Where you have problems with the words starting with R

Riddle, Rook and Ruggie x Reader

How would Rook, Riddle and Ruggie react if they realized that you avoid calling them by their name at all costs, because you have difficulty pronouncing words beginning with R?

I find it funny that you ask me this, because I had a lot of trouble pronouncing the "doble rr" as a child (in spanish, my native language, it's a sound that doesn't exist in english, in words like "perro", etc.) I went to the speech therapist when I was 4 or 5 years old, since it is a fairly common problem not being able to pronounce the double r

At first, Riddle takes it personally.

Why are you calling him “You” all the time like he’s your classmate and not your boyfriend? He’s even heard you call Deuce by his first name!

He doesn’t want to scold you—he’s trying to be better about that—but it does make him quietly anxious.

“You can call me Riddle, you know,” he finally says one afternoon, trying to sound casual, but his fingers fidget with his pen.

You freeze. And mumble something like, “Yeah... you.”

That’s when Riddle’s brain, as sharp as it is rule-bound, finally connects the dots. You’ve never once said a word that starts with "R" around him. Not Riddle, not roses, not even ramen when Trey brought it up.

Guilt hits him like a tidal wave.

“...Do you have trouble with R sounds?” he asks gently.

When you admit it, sheepishly, Riddle just goes quiet for a moment—then he scoots closer, gently brushing your hand with his.

“Thank you for telling me,” he says, earnestly.

“There’s nothing wrong with the way you speak. I like hearing your voice, no matter how you say my name. But... if it makes you feel better, you can call me anything you'd like.”

After that, he gets oddly flustered when you call him cute pet names like sweetheat or my love, but he never corrects you again.

At first, he doesn’t notice. You call him “Bucchi,” “Hyena Boy,” “hey you,” and every nickname—he just thinks you’re being cute or cheeky.

But then he overhears you say “Deuce” and “Ace” perfectly in a conversation with them.

Cue record scratch.

He raises an eyebrow, tail flicking with curiosity. "... why don’t I get the honor of being called by name, huh?”

You try to dodge it, joking your way out, but he can see the embarrassment behind your grin. That’s when he softens.

“Wait... hang on. Is it ‘cause it’s hard for you to say?”

You finally nod. You tell him how R’s get caught in your mouth, how you hate how it sounds when you try to say them.

Ruggie blinks. Then grins.

“That’s it? Sheesh, you had me thinkin’ you were mad at me or somethin’!”

He immediately wraps an arm around your shoulder and ruffles your hair.

“Y’know, I kinda like it when you call me weird nicknames anyway. ‘Hyena Boy’? That’s hilarious.”

He never makes a big deal out of it, but if he ever hears someone tease you for your speech, they will know pain.

And if you ever do manage to say his name, even just once, he gets this little crooked smile and says, “That one’s goin’ in the memory bank forever.”

Rook notices immediately. This man is the embodiment of hyper observant.

He thinks it’s adorable, actually. You’ll say, “Hey, mon soleil,” or “Youuuuuu~!” while dramatically waving from across campus, and never once say his name.

He tries a little playful teasing.

“Ah, ma colombe, you say everyone’s name with such ease... but never mine. Am I cursed, perhaps~?”

You visibly stiffen, and that’s when he drops the teasing. His expression shifts into something warm, understanding, and completely sincere.

“Is it difficult for you to say words beginning with ‘R’?” he asks, ever so gently.

When you admit it, a little shyly, his reaction is pure sunshine.

“Ahh~ mon amour,” he says. “There is a certain elegance to overcoming challenges, isn't it? You needn’t say my name if it brings you discomfort. I shall treasure whatever words you gift me.”

From that day forward, he makes a habit of calling you beautifully poetic pet names, hoping to make you feel more confident using your own.

And when you one day manage to say his name—halting, unsure—his smile is brighter than the sun.

PAC: What Greek Mythology love story would you and your FS be?

○●○●○●○●○●○●

Just came out of a bone-crushing healing and shadow work period for my Kundalini Awakening going on right now T-T In an attempt to raise my spirits, I created my very first FS reading-

pile 1:

General vibe of your love story with your FS-

This is the movie pile. I see a full-blown movie arc in my mind’s eye for your love story with your FS. I see an opening at- you guys meeting, the middle act- your separation and individual trials, and the final act- the happy reunion! OBVIOUSLY, there's nuance to how all of this will unfold for each of y’all reading since it's real life we're talking about, but your story with your FS is the closest thing to a happily-ever-after if I've ever seen one.

It's like when y’all first met, y’all were young, or maybe some of y’all didn't know how to handle a relationship or didn't have the resources in the 3D (think money or a place of your own, something like that) to make this relationship happen? Maybe it was long distance for a looong time? And so, for whatever reason (along said lines) y’all had to let each other go or y’all couldn't be together. It's like y’all were shown a grand possibility to be together, and BOOM it was taken away.

Then you guys enter a separation period right after, and the length of this period will differ for everybody reading, anywhere between months to a couple of years. After having worked HARD on yourselves ON YOUR OWN to overcome your personal issues, traumas, and suffering, you guys come together. The key to really mastering your obstacles is in the day to day. You will have set routines to tackle your obstacles, such as say you’ve got anxiety or a dys-regulated nervous system, so maybe you'll always have a stress relief meditation scheduled in no matter how your day looks. So on and so forth, fill in the details of this period as it best suits your life. But the common denominator, I feel like, is that y’all really fight to be with one another. The love is so deep here, and that's what motivates each of you to overcome your personal hurdles, yk? And THEN, when it happens, and y’all reunite, it's sooo beautiful. It's like you guys will build a brand new life together where you can put the past behind and finally enjoy the fruits of your labor! Also, I see you guys growing and blossoming over time with your FS upon reunion 🥺✨.

So… which Greek myth sums up YOUR love story with your FS the best?

It’s the story of Cupid and Psyche!

