My friends i watched love for love's sake and I swear i don't have a fckin clue where even to start.

I know a lot has been said about the show already and i know a LOT more would be said about in the future, but i just can't help adding my own two cents to one of the most thought-provoking, moving and brilliantly executed pieces of art i have ever seen.

I'm not gonna go on about just how much I loved Tae Myungha's character and how he is one of the most interesting people I've seen on screen in a long time. I'm not gonna talk about how unbelievably squishable Yeowoon is and how his duality totally ruined me that I need him to get into my pocket and NEVER leave. And oh I need him to put Myungha in his pocket while at it. I'm also not gonna talk about precious 'of course i'm gay, i've always liked girls, you don't know how to be loved' Sangwon is to me, cos if i start I can promise you I will most certainly never stop.

So for the sake of the rest of this post, I'm moving on. (NOT REALLY THO)

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE all the interpretations that people are coming up with, LOVE LOVE LOVE the show for filling in the gaps but LOVE it more for still leaving room for pretty thought-flowers to bloom around.

You know those artworks or puzzles that have something obvious hidden in a maze of confusion and haze until somebody points out the pattern, you zoom out and realize wow it was this clear all along?? That's a LOT of what watching the show felt like to me. The pattern being how inexplicably inter-connected Myungha and Yeowoon are. Not because they are each other's blorbos, but because why they are eo's blorbos. Why they don't care for each other from a sense of sympathy, but from empathy, despite not knowing the depth of their connections explicitly.

Eventhough we do see glimpses of it from the start, it only gets more clear later how Myungha and Yeowoon really are mirror versions of eo. How the first time Myungha sees Yeowoon he's stopping him from killing himself, and then we later find out that Myungha ends up killing himself. How both of it was triggered by a series of disappointments in life, starting with a troubling family and ending with a grandmother who passes away. Of how both of them seem to really have no one else to call their own in the world. Of leading very lonely depressing lives, that seem to never have a glimpse of hope. How both of them seem closed off, but inside they really are so fragile it hurts to perceive the depth of their feelings. It all comes and hits you once you've taken the whole show in and have gotten a few 1000 seconds to think about it.

We start off with myungha's character wanting to make his blorbo's character happy, and he's in it cos he cares about him, he doesn't have to think about himself. A 'pathetic' character experiencing a lot of pain, what's not to love, Myungha thinks, not realizing that it's his own mirror self that he is feeling so much for. Myungha sees Yeowoon's problems as someone from outside and is therefore able to objectively look at it, and approach it proactively, taking so many steps to help him, my favourite (and arguably most important) of which is the effort he puts in to help form yeowoon a friend circle. Something that he couldn't do for himself cos he never even considered a possibility of that. Why would anybody want to be around him? He ruins everything right?

And then to go on despite believing that, to falling in love, to deciding to choose to save both his grandma and yeowoon, finally FINALLY taking control into his hands even if for a bit to say what he wants, to spending the last few days together, to breaking up cos he just thinks the worst of himself, cos he doesn't know better. And then to the eternal darkness, where moments before leaving, just like in his real life, he realizes he wants in, he wants to live, he wants to love, but more importantly this time, he wants to try being loved. Even if it's difficult, he wants to try.

I love how eventhough the show is heavily Myungha focused, we get meaningful dynamics with multiple characters. Round eyed gasp inducing moments dont just belong to the two mains but also to sangwon whose line to myungha post the stalker incident just ruined me and really set the tone for whatever the show was later revealed to be all about.

I love how complicated the narrative got while still telling a more or less coherent story, how in hindsight, a lot of it makes even more sense now. How as Myungha gets closer to yeowoon his self-hating tendencies manifest in the form of debuffs and errors, because of his own brain's inability to perceive himself as somebody deserving love. His childhood trauma and the numerous rejections life has given him, because of the kind of person he turned out to be because of those rejections, all appear to stand in his way of happiness, as if he can't help being a bundle of sadness and a harbinger of problems. Even as he says he doesn't believe in destiny or fate. Or as we initially are made to believe in the game as, yeowoon's happiness, when in reality this was never about yeowoon at all. Yeowoon never existed in the first place and in "real" life, he never does.

