You know what, I’m just gonna say it. I think that Alastor being aroace is part of the reason he’s so shippable to me.

Before you come at me, check the flag in my pfp; I’m aroace-spec.

Maybe it’s me projecting, maybe it’s because I love exploring relationships through an aroace lens, but goddamn. I ship him more than any other character and every time I do, his aroaceness is a major component in the ship.

We have the pre-canon kinky QPR that I show in UH3. I could talk about that all day, but to summarize:

Aroace x genuinely respectful allo is a dynamic that heals my soul.

Lucifer is less tied down by human constructs like amatonormativity, having never been human himself.

The Devil values consent.

Kinky cannibalism, kinky cannibalism, kinky cannibalism, kinky ca- *I am removed from the stage with a comically large hook*

Then we have the Evil and fucked up QPR dynamic:

And of course, trying to get along for Charlie’s sake and eventually bonding over their shared love of dad jokes and musical theatre, both being violinists (yup, Alastor plays violin too, check the wiki) with niche hobbies/interests (ducks, furby organ) and accidentally winding up in a loving, healthy QPR.

There’s something about an aroace and a sex worker who very rarely falls in love.

Angel would know that Alastor isn’t with him for sex, would know that he values Angel beyond his body.

With greyro Alastor, Angel and Alastor would both be inexperienced with romance, but in wildly different ways. Angel has never had a healthy romantic relationship and therefor tries not to fall in love. Greyro Alastor has probably experienced romantic attraction like less than three times in his 100+ years of existence.

And if Alastor never gains romantic attraction for Angel, that’s a whole other level to the dynamic.

It’s got some great angst potential with Angel wondering if he’s not good enough to love romantically or Alastor feeling guilty or confused as to Why It Hasn’t Happened Yet when he cares for Angel so deeply, and eventually it gets resolved with the two of them accepting that their attractions don’t have to match up for them to love/appreciate/care for each other and they smash the amatonormative relationship hierarchy as queer platonic partners.

Or, Angel’s just totally cool with it from the start because he’s spent decades in the kink scene and has potentially been exposed to more relationship anarchy than Alastor.

Kink and queerness have a great deal of historical and cultural overlap, and that includes aroace queerness. Because Angel’s had way more canon exposure to both, it’s possible he knows more about Alastor’s orientation than Alastor does, and I love the idea of Angel introducing him to terms or just being super chill about not labeling things.

Drawing like 90% from pilot dynamic and headcanon on this. They’re just two old men. They get drunk and cuddle. Alastor is one of the few people who knows Husk can purr and takes advantage of this fact. Alastor considers Husk a friend in a fucked up, possessive way. Husk considers Alastor a pain in the ass, but does care about him on some level.

And the versions where the author puts them through fanfic couple’s therapy and actually gets them into a healthy point in their relationship? One where Alastor no longer owns Husk’s Soul? *chef’s kiss*

For me, personally, this is an exclusively nonsexual, non-romantic ship. They’re besties; they’re QPPs. They’re married for the tax benefits and so that they cannot be forced to testify against each other in court.

Ok, so this is entirely based on non-canon-compliant Lilith. Or, I guess, non-series-compliant Lilith. More of the old WOG stuff from the pilot era, with a healthy dose of headcanon for flavor.

I love the idea of Lilith and Lucifer having an open marriage; I love the UH3 style polycule dynamic.

Lilith being the original seductress and Alastor being aesthetically but not sexually or romantically attracted to her is very near and dear to my heart.

I’m an aroace with a voice kink who is aesthetically attracted to Lilith and I think Alastor is an aroace with a voice kink who would be aesthetically attracted to Lilith, ok?

I’m gonna be real with you, 90% of my interest in RadioStatic is in the one-sided version where Vox is a pathetic little incel simp and Alastor is either oblivious, mildly annoyed, or finds the whole thing hilarious.

Whenever there’s any reciprocation on Alastor’s part, I always imagine it being in a very aroace, very Alastor-esque way. He needs to be get something out of it completely unrelated to sex/romance. And he needs to be manipulative and sadistic in the process.

Whether that something is kink-related, a business transaction, or simply the quality entertainment provided by Vox being a cringefail TV-headed little bitch, I love to see it.

• the sanji bit threw two thoughts into my head and it's both the "I love women (romantic)" thing and "i love women (trans)" thing.

Romantic: Sanji starts off all laughing at the overdramaric misery of his friends being step-clowns (new insult courtesy of him), but then, as he's serving Robin and Nami some snacks, he catches sight of the loose papers pile. He offers to assist with organizing it so Robin can enjoy her book and Nami can enjoy her newspaper and drink. They graciously accept, and he takes his place there with a smile, begins sorting them between fliers and bounties.

Then he finds a certain article.

The One That Trash Talked Buggy For Being Trans.

Oh that shit is NOT gonna fly. Sanji is livid. Not only is that just.... mean, but he may have been in his own variant of ""hell"" on the okama island, but he met so many people between his training, and there's nothing WRONG with it. Women are women and women deserve RESPECT, damn it!!

Then, as he's frothing, he finds a bounty - updated since her coming out, name still the same, amount still higher than most expect, but the picture is changed.

He doesn't even realize his nose is bleeding until a drop falls on the paper.

Poor Sanji has to play off the heart flutters and face flush and nosebleed as sheer Respect Women Juice Induced Anger and not a flutter crush on a clown.

Nobody believes him but he still gives it the old college try.

It only really "comes out" as it were when the crews wind up meeting. Luffy is immediately tucking himself into Buggy's personal space with big smiles and bigger laughter, wrapping around his auntie-mom happily. She huffs but let's him cling, a sign enough on its own that she isn't all that bothered. And the eye roll, the half smile, the gruff hair ruffle-

Oh poor Sanji is gone. He is swooning, is spinning, is presenting a snack and affirmations. The other Strawhats are rolling their eyes, casual flippancy, fond exasperation.

Crocodile and Mihawk are Processing, Buggy is flustered and astounded, and it winds up bringing out a slight possessive streak in the two dark haired former warlords and it is HILARIOUS.

Trans route:

Sanji gets SUCH gender envy, and things go fairly similar to the above, but they wind up actually becoming something really soft and sweet with Sanji carefully hedging questions and Buggy just going "due are you a fucking dumbass, your crew loves you, they'd defend you to the ends of the world, they'd never be mad that you're a woman"

Sanji: I'm trans.

Ussop: oh I'm nonbinary! Neat!!

Nami, a lesbian: I AM THRIVING

Luffy: mmm good food

Anyway yeah that's it and ai am soft for Sanji and Buggy becoming friends or at the very least Awkward Friends.

And if anyone has a moment of "weird crush on a friend's relative", it would totes be Sanji and him having a moment of "Oh my seas it's a Stacy's mom deal, but it's luffy's clown mom-aunt-frenemy, fUCK-!!!"

Buggy's just flattered regardless and thinks it's kinda cute, she too had a puppy crush on someone older when she was a kid-

Honestly, Sanji falling for fem!Buggy makes sense because fem!Buggy is just-- She is stunning. Gorgeous. Perfect. The only reason why she isn't transfem canonically is that it would be too much for this world to handle. And of course, Sanji, being the lover of women he is, would absolutely fall for her. Who wouldn't???? Sanji wants to die a little bit after the realization, though. If Luffy and Zoro ever find out, he won't be able to deal with the embarrassment.

AND!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trans Sanji <333 Transfem Sanji??? Genderqueer Sanji??? My favorite is honestly Genderfluid Sanji but the point here is they find out thanks to Buggy and it's the most unexpected thing in the world. Hilarious, even. The whole crew accepts them though because they're all queer. Like there is no way there's someone allo/cis/hetero in that ship.

I agree wholeheartedly btw Sanji is SO the type to fall for a friend's relative. Maybe that's why I love Sabosan,,, And Acesan,,, So much,,,, Mmmm. It just makes sense.

How do you prefer to see Shockwave written, and why?

(I’m especially curious about IDW and TFP.)

Sorry I've had like 3 asks sitting in my askbox for forever now bc school has been kicking my ass 😭😭 but that post came up on my dash again and reminded me to answer this--

BUT UHHHH, so tbh I very strongly see Shockwave as either aroace or demiromantic & demisexual... like. Pretty much all iterations of him, ESPECIALLY IDW and TFP. TF:A is pretty much the only exception to this in which I could see him being closer to just allo... but still somewhere on the demi spectrum... and a loooot of ways I see him written in fanfic makes him very uhh... hmm how do I explain... doting?? Or very Affectionate or... well, all the things people like in a fluff fic.