From what I’ve read about this story, Cupid and Psyche couldn’t immediately be together after they met. Cupid could only meet Psyche at night AND she’s not even allowed to see him! T-T This was part of what Psyche has to overcome- the challenges put forth by Aphrodite just because the goddess was jealous of Psyche. And poor Cupid had self-esteem issues from what I gather lmao. He didn't even feel worthy to show his mortal wife what he REALLY looked like (which, by the way, is GORGEOUS af?! Like who hurt you, Cupid?) They eventually overcome their odds and reunite. Eventually, Jupiter blesses Psyche with immortality, which allows them to live forever in their new life happily ever after. Ahhh… beautiful.

General vibe of your love story with your FS-

Reeeeally strongly coming in right off the bat, I feel like both you AND your FS will be turning a brand new leaf in your lives. Think a new job for one or both of you. A major relocation for one or both of you. A major relationship ending for one or both of you. You catch the drift, right?

It feels like y’all will be closing out a cycle and entering into a new era, so to speak. And in this new era, I sense that you'll keep mostly to yourself and aren't all that interested in anybody because you're still processing this BIG shift you just went through and you're reflecting a lot, drawing on your wisdom, staying in your lane. Ngl, you do feel vulnerable and raw too, which is probably why you seem to keep to yourself mostly during the time you might run into your FS. I sense the same from their end too.

You know what this is? Mutual healing. Your future spouse finds you at a time when you're in the dead center of healing and vice versa. You will both be the catalysts to each other's healing! How cool is that? And after y’all find stability in your journey together especially after navigating healing for so long… I see y’all being so comfortable and content and peaceful with one another 🥺 this makes my heart full!! Stop it! Ahhhhhh <3 The vibes are immaculate, it's giving 'comrades in the battlefield' kinda energy. Your FS will stick with you no matter what, literally. It’s the story of Odysseus and Penelope!

Now in the story of Odysseus and Penelope, both of them undergo significant changes and face major disruptions in their lives. Odysseus’s long journey home from the Trojan War and Penelope’s long period of waiting and dealing with suitors at home. BUT even in Odysseus's absence, Penelope remains faithful and focused on her own survival and household. Similarly, Odysseus endures many trials and tribulations. Both characters are found in a state of self-reflection in the face of personal challenges (in my humble opinion of course). Their reunion symbolizes mutual healing… both of our characters here show incredible loyalty and perseverance despite being apart for 20 years!

-Side note: on a completely different note, your story low key kinda reminds me of the story of James and Claire from Outlander >< shoutout to the Outlander fans hehehehe, I'm waiting for the 9th season to come out SO BAD ughhhh lmao-

Ah.. my Pile number 3s.. you guys are afraid to love.. aren't you? You might be blocked off from your heart and as a result won’t be open to true reciprocal and healthy love for a WHILE. But then I see that the divine will enter your life in some way and shake you up in a big way to show you how you've been standing in your own way and keeping love at a distance.. I'm seeing the tower card in my third eye as I say this even though it hasn't come out for you today.

Ah, this is like a personal journey I see you taking before your FS comes in and swoops you off your pretty lil feet 🙃 tehe! Your energy seems quite mental to me. You love living in your head, thinking, planning, analyzing, and just knowing things. But this came at the grave cost of not being connected to your heart.. and when the divine intervenes and helps you connect to your heart again is when your FS comes in flying ✨.

The story of Pygmalion and Galatea!

Yup, just like how Pygmalion accidentally manifested Galatea, you kinda accidentally manifest your future spouse too (low key reeeal funny ngl). Because Pygmalion refused to love anybody, he sculpted out his perfect woman and fell in love with his creation. His deep affections attract the attention of you guessed it Aphrodite herself, and she decides to ahem intervene. She brings Galatea to life, which represents the transformation of Pygmalion's mental fixation (and emotional disconnection) TO emotional CONNECTION. How perfectly beautiful. Ugh. Love your story, Pile 3. Gosh.. who doesn't love their FS simply falling into their laps? Haha

What is Spiritual Warfare and how to overcome it with the help of God?

• Spiritual warfare is the idea that there's a battle going on between good and evil forces. In Christianity, this means a fight between God and His angels against the devil and his demons. It mainly happens in our minds, hearts, and spirits. It’s about resisting bad thoughts, temptations, and influences that go against what God wants for us. Though we believe that Jesus has indeed already defeated Satan by dying on the cross and coming back to life, the enemy still tries to lead us to sin in order to push us away from God, thus spiritual warfare.

• “Symptoms” vary since the devil attacks you where it hurts the most, to make you as vulnerable as possible; but here are some of the most common ones:

- believing that your not worthy of having a relationship with God or talking to God therefore feeling the need to distance yourself from him

-self destructive / sabotage / harm temptations

-paranoia / overthinking

-strong headaches / body aches

-temptations towards sin such as lust, gluttony, laziness, anger.. etc, depends on your weaknesses

-self hatred & self doubt / doubt in faithfulness

-hopelessness, fear, anxiety

-random depressive moods & replaying bad memories … the list goes on!

• Living a life more aligned with God’s will is seen as a threat to Satan and his purposes, leading to increased attempts to discourage or derail one’s faith journey. With a deeper relationship with God often comes a greater sense of purpose and mission, attracting more challenges and obstacles from evil forces trying to prevent one from fulfilling God’s plans. Our Father allows these intensified battles to refine and strengthen our faith, helping us rely more on Him and grow spiritually.

See You Back at the Bonfire: Checkpoint Based Resurrection in D&D

Between doing a writeup on soulsborne inspired campaign settings and another on the oldschool/newschool disparity between challenge and story, I got to thinking about death and its place in gamified narratives. Darksouls was the obvious influence, but I couldn't help but think of Dungeon Meshi, World of Warcraft, and supergiant's Hades.

Back in the day death was common in d&d, the challenges were unforgiving and the characters were expendable as they were simple. High level might as well have meant "high scoring", as the rewards for overcoming deathtraps and monsters with save-or-die abilities were directly translated into character progression. Death in this instance amounted to a combo breaker, being sent back to square 1 in a roguelike to do it all again. Over time though we started getting attached to our avatars, especially those of us who played primarily for story, leading characters to become too emotionally or mechanically complicated to feed into the blender.

