Branded Pairing Heteronormativity and the Subtle ways that First and Khaotung Spill Outside Those Outlines

Right off the bat I'm going to absolve myself of all culpability by saying that this is a solicited opinion so all anon hate can go to @kattyangel 🤣. The second thing is that this is an opinion that will talk about very nuanced subjective topics like heteronormative standards and conventional attractiveness in a country I'm not even from so go into it knowing that even subtle shifts in worldview can change the way we perceive these things. My only claim to fame here is that fan service is my hyperfixation and I have watched at least couples compilation videos of all GMM branded pairs but for the vast majority of them have watched shows/vlogs/interviews fairly extensively. So without any further ado let's get into what the connection is between First's height and his pairing's inability to perform heteronormativity well. A branded pair has two main ways of connecting to heteronormativity. One is via the individual's connection to their audience which at this point we know is majority female with some degree of romantic interest in men. Second, is via the dynamics of the couple itself.

For example, the ideal pairing is someone who's individual unit BOTH seem like they are interested in women but when put together can also believably fall into a 'top' and 'bottom' role. The categories of 'top' and 'bottom' here follow from the yaoi 'seme' and 'uke' narrative traditions but its less about who penetrates or is being penetrated and more along the lines of who's 'the wife and who's the husband' which is just a confusing mix of relative closeness to femininity, perceived dominance and certain physical features like height/resting bitch face and skin color.

The vast majority of branded pairs fall under this paradigm at GMM: GeminiFourth, TayNew, BrightWin, JoongDunk, PondPhuwin, ForceBook and the recently officially divorced Ohmnanon.

If the individuals have a strong connection to heteronormativity themselves, but fail to perform it with each other then they tend to fail like PerthChimon. So what happens when individuals within the unit aren't that straight to begin with? If at least one can perform traditional masculinity then they're in the clear! Famously, OffGun are husband and wife like no other and I hope they and Off's voodoo dolls of him and Gun prosper for the length of their lives. This format of pairings is not that common in GMM but litter the industry quite a bit, Zeenunew and MaxNat are pairings I'm quite familiar with that follow this.

What happens when both have low affinity towards traditional masculinity (especially in the way they interact with fans) or they're a little too queer in their dynamic for heteronormativity? Well that leaves you with *my* favorite pairings: EarthMix and FirstKhaotung But they're challenged in slightly different ways. EarthMix's primary dilemma comes from the fact that they're very likely actually dating and gay couples sometimes just won't have a heteronormative dynamic. Mix has always rebelled against being 'bottom' and he's usually the one refusing to play this game. Earth on the other hand just with his natural old man tendencies still fits into the top/husband role well while Mix can be pigeonholed into bratty wife/bottom when push comes to shove. But oh my poor sweet First, born with the personality of a man who's at least 5 inches shorter than him and obsessed with his idiot best friend who hated being the good little wife during his PoddKhao era so much that he really came into Firstkhao with his arms swinging like 'never again'. First and Khaotung have their personalities and aesthetics switched. Khaotung is both the more effeminate of the two and also the more dominant. If you've been following their dynamic since The Eclipse then you will know immediately what I'm talking about. So much of The Eclipse fan service felt like they were playing out top and bottom in reverse and then just remembering that First is indeed Too Tall for this to ever work lmao. I'm struggling to think of a single pair other than PerthSaint where the top was shorter let alone a full 4 inches. I mean fans nearly staged a coup at an event to have them renamed Khaofirst and I feel like they had come so close to convincing First too 😂 They've changed a lot now and Khaotung has cooled it, maybe to be more helpful to First but primarily because I think he's discovered that being the bottom in this dynamic comes with added benefits of being a sugar baby princess who gets waited on hand and foot. But First is also a sugar baby princess which is why he says things like 'I'm trying to be cool' or doing something macho and then immediately undercutting himself with a nervous little 'Was that cool?' or whining at fans to stop flirting with Khaotung instead of having a possessive lover dialogue like Phuwin's little 'you can flirt with him but he needs my permission to flirt with you'. First is performing machismo slightly worse than the 'bottom' of a different pair like what can I say askdjkfhdjh

Firstkhao are doing husband and wife well on stage nowadays but I think in less practiced formats they will revert to their original dynamic and First's 'top' persona breaks often. They hit a besotted wifeman equilibrium for First sometime during only friends and that kind of works for them both and I think they're trying to stay there for the most part. But that's what people who like First and Khaotung like. A vast majority of lesbians fall under the category of besotted wifeman so I mean it's really working out for me. It's just that sometimes it's a little painful seeing First try so hard to be more like Kant in RL and I'm just like babygirl please you're fine your friend over there looks like he likes getting fucked in the ass no matter what you do but alas 😔 Meanwhile every time Khaotung acts like a naive little helpless baby it feels like he's taken another step towards nirvana.

