Rose Red.
From dusk to dawn
The rose petals fall
One by one
Mother earth's grief
Rose so red
The vibrant color
Calling forth decay
As injustice becomes awake.

It's certainly plorable
To be afraid
To be angry
To be grieving
When corruption wins
Over compassion
Being brave
To fight
The war of bigotry
May result in death
However, if we
Do not fight
What future
Do we even have?
May the Old Gods
Be with us
As we raise
Our voices
In battle.

Goddess Hel, divine hostess whose arms lovingly embrace all guests, Watch over those who have crossed your gates against their will. Care for those taken from us and bless them with tranquil rest.
Godx Loki, story-teller and guardian of outcasts, Give words to our sorrow so that we may honor their memories. Breathe air into our lungs so we may bellow our love over hatred.
Goddess Hel, cherisher of life and daughter of metamorphosis, Bestow in their loved ones moments of laughter, healing, and peace. May their names echo not just in sorrow but in smiling remembrance.
Godx Loki, change-bringer and waker of revolution, Spark the flames of unrelenting authenticity within us. Stoke the ember of truth until the hateful are blinded by its light.
Under the cut are the siblings, youth, and elders whose lives were taken due to hatred, bigotry, and fear. I understand it is incredibly triggering, but I believe we owe it to them to read their names.
We love you. We are unendingly sorry and we will never stop fighting until the hatred that stole you from this life has been extinguished. We love you so much.

Decided to do some lgbtq art. The line art was technically done by someone else. She sent me prints of her work, and I glued it on blank atc cards and cut off ecsess. Then I colored in non binary and Trans colors and added some of my own line art to it as well. So it's a combination of 2 artists. I'm non binary myself.

