genuinely confused why so many people are saying things like “i’m tired of the will they won’t they i wish they would just tell us if it’s gonna happen or not” (kinda defeats the purpose of will they won’t they?) or from the bummy stans “i wish they would shut down buddie fans once and for all” (both real posts i saw)
just wondering how y’all think watching a show is supposed to work? they aren’t going to come out and say either way until it happens in the show, don’t know why you would think it should go any other way.
they aren’t going to do an interview about episode 7 just to say “yeah tommy’s here for now but don’t worry he’ll be gone and we’ll get buddie going” like that’s not how it works, interviews in the middle of a season are purposefully vague and sometimes intentionally misleading, that’s kinda the point. this isn’t the type of show they want you to be able to predict, of course they’ll mislead us on purpose when they get the chance.
it’s very unlikely that any interview will reveal where the show is taking this, and no interviews yet have said strictly one way or the other so i’m not sure why people are acting like they have

#came across a post where op said they were tired of waiting for b*ddie and they don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet#and i feel like these people are sooo close to getting it but refuse to grasp it because that would mean they wasted their time for+#something that isn’t coming and never was supposed to#‘why hasn’t it happened yet??’ because they don’t want to make it happen hope this helps!#because as i’ve said before they absolutely could suddenly pivot and make it happen sometime down the line (which would require buy that+#i’m fairly certain they don’t have)#but it’s been very clear for a while that it isn’t currently in the works or being planned#it’s not a slowburn because there’s nothing burning! the oven isn’t even on!#i am astounded that people can sit here and delude themselves into believing that there’s this grand plan in place to make b*ddie canon#when we have seen how tim operates for years and know he doesn’t plan things out like this#hell bi buck literally wasn’t going to happen until he couldn’t get lucy back on the show!#if you’re sitting around and watching the show just waiting for b*ddie to happen then i suggest you bow out sooner rather than later#(like i was going to after season 6! i saw the writing on the wall and was ready to dip. bi buck drew me back in.)#never say never but it clearly isn’t the cards right now and likely never will be#also something random but related to the above that i’ve been thinking about#i’m a little surprise b*ddie shippers weren’t more angry about 7x04#because uh… they were kinda (ship) baited a little lol#the whole episode sort of built it up that buck was jealous of tommy because of his closeness to eddie#but it’s revealed at the end that it’s the direct opposite lol#maybe that’s why so many have been in denial about it being tommy’s attention that buck wanted because otherwise they’d have to admit they+#were baited lmao#because at first even i was a little unsure if tommy’s attention was the only one he wanted (and i was pretty sure going in that tommy was+#the one buck was crushing on)#but both tim and oliver made it pretty clear that it was about tommy and not eddie after the fact#so lmao#anyway#ignore me

Anyone saying that Tommy is just convenient, he’s just a stepping stone, or Buck is confused and projecting his feelings for Eddie onto Tommy. Denial is not a river in Africa.
Buck didn’t just roll out of bed one morning and decide “I am declaring myself to be bisexual! And starting today, I’m looking for a guy”
Buck has ALWAYS been bisexual. So the whole time we have known Evan Buckley, he has been attracted to men.
However, it’s very likely had never really sat with and processed what to do about that attraction prior to meeting Tommy. Never acted on it prior to Tommy. Never made it as obvious to anyone before Tommy.
In retrospect, the signs were definitely there, before Tommy.
The catalyst for the change? Is Tommy.
He made the conscious decision to go see Tommy when he had no damn reason to. He wasn’t thinking of leaving the 118, he just wanted a reason to see him again. I don’t think Buck actively processing “I want to date this man” he just wanted “something” and Tommy was part of that something. But he had no damn idea how to get his brain wrapped around what exactly he was planning to do with those feelings “Huh, this is more…what do I do now?” Hence the basketball game.
And I don’t know if it was before Tommy came over or if seeing Tommy standing there in his apartment made those pieces finally click into place for Buck.
(Personally I’m leaning toward that “Well not at the same time” response to teaching him Muay Thai. Because there was no mistaking THAT look that Tommy gave him)
Because if you have ever been into someone and are even the tiniest bit queer, you saw that dance for exactly what it was.
The subtle signs, the shifting in atmosphere, the carefully chosen words, way their bodies started mirroring each other as they moved closer.
Tommy having more experience with this dance, started getting the inkling this may be going SOMEWHERE...So he took that chance and dropped the “Well probably not at the same time”with THAT look. That look was a whole sentence.
Now Buck’s awakening bisexuality, understood that look. And those butterflies starting flying and he stepped right up and said “I have been trying to get your attention”
He decided THIS man. Right here. Is the one that I want enough- choose to just lay it all out for.
Now for any baby bi THAT is a big damn leap. Because you think you know..But you don’t have the experience to know if you’re reading the signs right.
Brass Tacks my lovelies is..
Buck wanted Tommy..he wasn’t entirely sure for what. But he knew it was Tommy specifically.
And if you think he’s projecting his feelings about Eddie onto Tommy. Go back and look at that first episode Eddie shows up at the 118 in.
Buck wanted to be in that firefighter calendar, and he saw Eddie as competition to getting that which he wanted. Eddie was his competition. Did he recognize that he was competition because he also looked hot af?
Yep.
So when Tommy catches Bucks interest, once again Buck finds himself in competition against Eddie for the thing he wants, which this time is Tommy’s attention. And because Eddie is his best friend, and he knows Eddie is awesome. In Bucks head, Eddie is worthy competition for Tommy’s attention. It doesn’t matter that Eddie isn’t interested in Tommy the same way Buck is.
If it were Eddie that Buck really wanted, why tf hadn’t he asked Eddie to teach him Muay Thai? They’ve been friends for years. Why had Buck not been interested in the basketball game prior to Tommy’s appearance??
Buck is bi. And it was the hot dish casserole that is Tommy Kinard that made all those little “huh” moments click into “well that’s makes sense” place.
So stop playing at being flat earthers.

9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4: Was Buck lying when he said he was trying to get Tommy's attention?
I'm a little frustrated about the people who said that Buck was lying when he said he was trying to get Tommy's attention because according to them, he was trying to get Eddie's attention not Tommy's, and the argument they use is the gym scene...
I'm frustrated because I want to ask them: "Have you guys never watched a TV show, ever?"
TV showrunners have different way of structuring their episodes, some episodes are set up to be emotionnal, some are set up to be dramatic or romantic, some are heavy on the action scenes and some are meant to get a surprised reaction by introducing a plot twist the audience didn't see coming. It can be a big plot twist like the finale of the 1st season of the Good Place or it can be a smaller one like in this episode of 911.
And whenever they want to set up a plot twist, the writers will put small hints along the way, that are not obvious right away but will contribute to the "ah" moment when everything clicks into place after the plot twist is finally revealed.
The whole point of the episode was for people to think Buck was trying to get Eddie's attention because he was jealous of his best friend spending time with someone else and BAM, it's revealed that in fact it was the "someone else" Buck had been interested in all along.
And if you look closely, there are clues throughout the episode showing that it was about Tommy all along.
1. Buck asking Tommy for a tour.
At first we think that Buck was just testing the waters and thinking about switching jobs but at the end of the episode Buck reveals it's because he was trying to get Tommy's attention.
Moreover, a lot of people assume Buck was disappointed because Tommy left with Eddie and he was jealous about Eddie. But if you pay attention, Buck's smile drops the moment Tommy turns him down for drinks, and that was even before he saw Eddie in the car.
Tumblr media
2. Buck's rant to Maddie
Buck was complaining about Eddie spending time with Tommy and even going to a basketball game with him.
And later when he talked to Maddie after accident accidentally injuring Eddie, he admitted he did it because he felt left out and was trying to get "his" attention.
But in retrospective, he never specified who he was trying to get attention from. He could have meant Eddie or Tommy.
And it's confirmed that he was indeed talking about Tommy when he says this.
Tumblr media
3. The gym scene
We all assumed Buck was trying to get Eddie's attention when he was at the gym because he wanted to spend more time with him. But if Buck had wanted to hang out with Eddie, he would have just asked, they're best friends. Buck ordered the basket Ball because he wanted to be invited to the basketball game because Tommy would be there. Same for the karaoke. Buck never had a problem with asking Eddie to hang out, the only differentiating factor here is Tommy.
Tumblr media
Why would Buck suddenly be so awkward around Eddie? He was trying to get an invite so he could see and when it didn't work he asked Chimney.
4. The basketball game
Buck admitted that he accidentally hurt Eddie because he was trying to get Tommy's attention.
Tumblr media
5. The "big reveal"
Up until the very end of the episode we were made to believe Buck was being jealous of his best friend having a new best friend.
Even Tommy thought so.
Tumblr media
It's not until Buck reveals he wanted to get to know Tommy and was trying to get his attention that everything clicks into place for the audience and we understand why Buck was acting like that.
We weren't watching someone being jealous over his best friend spending time with someone else but someone acting like a fool because he had a crush.
TL:DR: Buck was trying to get Tommy's attention all along. The show just set up the episode in a way that would lead to a plot twist, a "big" reveal and a romantic kiss.
What do you guys think? Was Buck trying to get Eddie's attention as well?

Fuck-It Friday Coda
Tagged by the amazing @hippolotamus @jesuisici33 @wikiangela and @tizniz (who dropped a whole new fic!) Thank you so much! Hope you all are just as hyped for bi-buck as I am!!!!!!! Not much to say than what's being said everywhere for 7x04. Here is my coda this historic episode and it can be read on ao3 as well. Enjoy!
It’s never really a surprise anymore whenever Buck runs into Tommy at the 118’s favorite hook and ladder bar. Hell, before they broke up, Tommy took him to this bar on a couple dates. Awkward dates but dates all the same.
Buck is waiting for the latest rounds of drinks at the bar when a familiar hand lands on his shoulder, “Hey Evan.”
He whirls around and comes face to face with the very man that opened Buck up to whole new world. “H-h-hey Tommy.” He greets nervously, gaze flickering over to where his team, Maddie, Athena, and some friends from dispatch sat.
Tommy catches it and smirks, “Here with the entire crew huh? What’s the cause for this meet up? Didn’t see or hear about any big Buckley heroics over the radio waves.”
Buck finally catches Eddie attention, and his partner stiffens slightly at the sight of Tommy. They were all still friends, mostly, but after the pilot ended things with Buck, sides were taken… in more ways than one.
“You lied back then. In your loft, before I kissed you.” Tommy stated, staring out the hanger doors, hands shoved deep into his flight suit’s pockets.
Wretchedness gripped Buck’s throat tightly. He knew where this was headed, and for just the briefest moment he wanted to fight it. Fight for what he and Tommy had. “I didn’t lie. I wanted to get to know you, I thought-I still think you are cool, and I just wanted you see that.” His voice was high and tight with the brittle lie.
Tommy shook his head and Buck caught his grimacing smile, “Buck you need to stop lying to yourself and open your damn eyes. I have and you want to know what I saw?” His voice cracked with anguish.
Buck’s lower lip trembled, and he could feel the prickle of tears. He didn’t want to know. He didn’t want to face it. Because if he opened his eyes to what Tommy is seeing, the despair would be 10 times worse than what he’s facing at the time.
Always the bravest of two of them, Tommy scoffed at Buck’s silence and pushed on, “You weren’t vying for my attention. You never have. Evan you never did any sort of chasing in this relationship, I did. I so was blinded by how endearing and open you were about your best friend, that I failed to see you misplacing you’re confused emotions onto the nearest person showing you affection. Me.”