You could’ve also been judged so harshly and unfairly, to a point where you became overly critical of even the smallest things about yourself. In your mind, there was this bullshit panopticon that was always policing your conducts, even your mind! In some sense, you could’ve struggled with having a ‘good girl syndrome’ kind of problem tsk tsk… Yeah, that’s all in the past though. This reading is literally just giving you validation and clarity ^-^v I promise you that your happy days are impenetrable now~♪

Gonna barf some random thoughts on my elemental paradigm.

Air is west, Water is north, Earth is east, Fire is south.

Air and Water are best friends, Earth and Fire are best friends; Air and Earth are opposites, Water and Fire are opposites; Air and Fire are on speaking terms, Water and Earth are on speaking terms.

The Sun is strongest during the summer months because it's in the south, the Fire zone, while it's still strong yet not as present in the winter because it's in the Water zone of the north. Earth coaxes it into the sky in the east in the morning because Earth and Fire are friends, while Air gently lowers it because while Fire is opposite of its bestie Water, Air and Fire are still on speaking terms.

The Moon, however, does not fucking care about this elemental pettiness. The Moon is busy with its own cycle and draws partially on the Sun when waxing or full, but it doesn't need any of these fools, as seen by the fact that the Moon still has its own power when waning or new, even though the power is different from the Sun-derived waxing and full power.

I'm still figuring out where eclipses work in this.

I'm once again kicking at the elements in my paradigm and figuring out what's what, but I figured I'd throw this out so the rest of you can see what kind of fucking mess I'm working in.

Ra (Egyptian God) Talon Abraxas

Ra (also given as Re) is the sun god of ancient Egypt. He is one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon and was later merged with others such as Horus, becoming Ra-Horakhty (the morning sun), Amun (as noonday sun), and Atum (the evening sun) associated with primal life-giving energy.

Ra is the Egyptian word for ‘sun’. As a solar deity, Ra embodied the power of the sun but was also thought to be the sun itself, envisioned as the great god riding in his barge across the heavens throughout the day and descending into the underworld at sunset. As he made his way through the darkness beneath the earth, he was attacked nightly by the giant serpent Apophis (also known as Apep) who tried to prevent the sun from rising and so destroy all life on earth.

According to scholar Richard H. Wilkinson, Ra is “arguably Egypt’s most important deity” not only because of his association with the life-giving sun but also through his influence on the development of later gods (205). Amun, who would become so popular that his cult was almost monotheistic in devotion and the most powerful in ancient Egypt, developed from Ra and shares much of his mythology. Horus, who was associated with the living king, followed this same paradigm as Ra was known as “king and father of the king”. He was also associated with the creator god Atum and the two deities’ names are used interchangeably in some versions of the creation myths.

This course of study is suggested for this deity more so than others because of the scope of his powers, the important part he played in Egyptian religion, and his long history. Worship of Ra was already established by the time of the Old Kingdom of Egypt (c. 2613-2181 BCE) and continued for almost 2,000 years until, like the other Egyptian gods, he was eclipsed by Christianity.

2025 Pisces Crescent Moon

The key phrase for the Crescent lunar phase is “gather and mobilize resources.”

A trippy one, all right - as I (try to) write this, approximately 72 hours before maturation, I am feeling it already. The Moon in this chart is technically void of course, but when she’s in the sign Pisces (and not adversely aspected) we can just carry on and ignore that.

Moon conjunct Venus conjunct Neptune conjunct North Node, all in the tiny sliver of Zodiac between 28°-29° Pisces. “Trippy” is the right word, to be sure. Pisces resources aren’t remotely like other signs’ resources. Fog? Daydreams? Seeing things that aren’t there? Not seeing things that are there?

Something to remember, to (try to) ground ourselves in, is that Venus has entered her pre-retrograde shadow. Whatever this phase invokes, we’re going to revisit - in fact, on March 28 we’re going to revisit the same quadruple conjunction of Moon, Venus, Neptune, and the North Node. Except it’ll be the Balsamic phase - by that time, Saturn will be close enough to the action to be included - Mercury Rx too - and, there’s a solar eclipse on March 29.

And the next day, transiting Neptune enters Aries. (Not to stay, this time, it’s just dipping in a toe, but still.)

In other words, this measly-seeming Crescent Moon has the potential for dissolving all our assumptions, presumptions, and so forth. This is such a huge shift; I can’t seem to emphasize enough (or even begin to wrap my own head around) just how profound “things” are going to get.

Wherever our heads seem to be wandering - me, I’m apparently calculating how many wrong trees I can bark up, at one time - there are our resources. Sort of. It’s maybe not so much the actual things, as the feelings they evoke. Terror, exasperation, wonder, bliss, confusion, boredom. Is there an overall theme? What is it trying to tell you? Do you need to let go of it, or do you need to surrender to it?

