will never be an option whilst the curse is in place, and now they’ve had a taste… They could barely keep their hands to themselves before they had any idea what kissing each other would be like, what hope would they have now having had a tiny sliver of it? It’s been something noticeable about Ace in every episode since he found out about the curse, how still he is, how carefully he holds himself so he doesn’t accidentally reach for her and trigger it.

And he raises his voice - Ace never raises his voice. He’s quiet and soft spoken and everything about this shows how stretched to breaking point he is. By Nancy, the lack of her, the fact she’s finally here and acting like she’s the only one that has any right to hurt just because he walked away. The fact that that was the best damn kiss of his life and he’ll never get to experience it again. The fact that he loves her. And he’s finally admitting it (to himself, to her) he loves her so much, more than anything or anyone, and he doesn’t really believe he’ll ever feel that way again, not how he does about her. Everything else is a pale imitation of how he feels about Nancy.

He is so close to breaking, because Nancy is calling him out for walking away, but she doesn’t get it yet, hasn’t listened, hasn’t understood why he did it. He wasn’t abandoning her, he wasn’t taking the easy way out, he was sacrificing how he felt for the chance that she has a full and happy and love filled life, even if it’s without him.

It bubbles out of him, pulling back the skin to reveal the desperately beating heart beneath. He walked away from her and it nearly killed him. To stay with her and her heartbreak would have killed him too. Not living with her, being near her, holding her, kissing her is killing him. And he has lived with that heartbreak, that desperate attempt to be bigger than his wants, to set her free because of how much he loves her. It has pounded in his blood with his heartbeat, it has dogged every step between his flat and the morgue, a litany in his head as he worked in silence with the absence of her that he loves, he loves, he loves her. And he walked away.

What would I say? He didn’t have the words, barely has the words now to articulate how painful this has been, how painful it continues to be. And she’s there and she’s not listening and the emotion is choking him. 

He walks away because he can’t, he can’t bear it, any of it, it’s too much, he wishes he hadn’t started this because he wants her in his life but god this is just too much, too hard, too raw. And she presses his buttons and calls him out and finally he has the words. He turns back and his voice is soft and choked with emotion, it is an effort to get them out but he speaks to her.

And finally she listens. Stunned and heart broken, but she hears him at last.

As he tells her over and over and over how much he loves her. And he’s not said it. Neither of them had dared to, had spoken around and around their feelings when they were trying to break the curse. But now, his heartbreak has cracked him open and his heart has been in her safe keeping for so long and he needs her to understand.

They have been through so much - hardship and pain and grief and despair and now this, this beautiful shining light of his love and his voice is thick with tears and Nancy just wants to comfort him, hold him, show him how much she loves him in return. She’s been telling everyone around them he’s her soul mate, her person, the best kiss of her life, her love, but now she wants to show him and she moves in, reaches for him.

And for a moment, a split second, barely more than a heartbeat, he leans into her too, head tilting, hands lifting of their own accord - it’s muscle memory, his body knows exactly how to step in to hold her, to kiss her just so. Before it all comes crashing down and he remembers himself and the curse and he can’t, pushes her away without ever touching her (never touching, not even for this).

He is so close to tears as he tells her we can’t, steeling himself against the pain, the want, the desperate need that runs through him. Eyes shut against the vision of her, so soft and filled with want and love. Can’t help the flick of his eyes to her lips because this is the closest they’ve been since they kissed and the phantom press of her lips against his is too much, too real, too close and desperate.

They reach an understanding of sorts, as painful as it is. Not quite friends - it’s still too fresh, too real, too much like an epic love they couldn’t ever touch. And it is painful and filled with raw longing and grief. And still Ace holds himself rigid to stop himself from sinking into her, because no matter what he says about other people, she’s it for him, there will never be anyone he loves as much as Nancy.

You're taken back into the living room where everyone else is. They're all arguing about what happened, where everyone was, and who might have done it. This was supposed to be a "grab the money and go" kind of day. It seems like wherever you go no matter what you do, it turns into a case. You're sick and tired of going on cases and helping others. You reach up and touch the metal object stuck in your neck. You'd love nothing more than to yank this thing out but Dean won't let you leave.

"Beverly let go of me. It's so obvious she's guilty," Heddy states.

"You're off your rocker, old lady," Dash rolls his eyes.

"Old lady? I--" She notices Sam and Dean at the entrance of the room and stands up straighter. "I'm thirty-nine."

"Yeah, you have been since '03."

"How dare you!" Heddy gasps.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but who's guilty?" Sam asks.

"The town's slut, Amber. She killed Stan."

"What was her motive?" Dashs asks.

"Everyone knows that Amber was sleeping around. She wanted to leave Stan but her prenup was ironclad. So, she killed him."

"Sounds logical," Dean shrugs.

"Well, unless you believe that ridiculous story that she's been peddling. A ghost killed Stanton. Honestly. She's claiming that Bunny's late husband, Lance did it. Have you ever heard such a thing? So stupid."

"You're nutty as a squirrel on those synthetic hormones," Dash bites back.