I was blown away by how Myungha is in fact no longer in the mortal world but that fact doesn't hurt as much as that he would have to leave a world where he could finally feel happiness, feel loved, feel cared for, even if he consciously tried avoiding them. They still came to him, they still cared for him, they still fiercely wanted to protect him, (Cos he is just a tiny meow meow, who has been hurt a lot in his life, who wouldn't wanna caress and nurse him back to health HUH) just as much as he wanted to protect them.

And coming to the question of what's the game, where is it happening and who orchestrated it? It's definitely set in the afterlife or the limbo between life and the life after. It could be the author friend doing it, or the author friend has given myungha's brain the power to control the game OR of course the possibility that this has all been happening in myungha's head the whole time.

Whatever it is, the whole point has been to take Myungha from a person not wanting to live his life, feeling so devoid of love and happiness, to a journey of love and friendship, of the importance of fostering connections, of making efforts, of helping others, but equally of letting others help you, of putting your hand out and asking for that help. And in my head I love it most when I think of it as entirely Myungha orchestrated. Of it being a desperate cry of pain to himself, from himself, to save himself. Yeowoon and the game and the missions and all of it was for him to see himself in ways he never allowed himself to be seen as, to take care of himself in ways he never has, to love himself like he has never known to. To finally run towards himself, even if pathetic and sad, the Cha Yeowoon of the game, the person waiting at the end of the finishing line was the Tae Myungha in him all along.

You know that tumblr quote 'do it for her' but its about your future self, right? Myungha rooting for Yeowoon is sort of like that? When he's protecing him, he's protecting himself? When he's cheering for him, he's actually cheering and rooting for himself? When he's loving him, he makes space and place to love himself?

I just love the idea of a (self) love story.

Eitherway Yeowoon x Myungha supremacy.

Extreme(ly accurate?) Interpretations apart, Love for Love's Sake is truly one of the, if not THE finest (self) love story I might have ever seen.

As a person who avoids fics/books with mcd or shows with tragic endings, it felt absolutely revolutionary to me that my biggest joy and relief came from the fact that the main character is dead (the thought of myungha having to leave the game was too much to handle) and he gets to live in this game where he has a cute boyfriend, a supportive, caring friend group and his grandma back. it wasn't the game that was temporary or non-existent, it was actually his life outside. And that's not bad? Cos this is a story and Myungha isn't real, but as real as he is, he got his happy ending.

The show taught us to love, to see love, to be loved and to share that love. It told us that maybe the afterlife is a videogame simulation where we all get to live in friendship and love forever, with our blorbo and our friends. There are a lot worse lives to live. And I'm glad he found it in himself, enough love, courage and hope to write himself a better one :')

Episode 2 - What’s this? Oh is that boredom?

I had to skip most of the humiliating stuff with the food in the car and whatever was going on because… aargh. 

They keep ordering food in this episode of nobody’s eating it. And it looks really good and I’m hungry and this is very upsetting to me. 

Lom is just totally jerking Nuea around. Just tell him what your relationship is with the bride. 

There’s no need to be so fucking coy about it. 

I love the flaming yelling fit from Nuea tho.  

It was also a good kiss. 

But that’s what we expect from a Mame.

No character development at all, on any side of the screen. 

And someone, mostly me, is always left with a mad desire to punch something.

Episode 4 - I Am Going to Start Drinking

I like consent especially when “no” is activated. But this being Mame she shoe horns it in and then the seme ignores it. 

It’s so awkward. She’s actually incapable of making any non-problematic tropes sexy. It’s like there is only one lane for her shows and that lane is...

the WORST 

My “Punch Lom in the face 2023” campaign continues.

I don’t see how he can ever become a sympathetic character. He just trundles along lying by omission (when speaking up would make everything better). I hate him. 