The tears began to flow when Buck shook his head, “No Tommy. I liked you; I just didn’t know about that part of myself until you showed it to me.”  He tried defending.
His boyfriend snorted, “Liked. Past. Not present.”
And Buck’s heart dropped into his gut.
Finally, Tommy looked at him and everything in his stomach becomes rancid at the utter heartbreak on the older man’s face, “I’m glad I could help you embrace your bisexuality. Truly I am. I know how freeing it can be.  But Evan, those feelings you’ve have for men, for that one special man have always been there and instead of facing them, you took the easy way out with me. And fuck man, it hurts. It really does.”
“Tommy…” Buck started, but Tommy’s hand gripping his wrist silenced him.
“Evan-Buck. Its-well it’s not entirely okay, but you didn’t know or see and neither did I. At least not until you came back from Chim’s bachelor party. You two couldn’t even look each other in the eye and you’ve been off since.”
That’s because he and Eddie got into the biggest fight of their lives during Chimney’s bachelor weekend.  Because Eddie had been acting off since Buck came out, even though he promised nothing would change. Because Buck once again became enviously green when Eddie kept his attention on the private bar tender. Because Eddie looked Buck in the eye and asked, ‘Why does he get that part of you?’ in the middle of their screaming match that Buck still has no idea how it started but ended there. Because they both walked away, too scared to confront any of those feelings. Because Buck knew deep down, he wanted to give everything he was giving to Tommy, to Eddie and so much more.
“You are such a wonderful man Buck and I know it was never your intention to hurt anyone. But us being together, it’s destroying me and you and...” Tommy sucked in a sharp breath, “And Eddie.”
And there it was. Everything that Buck has been denying since Tommy confronted him in his loft.  The person who was really behind Buck’s complex and confused emotions those few months ago. It was time Buck accepted it. It was time to open his eyes. It was time to let Tommy go.
Buck let out a sob and tugged Tommy into a tight embrace, “I’m sorry, I really am.”
Tommy sniffled, “You have nothing to apologize for Evan.” He pulled back and put Buck at arm’s length, giving him a wet smile, “I was more than honored to be your queer awakening and guru.”
Buck barked out a soggy laugh, “You turned my entire world on its axis man, but in the best way possible.”
“You’re a special one Evan and Eddie… god what you two have and what it can be.” Tommy shook his head chuckling, “I can’t stand in the way of that anymore.”
The younger firefighter stuttered out a breath, “I think that’s more on me than you.” And gets a hum of agreement from his now ex-boyfriend. He stuck a hand out, “Friends?”
Tommy didn’t even hesitate and slapped his own hand into Buck’s, squeezing tight, “Absolutely. Just give me some time, and yourself as well.”
Buck took two days after the break-up to mourn what had been his best relationship to date, to wallow in his unknown carelessness, and to confront those mixed emotions that drew him to Tommy in the first place. Then he packed his duffle and went to work.
Chimney was the first to confront him since Tommy turned down a night out at the karaoke bar and explained that he and Buck broke up. Hen followed because those two paramedics tell each other everything. Bobby reminded Buck that he was willing to listen before giving his shoulder a squeeze. Ravi seemed, relieved, but sympathetic. And Eddie pulled him into the tightest embrace asking, “Why?”
Buck didn’t give him the entire answer. Simply stated, “It wasn’t working.”
Months later Buck gave him the entire truth by taking a page out Tommy’s book and kissing Eddie senseless with a firm grip on his chin.  Eddie, who was babbling away in his kitchen about not seeing what was in front of him and desperate to know if Buck is willing to give Eddie every part of himself, kissed Buck back with ferocity. When they pulled apart Buck finally told him why Tommy ended things, “He saw what we were all too scared to look at.”
That was almost a month ago and Buck is deliriously happy with his life, with his boyfriend, with Eddie. He doesn’t need to be weird or nervous around the man that helped lead him here.  So, he winks at Eddie, telling him it’s all good, and gives his attention to Tommy. “No big newsworthy rescues. Though Chimney did rescue his 100th cat.”
Tommy shakes his head laughing, “An almost impossible feat.”
“Very much so.” Buck comments, “We’re here to celebrate Maddie’s promotion at dispatch. Officially a supervisor.”
“Hey good for her!” Tommy exclaims, “Honestly surprised it took this long. Her voice seems to be on all the major calls lately.”
Buck nods, “Yea. Would have been a different ending for all of us after the bridge collapse last year if it weren’t for my sister.”
“Man, you Buckley’s and your heroism.”
Buck blushes, Tommy Kinnard always the charmer. The other man smirks, knowing the effect he has on him still. “You look good Buck. Happy. Wouldn’t have anything to do with a certain firefighter that’s all over your Instagram lately? Hm?”
As if summoned by Tommy’s mere mention of him, a red Henley covered arm snakes its away around Buck’s waist and warmth lines up along his back. “Hey Tommy, good to see yuh man.” Eddie greets smoothly before nuzzling close to Buck’s ear, “Get that drink order in yet babe?” He asks just loud enough to be overheard by certain people close by.
The pilot’s smirk broadens, but gives a friendly slap to Eddie’s back, “Good to see yuh too Diaz. Been a minute.”
Eddie nods and his nose moves along Buck’s jaw at the movement, making him tremble, “It has. Maybe we can meet up to spar sometime.”
Before his bisexual awakening and the admittance of his true feelings, hearing his boyfriend make plans with another man would have sent him on a downward spiral. Now, thanks in part to Tommy, Eddie, his sister, and the entirety of the 118, but mostly himself, Buck is secure and at peace with his place in their lives, in Eddie’s life.
But that still doesn’t stop his big hearted, ever thoughtful boyfriend from asking, “I know I’ve only taught you the basics, but you could join Evan.”
Buck leans back into Eddie’s embrace and brushes his lips against his partner’s cheek, “Hmm. I’d rather go for the title on more equal grounds, and I really want to save myself the embarrassment of Tommy seeing my ass get kicked.”
His ex snorts out a laugh, while Eddie’s cheeks pinken at Buck’s innuendo of the actual kind of sweaty, half naked situation they want to be in. “Still shameless as ever huh Evan?” Tommy comments.
Buck shrugs, “Nothing to be ashamed of. My boyfriend is hot and I prefer to have my ass handed to me in more intimate ways. But you two can kick, spin, and punch your little hearts out. I’ll enjoy some time with Christopher, maybe even take him to a field and play the much superior sport, football.”
“God you really do not like basketball huh?” Tommy retorts with a shake of his head, probably remembering the first and last time they played, ending with Buck almost breaking Eddie’s ankle in a confused jealous rage.
“I won’t let him near anything orange and spherical.” Eddie jokes giving Buck a tight squeeze. “But if you are up to it, I would love to come over and go a few rounds. You do have a pretty sweet set up.”
The LAFD piolet grins, “Bring the Chevelle too, we can give it a once over.”
Buck makes a mental reminder to give the back seat of said car a good cleaning because the last time he and Eddie drove it out, Buck took Eddie apart in back seat and a t-shirt wipe down definitely did not suffice as ‘clean up’.
Eddie clears his throat, and his blush deepens. Yea, he’s thinking the same. “Sounds good. I’ll shoot you text and set up a time.”
Knowing the conversation is coming to an end, Buck flags down the bar tender before looking over at Tommy, “You should join us. Drinks are on,” He pauses trying to remember who lost the credit card roulette and laughs when it comes to him, “Drinks are on Josh.”
Tommy softens at the invitation, “Drinks with the 118, haven’t done that in a while. I’m in. Miller lite to start.”
Buck laughs, “Yea I know. Go join the others, Eddie and I got this.”
“Yea, I know you do. BuckandEddie, the dream team. Happy for you both, truly.” Tommy kindly states, then gives a shoulder pat to the two of them before strolling away to join the 118 and dispatchers. They faintly hear loud cheers and greetings when he gets close, their friends and family always happy to see the man who put his life and career on the line for them.
Buck places their drink order and when the bar tender slides away, Eddie pulls him back into his chest and growls into his ear, “You may not be green with envy anymore, but I sort of am.”
A shiver runs down Buck’s spine at his boyfriend’s possessive tone and knew all too well that their time at the bar was going to be short lived…unless.
“It’s no Chevelle, but the jeep is parked pretty close.” Buck breathlessly tells him.
Eddie gives him a wicked grin, “You want to take me in the jeep?”
“Wanna go for another title?”
I put in so many references from the episode and previous episodes too, as mini celebration to the 100th episode. Hope you all enjoyed! Everyone who watches 911 is entitled to have their opinions on the show. Good, bad, or indifferent. This goes the same for Buddie. But don't assume you can make posts talking about how "willfully delusional" you think people in your own fandom are simply because we're talking our cues from the show (and the people involved in it) and seeing the signs of Buddie canon without any push back.
I‘ve been watching this show for years and in my opinion we have never been closer to Buddie canon than we are now. This isn’t just fans seeing what we want to see this is everything that’s gone on with the show, it's creators, and cast since the promo for s7 started.
Before s7 even started Ryan and Oliver were doing tons of press together. There was more talk of Buddie than had ever been previously. We had Ryan and Oliver talking at the s7 premiere about how Buddie's relationship was changing and how they were going to be getting even closer.
During s7 we had more Buddie scenes than we had in recent seasons and not just like scenes of them working together but scenes that cemented their relationship and showed them becoming even closer than they'd been. Scenes like Eddie relying on Buck to help with Chris (multiple times during the season). Scenes like Buck talking about how worried he was about Eddie during the Kim stuff.
It's even more clear that Buddie canon is where things are headed when you look at how Tim chose to handle B/T vs Buddie in s7. If Tim was planning on making B/T a long term ship there were so so many times he could have done more to develop them and he didn't instead the development was put into Buddie.
704 was not about Buck trying to get T*mmy's attention it was about Buck having these big intense emotions he didn't know how to deal with or really understand (because they were about his best friend) and misplacing them onto T*mmy. If Buddie wasn't a part of the plan I don't believe Tim would have ever even included Eddie in that episode especially not the way he did. It would seriously be one of the stupidest moves the show could make. They know how much of their audience ships Buddie, hell people who don't even watch the show talk about Buddie.
Plus it's obvious that Buddie's karaoke scene in 706 was supposed to be a parallel to Maddie and Chim starting to realize their feelings for one another in 208 (when they did karaoke). But the karaoke scene was pulled once they were renewed for s8 when they likely decided to pause on Buddie happening and Eddie coming out until they had more time. Why else would they have them singing a karaoke duet to a love song (in Madney's wedding episode no less) if Buddie canon was never going to happen?
Then you had the very domestic scene in 707 with Buck commenting on Eddie's cologne and throwing food into his mouth. And zero mention of T*mmy in the entire episode. Then in 709 you had Buck looking at Eddie (not T*mmy) when he got his award. In 710 it was Eddie by Buck's side the whole time Bobby was at the hospital and the only scene B/T got was that dinner scene which didn't do one single thing to further develop that relationship.
Back to the bts of it all. Oliver liked and commented on Buddie stuff throughout s7. He also posted Ryan often on his stories. Most importantly he posted a pic of him and Ryan on the basketball court after the B/T kiss in 704. If I remember correctly after the B/T dinner scene in 710 he also posted something to do with Buddie too.