This leaves the modern DM in a bit of a lurch: death by mooks or misadventure denies a satisfying (or heartwrenching) endpoint to the story you're collectively telling with your players. Look no further than Critical Role, where there are a small number of plot-meaningful deaths ( Vexhalia in the Tomb, Mollymauk to the Iron Shepards) and then a much larger tally of obligatory moments where someone fails one too many death saves and requires the use of a spell slot. The DM is forced to play with gloves on much of the time, holding back from creating real challenges because they don't want to kill any of their characters at the wrong time.

What I’d like to propose is that when it comes to challenge vs story we can have the best of both worlds if we’re a little more freehanded when it comes to resurrection. It'll take some tinkering and it won't fit for every story, but as a baseline assumption to the d&d formula, I think it could be quite useful.

How It'd Work: If someone dies before their appointed time , their body can be brought to a local temple to have the gift of life restored to them. Temples of their own deity are thought to work best, but lifegiving deities like Pelor or Illmater are known to be quite freehanded when it comes to raising the dead, and even small countryside shrines are known to work in a pinch. The resurrection may not work if the body is damaged, desecrated, or incomplete, though sometimes the spirit is simply incapable or unwilling to return.

For adventuresome types, this means that if you bite it while exploring the wilderness or some dank ruin you best hope your companions like you enough to drag your corpse back to the nearest altar. Likewise hope that you've kept on good terms with that god. If your entire party wipes, there's a chance for a good samaritan (or enterprising corpse picker) to help you out, though they'll usually help themselves to what's in your pockets in the meantime.

Some temples also sell rare tokens or burnable offerings that can transform any mundane campfire into a one-use resurrection altar, though the expendable nature of these charms mean they are in high demand.

Behind the scenes: what we've done here is turn character death from a plot derailer into a plot generator. Whenever someone in your party dies, it's your excuse to introduce new npcs, questhooks, and worldbuilding. Hades uses this trick to soften the blow of defeat with story progression, and DunMeshi uses it to build out the setting.

We can likewise take a point of inspiration from soulsborne games which use the player's desire to find a safety granting bonfire to spur exploration; What's the first thing the party are going to when hitting a new settlement after renting a room at the inn? Check out the neighbourhood temples to see which of the local gods is sympathetic to them. Same thing with seeking out the shrine nearest to the dungeon entrance before descending lower to face greater threats, which has them engaging with the location's story while discovering a minor questhook to endear themselves to the shrine god.

This is also to say nothing of all the fun adventure-fodder surrounding the mechanics including all the delightful "came back wrong" possibilities.

Finally let's talk about some gameplay assumptions: It's a tricky art building d&d encounters, especially since 5e play tends to default towards having fewer encounters per day, meaning a greater importance on these encounters being more challenging. This is a problem that I and many other DMs have wrestled with; finding the right degree of challenge for the encounter to be meanacing and meaningful, but without going so far as to risk an unexpected character death derailing my game. There's only so many permadeaths a player (and a story) can endure, to say nothing of the narrative killing tpk, which can scrap months of investment and storytelling potential.

Videogame designers figured out this balancing act of narrative and risk a long time ago, bumping characters back to a checkpoint when the player is overwhelmed by a challenge. The Soulsborne franchise built it's reputation on this "If at first you don't succeed, die, die again" mentality, which let them build the challenging ( read: engaging) gameplay the series is known for. Games like Hades go so far as to make this reset a centeral point of furthering the plot, allowing the narrative to expand with each stumble along the player's insurmountable climb.

By allowing characters to be easily revived, we end up with the best of both worlds when it comes to narrative vs. difficulty. The encounters we build can be more challenging in the moment if we know we won't accidently end a campaign if the dice get mean. This also makes players more likely to make big swings and try for optional content knowing the campaign less likely to end if they fuck up.

While some people might take umbrage with the idea of making resurrection commonplace, D&D already allows for characters to be revived though in-game mechanics at the cost of cleric spells and diamond dust. The devs figured out pretty early that even in a game centred around frequent violent clashes, it sucks to have a character you're invested in die unexpectedly, and it's better for the health of the game/narrative to be able to get those characters back at a cost. The problem is that these resurrection mechanics are siloed off to mid/high level characters, when it's the low level adventurers who are most fragile and thus most in need of an in-game safety net.

Secondly, look at the Soulsborne series as the inspiration for this post: part of the reason players are able to "Git Gud" is because the fast respawns allow for players to get right back into the action after making a fatal error, allowing for a "die, die again" playstyle focused on persistence and adaptation. This likewise allows developers to develop gameplay scenarios that are properly intimidating:

I'm very nervous because I've wanted to write this for a long time but I was overcome by anxiety or insecurity 🥺💔… however, I dared and here's an idea that I've been baking for a long time. There are those who say that changes are good and necessary. That they can often cause fear or discomfort, but that the only thing left to do was to trust in the process.

Make that leap of faith...

However, this important change in little Gabriella O'Hara's life was almost a nightmare.

Her curious, brown eyes looked out the car window. The huge buildings, the vehicles coming and going at all hours, the shiny signs... it was all very bright. Almost blinding.

But... Gabriella had not the slightest interest in enjoying Nueva York. She missed Mexico, her comfort zone, her school and friends... even that annoying and nosy neighbour.

Not that enormous cage of concrete.

She looked to her other side, where her new backpack, adorned with a lovely Kuromi keychain and full with books and differents pencils, occupied the empty spot next to her.

First school day...

The loud blaring of a horn brought her back to reality. Great, nothing better than starting the day with the usual Nueva York traffic.

The girl's eyes glanced in the rearview mirror, where she met her dad's red ones: Miguel O'Hara. A tall, big, burly man. His brown hair was slicked back, with a few messy strands. She saw him smile slightly through it, but the girl didn't smile back.

— Mija...

Gabriella looked at her dad again, attentive to what he had to say.

— We talked about this, didn't we? — he said, holding tight the wheel. —I know you're nervous, and it's scary being new... but I promise you that feeling will go away when you meet your new classmates. You'll make friends, and who knows, maybe there will be a soccer team at school. — Miguel told her, trying to lighten the mood a bit and make Gabriella calm down a little.

