Finally caught up on the last episode of this Dr. Who season and like many others I am not excited about in-universe retconning of Belinda's story from starting a new job at the hospital to being a single mom, but I actually do like the theory someone put out that this was supposed to be Ruby's send off. It really would work so well - Belinda honestly didn't do much this episode that couldn't have been taken over by Carla or something, and having Ruby - the one who remembers Poppy from the previous timeline, the one who pushed so hard for getting her back - be the one to take Poppy in would fit Ruby's story much better than Belinda.

And honestly? I kind of love the Tegan of Belinda's original story - some rando who wandered onto the TARDIS by mistake and just wants to get home to her new job, while the entire universe conspires against her XD I could see the finale as have originally been the ending of a second season of three - the Reality War happens, Ruby goes off to look after the kid, Belinda decides that she actually does want to travel with the Doctor (like in the TARDIS scene before the whole Poppy thing) and comes on as companion full-time for the last season.

Alas! Maybe someday we'll hear the behind the scenes story of what happened this season, but otherwise I suppose we'll just have to fanfiction it out ourselves :)