And yanno that's fine, maybe that's some people's cup of tea but it's not mine. To me, Shocks is very very stoic and dry, even in relationships. I don't even like seeing him in the "stoic person who is soft with their s/o" trope because I just don't think Shockwave is a soft person, in any meaning of the word.

I could see him maybe, like... being slightly less stoic and more introspective and TALKATIVE with someone he likes... and LESS RUDE skdndks and more willing to spend time with them and LISTEN. That's how I prefer to see him written. Someone who is still very quiet and introverted and keeps to himself, even around the people he loves. Like, you know, sometimes he'll have days where he just... needs to be alone and needs you to leave him alone and if you want to be his partner you gotta be okay with that. But he'll also give you more time, speak softer, ramble about the things he's working on, have MORE PATIENCE with you, and... I think he would be more touchy in a very gentle way, like he's studying you.

But outside of that, any kind of gushy or lovey shockwave that says anything even somewhat adjacent to affectionate that isn't something ridiculously stiff like "I find you less miserable to be in company with" just rubs me the wrong way and gives me ick. I think the most affectionate thing I could see him saying is in whump. Like, a moment of desperation that could make him say "I need you", but I think "I love you" is not something he's ever going to be comfortable saying - he shows it, not says it.

TF:A Shockwave is the only one I can make an exception for but it's just because that boy is fucked up. TFA Shockwave is not capable of a healthy relationship SKDSJJDBSKSNS. He's either going to be controlling and possessive in a snakeish and insidious kind of way, or absolute unquestioning devotion. I just don't think TF:A shockwave is... like... as a PERSON capable of being in a healthy relationship unless he went to fucking therapy or had some kind of redemption arc in which case I would place him back in demi territory that is similar to the other descriptions I was talking about earlier.

Writing in GENERAL, without shipping involved? IDW shockwave is fucking insane. He is so so manipulative. He has a million equations and plans going on in his head at all times and he can and will save everyone for better or for worse - and he doesn't care what it takes to get there. That man isn't capable of any emotion except for pursuance of a goal, and maybe anger. Or, if he does feel emotion, it's very very dull and diluted. If he had it restored I think it would destroy him. I read a fic once where Rung accidentally restored his emotions and that one is very very good, I like that shockwave quite a bit.

TF:P Shockwave I think experiences emotions very much, but has a tendency to hide them because he's a very internal person. I don't think he will ever verbally express it, though, unless you REALLY piss him off. For the most part he's very stoic and blunt, and doesn't sugarcoat things... so he will be rude sometimes, but won't go out of his way to be. Some people write him way too cruel and it also rubs me the wrong way... but I also don't like seeing him written too nice either. He's doing his own thing and could really care less about what's going on around him, except for maybe Soundwave who I think he could work well with because of the matching intellect, and Megatron who I think he honestly just works with for the reliable material and the praise (and to piss off Starscream, who annoys him.) I think he can be petty, but doesn't go out of his way to be. I think he values his experiments very much, though, and sabotaging him is a surefire way to get him to try and kill you.

Basically, overall: unless we're talking about TFA Shockwave (who is goofy and cruel), I like a shockwave who is aloof, dry, passionate about what he does to a fault, doesn't talk a lot, respects those of similar intellect, does what he does either for knowledge or to pursue some "greater good", and isn't needlessly cruel. He can show some emotion but not too much, and expresses himself mostly through body language and actions, not words.

Not into it at all for younger characters, but I don't mind for older ones. I haven't read a lot of couples with bigger age gaps but I wouldn't rule out enjoying it in the right context--though I can't see being into it for the sake of the trope itself. (I love you for you, Malcolm Grimm.) Codependency: Interdependency: +7

The template asks about codependency but I finally looked up what codependency means and it's about an uneven relationship where a partner, friend, or family member subsumes their own needs in the course of accommodating / enabling another person's destructive behavior. Is that anyone's jam? There's a reason Rainbow skipped the 12 months between the CO epilogue and the start of WS...

But if we're talking interdependency, then I'm super into it. Octavia Butler was right: "dependency is sexy if it's chosen and not coercive. Symbiosis is a kind of dependency. A dependency of equals is best." Snowbaz symbolizes this with the whole hot/cold body temp thing, which is #sharingabedgoals, and there's lots of great fic in this fandom exploring it, my all-time fave being @fatalfangirl's stunning Bound and Determined.

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +2

Obsession, sure, sign me up. What is Simon at all those football practices if not obsession?

And I can get behind jealousy as a device for revealing the depth of otherwise hidden or even denied feelings. But active, power-and-control-wheel possessiveness? Gross.

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): +5

Yeah! I love watching the grump's walls come down. But with the caveat that the sunshine can't be a one-dimensional, manic pixie dream character, because the that's just boring and I don't care about them.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +5

What snowbaz fan isn't into this? But a key element for me is that there has to be some reason behind the initial enemies dynamic besides one or both of them just being an asshole. Maybe they think that's what's up at first and then learn otherwise, but if their enemy status is based on something real, like they genuinely hate each other based on accurate knowledge about each other, I find it implausible and probably also difficult to like one or both of them.

That's part of why Snowbaz works for me: Baz and Simon's enemy status was imposed on them by a fucked up political system and abusive caretakers. Left to their own devices they'd probably never have been enemies. The reason for their animosity is not the core of who they are.

Friends with benefits: +2

Ehhh is it benefits to full on love? I don't really connect with allo perspectives on sexual relationships, like I get them intellectually but I don't jive with them on an emotional level, so there has to be that emotional draw for me, that underlying romance. I mean tho, @fatalfangirl stacy is writing an excellent fic on this premise right now that I absolutely love because there are clearly feelings involved. But it also might fall more into the realm of the next trope on this list ... which is ...

What Ashton said 😂 also props to fandom for teaching me that I am demisexual, and that this is not a default mode of existence.

It's the fucking BEST. You get to read all the smut and then the climax ISN'T "and then we did it," it's "and then we were emotionally intimate." You get to be horny and a sap.

I also think this trope inherently pushes writers' creativity because the relationship's progression can't follow standard mainstream romance beats. And the sex scenes usually have narrative significance by showing how the relationship is changing, which produces great writing.

Fake dating/relationship: +5

Yes, especially if there's lots of pining along the way! @captain-aralias's Unintended is a great example.

Friends to lovers: +3

I wouldn't say I seek this out specifically but there are so many great fics with this tag. It's fine? I love moving proofs of love and affection outside of romance, but whether it's in something that fits the label "found family" or not is important to me.

Hurt/Comfort: +10

PUT IT DIRECTLY. INTO MY MOUTH. I am a fucking sap for hurt/comfort. It gives me the swoops. There is fucking nothing I like better than lovers (or almost lovers) comforting each other and taking care of each other, emotionally, physically, spiritually, whatever. It's sexy to me. It affects me deeply.

#WhatAshtonSaid. I literally have a WIP going where someone says "who did this to you??" just because I love it so much. I'm pretty sure Nightmares and Excuses was the first fic that made me cry. (It's not hard to do.)

Love Triangle: -8

Not my thing if there's genuine heartbreak / unrequited love floating around. That just bums me out. I get a kick out of the Agatha-Simon-Baz's confusion in CO, but only Penny thinks that's actually a love triangle. I think the only book I've ever loved with a "real" love triangle is Emma and even [SPOILER FOR 208-YEAR-OLD-BOOK] Harriet's not actually in love with Mr. Knightley, she just thinks she is.

Poly, open relationships: -4

Only if it's porn without plot and even then it's pretty rare that I'm into it. I'm not usually interested in sex scenes without a romantic/love element (even if that element is deeply repressed) and am personally very monogamous and have a hard time connecting with poly relationship themes. Which obviously does not mean that poly =/= emotional or romantic connection, not at all, it's just a tough one to wrap my head around.

@skee3000 nailed this for me in Minos, by having Simon and Baz connect with each other even as they have three-way with Mr. Minos, but now I'm conflating a threesome with poly/open relationships. Go read it anyway.

Mistaken/hidden identity: +2

Not sure I can think of a Snowbaz fic that focuses on this, although I'm sure there are some. I do like it when characters meet for the first time and are drawn to each other, only to learn that each other's larger identities make that complicated. And the trust issues that brings up. There are a couple of KJ Charles novels that deal with this really beautifully.

Monsterfucking: +5

I really love when monsterfucking is used as a way to celebrate difference and work through a character's feelings about their own body or its changes. This fandom does a great job with that. Otherwise I'm not drawn to any particular monsters for their monstery sake (but see: Minos's horns).

Pregnancy: -2

+8 for mpreg, -10 for other pregnancy.

I stalled out for two weeks on this post, wondering how to explain this without getting darker and more personal than I'd like. And then realized I don't have to explain 😃.

