The Brutalistâs most intriguing and controversial technical feature points forward rather than back: in January, the filmâs editor DĂĄvid Jancsó revealed that he and Corbet used tools from AI speech software company Respeecher to make the Hungarian-language dialogue spoken by Adrien Brody (who plays the protagonist, Hungarian ĂŠmigrĂŠ architect LĂĄszlĂł TĂłth) and Felicity Jones (who plays TĂłthâs wife ErzsĂŠbet) sound more Hungarian. In response to the ensuing backlash, Corbet clarified that the actors worked âfor monthsâ with a dialect coach to perfect their accents; AI was used âin Hungarian language dialogue editing only, specifically to refine certain vowels and letters for accuracy.â In this way, Corbet seemed to suggest, the productionâs two central performances were protected against the howls of outrage that would have erupted from the worldâs 14 million native Hungarian speakers had The Brutalist made it to screens with Brody and Jones playing linguistically unconvincing Magyars. Far from offending the idea of originality and authorship in performance, AI in fact saved Brody and Jones from committing crimes against the Uralic language family; I shudder even to imagine how comically inept their performances might have been without this technological assist, a catastrophe of fumbled agglutinations, misplaced geminates, and amateur-hour syllable stresses that would have no doubt robbed The Brutalist of much of its awards season ĂŠlan. This all seems a little silly, not to say hypocritical. Defenders of this slimy deception claim the use of AI in film is no different than CGI or automated dialogue replacement, tools commonly deployed in the editing suite for picture and audio enhancement. But CGI and ADR donât tamper with the substance of a performance, which is whatâs at issue here. Few of us will have any appreciation for the corrected accents in The Brutalist: as is the case, I imagine, for most of the people whoâve seen the film, I donât speak Hungarian. But I do speak bullshit, and thatâs what this feels like. This is not to argue that synthetic co-pilots and assistants of the type that have proliferated in recent years hold no utility at all. Beyond the creative sector, AIâs potential and applications are limitless, and the technology seems poised to unleash a bold new era of growth and optimization. AI will enable smoother reductions in headcount by giving managers more granular data on the output and sentiment of unproductive workers; it will allow loan sharks and crypto scammers to get better at customer service; it will offer health insurance companies the flexibility to more meaningfully tie premiums to diet, lifestyle, and sociability, creating billions in savings; it will help surveillance and private security solution providers improve their expertise in facial recognition and gait analysis; it will power a revolution in effective âpre-targetingâ for the Big Pharma, buy-now-pay-later, and drone industries. Within just a few years advances like these will unlock massive productivity gains that weâll all be able to enjoy in hell, since the energy-hungry data centers on which generative AI relies will have fried the planet and humanity will be extinct.

woke up really early in the morning and I'm drawing...I get really sentimental at dawn, allow me to just drabble away...
In my opinion, the character Kamiki is one of two extremes:
Either he is extraordinarily evil, or he is extraordinarily kind...
Looking at the story, Ai was protecting that person by risking everythingâher own happiness (she wanted to be with this person forever), even putting her career in danger. She took everything upon herself, saying she couldn't give up because those children were hers with that person, and she decided to raise them.
In that case, itâs the latter. No, it really has to be the latter because Iâm not bad at psychological analysis, you know? At least up to the point when they broke up, that really was his personality. I thought, "Huh? What is this?" and after that, I really watched closely, and I even managed to predict what he's actually done. I DID THAT.
Iâve never been a mother, but from a motherâs perspective, thereâs this natural instinct to protect and care for oneâs children, right? Especially if thereâs affection for them. I'm not all about maternal love is absolute, or something like that, what I'm coming from is that, if you have children, unless you're a really terrible parent, you want good things for them and YOU are the one that shields them from harm, and watch over them and all... You get these sorts of feeling when you look at little kids who aren't your own as well, if they ARE your own, I feel like that protective, loving affection would only increase.
But Ai asked her CHILDREN a favor to help their dad. This means... her feelings for her boyfriend were as powerful compared to her feelings as a mother, you know? The fact that she, as a mother, is counting on her children to aid him... it means it was a very strong desire, something she deeply wished for. It even...I don't think it's the perfect word but overwrites? makes her set aside her feelings as a mother if it means she can help the guy. She loves him so much. THAT MUCH. He's really someone she loves and wants to tend to. She couldn't give up on him... It also means that she trusts him that much as well because why make her own kids get close to someone who can be dangerous?
Given this, I think itâs not just highly likely, but practically certain that Aiâs boyfriend was an exceptionally good person.
For someone to evoke such deep feelings in Ai, they canât be ordinary. Ai had a strong distrust of people, you know. She was very wary.
Kamiki... thereâs something about him... When he talks, it feels like heâs accommodating others to an excessive degree, suppressing his own emotions and enduring while being considerate of others. Thatâs what I sensed.
Just like Ai had her own pent-up frustrations but still smiled, this character seems to be doing the same thing. He has no inner monologue when he appears in the present, so itâs hard to fully grasp his thoughts, but he must be in pain. If you look at the flashbacks, itâs clear he used to be, but like Ai, he doesnât show it on the surface, which leads to misunderstandings.
After hearing his voice, Iâm even more convinced;
This person seems like an exceptionally good person. Could he really be capable of doing something bad? I get the feeling heâs exactly the kind of person Ai would choose... Ai truly risked everything for him. She gave all her heart to this one person and I feel THAT'S why she was happy about having their children as well.
I believe this character would absolutely do the same for Ai and their children. Iâm pretty sure Iâm right. I keep looking at him, and the way he acts is very sweet. He doesn't have to be that way, but that behavior is consistent... this really gets to me, it's so contradictory to the accusations he's been faced so I end up talking about a lot because I keep seeing things. Is this guy REALLY evil? I guess it'll be sorted out soon but I'd even go as far as to say that he could have really done.. nothing so wrong... anyhow Ai really loves him. That's really endearing... and if he's what I think he is, he really is someone who can deserve that.. everything clicks to me if he is!!!! I won't have a clue on what's up with all this if he isn't!!
It's a bit late to say this, but my favorite type is "someone whose heart is so generous that they sometimes suffer losses, but they accept it with a broad understanding."
Itâs not about a specific character; thatâs just the kind of person I consider my ideal type...
I sometimes wonder, "Am I reading the character this way because I want them to be like that?" But honestly, I didnât really have any thoughts like that until I read chapters 152-154.
I can recognize characters like this when I see them. Iâm serious... because I always have them as my favs. (I'm still being really cautious regarding this guy but I see signs of him being this way)
I understand why Ai liked this character so much if that's the case then. Itâs because such a person is incredibly rare and a gift to the world...You want to protect these types of people, preserve them, and help them out. I feel like that's what she wanted to do for him.
At this point, I want to think "Whatever happens, happens." I really need to stop thinking so much about this subject, it's a comic and it's all about having fun, but..
That character, in my opinion, is one of two things:
Either theyâre a psychopath who's been acting all along, or theyâre a total pushover, someone with an unusually high threshold for anger, drowning in self-doubt, who keeps enduring without being able to express their rage.
Both are extreme to the point of being inhuman, but I think itâs the latter. I really believe itâs the latter...
and it's stressful seeing that kind of person being misunderstood if he is you know!! I think this is it though!! Because Ai wants to protect him with all her might and I get that if he's really like this!!

