Sometimes I play a Pokemon Game and don't want to make a new S/I for it but do want to interact with it's story and characters.

So here are some Wandering Protagonists I aged up and moved across Regions for funsies.

Not in my AU she's not! For 2 reasons-

For 1, my AU is built from Mario games and media I personally know/am familiar with. I know a little bit about Mario sunshine and saw a comic where Delfino island was Daisy's vacation island. So I took that info and crafted it into my AU lore! My Daisy's kingdom is populated by Delfino's, and it sits along the coast nearby the Mushroom Kingdom.

The other reason is I only heard of what Sarasaland was like two days ago. I've never played any of the games its from and had no idea it existed. So I didn't add it to my AU and I definitely cant add it now-

But even if I did, I'd have the same problem. Why is Daisy the ruler of these little.. dancing.. skeleton.. guys..?? If she isn't one of them?

AAA THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :DD And yeah, that was Wendy and Roy! Though her exact reasoning for crying hasn't been fully thought out yet. I was thinking that she was having trouble putting on her make-up and ribbons.. maybe that was something the Koopalings mom would help her with before she.. well.. :( (Also, I do intend to finish/expand on that comic/idea very soon! :}} )

As for Iggy and Lemmy, they're not twins in my AU! Though they are close, they are very apart in age. I don't know what "older lore" you're talking about.. if you're referring to a game or a show, I have never seen it. :( All the Koopalings personalities and dynamics are just going to be made up/decided by me :)

As for their closeness, what brings them together is their eyes and their love for magic/Kamek.

I had this idea that Iggy was born blind, and Lemmy was born with a lazy eye/cross eyed. Kamek was able to use his magic to restore a fair bit of Iggy's sight and reposition Lemmy's eye. The result is their eyes and faces have unusual colors and patterns.. but they can see! And they are very thankful to Kamek for that.

Also that exposure to magic at such a young age has really drawn them into it.. they're both supposed to be really interested in magic and learning how to use it. Thus their closeness with each other and Kamek!

As for Luigi and the Poltergust, he doesn't ever get that. Since Mario is never captured by the Boos, why would he need it? And I haven't decided what to do with E.Gadd yet, if anything at all..

As for Mario and Bowser.. I was thinking that Mario kind'a just said that in the heat of the moment. But he would be willing to take him down permamntly if he ever showed his face again.. but right now Bowser is definitely not causing any more problems for a while.

Mario and Luigi scared the daylights outa him. The hero's of Legend are real, and they're here. Bowser is probably scrambling for means of defense atm and wouldn't dare send anyone over there to cause trouble.

As for the Chain Chomp.. even if Bowser wanted to release it and wreak havoc on the bros/the mushroom kingdom.. I don't think he could. Kamek was unable to control Petey Piranha and rein him back in when he escaped. What make's him think they'll have any control over the Chain Chomp if they release it? It'll probably just turn around and eat Bowser's castle instead- and once its out, how will they trap it again?

And oh yeah, they could beat it. All they'd need is 1 super star and the Chain Chomp would be flattened in a matter of seconds. ⭐💪

Sometimes I have random plot thoughts on stories that I like reading or am writing and I just wanna talk about a few that keep squirming around in my mind.

Tachophobia AU: Random Idea... In an attempt to stop his friends from reverting Niko back to Sonic, Starline secretly takes them into the facility and starts manipulating them in similar but also different ways. They could interact if he wanted, but it'd be a "Psych Ward" situation.

Imprisonment/Cybernetic AU: I have done a lot of messed up shit to characters before, and this isn't any different. Just look at my Cybernetic AU because jeez Issue 4 went hard on Sonic's trauma. It was actually my favorite to write and draw. I also got all of the work done in FOUR DAYS. (strange record. Was going to see a friend soon and I cranked out 11 pages and finished right before midnight the day before)

I actually wing a ton of my writing, and many plots don't get off the ground unfortunately because of it. So to shoutout some of those abandoned comics... "Not So Different" (A short mini between Canon!Shadow and Cybernetic!Sonic bc I noticed how similar they were), that one mlp x sonic pony comic I only got one page done for and don't have a name for, another mlp x sonic crossover comic featuring the Paradox Prism I only got to the cover art for, and that Imprisonment AU comic I completely forgot about and... Unfortunately abandoned but idk might come back to it.