"Nutty? How appalling of you. Don't they teach you manners at Harvard?"

"Looks like we might have a case here," Sam says when he pulls you and Dean off to the side.

"Yay," you roll your eyes.

"Do you think we can get to the car and get the EMF?"

"Not with Detective Friendly. I guess we're gonna have to go old school."

"Fine. You stay here and keep an eye on everyone. Y/N and I will sniff around upstairs."

"No, I'm staying here."

"Come on," Dean grabs your arm.

"I want to see Sam get flirted with by them." Dean drags you with him anyway and you yank your arm from him. "You're no fun."

"We're not here to have fun, and you're not leaving my sight."

"You can't keep me on a leash. I'm not a dog."

"Yeah? Then why are you acting like a bitch?"

Your glare would burn holes in his head if it could.

"Be careful Dean, you might not wake up one day if you keep this up."

"You won't kill me. You'll have Sam on your ass and trust me, you don't want that."

He has a point. This whole thing fucking sucks. You two sneak upstairs to investigate while Sam holds the fort downstairs. There are artifacts like a mannequin of armor and delicate paintings in the hallway. Nothing that would suggest there is a ghost roaming about in this mansion. At the end of the hallway, there is a bookcase with a ton of books on it.

On one of the books is a symbol that matches the necklace he got from the butler earlier. He pulls out the book to inspect it but can't because it's attached to the shelf. Instead, the bookcase comes forward and opens, revealing a hidden door behind it. Dean takes out the necklace and separates the key from the rest.

"Now why would this Bunny chick leave Bobby a key that goes to a locked door behind a bookshelf in a house he doesn't live in?" you ask.

"No idea."

Dean uses the key on the lock and opens the door to reveal a set of stairs leading toward where the attic is supposed to be. It's all very creepy but Dean is more scared than you are.

"Ladies first."

"Baby," you scoff and push past him.

You walk up the stairs without any sort of weapon to protect yourself while Dean grabs a metal pipe he sees on the way. The attic is dark and dusty but Dean uses his flashlight to help light the way. If you had your magic, you'd be using it. The attic is filled with different statues, artifacts, trinkets, and furniture. It's so crowded up here that you think a hoarder could live up here. There is a rolled-up rug on the ground with feet sticking out of it.

"Dean? Y/N?"

You and Dean turn and see Olivia, the maid, with a horrified expression on her face.

"Olivia?"

"Thank God! I thought you were him."

"Who?"

"Phillip, the butler. He locked me in here because I wouldn't lie to the detective about what I saw."

"What did you see?" you ask.

"I saw him roll Colette's body in a rug."

"Clown College Colette? The butler killed her?"

"No, he just hid her."

"Who killed her?"

"Let me guess--Lance's ghost?"

"No. Bunny's."

That doesn't make any sense. One person is saying they saw Lance's ghost roaming the hallways and now Olivia is saying she saw Bunny's? If you cared about these people at all, you'd get to the bottom of this. However, with the thing on your neck, you're forced to stay with the brothers. They said you couldn't leave them, they didn't say you had to hunt with them. You'll let them do their thing while you stand by and watch them make a bigger fool of themselves than they already are.

You, Dean, and Olivia leave the attic and join the rest downstairs in the living room. Sam is sitting at the table playing cards with Beverly and Heddy but there is no sign of Dash or Amber. Sam sees you two enter and excuses himself before heading over.

"What did you find?" Sam asks once Olivia leaves your side.

"Have you seen the Butler?"

"No. Why?"

"If anyone has any answers, it's him. We're dealing with two vengeful spirits. Apparently, Aunt Bunny had a bee in her bonnet as well."

"You're talking about a husband and wife tag-team killer ghosts?"

"Gotta keep the marriage alive somehow."

"If it is a ghost. There are no cold spots. No electronics going haywire. No ectoplasm. Come on, I thought you two were better hunters than that," you roll your eyes.

"The key is to a hidden attic," Dean says, ignoring your comment.

"Why would Bunny want Bobby to have a key to her attic?"

"I don't know. It gets weirder. I found Olivia and Colette locked inside."

"Clown College Colette?"

"Yeah, but she ain't studying balloon animals. She's dead."

"Now what does the butler have to do with all this?"

"He's the one who locked them in there."

"Or so Olivia says. You trust her just like that?" you smirk and lean against the wall.

"Shush." Dean turns to his brother. "I don't know why but he's covering for the spooks. He's acting like their Renfield."

"Alright, we've got to find him. I'll take upstairs. You take down here."

"Okay," Dean nods.

Dean leaves no room for argument and takes you with him again. He sure wants you to be alright even after everything you've done to him. He hasn't given up hope on you just yet. Guess you'll have to work harder to break his little heart if you're ever going to leave them. Dean passes by some tools and picks up a wrench he's going to use to defend himself if he has to.

"That's not going to do anything."

"Okay, hot shot, use your magic. Oh wait, you don't have it so shut up," Dean snaps.

"Keep it up, Dean. If I have to kill you and your brother, then so be it. It'll put me out of my misery for sure."

