Whether your parents are alive or passed, whether they were loving towards you or mixed with complexity derived from pain, they too are or were someone’s child and that spirit of play, the desire to play & connect & frolic: nothing is more natural between us all & the continuum through the barrages of war or the lilt & upliftment of peace - no matter the age of this world nor the age of our bodies, the spirit of connection through play survives it & we can make more! What to do with this life & this culture here forward? Ceaselessly follow this impetus to make snowballs, make confetti, make a party of laughter & awe for even being here at all & say wow!! Wow, the chill of this cold that makes the fluff of the stuff of snow possible… bears, foxes, deer, humans; we all live to frolic & discover the softness in the glide that is a wonder of being here in the thick of the season that is snowy white & killing off the tick larvae, for one, if cold enough for long enough expressing as this delicate & perfect cycle of nature inviting us to become strong naturally & play & be children that frolic because that is what love is, what love wants is the deeply inherent giggle of a babe to unfold & evolve into our later wisdom of frolic & the dogged commitment to joy & love of all children as we love ourselves & want all of us to be strong enough for long enough to play long & hard in softness awaiting our arrival so we can meet it & glide & giggle in it: that kind of wow. How we are constantly falling in love is by noticing endless beads of beauty everywhere wild & seeking it out & finding the treasure that is a feast for all senses. The smell & sight & motion & sharing, divine. The non-poisonous sumac is our midwest indigenous anti-inflammatory equivalent of turmeric; this prepared as tea by soaking overnight becomes a morning delight. I am here. We are here. Here is my story. What is your story? I was once a foster-child. My father tried to force my mother to abort me. I’m grateful for how my mother protected me. I forgave & loved & love my father, too. They were not equipped to make it to the end in parenting; instead, they tried & failed spectacularly while still bestowing perfectly remarkable gifts unto me despite these other spectacular failures. My foster family is a part of my journey of being strong & healthy & alive today & we need more of this in the world. For every moment I am grateful. My own child, he has a whole & healthy loving relationship with me & his father. Positive progress is possible & worth commiting to & celebrating. There are about 450,000 kids currently in foster care… That’s allot!!! Who is going to care about these children!? They are our responsibility & our consequence whatever we do or do not do.