However, he didn't get a very convincing answer. The girl just shrugged and nodded, turning her gaze back to the window.

Miguel sighed and turned his full attention back to the front, pressing slightly on the accelerator as the traffic light changed to green.

There was not doubt that the change of country, house, neighborhood had been very hard on both of them, especially Gabriella. The first few days she cried a lot, saying she missed her home and her old classmates... now, she chould be calmer, but she wasn't smiling or playing...

Miguel hoped that would all change soon...

The school was a huge, three-level building, with walls painted in soft tones and many windows. It was designed to house different grades and educational levels.

As it was the first day, it was common to see several children saying goodbye to their parents. Some with tears in their eyes, others reluctant to enter.

Miguel held Gabriella's small hand affectionately as he guided her towards the entrance. He felt how wet her little hand was. A clear sign of the nervousness she carried inside.

He bent down to be at her level and, with a calm smile, tried to transmit some reassurance.

— Mi amor, don't worry. Just... be yourself. I know you are nervous, that you miss our old home. But I promise you that soon you will feel better. You'll meet new friends, your teachers... and I'll be here, waiting for you when the class is over.

His big hands rested on her shoulders and gave her a tendre kiss on her forehead.

— Fine, papito. — the girl answered with a slight nod.

— That's my brave girl. Now go and be a good one.

Gabriella simply nodded and started walking towards the school.

— Gabriella! — Miguel called to her.

She turned around and when she saw him, Miguel made a heart shape with his hands.

— ¡Te quiero mucho, mi niña!

For the first time in a long time, Gabriella smiled sweetly and returned the gesture, also forming a small heart with her hands.

— Tambien te quiero, papito.

Miguel watched her until she disappeared into the crowd of children. He exhaled deeply, feeling some of the weight on his shoulders ease. Seeing his daughter so vulnerable broke his soul. He missed the cheerful, energetic little girl...

Now, he could only be strong for her, and be there for her when his little girl needed him.

With confident steps, he returned to his car and drove to his new job in Alchemax, the renowned corporation that hired him thanks to his research and thesis developed during his PhD.

And the day was just beginning...

If from outside the school looked big, inside it was even more impressive. The walls were adorned with photos and portraits of outstandings students, either for academic achievements or for representing the school in fairs or contests.

Gabriella walked through the halls with her backpack on her back and her lunch box in her hands. She felt so tiny...

Around her passed children of all heights, some her size, others much taller. Anxiety didn't leave her alone.

Amidst the bustle, Gabriella spotten an adult woman giving directions to the students, holding a folder.

— First grade to fifth grade to the first floor! Sixth grade to eighth grade, to the second floor! No running! — the woman repeated it loudly.

She was robustly built, with an apron decorated with flowers, glasses on the tip of her nose, and curly hair pulled back in a bun. She repeated the same instruction to each group that arrived.

Swallowing saliva, Gabriella reached over and gently tugged on the apron to get her attention.

— Excuse me, Miss... — she said softly, almost imperceptibly.

The woman looked down to meet the shy eyes of the girl with a pony tail.

— Good morning, little one. How can I help you, hm?

— I'm new... and I don't know where my classroom is. Could you help me, please? — Gabriella replied, fiddling nervously with her fingers.

The woman nodded as she flipped through the folder she was holding.

— Name?

— Gabriella O'Hara.

Nodding again, she searched the alphabetized list.

— O'Hara... here you are. First floor. Third grade, section C. Go down that hallway, then turn left. The doors have garde signs on them. Remember, 3rd C.

— Thank you.

Gabriella took a deep breath and started walking, following the directions, surrounded by other children also looking for their respectives classrooms.

Each step felt heavier, her heart pounding. She was in an unknown country, in a different school, with faces she had never seen before...

Finally, her eyes fell on the door that displayed the words '3rd C'. The door was decorated with flowers and stars made of glittery foamy. The door was opened, allowing her to see the desks occupied by children her age.

The classroom was cozy and cheerful, with a large whiteboard, coat hooks, small lockers and a 'WELCOME' sign hanging from the ceiling. Still, Gabriella didn't enter immediately. She stood outside for a moment, watching the other children take their seats.

And then, the bell rang.

The first day of school had offically begun.

There were hurried footsteps, laughter, shouting, and various conversations coming from other children.

Gabriella crossed the doorway of the classroom timidly as her new classmates sat down in their seats.

She, on the other hand, remained motionless by the door. Overcome by uncertainty and with her heart pounding.

At that moment, a lovely-looking young woman entered the classroom, carrying some books. You were wearing a lovely outfit: baggy jeans and a white T-shirt with a rainbow drawn on the chest. Your hair was long and pulled back in a high ponytail, adorned with colorful clips that gave yourself a cheerful vibe.

Holding your hand was a little girl of a similar age to Gabriella, with two long braids that fell over her shoulders and freckles all over her face. You whispered something in her ear, and the girl walked toward a pair of desks, sitting down at one of them.

— Good morning, students! — you greeted in an enthusiastic yet sweet voice.

— Good morning, Miss! — the children answered in unison, marking each syllable carefully.

— Welcome to this new school day. I hope that together we will experience beautiful moments, full of learning, and-

—Miss,— a tan-skinned girl interrumpted, raising her hand.

— Yes? — you said kindly.

— The new girl hasn't sat down yet.

Immediately, almost a dozen eyes fell on Gabriella, who felt the ground vanish beneath her feet. Her body tenses and her hands, soaked in sweat, clenched her lunch box tightly.

You gave her a warm smile and approached her tenderly, bending down to her level.

— Hi. I'm sorry I didn't notice you before,— you apologised with a smile.

Gabriella swallowed nervously.

— Come, let me introduce you to the class, — you added, extending your hand with a welcoming expression.

Gabriella hesitated for a moment, her trembling fingers still clinging to the lunch box as if it were a shield. But your gaze was so genuine, so full of calm, that little by little her muscles began to relax. Shyly, she reached out her hand and accepted yours.