Second Chance: +7

Love it! I don't always have the heart to read the actual breakup, or falling out, or lost opportunity etc., but I love fics where that has already happened and we're seeing them put themselves back together. Some examples, that may or may not have this tag but definitely have this theme:

And probably countless others I'm forgetting.

Slowburn: +10

Yeah! I know I said I love sex before feelings but I love this too. (And I think they can be successfully combined into slow-feelings-burn.) There's nothing like a satisfying, well-earned payoff. I also admire well-executed slowburns because whenever I write a get-together fic I have to actively resist mashing their faces together in the first 100 words.

Soulmates: -1

In theory I don't love these. The red string, etc. It can just feel played out, and also the emotional logic of it is kind of alienating. I have a hard time putting my head into a world where people have these predestined connections and are trying to find each other because it's just so not how I see relationships. BUT when an author critically and playfully messes with the trope, it can be lots of fun. All This Soulmate Shit by half_witch mashes up a dozen different soulmate tropes to make something that's brilliant, funny, sexy, and feels like they are actively choosing each other rather than obeying destiny. I also adore Bound and Determined by @fatalfangirl for how it plays with the idea of free will and consent, which feel like soulmate-related theme. But it's probably not a coincidence that this fic doesn't have the "soulmates" tag.

Mmm, no? Especially not for younger characters, but like, its not a thing I seek or or actively dislike in general.

Codependency: +5

LOL yes, I'm into fics that explore this. Either in a fun way or in a serious way, because its interesting no matter what. I suppose sometimes if we're talking really toxic codependancy that isnt dealt with it might turn me off in the long run but it definitely will draw my interest in the tags.

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +4

Complicated feelings. I'm kinda into it, so it definitely wont put me off, but jealousy as a trope can either be really fun in a story or really toxic. Like, I'm a little obsessed with Simon's jealousy in the series, because its not the kind where he gets mad at Baz, really, or lashes out at him, its very internal and about his own insecurity, but also really indicative of how very attached he is despite his assertions through wayward son that he was going to end things.

I love a bit of possessiveness as long as its not the kind that hurts their partner or turns really bad to the point of me disliking the character.

So, yeah, in most situations i'm a fan of exploring this, though I can't say I specifically look for it.

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): +8

Yes, definitely. I love this in a romance, its really fun to explore those dynamics. Like, IRL I think really good relationships have people who make up for each other's shortcomings, or balance each other, like if one is really impulsive it helps when the other is level headed or a planner, or else you just get an echo chamber of rash decision making (or, on the other end, no spontaneity!) I like seeing how their differences effect the other. It's a really fun dynamic to read about.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +4

I mean, I'm a snowbaz fan so I gotta right? I do think though that the idea of true enemies to lovers is usually not done it a way that really works for me, because a lot of the time i cant see why these people end up together, because its all anger and hate lust and sometimes it doesn't ever evolve past that, or we just skip the bit where we see them getting along. Ideally theres enemies to friends to lovers, or at the very least friendship within the lovers realm.

I guess what I'm saying is they still need to like each other or else it make me sad.

I am not really opposed. This is just a very romcom trope for me in that it rarely delivers really big honest emotions, its usually a lot of fun contrivance. Which is definitely a good time and has an appeal, but I generally don't take to these stories as much as others. I think its one that really depends on how its written, because I have read some REALLY good ones too.

Friends to lovers: +6

I like this a lot, I think it can have a good amount of tension when done right which is important for me in a story. Plus I love the slow burn of feelings, and also just the depth of emotion and comfort you get from friends to lovers, and sometimes it can be genuinely hard when one of those friends is dating other people, or if theres a really interesting thing keeping them apart. Yeah, I like it.

Found Family: +1

I don't feel a specific way about it, definitely not a turn off. I've read a few really really sweet fics that frame the trio (Baz, Simon and Penny) as found family, which is nice. Generally just fine about it.

I fuckin hate love triangles actually, in all manner of media. Like, it's not a sure thing that it'll put me off a fic on sight, but I seriously can't think of any examples where this trope didn't make me deeply unhappy.

Poly, open relationships: -5

Mmm I'm very monogamous and also have bad history with open relationships so I definitely don't seek this out and it's generally a big turn off for me in a fic. But that being said I am deeply interested in the complexity of managing an open relationship (something sort of touched on in Someone Wicked) and there are definitely some throuples that I can totally get behind. I am allergic to most snowbaz throuples except sid/simon/baz (catch me one day writing some delectable threeway smut for Dre.)

Mistaken/hidden identity: +2

I truly don't know if I've ever read a story with this that like, really drew me in a specific way? I don't think this is a regular snowbaz trope either, and I admittedly don't wander too far from the snowbaz fic these days. I'm not opposed, just don't have a specific affinity for it.

Monsterfucking: +6

I like monsterfucking, but its gotta be tied to emotions. (Those emotions can be overwhelming incoherent ecstasy tho.)

Pregnancy: -9

I want kids and I like kids, don't care to read about them or pregnancy. That being said, I have read nearly every mpreg fic in this fandom (snowbaz) because you all are too talented and too fucking powerful. But it took me a while to click on them, generally.

Second Chance: +8

I do actively seek this tag out, because I am a sadist, but breakup angst also really truly hurts me. As someone who's a well known angstweaver (which I definitely just made up) most angst is appealing to me, delicious to read, exquisite, etc, but breakup angst wounds me deep ya'll. I hate thinking of them not together. I hate thinking of them thinking they are better off not together. I hate IT it makes me cry all of my tears.

But I love the path of recovery and finding their way back to each other. That shit is GREAT.

Slowburn: +10

Yeah baby gimme that pining. I love a slowburn because I love tension, and you get such good fucking tension when it takes a lot of work for them to get together. Also you just see more rounded, complex characterization because they are generally working through feelings and spending time together and just building up that relationship. And I'm a sucker for it, makes the get together all the sweeter. I love all kinds of burns, but slow burn gets me good.

Soulmates: +9

Yes, absolutely yes to soulmate fics. I also love a trope reversal here specifically, because there's a part of me that's also obsessed with the choice over destiny factor and seeing how that comes into play meaningfully, but I will say that the vast majority of Snowbaz soulmate fics have been really fucking good and it's a tag I purposefully seek out.

Scaramouche’s deviation from his original programming is a gradual one, but once it happens he starts to see you in a new light.

The relevant Facebook announcement got shared into a group I happen to be in and as I commented, thanking the person for sharing it seeing as the group wasn’t aro-related at all, I got politely asked to explain how polyamory works for me as an aromantic asexual.

Keep in mind this explanation was targeted for an audience/ readership of allo-allo polyamorous people.

So the first thing I always say is that: disclaimer – obviously I can only talk about my personal perspective and aromantic people are very diverse, asexual people are very diverse

I just happen to be an asexual aromantic, whereas many aromantics are allosexual (meaning any sexual orientation that isn’t asexuality); seeing as this post is explicitly about the intersection of aromanticism and polyamory

I personally want a queerplatonic/ alterous life partner

That’s my personal wish, I want someone to share my life with

I consider myself polyaffectionate, seeing as I’m not “amorous” in any way shape or form

To me this means a few things

1) I practice relationship anarchy – I do not place a romantic relationship on some arbitrary pedestal, every relationship is important to me and that relationship looking like romance doesn’t mean much

For the other things I need to explain about myself first

I am a sex-averse asexual. I have had sex. I didn’t like it. I am generally sex-positive but I don’t necessarily want/ seek sex as part of any committed relationship; rather I’d avoid sex

(This following bit is self-depreciation but) Because of that I think I shouldn’t “tie down” any partner. Someone willing to be with me shouldn’t suffer for it and hence I don’t see a point in being possessive/ demanding sexual faithfulness – although the details would need to depend on the partner(s) and situation

Also due to me not making a grave distinction between “best friend” and “date friend” I just think it’s easier to call myself polyaffectionate since relationships involving me need thorough explanation anyway

I have explored through writing* what I’d like for myself and that basically always ends up that I’d like to be comfortable “sharing” my partner with pre-determined other people

I would only agree to a closed polycule, although I don’t need to be involved with everyone in it

Also I always hoped if I get that, if I get to have a queerplatonic polycule, it could be a found family and support network more than dating in the classical sense

Again, keep in mind all of this is just my personal perspective and I don’t speak for other aromantic people or other asexual people

Many asexuals are fine with/ want sex

Some aromantics are non-partnering/ would only practice solo-poly

My ideal relationship would be having one or two partners I live with, who are my family, who I can cuddle or leave to their own devices, basically a house share and we each cuddle and kiss each other as we please 🙈

