If I had a nickel for everytime I got obsessed with a group of four unlikely allies I'd have exactly two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right?
Especially when the nicely fit the typical archetypesℱ for a quartet; rebellion leader, the one angry about their circumstance (and looking to destroy the cause), the "pacifist", and token blond guy that probably has a lot of trauma.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) dir. Francis Lawrence. 7.5/10
I would not recommend this movie to my friends. I would not rewatch this movie.
Mags killing herself is wild. The poisonous fog is crazy. Why are the games like this? Like, we make it so much harder than having to just battle royale.
Omg these poor rafikis. omg poor lady morphling.
I don't like it when movies are part of a series but can't stand alone. Like, this ended like something's coming next. It feels unfinished like that.

how do y’all think haymitch felt when katniss came back to him all “i want wiress, beetee, and mags as allies” in catching fire? hand-picking his two and a half men(tors)!!
“of course you do” as his response now means so much more bc he’s not just exasperated he’s like “you really are me with a braid”

No but the Hunger Games really said "what do you hate more- the atrocities or the people who commit them against you? Because like it or not there IS a difference. If you hate the people who commit acts of pure evil more than you hate the acts themselves, what will stop you from becoming just like your enemies in your pursuit of justice? What will keep you from commiting those very same acts against THEM when the opportunity arises? And what then? The cycle of pain and suffering will never stop. Round and round it'll go. Nothing will ever change. But. BUT. If you hate the atrocities. If you hate the vile, senseless acts MORE than you hate the people who did them to you. If you are able to see that evil is evil regardless of who does it... The cycle ends with you. No, you may never get justice. But you will never be responsible for making others, even your enemies, suffer the same crimes you have. The atrocities will never be committed by you, never by your hand. And that's the way you change the world. It's the ONLY way" and that's why I am sure it will never stop being one of the most relevant works of fiction ever created

Just a reminder that we don’t know all the good things Katniss does/did for her community, because Katniss wouldn’t tell us unless it was relevant to what was going on.
In Catching fire, she doesn’t tell us that she’s being going around and bringing food to poor children in the seam until she needs to explain why she had a bag of food and why her mother wouldn’t find that odd.
Tumblr media
In the first book, when she’s telling Peeta about the story of how she got Prims goat, she refuses to admit that this wasn’t a selfish move so she could get money out of that goat. (You could also argue that this is her refusing to be vulnerable in front of Peeta and all of Pamen though. I think it’s both, because she doesn’t even admit that she did this purely for her sister in her internal dialogue.)
Tumblr media
And in Mockingjay, she never tells us that she’s the one that got Haymitch the goose eggs to help him heal after the games. All she says in the epilogue is that Haymitch raises geese when the liquor runs out. And we would never know otherwise if Haymitch didn’t mention that SHE was the one who got him the geese in sotr.

Comparing Haymitch and Katniss' narrative styles is so funny to me because he's a yapper and she's a gatekeeper. He drops more lore on D12 in the first two chapters of SOTR than she does in the entire trilogy.
Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."
And Katniss is over here like "Tf do I care for if y'all know all the lore of District 12? I'm talking about my beautiful husband's beautiful eyelashes."

beetee latier came up with one singular plan ever to defeat the hunger games and canonically tried to make it work TWICE despite the fact that it literally blew up in his face the first time.
this officially makes him the world’s most accurate fictional scientist because he HAS a favorite hypothesis that he IS going to make sure works even if it fucking kills him

im rereading catching fire before reading sunrise on the reaping and there’s a little detail i didnt remember and it is that haymitch was sending the other victors messages through bread in the arena, so finnick was very fixated on any bread that arrived. but katniss of course doesnt know this so she’s just kind of annoyed by it, like finnick is counting the little rolls to figure out the message and katniss just goes “finnick and his fucking bread again🙄🙄”

â€Șa few chapters into sunrise on the reaping and the conclusion I’m coming to is that while katniss keeps *a lot* to herself, 16 year-old haymitch was a chronic oversharer. he dropped in ONE chapter more of the entire district’s lore than she did in 3 books