— You're very brave, — you whispered kindly, as you walked together to the front of the classroom. — Changing school is never easy, but I'm so happy you're here.

When you both reached the whiteboard, your turned to the class with a kind smile.

— What's your name, sweetie?

— Gabriella...

— Gabriella. Nice to meet you, Gabriella, — you talked to the others. — Students, let's welcome Gabriella with respect and kindness. We've all been new once, and we know it's not easy. Let's make her feel welcome and accompanied.

— YEEEEEES! — the children shouted in unison.

— All right... hmmm... you can sit next to Emily.

You pointed to the empty desk next to the girl with braids. With slow, nervous steps, Gabriella made her way to the indicated spot and sat down next to Emily, who hadn't said a word since she arrived.

Then, you wrote your name on the board with colored markers, eagerly introducing yourself, but Gabriella was barely paying attention. Her mind was elsewhere, wandering between thoughts of her old home and doubts about this new beginning.

— Do you like Kuromi? — Emily's voice brought her out of her reverie.

— Huh?

— I mean... do you like Kuromi? — Emily repeated, pointing to the keychain hanging from Gabriella's backpack. It was a nice keychain, one that Miguel had bought her at the mall a few weeks ago.

— Yes... — Gabriella replied quietly.

Emily smiled and showed her hers: a My Melody keychain.

Gabriella smiled back, this time a sincere smile. That girl seemed... kind. And not so different from her.

— Did you know that Kuromi and My Melody used to be enemies? But now they're like... kinda friends, — Emily commented whispering, not wanting to interrupt you.

Gabriella nodded sheepishly.

— My dad brought it for me at Miniso, — Gabriella answered whispering too.

— My sister got mine from Miniso too, — said Emily, visibly proud.

After finishing an ice-breaking activity in which the children shared memories, experiences and thoughts that you planned, the bell rang, announcing the first recess.

Emily showed Gabriella the school playground, a large and lively space with grass, different games, walls full of colors, and school motifs. In the center, a small soccer field.

Gabriella's eyes lit up when she saw several boys and girls running after a ball.

— Do you like soccer?

Gabriella nodded enthusiastically.

— Yes, I love it. I used to play it with the kids in my neighborhood and also at aschool back in Mexico. How about you?

The girl with braids smiled.

— Not much, — she admitted with a giggle. — I prefer drawing. Although... the ones here are kinda of annoying.

— Annoying? Why?

— They say it's not a sport for weak girls, — Emily answered, lowering her voice. — But I try not to listen to them...

Her tone was unsure, almost like a whisper.

They both sat under the shade of a tree, enjoying the warm morning sun. They talked about simple things, tastes, small curiosities. Despite being somewhat quiet and withdrawn, they understood each other very well, as if they were lifelong friends.

But that quiet morning would not last long… Soon, dark clouds would approach to interrupt the calm.

Miguel had started his first day at work perfectly. Thanks to his background in chemistry and genetics, he only needed to receive his schedule, get to know his tasks and familiarize himself with part of the structure of the imposing building.

Everything was going perfect, until...

— Miguel?

His eyes, with their characteristic reddish hue, turned away from the computer screen when he heard his name. The receptionist of the apartment was in front of him. According to his colleague Olivia, her name was Lyla. She was a young woman with a bob hairdo and heart-shaped glasses. A bit eccentric, yes, but with an undeniable friendliness.

— Yes, Lyla?

— You have a phone call. It seems to be about your daughter... Gabriella O'Hara.

Confused, Miguel took off his glasses and set them with some haste on the desk. He got up and walked over to where Lyla was.

What had happened? Had she had a problem?

Had her nerves betrayed her? Or had she simply forgotten something?

But that anticipatory uneasiness would not compare to what he was about to feel...

— And why did you move in with your dad?

The questions kept flowing between the girls as the shared an apple cut in two.

— Well... Some people offered him a better job. He said that where we lived, we couldn't really be happy. I don't know exactly what he meant.

Emily nodded softly before taking a small bite of her half. Gabriella was sitting cross-legged on the ground, while Emily hugged her knees, settling in next to her.

— What about your mom?

The question brought Gabriella to silence. She wasn't sure she wanted to answer it...

— I don't know her,— she finally said softly. — It's just me and my dad.

Emily nodded again. Even though they were little, they could both recognize what hurt, even without many words.

The braided girl was about to ask another question when something, or rather someone, blocked the sunlight. In front of them appeared a group of four boys, older than them by a grade or two. The one leading had brown hair and was surprisingly tall for his age. Next to him were a boy with glasses, another with tousled hair, and a long-haired blond girl who looked on with disdain.

— Look at this... looks like the weirdo already got a friend, — sneered the tallest one, his tone clearly provocative.

The other three burst out laughing. Gabriella and Emily were silent, hoping that, if they didn't pay attetion to them, they would get tired and leave.

But they didn't...

— I'm Daniel, Alex's older brother, — said the brown-haired boy. — He told me there's a new girl in his class. A spic.

Gabriella didn't answer. Neither did Emily.

— What's the matter, don't you speak English? Or do you need a dictionary, alien? — the blonde interjected, making the others laugh louder.

— You think it's funny to have to share school with someone like you?

Gabriella stood up with a straight face, holding out her hand to Emily. She just wanted to leave. But before they could walk away, the blonde stepped forward and blocked their path, cornering them against the tree.

— Where are you freaks going?

— Leave us alone! Emily exclaimed in a trembling yet determined voice.

The group froze for a moment, surprised that it was Emily who was speaking. The blonde, without saying a word, pushed Emily, making her stagger a little.

— What's the matter? Are you gonna cry like you always do? — laughed the boy with glasses.

— Are you gonna cry for your mommy, weirdo?

— She wants to cry! She wants to cry! — they all chanted.

Emily squeezed her eyes shut. The tears came fast, filling her face with pent-up sadness. Gabriella felt something inside her explode. A deep, hot rage she had never felt before.

— Don't touch her again! — she shouted loudly, and without thinking, she pushed Daniel with both hands, who fell sitting on the floor, completely stunned.