Dean chooses to ignore your jabs even though he's kind of scared you'll actually go through with your subtle threats. Dean continues to search the first floor with you trailing behind him with a bored look on your face. He eventually comes across a room that has a sign on it that reads: BUTLER'S QUARTERS. The door is slightly open so he pushes it open further and stares inside.

"Would you go?" you sigh and push him into the room.

Dean is about to say something to you when he notices Phillip by his dresser. He sees you two in the mirror and turns to face you.

"Uh, the leaky faucet is down the hall."

"Cut the shit, Wadsworth. What are you doing hiding dead maids in secret rooms?"

Phillip chuckles. "I know it all looks rather peculiar but I can explain. I did it for Bunny."

"What, did you hide Colette's body in the attic so that she wouldn't steal Bunny's thunder?"

"I couldn't stand the thought of overshadowing Mrs. LaCroix's funeral with another death. She deserved a proper farewell. I owed it to her."

"That's crazy."

"No, Mr. Winchester. That's loyalty."

There's something wrong here. You push past Dean and approach the butler in determination. You grab his chin and move it to the right and left as you inspect his face. He has a certain fire in his eyes that he didn't have when you first met him. You're not dealing with a ghost. You're dealing with a shifter.

"You're not Phillip," you glare.

Dean receives a text from his brother: "Just found Phillip. Dead." Dean turns just in time to see the shifter grab you and toss you into your husband. Both you and Dean fall to the ground as he makes a quick escape. You push Dean away from you and notice a pile of skin by the back door. The shifter has changed forms, and he could be anybody.

"Fuck. I hate shifters. He better not shift into me," you groan and get up.

Dean calls his brother and informs him what's going on, and the two of you meet Sam right outside the kitchen where Phillip's body is.

"Did you see anyone run out of here? I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch."

"I thought you wanted nothing to do with hunting," Sam says.

"That bastard could be wearing my face right now. He's dead meat."

"So, the shifter's getting its jollies by impersonating dead people?" Sam asks.

"First Bunny, then Lance, and now Phillip. We saw a pile of skin on our way over to you. He could be anybody, including one of us. We need to find silver."

"Oh, my God!"

You three turn and see Olivia in the doorway with a horrified look on her face.

"He was like that when we found him," Dean says.

"Who did this?"

"We don't know yet. First, I need you to calm down. I know you think he was working with ghosts but there's something way worse going on here."

"Worse than...? What's going on here?"

"If you want to help, then help. Can you do that? We need silver."

Olivia walks to a silverware case without question and opens it to reveal a bunch of silver knives, forks, and spoons.

"Why do you need silverware?"

"For protection."

"You need butter knives to protect you?"

"Trust us. There's a method to our madness."

"How do we know Olivia is who she says she is?" you ask and cross your arms.

Sam reaches into the case and grabs a butter knife.

"Can you hold this?" She does as she's told but her skin doesn't burn. She's safe... for now. Sam picks up two more and hands it to you and Dean. "Alright, let's do this."

Kidge headcanon 33 !

I know I made many different headcanons for kidge's last day on earth but huh... WELL ANYWAYS:

Episode 1 season 8:

Keith was watching the sunset on the head of the black lion along with his furry friend, Kosmo...

Lance came earlier to tell him about his date with Allura and of course, he was happy for them: He knew that both had feelings for each other for a while now... But that simply reminded him of how lonely he was...

He had friends... And at the moment, he had Kosmo... But being alone during his last moments on Earth for a while brought him back to his past. When his dad died, he was alone. Always. And it was okay for him now because he couldn't do otherwise... And after years, nothing had changed, apparently... Or at least, that's what he thought...

He got down from Black's head once the sun had settled... In reality, he stayed a bit longer...

He had nothing to do. Just going home in the cold desert. Plus, he had no electricity and nothing to eat for tonight... But again, it was fine for him because he couldn't do otherwise...

As he was walking in the Garrison, without a purpose, he heard some footsteps coming from the other side of the hallway... Walking directly in his direction... His gaze then met Pidge's as she stopped in front of him.

"Keith?..." she said as if it was the first time she saw him in years... "What are you still doing here?"

"Well, I was heading home now..." He sighed as Kosmo approached Pidge to get pats.

She caressed Kosmo's head with a soft smile and then raised her eyes towards Keith again; "Are you spending your last day on Earth alone?"

"Well... Yeah. Shiro is having dinner with his grandpa... So basically, It's just gonna be me and Kosmo tonight. No big deal, I guess," he admitted, sounding a bit down.

"Aw, that sucks! I heard your place doesn't have electricity either. You're gonna freeze!" she said, concerned.

"Yeah, but it's just for one night, so I'll survive," he replied in a desperate sigh.

She frowned. "How can you say that? What are you even gonna eat?"

He thought for a moment. "I have no idea... Maybe some leftovers if I can find any."

"Gosh, that sounds kinda sad," she said, her worry evident.

"Don't worry too much about it. It's just one night in my life," he reassured her.