You also had Oliver saying in interviews that he sees what Buddie fans sees and we're not wrong. He also talked about Buddie as how it could work if it happens. Ryan also talked about Buddie happening and said it was baby steps for them to get there. Ryan also said in one interview (can't remember the exact wording) but it was something about who should lead like who should come out first and it was decided it was going to be Buck. But the way he worded it was very clear that both of them are supposed to come out not just one. Lou also talked about how it was originally going to be Eddie getting the queer storyline (with T*mmy) and instead they decided on it being Buck. Lou also talked early on about Buddie and B/T as T*mmy being someone that is basically getting Buck ready for Buddie.
I firmly believe that Oliver would not be interacting with Buddie stuff nor talking about Buddie as much as he has in interviews if he knew Buddie was never going to happen. He's said point blank before he stopped talking about Buddie in the past because he didn't want the fans to feel led on. I think this is part of why he hasn't really interacted with B/T shippers or anything much to do with that ship. He knows it's not meant to last and he doesn't want those fans to feel like he's lying to them.
I know people look at Ryan calling Eddie heterosexual during some of his s7 interviews as a sign that Buddie isn't going to happen but as soon as s7 was over and he had a couple of interviews he started using gender neutral phrasing and saying things like "partner". There was also an interview where he talked about how Buck is basically taking Shannon's place.
Now as we've started to get promo stuff for s8 a lot of the social media stuff has been revolving around Ryan and Oliver with it leaning more towards Ryan. This is similar to how it was for s7 only things were leaning more towards Oliver because of everything that took place with Buck. It's clear that Eddie is going to have a big storyline this season and it can't just be that he's missing Chris or going back to religion.
ABC and Tim know how popular Buddie is and they know how huge it will be for the show and their network to have Buddie go canon. It's why they're handling this very carefully. Honestly I don't think they would have even had Buck come out if they weren't at least considering Buddie because they would have known that the fans yelling for Buddie would only get louder once one of them was confirmed queer. And like I said earlier if they had no intention of Buddie they would have at the least been distancing Buck and Eddie and certainly wouldn't have made Buck's entire coming out episode all about him.
They also would have told the actors to limit talking about Buddie in interviews and the journalists wouldn't have been allowed to ask about Buddie. If you look back at previous seasons and the kind of interviews Ryan and Oliver had Buddie was rarely if ever talked about. That's because Fox did not want it to happen and networks can control what is talked about in official interviews. There's a reason Buddie was talked about so much during the s7 interviews. It's the same reason B/T has barely been talked about even though it should have been a much bigger deal being Buck's first relationship with a guy.
Oh also there was the person on twitter who claimed to have inside info for the show and proved that at different times during s7 with how they seemed to know stuff long before the episodes would air. They said that people behind the scenes had been trying to have Eddie come out in s5 and again in s7 it just hasn't worked out yet. This also fits with what Oliver said that Buck was originally supposed to come out in s4. This fits too with the shooting storyline and the panic attacks early on in s5. Buck would have had his bi awakening in s4 and maybe his feelings realization after the shooting. This would lead to Eddie having his queer awakening during the whole Ana storyline in s5. But Fox shut all of that down.
My point in all of this is that there's a lot of evidence to back up why Buddie fans are so sure about Buddie canon this time. More so than any other season. It's not just us seeing the show through our buddie tinted glasses. It's the most logical outcome at this point. Sure we could all be wrong and the show could leave us heartbroken but at the same time it's still fun to be excited and hopeful about the show.
Oh and one more thing. I get it if you don't like Eddie's mustache, we all have things we find attractive or don't for whatever reason. But continually comparing Eddie, a Mexican man who many lgbtq people relate to and see as queer coded, to characters you describe as "violent and abusive" or a "corrupt cop" just feels all kinds of wrong to me.
Again like I already stated above Buddie canon and Eddie being queer might not happen but there is plenty of evidence to back up why people see Eddie as a queer character. In some ways he's been far more queer coded than even Buck has been. To get upset at people for seeing the mustache as another sign of queer coding makes zero sense to me. You can think it looks unattractive but mustaches have a long history of symbolism in queer men's culture. This isn't just about thinking it looks like Freddie Mercury it's that mustaches (especially ones that look like Eddie's this season) have often by used by queer men as a signifier of their sexuality to other queer men. So the idea that the show is using it as an early sign to the audience that that's where they're taking his character isn't totally out of the realm of possibility.
You are free to disregard all of the facts I just pointed out. You are free to see the show how you want. But you're not free to insult the people in your own fandom and then act surprised when people don't want to follow you or even go so far as to block you because they're tired of the negativity. I mean we get enough of that from B*mmy stans we don't need it in our own fandom too.
If the fandom and the show is causing you to be unhappy it might be time to consider taking a break.

Buddie Meta 7x03 + 7x04 (Part 1 of 4)
Mostly 7x04 but I'm gonna include a bit about 7x03. So fair warning for a lot of talk about Buck/Tommy, but as always this will always be a Buddie canon/endgame positive space. Ain't no one jumping ship here. Once again, I apologize for my shitty screenshots and also warning: my meta does include some speculation and all of my meta are long AF, so this might be one you want to read in bits or when you have time to read something long.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with 7x03. A lot of people speculated that the direction and blocking of this scene is likely foreshadowing, and I'm inclined to agree. First, we start with Buck and Eddie standing next to each other as they're known to do, and when Tommy joins them, he stands right in between them, foreshadowing that he'll be in the center of this speculated love triangle. Eddie is the first one to step away from the trio, leaving Buck alone with Tommy (foreshadowing how Buck and Tommy will have a romantic relationship).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck then has a solo moment with Tommy, which is already an interesting choice all on its own. It's a fact that Buck just met Tommy for the first time during this whole ordeal. It would make more sense for Chim or Hen, or hell even Bobby, to be the one to come talk to Tommy to say thanks. But the script called for Buck. This was done for a specific purpose, and now we know it's because they planned to put Buck and Tommy together romantically in the next episode.
Buck places his hand on Tommy's shoulders to say thanks. Up until this point, Buck and Eddie's primary way of sharing their feelings with each other has included shoulder touches. To me, this shows that Buck views these strong meaningful shoulder touches as a way to express strong feelings, something he's learned from Eddie (given that in all of the show, Eddie is always the one touching Buck's shoulder like this). This could also be interpreted as Buck unconsciously viewing Eddie's shoulder touches as romantic, so much so that Tommy picks up on it through Buck.
With that being said, with the context of 7x04, we also know that Tommy reads this shoulder touch as a sign that Buck might possibly be queer and/or possibly interested in him romantically. Interesting how this is the second time Buck's done something he views as "normal straight behavior" and queer men have interpreted it as him hitting on them (TK and now Tommy). And yet all of these things are actions Buck regularly does with Eddie and vice versa. So in-universe these actions have queer undertones according to the writers. Why wouldn't this then also apply to Buck and Eddie's relationship? At the moment, it's because Buck and Eddie themselves don't realize the extra meaning. But I predict they will eventually (maybe even sooner than we think).
Buck gives his unconscious "signs" by touching Tommy, and Tommy responds back by smiling flirtily and reaching back to touch Buck, almost to try and catch his hand, symbolizing Tommy responding to Buck's queer signs, and foreshadowing how he will be the one to take things a step further in the next episode.
Lastly, Buck walks away from Tommy towards where Eddie went earlier. This symbolizes how the Buck/Tommy relationship might have some missed connections (ie their hands never touching) and likely some miscommunication. And at the end of the day, Buck's attention will always be on Eddie. His path will always be to follow wherever Eddie goes. This is even more evident by the next episode which might be my new fave episode of 911.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving onto 7x04. The bachelor crossover call marks our first big season 2 callback. A bunch of beautiful women hit on Buck and Eddie at the same time. The last time this happened was in 2x04 Stuck when the 118 responded to the drunk girl with her head in the tailpipe. Women hit on them and Eddie says "I don't think I'm what you're looking for. I have a son" and Buck says "Thanks but no thanks I have a (invisible) gf". These are two very obvious and unnecessary excuses not to get with beautiful women that both the writers and the characters call out. And as we all know, this leads to the iconic "they weren't my type" "not mine either, not anymore" scene, and the rest of that episode is the catalyst for Buck and Eddie becoming as close as they are. The whole "they weren't my type" convo was a pretty obvious queer-coded scene. And this call-back in 7x04 isn't any different.
Tumblr media
Eddie now has the (convenient) excuse that he's "taken at the moment" (note: he doesn't say "I have a girlfriend", another point for gender-neutral terminology in this episode). It's literally the exact same excuse as last time except this time Eddie has Marisol but she isn't even important enough to have a 2 second scene in this episode where he's all over another man, so. Make of that what you will. Additionally, Eddie adds a time limit to his relationship with Marisol by saying "at the moment", which means that subconsciously Eddie is aware that his relationship with Marisol will be temporary (however long that might be). He could've just said "Sorry, I'm taken, but he's not" if he really viewed his relationship properly as a long-term, possible forever relationship, but the "at the moment" is a purposeful line to let everyone know that Marisol is just a passing ship in the night. So for those who are still unsure about Eddie/Marisol rest assured everyone on every level knows it's gonna end eventually. Maybe even sooner than we think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a proper hetero wingman should, Eddie directs attention to Buck, who's surprised and actually makes up an excuse not to get with any of them because he "has a rule he doesn't date people (GENDER NEUTRAL) he meets on calls". This is a direct callback to Eddie during the cemetery scene in 6x15 when he says dating people on calls never works out, which ended up being a fulfilled prophecy given that Buck/Natalia break up in the interim between 6x18 and 7x01. This also comes up yet again later in the episode which I'll talk about later.
Tumblr media
This provokes a weird reaction from Eddie, who doesn't understand why (single) Buck would turn down a bunch of willing single women. Additionally, I want to provide some context that the lovely @911bts mentioned which is that it seems like the network asked 911 to swap the bachelor call from 7x05 to 7x04. ((This is why we were getting info/stills about Hen/Henren but not really much of them in the ep. Their stuff was swapped with the Athena/Harry stuff). So there's additional context to this scene in that it was originally supposed to be Buck HIDING something (Tommy and their date) from Eddie and Eddie picking up on the weirdness of it. This then begs the question of why Buck would've wanted to hide this info from Eddie in the first place.
BUT it's now final that this scene is in 7x04, which loses some of the juicier context, but it's still showing that Eddie finds Buck's actions weird in that Buck appears to be losing interest in dating women at the moment, which is foreshadowing his lightbulb bisexual moment at the end of the episode.
Tumblr media
This is tiny, but I find it interesting how Tommy follows very closely behind Buck's space, leaning his chin into Buck's shoulder as they walk, KNOCKING HIS ARM INTO BUCK'S FROM BEHIND (I don't need to explain that this is a Buddie thing), keeping near constant eye contact, and very obviously looking up and down Buck's body several times. Idk, I just appreciate the subtle queer hints even before the queerness is unmistakable at the end.
