ATEEZ Wooyoung MBTI Analysis

- ESFP -

An in-depth analysis of an idol's MBTI type. Based on my opinion and observations, may change later. Not an expert.

ESFP (Se - Fi - Te - Ni)

Dom: Se (Extroverted Sensing)

A perceiving function that uses our 5 senses to process the external world.

Wooyoung is always aware of the present moment, quick to react and to take action. He also pays attention to physical things such as aesthetics, the visuals of the performance, the way he looks, etc physical appearances matter a lot to him.

He enjoys photography and videography, which are pretty good activities for Se - it allows him to use his senses to make visually stimulating images and videos. Physically engaging activities seem like the best way to energize him e.g cooking and riding a bike. Cooking is great for his Se as it engages with all his senses - all the movement in cooking, tasting the foods, the aromas, watching the food cook, plating, maybe he enjoys hearing the sounds of food cooking as well and/or the way kitchen tools slightly hit each other (e.g knife on a cutting board).

This moment especially was an incredibly Se dom moment. Comparing it to Si user Jongho (Si has to step back and assess first), being the Se dom he is, Woo just went for it.

Aux: Fi (Introverted Feeling)

A judging function that uses one's own values and belief to compare and make choices

As Fi wants to be authentic, that is what Wooyoung always strives for - he always wants to express himself well, to be real. He wants people to like him for him. He returns the same gesture with others - he wants to know the real version of others. Wooyoung tries not to make assumptions at first meet since he knows he will not learn everything just from one encounter. He seems very empathetic.

Tert: Te (Extroverted Thinking)

A judging function that uses established facts and systems to make objective, working decisions.

He's quite goal oriented and takes time to plan to achieve these goals, even if it's not the most detailed. Either way, he knows how to get what he wants and works hard to reach his achievements.

Wooyoung lays down the rules as well - Te can be by the book, which Wooyoung can be sometimes. E.g when he was explaining how he found it rude when juniors would not put in the effort to correctly bow down to him and other senior artists. Wooyoung has a strong belief in being humble and kind (Fi) and wants to implement this in everyone.

Inf: Ni (Introverted Intuition)

A perceiving function that uses one's own personal insights and ideas

In his episode of "Fill in the Blank" series, Wooyoung said he wanted to use dance to convey deeper messages and emotions for others. He wants to be a sense of comfort, the light in other's darkness. He has always wanted to make an impact on others from a young age, especially considering how much he values relationships.

Why is he not an xSFJ or ISTJ

Both types use Si - Ne, which I do not see in Wooyoung at all...xSFJ's Fe is understandable, but Wooyoung is sometimes a bit too straightforward and honest to be using Fe in his main stack though lol.

And ISTJ just does not make sense in general for him.

The inferior function can be stronger than the dominant function

You may have heard how the inf fx (opp) can become more powerful than if it was dominant. ie, INFPs can be "more" ESTJ than regular ESTJs. Jung would say it's a way to compensate, balancing being Fi-dom with bursts of Te.

With Te as their anchor, INFPs are objective logic *based* types sorting subjectivity from objectivity. But how can their Te be "more" Te than ESTJs? Our opp comes out whenever it wants. And if we neglect it, it'll grow nasty, rebel, and rule over our ego. That's how we project.

Using our emotions, it gets the best of us. To better control this, we check with our opp. The majority of us do. ESTJs rarely do anything that goes against Fi. Therefore Te isn't purely objective, it's driven to meet Fi's standards.

When INFPs go into "ESTJ" mode, their Te isn't as Fi influenced like ESTJs. It's more objective. Many INFPs promote embracing the cold truth. Reality just is. We need to understand it using a pure logical mindset so we can be best informed when we're sorting our feelings about it.

Their Fi is influenced by Te, not the other way around. Unlike ESTJs, INFPs don't worry about their Fi. They're Fi-doms! They're in tune with it all the time, at no point it's at risk to project. They can afford to detach with Fi from time to time.

ESFP (Se - Fi - Te - Ni)

Dom: Se (Extroverted Sensing)

A perceiving function that uses our 5 senses to process the external world.

Snippet from his September Singles interview:

I debuted to show people my dance and vocals. But it is true that I hadn’t thought too deeply about how celebrities are expected to be more responsible and lead flawless lifestyles. I’ve always wanted to live as free as a bird, so these expectations felt like a huge burden at one point. But now I think they’re good for me. Having to live up to so many expectations means I have so much room for improvement at all times.

As Se is a present minded function, it seems like Mingi usually makes decisions on a whim - he didn't fully think about the problems of celebrity life as he was only focused on being a performer. He just jumped into it. Se can be prone to being impulsive as it's often a "just do it" mindset.

When writing songs, Mingi takes inspiration from his current surroundings. He talks about it in their little interview with Jonathan, how he gets inspired from what he sees on the streets.

Mingi, who explains his process of cataloguing his many thoughts to later draw from. “I write down a lot of them as memos on my phone, so I always go back to them to see if they match what we’re going through (as a group); that’s how I write my lyrics,” he says. “Sometimes I’ll think of it as writing a script, to really get into that persona." - i-D vice interview

Aux: Fi (Introverted Feeling)

Similar to Fi dom San, Mingi has a focus on being genuine as well. He wants a certain image for himself and puts in effort to build that image (fashion, the way he writes music). He only cares about his own perception of himself and wishes for others to have the mindset as well.

Mingi's always been a free spirit, but his longing for authentic self expression clashed with having to conform to idol standards. This likely caused an internal self conflict within Mingi. During his hiatus, he mentioned taking the time to have deep reflection on himself and wanting to be himself more, wanting to be better. High Fi users often want to work on expressing themselves authentically, wanting to be their most honest and best selves.