—The thing is I’m aware I probably talk like someone who doesn’t value themself enough

Like, if I believed I could be enough for a partner my whole stance would be slightly different

But I have not yet made the experience that what I can offer (a sexless, queerplatonic commitment) is enough for people

I’m fully aware that mindset isn’t healthy but until someone proves I can be enough for them, well… “outsourcing” sex is easier than worrying

And if it’s a genuine relationship I’m happy for them, in any case

I wholeheartedly mean that I’d like a closed polycule and would be comfortable as described

But I also acknowledge that part of it comes from feeling inadequate/ not wanting to hold back the person(s) I love

I just know I can’t provide what – to many people – is a need

And since I know I can love more than one person at the same time I think getting to be with someone who also has other partners is my best chance… if that makes sense

◻️ Ryuken keeps a more aloof and distant behavior from most people and his darling is absolutely no exception to this. He's frostily polite and that's it. It is due to this constant enstranged attitude of his that you never realize his growing feelings, quite a stark contrast to the Quincy himself. Ryuken senses whatever is starting to form inside of him at a very early state and forbids himself to see you in order to stop before the situation slips out of his grip. The difference in behavior is hard to recognize, Ryuken keeps to himself most of the time anyways. The Quincy would like to pride himself in his ability to focus on the task in front of him yet hearing your name being mentioned is enough to break his concentration for a short while as he can't help the slight impulse to eavesdrop. In especially weak moments he's caught himself staring at you. He's a work-oriented individual yet he finds that his s/o becomes a extreme distraction.

◻️ He spends a lot of time thinking about how to handle this situation as it eventually dawns on him that ignoring you and avoiding you won't do any good anymore. He's already too deep in. There is a sense of disappointment from his side as Ryuken can't help but feel let down that he couldn't get a grip on his own emotions. His wife Katagiri has died years ago and there is a initial feeling of hesitation since he still has a sense of loyalty. Countless days and nights are spent thinking about the pros and cons before it becomes a bit too much for him with his dwelling obsession and he decides to give in to his darker side. Ryuken is possessive over you as he has already lost his first wife together with the lingering thought that you are the catalyst for his obsession so it's safer keeping you close to him. He's meticulous and obsessive, remembers everything he perceives from your body language to your expressions and not afraid to manipulate and reprimand you for something that goes against his strict set of rules.

◻️ Jealousy is too much of a bother for Ryuken and he definitely refuses to be petty like this. Most certainly there are problems if his darling shouldn't be his partner at that time yet he absolutely won't interfere. He throws occasional glares as a hint of disdain is written on his face yet he turns away if anyone should look at him. If his darling should work for the Karakura Hospital he has an advantage as the Director, especially if whoever spends time with you also works for him. In this case he simply uses his influence a bit, makes sure to separate you two nearly all of the time with different tasks and is much more willing to chide and rebuke every small mistake he notices in them which is sure to put them in a bad mood. He wouldn't go so far as to fire the person since he needs his staff but life definitely becomes harder for them and you alike. In a relationship he won't get jealous simply because he expects you and others alike to not flirt with someone who is taken.

◻️ It's not a topic worth thinking about too much for Ryuken, maybe because he'd like to not admit how far he might be willing to go. Sure, Hollows are no problems and even if he despises his title as a Quincy, he is more willing to use his power and skills if it is to protect his darling, he is oddly protective at times albeit every bit as strict. Humans are different though even if Ryuken knows that there are scumbags even under them. Keeping a cool head is the key though even if his tone is cold and his words and the look in his eyes are almost sort of condescending. It is quite a simple system with him, he wants everyone away he sees as danger for his s/o and allowing them to still spend time with his s/o is rare to nonexistent, even if his darling wants it. Underestimating him will be a mistake.

◻️ He's so insanely controlling and strict even before he somehow convinces you into a relationship but this all becomes tremendously worse as time passes by. He wants his s/o to work since he surely won't coddle them and let them rest, they should be able to earn their own money too. Despite that he forces his own schedule on you, it's especially bad if you really work in his hospital. In that case the time where you wake up, the food you consume during the day and the time where you head home are supervised by him. If you have other plans, he wants to be informed beforehand and not on a too short notice since otherwise he'll be annoyed. If you try to break up with him, he'll end up belittling you a bit but weirdly enough he'll let you leave if you remain stubborn. You have a gut feeling that he has something planned though and you're damn right with that.

◻️ Ryuken doesn't want his darling being too much of a lazy person so he sometimes even pushes them to work since he expects at least a bit from s/o. The only times when he will be willing to allow you to rest is if you're sick or injured in which case you will end up being scolded if he catches you working. You might infect others or simply only put unnecessary strain on your body which might only worsen your condition. In this case he ushers you to take time off until you're fit again which are a few moments where his more protective side shines through. I'd wager that his son realizes that his father is at one point obsessed and even calls him out for it which ends in Ryuken denying his son's words whilst simultanously warning him to stay out of this. The relationship between those two is frozen as it is, good chances are that you end up trying to restore the father-son-bond somehow.

Age gap: -3

It really depends on the age gap, but some of the larger age gaps do kind of put me off. I'll still read the fic if there are other elements that really intrigue me, but I'll probably try to pretend that there isn't a two decade gap between the two (usually) lovers. That said, there are odd exceptions, like when supernatural stuff gets involved - longevity, immortality, etc. However, even in those cases I really need to see a reason why someone with so much life experience would go for someone of a less than mature age. It's doable, but it takes effort. (Vampires are why this is a -3 and not a -8 or something, won't lie.)

Codependency: 0

I'M NOT SURE. IT DEPENDS. *agonized* Okay, not really agonized. There are a lot of codependent relationships that somehow just work in fiction. Some that are even magically healthy lol. But I feel like "Codependency" could be a warning as much as it could be an asset, so it really does depend on how it's treated within the fic for me. That said, there are my ships that are totally codependent, and I refuse to be parted from them XD

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +7

Om nom nom. As with all things, there can be too much of a good thing, and one must recognize that nummy possessivness in fic does not translate necessarily to possessiveness in real life. But honestly, that's true of like all of these LOL I love a (nontoxic) possessive protag. Show me a guy who twitches when someone else eyes his significant other, and then show me that same guy reminding said significant other why he is the one for them in a sweet, sexy way. Ahem. I think beyond jealousy, though, I appreciate how "possessive" can also translate to "protective." Again, see the disclaimer that this isn't real life. In fic, I love it when two people are protective of each other in their unique ways. So basically, I don't like jealousy or possessiveness for the sake of simply having a jealous tantrum. It has to be built into the character, with reasons and depth and all that good stuff. But when that happens? Gimme. (See Snowbaz)

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine, etc): +10

You'd have to work pretty hard to get me to not enjoy this one. It's such a powerful dynamic that one can do so much with.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +9

Enemies to Lovers is my candy. Especially when combined with the above trope. And maybe the one before that, too. Enemies with benefits can be really fun too, but I'm not really into chemistry-only scenarios (I just don't get it) so I like seeing them catch feelings along the way. By accident. Oops. XD

Friends with benefits: -8

Ummm. Well. Again, I don't really understand the allo chemistry angle, so I usually have to connect with characters on an emotional level to get anything out of any story (romantic or not). I love a well written friendship and I value those relationships highly, but it feels awkward to me for them to get busy. >.> If the friendship grows into something more romantic to complement the physical intimacy, then that works for me.

Sex to feelings: +5

So long as the feelings don't drop in at the end like a deus ex romantica, this is a trope that can be excellent to explore. (Caveat though: I generally don't go for stories that begin with casual hook-ups. I need a more personal and/or solid premise than dumb luck at a dumb bar. Ahem. I may have opinions about the prevalience of that premise in the romance genre.) Character growth through sex can be absolutely beautiful, and I'm usually game to give any fic with this theme a try at least. I love a sexy slow burn, too, where the sexual tension is positively sparking, and all their carefully built emotional defenses are slowly peeled away like so much silk and satin and-- Yeah that. Also. Everyone already knows this, but just in case go read Someone Wicked by @artsyunderstudy for the best possible example of this trope EVAH.

Fake dating/relationship: +10

Why is this so awesome? WHY IS THIS THE BEST? But it is the best. It's just the best. (And actually I could write an essay on why it's the best probably because I think too hard about these things, but you don't really need me to, right?)