"I'm not letting you go through this alone! Come to my place! My mom's cooking dinner tonight, and her food is amazing. Don't tell Hunk, but her cookies are even better than his!" she exclaimed with a mischievous grin.

"I don't wanna be a bother... It's a family dinner," he replied, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Who said that it was a family dinner? You're not bothering us at all. I'm sure my family would be happy to have you with us tonight. My dad used to say that we have the family we're born into and the family we choose. I guess you're part of my chosen family," she said, smiling warmly at him. "Come on, join us!"

He thought for a moment but obviously could not say no to these eyes that were staring at him... He sighed. "Fine, I'll come."

"YAY! Did you hear that, Kosmo? You're coming home with me!" she exclaimed, scratching the back of Kosmo's ear. "Oh, and by the way, you can crash at my place too. It'll be much nicer for you than going back to the desert and catching a cold before the launch..."

"Huh... I'm not sure about that..."

"Aw, come on! Just think about it and let me know later, okay? I'll quickly text my mom to let her know you're coming for dinner. We just have to wait for my dad to finish up some stuff at the Garrison before to leave."

He nodded in agreement, realizing that his plans had taken a complete 180 in less than five minutes, all because of this short, nerdy girl who he found it hard to take his eyes off of. She was actually really pretty, even if others didn't see it. He noticed the beautiful amber color of her hair, eyes, and freckles, and he found it absolutely fascinating. And not just her looks, her personality was captivating too. She had this introverted side but always stood up for herself, and she had so many other amazing qualities that it would take forever to list them all.

To put it simply, she was a smart and beautiful girl with a vibrant spirit and a huge heart. And boy, was she courageous!

How could he not admire her? Heck, how could he not ADORE her?

But despite all that, she was the Paladin he felt the least close to. They had been through a lot together, but they never really had the chance to get to know each other well. He had a unique bond with each of the other Paladins. Shiro was like a big brother to him, Lance started by being annoying but became a friendly annoyance over time (they had known each other for a while, but Keith never really minded him), and he had a few missions with Hunk where they bonded... (Keith also knew Hunk at the Garrison, but just like Lance, he had never minded before...) He even had bonding moments with Allura!

He really wanted to get to know her better. He liked her a lot and hoped to spend some time with her. But she always seemed busy, and he didn't know how to start a conversation. But now was his chance!

"Alright, my mom said you can come over for dinner and stay the night if you want," she said, putting her phone back in her pocket and looking up at him.

"That's really kind of you... But why are you doing this exactly?" he asked.

"Keith, I couldn't let you starve or freeze to death. I would be genuinely sad, especially when I know I'll be having a nice dinner in a warm house," she replied with a light giggle. "Let's go find my dad and get going."

He smiled. "Okay, let's do that."

Domestic December Day 2 - Helping Each Other With Chores

Zephyr is doing the dishes but their joints are acting up so Ifrit helps them out. Then Mist joins them for cuddles.

Zephyr/Ifrit/Mist cuddles below the cut or on A03

Ifrit pokes his head into the kitchen. “Hey Zeph! Have you seen…bad pain day?”

Ifrit had been about to ask about Mist’s whereabouts but the grimace on the air ghoul’s face was more than enough to put that goal aside.

“Yeah.” They admit with a shrug, rubbing their lower back. “The cold weather isn’t doing me any favors. Just need to finish doing the dishes then I’ll go take a hot soak or something.”

“Want some help?”

Zephyr looks like they want to say no. That they’ve got it, but a sharp lance of pain through their hip betrays them. They duck their head shyly. “Only if you don’t mind.”

“Not at all Zeph.” Ifrit walks over and plants a gentle kiss between Zephyr’s horns before dunking his hands in the soapy dishwater. “I'll wash, you dry?”

“Sure.”

Ifrit gets to work washing the remaining dishes while Zephyr dries them, using their air magic in lieu of a towel. Together they put the dishes back in the cabinets. Once they're done, Ifrit shakes his hands dry and nuzzles the air ghoul.

“Still thinking about a soak?”

“Maybe. Water probably won’t stay warm long though.”

“Want to cuddle then? I can massage your joints and see if that helps a bit.”

Zephyr shakes their head. “I don’t want to bother you.”

Ifrit gently takes Zephyr’s face in his hands. “Zeph dear, you’re not a bother. Don’t ever think that. I’m offering because I care about you and want to help if possible. Besides, I was literally just looking for Mist because I know the cold is rough on her too. I was going to see if she wanted to cuddle.”

“Okay.” Zephyr relents. “Thanks Iffy.” They smile and bump their horns with Ifrit’s.

“Of course love. Let's go find Mist and get all comfy in bed.”

They do just that. They find Mist in her room, occupied with a book and wrapped in at least three blankets.

“Where have you been Iff?” She pouts. “I’m freezing my ass off in here.”

“Sorry, sorry.” He grins sheepishly. “Let's get you warmed up.”

The three of them settle in Ifrit's room after making a brief detour to Zephyr’s room so they can grab their favorite blankets. Mist just hauls her blankets with them. Ifrit sets a roaring fire in the hearth, and the room warms up nicely. The pile on the bed, wrapped in blankets and pillows. Ifrit is in the middle with Mist and Zephyr on either side hugging him for his warmth. He cranks up his internal temperature and the other two sigh happily.