Tommy pointedly says "You didn't call me just to see the toys". From Tommy's perspective, he's unsure if Buck is queer/into him yet, but Buck reaching out to hang out might be the first indicator that he is. Or the hetero explanation is that Buck might be thinking of learning how to be a pilot. I really don't think we have anything to worry about with either Buck (or Eddie) leaving the 118 to be in air support, but it's an interesting metaphor. Safe and familiar vs. brand new and exciting and maybe a lil scary. The entire conversation is a thinly veiled metaphor for sexual fluidity which is later then proved by the ending. Also I want to point out that most of this convo pre-Eddie appearance has Buck appearing to have more of an awe/hero worship for Tommy, with the attraction being underlying, but that "so cool!" feeling still being the primary emotion we're supposed to pick up on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think these first real interactions between Buck and Tommy are a good indicator of where the rest of their relationship is gonna head. Buck asks a personal question about Tommy, and every bit of information he learns "I used to be a pilot in the army", Buck then relates immediately back to Eddie: "No way, Eddie used to be in the army!" Even when he's here, one-on-one with Tommy, with no Eddie present, before all of the jealousy starts, Eddie is always on Buck's mind. Tommy, at this moment, is still an afterthought. We'll see how long it takes Tommy to realize there's a reason Buck never stops yapping about Eddie (or maybe he's already picked up on it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck then brings up his gender-neutral ex immediately (gender-neutral tally: 3), which leads me to believe that Tommy assumes Buck's train of thought brought him from Eddie to "an ex he rescued from a helicopter", which immediately links Eddie to potential Buck ex's, or men in general to Buck's exes. Tommy's eyes very pointedly flicker up to Buck's when he brings up an ex, which tells me that Tommy was very interested in knowing Buck's sexuality and relationship status from the very beginning.
Tommy then mimics the words from Eddie in the graveyard about not dating people they meet on calls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Gender-neutral tally: 5)
((Running tab on Tommy's similarities to Eddie: badass, competent, helicopters, army, and Eddie-coined phrases))
The rest of this conversation is a lot of flirting "ie. I can give you lessons" being a thinly veiled allusion to Tommy teaching Buck the ways of men loving men. And Buck is the one to offer Tommy a beer, which probably doesn't dispute the idea of Buck being queer in Tommy's head but...
Tommy's got a date with everyone's main man, Eddie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turns out Tommy and Eddie already made a friendly (offscreen) connection, enough for Tommy to invite Eddie out to an expensive and impressive date wrestling match.
I really want to talk about what this says about how Tommy (a queer man) views Eddie, but unfortunately, most of it would be speculation at this point.
First I want to talk about how one of the first things Tommy says in Buck's presence once Eddie shows up is calling Eddie "his man". This firmly places Eddie in Tommy's possessive. To be jealous is to desire something someone else has, or to be sensitive of someone else taking something that you view as yours. Which means two things: 1.) Buck wants what (he perceives) Tommy has: Eddie, and 2.) Buck believes on some level that Eddie is his and Tommy is trying to take away something that belongs to him. (Let's take away the fact that obviously Eddie is his own person and no one can actually possess him) in both scenarios the object of Buck's desire is Eddie. Not Tommy.
"My man" is also a vague term that can be used in both a friendly AND romantic sense. Which is the general theme we see with Tommy and Eddie's relationship, the vagueness of whether their budding new relationship is friendly or borderline romantic. Which is funny because this limbo between platonic and romantic is the same limbo Buck and Eddie have been existing in for six years. I think this is what Buck subconsciously picks up on, and it's the very fact that this COULD be romantic that triggers Buck.
As soon as Eddie shows up, Buck's entire demeanor shifts from excited, awed, and curious about Tommy, to confused, bothered, and even a bit uncomfortable. Keep in mind at this point, Buck doesn't know why Eddie is here, and yet he's upset at the prospect, even though he was just gushing about Eddie being super cool in the army.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tommy's attention is now fully on Eddie. But Eddie is actually just as excited about Buck coming with them to the fight as he is by the idea of them going at all (his tone does not change). And yet this doesn't assuage Buck.
Second, Tommy says "I wish" almost as if he wished that he knew Buck had an interest in him before, so that either Buck could've joined them OR Buck could've taken Eddie's place. That doesn't inherently mean Tommy asked Eddie to go on a date (queer men can be platonic friends too!) but it's the fact that the line is unclear to BUCK that matters.
Tumblr media
He also calls Buck "Evan" very casually, which is interesting to me. There are several plausible reasons why Tommy might call Buck "Evan", but I want to think of it from Eddie's perspective. "Evan" is a valued, special occasion, intimate moniker between Eddie and Buck, and Tommy's just using it willy-nilly. Eddie doesn't outwardly react to it, but he does show his own first piece of possessiveness over Buck in the next line.
Tumblr media
God, I love Eddie's cunty lil raised eyebrows. Eddie jumps to the conclusion that Buck might be thinking of leaving the 118 and he immediately shuts that down, staking his own possessive claim on Buck in a plausibly deniable way (that Eddie is known to do, see: "do you know how much Christopher misses you?", "Christopher needs you", and "you're stuck with us (the 118)" all of which is Eddie saying he needs/wants/misses Buck without outwardly saying it, etc.) that is within their unspoken boundaries at the moment.
Tumblr media
Buck then talks about his "options" and since we already know that Buck doesn't really want to leave the 118, the true subtext of this line is romantic options. Fluid is also not a word generally used with this phrase. It's typically "options open". The word "fluid" is more used when referring to the gender/sexuality spectrum, which is once again foreshadowing Buck's lightbulb bi moment in the end. "Options" also implies Buck has more than one romantic prospect, and since we know Buck's not really thinking about women right now, that points to men. If Tommy is a romantic prospect in this episode, that also implies that Eddie is a romantic prospect, or at least could be at some point in the future.
Tumblr media
Buck appears to be stuck on how easily Eddie gets along with Tommy, apparently right from the beginning. Easily touching him, Eddie smiling super wide, excited as hell for something that Buck obviously doesn't know about. I can imagine that would grate on Buck's nerves because he and Eddie are supposed to be best friends who tell each other everything right? So why did Eddie hide the beginnings of this new friendship from Buck? Unfortunately, we don't know the timeline of when Tommy got these tickets to when he asked Eddie to go with him, but either way, Eddie didn't find it necessary to tell Buck. But WHY?
I would like to point out the last time Eddie seemingly "accidentally" forgot to mention something that should otherwise be easy for "just friends" to talk about: the will. Obviously, the will has larger implications than just going to a wrestling match, but it shows a pattern of "friend" things that Eddie doesn't tell Buck about. A lot of us have discussed how a large part of what puts the will scene in a romantic light instead of just something written off as purely platonic is the fact that Eddie did not tell Buck about it for a YEAR. Good friends would and SHOULD be able to talk to each other about something that life-changing, and yet Eddie can't bring himself to, risking the potential of accidentally dying at any point and leaving Buck and Chris blind-sided. Eddie must've had a reason to hide the will from Buck for so long. We know it's not because Eddie was afraid Buck would say no. He knew he wouldn't. So then, why? Most of us believe it's because Eddie's choice to put Buck in the will actually had a deeper emotional implication on Eddie's end that maybe he can't properly communicate to Buck, or even to himself. What could that implication be? In my opinion, Eddie was able to make this decision so easily because he's (unknowingly) in love with Buck, and he doesn't tell Buck because he's (subconsciously) aware that doing so reveals more about how Eddie feels for Buck than he's comfortable saying at the moment.
That long-winded tangent aside, I wanted to draw attention to it because this is another instance where Eddie seemingly has no reason not to mention to Buck that he's made a new friend in Tommy and that they've been hanging out a bunch and having fun. If anything, given how excited Eddie appears to be about Tommy and the wrestling match, you'd think Eddie would've been so excited that he would tell Buck right away. Instead, it gets to the day of and Eddie still hasn't thought to tell Buck, enough so that they're both equally shocked by their presence at Tommy's helicopter hanger. Not only that, but it implies that Eddie WOULD NOT have told Buck about it until the event passed (if he told him at all). But why? Why on earth would Eddie seemingly let this slip his mind so much as to not tell Buck at all. It can't just be oh I simply forgot or I'm having too much fun with Tommy. At this point in time, we still don't have any textual reason why, but I'm going to hypothesize that Eddie is aware (on some level but mostly subconsciously) that what he and Tommy are doing is basically going out on dates. And something in Eddie told him that he shouldn't tell Buck. Why? Perhaps because it implies something queer about Eddie that he's not ready to share with Buck yet? Time shall tell.
Additionally, it's interesting to note Eddie starts this episode hiding his friendship with Tommy from Buck, and it seems like the next episode is gonna start with Buck hiding his relationship with Tommy from Eddie. Much to think about.
Tumblr media
Eddie also doesn't feel the need to tell Buck about the trip until after it happens and Buck has to be the one to ask. First of all, I want to say that Eddie should be given some grace here. Man doesn't have that many friends, and the last time a manfriend gave him this much attention Eddie gave him his son and built a forever home together so he just needs an adjustment period. Eddie is an intense bitch and tends to go all in with people (that he actually cares about *cough* not female romantic prospects *cough*), so I'm not surprised he's a little preoccupied with Tommy. Additionally, Eddie is a human. Sometimes humans don't pick up on the signs that others are in distress. It's not "ooc" that Eddie doesn't realize Buck is upset. It's a natural human mistake.
Now that that's out of the way this scene is hilarious because it's yet another parallel but this time, it parallels our very own Eddieana scene in 4x06 Jinx (written by the lovely Taylor Wong who also made a cameo in the bachelor scene as "tennis girl").
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is actually the second conversation walking to a scene that Buck and Eddie had about Ana, but both times Buck appears very interested in Eddie's dating life. In this same episode he also randomly asks what Ana's "love language" is despite knowing the man has had less than five whole conversations with her. What's important to note here is Buck's pattern of being overly interested in Eddie's romantic prospects. This is no different for Tommy (who Buck unconsciously realizes IS a romantic prospect for Eddie).
Okay looks like I've reached tumblr's limit on how many pics I can post so I'm going to be forced to make this into parts but I will make them all at the same time and post at the same time.
Find part 2, part 3 and part 4.

Sorry I’m a person who will never let 7x04 go but, even to the general audience that doesn’t work well if it wasn’t about Eddie. If it was truly meant to be a bait and switch like plot twist like “surprise it was all about Tommy!” It wasn’t done well. A good plot twist makes you stop and go “woah didn’t expect that but in hindsight yeah it all makes sense!” But when you look back on that episode in hindsight it makes LESS sense.
Like looking at my mom who is a general audience member and generally does not get invested in ships (she just wants the characters happy doesn’t really care much beyond that). She was caught completely off guard by it being about Tommy and still was like “but he was trying to get Eddie’s attention clearly” and after watching the rest of the season she also picked up on Tommy’s dismissive nature and has said she doesn’t like him (at this point she knew none of the shipping war drama which I have of course since filled her in on). This is coming from my mom who is the pure opposite of us on tumblr overanalyzing everything, she watches a show and then immediately forgets all details of what she watched and just moves on with her day. She’s not reading too much into things or remembering details and she can pick up on it being about Eddie, and Tommy being unlikable.
The thing with 704 is that they wanted to effectively make Buck bi for the 100th episode and the only way to convince the general audience of that was to have Buck kiss another man but it couldn't be Eddie. Everything about the episode plants the seed that of "is Buck into Eddie?" because even if we believe that was strictly about getting Tommy's attention because of a crush, the way Buck was acting is exactly the way Buck acts about Eddie during 201. That's not an accident. They pulled a bunch of romcom style things with the way the episode was shot, including the way that it leads the audience to expect Eddie to be the one at the door. I've said this a thousand times and I will continue to say it, if the show really wanted to make a gotcha moment and say it was all about Tommy, even without the extremely not subtle way the rest of the episode is about not recognizing things, then the Eddie aspect of the date wouldn't be the thing Buck was worried about during 705 because Buck was legit abandoned on a sidewalk and he spent the whole episode freaking out about lying to Eddie, it would've been about getting Tommy back, they wouldn't just make Buck spiral about Eddie for 80% of the episode and then have Buck go after Tommy after Eddie tells him to. And as the season continues, there is still a LOT of Buck and Eddie and once they used Tommy to make Buck come out, the rest of Tommy scenes serve to remind the audience that Tommy was one of the firefighters under Gerrard and to remind everyone that Gerrard is bad. 704 only makes sense if eventually Buck is going to be like "oh shit maybe it was about Eddie". Because if not you only have Buck being a total asshole, lending Eddie in the hospital in maybe on purpose for a random guy they keep making look worse and that's just ??? Yk?