Tert: Te (Extroverted Thinking)

A judging function that uses established facts and systems to make objective, working decisions.

Mingi has stated he likes to gain new experiences as they can serve as some sort of life lesson. A bit of a mix of Se - Te statement though; Se likes experiences and he is able to put these lessons to use (Te).

Inf: Ni (Introverted Intuition)

A perceiving function that uses one's own personal insights and ideas

He seems to have some decent use of Ni - he has been planning his career and goals since he was a teenager and has successfully reached those goals. Still it is inferior as most of his choices have mainly been spontaneous. However, he's still glad of the way things turned out for him in the end.

I would also like to think Ni helped Mingi with his self reflection during his hiatus. Se doms can use their inferior Ni to search inside themselves to see what they truly want in life.

Why he's not an ENTP (Ne - Ti - Fe - Si)

I do not see Ne dominance in Mingi or any Ne usage in him in general. Comparing him to actual Ne users Yeosang (INTP) and Yunho (I'm currently unsure if he's an ENTP or ESFJ. That Ne - Fe is strong in him tho), even to inferior Ne types like Hwa (ISFJ) and Jongho (ISTJ)... I do not see it strong enough in Mingi for him to be typed as an ENTP or any Ne type.

Unseelie (Disagreeable Te-Fi)

Selective Approval & Devotion

The Unseelie attitude will constantly and unconsciously pinge their emotional register for how they feel about everything, responding with affection or acute repulsion reactions. They will be disgust-sensitive, carrying a specific emotional and aesthetic palate, registering things as tasteful or "gross." They will not be afraid to call something unethical or revolting by its rightful name and will make their opinion known without apologizing. Unlike the Seelie attitude, who is willing to be generous towards people and situations --seeking to highlight the beauty beneath things-- the Unseelie person feels there is no excuse for something unseemly, amoral, or cruel that does not deserve to be excused. However, this may cause them to appear highly selective and difficult to please. They may develop a reputation as being standoffish or cold. They may be misunderstood as being ill-willed when they are instead merely standing for what they value and consider good. While initially guarded, the Unseelie attitude will be a very gentle and sweet presence to all who can get past their initial barriers, revealing themselves to be loyal and ever-honest friends.

Self-Focus & Idiosyncrasy

The Unseelie person will be self-possessed, righteously independent and exhibit that through unusual habits and appearances. They will dress in ways that encapsulate their individuality, having little regard for how aligned it is to the cultural norm. Unafraid to be seen as bizarre, the Unseelie person is eccentric, idiosyncratic, and bold. They may have no problem telling someone they are fired, telling a lover their relationship is over, or negatively criticizing people's works or art. However, this can eventually expand into a highly calloused view of life where any appreciation for sensitivity is omitted. They may respond to the tragedies or hardships of others with "get over it" and lack sympathy for themselves or anyone else. Over time, this habit may excommunicate them from friend groups- a causality they may feel indifferent to initially but personally weighed by later. When highly distressed, the Unseelie attitude becomes obsessed with their appearance, social status, and personal value. As hardships cause devastation to their self-esteem, it starts to matter terribly that others think them beautiful and valuable. What was once genuine self-expression becomes a necessary channel for attention. Their self-focus deteriorates into vanity. Their desire to embody beauty becomes an obsession to receive external approval and to fill an emotional abyss. They may come to feel they only matter if they are beautiful and can embody elegance in the world. They may become exhibitionists, raising the stakes higher and more revealing than most in their attire and words. Narcissism grows in them, which can progress into a desire to be exalted and adored as royalty. However, unfortunately, one is never enough: never beautiful enough, rich enough, or important enough, which eventually devolves into jealousy, bitterness, and petty hatred towards others who sit higher than them in any competing domain.

Bitchiness

This pettiness degrades over time into a foul character marked by passive-aggressiveness, slandering, and prejudice. Here, the stressed individual exemplifies genuine malicious intent towards others, coordinating underhanded tactics to sabotage relationships and defame their enemies. They may gossip behind their backs, distorting people's opinions and setting people up for public humiliation. The Unseelie type under stress comes to be known as a "bitch" or snob, rejecting people based on lower status and power. They will use these tactics to secure their position in power, simultaneously validating their opinion of themselves. However, this power dynamic may just as easily backfire and cause the Unseelie type to become the subject of ridicule and excommunication when their ill-willed motivations are known. They play a dangerous game of fraud and fame, risking love and reputation. However, deep down, they may be indifferent to these outcomes, motivated not just by a desire for status but just as much by a misanthropic view and resentment towards people.

Morbidity & Macabre

However, an Unseelie attitude never loses its ability to glare directly into the character of living beings, including themselves. More than anyone, they may become painfully aware of how their life stress, disenchantment, and bitterness have corrupted their heart into a thrashing, injured, disfigured life form. Like the Seelie attitude, they intrinsically understand humanity as having an animal nature. When injuries have distorted their hearts, they will view themselves as a certain kind of monster --one that is wretched, desperate, and irredeemable. However, not only them; the Unseelie type peers into the depths of our human carnality and finds every grotesquerie imaginable. Moreover, they often embody this in art forms through morbidity and macabre. The art of the Unseelie person may be deeply offensive, shocking, explicit, and saturated with horror themes as they seek to paint as undiluted an image as possible of what they sense constitutes the uncensored reality of being. Often disturbingly sexual, frightening, and taboo -- they shy not away from any content matter, wanting to capture pain, sorrow, heartbreak, hopelessness, and every human experience in as true a form as can exist, bizarre as it may seem, the Unseelie individual is fulfilling their original mission of providing a transparent lens into the human soul, all that we shun and repress becomes the content matter for Unseelieness to elucidate.