Or maybe - quoting myself again - there is “something wonderful you don’t dare believe could be meant for you.”

Perhaps out of the various shards of imaginative impressions, we can piece together a new paradigm to shift ourselves into. I don’t think it’s going to be remotely an instant process - maybe incomplete until the final Venus-Neptune conjunction (May 2, at 1°09’ Aries); maybe not even complete until February 20, 2026, at the one and only Saturn-Neptune conjunction this go-round (0°45’ Aries).

The upcoming First Quarter lunar phase - Wednesday, February 5, 08:02 UTC, 16°46’ Taurus (ruled by Venus) - may give us opportunities to “ground” ourselves in what this Crescent phase summons forth.

What If I made a Smash Bros game?

Super Smash Brothers Is a game that is predicated on players pitting their favorite characters from their favorite games and media against each other.

Injustice being the most obvious example to older Millennials. (Who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman?)

Or superman and the Hulk?

And Super Smash Bros is no different, just limited to Nintendo hardware.

With this in Mind; SSB would have to be the kind of game that is released with a console generation. (In the possibility of consoles biting the dust and mobile taking over; a game generation would be rebooted every few years, as the younger generation graduates highschool/college and joins the workforce.)

but, in the case of mobile handheld gaming becoming the dominant playstyle; SSB would need to be a launch title. It would need to have the main characters from Nintendo's top titles. (This is in the circumstance that other Franchises eclipse the current long-standing Nintendo titles for launch.)

Currently, this is the Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon paradigm of *main characters*. But dependent on Nintendo and what they decide is a *main launch title* other characters should be included.

Certain *hidden characters* that is; Secret characters that are from Future Games that are kept under wraps (for whatever reasons) should be unlockable. Which would add to the mystique of the characters that are awaiting launch and give hints to players as to what the future games *might* entail.

If I were to use an example; let's say that a future Zelda or Metroid game isn't a launch title because Nintendo decides that it would be prudent to have certain titles as a kind of *Summer Blockbuster* release. Like Avengers, or James Bond, or whatever. Then the character from the future release would help to pave the way to player expectations and excitement for the *not-yet-announced game.*

Nintendo would also be able add content and secret unlockables as the life of the current generation proceeds, which would help keep the game fresh and enticing for players who have not yet purchased it.

SSB would also be able to collab with other titles when they release. They could have pre-order packs (DLC) that include characters, adventures, tie-ins, and stages which would encourage SSB players to play the new games and vice-versa.

SSB could also develop DLC packs for SSB for the same purpose that are purchaseable separately. I'm effect; they would be stand alone SSB titles that interact with the larger SSB server system.

So players wouldn't have to buy both the main title AND the DLC, it'd integrate itself.

DLC could include "Classic Fighter Packs" and "Future Promotions" or even collect characters from several indie titles that end up fan favorites, but haven't found their way into SSB yet.

Because of this; SSB launch would be kind of sparse, with most of the more interesting aspects locked behind other releases and Nintendo's launch schedule.

This does two things; It ensures players aren't caught between launch titles. Competitive players, and players who can't afford the new title are often still playing the older release. So this gives players time to save up money, or get comfortable with the idea of switching into the new game.

Obviously; there will still be players that are on the cutting edge. And since they're mostly competitive players, or players who have disposable time or income; their input can be used to mold the base mechanics for the future of the game AND be rewarded for doing so.

Either with play-points, achievements, or early-adoption DLC (which wouldn't be exclusive, it'd just be a freebie for these players.)

The question will eventually rise; Should there be a Forknife style "Battle Royale" in order to try to get players that enjoy that style of game play.

I think that would create unnecessary competition as a direct competitor to these titles--SSB would be at a huge disadvantage AND lose the essence of what makes SSB, SSB.

I believe that mini-games and adventure style levels like were included in older SSB games would be important to give it that core flavor that fans expect from SSB.

It would also be the area that Nintendo really knows best: Side-Scrollers and game-and-watch (or WarioWare) Style mini-games.

This would look like old side scrolling fighter games. Either like Mario; or like Streets of Rage; or similarly styled games.

Which would feature a team of players against waves of enemies, or advancing through a stage and ultimately facing down a Boss Enemy together.

And more of these stages could be included in those DLC packs I mentioned earlier.

So while the core-competition format would still be there (and likely be free-to-play) these team-up games and new characters would be limited to DLC purchases.

This keeps SSB new and fresh for the duration of the generation.

For future-planning; players with access to older content may have capabilities to bring their content forward in the format that would be akin to loot boxes.

That way balancing wouldn't have to be done with characters from older content.

Alternatively ; A "legacy format" could be created which keeps the newest format balanced, but allows players to play against each other with out-dated and non-balanced content.