Like I’m not blaming anyone for thinking Bucks jealousy was about Eddie at first because it was a purposeful misdirect, Eddie was the “plot device” or red herring here. But for the Love of god I don’t understand how you could think this jealousy about Eddie could have been romantic. First off, Buck knew Eddie was straight, so why would he care if he spends time with another guy? Eddie had a girlfriend at the time and Buck couldn’t have cared less. He had girlfriends in the past and he couldn’t have cared less. But as soon as he hangs out with Tommy and occupies all his time, he gets jealous. Even already at harbor when he was talking with Tommy and Eddie showed up, he looks disappointed and unhappy. He wanted to spend time with Tommy and tried everything to get invited by Eddie to their hangouts. If all this was about Eddie, he would have just asked him to hang out with him, they do things together all the time. But it was never about Eddie but Tommy and after Tommy left Buck for his Vegas trip with Eddie, he thought he would rather spend time with Eddie because Buck thinks he is cooler than him, they share same hobbys and interests. And why would he even have looked at Tommy like he did or wanting to be around him, if he thought he was a threat? It just doesn’t make sense, especially if you’re rewatching the episode and already know what happened at the end.
I think maybe you might’ve misinterpreted something I said? Probably on my comments about the psychology of the scene? I never read the scene (or episode) as Evan jealous of Tommy’s time with Eddie. My commentary was on the fact that there are people who clearly do.
But I agree with you. I don’t know how others come to that conclusion. Yes, we’re fed some misdirects on purpose earlier in the episode, but like I stated, that ending scene is crystal clear. Buck doesn’t have any interest in pursuing Eddie. He is 100% telling Tommy it’s him he’s interested in and flirting with. This is most obvious IMO in Evan’s monologue about wanting to get to know Tommy, thinking he’s cool, etc. Moreover, I think the most pressing concern on the narrative of “he just wants Eddie and he’s confused” is when he literally spells out “I maimed my best friend to get your attention”. BEST FRIEND. YOUR. ATTENTION. He has clearly defined where he is classifying these people in his view. And that’s all without me launching into a breakdown on the whole bit about “getting your attention has been exhausting”. Like if there was any actual interest in getting Eddie’s attention for this narrative, we would’ve been given at least a scene to spell that out. But we weren’t because it was always about Tommy.

I think some people need to be real here, about interviews.
Tim Minear saying in an interview about Buck getting Tommy’s attention makes sense. He’s talking about right now. He wasn’t going to put Buck and Tommy together and have this big deal of a kiss and hype it all up just to go ‘well…actually it was Eddie” later down the line he could very much twist it round. He isn’t going to spoil future plots. Ryan Guzman said at the beginning of the season that Eddie was going to be happier this season and was being somewhat positive about his relationship with Marisol, we now know that was a lie for obvious reasons. Oliver said in an interview during the break that he had no idea what they were doing with Eddie’s story which was a lie because they would have been in the middle of filming these episodes and considering Oliver/Buck is in the Vertigo poster and gonna be involved he’d already know about it.
It’s like Ryan saying that Eddie is straight in an interview, he’s gonna say that because he was talking about right now and in the moment Buck came out it him. When Buck came out to him Eddie was canonically straight and it also would mess up the vibe of his current story by saying he was anything else, they can still change it later.
They are media trained and sometimes bluff in interviews so they don’t give anything away. It would also actually be very shitty of Tim Minear to actually use Eddie as a misdirect for Buck getting another mans attention, it’s a slap in the face to buddies. He could have written it any other way for Buck to get with Tommy without getting Eddie involved and there is very clearly a reason he did have Eddie involved especially since he spent more time talking about Eddie that whole episode.
hi anon! Yeah, i read the interview in question and i found it kind of ambiguous in its wording. Also, Tim wouldn't outright just say it was Eddie because it would be kind of crazy to admit that just after having Buck kiss another man.
What Tim says in the interview is this:
"I was excited to play a story about Buck being jealous of his best friend being stolen by a guy who's kind of like a cooler version of Buck, at least in Buck's head. So that's the story that you think you're watching. That's the story that Buck thinks he's in. That is not the story."
Which in both cases (Buck is vying for Eddie's attention because he is love with him, or in the case that it really is T's attention he's trying to get) it's true. In both cases it's not the story of a man jealous because he feels like his best friend is being stolen.
He also says:
" I never say he's trying to get Eddie's attention. He's trying to get somebody's attention. And I think it's in that moment in the loft when he says, "Trying to get your attention has been a little exhausting" — it's in that moment where Buck realizes, "Yeah, I guess so. I guess this has been about you the whole time."
Would like to point out that he doesn't need to say that it's Eddie because the show, you know, blatantly shows you. And, again, he is not going to just come out and say in an interview just after that episode that it's Eddie when in the end of said episode Buck says the contrary.
Also, notice how Tim doesn't say it's T's attention either? He says somebody. He doesn't tell you it's T's attention that Buck wants, he deliberately uses Bucks own words of "Yeah, i guess so. I guess this has been about you the whole time" Which still emphasizes the fact that he is not sure, and Buck may have realized wrong. Tim could have outright come out and said it's T, and he pointedly doesn't.
And let's assume it's really T's attention. Problem 1: you are right, it would be extremely mean for Tim to frame this entire episode the way it's framed, knowing that there's a large fanbase that ships buddie. He would have been laughing in our faces. Problem 2: Why does the gym scene exist? Why is Buck peacocking to get Eddie's attention? There also are some scenes that i can't explain if we follow that perspective. Also would like to point out that you don't need to have Buck yapping nonstop about Eddie throughout the entire conversation with T, even after the kiss. What is up with that?
Let's point out the fact that they've kept framing Buck and Eddie like a couple in the following episodes, which certainly is a choice. They did not need to put Buck and Eddie in a couple's costume for the bachelor party, but they did. They did not need to have Eddie drop Chris at Buck's home to go cheat on his girlfriend with his ex-wife's doppelganger, yet they did and framed it as if it was Buck who Eddie was cheating on, like Eddie lying to Buck was more important than Eddie lying to Marisol.
The show is making choices, and it seems like it's going somewhere that might be Buddie related. If they are not going the Buddie route, they should stop framing them as a couple an focus more on each other's current relationships with their SOs.
Finally, you always have to take interviews with a grain of salt, especially the ones made just after an episode has aired. Until the season is over, or even the show is over, you never know if they are telling you the truth or it it's a lie to throw you off the scent. It's fun to speculate about what they are saying, but don't take their words as confirmation for anything because thing could change.

thank you for your posts which has helped me get a handle on my own feelings about the ep and that one of my big issues was feeling like buck not immediately apologizing on the court or at any point afterwards was so out of character for him.
like i think i'm not even as bothered by the shove itself as some people. maybe it's because i'm into sports generally but i get a heat of the moment emotional shove during a basketball game, like i'm not excusing it but i get it.
but the buck who post-lawsuit was chasing after eddie's forgiveness and attention would not go radio silent and not even reach out to his best friend after doing something like that. i just don't buy it.
i’m glad that my ranting has resonated with you! and yeah, totally valid re: the body checking, i think part of that for me was also that it was just like. viscerally weird and upsetting to watch buck decide to chase EDDIE (eddie!!!!!!!) down and then… do that. to EDDIE. but obviously different interpretations and all!
his response in the aftermath was what was just completely unacceptable to me, especially if we’re supposed to believe that everything he did in this episode was actually about tommy—because as much as everyone is enjoying their buddie speculation, this reading (and it IS there once the buddie goggles come off, that’s the way they WANT you to read it) suggests that buck actually doesn’t really give a shit about eddie at all, at least not when someone shiny and new shows up. and that’s… not buck. that’s so out of character for buck. it’s DISRESPECTFUL to buck’s character, even.
because, like. buck says multiple times that he feels bad, and people seem to buy it generally and think that his conversation with maddie was proof. except for the fact that when buck feels bad, he doesn’t avoid things. he runs headfirst into them trying to make it better. you’re seriously telling me that if buck had actually caused eddie injury—and let’s not forget that it could have been bad enough to bench eddie from work, they just got lucky—he wouldn’t be over at eddie’s house day and night, trying to make things easier for him? sure, maybe he was in shock at the court (i don’t buy it for a second lol) but what about in all the time afterwards? buck, in general, has never cared about whether people want him there, but now it really matters that eddie might be upset with him, and he doesn’t take a second to think why eddie would be when he’s never upset with buck for things that aren’t his fault? and this thirty-two year old man needs not one but two people to teach him lessons that actual children should already know?
the conversation with tommy makes everything 100x worse to me because, aside from the whole thing about exclusion being secondhand embarrassing, the fact is that buck still hasn’t said a word to eddie but is able to make jokes about it. for some reason, he needs tommy—a guy he might like but has known for a week—to TELL HIM to call his best friend. it continues to be absurd to me that they chose to have these two flirting over buck hurting eddie. and on tommy’s part, any rational grown person should have been like, “it’s kinda weird that you did that to my friend i really like who’s also sooooo important to you that we’re gonna talk about how great he is for 2 minutes.” not “oh that’s so charming and i want you.” sorry 🤷🏾‍♀️
when we only had the script leak, i assumed that buck did apologize in the moment for whatever he did and then withdrew, or that there would be a scene after he spoke to maddie where he apologized. but now it’s obvious that they couldn’t have shown buck’s normal response to doing this to eddie because it was all in service of him having his moment with tommy. so because they used eddie and buck’s friendship with eddie as a plot device, they ended up assassinating buck’s character and regressed his development to a truly ridiculous level.
i maintain, and have maintained since before the episode came out, that this was the worst possible way to go about this arc. and it’s weird to me that we’re just glossing over it to be like, well they were talking about eddie! they were talking about christopher! tommy is like eddie! well, yeah, sure, but buck treated eddie like dog shit, and i’m pretty sure he’s not gonna grovel about it. so. like i keep saying, i’m very glad that bi buck is canon and i think it’s important, but i can also think that they fucked up the execution and that i hated it and wanted better for a character i really do love.

9 for the bed sharing scenarios? 👉🏻👈🏻
boyfriend duties || read on ao3
“So, how exactly does one break their dresser anyway?” Buck asked as he pulled into the parking lot of IKEA. Eddie let out a long suffering sigh as he tumbled out of Buck’s jeep.
“Listen, I don’t know what happened. One minute I’m grabbing a t-shirt to wear to bed and the next there was a weird sound and then the whole thing just…collapsed,” Eddie explained, looking dumbfounded. “I didn’t even know it was broken.”
Buck shook his head as he chuckled. “Oh well, we’ll get you a new one and it’ll be like it never happened.”
Eddie sighed again but he couldn’t help but smile when Buck look at him like that, a hopeful look like he wanted Eddie to say yes, your plan will fix everything. And it would. Eddie knew he was pouting for no reason. Dressers broke all the time and if he was honest, he’d never much liked the dresser he had had. Sometimes change was good.
They entered the wonderfully bright and endlessly confusing IKEA and headed to the start of the maze.