My Somber Afliction
Many people suffer and live with various physical afflictions. They are stronger than what we all realize. Even though they are in pain they try to live their lives as normally as possible. They get up when they don't want to. They wake up for the sake of their loved ones. Some people go through their whole lives being disabled from birth. Many of us become disabled over time.
Even though I have lived with developmental disabilities for most of my life, I was not prepared to become physically disabled by 37 years old. There's a stereotype that this age is too young to have gone through what I have been experiencing.  Which in itself is not true. Physical ailments can happen at any age and since the body starts biologically aging and breaking down after 35, it is possible to be young and still go through a debilitating experience.
It all began on one summer day. I love walking through nearby forest paths and live by a recreational park on a river. I decided to try to impress a new friend I had a serious crush on at the time. The problem with this is I am also a big person. Someone who has been obese and morbidly obese all their lives. Extra weight is hard on the body.
I decided to go for a hike with my new friend on these paths and walked about two to three miles. We traveled through dirt paths as well as concrete. The river was calm and the air was crisp and cool for a July afternoon. Birds and wildlife could be heard as well as the rushing waters of the river. It was peaceful. I walked up to the dam and back.  It was a total of about 3 miles. I was sore as I pushed my body past its physical capabilities.
The next day my back was in pain. At first, I didn't think much of it. I worked in fast food and am always sore or in mild pain from being on my feet. I took some over-the-counter pain medication and called it a day.  Or so I thought.
Throughout the next week, the pain was getting worse. Then after a couple of weeks, my left leg and foot were starting to go numb. It was like I was walking and standing on phantom limbs. I could still feel but it was like my leg was in a permanent sleep.
My friend had gone through this before and one day after about a month of suffering, she took me to the emergency room.  She instructed me to tell them I pissed myself saying I would get treatment faster. I didn't want to suffer anymore so I listened to her.
At the Emergency room, I proceeded to tell them that I pissed myself after the end of my work shift. My friend told them she had witnessed it since she was the one to have come to pick me up from work. The hospital ordered an MRI and other tests. It turns out I have a herniated disk pressing on my nerves.
The doctor had called the on-call neurosurgeon and went over the MRI results with him. I was then told I would be rushing into Emergency back surgery the next day to take out part of the disk that was protruding into the nerves.
After surgery recovery went slow. My right leg was super numb after the surgery. There was nerve damage afterward. I had also developed an internal infection at the incision. I had to have a round of strong antibiotics. It cleared up after a week. After 3 months of healing and physical therapy after the surgery, I went back to work.
About a year after my surgery, the disk herniated again, however, this time it was pressing on my sciatic nerves. I could barely walk or function. I couldn't sit without excruciating pain. I couldn't stand for long periods either.  I tried to work while in this pain but every shift I ended up only working about an hour with accommodations before the pain was so intense I was crying.
The General Manager sent me home. I decided to take a leave of absence until I could figure out what was going on. The problem is I couldn't return to work within my absence time limit.  I got released, or so I assume. At this time I became 95 percent bedridden. I only got up to use the bathroom and even then some days I'd sit on the mighty poop throne and cry from pain.
After an ER visit, they told me to contact my neurosurgeon. I did as such and got a new MRI done at the end of September. As it turns out the disk is herniated on my right side and pressing against the nerves on the base of my spine. Since I was morbidly obese at this time, they didn't want to do surgery. It was too high risk. The Neurosurgeon ordered a pain consultation from a different specialist. They wanted to do physical therapy and try different pain meds.  Over time we did find a concoction that started working.
It has been a little over a year since my leave from work and I am still struggling. I am not likely to return to work anytime soon. However, I will say I have improved a lot since last fall when I'd just lay in bed.  I am not as bedridden. I can walk for short distances now. I can sit up without pain for 30 minutes, and I can do some light chores.
It's not where I want to be but progress is progress. This is all due to physical therapy and nerve pain meds. With accommodations, such as a pillow, I can sit in restaurants and socialize. I can walk through a store for about 10 or 20 minutes depending on if I am having a good pain day or a bad pain day.  Also, the sciatic pain that traveled from my lower back down to my foot, has lessoned and may be completely gone. However, I won't risk it.
So even though the pain has gotten better, the numbness on my right side hasn't. Sometimes it gets worse and then better and then worse. This cycle repeats. The numbness makes me a fall risk. I already have spatial awareness issues due to other disorders and the numbness makes it worse. I feel unsteady on my feet half the time. I also walk with a limp because somehow this has affected my hip and the range of motion of my leg.  This itself makes going back to a physically demanding job harder. Due to this, I am not going to be able to return to the fast food or retail industry.
Throughout my life, I have on and off lived through traumatic experiences.  I will say experiencing the level of pain I had was very terrifying. It took a toll on my mental health. One of the core principles I had was that I was never going to be like my mother.
I grew up with a disabled mother. She has similar back issues as I do, if not worse. She has severe scoliosis, three herniated disks, and had a neck fusion done in the 80's due to a car accident she had. She is always in pain. I saw her struggle but didn't completely understand it. She also felt deep shame that she had a hard time expressing. Her shame was put onto us kids. There were times when she treated us horribly because of her physical, emotional, and mental anguish.  It was hard to live with and I didn't want her physical ailments making me as bitter as her.  My mental health took a turn for the worse because it triggered some trauma over my mother's disabilities.
At one point I said I would rather die than live with this pain every day. There is a high rate of suicide among people with disabilities. It is also not just about pain. It is also socioeconomic. People with disabilities who can't work live in poverty. I bet most who can't get assistance end up homeless. I applied for SSDI and there are so many things wrong with the system. There is a vast amount of discrimination against people with disabilities and it makes me fear for the future. I had to challenge my own internalized ableism and let go of old thinking patterns about being disabled. I understand now why suicide rates are high.
Before I became disabled I was already seeing a therapist for trauma, and a psyche nurse for anxiety attacks.  Due to my increasing suicidal Ideation, They upped my dose of antidepressants.  It helped and over time my mental health also became stable. I still have bad days where I just feel sad and depressed over my situation, but they are fewer than before.
I went from walking and hiking trails in a park to being bedridden. I was grieving a part of me I felt I had lost. Who am I as a disabled person? What does this mean for my life? I learned that I had taken so many things for granted. Walking, spending time with my daughter, busing around downtown, and being active.  Being pain-free (physically) is a privilege. For the first time, I felt what true gratitude felt like.
Sciatic pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced. It is even worse than childbirth pain in my opinion, and I am someone who went 24 hours without any pain meds while giving birth to my daughter.  I thought birth pain was the worst at the time. The universe said, "Challenge accepted."
My somber Affliction has taught me about a hidden world of sorts. Instead of a magical paradise, life is more like the dark side of Star Wars. However, I still hold out hope that this crisis will change for the better.