Which would entice legacy players to keep up with the latest content; but not limit them. It would also create a boundary where the most skilled players would be more likely to play in legacy to further their own skills. Though; it wouldn't prevent them from playing in the *current standard play*

This would keep SSB relevant for years to come *and* allow for expansion into whatever the future brings.

Woukd you like to expand on your eclipse magic vendetta? Is it personal experience, or paradigm based?

Two things!

The first thing is that eclipse energy feels very bizarre and jagged to me. I don't like how it feels.

The second thing was that right at the very beginning of my practice, just after I initiated, I cast a spell using eclipse energy. It ended up going very disastrously, it was my first crash course in emergency magic and spiritual attack, and even though that was over a decade ago, it's just redoubled my discomfort of working with eclipses.

why exactly do you think griffith isn't a problematic character? i'm very interested.

The phrasing of this ask leads me to believe it's not being sent in good faith, but I'm ignoring that and answering anyway.

So, I mean, the easy answer is "because he's a fictional character whose actions or behavior have zero real world impact."

The longer answer is, if you're referring to the colloquial definition of problematic which involves actions or attitudes that are in some way indicative of harmful beliefs, prejudices etc, then there's literally no evidence that he has any of those things. You might be able to make a case for slight sexism based on him telling Casca that sleeping next to Guts is a woman's duty, but other than that he's infamously egalitarian in every area - he accepts anyone regardless of ethnicity, gender, background, etc.

This even carries through to NeoGriffith, who is literally inventing public education, creating pathways to citizenship for refugees, requiring Apostles to behave civilly and stop attacking/killing people, and actively chipping at class distinctions, which he always did, which is why conservative nobles hated him so much.

What people mean when they say Griffith is problematic is generally that they're mad at him about the Eclipse and specifically because Femto raped Casca, and often that they've made up all kinds of negative headcanon about the way he was as a human because of Femto's actions during the Eclipse. But I don't care about anyone's Griffith Was A Sociopath headcanon or whatever, I care about what's in the actual series.

You could argue that FEMTO is problematic (he doesn't quite fit my understanding of what problematic means, but I'm not going to act like he isn't a whole entire asshole) but FEMTO isn't GRIFFITH, he's Griffith's soul shot through with the energies of hell, and with his emotions blunted, his humanity removed, and his moral limitations lifted.

People who call him problematic also usually mean that they're judging his actions from a modern western perspective when he's a medieval-to-renaissance era fantasy character created by a Japanese man in the 80s, so I find the application of a 2023 American moral paradigm sort of pointless. Particularly because people generally only apply the paradigm to Griffith specifically, because they're mad at him and not at, say, Guts despite Guts being a mass murderer by any modern standard.

The most honest answer is, all of the above but also I just don't find any utility in passing moral judgement on manga characters to begin with.

That doesn't mean I can't discuss his actions, their implications, their justification or lack thereof - is it okay to kill people who are trying to kill you, do the ends justify the means, how much death is acceptable in the creation of a nice place to live, etc etc. I like discussing these things. But I'm not going to discuss them from a place of judging whether those actions are problematic or even whether they're good or bad; I find that boring and reductive. One of the reasons I love Berserk to begin with is that it rejects these paradigms, so I'm not trying to impose them after the fact.

Ra (Egyptian God) Talon Abraxas

Ra (also given as Re) is the sun god of ancient Egypt. He is one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon and was later merged with others such as Horus, becoming Ra-Horakhty (the morning sun), Amun (as noonday sun), and Atum (the evening sun) associated with primal life-giving energy.

Ra is the Egyptian word for 'sun'. As a solar deity, Ra embodied the power of the sun but was also thought to be the sun itself, envisioned as the great god riding in his barge across the heavens throughout the day and descending into the underworld at sunset. As he made his way through the darkness beneath the earth, he was attacked nightly by the giant serpent Apophis (also known as Apep) who tried to prevent the sun from rising and so destroy all life on earth.

According to scholar Richard H. Wilkinson, Ra is "arguably Egypt’s most important deity" not only because of his association with the life-giving sun but also through his influence on the development of later gods. Amun, who would become so popular that his cult was almost monotheistic in devotion and the most powerful in ancient Egypt, developed from Ra and shares much of his mythology. Horus, who was associated with the living king, followed this same paradigm as Ra was known as “king and father of the king”. He was also associated with the creator god Atum and the two deities' names are used interchangeably in some versions of the creation myths.

This course of study is suggested for this deity more so than others because of the scope of his powers, the important part he played in Egyptian religion, and his long history. Worship of Ra was already established by the time of the Old Kingdom of Egypt (c. 2613-2181 BCE) and continued for almost 2,000 years until, like the other Egyptian gods, he was eclipsed by Christianity.