There are some very dark themes spread here and there, but I think the story is ultimately about "love" and passion. Moving into the light. I agree with your take, I feel like Hikaru's actions stem from his devotion towards Ai. He.. used to be really soft. The only thing that'd change him to take some extreme measures and become more ruthless(if he's ever been so) would be his desperation towards Ai and her well-being. I believe he really does love her that much. If he's someone she's loved so much, I feel he'll eventually understand her true wishes too. Love is a very powerful thing..!

Third paragraph YES! couldn't agree more on that as well! Ai is a great character. She's so human with human flaws and weaknesses and insecurities, but she's also so strong. I'd be so proud of her if she's really existed, I'd give her a big hug and tell her she's tried her best and endured so much for the sake of others. What Ai expresses in the video is so powerful. He's the one she wants to have a child with, that's HUGE... and so tender. She wanted to keep them because she wanted to stay with him forever and that's like one of the biggest love confessions someone could make towards another. She liked him that much, so I feel they would have felt happy together for her to feel that way towards him. Having a family would have meant so much for Ai, she's a very hurt person inside and he was the one person she chose, after all she's been through. There MUST have been things about him she loved dearly enough to convince her "yes, this is the guy I want a future with, I want his kids. I want to stay by his side forever and carry everything as a couple together". Thinking about that makes me feel really tender inside and it makes me want to appreciate this couple. That's.. really wholesome. She doesn't feel that being with him would be bad for her, quite the contrary. So I draw them that way, with them sharing some precious moments together. I think that'd be the truth of how their relationship would have been. I can't create from scratch- I always need something from the original work to work from when I draw out a fancomic, and what I've been drawing's mostly been created through rearranging and being more descriptive of what's already there! Most of it's really what exists in the piece, with just a little bit of my imagination to help it slightly develop. I look back at the comic a lot as I draw, but I feel I could get bolder and explore things more, thanks to your positive feedback. Thank you very much!
Fourth paragraph, Yes!!// I really get fixated on the specific parts of the plot and I'm not very good with every detail (it's not that I don't understand, but I focus most of my analyses/energy in the areas I feel really passionate about) but what you mentioned is something that's made me ponder at least once. I have two theories about this: one being realistic and one having fantasy elements- but they may interconnect with each other.
I was surprised when I first read that Ai's children were originally going to be stillbirths without souls..; If her children with Hikaru were born lifeless, that'd have hurt her immensely. It'd have been so sad;; So Tsukuyomi essentially saved Ai as well, along with the two souls who were reincarnated as them, by helping them meet with each other like that.
The realistic explanation on why Ai's children could have been stillborns, I think, would be that she was constantly under a huge amount of stress with a lot welled up inside her. She was going through a lot of pressure, her group members left her feel isolated, she had to meet expectations, and she had to decide to leave a relationship she really wanted to stay in. I think there's a part in the movie arc where they say Ai had a lot of anger within her too. Feelings like that can take a toll on your body, and it could have affected her kids.
Another theory (the one with fantasy elements) I have is that Ai might not have been able to have children with souls to begin with, because she was originally not a human but an inanimate being-a star-a god. She wasn't meant to have children because she must return to the stars and the ocean once her duty's been fulfilled? But another divine being, Tsukuyomi, who's in charge of the fate and souls of people, could have taken pity on Ai's situation as a fellow god and helped her safely have her children and experience the love she wanted before her life ends.
I have written out some speculations on this aspect and a comic based on this idea, Tsukuyomi could have been Ai(and Hikaru)'s colleague or acquaintance. She may have picked out the two souls that could really love and help her, as the god of fate.
Since she's the god who guides fate(and souls too, conveniently)Tsukuyomi could have been able to figure what may happen to Ai and prepared things in advance. That's the only explanation I could come up with for the time being!
If this is the case, Tsukuyomi would be one of Ai and the twin's biggest ally. I feel she's a character who means well, although she does get pushed around by the twins XD she adores them. I say..maybe in a way an aunt would to their nephews(if she really is an acquaintance of their parents in some way which I HOPE SO? it makes sense her to do them favors and such if she is??)