The world seemed to freeze.

— Are you crazy? — he exclaimed from the floor, red with shame and anger.

Gabriella didn't back down. She was trembling but not out of fear. Something exploded within her, like a deep willingness to protect Emily.

— Don't touch her! — she said angrily.

The blonde took a step forward but stopped when she heard a firm voice shout from the playground: your voice.

— You stop! Right now! Miss Veronica, miss Gabriella!

It was you, walking hurriedly. This time, with a serious expression.

— This is unacceptable! Everyone to the principal's office right now! — you ordered, looking at each of them sternly. Then, your eyes fell on Gabriella and Emily. — Are you alright?

Emily sniffed and nodded. However, Gabriella only looked at the ground...

— I'm afraid you're coming with me... — you said a little softer, without leaving your serious tone.

Gabriella swallowed, feeling her heart beating hard. But trying to comfort her, she took Emily's hand. Then, both girls followed you to the principal's office.

before i told myself and all the people i love that i was a woman, i had already overcome insurmountable odds and decided the fate of a decaying world in the body of one. i’d broken myself out of an asylum meant to contain people like me, fought through hordes of monstrous entities that wanted nothing more than the sight of me dead, and chosen to break the cycle of life and death kept in limbo by the burning of an eternal flame.

i am, of course, talking about the original dark souls.

it’s no secret that these games have a special significance within the trans community — it seems especially trans women are drawn to the spiritual journey and tough challenges inherent in their design. since that first experience slashing through lordran with a stolen black knight’s greatsword, i have walked under the gaze of a world that sees me as a liability at best and a danger to the decided order at worst. i have collected the umbilical cords of a great one. i’ve taken hormones that have altered my body into a vessel fit for my soul, and i have bested a rotting and golden-armed warrior who has never known defeat. three times.

if i can dodge waterfowl dance, i can survive being trans in america.

if i can slay darkeater midir, i can survive being trans in america.

if i can learn lady maria’s parry timing, i can survive being trans in america. and look super hot doing so.

these games are everything to me, and i often find myself using my character’s journey and pitfalls and triumphs as a sort of sigil for my own life. the parallels between the souls games and transness run deep, and my connection to them is furthered by the musical structure and rhythm of their combat and exploration. defeating isshin the sword saint without hesitation can’t be that different from learning the right hand pattern to neon by john mayer on guitar, or navigating an ever-more-hostile healthcare system after all.

whenever times get tough and i feel as if i would be better suited cutting my time in this reality short and sweet, i remind myself of the lessons these games taught me: hesitation is defeat. react not from fear but from primal rhythmic understanding. dodge into the attack and not away. never give up, no matter what.

the only line that runs through those of us that survive and thrive in this world is the quality of persistence. that is to say, anyone doing something that you too want to accomplish only has one thing in common: they kept going and didn’t give up, no matter what.

the souls games (especially elden ring) teach you to approach adversity in an abstract and nonlinear fashion. something is kicking your ass? go kill a few beasts. find a cool new weapon and upgrade it. pillage a larval tear from an underground temple and respec your entire skill set. you can do this.

us trans folk are thrown into the world with no plan or blueprint for how to navigate it, much like the chosen undead is plucked from the asylum by a giant crow and dropped into lordran with a vague pair of instructions: ring two bells, one above and one below. you’ll figure it out, although you’ll die quite a bit doing so.

i’ve died so many times throughout my multiple lives in these worlds that i couldn’t even begin to guess the number. i plan on making it all the way through this one to the very end, and hold firm in my ability to learn the dodge or parry timing to any challenge that comes my way. if you are trans and reading this today, know that you inherently and skillfully are capable of the same.

I'm writing a whole essay analyzing Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo's relationship, but I wanted to share beforehand that I'm so tired that people ignore how well they complement each other, underestimating Gi-Hun's intelligence and judgement because he is not "explicitly intelligent."

They both equally share ideas with one another, recognizing how to overcome challenges against all odds, making them the leaders in a dysfunctional group that didn't have anything in common.

Despite Gi-Hun constant praise towards Sang-Woo, they always perceive each other as equals. Listening to one another and adding their input to reach the best conclusion.

And while Sang-Woo is clearly the smartest person in the room, he does not have the leadership charisma Gi-Hun has, relying on him for others to listen. Tug-Of-War depict their dynamic beautifully.

Honestly, it makes sense that they considered each other their best friend before going their separate ways. Their duo is unstoppable.

Everyone talks about how capitalism is the real villain while glancing over that homophobia is the real villain. Imagine if they didn't think they had to part ways, instead marrying each other and fulfilling what the other lacks.

I hate this so much.

Part 1

Mars is one of the most important planets in a composite chart. In the composite chart, this planet represents the bond’s action and drive, a sexual one and ego-driven one. Mars is considered a malefic planet that comes with challenge no matter which house it is placed in. It can show you where the challenges can lie and what it will take to overcome them and bear the powerful fruits of a developed Mars. Mars can also show how you approach individuality as one and where your expression lies within a relationship. It is very important to review the sign placement and other planets and/or luminaries aspecting Mars, as this will give you a more detailed description of how they will affect the expression of this planet.

I will be using the writings of Robert Hand from his novel “Planets In Composite: Analyzing Human Relations” to describe the meaning and significance of Mars in each composite house. Enjoy! xoo

1H Composite Mars

Composite Mars in the first house demands that this relationship be a complete expression of both of you. This should be the case with any relationship, but it is even more important in this instance. It would be best if you could find something that you both like to do together, and the more physically active the better. There is a lot of energy in your relationship that must be expended somehow.

If you can find a common purpose, all of your energy will be focused on that instead of on each other. You will be able to accomplish a tremendous amount of work together, and in the process you will enjoy each other. There is no way around the fact that this relationship demands activity.

Unfortunately, if you do not handle these energies properly, Mars can signify fighting and conflict. It is not that you necessarily dislike each other, although that could be the case, but that the relationship doesn’t give any relevance to the matters that are really important to each of you individually. There is you, the other person, and your relationship, all of which seem to have very little in common.