“Want me to help massage those aches?” Ifrit asks.

Zephyr nods. “Please.”

Ifrit rolls over to face the air ghoul while Mist presses up against his back. Zephyr presses their face to Ifrit’s chest as he starts to rub their sore shoulders and back with warm hands.

Ifrit can feel them grit their teeth as he rubs. Zephyr can’t hold back a pained hiss as Ifrit’s hands press into a sore spot. Ifrit pulls back. “Doing okay? Too much pressure?”

“I’m fine.” They sigh. “It’s good, it just hurts.”

“I’m sorry love. You want me to keep going?”

“Uh huh. I’m okay.”

“Alright. Just let me know if you need me to stop.”

Zephyr nods and Ifrit’s hands return to their swollen muscles.

Slowly but surely, the air ghoul’s tension seems to ease. Ifrit whispers comforts and Mist throws an arm across the fire ghoul to scratch at Zephyr’s scalp. They begin to purr, soothed by their touches, hot and cold.

When Zephyr has practically melted in his hands, Ifrit eases off and just gently traces his fingers over the air ghoul’s back.

“Feeling better?”

“Lots. Thanks.” They mumble sleepily.

“Looks like it's nap time then.” Mist is yawning and Ifrit is struggling to keep his eyes open. “Let's get you some water and then we can sleep. Sound good?”

“Mmm huh.”

Ifrit helps Zephyr take a few sips from the water bottle on his nightstand and then settles back so Zephyr can rest their head on his chest. Mist rolls over and does the same. Ifrit wraps either arm around them and they all drift off to sleep.

hm don't have much to say on stuff like 'curses' it was fine and i liked 'the eye of pincosta' where rapunzel and stalyn team up that was interesting and i was pleasantly surprised to see stalyn really realise eugene isn't flynn anymore and that she sees why he loves rapunzel ... don't have much more to say on it tho

the great tree episodes ... why do i feel like i forgot everything that happened what important shit happened how did i forget </3 ok but anyway yay i was right about the whole quirin adira moon thing tho i guess it wasn't that hard to figure out huh .... i don't know why i doubted myself so hard

feel like 'rapunzel day one' could have some real angst potential if they were unable to get her memories back ... there's a fanfic idea in there somewhere ... i bet someone's already written something of the sort ... anyways i was a bit confused when watching the rest of the season maybe i zoned out during a piece of dialogue or something but i was convinced that like cassandra's arm was just permanently disabled when that wither spell occurred although i thiiink cassandra did slowly regain mobility right she said something like relearning how to use that arm again or something and ig that means it was slowly healing ... ? kinda hard to tell idk maybe i jsit didn't pay enough attention

ok the parts i really wanted to talk about the SHELL HOUSE EPSIODES OHMYFJCDODHDVS DUUUDEE I LOVED THOSE SO MUCH ok well the 'you're kidding me' one was just ok but it's the concepts and shit ok first . the mirror episode . i was normal and everything and then eugene calls pascal a chameleon and the dread sets in . i could feel my blood freeze over and chills down my spine oh my god from that point onward i was so freaked out and physically uncomfortable and it was AWESOME OHMYGOD AND THE ENDING the way mathews is just so chill and nonchalant about 'oh yeah did you meet the mirror people anyway you can leave if you want but it's raining pretty bad you can stay if you want do what you will' and they decide to stay for the night and the whistling along to lance's singing was so EERIE it made me so uncomfortable and the final shot of the tree revealing to have been deliberately cut down THAT WAS AWESOME m and it was especially spooky and mysterious to me bc ofc didn't know yet what was up with matthews just like . he seemed . relatively normal ? but obviously something was up he wanted something out of the protags but not knowing what it was yet it added that layer of spookiness .... the kid episode was ok but then the rapunzeltopia episode .... love the whole like 'struggling between a perfect but fake world or accepting the real one' and i reaalallluyy loved that at first and after a lot of fighting with herself between what she wants and what is real she actually does choose the fantasy and just how difficult it was for her to give it up in the end i find things like that really fascinating ...

hm i wonder what exactly happened to cass back in the shell house ... obviously something was up something was off but i love how they trick you with the whole prophecy of 'one of rapunzel's party will turn against her' and i especially love the specific wording choosing 'turn against her' and not using 'betray her' bc to betray is to turn against but to turn against is not necessarily to betray which is perfect for what actually happens ... bc of course with how weird cass is acting it's obvious she's the most likely candidate to betray rapunzel and then the person who you'd likely least suspect to turn against her is FREAKING EUGENE (which that whole thing i'll get to in a minute) and that makes you think 'oh surprise its him' and then he realises and goes back to her side AND THEN IT COMES BACK TO GET YOU IN THE END AND CASS REALKY DOES BETRAY HER that was so well done i think