Friends to lovers: +2

Okay, had to think about this one. I'm not sure what counts as strictly friends to lovers, tbh. I love angst and pining and hopelessly-in-love-with-him situations. (Of course I do.) So if this includes that, with either one or both of the characters holding back because they don't want to lose what they already have with their friend and OMG THE ANGST then hell yeah, bring it on. But I've also read one too many "and then they fell into bed" situations (where it's just lazy writing, not the good kind), which knocks my rating down a bit. Oh, but I also like how friends to lovers can build over a slow burn fic, where the foundation for a truly awesome relationship starts with something platonic. (Also love a good QPP, though the tension has a completely different tone, and usually is explored in a different way than with romantic stuffs. But yeah, show me two people discovering their bestie for life while defending the kingdom from dragon AI or something.)

Found Family: TOP BILLING

This is the dream. I will never EVER get tired of seeing characters find their families, no matter the shape, size, form, whatever. Show me the power of love comes in so many forms and show me the healing. Show me protagonists finding HOME and I will fucking cry my eyes out every time and love them eternally. Pretty much all my favorite stories, throughout my entire life, have at least some element of this in play.

Hurt/Comfort: Um.... 0?

I had to ask an expert in the field about this one because I legit didn't know what it meant. (la la fanfic newbie la la) Now that I know what it means, I'm sorta like... well. Yeah? I mean. Yeah? Cause I wouldn't much care for hurt/hurt and comfort/comfort is really only fluff, right? IDK maybe I still don't understand it. But I see this tag everywhere, so it's sort of non-impact thing for me. So here's what I like: ANGST WITH A HAPPY ENDING. Give me the PAAAAIIIIN. And then give me RELIEF when it stops and the good picks up as a reward for all that painful growth. TORTURE MY HEART but then kiss it and make it better at the end. XD If it's that, then fuck yeah +10.

Love Triangle: -8

I used to be into these when they were all over the YA market in the aughts. (I was Team Edward but only because Bella was obviously stupid for him.) Now though, I find them kind of annoying unless they're handled with crazy good clever care. (Seriously though, I've read some really bad ones, bordering on offensive, lately. So I'm not optimistic.) I want a happy ending for the characters I care about, though. That's really hard to do in a love triangle.

Poly, open relationships: +3

I'm monogomous by nature, so that's where my interest tends to lean when looking at romantic set-ups. That said, I've recently read some very sexy reverse harem books that gave the characters some solid emotional connections. So I'm open to it, and will usually take a peek at a fic with this tag. But I really need to be able to believe that the poly set-up is truly best for everyone involved and not something someone is settling for just so they can be with that One Person They Actually Want.

Mistaken/hidden identity: +10

Yeeeeesssss. There is something so delicious about not knowing the exact identity of the person you're falling for. Mystery lover can be extremely sexy, but then it doesn't have to just be a chemistry thing, either. I love the search for the unknown person that inevitably follows, and the mystery solving necessary. Sometimes the scavenger hunt LOL Unexpected usages of this trope get ALL my attention. It's one that pretty much requires a unique premise, so I'm all for it whenever I see it.

Monsterfucking: +10

The hardest ones to love are the ones who need it the most! Also. Cool accessories like wings and horns and fangs and what-have-you. Abso-fucking-lutely.

Pregnancy: Uh. What? 0? Or... -5 mpreg?

Not sure I've actually seen this outside of mpreg (which is usually not my jam). There are exceptions, though, but I'm very picky when it comes to mpreg. As for straight up regular biologically female pregnancy? Uh. I guess? It can be romantic in a way if it builds the relationship and they're taken care of and everything. But I don't think I'd pay special attention to it. (I've written fic where there was a pregnant woman in the story, and there were romantic moments with her husband, but it wasn't the central storyline.)

Second Chance: -10, unless it's Snowbaz

Simon and Baz make it work because the good outweighs the bad. But outside of that, it's a big turn-off for me. I got really burned out on this in the romance genre in novels. Some girl would move back home and run into the farm boy she left behind cause he broke her heart blah blah blah. It got TIRED after awhile. Also, why did they break up? Is that just... not an issue anymore? The only example of this working outside of Snowbaz for me is the movie Sweet Home Alabama. Cause he worked for it.

Slowburn: +9

As if you didn't know already by now LOL I'm almost always here for it. It's also one of my favorite tropes to write. I'm willing to wait for it. I'm willing to watch the simmer in anticipation of the moment it all boils over. Give them time to build something in addition to the chemistry, give them more than just a flash in the pan. (Good gravy the food metaphors here are plentiful.) Don't drag it out unnecessarily, but if there's character growth, REASONS for it, then I will take that journey. But if there isn't a payoff at the end, Imma be mad XD

Soulmates: +5

Okay, look. I just. I just like fated mates, okay? Ahem. I love a good fated mates story. (The best one I read was one where they met, realized they were fated, and then had to awkwardly get to know each other and come to terms with the fact that the universe just decided for them... but also... he's pretty great, must admit... XD) Outside of the "Fated Mates" subcategory, it gets a little less definite. I take other types of soulmate tropes on a case by case basis. I don't like it when it's used as a crutch to get people together (even in fated mates, there's gotta be a process and a reason and all that), but when it's done well it can pack a really powerful punch. It can also break my heart. So I handle with care.

i literally just got to this part last night and could not believe what i was reading, like?? WHAT? okay is this a good time to go off on my annual rant about how much i hate jealousy and possessiveness being played as something cute and romantic in media, bc i really hate how much jealousy and possessiveness get played as being cute and romantic in media.

it might be because i'm aspec and i have less of a tolerance for this sort of thing, but even i know several Very allo people who hate it too. so like? back to being confused. i hate it so much. jealousy isn't cute. it's a human emotion, sure, and there's nothing wrong with feeling it, but letting it affect your relationships is not cute. i'm sorry. i don't find it charming. this is why i find atmospherics to be a very notable Flaw Card. artem's behavior wasn't cute OR sexy!!! sorry!! he was being a dick and deserved to get yelled at!

i find possessiveness to be infinitely worse. anyone in a romantic relationship with someone possessive needs to get the fuck out. i'm very much of the opinion that a relationship being romantic doesn't make it superior to platonic or familial ones, so possessiveness being played as cute and romantic drives me up the WALL!!

and this is about other human beings - let alone a CAT? A CAT AT A CAT CAFE??? WHAT? this is something that has always bothered me about tears of themis and otomes in general, but like. yeah. it's been getting worse. i try to ignore it as hard as i can but man. i do not get it. artem deserved to enjoy his cat cafe : ( and miss rosa deserved better writing!

Jotakak. Ladies and gentlemen, JOTAKAK. I love this pair so, so so much it’s a borderline obsession. These headcanons are going to be very influenced about my HCs for the characters’ personalities as well as sexualities (bcs even though Part 3 is my favourite part I can agree that it’s characters aren’t very fleshed-out).

This ask kind of escaped my control, I'm sorry it took so long to answer but balancing my first full-time job was very tricky! I'm not sure it's exactly what you expected because I explored how they got together and how they feel for each other more than misc headcanons, but I think it's still enjoyable :)

Note that I headcanon Jotaro as aroace, hence Jotakak is more of a queerplatonic relationship than a romance. Being allo myself, I don’t have any hindsight from the aroace experience and did my best to accurately portray an aroace person in a relationship. Please do tell if you have any comments or remarks about my portrayal of aroace people so I can do better!

Noriaki Kakyoin in Jotakak HC:

-So I hc Kakyoin as gay, so even in his fleshbud-possessed brain, he wanted to be an extra bitch to impress the local tall dark and handsome upon their first meeting.

-Like he had set up a whole scene, standing mysteriously on top of the stairs with his scarf flowing in the wind, you can’t tell me he didn’t want to swoon Jotaro right off his feet.

-(And that he did lmao)

-Kakyoin has some relationship experience, so he realizes pretty quickly that he has a crush on the other teen. He would be more attracted to Jotaro’s personality and traits than his body, although he can’t deny that he finds him very attractive.

-The redhead is a man of honor, hence he would only respect someone of the same caliber as he. In the beginning, he looked down upon the other man for his attitude, but quickly warmed up to him and truly started to value him after he proved time and time again how far he was willing to go for those he loved.

-Kakyoin truly realized his crush on Jotaro after the battling the Lovers:

“As they reunited after Jotaro defeated Steely Dan, Kaykoin allowed his eyes to graze the other man’s form. Jotaro was covered in cuts and bruises, blood trailing down his lips and brow, melting into his opal eyes. His breath hitched as he noticed the shoe imprints in his back. Just how much had he swallowed up for the sake of his grandfather? As Joseph fretted over his grandson, Kakyoin took in the teen’s ever-so determined aura. Even beat up and humiliated, his look retained an undying sense of determination and duty.

Jotaro had wordlessly trust him and his stand to keep The Lovers from hurting him and anyone else as it flew back to Steely Dan, relied entirely on Kakyoin’s ability to defeat the stand and save his grandfather as he was himself getting beat up and ridiculed in public. This realization filled the teen with a deep sense of respect for the other man, and even more so of admiration.