Keeping this problem in mind, this can be an excellent placement for any relationship that is specifically aimed at accomplishing a job or task, such as a professional association.

2H Composite Mars

Mars in the second house of the composite chart indicates a relationship in which your mutual ego-expression revolves around acquiring things, but not necessarily holding on to them. The second house is the house of one’s resources, both material and psychological.

There is a tendency to be reckless with resources, such as spending money too quickly or taking chances with possessions. It is as if the two of you glory in being able to do whatever you want with what you own. The problem is that you both have to agree on what to do with your mutual possessions. If you cannot agree, there could be serious disputes over property, possessions, and finances. Even if the relationship is otherwise satisfactory, the way you handle money and possessions could be a serious threat to harmony between you. It is very important that you come to some understanding about this issue as early as possible.

Even if you do agree, you should be careful about what you do with your resources. Otherwise you may find that the resources you need to accomplish something have disappeared.

Mars in the composite chart is related to joint ego-expression. The second-house position means that this will be achieved through property, possessions, and money. Plan very carefully how to achieve what you want, and be very sure to do something with what you have, for that is what the position signifies.

The second house can also signify values in an intellectual sense. Whatever your value systems are, be sure that you have a conscious understanding of them, or they could become an issue that divides you.

3H Composite Mars

Mars in the third house of the composite chart indicates several areas of expression in a relationship. First of all, the third house rules the lower mind, that is, the mind in its routine day-to-day functioning. If the two of you are not getting along well with each other, this placement of Mars signifies arguing and disputes and general intellectual disagreement. The problem is that each of you may identify with your own ideas and opinions so strongly that you regard a challenge to your beliefs as a challenge to your innermost self. Habits and other ingrained behavior patterns could also become an issue for dispute in this relationship. You must straighten out within yourselves and with each other what is going on inside you. In other words, you have to have great self-awareness.

The third house also rules the immediate environment and relatives. If your relationship is working out well, this simply means that the two of you will be actively and vigorously involved with your immediate family and relatives. If events take a negative turn, however, you may be constantly at odds with your immediate environment-continual disputes with relatives, for example. Again it is necessary that you both watch out for unconscious habits of thought.

4H Composite Mars

The fourth house rules the innermost bases of life-your own inner foundation, the home, the unconscious mind, your parents and in-laws. Mars in the fourth house of the composite chart is most noticeable if its energy is not working smoothly. If the Mars energy is working smoothly, you will hardly be aware of it. The two of you will work together with a natural rapport and an inherent smoothness.

However, if the Mars energy is not working smoothly, there will be a number of difficulties to work out. To begin with, the sources of your ego conflicts are buried deep within the relationship, so it will be difficult to root them out and bring them into the open. The causes of conflict will be in matters that you take so much for granted that you are not even aware of them. For this reason you must question even your most fundamental assumptions to discover how you are subverting your relationship.

The effects of this energy will be apparent in the most basic aspects of your lives. If you live together, the energy could manifest itself as arguments in and about the home. You might have differing concepts of what a home ought to be, which could be a serious source of conflict. Or if you are married, your parents might be the immediate occasion for battle. But neither home nor parents is really the problem. The basic difficulty is that your unconscious ideas and notions on various subjects become clear to you only when they are challenged. It will take a very deep inquiry into yourselves to get at these problems.

5H Composite Mars

The fifth house is a very compatible position for Mars in a composite chart, but the needs it generates must be met. It is a position of great self-expression, so there must be an ample opportunity for self-expression in this relationship. You must give each other plenty of room to be yourselves with a minimum of interference. If you impose all manner of limitations on each other, there will be considerable conflict. Mars is related to ego energies, which create no problem if expressed. If they are not expressed, however, they can create many difficulties.

It would be excellent for the two of you to be as active as possible together, with a common set of goals toward which you bend your energies. In that way the energy that might become a source of conflict can bind the two of you together.

In a sexual relationship this position can be extremely beneficial, provided that you follow the advice given above. The fifth is the house of love affairs, while Mars, along with Venus, rules sexual energy. In a sexual relationship with this position, if you don’t work well together on a sexual level, there is not likely to be harmony on any other level. The energy that should be used in sex instead becomes the source of very divisive ego conflict.

6H Composite Mars

With composite Mars in the sixth house, you will have a sense of work to be done together. The sixth is the house of work, and in a composite chart it signifies the duties and responsibilities that the two of you must fulfill through this relationship.

The difficulty with this position, as with all planets in the sixth house of the composite chart, is that your sense of duty will often overwhelm the feelings of joy and pleasure that should be present in a relationship. The two of you may begin to regard the relationship as a burden, a set of tasks, rather than something to be enjoyed for its own sake. This is a deafening point of view and is particularly difficult in a sexual relationship.

This position is least problematical in a business or professional association in which work is the sole object. But even here the two of you must enjoy being together, so that your work becomes a form of self-expression as well as a duty. The sixth house emphasizes the needful aspect of work rather than the self-expressive aspect.

If the two of you do not feel that you are accomplishing something fairly concrete by being together, this will be a disruptive problem. Enjoying each other or feeling that you are both growing through your relationship is not usually enough to satisfy the demands of this placement of Mars. There is work to be done.

A Helluva Boss hot take: Millie is a good female character, and an interesting representation about women that will take more relevance in the plot.

I recently watched Georgia Dow’s analysis on Millie and also with the recent events on Sinsmas I was thinking about how much of what the series is trying to say with Millie in the fandom general discourse is kinda ignored.

I won’t talk about how the series could have developed her more at this point (I know Season 2 was very much Stolitz focused, and they have left the female characters for S3, but I will explain why I think it was this way in my final prediction part).

I will talk about how even with this delayed development in relation to the other male main characters, she is currently a lot more than just a support character for the male main characters.

She is written as a powerful female character that has a grounded conflict relatable to women at the same time.

She does have layers; even in this moment where she hasn’t had a major development. I will go later by layer. I believe that all this layers apply to the main challenges we usually have to overcome as woman in society. I know for younger women this has changed a lot, but for me a lot of this things Millie struggles I have lived them or see them in other women.