Shadow Prime AU: I've always wanted to make a comic adaptation of the fic, and I might come around to it eventually once I decide what I wanna do. The main issue is the art style... Do I want it fully colored, black and white, or selective coloring? Not too sure but I'm kinda leaning on fully colored. But I still gotta finish Cybernetic but it's on hiatus due to burnout.

Sonic Cybernetic AU: I've actually wished for a game adaptation of the comic. Or at least... Working models people could use for other games to add them. I just think that'd be neat, but I can't code or model for anything.

Sometimes I accidentally enforce personal headcanons or personal experience to my writing... This happened recently with the "Rollercoaster" fic from the Tachophobia AU (reminder: I just like it. I did not create it. That belongs to @boom-fanfic-a-latta and @the-sky-queen.) Because I unintentionally drew from my own experiences from an amusement park. Although they were exaggerated a bit, they're still oddly close to my original memories. When I was younger, I liked going to the County Fair, and for the longest time I hated fast rides. I'd always panic on them, and my favorite ride was this caterpillar one (it was also slow paced and kinda bumpy). And Niko's experience, albeit shifted to be more like his character, was exactly how I felt on my first fast ride... Absolutely fucking terrified. I also sometimes have a nervous stammer and suffer from anxiety issues, so... I might've unintentionally written Niko to feel similarly to me at amusement parks when I was younger.

Anyway, just some random stuff, wanted to info-dump too. Cool? Okay, bye!

Name: Koale Hypaethral “A.K.A. Discorded/Dracon” (Armadillo Lizard)

DoB: February 11, 2751. Aquarius (Age: 22)

Nationality: American

Relatives: Aprina (Mother), Flint (Absent Father), Elio (Pangolin/Uncle)

Personality: Calm, mature, and clear-headed. Sort of sloppy and careless. Can be in moods of depression.

Appearance: He has a slim brown-scaled body with some muscle showing and a tattoo on the right side of his chest. Like his species, his body is covered with spikes and he has a spikey long tail.

Outfits: 

(Casual Outfit): He wears bohemian-styled clothes which mainly consist of a beanie, a shawl, sunglasses, a white long-sleeve pocket tee, and gray jeans with ripped sides, all of which have holes because of his spikes. He sometimes wears sandals.

(Hero Outfit): His clothes have a medieval look to them. They consist of a gray high-neck sleeveless top with purple patterns, black torn jeans, and Roman sandals under a blue cloak. The color of his scales changes into a mix of light blue & silver. 

Powers/Skills:

[Greatest Hit]: Koale can create music powerful enough to use for many attacks.

[Encore]: Koale can gain different abilities by listening to or playing different kinds of music.

Types of music and their effects:

Any intense or loud music (e.g. Rock, Metal, Pop, Punk) would be considered an attack.

Any music that sounds calming or quiet (e.g. Acoustic, Country, Blues) would be considered supportive.

Weapons: He carries his electric harp-like guitar named Crescendo which can sound like both an acoustic and electric guitar. He uses a chipped piece of the meteor to play Crescendo like a guitar pick. 

Other info:

He was born with Plum-ombre eyes.

His voice became scratchy from his habit of vaping. 

He can impressively pull off rocker’s growls & screams.

He’s attracted to anyone (Pansexual) & crushes very easily.

Similar to his species, Koale can bite on their tail.

He joins Top Voices Got Talent, a TV Music Competition so that he can get his life back together.

Koale always had an unusual knack for composing music. Whenever he performed music, the most astonishing sounds would overflow his listener's heads. It was marvelous. So much so that he got contacted by music producers promising him money and a wealthy lifestyle. The first thing he did after graduating was to work under their terms. The musician named Discorded was born, as he created music under the company’s name.