That day, Kakyoin knew his feelings for Jotaro were no longer those of a friend.”

-After realizing his feelings, he would try to be cool about it and stay the same. Keyword “try”.

-He’s so fucking stupid omg

-He would try to be coolTM all the time to impress. Kakyoin would be the type to infodump about literally anything and be like “Haha Jotaro did you know that sea snakes like Hydrophis cyanocinctus can breathe through their skin”.

-That’s his way of flirting btw.

-Sooooo akward and stupid about it. His cool guy persona does NOT work he is a certified nerd and would absolutely stop breathing when his eyes lock with his crush’s.

-If Jotaro shows the slightest bit of interest in what Kakyoin is saying he’ll talk his ear off with fun facts and videogame lore.

-Would probably make the first move. Kakyoin is a very thorough individual, and feelings are no different. This man made up at least 26 scenarios and planned a different speech for each and every one.

-It definitely keeps him awake at night.

-His love language would be words of affirmation, acts of service and quality time. Every night during their journey the two would meet in each other’s rooms and chill.

“What are you reading Jotaro?

-Marine Life magazine, he muttered, nose deep between the pages.

-Cool,” replied Kakyoin in a soft tone.” Tell me about it?”

Jotaro stayed silent for a few seconds before flipping all the way back to page 3. He cleared his throat and started reading:

“Sea stars belong to the phylum Echinodermata. That means they are related to sand dollars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and sea lilies. Overall, this phylum contains approximately 7,000 species”… Did you know that starfish have more than one stomach?

-I didn’t.” Kakyoin rested his hand on his chin, eyes locked on the other man with a dreamy, love-struck look “Keep going.”

Jotaro Kujo in Jotakak HCs:

-So keep in mind that to me Jotaro is an aroace KING so the feelings he harbors for Noriaki are not romantic. Which doesn’t mean this man wouldn’t die for him in a heartbeat.

-At first he didn’t think much of the redhead; although the more they traveled together, the closer they got. After all, it is nice to have someone else his age around during this whole mess.

-Jotaro was in a relationship exactly once (1) in middle school, to cross that item off his bucket list. Even then, he didn’t feel any of the so-called butterflies and giddiness. Must have not been the right girl.

-Aromanticism wasn’t spoken of very much in the 1980’s, especially in Japan, so all his life Jotaro thought that he hadn’t met the “right person” yet. Looking at fellow classmates, he failed to find a single one to his taste during his fourteen years of attending school.

-Holly joked around with her husband that their son was a very picky young man, and the teen ended up using that to justify why he never felt romantic love.

-Jotaro realized something was “wrong” with him when the topic of sexuality came into the picture in high school. Teen boys were passing around lewd magazines and sharing stories of their first times, all while the young man remained puzzled on what was so interesting about a pair of tits. Or a penis for that matter. Sure, men and women were beautiful to look at, but that was it.

-When he understood that everyone else was serious about all they were saying, he started to question himself and think something was wrong with him. Why can’t he be in love? Is his brain fucked up? Is he doomed to be alone forever and push everyone away?

-As he and other grew up, he found himself less and less in his friends and started to grow apart from them. He didn’t feel understood anymore.

-That changed when he met Kakyoin. Kakyoin who didn’t judge, Kakyoin who wouldn’t brag about girls and put him on the line for having no experience, Kakyoing who seemed to be a never-ending pit of random knowledge, Kakyoin who listened.

-Although the Joestar didn’t think much of him at first, he quickly started to appreciate him, slowly breaking his tough-cool-guy shell to expose the teenager underneath.

-He and Noriaki connect like he never did with anyone else. They fight over who knows more about a specific species of starfish (Jotaro does), they play video games whenever they can (Kakyoin always wins), and they have the dumbest inside jokes that makes Joseph and Avdol groan every single time.

-They grow so very close Jotaro starts to believe that maybe this is what love is. The warmth he feels for Noriaki, a warmth that he only ever felt for family, must be love. It has to be right?

-And so the young man indulges in fantasies. Fantasies in which they never kiss, they’re just…together. Kakyoin smiles and he loves him, and Jotaro loves him back and he’s not alone anymore.

-He would never, ever, make the first move; too scared to break their bond. Plus, it’s not like he wants more than they already have.

-Jotaro would just like to be held sometimes. Maybe have his hair played with. He’d like to fall asleep and wake up in Noriaki’s embrace, and give him a peck on the forehead. He’d like his friend to tease him about taking up all the space in bed. And friend’s can’t do that, right?

-Overall he’s just lost and very confused. Also very very awkward about touch. This man craves a hug good good-

Jotakak pair HCS:

-Their confession was messy. It all happened so fast and it wasn’t how either of them imagined to be, planned it to be. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

“The three of them stood on the outer wall of Dio’s fortress, the setting sun casting the building in dark shadow. Soon, it will all be over. With Avdol and Iggy left to die in the manor and Polnareff having run to chase the vampire himself, the plan Jotaro came up with was more than hasty.

As they settled on him joining Polnareff and Kakyoin tagging along with Joseph to catch Dio from behind, they could all feel that none of them would come out of this the same as before. If they even could survive this.

The thought plagued Noriaki. Not knowing if he would live to see another day, he had tried this morning to finally confess to his friend but his tongue betrayed him. This was his last opportunity. If he should die, he would knowing that he had been true to his love for the man.

“A moment.” He asked Joseph, not waiting for an answer to turn on his heel and rush towards Jotaro, grabbing him by the hem of his sleeve.

“Jotaro”, he said in a breath” There is something that you must know, before we part”.

The younger Joestar turned around meeting the other man eye to eye, mouth agape, as if he was about to say something.

“I’m in love with you.”

For a moment, nothing was said. Jotaro kept opening and closing his mouth looking for a word, any word, anything better than this crushing silence. He had to say something, he couldn’t stay silent while Noriaki was here and he loved him and he looked so, so terribly sad-

“It’s ok, said the redhead ”You don’t have to say anything. I understand that it’s- it’s a lot.” He gulped “See you there Jotaro”.

And with that, Kakyoin jumped off the building to join Joseph, leaving Jotaro on the roof, still fumbling for his words. His meager “Wait” was lost in the wind before it could reach Kakyoin’s ears.

They truly met again months later, when Kakyoin opened his eyes for the first time after surviving grueling surgeries.

To Jotaro, that time when Noriaki briefly looked at him in a daze while he held his hand as he was rushing him towards the Speedwagon foundation’s helicopter, holding half of his guts in his hands, didn’t count as meeting again.

The second the teen learnt that his best friend was awake, he was out of his hospital bed and running through the corridors, a trail of nurses behind him and IV still half-stabbed in his arm. Bursting into the room, he almost collapsed at Kakyoin’s side, muttering excuses and “I love you”s over and over. The redhead only offered him a half-smile before closing his eyes again.

It would be two weeks before Jotaro could gaze in these emerald eyes again.”

-Once Kakyoin started getting better and Jotaro was no longer banned from his room (after trying to break in multiple times), the two would not leave each others’ side. More precisely, Jotaro would guard his lover’s bed with his life while the other teen faded in and out of consciousness.

-They never talked about their relationship while in the hospital. Such topic felt too.. sacred, to be tackled in a hospital room. But they allowed the change to happen, bit by bit.

-They always touched each other, in one way or another. A hand on a hand. A leg brushing against an arm. They were each other’s lifeline, their mutual contact grounding them in the moment and keeping the memories at bay.

-After Kakyoin was transferred to a clinic to fully heal, Jotaro had the habit of sneaking trinkets, food and books in his room; both enjoying the malicious pleasure of driving nurses and the redhead’s parents crazy.

-When Noriaki was finally released from the clinic, the two could finally fully find each other again. Obviously their activities were limited, with Kakyoin now permanently disabled and with fragile brand new organs, but they made it work. It’s not like they both enjoyed hiking or public dates anyways.

-The topic of their relationship was still difficult to branch, especially to Jotaro. They never went further than holding hands and hugging, but the Joestar could tell that the other teen wanted more than that. And he wasn’t sure that he could be the one to give him what he deserved anymore.

-To be honest, Jotaro is absolutely crushed with guilt after Egypt. Even though his partner survived, the nightmares plague him every night, and he can’t look at Kakyoin without feeling as if his heart was being stopped all over again.

-To him, his friend deserves more than this. More than whatever he can give. Because, well, Jotaro might love Kakyoin, but he isn’t in love with him. He’s never been in love with anyone, and really, he’s not sure he’s able to.