I’m glad we get to see Nuea suffering, now show Lom what he has done and make him lose the boy.

Episode 5 - I Neglected to Drink and that was a Mistake

Was I pleased we got multiple characters who are just outright gay? Yes. 

But representation has not been one of Mame’s issues. 

I mean Tharn was one of the first openly gay seme leads in a Thai BL, and she also had rep for lube and condoms in that show. That’s not the issue with TharnType. Or Mame. 

Her issues tend to revolve around story structure and audience manipulation. 

Was I pleased that Nuea knew what was going on? Yes, I’m glad he’s not totally clueless. 

I still want Lom to be punched in the face and I’m still mad at this show. 

Episode 6 - Too hot to drink, still a Mistake

I finally figured out my real problem with Lom. It’s not that he was closeted and manipulative without good reason (although he is). It’s not that he lied and strung Nuea along for a lot longer than was necessary (because he did). It is that he basically does everything for himself and his own ends. Even when he’s confessing his love it comes off as flat because it isn’t about Nuea and what Nuea wants or needs, it’s about Lom wants.

Hanging a lampshade on it doesn’t make it right. 

It was good bridge kiss. And car kiss. And sex kisses. 

There is something corrupted grunge romantic asking the person you love most in the world to hide that love and climb back into the closet with you for the sake of your nasty arse family (is that a queer taboo, hum). I think we HAVE to hold this up and examine it in stark contrast to the final ep of Bad Buddy. It’s interesting how the closet retreat didn’t bother me at all in BB, and I thought it was quite a clever and elegant ending twist. Whereas here it’s just annoying. It’s not making me as angry as it probably should. But it is annoying as a narrative conceit and denouement.

Honestly? 

This was a fine ending, I’m not mad at it. 

They managed to keep Lom in character until the end, he remained deceitful.  I would never trust him, but clearly Nuea is willing to ride that dragon. 

I guess 7/10? 

If you can tolerate Mame and liars (kinda the same thing) you’ll be fine with this show. 

But, frankly? Lom as a character would sit better amongst the drama bananas of Only Friends.

A lackluster Mame offering with less of her usual stellar chemistry, but all of her usual manipulation. An innocent wedding planner falls haplessly and hopelessly in love with a groom who relentlessly pursues him, even though he’s about to marry someone else.

“You didn’t have to…” you tried to dismiss it before even looking at the plate full of apples, bananas and grapes cut into little pieces and ridden of seeds so you can easily eat it. The thought and care behind it almost brought tears into your eyes. “Wow, thank you.”

“Don’t even mention it. You can take whatever you want if you want,” your girlfriend knew there’s no reason trying to force you to eat, it only made you shut down more. Giving the option while making it the most accessible was the way.

“How was your day?” you asked her to distract yourself, and just because you loved listening to her voice.

“Well, I had a few successful attempts in death traps today, Satan knows those kids might actually be of some good use. And Avery, remember the reader kid? If he had the choice too he would've been in the Bard Coven.

Jackie I could imagine being in the Emperors Coven but in a "was manipulated from a young age" kinda way. He has since left and likes to focus on himself and exploring magic in the way he wanted too (yes he's allowed to use all magic but the stigma of "you can only use one" really got to him so he only now has actually started exploring it properly). He's more talented with elemental magic and he's a naturally good flyer !!! He does have a sigil but he hides it so he isn't discovered.

