So, in light of recent/current events- specifically on the topic of homonationalism, I'd like to bring your attention to this song that came out in 2018:

gender used to be so strange to me. i couldnt be full on masculine or feminine or i would literally combust into flames. i always had to be BANG ON in the middle, wearing super baggy, masculine clothes that hide my body BUT never daring to leave the house without eyeliner or pretty nails. little me was so confused but never dared to try to identify with being anything but cis for fear of disrespecting the community in case i ever changed my mind.

im so glad ive given it a lot of thought in the past year and realised im just non binary and i dont have to cosplay being a girl

and i started identifying as it before i was certain, and it felt so natural i stuck with it. and that is SO OK!!!!!

inclusionists who think and try to force everyone else into believing that anyone who isn’t vanilla and/or is in a heterosexual relationship actually is kweer is so funny, but then i remember that they’re an actual reason why the lgb community is what it is today and i’m horrified. being in the lgbt+ community used to mean something, but now a heterosexual into bdsm or a furry or a person who identifies as one of the variations of gender fluid or thinks that because they’re a biological male that wears skirts or a furry or a male who sexualizes lesbians and is super into mff threesomes or a pedophile or would be ok with potentially dating a trans/nonbinary person kweer or other while apart of the lgbt community and so much more is wild. so called kweer/lgbtqiap2s+ people are more concerned with being called the right pronouns and having drag queens read books to children care about actual hate crimes and discrimination towards same sex attracted individuals in the western world and refuses to acknowledge other countries like uganda who declared homosexuality a crime that will receive the death sentence. a server calling you “sir” is not the same as being murdered for your sexuality, sir. and people wonder why there’s an increasingly number of people against lgb’s, but then again who cares it’s really the transgender women who have it worst in the whole entire world out of all of human history 🙄

I think about this a lot...

I just want you all to know, even if you don't see any people in your area with pronoun pins or bright, queer clothing, or with clockable traits, there's a very good chance you're surrounded by queer people who are blending in with the cishets. You're not alone.

Ever since I've started passing, I've had this repeated thought... I'll be in a public place and I'll see someone who's almost definitely queer, and it makes my day, but then I wonder, do they see me? Do they know I'm here? Do they understand that I'm one of them?

To be passing is what a lot of trans people see as the end goal, but, if you're not trying to be stealth but simply not going out of your way to display that you're queer, it can come with a profound sense of sudden exclusion - like you're too passing to count anymore, or like you'll be unrecognizable to your queer siblings

So, for everyone's benefit, I just want to say, remember that there are those of us who don't stand out. Don't assume every person that you don't clock as trans is cis. Don't assume every person that you don't clock as gay is straight. We speak out against cisheteronormativity, but to protect ourselves and remain in the safe bubble of those we expect to be safe for ourselves, we are often times perpetuating it

i just think it would be cool to see multigender people represented in discussions of gender politics more frequently, which is to say more than never.

the same goes for discussions of art, sexuality, the trans experience, the nonbinary experience more specifically, representation in media, so on & so forth. i just think it would be cool if the community didn’t treat us like a phase or non-entity.

The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.

In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ as they adopted the word as was used by homosexual men, except that society also used it as an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The wider queer community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.

The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.

The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities. 

Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism. 

In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedan, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.

In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals. 

Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym. 

GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis. 

Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+. 

In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.

The Senate has been in a "do something!" mode regarding children's online safety. They're using this as an excuse to push for widespread internet censorship and surveillance. The EARN IT Act, has a slimmer chance of passing with widespread opposition and some senators saying they won't vote for it. TLDR;The real threat is actually KOSA (s.1409), the Kid's Online Safety Act, which will mass censor and surveill the entire internet by giving all 50 state attorney generals the power to remove content that is "harmful" for kids, and force you to upload your govt ID online to access the internet. I'll explain how it works below the action items but it's absolutely urgent that anyone who likes having a free and open internet fights back. It's all hands on deck, because this has so much public support it's insane:

The opposition is getting absolutely drowned online. Dove has nearly 100k signatures to push for KOSA. Influencers on tiktok are pushing for this without ever having read the bill. Fucking Lizzo is sponsoring it. If you have twitter, reddit, tiktok, are in any community, SPREAD THE WORD, PLEASE.

HOW KOSA WORKS

First, KOSA pressures platforms to install filters that would wipe the net of anything deemed “inappropriate” for minors. This means instructing platforms to censor. We saw how these filters impacted websites firsthand with tumblr in 2018, with not only blocking all adult content but also sfw queer content such as suicide hotlines, art archives, wiping out entire blogs because they had queer fandom related posts, etc. Places that already use content filters have restricted important information about suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ support groups. KOSA would spread this kind of censorship to every corner of the internet. And who gets to decide what is and isn't harmful for minors? Oh don't worry, just every single state attorney general and the FTC, which is appointed by the president. You know, the same attorney generals that just banned gender-affirming healthcare under the guise that it "ruins mental health" of minors. This is why the Heritage Foundation was one of the first to sponsor the bill because they can use it to censor trans content, and Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee is it's co-author.

Second, KOSA would ramp up the online surveillance of all internet users by forcing websites to use age verification and parental monitoring tools. Yup, that's right. Now every single person who wants to access the internet has to upload their govt ID online to third party apps that get hacked all the time. You queer in a red state? You undocumented? You an activist? Have fun getting all your online activity and metadata attached to your govt ID.  

Over 90+ human and LGBT rights groups agree that KOSA is dangerous and updates to the 2023 version won’t and can’t address the big problems with the bill. This bill has MASSIVE bipartisan support, and the authors Blumenthal and Blackburn (yes, that Blumenthal that's pushing the EARN IT Act, and who also sponsored the RESTRICT Act and SOPA/PIPA if you remember) are using the tragedy of mothers who lost their kids to online harassment and young adults who've been traumatized online to lobby for it, and got Dove the company to use a bunch of influencers to push for this under the guise it prevents eating disorders...I wish I was lying. There are already 30 co-sponsors.

It is all hands on deck. I'm dead serious when I say if this bill is passed it is the beginning if not end of the open and free internet.

It’s just sad that the existence of Black people will always be deemed “controversial,” and pandering. Like, we can’t ever just simply exist anywhere without being harassed and ridiculed for being alive and included. There always has to be some big conversation about why are we even part of a thing in the first place and the “but what about the ACCURACY-“ crowd screaming at the top of their lungs for air.

And so many Black people are tired. Most of us have become desensitized to such vile because we literally have to in order to survive and move on.

The whole recent bullshit with Yasuke has actually been going on for quite a while now actually. At least on and off. Whenever he’s brought up, the comment section on any post and website regarding his existence and stature as a samurai is usually heavily debated and ridiculed. This is just another occurrence of this.

Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, the actress who plays Juliet in the UK play, only got harassed because of of course, being a Black woman, and because of her White co-star, Tom Holland, being part of the production. No one wouldn’t have even known about the play if it weren’t for him playing Romeo. He’s never publicly came out to use his voice and defend her despite most of the people harassing her being his fans and just white people in general. Nbs and unfortunately, Black men and pick-me’s have been also joining in on the harassment because the hatred of Black women is so potent. And the harassment of Halle Bailey for playing The Little Mermaid…….. Like mosquitoes to a fucking lamp. People will jump at any opportunity to publicly shame Black women for literally no reason. It’s fucking disgusting and we can’t really count on anyone to really defend us outside of other Black women and the lgbt community most of the time. It’s so fucked up, bro.