-Slowly, Jotaro begins to distance himself from his partner. He calls less. He comes over less. And it crushes them both, because Jotaro wants to give Noriaki the world and Noriaki only wants Jotaro to be with him.

-It gets ugly. It gets bad. Because Kakyoin bottles up all of his emotions and Jotaro thinks this is what is best.

-Finally, what had to happen happened. They fought. And they broke down.

-Noriaki screamed until his voice went raw that he only wanted Jotaro to stay, that after Egypt, he thought that they would fight the entire world together if they had to but they would be together. He screams that he feels lonely, he feels abandoned, he feels as if he’s 10 again because he’s betrayed by the one he loves and it hurts so much. He screams that he knows he’s broken, that he’s crippled and useless but that he thought that they would get over this as a couple; he screams that he loves Jotaro but he knows he doesn’t love him back and he justs wants to be done, he just wants everything to be over because if there isn’t Jotaro that what even is left for him? And he screams and he screams because he just wants Jotaro to fucking SAY SOMETHING and LOOK AT HIM-

-And Jotaro takes it in. He takes the punches, he takes the tears and the screams and the harsh words.

-And Jotaro crumbles.

-Because he’s just so, so guilty. He just wants what’s best for the most important person in his life and he fucked up. Again.

-He falls on his knees and he cries. And Kakyoin just looks at him from his wheelchair and says nothing, eyes red and throat raw.

-Jotaro cries and says that he’s sorry. That he loves him so much but that he can’t love him, that he tries so hard but he can’t give Noriaki what he needs and that he deserves better than a broken man.

-Once the dam is opened, there’s no closing it. And the words flow out of Jotaro’s mouth and he can’t stop them.

-He tells his lover everything he never said before. How he always felt different. How he’s never been in love, how he’s never been interested in sex, how he thought what he felt for Kakyoin was love because it was the only justification for such an intense feeling. How he never wants to leave his side, how he wants to be his but he can’t and-

-Kakyoin bends down from his wheelchair and hugs him.

-He’s not sorry, he said. About what he said. About being mad, because he’s still absolutely furious at Jotaro for doing what he did. But he understands and never in a million years would he throw what they have away because the other teen doesn’t, can’t return his feelings. He loves him, and even if they wont’ be able to be a typical couple, they can still make things work.

“Jotaro looked at Kakyoin with teary eyes, trying to still the shaking in his shoulders and the tremors of his voice. His knees rasped against the hard wooden floor and hurt from the fall, but it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered except Noriaki, who looked at him with understanding and with so much love it made him feel like he could conquer the world.

“Do you- do you still want me then?” he choked out in a hesitant, low voice.

“Always”.”

-After things calmed down, they had a serious talk about what they felt for each other and what they wanted. It was as clumsy as two teenagers could get, but in the end they both got their point across.

-So much changed after that. It felt as if both of them been freed from an immense weight and could be themselves again, all of their barriers having been torn down. The two were even more comfortable around the other, although they both retained their natural level of awkwardness.

-Today, you could call their relationship a QPR (queerplatonic relationship). Back then, not having words to put on their relationship, they just called it a partnership of some sorts.

-Expect a loooot of casual touching and hugs from now on. These two seem superglued to the other everywhere they go.

-Jotaro being draped over a drowsy Kakyoin on the couch was a common sight at the Joestar estate.

-Acts of service. So. Many. Acts. Of. Service. It’s almost a competition at this point. Basically “Let me get it for you” “No let ME get it for you”.

-The sentient stands make it ten times worse. You WILL have Star Platinum floating away to get tea and Hierophant Green unwinding itself to fetch a book. Holly learnt to ignore the floating objects for her own sanity.

-Would kill for one another (I mean they already did so-). If anyone dares give any shit to Noriaki about his disability they're going to get a taste of Star Platinum's fist. If Hierophant didn't beat him to it anyways.

-Works both ways btw. When they go back to high school, Jotaro's fangirls try to swarm him again but you bet Kakyoin is burning them down with a stare and getting the both of them away as fast as his wheelchair allows him to. If looks could kill...

-They’re so stupid together. Insane chaos energy. Kakyoin literally has the worst sense of humor and is absolutely THRIVING with Jotaro, king of practical jokes. No one is safe except Holly. Especially not Polnareff.

-Kakyoin basically lives at the Joestar estate now. He wants to get away from his parents whom he has a tense relationship with still, and with the rate at which he comes over he always has clothes and trinkets littering Jotaro’s room.

-Even though Holly always offers a guest room, they bunk together. Absolutely no exceptions.

(Jotaro finally got his head scratches and hugs thank god)

-They talk endlessly. They tell each other everything, from their deepest and darkest worries to the colour of their socks. Jotaro opens up on his resentment towards his absent father while Kakyoin tries to share how his relationship with his family became so difficult, and how having a stand whilst being queer made him feel like he was alone against the world.

-Whenever Kakyoin sleeps over, the both of them tend to sleep better. Less nightmares.

-And when one of them jolts awake, a scream dying in their throat, the sight of their loved one laying peacefully next to them always soothes their worries.

-When the nightmares get too intense and the other wakes up, they will gently coax their partner through it, holding them in their arms and murmuring sweet nothings in their ear as tears flow freely.

-Kakyoin is a very guarded man, but Jotaro is the only one he feels safe enough with to express his emotions and his fears. Even then, him breaking down after a nightmare is a very rare occurrence. He prefers to keep to himself and hide away weaknesses like this. Suffice to say, when it does happen, it’s not easy on the both of them.

-Jotaro has the most nightmares. In the first year after Egypt, getting a good night of sleep was almost impossible for the teen. In the darkness behind his eyelids, he would always see the glimmer of red eyes and sharp teeth, and blood, oh god so much blood-

-Having Noriaki around helped. His partner was the one to drag his sorry ass to bed most of the times anyways.

-They help each other with homework as a form of bonding. Kakyoin is more into mathematics and literature than biology and physical science, so they cancel each other out. The only subject both of them are absolutely helpless at is…Japanese….

-They both think all of the literary rules are stupid for different reasons, but they agree on that.

-They don’t voice their affection for each other a lot, both of them preferring actions to words. But they do say “I love you” from time to time as reassurance.

-Jotaro helps Noriaki with his physical therapy and such. It keeps the redhead going, even when hi muscles are sore and his legs feel like puddy. He wants to walk next to his partner again.

-The taller teen somehow becomes Kakyoin’s doctor's best frienemy. Best friend because he always keeps him on his medication and pushes him through his exercises; worst enemy because he has the tendency to arbitrarily kidnap his friend out of checkups.

-When Noriaki was being difficult, Jotaro always knew how to rile him up:

“Come on Kakyoin, you just need to try and stretch your legs and we’ll be done for today”, said a nurse in a sweet but harsh tone. She had been trying to make her patient stretch after his session for a good twenty minutes and she was getting nothing out of him. Even with the patience of a saint, she was itching to give the teen a piece of her mind.

“Hm. Cmon’ Nori, let’s go home. I can see you don’t have it in you.

-EXCUSE ME?!,” spit the younger teen, a newfound fire in his eyes, “Shut up and fucking watch me Kujo”.

-Mutual infodumping. Their relationship is literally autism x autism. WILL take turns talking about their special interests.

-Jotaro would take Noriaki to the oceanographic museum while the redhead shows his partner around the observatory and planetarium. (Kakyoin is a space nerd to me sorry I’m projecting-)

-When they get older and the topic of college gets broached, Kakyoin is the one to push Jotaro to study abroad. And well, if he just happens to secure a full scholarship at Florida University’s department of Astronomy, a famous real-estate millionaire says it’s just a coincidence.

-They live together at university. Contrary to popular belief, Jotaro is the organized one. Kakyoin leaves a mess everywhere he goes. His mugs are literally everywhere (and he’ll be damned if he picks them up himself).

-They both take up work at the SPW Foundation, Kakyoin being confined to the support lines due to his injuries. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t try to sneak out and assist Jotaro on terrain or anything.

-In the end, both obtain their PHD with flying colors. Jotaro becomes a renewed marine biologist while Kakyoin devotes himself to research and teaching.

-The other crusaders learn of their relationship pretty quickly. Muhammad is very understanding, being demiromantic himself; while Polnareff and Joseph struggle a bit more with the concept. They're both trying really hard though.

"So, uh, when's the wedding guys?, said Polnareff in a joking manner

-There won't be a wedding you absolute waste of a bowel movement-"

-After many years at each other’s side, they relationship is the strongest it’s been. And even though it’s not your typical love story, they both wouldn’t have it any other way.

-And well, if they do decide to expand their little family…time will tell.