“They should have more shortcuts. You mean to tell me I have to walk through this entire store to get to the dressers?” Eddie grumbled, looking at the signs above them.
“It’s not so bad, we can look at all the cool things they have,” Buck said, bouncing on his heels as he looked around like a kid in a candy store. “Oh, that reminds me, Chris was complaining that his reading lamp wasn’t working anymore. I thought it might have just been a burnt out lightbulb but it didn’t work when I changed it. We should take a look at the lamps while we’re here.”
“Sounds good,” Eddie said, feeling warm at how thoughtful Buck was. He hadn’t even known that Christopher’s lamp was broken but now that he thought about it, he could remember there being a lightbulb box in the recycling.
They took their time walking through the maze, Eddie indulgently letting Buck look at anything and everything that caught his eye. They had time, Christopher was spending the weekend with Tía Pepa so even if they didn’t get everything done today they still had tomorrow.
Finally though they found the dresser Eddie wanted, got all the information and headed towards the warehouse section. They stopped briefly in lighting and Buck was quite happy with the reading lamp he found as a replacement for Christopher’s broken one.
Once they had everything, they walked back to the parking lot. They struggled a bit to get everything into Buck’s jeep but finally they were able to maneuver the dresser into the back.
“We really should have taken the truck,” Eddie mumbled, looking at the awkward way the dresser was jammed into the jeep.
“It just has to hold until we get home,” Buck said absently, making sure everything was tucked in as much as possible before shutting the door.
Eddie didn’t miss the easy way Buck referred to the Diaz house as home and it made something in his heart swell. Because it was. It was home for the both of them and Christopher.
“You’re quiet,” Buck observed. It was about fifteen minutes into their drive back that he finally spoke up because Eddie hadn’t said a word since they left the parking lot.
“Yeah, shit, sorry. I was just thinking,” Eddie replied, feeling his cheeks heat. Buck was going out of his way to help him today and here he was, getting lost in his thoughts and ignoring him. He shook off the weird mood that had settled over him like a cloud and gave Buck his full attention.
They chatted the rest of the way home and time just seemed to fly by as they set about getting the new dresser into the house and into Eddie’s bedroom.
The next few hours passed in a series of “Buck, it goes here, look at the picture—“ and “I am looking at the picture, Eddie, and it goes over here!”
Finally they had frame of the dresser built and all that was left were the drawers. Since it was nearing dinner time they decided to take a break and finish the rest afterwards. Dinner passed quickly along with a couple episodes of the new show on Netflix they had been watching together.
“C’mon, we should get back to it,” Buck said, clapping Eddie on the knee as he stood up from the couch and stretched, groaning as his joints popped.
Eddie sighed but followed Buck to his bedroom, taking in the mess of furniture pieces and the packaging the dresser had come in. Feeling overwhelmed by the mess, Eddie sat on the edge of the bed and flopped back so he was laying down.
“It’s not too bad, Eds,” Buck said, echoing his earlier words. “We just need to get the drawers finished and the knobs put in. We can move your clothes and things in tomorrow.”
“I should have just used the closet, why did I get another dresser? I don’t even like dressers, I hate folding clothes. God invented hangers for a reason.”
Buck laughed. “Let’s go, c’mon. Just a little bit longer.”
“I’m exhausted, babe. Let’s just do it tomorrow.” Eddie groaned, throwing an arm over his eyes. When he was met with silence he groaned again and sat up, expecting to see Buck waiting for him to get up and help. But Buck was staring at him in shock. “What? What’s wrong?”
Buck was still kneeling on the ground, holding the instructions in his hand. “You, uh, you called me babe.”
“Oh,” Eddie blushed. “Sorry, I wasn’t thinking—”
Buck cut him off with a kiss. Eddie froze the second Buck’s lips touched his and he stayed frozen, long enough that Buck seemed to wilt against him, pulling away.
“Fuck,” Buck gasped, looking stricken. “I’m sorry— I shouldn’t have done that. I thought— I thought you calling me babe meant— although actually now that I think about it, it really doesn’t mean anything. I mean, for all I know you call all your friends pet names. I’ve literally never heard you use a pet name before but who knows—”
This time it was Eddie who cut Buck off with a kiss. Buck groaned, shuffling closer to where Eddie was sat on the edge of the bed so they could kiss without straining their necks so much. Eddie tugged Buck up off the floor and onto the bed. They broke apart, breathing heavily as Buck sprawled out on the bed underneath Eddie.
Eddie wasn’t sure how long they stayed like that, making out like teenagers but eventually the kisses got softer, less hungry and more languid. Eddie pulled back, taking in the flush on Buck’s cheeks and his swollen, spit-slick lips. He took a minute to marvel at the pretty picture Buck made, all kiss drunk.
And then Buck took the opportunity to completely ruin the moment. “We still have to build that fucking dresser.”
Eddie got off him with a groan, slapping Buck’s chest playfully when the other man does nothing but laugh. “Shut up, Buckley.”
“Or what, Diaz?”
“Or you’ll finish building that dresser all by yourself,” Eddie replied, looking smug.
“Isn’t it your dresser? Why should I build it myself?” Buck teased, even though they both knew that if Eddie asked, Buck would built it in a heartbeat without Eddie having to lift a finger.
“Boyfriend duties.”
“Oh?” And Buck looked so happy, smiling as bright as the sun, that Eddie couldn’t help but lean in to kiss the smile from his lips. Eddie found that he liked the taste of joy on Buck. When he pulled back, Buck said, “So, I’m your boyfriend?”
“I was hoping you would be,” Eddie replied softly.
“I thought you’d never ask,” Buck said, trying to joke but sincerity shined through. He really hadn’t thought Eddie would ever ask— that they would ever get to this point.
“Well, I’m asking now.”
“Yeah, Eds. I want to be your boyfriend.”
“Oh good, ‘cause I have your first official boyfriend task right here,” Eddie joked, nodding his head towards the half built dresser.
Buck laughed but went to move off of the bed. He was stopped by a hand on his wrist and then Eddie was tugging him back into bed.
“I changed my mind, the dresser can wait.”
“Good call, Diaz. Good call.”

[Text version] Anonymous asked: This fandom and its “if you don’t like it don’t watch it propaganda” like they don’t consider that someone like me still bitch about this show cause I used to love it so much and it hurts me to see it ruined in this way and I still have hope that it can be saved. And its “ you don’t like this character/ writer cause she’s a female”, it’s not like that for example I adore Andrew, but I still have nightmares about whatever it was 6x08 "Don't like, don't watch" is good advice when you're addressing "fans" who can find NOTHING to be happy about, but tbh...it goes back to what myself and a few others have said re: fandom treating the show like a fanfic. "Don't like, don't read?" Perfectly reasonable. Fanfics cater to specific characters/pairings/tropes and we are able to filter search results to leave out things we aren't interested in. When it comes to watching tv, however...especially with a show like 9-1-1 or other crime/procedural dramas...there is bound to be at least ONE thing viewers latch onto and will make time (while switching channels during the original broadcast or fast-forwarding through the replay on a streaming service).
I find the bitchiness a little...two-faced, for lack of a better term, at least within the Buddie fandom. How are you (gen) gonna tell people everything is headed in a clear direction (and it's not just framed as speculation; when others question the thought process they're told they're just too stupid to understand the narrative - an actual thing that has been said, lol), but then get angry when those same folks (who you wanted to seem smarter than) point out inconsistencies or that things feel far from optimistic?
Is it because you don't want to be reminded of how wrong you were mere months ago? Or you don't want to think about the faith you may have (incorrectly) placed in this show to not be like the ones before it?
The "you don't like this character because she's female" argument is silly when the issue isn't that the woman in question is terrible, but that the show "cleaned her up" so she could portray a love interest (as if the audience was just supposed to forget what they'd seen and heard):
Shannon -> Eddie stuck up for her because he felt like it was his fault that she left (which she made him believe, but then when Eddie *is* present in Christopher's life and co-parenting with her...she's like "Still haven't figured out how to do this whole motherhood thing, sorry!" Having Eddie back helped, but he wasn't the problem. Shannon never made peace with being a mother relatively young (losing her freedom), nor did she make peace with the "added stress" that comes with raising a child that is physically disabled.
Ana -> Apparently never said an ableist thing in her life despite how her introductory episode made it VERY clear that her approach to the skateboarding incident was the wrong one. (And because I always think it's worth noting - Andrew Meyers spelled out that the episode would touch on a disability issue when he specifically put the term ABLE-BODIED in the opening scene: "Attention, citizens of the Internet. We are calling upon every able-bodied viewer for another adrenalized tour of duty for Shay's Army.")
Taylor -> Nobody acknowledges how she wanted to mess with Bobby for the sake of her career in season two. Buck is all-too-pleased to see her again. Zero hesitation. (He's the one person who knew the only reason that footage never made the air is because of her bosses.) Then there was her calling Buck out for not being a good friend...despite never having been a friend to him, either...and the tears for her tv audience...and telling other people's stories because she doesn't want to tell her own...meaning she's allowed to keep her private life private, but anyone else is fair game...one big "ick" all around.
Lucy doesn't apply to the above (unless you count editing her scenes to see how the audience would accept her in the aftermath of 5x11/5x13, I guess), but people are forgetting that many were actually ROOTING for her to be the new Lena (Buck's Version). Yes! Give Buck a female coworker who isn't a lesbian or much older than him and LET THEM BE FRIENDS! Especially when he already had a girlfriend!
If people want to make excuses for the cheating arc (that amounted to nothing in the end - so much for "narrative purpose") or want to swoon over pretty people making out, have at it. But the other side is entitled to reject a version of canon they never asked for. Fans complaining on their OWN BLOGS is not in the same stratosphere as anybody who had no shame in leaving negative insta comments directed at the actress involved.
Finally, as for not liking a writer 'cause she's a woman...Who hates Lyndsey? Or Taylor Wong? And I'm pretty sure we all thought highly of Kristen until Tim opened his mouth about 4x14 and we (then) saw what the show was turning into under her control. Ignorance truly was bliss.

“Come on Eddie let me show you this.” Lilly said in a sing-songy voice. It had already been a month since they had their dinner date thing at Steves. For the whole rest of the month it was spent getting me some new clothes, and get more comfortable with the idea that I wasn’t going anywhere besides Lilly’s trailer. I was getting up from the small dinner table that Lily was using as a catch all for everything. “What’s up?” Our conversation only now starting to become smoother, glide easier from topic to topic. “You said you like metal right?”
I cocked my head a little bit. I don’t really remember a lot of the things I say nowadays, words just sorta fly out of my mouth. Most of the time my mouth is left open from viewing a world that is far more advanced then I was ever used to. I always sorta dreamed of a futuristic world, but never what Lilly had shown me so far. “Yeah I think I did.” I answer still wondering why she’s taking this conversation. She’s sitting on the couch, her legs crossed over each other. She’s looking down at her phone screen.
It had been something I wasn’t able to not comment on. She had shown me a few things, like how messages were instant now, and emojis which was a fucking funny word. “Come sit, I know I’ve shown you a few things. I think you might just like this the most though.” Lilly was so sweet in everything she did motioning me to come sit next to her I did. My knees touching hers. “This app right here.” She said pointing down to her screen, “This is for if you weren’t able to cause music.” Lilly must be joking right.
“What do you mean? Well…I had noticed that you didn’t have a radio or anything like that I mean besides in your car but that seems normal enough you don’t have a cassette player though.” She stared at me as I rambled on until my lips stopped moving and the words stopped forming in my head. “I know I’m going to show you this instead so you can listen to music faster, and theres more of it.” Lilly was clicking the app on her screen, and the screen changed rather quickly. “Search anything your heart contents Eddie.” “Anything?” I asked.