ok so out of everything that has happened so far in the series , from magic rocks and hair to a 1000 year old soul possessing a monkey or other things that are probably more likely obvious to mention suspending your disbelief in , i find it almost comical how out of all things what has surprised me the most and i find the most unbelievable is EUGENE HAS PARENTS AND IS TECHNICALLY PRINCE OF THE DARK KINGDOM ???????? WHAT THE FUCK that genuinely shocked me so much its been several hours since then and i am still processing it honestly like . oh my god . to be honest i never really thought about or considered eugene's past or potential parents much i just accepted that he was an orphan and thief all his life before rapunzel came into the picture and that we would never know much about his past life and especially who his parents were i figured it wasn't ever gonna happen and it wasn't really all that important and i was fine with never knowing or putting much thought into it so i was absolutely gobsmacked jaw hitting the floor when edmund is like 'no luke i am your father' and i love how immediately my brain after this went 'OH MY GOD DOES THIS MEAN HE AND RAPUNZEL ARE LITERALLY MOON X SUN ?????' (and like ok he's not the moon the same way she is the sun but still) and that also made my brain explode again and not know how to feel about it like i am so torn between 'are you kidding me /neg' and 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME /pos'

ok i think i was gonna say something else but me thinking about the whole eugene thing is making my brain explode again i cannot express enough how much that completely shocked me like using hyperbole here a literal shock from a lightning bolt woudkve been less shocking than this revelation to me . i think it's just how much i did not ever consider such a thing at all ok moving on . i do have live reactions written down in my notes but i already pretty much recapped everything i said i'll post them anyway ...

really interested in what'll happen next season ... oh yeah i should probably mention i like cassandra c: i think she's cool can't believe i kinda forgot to mention her earlier and i like that the importance of her and rapunzel's relationship is touched on here and there ... no idea what to expect next season so i guess that's all for now haha ... oh below are the live reactions i wrote down while watching ... as i mentioned they're pretty much everything i already said but more 'in the moment' i guess ... if you wanna read that ...

I got into writing miraculous and VLD au’s when I was twelve years old, and have been writing fan-fiction ever since — although now most of my published works are Marvel/MCU and SWR fics. 😅 (I managed to age out of my miraculous phase (thank god) before season 4, and gave up on the VLD fandom after watching its toxicity from afar, and then the process of the fandom slowly dying off 🥲). In COVID, I made a glee fan account on insta that later turned into a multi fandom account just for me to archive and delete everything 💀💀💀 but it also led me to start writing on ao3 under the same name (rain_cloudsx). I use scrivener, and a good portion of my unpublished fics never get past chapter two… and then the ones I do post, I still struggle to update… whoops? 😅

I was also a part of the “gay insta community” (is that a thing?) from (I want to say) 2020 to 2023, and was a main poster on a shared lgbtq+ account, so now I’ve wasted a portion of my brain remembering hundreds of niche terms and identities, which will never come up in a conversation again. 🤣🤣 (You have no idea how hard it was to stay silent and not correct a friend when she said demisexual was when you lose attraction to someone after getting to know them 😭😭 I couldn’t act like I’d memorised the entire asexual spectrum when I’m not ace-spec or aro-spec and instead was an autistic tryhard “educator” in my teens 😭😭😭). For a while I thought I could be genderflux, genderfluid, or at least somewhat agender/genderless, but I honestly don’t know anymore. She/her pronouns are good, I’ve always been fine with they/them, and occasionally, I like he/him — and this is regardless of if I’m a woman or agender, I genuinely do not care about pronouns. Right now, I just say I’m a woman because it’s easier, although I do somewhat still identify with the genderqueer, agender, and gender-fuck communities — I’m just not deep down in the activism and educating side of it anymore — the emotional burnout is real.

Session 2: Sat 9 December 2023

Slightly late start due to Yours Truly sitting here waiting for their phone to ring instead of checking Discord. Lol. And off we go!

Cheese jokes and then some WhatsApp mute button japery. And now we’re off for real this time. Mialee and Wee Jock catch us up, yay! They had a much nicer journey than we did, possibly thanks to us clearing a path for them.

“Who’s the new girl? And the goblin?” Wee Jock asks as they arrive. Valeros is walking off to the north as they arrive. Skabb grabs his ankles. It is early morning by this point, and we see this off in the trees, which is clearly what Valeros is looking at:

She sees him looking at her and runs off; he follows and so do we. We think he might have been entranced. There is a flash of light - and Valeros stops. The nymph steps into a tree and disappears. Valeros announces that he can’t see. Halbrecht will give him a look over to see if there’s anything he can do about the blindness. We all wrack our brains to see if we know anything about nymphs; they can do an ability called Blinding Beauty. Well, that tracks.

Halbrecht casts Restoration on Valeros.

“Get out of our woods!” someone shouts in Sylvan. Rude. Wee Jock pretends to knock down a tree with his hammer. Something appears…

Skabb tells them we are just passing through. Wee Jock asks where the goblin village is.

Why so angry, friend? asks Skabb.

These are our woods, we don’t want you here.

We’re trying to go north to the gobbo village.

Leave now, we are told. We’re trying to!