I mean seriously can you imagine the chaos? Raising a kid with your bestie? Everyone should brace themselves because little Jolyne and daddy Nori are about to be their worst nightmare.

There's a certain pattern to how explaining my orientation (polyam a arospec) to monogamous allos goes. At first they think that polyamory doesn't work and I love people less, then when I explain how I'd like to base a relationship on mutual respect, affection and trust and the needs and boundaries of the people involved rather than artificially made rules, and how I'd never want to keep my partner(s) away from people and connections that enrich their life and act like I have a claim on them (and it'd honestly be a relief if I'm not the only one there to meet someone's romantic needs), they so a 180 and say that I'm more selfless and somehow MORE romantic ...

It makes me uncomfortable because no, I'm not, I'm loving but not very romantic. And I don't get it. It seems like they change their own definition of the word 'romantic' whenever it suits them, just to be able to call everyone romantic. Your feelings for someone are possessive and selfish? How romantic. Love is selfish. You want someone to yourself? How romantic. You want someone to be loved and have many loving connections (if they want that)? How romantic. You want someone to just be happy? How romantic. You care deeply about someone? Romantic. It's especially prevalent when they know you're not very romantic.

I've seen romance used synonymously with love, affection, attraction, any intense, important or close relationship, caring about another person's needs rather than only your own selfish wants and even just basic respect.

And then being told I'm selfless and even more romantic for the way I view and approach relationships actually makes me worry for the monoallos... Like, my approach just feels like basic respect. Are you guys okay? Do you enter relationships without discussing your needs and boundaries? Is romance actually just a script people compulsively follow because they feel like they have to? Do you even know your true needs and boundaries or do you just state the same ones everyone is "supposed" to have?

Honestly dating seems more and more unhealthy the more I find out about it ...

Ranking the placements of kisses bc I'm ace and therefore I must be the expert in this, there's no way I'm not:

Kisses on the cheek: it's cute but mostly used if it's children or old married couples. Other ages could probably stand to use this more I don't mind it too much. very domestic and sweet 8/10

Kisses on the back of the hand/knuckles: this is some "oh, mr. Darcy. How forward of you." bullshit. Can be made really weird really easily. probably best left for knights trying to woo a maiden 4.5/10

Kisses on the lips: Some people think this means everything thing, others argue it's nothing at all. All the questions about the meaning of the kiss makes it too complicated to worry about. Its honestly overrated at this point. 4/10

Kisses on the neck: gross. What are you, a vampire? Quit trying to find my jugular and mark my skin. Possessive and awkward 2/10

Kisses on the shoulder: depends on the context. If after kissing the neck, then it's weird too. 2/10 If during a long hug as an extra bit of affection, then it's much nicer, but please get back to the hug 5.5/10

Kisses on the leg: meh. I really have no opinions on this. I'm confused how someone would be in that situation, but allos are confusing in general. 5/10

Kisses on the feet: ........ 1/10

Kisses on the arm: a bit awkward and if it wasn't for Gomez and Morticia Addams, this would be a much worse rating. You're lucky the Addams are on your side. 9/10

People will go way beyond normal and sane when you start with a premise where they are already halfway to crazytown. When the fire hits the powder keg its gonna be good.

This one can have similar feels to be previous, where emotions start out high but this time its possibly one sided. Is the other side prey being hunted, a glorified god caged on a pedestal, or a shrieking wildcat biting itself and anything around it to escape a snare it once walked into willingly? :3c

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): +3

This can be something of a crutch that writers less in tune with the characters internality will use to patch over the lack of depth. Sure he is happy sunshine but what else is he bringing to the table? And selflessness has been done so not just that. And sure this guy is somber but it he reserved due to upbringing, class, inability to communicate? Is he communicating with the sunshine one because he feels safe with them, they share social status, spicy brainedness compatibility? So its a -2 if only step one is done, but up to a 3 if used well.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +10

Shout out to all you allos out there, experiencing sexual attraction to someone everything else in you rejects. Couldn't be me.

My point of reference for this is Erik and Charles of x men fame. I am so sold on their differences being irreconcilable while the respect and love between them is so apparent. This trope can be brilliant because it can only work if both characters have solid motivations, so solid not even love is enough to shake it; that almost magic force of narrative inevitability. But wait, there's more! What if there isn't love? What if they hate eachother, hurt eachother with every touch? Clawing, primal fucking as another battle.

Friends with benefits: +4

Generally this is a tag for side pairing, gen fic, ships that are going to breakup for the main pairings, or the main pairing before the reason for them to get romancy with it arrives. Its alright.

Sex to feelings: +2

This one can pair nicely with the previous trope. So you thought this was casual, no strings? Reverse Uno fool! Now how do you navigate your existing boundaries, keep your cards close to your chest, come to terms with why your needs have changed while all still in the middle of it? The tropes a bit hard to pull off in new ways so I wouldn't say I go out of my way for it.

Fake dating/relationship: +4

This needs a good set up, a thread of ingenuity to keep things fresh, and some plot to get my attention. Why is the relationship fake? When does it become real? How are expectations communicated and revived? The entire story can't rest of will they or wont they alone.

Friends to lovers: 0

Well its one of the three options right? They don't know eachother and meet, they do know eachother acquaintances, or they are enemies/friends. So I guess saying I like one over the other is way too limiting.

Found Family: +5

Its nice to see the world expand beyond just the romance story. Your guys should have friends and have deep relationships with them. Each one should enhance the story and reveal a unique facet of the world.

Hurt/Comfort: +10

If I see the H lacking the C, I am liable to click away. I get some people like hopelessness, despair, unwinnable defeat just I am not able to shake those feelings off when the fic ends. Ahem anyway about the trope that is here! I can wade through a swamp of sadness if I know there's a lighted window come the end. This feels like a closer, more personal story, where the camera doesn't turn away after the credits roll. What consequences come about from surviving? And then the answer is love.

Love Triangle: +6

Does everyone involved actually have a reason to be here besides 1. the plot said so and 2. person hot? If yes you may proceed. I think scum villain handles this one very well! Liu Qingge loves Shen QQ because he saved his life and was kind, Yue Qingyuan loves Shen QQ because he has never had a time in his life he didn't love him, Luo Binghe loves Shen QQ because he chose him and loved him first. The conflict between these people isn't a bare bones "I want him" but genuine belief that the other suitors are not good for him because of the plot. (Well, Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge could work it out).

Poly, open relationships: +8

For the love of sausages, can people just agree to non monogamy when its an obvious solution? The one partner for all doesn't even fit in the real world much less in one made to throw these people at eachother. Do something rad with it.

Mistaken/hidden identity: +9

There is yet a trace of the true self within the false self. Another part of a character can be shown when they put aside who they think they are and should be. Who is in or isn't in the know? This can be so plotty and charactery!~

Monsterfucking: +3

Forgive me, I want to love this more then I do. I certainly don't mind it and the metaphor made tangible for alienation, otherness, spoopyness can really work. But I don't go "Oooo this has tentacles yes yes". The monsterness needs to serve a purpose in the story.

Pregnancy: +5

Its certainly a topic that is in the real world and can use some exploration in fiction. Who can and can't carry, who can and can't raise the resulting children, social expectations couched in terms of biological inevitability. I've seen some omegaverse fics that rock my world with how they turn the everyday alien with just a few twists and turns.

Second Chance: +10

This goes very well with a tragedy. Was it always going to be this way, with blood on your hands and at your feet? Or could you really have found a differnt way if only you knew then what you knew now? Who, what, are you really when set free from what bound you? Characters that come to mind are Kenshin of same anime name fame, Jin Guangyao or Lan Xichen of mdzs (wherein, notably, evil necromancer Yiling Laozu gets his second chance), Kim Dokja and co of Omniscient Reader, and pretty much the standard OS of all isekai and time travel fics.

Slowburn: +6

I love a good slowburn. The romance has time to establish that this is about who these two (or more) people are, rather then a hollywood 'this movie needs romance so kiss so they know who the leads are". Show me the gaps that these people coming together will fill, or the flaws they will bring out in eachother, or how the plot needs them both, not just one while the other is agencyless.

Soulmates: +8

I saw this done very well by esama with her fic Sun(something or another). As children, Bondmate 1 rejected Bondy 2 which hurt them so badly they devoted their life to destroying everything bondmate 1 had or cared for and you felt he was right for doing so. Like, yeah, yeah, thats got meat on it tell me more. It also explored other worst case bond scenarios, like what if your bond gets turned undead, or is in a coma? Then there is the 'au' type soulbond fic where because there is this magical fate, how does canon change? How does society change? There are so many ways to do it to, opt in or opt out, spoken, art, written, red or color threads. This trope leads to plot.