She hummed, and I looked down at the phone in my hands. It wa smaller then my hands. It had seemed that everything nowadays was smaller. Nothing besides stores had gotten bigger. Hawkins was still small and quaint. I let my fingrs press softly into the online keyboard. I pressed until the letters formed words on the bar above the keyboard. I wrote out ‘Metal 80’s’ I heard the softest giggle from besides me, I hadn’t rrealized she was watching over my shoulder so intently. “I figured you go back to your roots.” Lilly commented, “My roots?” I questioned her.
“Yeah you’ve got that metal vibe. I feel like I already said that… Maybe I didn’t. Now I want you to click which ever one interests you the most.” She says returning my attention back to the phone in my hands. I scroll I feel like that’s what I’m supposed to do, I scroll until I see Dio. It’s the cover album that I had painted on the back my jean jacket. “I like this album from Dio, the last in line. Spoke to me a lot when I was kid.” My words stopped dead when a bubble popped up.
A bubble that said calendar event; Birthday to me. I turned looking at Lilly  “it’s your birthday today?” I asked, my attention was drawn away from the potential for music and for the that fact it was Lilly’s birthday. I hadn’t known her long and maybe she had other things more important things to do, either way . She hummed, shaking her head before looking back down at her phone. “Happy birthday? How old are you turning today?” I ask, Wayne had taught me a few things, like always be respectful to women, and never ask their age. “Shit sorry I…”
Lilly laughs for a moment, “If you must know Eddie I’ve turned 22 today.” She’s giggling. “Do you not have things planned?” I ask her, I had already turned 21 and 22 but I remember thinking that it was great to be able to drink legally I guess. Uncle Wayne had given me my ‘first’ real drink a beer that had been sitting in the fridge for who knows how long. I look fondly on the memory. “No haven’t got a one, friends in this town are shotty. I have a feeling you know I mean.” I shake my head.
Agree with her sadly, I had friends before I met the chaos gang of the upside down. Gareth and Jeff had been my friends but that was because we had our band together. “I understand what you mean.” I dropped the conversation sensing that it might not be a great idea to try and continue on with it. “So now you can choose whatever song you wanna listen to from that album.” Lilly said dropping the conversation and going right back into the music thing. I was amazed by the fast selection along with not waiting for the other songs.
“What do you listen to for music?” I asked, wanting unnerving to learn more about Lilly. Not that Lilly wasn’t beautiful to gaze at or that her voice made goosebumps show up on open skin, but I just didn’t want to fuck up. “Well I mean that’s a hard question for me to answer Eddie.” I look at her, hard question. Ask my choice of music any day and it would be the same every single time. “Here Eds,” She glides her fingers over my fingers taking me to another icon, before showing me a huge like list. “My favorites.”
She giggles, there’s a number at the top, “Seventeen hundred songs Lilly! HO-LY SHIT” I’m exgrateratting to no extent but it’s still funny to her face contrast with emgrassament to the knowing look that I’m fucking her with. It’s odd I’ve only known her for a few months and there’s already this unbreakable bond that’s building between us. She rolls her eyes and takes the phone. Snatching it from my hands. “Whatever, you listened to songs on a walkman probably!?” She teases me, I squint my eyes and pretend in the worst way to be mad. “It was records acutally.”
She busts out laughing and it causes a cascade like falling rain of laughter to fall from me. It’s so quiet in the trailer park yet in this trailer in the mid afternoon as the sun is high in the sky somehow it’s so loud and vibrant. The laughter doesn’t stop there, “You most definitely would pass the vibe check!” Lilly says with excitement, my eyes go wide with wonder, “What the hell did you just say to me?” I question her, “It’s just means that you’re cool, like you’d be cool to hang out with.” I hum at her.
“What it means that, here look.” She says bringing her phone back into the conversation, she moves quickly her fingers moving like how my mind works when I’m trying to figure out some D&D storyline. “Look, according to google it means ‘to successfully emanate a cool, chill and laid-back aura.’ Word for word she repeats the words on her phone screen. I can’t help but looked shock, “So you’ve got the slang words to huh?” I ask her suspicion of what other crazy words there are. Lilly looks more shocked than I did, “Yeah we’ve got slang words too.”
With a roll of her eye she’s back on her phone looking for more, “I didn’t really have one for vibe check, but have you heard this one, ‘gag me with a spoon’.” Lillys eyes grow with amusement. “Eddie what did you just say to me?” She’s laughing and talking at the same time. “In simple terms or fucked up ones?” I ask her, she rolls her eyes once more. “Tell me both Eddie.” “In fucked up terms it can mean about a few dozen things, but in simple terms it means that was disgusting, gag me with a spoon.”
She stares at me. Waiting a few moments like she’s trying to think up something new into the world. “I’ve got one better Bussin’” I drag my hand through my hair as wonder and amazement that these slang terms havent’ gotten any fucking better. “Bussin’” I echo her. “Bussin’” She comes with, “Just means amazing Eddie.” Sitting there I think back to my slang terms, words that I used almost daily and then it clicks. “Bussin’ equals gnarly.” I say simple before looking up at her. She hangs wit her mouth open, “Close your mouth you might catch flies Lilly.”
She shuts her mouth quickly. A moment passes, “gnarly doens’t equal bussin, but I have a better one anyways.” She’s trying desperately to coax me into asking her, “I don’t know if I truely wanna know now.” I play from a different angle. She squints her eyes at me, creasing her forehead in the process. “Bougie.” Again we stare at each other, “Bougie” I echo her again. “Bougie.” She echos back. Like a long empty hallway of one worded answers. “Meaning?” I ask, “In your terms, I would say Mr. Harrington house is Bougie, and maybe even his style too.”
She winks at me. “Are you sure that you don’t have any plans?” I ask her once more. She looks down at her wrist, but there’s nothing there. No watch no nothing. “Hmm let me just check, no I’d rather spend it with you… if that's okay.” She says sweetly. Lilly moves from her legs being crossed. “How about we go somewhere?” I suggest she stretches her legs, shorts that ride up her skin. The sun has gone down the laughter causing a large time gap for me. Nearly dinner time anyways. “Why don’t I take you somewhere.” She nods.
Getting up and out isn’t the hard part, it's finding some place to get a late sorta late dinner before I take her to one of my favorite places. “I grabbed my weed if that’s okay?” Lilly asks, I look over at her as I pull into a parking spot in the local outskirts diner in Hawkins. “Yeah of course, I mean it’s your birthday anyways.” I get out of the car and over to her side. Opening her door, “My lady, would you accompany me to dinner tonight?” I ask dramatically moving my body around, she laughs nodding again.
It’s not to crowded but it’s not super empty. Lilly glides to a booth near the back of the dinner. She slides into the seat infront of me and I slide in on the other side across from her. “I know I don’t have a… well any money but I thought I could half assed treat ya.” I mention, she looks up from the menu that was already at the table. “I know Eddie.” Lilly says sweetly going back to look at her menu. It’s not rush hour but there's a few creepy faces around. “Look at your menu Eds.”
I look over and she’s handing me this large plastic covered menu. There are a few hundred choices. Mix and match different orders or half order together to get whatever you want for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. “Eddie, are you alright?” She asks. She's looking over the edge of her menu. It’s like magic how she makes me feel as if we’re the only ones in the diner. I was lost in a world somewhere here and not here. “Yeah, just trying to make a choice is all.” I answer her by eyeing her over the edge of the menu.
She continues to keep her watchful eye on me. Wonderment glossing through her beautiful brown eyes. She hadn’t changed her clothes besides grabbing a sweater before she locked the door behind her. She had a short sleeve low cut shirt on, it gave a rather perfect view of her chest. A pair of bell bottoms, not that they didn’t make her ass look great when she walked in front of me to inside the small diner. As I continue to look over the meals. I’m distracted, as an older gentleman starts walking up towards our booth. Pot belly and all.
He’s slimy, and I can’t help but become over protective over what I’m already considering to be mine, but she’s not mine. Lilly will most likely, most definitely never want me like I want her. I have to curb the anger that is growing stronger in my chest. “Hey doll, what are you doin’ here?” The voice is grating and it makes me even more angry. Lilly doesn't even acknowledge him, that is until he reaches out to touch her. She grabs his hand. He doesn’t know what is happening, just that he’s probably pissing his pants from her grip.
“Shit let go of my hand!” He wasn’t yet screaming or anything, but Lilly was grabbing the attention of many folk within the  diner.  “Why? Do you think it’s alright to go out and touch random female strangers who you think want you to touch them?” Her face was snarled up. Her hand visibly tighten harder around the old mans wrist. I sat in complete and utter awe at her. “What is your problem?” He moaned out, “I’m making a point that you seem to be missin’ get the fuck out of here before you make a larger mess huh!”
Lilly not once raised her voice, and the eerie concern that Hawkins haydn’t changed just every creep or jerk had just gotten older was rubbing underneath my skin. A few moments of the diner being quiet besides a ding of the bell as the old fart ran away with his  tail between his legs. “Whatever just happened I don’t dare want to know how many times you’ve had to do that.” Waving the waitress over. Her apron hung lower on her body a teenager who didn’t want this ghastly job. “What can I get you today?” Monotone voice ringing out.
We ordered and sat in silence for only a few moments before the teenager returned with out drinks. A coke, and one large hot chocolate. The cup was hot was steam rolling off the top of the ceramic cup. “Do you always get a hot chocolate with your breakfast?” I asked winking at her. Lilly rolled her eyes before looking down and blowing softly into the liquid causing tiny ripples to fly through it. “I do infact, never go without a good hot chocolate even if it’s way to hot for the warmth of the hot chocolate to be comforting.”
She sipped her warm drink and I sipped my fizzy drink. Without noticing at all, the waitress was walking our way with two plates and maybe a few more on the way. A simple breakfast for dinner sorta of night tonight was. Calm and peaceful to eat a morning meal before you go to sleep. The wafting smell of pancakes with butter melted into them, eggs with enough salt to kill a horse, sausage links that always made you thought you were eating something just a little spicy. Lilly licked her lips, the teenage left so we can gorge ourselves.
For someone I didn’t know anything about, we made the silence of eating and forks scratching against the porcelain plate comfortable. How we managed to do that I didn’t understand. I got to eating after watching Lilly for to long that she caught my eye on her. The silence is cut short when Lilly ask me a question about my past. “Was this a place you always came to when you were… here before?” She asks, we haven’t figured out what to call my falling through her ceiling yet. “I did, my band and i would stop after a show.”
“Band?” Lilly is so much more intrigued in learning about me. It’s a stark contrast to what I’m used to, the names getting thrown around my head, the way my head would hit a locker or the hard concrete ground in the back parking of that stupid Hawkins highschool. “Eddie?” She asks throwing me out of my head, “Where’d you just go?” She asks, “I… just thinking is all.” I answer her, “Yeah I had a band, I guess you could say it was my baby ya know.” I shove a forkful of eggs and bacon. “So many guitar picks.”
“What?” I had only just managed to swallow the eggs before she bursted those words out of her mouth. “Yeah I swear once Wayne had left the trailer he said to pack away anything I found that was in the room in the back. I don’t think he ever went back in there after you left. But seriously Eddie how many picks did you loose?!” Lilly is on the verge of asking, teasing me I can tell. Her eyes are glinting over. I can’t put my finger on just yet. “I lost many.” I reach up, fishing out my necklace.