I am doing a fundraiser for my daughter's new tablet. Due to being disabled, we are in a one-income household. I am still waiting and fighting for SSDI.
It may be a long time before I see any money. Even though her current tablet still works, the screen is broken and is being held up with packaging tape. it is a safety issue. If anyone can help us and donate some funds to the cause we would be really grateful.
We don't plan on getting anything extravagant. She's autistic and that is one of the ways she socializes and learns. I also have some commissions up and available to try and earn the money as well.

October is a time of deep spiritual connection, transformation, and preparation for the darker months ahead. For witches, this month holds powerful energy as the veil between worlds becomes thinner, allowing for a deeper connection with spirits and their energies. During this time, we prepare for the colder season, readying ourselves for winter. The vibrations throughout the month are strong, making it the perfect time to practice our magic and align ourselves with the stillness of the approaching winter season.

According to legend, on this day, the Dagda, the father god, and the Morrigan, the "phantom queen," unite to ensure fertility for the land, people, and animals in the coming year. The Morrigan, often described as a goddess of war, begins the ritual as an old woman but is restored to youth and beauty through their union.)

Spoonie Sabath- Mabon
Mabon is here! The fall Equinox is here! Fall has officially begun and spooky season is already in full swing! This is my favorite time of the year. So for those that are new, Mabon is a celtic pagan holiday on the wheel of the year. When it was first introduced to me, I was told it was like a witches Thanksgiving.
It is the second harvest festival where they celebrate the good fortunes they have had this growing season. They give thanks to the Gods who are in charge of harvests and firtility, For without firtility, there couldn't be a harvest of crops! Mabon is the pagan holiday that rests on the Autumn Equinox.
Some witches take out the pagan part of Maybon and just celebrate the balance of light and dark on the equinox as well as just the harvest aspect. The spring and fall equinox is when the day light is equal to night time. It is often a symbol of balance so a witch may focus on balancing their energy, their body, their life etc. So today is another Spoonie list of celebrating this witch's holiday.
Coloring. Coloring can be a great way to balance stress out. There are many coloring sheets out there for fall. Some are kids coloring pages, and some are adult coloring. Whatever one you prefer is just fine. If you have problems with hand jerks or trembles, the kids' coloring sheets would be easier. It's also a great activity to do with kids if you have children or are babysitting for others. Some coloring pages you can get by downloading and printing off the internet. For a designated witchcraft one, they have some on Amazon. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/844987948812638690/
Light a candle. You can light an orange or red candle for Mabon instead of doing a full bonfire. Bonus points if it smells like apples, or pumpkin spice! If you can tolerate scented candles (not everyone can) they are readily available at the Dollar Tree or at Dollar general. There are many instances where people are not able to do bonfire's anyway but it is a favorite pasttime for celebrating the Equinox.
Fall foods. Many of us spoonies are probably not able to engage in baking and cooking up a great feast. Here are some cheats to consider. At wal-mart, they have mini pies for 75 cents (in my area anyway). You can get a Mini Pie for yourself or each of your family members. They are already baked and ready to go. You could warm them up in the microwave if you want to warm them up. Another idea is to get freash baked bread from the bakery. It's already baked good to eat. Pumpkin spice oatmeal for breakfast! or Apple Cinniamon is another oatmeal I love. For a meal for your family, a crock pot meal like chili is a must-have. Chili is easy to make. Just dump a bunch of canned beans, choice of meat and vegetables, and seasoning in a crock pot. There are many crock pot meal recipies out there to choose from. Baked potatoes are a good one, too. You can put them in the oven and you won't have to stand for very long.
Going outside. Going outside to enjoy the weather is good idea if weather permits. You can use a picker upper grabber to pick up leaves, acorns and pinecones to decorate your altars or your shelves. If you are a pagan parent, this a fun activity for kids too. A scavenger hunt is fun and you can do it on your own or with family. Use your mobility devices if you have them. Electric scooters and wheelchairs are aweseome for this if you have them. If you are not able to go outside, maybe have a family member go out and bring the scavenger hunt inside. Have them hide things they found in nature so you can try and find them. I know this isn't doable for everyone but even just sitting outside and watching the squirrels is good enough.