Anti would be a demon in the Boiling Isles and would probably have a focus on Abomination Magic but in his own messed up way. I also think Anti comes off as not respecting the Emperors Coven (he still has beef with Marvin tho) so he also knows Beast Keeping.

fishmonger is a must no matter what you listen to, best hyperpop album out there. so much different genre mixings, so many creative ideas, so much oomfh in a single god damn album while still sounding really good. there is no bad song in this album yet there is so many elements from different genres. listen to it! its good really good it has alt/indie rock elements to it :D

jane remover is an artist who boggles my mind because the fella wasnt even 18 when she created the album that has shaped the hyperpop realm since the day it was posted, having effects to the genre to this day. album influenced the genre and i am sure of it! while some of the songs were removed from the album it is insanely fun and unique 4 songs to listen to.

apparently white tiger is digicore but it’s basically the same genre. smooth album, taking inspiration from others while still keeping it fresh and original with various cool and unique ideas. executed well and the songs transition very well, never felt like the song was forced into the album. definitely listen, this more experimental one. while the last 2 were more mainstream in the genre (that means if you listen to hyperpop you know these albums) this one not so much, but the internet sweaty nerds who listen to sematary and dg love 2hollis for some reason

sidenote: 2hollis’ new album “2” goes also extremely hard so listen to that too, even tho its more electropop

I agree with everything else he'd said in the carriage, but that's the only thing that stroke me as odd. Alastair loves his sister deeply, he'd go to another realm gleefully himself if it meant Cordelia was safe from danger. He is willing to do so much for her, even before he'd changed it was like that. So to me, it ruined the moment. Just a bit.

yes yes yes i 1000% agree!! that really bummed me out, we actually have multiple scenes in the last hours where the merry thieves (falsely) assume that alastair is a bad brother. of course he would do everything in his power to protect his little sister from the literal mother of demons like???

in the defense of the MT tho, they only really know alastair as a rude & un-empathetic at first, so of course they would firstly assume that he’s like that with everyone.

i think it’s a little disappointing that thomas doesn’t know him better than that at this point in the book, and that he is absolutely underestimated and underappreciated as the role he had in cordelia’s life. (i know it’s true that he kept her rather at an arms length growing up, but primarily to protect her)

Tencent press conference also released a bunch of posters and here are some that caught my eye for a variety of reasons.

As a poster it’s just heads but I am here for the chaos that will ensue from mashing a bunch of Jin Yong novels together in New Jin Yong Wuxia Universe. Is it going to be a disaster? Probably. Am I here for it? With bells on. PS hi Zhou Yi Wei and Vengo Gao and Peter Ho, at least no matter the content of this, my eyeballs will feast mmmmm

I don’t do moderns and thus have no interest in The Snowstorm of Love despite my fondness for both Wu Lei and Zhao Yinmai, but I had to post the poster because good god that poster is heinous and all I can think of is frostbite.

Zhuo Zhuo Feng Liu poster is a bit generic but in exactly the way I like - men in armor (with handsome horse in background), lady in court robes, forearm holding and staring, classics are classics. And it’s not swimming in pastels, already a win.

Have you guys ever been big into 1970s fantasy with those delightfully trippy covers? Because this is the vibe the poster is giving me and I love it. This is where the casting carousel of The Guide to Capturing the Black Lotus stops and we get Esther Yu and Ding Yuxi apparently and NGL I am loving that casting and that pairing for those characters.

The Wonderland of Love poster is as good as its trailer and its trailer was by far my favorite out of the entire tencent conference.

Liu Shishi’s Fox Spirit Matchmaker @aceinthetrap let me know is not FSM it’s a different drama (apparently called Love Beyond the Grave? Why am I thinking zombies and romantic poets in cravats?) looks beyond gorgeous. This is how you do it, people!

Tho if you got to go for cliches, you could do worse than Everlasting Longing which continues to push the sexy barbarian chief thing like everything depends on it, which I suppose for the drama it does. Luckily my main emoji on seeing it is 😍😍😍😍

God damn you! Hands off 1000 Miles of Bright Moonlight. I do not want an adaptation of this because they are going to ruin it utterly. They already ruined my n1 het web novel with the travesty that was the adaptation of Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir and now time to go for my second most favorite? Between censorship regulations and cdramas’ own narrative tendencies in recent years, they are just gonna do a terrible job, leave it alone pls.