Millie is an overachiever and she is very self-demanding

This is a very interesting re-do of the girlboss or overpowered female character archetype.

Yes, Millie is very strong and capable, and I believe this is an exc quality she should keep, and makes her super proud, and with a good self-esteem. She is good, prides herself on it and she is happy with what they do, basically. This is all good when Millie is in a good spot in Season 1.

However, if this goes too far it can lead Millie to being over demanding on herself and the people around her. (Yes, I know here she is also having mood swings, but is very telling to see her reaction at them refusing to do a job, because she sees it as failure, something she doesn’t allow herself to do)

This pattern can be traced with how her family sees her. They are proud of her strength, but also, if she fails like how it happened with Striker they are super disappointed and they show this in a way that can be hurtful… Moxxie is also not enough, the husband she chose, her work now that she is “freelance” pays less and is then is not good enough… they are actually pretty demanding on her, and have high expectations.

I think she has internalized this demands on herself too, even if she tries to brush them off, and this will show eventually. This is very relatable to women, because usually we ask ourselves to be perfect and to always do everything right. Self-demand issues and perfectionism are very common in women.

Millie’s protectiveness with Moxxie is not all what her character is, and this protectiveness mirrors Blitzø.

A lot of instances Millie is shown being capable of protect the gang and mostly Moxxie. But, this also puts her in a place of pressure when she is not able to protect him and she may feel guilt if something happens to him.

This is part of the background the series is building for her. This is the same as was revealed in Ghostfuckers for Blitzø.

A lot of people complain about this, but this actually shows she has been a caretaker in her family. In Helles Belles, Sally May mentions that now she is in charge on everything and that it got worse after she left... Probably Millie had to take care of everything and everyone too at home and she does this to Blitzø and Moxxie without even thinking about it… (Eldest daughter syndrome?).

This is why she relies too on Blitzø resiliency so much, and she tries to be for both of them when Blitzø feels bad in GF…

This part of her story I feel is very relatable to women, bc women have been the ones that are in charge of organizing a household and other caring roles like cooking or taking care of everyone’s health in most of modern societies. These are roles that are highly invisibilized and diminished, but that everyone needs.

I think this is also why she admires Blitzø so much and why they feel drawn as friends. Because Blitzø is someone being always helping out the people around him and Millie never had someone that did that for her.

The show pushing a close friendship between them off screen was actually incredible if you notice this parallels. They are partially alike, and this is why they felt so drawn to the other when they met.

Millie is ambitious and has dreams beyond her husband and family

She also felt the need to be more than a farmer and moved out her home. Same as Blitzø that is very ambitious and pushes to the limit to achieve his dreams and objectives. However, she didn’t completely believed in all what she could achieve. Blitzø expanded that vision, but he didn’t built everything about her, she has done it with her work even after she joined IMP.

Millie feels appreciated but for what she does and that’s good, but, the bad part is that not completely for who she is…

This was all the deal of unhappy campers basically.

Millie was appreciated in all her facets here, she barely had to do any effort.

Good at sports and outside activities.

Good at singing.

Just, cool.

Is very interesting that she got to experience this being disguised as a man. Is an interesting reversal from the usual dynamic. In earth and with humans probably she got that recognition in part because she was a “regular dude”. I feel this is also intentionally talking about how women sometimes need to overachieve to be just acceptable or to have a minimal recognition; and if men were as good or put the same effort women put in something they would be immediately praised. (This is probably me reading too much into it, but the choice of making a gender reversal in the episode was interesting because I am also taking into consideration the gender component in this analysis).

Since we know MyM’s usual dynamics, this episode highlighted a conflict that I think they have deep down. Moxxie wants to be praised by being good at work. Millie on the other hand, feels capable and is praised by Blitz for being good in the job, but deep down she wishes she could be praised while she does other kinds of things beyond “muscle”. Or just because she is her and exists. They have what the other want.

She feels fulfilled here by being loved instead of feared like while she kills. I find this interesting.

Millie is characterized and is not an incomplete female character.

I feel that I talked much about her challenges and virtues, but now, I want to make a small space just to mention things she is shown besides to what she does for others and her struggles.

She is very extroverted, and has clearly shown to love any kind of outside activities. The festival, Loo Loo World etc…

She likes to see action movies.

She doesn’t like the musicals and other things Moxxie watches, but understood the joy to be praised when she sang.

She is funny and has a strong personality.

She is confident and capable.

Overall, Millie is a very good character. Is a woman that is strong and fierce but with a good heart and a very secure personality because of her high capabilities. Who at the same time faces struggles that are relatable to women.

Predictions (this are just me guessing)

I think that in season 3 Millie will be a reversed Blitzø arc. Is interesting how she starts from a good place in the series, opposite to Blitzø that starts in a bad place and goes to a better one. She will go through a tough phase in S3 and the rest of the characters will be better, so they can help her. This is why Millie’s arc is starting until now, when all the other characters have progressed.

Also, now that Stolas is in the office and she is opening more to Loona it will be interesting to see the dynamic they will have going forward. This dynamic can be strengthened because she will be able to be vulnerable with them and connect to a deeper level, and could also tie with Loona and Stolas father daughter relationship forming.

With all what I thought while I wrote this, I think Millie will end up having the baby (I honestly hope they handle the abortion part well, because it is also an option for her and the show needs to portray it not as the “wrong” option).

I believe this, because in case she has the baby she will be forced to confront her deepest issue, that if she is not the capable fighter/assassin person she is not enough, and how this shouldn’t break her confidence and self-esteem. In this scenario, she will have some of those abilities diminished for a while. Also, if she wants to continue a career she will need support from all the family; so she will need to accept that and not feel that she isn’t capable enough.

Stolas here could have a role in the family, because he knows how to take care of a baby. Loona will be of great help on missions, now that Millie will need more backup, Moxxie will have other instances to show his abilities and maybe will feel motivated to train to be stronger and not just use the guns. Is interesting how Millie chooses to shoot in Sinsmas, like foreshadowing she will have a different role. Idk, all of this gives me the sensation that this is the direction the show will go.