What Koale didn’t know was that he was making less money than they intended for him. The company was secretly taking a percentage off of his salary. Koale wasn’t keeping track of his money for his equipment, outfits, and the backstage passes he got… to add more salt to the wound.

Eventually, the producers cut all deals from him and made him broke. Almost all of his deals from the studio were given to someone else because they had “more talent and money.” When news about his partnership spread, everyone that he knew left him. So you could say that he lost everything. His house, money, friends, family, and career were all gone.

As soon as Discorded vanished from the world, so did he. Koale had decided to drive from his home state to Oregon to cover his shame. He could make it through by busking with a guitar he still had. He still played music, but it just wasn’t the same.

I received this amazing question on my elf-Tav x Astarion reincarnation story (shameless plug): Do only elves reincarnate? Or is elf-Tav only due to them being the only ones to trance and see their past lives?

Let me tell you, I've spent way too much time thinking about and looking up scraps about D&D reincarnation so please enjoy my info-dump answer below 👇

Thank you so much for asking :D The short answer is: yes, elves reincarnate canonically because of some reasons (that may or may not still be lore accurate in all versions of D&D). If you don't mind me nerding out a bit keep reading!

So from my understanding, they introduced the concept of the "Reverie" for elves in D&D 2nd edition-- where elves recall their past lives. They never explicitly call it reincarnation, but definitely imply that the elven "soul" persists. In later editions of D&D, elves are said to have a limited pool of souls, so when they die, their souls essentially enter a waiting period in Arvandor (the realm of the Seldarine, the elf gods) until they have a new elf body to inhabit, and Corellon (elf god) sends them on their merry way to live a new life.

Some interesting snippets about the process from a source book (note: MToF was removed from the lore last year but I still think it's neat):

"What an elf remembers during this reverie depends largely on how long the elf has lived, and the events of the lives that the elf’s soul has experienced before."

"Each birth represents an elf soul that has been to Arvandor and returned. Mortal elves cannot know if it is the soul of someone recently dead or someone who died millennia ago. They cannot even be certain it is an elf of the same world. "

That being said, the concept of souls is true of all races! You can be reincarnated if you're not an elf, but that goes against the lifecycle for most races. They die, go to The Fugue Plane, get judged, and sent to different planes depending on how they're judged (the Outer planes, easy to think of them as just levels of heaven/hell). Unless they sold their soul, as you might expect haha.

There are some spells that can affect this! Reincarnate, a 5th level spell, can bring someone back into a new body if they haven't been dead more than 10 days, Resurrection, a 7th level spell can bring someone back who's been dead up to 100 years if their soul is free and willing, and True Resurrection, a 9th level spell, can bring someone back who's been dead for up to 200 years if their soul is free and willing. All of these souls are 1k gold to 25k gold worth of components to cast, so they're not really feasible for anyone who isn't a high level adventurer (with a LOT of diamonds specifically). So basically, other races don't tend to reincarnate. Elves will reincarnate *eventually*, I'd like to think that Tav pushed their way to the front of the line. :D

Disclaimer: this only works with non-Drow elves, since Lolth picked a whole big fight with the Seldarine.

To add on from my own personal D&D experience on why I picked this way to tell the reincarnation:

You can never find enough diamonds for all of the healing you want to do.

Some souls can be surprisingly "unwilling" even if you do have the means to bring them back.

Dying is not considered all that bad for elves because of the way this cycle goes.

I think this is more angsty for Tav x Astarion hehe

Full name is Audrey Deere (heheh)

He is 4'7 feet tall!

He's truly a sweetheart! Though being a half-demon sometimes less than savory intentions or urges crop up.

He's a faun! Top half boy bottom half little deer! :]

He lives with his mom in the woods near a small village.

His timeline is set in midevil times! So there will definitely be talks of witchhunting & audrey being scared of christian persecution.

Magic IS a thing aside from Audrey in his timeline but it is seen as very taboo and rare. It is often vilified and persecuted.

Please be aware though that not everything will be 100% accurate. I try to do my research but inevitably I will just decide that things happen there which didn't exist in the real world.

