I think my favorite shenanigan that the leverage gang pulls is when they discover that a mark has some entirely tangential fixation and they immediately latch on to the opportunity to nettle him in a devastatingly laser-targeted way. not even related to the con just for personal fulfillment.

like oh, you’ve spent weeks obsessing over what type of wood to use for your new house? whoopsies! looks like somebody just canceled your custom flooring order! gosh, how weird is that?

oh, you’re really attached to the moniker you use to strike fear in your victims & colleagues? hope you don’t mind if we get your associates to start mocking it for the entire episode and ensure it gets written down wrong in your FBI files.

rewatching fantasy high for like the fourth time and every watch i am taken aback at how forthcoming and fun the ragh/gorgug ship is. like its right there. i shipped them from the beginning but i mean this ship has some real water underneath it. i feel like no one talks about them enough. like bully to lovers is such a fun trope and ragh has grown so much that it would be like the least toxic version of that trope fr. ragh was pretty obsessed with gorgug from day one. when the bad kids killed and then interrogated him/helped him start working through his feelings ragh literally kissed gorgug on the cheek and told him he was awesome and should do bloodrush (which might i remind us that bloodrush was like one of the highest things he valued in his crush on dane). and then they kissed at prom?? hello???? they’re right there and they’re so cute. PLEASE THEY BOND OVER NOT KNOWING WHO THEIR DAD IS. istg how is this not a more popular ship?

i think ladyhawke is also about how loneliness dehumanizes us. Like at this point in the curse, Navarre has become such a self reliant loner that he can barely hold a real conversation, all his awareness has been turned inward and his outward presentation suffers for it. It makes him seem wild and feral (especially when he grabs Marquet by the shoulders and, for lack of any WORDS to say about his betrayal and murder of one of Navarre's loyalists, just shakes him like a dog). Meanwhile Isabeau has held onto her socialization skills, but she's lost all of her own drive at the beginning of the film, content to stay on Navarre's arm and follow him for as long as she can, unable to see he's driving them both to suicide. they've both adopted the unthinking traits of their animal forms; respectively, the single-mindedness of the lone wolf and the blind loyalty of a trained bird.

oh & whilst I'm leverageposting- been thinking abt how in the Beantown Bailout Job (2x01) the crew is trying to convince Nate to get involved in the cons again, but he’s not having it, and their strategy for engaging him is just to hang out in his apartment and loudly crosstalk about how 'gee, we really want to help these poor people, but it’s all so complicated and we just don’t understand it! It sure would be great if there was somebody around who could explain it to us… perhaps in some kind of monologue… alas…'

and Nate buckles in like forty-five seconds. character beat of all time. made even more compelling by the knowledge that that would definitely work on me too