We scooch past, keeping an eye on the thing as we go. They apparently don’t attack.

The rest of the day is uneventful. As evening draws in we hear wolves howling in the distance. We make camp, in spite of the wolves seeming closer to us. Wee Jock suggests we stay bunched together. We do that, and ready attacks. Valeros can’t see, but he’s happy because the cold ‘makes him look taut’.

The wolves approach, and Skabb sees these two:

Halbrecht and Zorya ready actions, and Zorya recalls knowledge about wolves. They could be a number of things (barghests, dire wolves…) but she’s not sure.

(There’s a lot of Gloucestershire accented “‘Ello my love!” but I miss the context.)

A wolf appears - Halbrecht looses his Divine Lance and Zorya crits with her composite shortbow for 17 damage!

The wolf lunges at Halbrecht and tries to get him in its jaws. He takes 8 piercing damage from its teeth as it snatches him up. The other wolf appears…

It attacks Wee Jock with a 26; he doesn’t need to check his character sheet for that. Oh fuck there’s a third! It grabs Skabb in its mouth. And another giant wolf…

This one takes an action to seek out Zorya, but she crits her stealth check. Not today, bitch! (She forgot about her sneak attack damage… she rolls it now for another 8 damage. “Howdy doodis?” she asks optimistically, but is disappointed.)

Skabb makes an escape attempt, rolling a 14. She wants to cast Pummeling Rubble down the neck of the wolf holding her:

It is ruled that she can’t aim it down its neck, even though a wolf full of rocks would be hilarious, so she retracts the spell. She does Burning Hands instead. It crits its save. Skabb just sort of… settles in.

We hear a voice in our heads. We are heading for the goblin village, yes? “Ow,” we reply. If we bring them the head of the chief goblin they will spare us.

Zorya tries to reply to one of them to tell it that we don’t negotiate with terrorists, but the wolf just seems confused. So they’re being controlled…? Another wolf, this one with glowing eyes, approaches and says “You can have a minute to think.”

Mialee takes a shot for a 31. She gets sneak attack damage, too! She makes a Stealth check; dirty 20.

Wee Jock is being gently chewed. He considers sliding down the wolf’s throat and doing damage with his warhammer. He Rages, but there’s no button on his character sheet for that. He has the Titan Wrestler feat though, he realises, and sets about beating the wolf around the head. (I am told to tell him off; I do, even though I’m not sure why. There must be a reason.)

Halbrecht does Searing Light, quote, “because it’s exciting”. He casts it into the mouth of the wolf holding him. There’s a discussion about flanking and whether Wee Jock can do that from inside the mouth of another wolf. The wolf drops Halbrecht and he uses his last action to hit it with his hammer. There are a lot of red numbers.

Zorya makes a break for it and climbs a tree, taking a shot at one of the wolves from in the branches. Luckily none of them are able to attack her as she goes. Halbrecht’s wolf attacks him again and gets him back in its mouth. It then shakes the fuck out of him:

He rolls too low on his save, tries to insist that he adds 12 to everything he rolls, is universally disbelieved and takes his 9 damage.

Skabb’s wolf does the same thing; she rolls a 28 and only takes half damage. The wolf shakes her twice more, and she fails the next two saves. Wee Jock’s wolf does the same, but it rolls low damage so the little sack of scar tissue probably doesn’t even notice.

A wolf goes over to Zorya’s tree and leaps - snatching her up into its jaws. “Ah shit.”

Skabb casts Vomit Swarm and crits:

Then Grabby Cat flies into the ear of the wolf with the glowing eyes. She asks it why it wants to eat the gobbo.

Nasty goblin chief killed lots and lots of my kin, she is told. She has a little chat with it, tries to persuade it that it doesn’t want to continue this attack. It responds by running up to the wolf holding Wee Jock in its jaws and attacking the gnome. And again.

Mialee wants to shoot the one with the gold eyes, but goes for the one holding Wee Jock instead. It drops him! She shoots it again, and kills it! She re-hides. DM: “Wise.”

Wee Jock, still raging, moves on to the next closest enemy as is his tradition. He will continue in this vein until they are dead or he is. The next closest happens to be the golden-eyed one. Does Rage add five to his attack at all? No, but the next attack is better. His third is also bad. He asks for a Hero Point to re-roll it. Then asks for a Hero Point for having the ballsiness to ask for a Hero Point, and gets one! He uses it to attack again, but rolls even worse. Next turn he is going to grapple it by the legs.

Halbrecht has to put his cheese down for his turn. He’s used a lot of his spells now. He does Spiritual Weapon. If it hits it will do 6 damage. “My spells are rubbish, [DM].” It does apparently just hit, though, there is no attack roll or saving throw. He uses his last action to Heal himself.

Zorya wriggles out of her wolf’s mouth, shimmies back up the tree and hides. “Acrobatics? I’m good at that.” She rolls a 26. Skabb: “She’s a cocky little shit, this girl.”

A wolf bites at Wee Jock and grabs hold, and shakes him. He fails the save, but only takes half damage. (He’s still not even close to his favourite hit point.)