The way he pops into blogs is with a little power of his, he can create little uncontrolled portals when he wishes to explore! Uncontrolled meaning they don't always lead to where he wanted or expected them to!

As i can't really get nice colored pictures atm I'll put it here; Audrey has fluffy long brownish red hair, same as his fur! His eyes are a bright golden orange with a hint of blue when the light hits it right. & His skin is a darkish tan with a slight reddish hue (mostly in his cheeks and the blushing of his arms and torso!)

Introductory Post

Hello and greetings, my name is Indigo, I'm a traveling artist. I grew up on the outskirts of Driftveil City in Unova. I am not a competitive battler, and haven't done any gym challenges due to my own health issues. I do however, have five Pokemon of my own. Some information on myself as well, I suppose. I use he/they pronouns and identify as demisexual. I am trans. I'm 22, my birthday is the 13th of November. I find myself most drawn to Dark, Ghost, Psychic, and Fairy types, so I suppose those are my type specialties.

However, due to that sheltering and his own travels, he's pretty out of the loop on any major events that occurred - add in the multiversal nature of Rotomblr/Rotumblr, well... Daisy Kestrel: Pronouns - They/them, it/its Appearance - Medium-length brown hair, usually kept in a ponytail; blue-green eyes; freckled, golden skin with warm undertones; lean, somewhat muscular build. typically wears clothes made of breathable-yet-sturdy materials, in case they need to flee a scene or go into more nature-overrun areas (like Lud's Holm). Occupation - Field Journalist Likes - their job; going to the Reform Club; hot showers; nature; magic Dislikes - Bobbies; Joy Doctors; the government; violence; liars; not being taken seriously Additional Info - They have spent countless hours of their time dedicated solely to ensuring people can get their stories told and truths can be revealed. It has bravely gone into dangerous areas, such as areas where plague is prevalent, to get the information it needs. It sends out reports mostly anonymously in regards to topics that could get them hurt or banished (for example, things the Wellington Wells' officials have lied about). They secretly stopped taking their Joy one day because they hated forgetting the information they needed to remember for their job. (fun fact: they're inspired an old MLP OC of mine lmao)

“Dr” Marten Pines: Pronouns – he/him, it/its Appearance – messy brown hair; a brown right eye (he is missing his left eye); light-brown skin with a lighter patch on his nose; almost scrawny build. usually wears his hand-made flower-dyed raincoat, rain boots, and gloves. Occupation – Self-Appointed Doctor of the Garden District Likes – Roses of Gilead; helping people; collecting items- especially plants; pine martens and other weasel/ferret-like creatures; books Dislikes – his mental illnesses; being asked about his missing eye; being disbelieved Additional Info – His delusions cause him to believe he is a Doctor and also part pine marten- thus his typical drawn depiction gives him ghostlike/translucent marten ears and tail. Nobody alive knows how he lost his eye, and he dislikes being asked about what happened. He has fluctuating trust issues, in that he has people he can trust, but if someone new is introduced into a situation he becomes anxious. He likes to help people whether he knows them or not, however.

Okiiii I have some further thoughts about the lore added in Kirby and the Forgotten Land! Like, I wanna have a quick discussion because I feel like we may have some new info lol

WARNING: MAJOR story bits included down below! I'm losing my mind here, so I will be talking about the plot, ESPECIALLY having to do with later sections of the game, so be warned!

So, here are some of the conclusions I've come to since beating the game. Feel free to add on as you please, I'm just speculating here, trying to get a full picture of what we know now. I totally could've come to the wrong conclusions about some things though lmao

Judging by the fact that Fecto Elfilis and their capture led to the creation of Warp technology, does this mean that Fecto is the source of the Ancients' tech? I mean, the star-shaped portals are confirmed to have originated from Fecto, and the Lor Starcutter kinda creates similar ones. Using their tech, the Ancients probably figured out a way to make these portals more clean and aesthetic rather than all rugged and unstable, so...

Are the Ancients the ones who abandoned this land? Lab Discovera was pretty high-tech for its time (enough to contain a literal god, which we know thanks to Star Allies is something the Ancients are no stranger to), and since they left via warp tech, do we finally have a source planet?