Cleansing your home. Cleansing your space of negative energies is a way to get rid of that no longer serves you. Many witches cleanse once a month anyway, but sometimes those of us with limited spoons can't always cleanse as often as we like. It also depends on the method of cleansing. Opening windows and smoke cleansing is what is most preferred and most taught method. Depending on our living situations, it's not always ideal. Some ideas to cleanse with minimal energy are to use sound cleansing music on youtube. There are several videos out there for sound cleansing. You can even use your own tools such as rattles, Bells, or drums if you have them. Another cleansing method is to use a spray. You can make your own using water and essential oils or using plain salt water works. It is something that is easy, and all you have to do is spray the room!
Stones. If you have a cage necklace, putting a gemstone associated with Mabon in it is a great way to celebrate. This is a great option if you don't have any energy to do anything else. Saphire, Yellow and Red Agates, Amethyst, Lapis Luzille, and Cornealian are the gemstones associated with Mabon. Right now, I am wearing Amethyst.
Donating to charities. Part of Mabon is giving thanks for the abundance we have in life. You could make a one-time donation to a charity of choice. Giving thanks for our abundance are in congruent with giving to people in need. Many of us Spoonies are probably on fixed incomes and may not be able to donate money. This is fine. Giving back to someone in need is the goal here. If you have any clothes collecting dust, you can donate to nursing homes, homeless shelters, and womens shelters. If you crochet or knit, you could make hats, scarves, and mittens for donations as well. Maybe a witchy friend needs some help with research.
Decorating. Mabon is a great time to do some decorating for fall and for spooky season. For us (spoonies), it can seem daunting and out of reach to do a whole house of fall decor. So let's pick one spot and decorate to the best of our ability. I have a general altar by my bedside on my nightstand. It can also be one spot in a book shelf, or even just one ornament. The goal is to decorate on a smaller scale so it is not so overwhelming. Also, it is okay to ask for help. If you have a PCA or friend/family member who can help you, it would be ideal. You may be able to cover more ground that way if you can get help with this activity.
Journaling. Journaling may end up in every article I write. So what do you journal about during Mabon? Start a gratitude journal, or write in the one you already have if you have one. Also, you can journal your goals and intentions for the upcoming year. This you can do laying down or sitting. Journaling helps us to see what we did accomplish and what we didn't . You may journal about new steps, new ideas, and anything that may help you accomplish your goals and intentions this year. Another option to journal about is journaling thoughts and ideas that no longer serve you. Journal about those negative thoughts about yourself or others and release the negativity to re-energize yourself.
Reading and doing research on Mabon or other fall celebrations around this time of year. There is so much to learn about this history of ancient pagans and their lore. Read some stories such as persephone's abduction and descent back into the underworld. Mabon is actually relatively new and based on Gerald Gardner's Wicca. Wicca is a neo-pagan religion that uses witchcraft. History is important to learning about making your own practice yours. https://www.reddit.com/r/witchcraft/comments/1flpdd7/happy_mabon/ This is just an overview.
Meditate. Meditation can be done laying down or sitting up. Whichever method you may prefer. Meditation on balance can be done in any way you can. Youtube has tons of meditation videos you can do to balance your energy. Youtube also has Mabon music and meditation videos, specifically for Mabon.
Celebrate Late. If you are not able to celebrate on the 20 or 21st and still want to, celebrate on a different day. In my opinion, you can celebrate anytime from the 18th-24th. Some older festivals lasted for days anyway.
If you don't have the energy, celebrate it when you are able to. Don't push yourself just because you feel you have to. If you miss this holiday, dont worry about it! You're still a pagan witch! Ancient pagans relied on the lunar calendar, and it is likely that the second fall harvest didn't land on the equinox.