“That one important?” She asks, she’s eyeing my hands. “What do you mean?” I only manage to not sound like a dick. “When I took you to the hospital and all, they gave me all of your things to keep safe.” She’s looking at me. “I figure that it was important if it was chained around your neck ya know.” She shrugs. I eat as she talks about my pick that’s around my chain necklace. There’s a growing silence that makes it hard to concentrate on anything other then her. “So is it for a girl? Ya know a gift?”
I see something, ther’es something behind her eyes. A twing of jealousy, a twing of hurt that she might be right that it’s connected to someone who’s special to me. “Nope. More like a gift from my mom before she ah before she passed away.” I answer her dreadful question. The tension in the conversation loosens but something else grows in it’s place. Sadness and pity in her eyes. “I’m sorry Eds, I didn’t mean… I’m glad that you have something of hers.” Lilly speaks quietly. The food on both plates is almost gone and the teeanger is back again.
Dropping the check on the table before takingthe plates away with a rather angsty attitude. I roll my eyes as I see Lilly reach for the check, a few bill she pulls out of her purse. Before I know it Lilly is grabbing my hand and we’re walking out of the diner. It seems darker outside, the sun had set, but regardless of that the cool air is welcomed. In comparison to the diner it’s like a cool bath being outside. Lilly doens’t automatically get into the car rather sitting on her hood. “Take me somewhere beautiful Eddie?” “Of course.”
We sat on the hood for only a few more moments. The sound of passing cars, and the crickets coming out to make way to much noise. She scooted closer, resting her head on my shoulder. With LED’s lights shining down it was hard to look up at the late nights sky to see any of the stars around us. We sat there for a few minutes. In utter and complete silence. “We should probably get going Lilly.” I said in the quite outside air. She hummed not moving until I did. “Okay let’s go Eds,” Lilly whispers to me.
We get into the car, and Lilly is automatically messing with the heating system. I curse that her seats aren’t connected in the front seat. I would love if she just slide over and was resting her head on my shoulder. I would love to have her touching me, I want that. So I make it happen. One hand on the wheel, and another reaching out. My palm up and waiting her touch. She seems to notice, and slips her hand into mine. Now our hands rest on the center console. Radio low, and playing country, Lilly starts singing along.
I can only catch a few of the lyrics, Lilly seems to know the whole song. Starting from the beginning and right up until the melody stops in the background. This process repeats. Until I make it to our destination she sings just under her breath. She’s beautiful and it’s hard for me to not look and stare at her. She’s somehow comfortable with me and so am I. The drive stars to slow down as I have to navigate the rock path that leads to the top of lovers lake. “We’re almost there Lilly. I hope you like it.”
Lilly opens her eyes which I hadn’t notice that they were closed. “Where did you take me, Eds?” Lilly asks, she doens’t let go of my hand. Not that I really want her to. I look down between at our hands, clearing my throat she lets go of my hand. The silence is different this time. Regardless though Lilly grabs her purse and out shuffles again to many things packed away in her small pocket book. She manages to grab onto the bag of small blunts. “Let’s go Eddie, I wanna start smoking.” Lilly says jumping out of the car.
“”By the way this is lovers lake, not that the name has anything to do with the… I just really like coming to this place not that it has changed much which is good.” The words ramble out of my mouth with great speed. Lilly giggles and grabs my hand as I get out of the car after slamming the drivers door. The head lights are turned off giving us a better view of the lite up sky. Stars that shine in their own way. Lilly throws down a blanket the grass pricking through the fabric. “This is comfy Lilly.”
It truly is, and  Lilly only lets go of my hand to smooth out of the blanket and allow for the fours corner to be extended out fully. “Do you wanna pick or let me?” Lilly asks as she sit down next to me on the blanket. She’s digging in the bag with the blunts. “You can pick.” I say looking up towards the sky. The only thing that bring the light to our little area is the lighter, as she picks on for herself and lights it. Picking another for me and lighting it, before placing inbetween my lips.
She lays down next to me. Looking through the tree line. A large open space to let you see the lake down below. It’s all perfect, and in a perfect night like tonight you can see most of the stars reflect down on the lake. “It’s really pretty down here.” Lilly says, as a puff of smoke extends out and evaporates. It mights be cold but with Lilly laying down right next to me I’m so warm inside and out.
“It really is beautiful.” I say. I can’t tell if I’m talking about the lake, the sky, or her. Maybe it’s all of them at once. But I can’t manage to get my eyes off of her. She doens’t seem to care though, it’s like she enjoys being looked at, stared at. I don’t mean to be creepy and maybe she knows that. I take a few puffs of the blunt she handed. This one is fatter then hers. She seems to lost in her own world as she scouts up closer to me. I’m not laying down my legs extend out and allow for Lilly to rest her head in my lap. So close my hearts beats so fast.
We smoke until the blunts run out of smoke and there’s a floating feeling the whisps across the both of us. “Eddie what’s so special about this place?” Lilly asks as she turns her head to look up at me instead of out towards the lake view. I hum and think for a moment. “I used to come here whenever I was sad, mad, or hurt. This was the most peaceful place in all of Hawkins. The town wasn’t very nice to me whenI was around.” I get the words out before something of a teary mixture can get out.
“I feel like I remember your uncle Wayne talking about how the town could be horrible people to the things they cared to not understand, or simple didn’t like.” Lilly said she was still looking up at me, she moved in my lap her arms wrapping around my wasit. She was so warm, and she hugged me tightly. I worried that she might notice how uncomfortable I was growing in my jeans. Thankfully she didn’t say anything, so when she finally let go I took a breath. “I’m sorry people here are dicks.” Lilly says, I look down at her.
“Yeah but you’re not. You’re sweet probably more then you need to be to me. I have to thank you for everything you’ve already done for me.” I say. Lilly blushes and even in the night sky the moon glows down enough for me to see it. “Should we stay here?” I ask her. She shurggs her shoulders. “I don't have anywhere important to be tomorrow.” Lilly says off into the distance of the lake. “Coolio.” I get more comfortable. I start by complete accident gliding my fingers throug her hair. “Eds?” “Yeah.” I stop, “Keep doing that please Eds.”
I don’t stop not until Lilly’s breathe slows and my hands stops I shift and I end up fall asleep right there with Lilly in my lap asleep.

*incoherent noises* Okay!
my initial spoiler 6x11 thoughts:
Maddie’s “which one?” at the very beginning got me misty eyed instantly.
This dream stuff is wild. Loved all the hints and callbacks being made visually and verbally.
Daniel wears gray in the dreams. Neutral territory? And he seems to be the sidelined kid, which is fascinating. Daniel seemed almost... resentful of Buck in the coma dream??? Remember, this is all in Bucks head.
Chimney doesn’t even know Buck in the dreams, but Buck still goes to him for help and guidance. And Hen too.
Christopher at Bucks bedside. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Chris telling Buck he’s gonna be okay, but he has to come back. 🥺
Eddie wearing dark colors the whole time. He’s mourning his partner. Goddddd. He couldn’t even look at Buck. The only time he could look at Buck was once Buck was awake. We may not have gotten a lot of Eddie physically there in the episode, but his absence was loud. I mean, Buck still remembered Eddie in his coma dreams. I’m sure I’ll notice more once I allow myself to think about this episode more. 🤙
Fine I’m bias, but I’m not digging Albert continuing to push “the Buckley parents are trying and so is our dad, Chimney.” I say it later in this post, but I- don’t know how I feel yet about this whole Mr. Han situation, and no. I still don’t trust the Buckley parents. Never.
“If what matters to you most is how people see you, then you haven’t learned a damn thing.” OH THERE IT IS. This is exactly fucking it!! This is the lesson Buck has been needing to learn even before season 6, though the show has made it clearer this season. Buck needs to let go of his past, his parents (in my opinion), because none of that will ever be nor has ever been what Buck wanted or deserved from them. What Buck wants? --> People to see him? He already has it with his family in LA. He has had it for years now with Eddie and Chris, the fire fam, Maddie, etc. Buck already has a dad with Bobby. Oh that message was super clear in this episode. Oh. My GOD. Buck honey, what you want is already a reality. Time to wake the fuck up, please, and see it. Buck needs to live, and live for himself. (and also please please realize that the love of your entire gd life is right in front of you: Eddie)
Bobby is Bucks dad! Buck is one of Bobby’s kids!!!!!! dfgkjhrdfj
…Still need to see how this whole Mr. Han thing plays out. “Sorry, his pride got in the way”???? Idk idk, I can’t tell yet how genuine this seeming path of redemption for Mr. Han is gonna play out. I’ll have to wait and see, but… I gotta say, as of right now, I’m just tired of seeing parents in *gestures* shows/movies/whatever get a redemption arc when I just wish they didn’t. Not everyone needs or deserves redemption. I think? this work towards redeeming Mr. Han seems legit? Which……. I just don’t know yet. I gotta see what the writers are up to.
“Evil” Buck!! Buck is kinda his worst enemy. Our baby girl needs to get so much therapy, and learn to love and choose himself.
Aaaand I still don’t trust the Buckley parents. Once again Buck said “it’s nice.” They’re paying attention to Buck right now because he was hurt and needs to recover. How long will it all last?

hii hope you're having a wonderful day so far! i love your blog and your byler headcanons, do you have any more? take care, sending you a big virtual hug !!💕
thank you SO MUCH and sorry if i answer after a few days i swear i dont know why i didnt see this
anyway, BYLER HEADCANONS ! yes i have so much more
modern mike and will would watch anime; mike’s favorite is bungou stray dogs while will is an evangelion nerd and one of those people who watched every episode of one piece
lucas made will curious about basket, so in his sophomore year he joined the club in lenora. mike hated it at first but started to secretly love this new passion when will got really buff and goes to see his games every time he visits — this also made mike and then the whole party realize how shitty it is to not go to lucas’ games so now they NEVER miss one
will is the first person who reads mike’s stories, because his opinion is the only one he cares about; on the other hand, mike is the last person who sees will’s paintings because he needs to ask every person he knows their thoughts about it since he wants to be sure mike will love it — he gets so nervous about it and mike finds it adorable
when they don’t know what to do they rewatch stand by me, they made everyone in the party hate it but don’t care because it’s their movie and it’s fun to point at the characters and say “hey that’s us!” or “he reminds me of you” and watch everyone third wheel for them
at some point will starts to spend a lot of time with el and max and mike gets ridiculously jealous about it, will dares him to spend a day with them to make him shut up and mike actually enjoys it so they start to hang out all of them together (max and mike fight over will’s attention 24/7 while he just chills with el and ignores them)
once for valentine’s day mike tried to paint something for will and it ended up being the most horrendous thing ever; he never actually gave it to him, will just saw it in his room and said that he should have it since it’s supposed to be a present for him. he actually thinks it’s ugly, but keeps it in his own room anyway because mike made it just for him
when max is feeling bad and doesn’t want to stay at home with his mom she goes to mike’s and will is ALWAYS there. it’s not even funny he’s just there, always, until max asks will why and he says that “mike loves you but he’s scared you might kill him in his sleep if i’m not here”
will tried to put some make up on mike once as a joke but he actually liked it so for a few years he wore eyeliner every single day.
eddie loves will, so every time he visits eddie ditches everyone to stay with him. steve and mike start to bond over their hate for this friendship because they feel excluded while eddie and will have the time of their lives every time they’re together.
when they kiss mike puts his hands on will’s cheeks every time because will once said that he doesn’t like how “puffy” his face is so mike tries to show him how much he likes it instead