Did the Ancients separate into different groups upon leaving the Forgotten Land? I think that some left to Halcandra to rebuild there, some got obviously banished elsewhere (Hyness and his cult), and some possibly landed on Shiver Star, since that place has similar world building to what we see in this game.

This is probably going to be more of a hot take, but, possibly, is Fecto Elifis one of the original heroes that sealed away Void Termina? Hear me out for this one. Bc one of Fecto's titles is along the lines of "species born from chaos" and Void is known as the "essence of chaos," it can already be speculated that Fecto is a product of Void (especially considering their later color scheme). Since they know well-enough what Void is (and possibly Kirby too later on, maybe Void creations can sense another of their kind) perhaps they joined together with Galacta Knight and the others for more personal gains. They helped to seal Void away, then decided to travel across the galaxy to make themselves known due to their own power. Maybe they even wanted to take Void's status as a god, since Void was the only one more powerful than them. We can now guess that each of these powerful warriors may have lost their minds and become new threats after Void's sealing, so I don't think it's too outlandish to assume this lol. Plus, we now know that Morpho Knight is drawn to these individuals with immense power that had to be contained. Who's to say that Fecto isn't one of them? Maybe because of what they did to Void, Morpho came back to collect them and give them judgement as one of Void's angels?

Bc of the above, I'd like to suggest that Galacta was one of the first of the four warriors to be captured and sealed off for his strength. Fecto escaped and went elsewhere, but the Ancients eventually corned them upon their planet as they went to take care of the only individuals who could even manage to stand in their way. The Ancients obviously won that battle, and took Fecto (knowing what they could do thanks to their assistance in destroying Void) and used their abilities for their own gain. This might be a more headcanony explanation of things, but I like it lol.

As suggested before, Morpho Knight isn't just going around to absorb random strong beings in order to fight Kirby. Morpho Knight is going around specifically to collect the warriors who sealed Void. Perhaps they're doing this to appease the Void who wanted destruction, or maybe something else? Like (HC time, be warned lmao) what if Void was the source of all the warriors (during a time when Void was reincarnated with negative energy), but, in order to be free of Void's command, they worked with the Ancients to contain Void? What if Morpho Knight is another creation of Void, and wants the same freedom? What if they're absorbing the others and casting judgement upon them based on how much power they offer against another creation of Void's? Or what if they're just Void's angel who's going around casting judgement upon those who wronged Void? Idk, I'm probably missing something. Probably entirely wrong too lol

Anyways, that's what I'm thinking rn! Feel free to discuss things, I'm looking back at the lore of the series and desperately trying to connect the new stuff to the older stuff lol, I don't think I'm the only one haha

oh my GOODNESS your kitty has THUMBS that's so cute. also, completely unrelated but i remembered i wanted to ask a question to someone who knows bones -- my partner recently got a tooth removed and it has some red in the roots. we were wondering if this is something they'd need to clean somehow if they wanted to keep it? i'm not super familiar with cleaning/keeping teeth, hopefully this isn't a dumb question! ty so much for all you do & all the info you share <3

Hi! Yeah, Morton is pretty much just a man trapped in a cat body, he utilizes his little cat thumbs for evil and only evil.

As far as the tooth goes, the red inside is residual pulp that is inside of the roots of teeth! When you look at a split canine for example, there's a channel within that holds the pulp. You can leave it alone if you'd like, it will eventually dry up when the tooth does, but it may still be slightly discolored.

You could try using some store bought peroxide to whiten the tooth, which should also whiten/oxidize the pulp so It'll no longer have the color. Just keep a very close eye on the tooth so it doesn't start to crack while it's in there. I would only do an hour or so to begin with. Dealing with human teeth would give me more worry than an animals tooth just for the sake of keeping it as perfect as possible. Drying and rehydrating teeth multiple times can cause the cracking.

But if you'd like, its safe to leave as it! I'd give it a nice rinse off with some soap and a rag/old toothbrush just to clean it regardless (I've dropped many teeth down the drain so be sure to block it lol).

