My post about protesting Pride was going to be about No Pride in Genocide. This is movement where instead of focusing on specific sponsors that support Israel you say that the whole concept of Pride is wrong, at least in the current situation, and you protest your local Pride. I was very confused when there were protesters at a Pride I attended at the start of the month, only 4 but they were at the entrance when the march joined the event itself. I didn't get it because this particular Pride did not have corporate sponsorship. I found the optics of protesting Pride, often associated with TERFs and the far right, to be off. I don't agree that it is helping Palestine.

The idea seems to be that having fun while someone else's world is burning and while other people are being oppressed is always wrong. I disagree, because I have to- the way my brain works it will latch on to basically any bad thing that is happening in the world and make me unable to do anything in my entire life that I might enjoy. I don't believe this is a survivable way to live. This kept me stuck in my flat with depression throughout my late 20s, barely able to do anything except work and sleep. That's no activism, is it? If it is, then why didn't it change anything?

Humans need joy. We need community. You can't build and maintain communities with chiding. You shouldn't look at a group of people having a good time and see people who don't care. You shouldn't look at people who broadly agree with you and see an uncaring mass. You dont know their lives. Our community has been dogged by this kind of thing since we became visible to the masses, including a segment of the far left who see gay people as far too frivolous to organise with and trans people as self obsessed individualists who care about our own identify over the collective. The latter kind of thinking is part of what kept me from coming out as trans sooner- the idea that having my own identity is wrong somehow. Especially with all the horrible things going on in the world.

Please: do activism for Palestine, and also enjoy and love your communities.

Sometimes I feel like I’m invisible😢😭, even though I speak out, and my pain is clear, written, and documented in every detail. I see other campaigns receiving donations, even though my situation is not less difficult—maybe even worse.

I’m Hilda, displaced, pregnant, and living amid starvation. I’m trying to protect the baby inside me, to give them a chance to live, but even the simplest things—food, water, medicine—have become distant dreams.

Every day that passes, my fear grows. Fear of hunger, illness, and not being able to provide even the most basic rights of life for the tiny life growing inside me.

I’m not complaining about others, but I do wonder… why is the response to my campaign so weak? Why is support so far from me, even though I’m honest and everything is clear and documented?