Grabby Cat tells the glowy-eyed wolf that we have a magic acorn… She makes a Diplomacy check of 16. It tells her to show it the acorn; She flies over to Skabb to take it, then flies back to the wolf and show it. The wolf howls, and the rest of them drop those of us who are in their mouths. If they see us again, they will eat us. They are bound to honour this, but only once.

We do some healing, and make camp. Wee Jock wants to sacrifice some trees. So he does. He hadn’t finished.

We consult the map and continue on. Skabb smells something delicious; the rest of us smell something disgusting. We hear terrible, tone-deaf singing as well as we approach Pinereek:

The goblins catch sight of us and start scurrying around the town and pulling up ladders; we hear a gong sound and a balcony opens, and this gentleman appears:

“Well, daughter, what do you bring to my village?” he says to Skabb in goblin.

“Ugly friends!” she replies.

He points at Wee Jock. “Scouts say this one a hiss-fittler.” He points at the rest of us, expressing various concerns about our behaviour. We promise (lying) to behave.

He will let us go and see the witch. He points to a hut, out of which purple smoke is pouring from the chimney. Skabb offers Zorya and Mialee a silver piece each to behave. They reluctantly agree.

Wee Jock displays a middle finger, as evidence that they aren’t crossed as he also promises to behave.

The door swings open as we approach, and this appears:

She addresses Skabb as daughter, as well! She calls for her “ugly apprentice”, who also appears:

They insult Zorya for a while and nearly get stabbed, but then Skabb changes the subject to ask them to help cure Valeros’ blindness. (Zorya makes up her mind to steal at least one thing from here before they leave.)

They take out some foul-smelling gunk and tell him to put it in his eyes. He says it smells like it’s going to make him ugly! They tell him not to worry. Smooth skins (?) couldn’t be uglier if they tried! Skabb finds this hilarious, and slaps the stuff on Valeros’s face.

We ask about the sorceress.

Valeros asks who teaches the wise ones magic. He is too old and too boy to be taught magic. Skabb is small and young and girl. She needs a kayak. (I think?)

She must pass a trial to meet the kayak. We must all do it together. There’s a fun game for us to play!

We take her hideous apprentice with us, she will take us to a cave outside which is a guardian made of ice. Defeat the guardian and we can meet the kayak.

The group is warned to keep an eye on Zorya and make sure she doesn’t steal anything. They are watching her like a hawk; “You are all underestimating how good I am at stealing things.”

What will we need to take with us? Skabb asks her to take us to a good place to get provisions, and we leave it there for tonight. Wee Jock wants to know if he can have something made of cold iron, in case we run into any more fey. “Something blunt. Basically a hammer.” He must find something delicious from the woods as payment.

We must also bring some familiars with us, Klipp Klopp and Yhaaki:

so they aren’t really in the story of starlight express, it’s just the &j universe but they’re all trains. verona is primarily steamers with some diesels, while paris has almost all electric engines

juliet’s an observation car like pearl, lord and lady capulet are also coaches but tybalt is a diesel engine. the capulets dont want juliet to race at all, but she goes behind their back and races with may all the time (they’re really good together)

angelique is a steamer, and she was actually a racer back in paris when she was younger, which is how she met lance. he was a champion and very popular, and he asked her to come work for the dubois family when she stepped down from racing. but eventually she had to leave and went to verona, working for the capulets. she never really liked their attitude about racing and helps juliet keep the fact that she races hidden

may is also a steam train, and angelique found them abandoned not far from verona’s racetrack when they were little and took them in. when they became an adult they weren’t allowed to stay in the capulet house anymore but they’re still over there practically all the time.

frankie and lance are both electric engines. i don’t have concrete designs for anyone but lance would definitely look more like pre-2018 electra and frankie would look more like revival electra. frankie’s been trained by his father to become a racer, but he and all of his partners (the girls lance has been trying to set him up with) don’t really get along well so he hasn’t been doing great. also all the electrics have screen-like eyes in this au!!

romeo’s a caboose, mercutio’s a gravel hopper, and benvolio’s a brick truck. the capulet/montague feud is also a coach/freight feud in this universe, and romeo is seen as especially untrustworthy because cabeese had a reputation for crashing trains. he doesn’t do this though, but it still discourages a lot of people from racing with him (until he meets frankie!! they team up and become race partners when he gets to paris)

anne is a passenger car and william is an electric passenger engine. they ended up verona independently of each other but reunited in paris after following their respective groups (anne with juliet, may, and angelique and shakespeare with romeo)

there’s not a very straightforward plot to it, but it does have juliet, may, anne, and angelique end up in paris together at a giant racing stadium (like the renaissance ball) where juliet + may and anne + angelique race in their tournament, juliet + may win and run into frankie because he lost (and angelique and lance see each other again). also there’s a maycois whistle at me scene because frankie hasn’t ever met a steam train or heard a train whistle before and he hears may’s and thinks it’s beautiful.

that’s most of it i do have a little mini fic collection for it on ao3 but i haven’t done a lot with this au since winter