If it were me, I'd probably just opt to leave it be and put it somewhere cool and dry. I haven't worked with human teeth before, so I am more cautious about it.

I’d match you with Wanda and Vision. (Happy to meet another polyamorous person) You and Wanda meet first. She was looking into tarot reading, not having a ton of information on them, and contacted you for help. She grew to be very close to vision and then you. She felt torn between the two of you. Vision was introduced to you by Wanda a year or so before end game. Vision was actually the first to suggest a polyamorous relationship after learning about it alone. Wanda agreed and the two approached you. Unfortunately, Wanda and Vision didn’t get to spend a long time with you before he died. Wanda was crushed and held on to you as tight as she could, becoming very overprotective, not wanting to lose you too. She couldn’t let that happen. She spent her time indoors and read with you. She and you used tarot cards to try and communicate to Vision with little success. Eventually, she slightly loosens up and lets you go out more but she still stayed inside, distraught over Visions death. Wanda loves your brother and finds him very kind and sweet. He reminds her of her twin and it makes her feel slightly better knowing there are still people like him in the world.

❁ Intro. Q&A with S&C ❁

❁ What is your favorite type of movement?

S: I struggled with movement for a long time. Exercise was categorized as a chore in my brain growing up. I had parents who LOVED running, yet running always made me feel like I was dying. I discovered yoga in late high school. Last year, I completely fell in love with a studio that incorporates HIIT, core, and heat to create a dynamic workout. I'm obsessed! It's my therapy, workout, community, and whole heart in one. I also love that yoga is a competition against yourself - constantly bettering your own practice, rather than focused on competition against others.

C: Growing up I was always active and involved in sports like basketball and track. I’ve ALWAYS hated the running aspect, but every now and then I’ll go for a jog outside if it’s nice out. Now that I get to choose my workouts, I enjoy a combination of lifting, yoga, and HIIT workouts. My workout split typically looks like 4 days of lifting and HIIT and 1-2 days of yoga. On rest days, I always start my mornings with a short yoga flow or light stretching. I also enjoy the hot yoga classes that S talked about above! Hot yoga is what brought us together :).

❁ What is your favorite way to de-stress?

S: Oh god. Anything alone. Seriously. I am extroverted until I hit my limit and once I hit that limit it is a hard crash. I recently moved to a really friendly neighborhood and have loved riding my bike to the library, curling up in my hammock, and reading a great book while listening to some instrumental tunes. 

C: So many different ways! As a social worker, in order to be effective, I have to be on top of my self-care at all times. Journaling, meditation, yoga, reading, walking, and playing with my dogs and cats are some of my favorite ways to de-stress. I also find that using ear seeds helps when I’m experiencing high levels of stress or anxiety. Stay tuned for more ear seed info. in later blog posts!

❁ What is your favorite self-care strategy?

S: I need to be organized. I like knowing what food I'm going to eat the next day, having everything written out and color-coded in my planner, etc. I do really well when everything is put in its place and prepped for the next day - to a fault. I tend to deal with my high maintenance personality with obsessive organization because it is the type of self-care that directly combats my ADHD brain and keeps me functioning.

C: In addition to the ways that I de-stress above, I find a sense of calm in my weekly routine. At the beginning of the week, I enjoy cooking and meal prepping lunches for work, cleaning, and journaling my goals and intentions for the week. I have a Panda Planner that I like to use to stay organized. I also feel my best when I’m taking care of myself (i.e. focusing on eating well, being active, and maintaining my beauty/skincare routine).

❁ What are your health passions?

S: I have been on and off vegan for 6 years. I decided to start it back up at the beginning of this year, and 99% of the time I follow veganism. That's a HUGE passion of mine. I also recently started cycle syncing and I can't shut up about it!! I'm so excited to see what benefits it will provide. I'm a RYT200 yoga teacher with certifications in trauma-informed, children's, and teen yoga - I'm particularly passionate about incorporating vulnerability and mental health aspects into my practice. Lastly, I struggle with physical health (Endometriosis diagnosis) and mental health (GAD - Generalized Anxiety Disorder & ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder diagnosis), this has been a huge journey for me over the past two years. I am currently at a point where I manage these diagnoses really well naturally and it's important to me.