I like this poster for Liu Shui Tiao Tiao because it’s not like anything else and is not drowning in pastels; it’s probably my favorite poster out of the entire conference.

pulls out my bunny knowledge bc i was a lil obsessed w them for a while so i wanted to learn everything i could about them

bunny!chrissy loves to bake but she gets sick if she has too much sweets so shes eating baby spinach out of the box youve just got from the grocery while she watches you taste all the stuff shes made!! (comes from dont feed buns too many carrots bc the amt of sugar is bad in large amounts. they like and need leafy greens!)

where she mightve been a bit on edge and eager to please at first, you know she truly feels safe and at home when one day she just flops on to her side on the floor or onto the bed while youre nearby. shes all stretched out and wiggling her nose and her ears are at a bit of an awkward angle but the look of content on her face even after you hear the THUMP is too sweet to disturb (i reccomend looking up bunnies flopping. its so damn cute. and its a sign that bunnies feel safe 🥺)

speaking of thumping, she thumps her legs when shes scared or angry. she cant help it. anxiety leg turned up to 1000. u can tell when shes feeling upset bc you can feel the vibrations on the floor :( if its just one lil stomp tho, shes just trying to get your attention back to her. shes cute! she wants to play!

but my FAVORITE bunny behavior is called binkying! a binky is when a bunny jumps Super high and kinda twists its head and body. its like a big burst of energy they gotta express! miss cheerleader chrissy would be great at these !!! shes so happy and excited shes gotta do a backflip! shes all flushed and smiley after and most of all, she feels safe to express how happy she is with you :)

yes yes yes for every cupcake she eats she's gotta balance it out with a salad too!! she looooves it when you make salads for her, it's kind of a routine between you that she'll keep the house stocked with pastries if you chop her up salads to munch on :') she doesn't like 'em with dressing, either, she'll curl up at your side on the couch and pick out each individual vegetable and mow through the bowl :')

AW YES i've seen videos of it before and it looks soooo cute!! she does it all the time once she's comfortable with you, sometimes she does it on top of you and you're laying there smushed like chrissy!! but she knows you're not mad at her 'cause you're already pressing kisses into her cheeks and nuzzling your nose against hers, a habit that she's thrilled you've picked up from her :') she just flops down whenever you're near!!

aw the poor thing!! you usually hear it when a recipe doesn't go well, or you're too busy working to hang out with her :( but when you're sitting on the couch and maybe your hand has settled in her hair instead of petting through the strands she thumps once against the couch, kissing your thigh that her cheek is resting on when you start up petting her again :')

AW OMG I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT HER STILL BEING INTO GYMNASTICS/CHEERLEADING!!!! she'd be so hyper all the time, somersaulting over to you on the bed if you sit across from her and when she gets really excited, yes she's flipping all over the place!! she gives a little squeal at whatever it is that has her happy and she just has a burst of energy that comes out in a cartwheel or a flip or something like that!! she just has to get the excitement out or she'll burst!

Brendan Hunt’s Post-Finale Reddit AMA (Part 1)

Because I have seen a lot of one-off screenshots and vagueblogging about this, but no compilation post, I figured I would compile all the canon-important questions Brendan Hunt answered in his Reddit AMA this afternoon, along with some light commentary. Let’s start with a big clarification a lot of people asked for and he answered twice: was the end montage a dream?

Tl;dr according to the writers, none of it was a dream. (Also RIP that book list, I’ve been curious about this before and tried to pull a full list from screenshots but I think we only see 3-4 of the books 😩)

On Beard & Jane.

So this is all very… YIKES 😬😬😬 (Except for the bit about Roy & Keeley, which honestly mostly feels like a non-answer other than “Roy needs to go to therapy” which: lol no kidding.)

On Ted & Rebecca.

Although I don't particularly ship Ted & Rebecca (tho I'm not against it either, I'm neutral in that ship war!) I understand why y'all are mad about these answers. The last one in particular feels like a retcon-y denial of some deliberate writing choices they made, whether or not they ever seriously considered having them actually end up together.

On Ted's Ending.