C: GUT HEALTH, GUT HEALTH, GUT HEALTH! That is what inspired the name for this blog! I find that my gut health impacts my skin, moods, weight, energy level, and my overall well-being. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and IBD in 2016 and have been focused on healing myself with a combination of Western Medicine-based medication, nutrition and journaling food sensitivities, vitamin supplements, movement, and strategies to improve my mental health. Don’t get me wrong - I’m very passionate about mental health in general as I’m a practicing therapist, however, I tend to get burnt out on focusing on mental health only as it is often difficult for my consumers to incorporate a holistic approach. I am also passionate about movement and working on my fitness, as Fergie would say. There’s something uplifting about accomplishing a new fitness goal whether it’s increasing my weights in lifting or holding a headstand in yoga (still working on that one lol).

❁ What led you to wholistic wellness?

S: I had parents who made a huge lifestyle change right after my freshman year of high school. As a family, we went vegan cold turkey (or is it cold tofurkey? pls laugh) and my Mom poured her heart and soul into researching natural alternatives. I have had my own battle with balancing traditional medicine with more holistic results. I very strongly believe in wholistic approaches - I'm not against medication by any means, but I believe it's so so important to treat the whole person and that there is no "one size fits all" approach.

C: Growing up, I didn’t think there was anything particularly “unhealthy” about my lifestyle, but reflecting back as an adult, I can definitely say that we were not a household that was focused on optimal nutrition. We drank gallons of milk and Sunny D and ate maybe a serving of canned vegetables per day. We were active, so no one in my family was overweight, but I think my parents were just raising us on foods that they grew up on (that and canning became all the rage in the 90’s). I would say that I became passionate about holistic approaches to my health shortly after I was diagnosed with Crohn’s and was trying to learn to manage my symptoms. I had a lot of inflammation in 2016 and was prescribed a low dosage of steroids until my doctor prescribed immunosuppressants to keep my immune system from attacking my colon. I began focusing on more holistic approaches when I noticed that medication alone wasn’t making me feel 100%. Sure, it stopped my active inflammation, however, I was still struggling with stomach cramping, diarrhea, and chronic fatigue. About 1 year after I was diagnosed, my husband and I moved to a larger area where I had access to more specialized medical providers. My new gastroenterologist (GI) referred me to a nutritionist who helped me to learn to identify my food sensitivities. She also referred me to a behavioral health psychologist who provided me with an outlet for my stress and anxiety. I began to learn that I was holding chronic tension in my stomach whenever I was stressed or anxious about something. That’s when I began to understand the importance of holistic health.

❁ What kind of posts can I expect to see on this blog?

S: I'm really excited to talk about managing mental health naturally (particularly anxiety), possible book recommendations, self-care, and healthy meal prepping while on a broke college student’s budget.

C: I look forward to sharing my personal experiences with navigating my chronic health issues, nutrition, FODMAPs, gut health, mental health, the gut-brain connection, fitness/movement, and self-care.

❁ Why social work?

S: It's nice to not have this question followed up by "you know you'd make much more money as _______. Is it too late to change your major?" But for real. I started college as a special education major, quickly realized I'd rather do pretty much anything other than write lesson plans, and switched to being a WGST major. I expected to be able to get a job doing advocacy work with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ & women issues. I soon realized the WGST track is for students who eventually want to do research and social work was more what I was looking for. I never looked back. The multiple directions a social work degree can be taken in, the continually changing cases, the advocacy, vulnerability, and seeking justice for people all capture my heart. 

C: I have always been passionate about having a career centered around helping people. I became interested in therapy after having a particularly negative experience with a therapist that my dad sent me to when I was getting caught in the middle of my parent’s divorce and I experienced some trauma. I originally pursued psychology, however, fell into social work when I figured out that there are so many different opportunities available for MSWs.  I truly love my job and feel grateful to be compensated (FYI times have changed and not all social workers make next to nothing - thank the universe) for serving the children and families on my caseload