As someone whose largest problem with the finale (aside from the glaring Beard & Jane Of It All) can be summarized as "Major Issues With Ted's Everything," I'm gonna go ahead and chalk this up to just a major writing fumble, essentially. If people are asking this many questions about it, you needed to spell more of this out onscreen. Half of these questions could've been answered by having Ted actually have a real conversation with Rebecca in the stands instead of fucking SILENCE.

On Ted & Beard.

I mean, other than the drugs question (which is a very valid answer)...I guess?? Feels unsatisfyingly realistic to Actual Adulthood to me, personally, but sure, I guess.

On Dr. Jacob.

I am nothing but a disabled paralegal with Google, and it took me less than five minutes to locate KAR 102-5-12. Unprofessional conduct for Marriage & Family Therapists in Kansas:

(26) making sexual advances toward, engaging in physical intimacies or sexual activities with, or exercising undue influence over any person who, within the past 24 months, has been one's client; (27) exercising undue influence over any client, student, or supervisee, including promoting sales of services or goods, in a manner that will exploit the client, student, or supervisee for the financial gain, personal gratification, or advantage of oneself or a third party;

(All emphasis mine.) So... we'll fall back on that "suspension of disbelief" for fiction, I guess?? Because he clearly violated (26) with Michelle and (27) with Ted.

On Roy, Keeley, & Jamie.

That fight and Roy doing "work on himself" absolutely could have happened earlier in the season, but... sure! I guess! (If I'm being charitable, I might say that he misunderstood the poly triad question since the OP worded it as a "triangle relationship" rather than actually using the words "polyamory" or "non-monogamy" but. He very well may have understood but just ignored that part of it! Who knows.)

1000% everyone should support the writers strike though, obvs.

You know, if Haruaki does time travel with Hatanaka to the past, the Douman from that time is going to have a heart attack when he sees him. Cause he's definitely going to think he's Seimei.

And actually, in the Haru student arc, the principal was a bit off towards Haruaki too. I wonder how the time travel idea effects their relationship. Because he already explained why he hired Haru, but now I sorta feel that when the time travel arc comes, it'll reveal more about that. (Maybe that will be my own 'Called it' idea).

The principal during that arc really is so weird!! You know what, yeah, if Haru was aged down him being at school would really have been one of, if not the first time the principal meets him (that lost in kyoto when he was 17 thing, also the time travel if true)

Potential time travel really does interact with preexisting plot details in such interesting ways, I'm fairly certain sensei only came up with it in 2020 (around vol 10 and 11). Actually, reading back, is yoseito 16.5 (culture fes 9 years ago) that came out in 2020 Jan actually the first instance of the idea even if it doesn't look like it? It's the first time we got something interesting about Ibara that wasn't being Hatanaka's wife and Rintarou's sister. Haruaki bringing up the nepo hires in ch74 might also be part of it, and that also happens before more explicitly showing it in Haru student arc.

Anyway I'm bringing up that I think this is a recent idea is because clearly stuff gets retconned in this manga (i think it does it pretty well tho) like despite everything about 1000 years ago probably being planned out since the start, Ranmaru meeting the principal in the vol 4 kidnapping was probably intended to be their first meeting in a while at time of writing, and then we got yoseito ch 31. (Also, if Haruaki does meet Ranmaru 100 years ago, Ranmaru being shocked to see him in vol 4 would get totally retconned so idk how sensei is going to handle that)

Haruaki time travelling works oddly well with pre-ch1 interactions with the principal:

specifically, it would totally change what this scene means, from "holy shit seimei reincarnation??" to "I've already met future you, 100 years ago"

it would also add some extra... detail(?) to principal knowing papaaki, because that phone call and that time he went to shrine to see Haruaki pre-ch1 really has been the only instance of it. (like... why do they even know each other?)

thinking about it, i wonder if this would also change the meaning of Ranmaru's "you're always so obsessed with Seimei" in vol 4?

(sometimes i wonder if the principal got heart attacks hearing class 2-3 yell about seimei all day, at least at first)
