God I just fucking love Percy Jackson so much like as a franchise it’s so beautiful and inclusive but also it’s just such a flexible world and it’s so workable as a fanfiction writer and it fits into pretty much any crossover because it works as a light, fun story but it’s also so horrifying but because the actual books don’t lean into those aspects as much you don’t have to either but you can if you want to and it’s so OC-friendly and there are so many gods with potential for parenthood and even the parts of the world that aren’t quite mythology accurate can be edited because it’s gods are concepts not people and they can be plenty of things all at once and it’s not like the actual books are all that consistent either and whdlwodjkwnd I love this series so much it’s incredible and beautiful and Rick Riordan did so much good by publishing the entire franchise

Yesterday I came to the realization that there are very few legitimate Percy Jackson/TMNT crossovers anywhere. So I've decided to do it myself, specifically using RotTMNT. By doing this I also decided to make a demigod turned mutant oc!

Meet Rhodes Valentine!

Rhodes was a 17 year old daughter of Aphrodite(They/She).

Their first name, Rhodes, comes of greek origin meaning "where roses grow". Rose is not only the main color shown on Rhodes but also one of Aphrodite's sacred flowers.

Her last name, Valentine, is a french last name. Their father was French, which is how she got it, and it also makes reference to Valentines Day, the day of love. And also Paris, France is the city of love so I thought it was appropriate.

Lastly, their mutated form. She is a butterfly mutant, chosen because a butterfly is one of Aphrodite's sacred animals. Their powers include charmspeak and being able to tell peoples feelings, from before she mutated, and a way of drawing people away through scent. Their wings look very liquidy and match her tears right? That's cause they are like perfume. They can choose any scent and use to draw people either towards her or away from them.

She was mutated after the season 2 finale, for Rise, and post-Blood of Olympus/pre-Trials of Apollo, for pjo.

Fixation Central

Anyone who follows my blog knows I am auDHD and I fixate extremely fast. I am constantly frothing at the mouth with how much I adore certain fandoms. Most of what I'm into right now is superhero cartoons, but my journey with two of my first ever fandoms: Scooby Doo and Harry Potter.

I've 'left' Harry Potter, but that's because I made my own canon lmao. Or attempted to, at least-

It has long since branched off and my honorary fixations include Gravity Falls, Warrior Cats, PJO, and Doctor Who. And yes, I did also have problematic fixations - let yourself be cringe; if you want to enjoy DSMP, Homestuck, ATLA, or anything in between - do it. I was only part of one of these though. All fandoms have their toxicity, and in the end... make your own fucking canon. Problem solved.

Though, now... it's time to talk about what I like now and the ones I never truly left so without much further ado - let's get on with it!

Gravity Falls (joined the fandom late, ended up being the creator of multiple original AU's and adored the Pines family dynamics; would've wanted to see something actually used with the Cipher/Zodiac Wheel)

ummm i have a wip called "lessons learned" and it was supposed to be a series of 2nd-person vignettes from the pov of the sylvari commander. expanding more on early personal story and how being raised/mentored by caithe and trahearne kind of fucked them up. whose bright idea was it to let miss "i will walk on my knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting" and mister "i want to martyr myself so bad it makes me look stupid" take a crack at the young and impressionable sapling anyway. now look at them. they're pushing aurene to meet the same unreasonable standards because it's the only way they know how to live. generational trauma fic. you know how it is.

14. what are your writing strengths?

give me a STRUCTURE! give me a set of RULES! if you say "here is a strict format you MUST follow" i will say "YESSIRRRR" and i will think inside of that box so hard and i will do it so good. i don't break rules but by god i'll bend them within an inch of their life. also i'm funny

the fact that i don't do it. my turnaround time is abysmal there's like a minimum two years waiting period in between everything i publish :[ also according to my boyfriend just now he says sometimes i don't explain things enough. sometimes i expect the audience to know what kind of broth i'm making but i haven't thrown them enough bones. and i don't realize this bc the broth is already cooked in my head. it's obvious to me but not to them.

i've had someone ask once if they could translate my fic, but they also wanted to repost it to a different website. so i turned them down. sharing is fine, but i'm just not comfortable with my writing being reposted somewhere else even with credit.

I've actually been working on the rdr crossover here and there, but I'll definitely start giving it more attention. (I feel I've moved to the acceptance stage of grief, but writing fanfic about it might implicate bargaining... eh I'll get some laughs out of it regardless)

I do want to make a mini-fic that's more put together than my PJO au, but has more content than some of my drops in Worlds of A Disgruntled OC so instead of rambling, how about I give you a sneak peak of what I'm working on?

Ashlyn Moore was an incredibly unlucky person. It wasn’t a matter of opinion, it was an objective fact of the universe. As cut and dry as gravity’s rules or the laws of energy conservation. A dependable and evidentially supported fact of life, and much like Murphy’s Law, it could be invoked at any moment.

Such as right now.

Here, lying here, with a rock pressed against her spine and dirt rubbing against her skin, Ashlyn Moore was faced with such evidence that would seal her title as the unluckiest person in the world. Because how many people crossed dimensions not once, but twice within a year?

Wrinkling her nose, the girl didn’t bother to open her eyes. She was content to simply lay there, in the dirt, ignorant to the specifics of whatever world she’d wandered into for now. Not much different from what Ashlyn had been doing with the voices, and that had been working out great so far.

As much as she would love to reveal in unknowing bliss, dimensional travel had a very distinct feeling. An odd dreamlike haze, as if reconnecting a mind to a body that had been nothing but split atoms and a handful of migrating molecules moments before was an arduous task. A process not quite complete, even after eyes opened and sight returned. Ashlyn only had a rough guess of the moment her world had first blended with fiction, the transition too vague to truly define, but the sensation of other was too distinct not to connect to. And now, she had relived it once more. That was one aspect of reality, of whatever had happened when energon met that stupid rock, that she could not ignore.

The world had shifted, yet again, and she had no clue how to fix any of it.

Honestly, it was rather predictable, wasn’t it? Didn’t take a lot of brain power to figure out once those few details became clear and the story came into focus like the tapes of an old film.

Miko had tried to sneak out and watch a bot fight. Jack following to make sure the girl didn’t get herself killed was typical. Ashlyn, herself, had been bored out of her mind and resorting to watching mind-numbing videos of a survival expert cooking some Michelin-level salmon with tin foil and alternating to a shirtless man digging out an underground house with a piece of bamboo. Feeling faintly inspired, she’d been prepared to give the latter a try in the base’s walls. The fact that mud and roots were replaced by stone and steel would only add to the challenge. When Jack had catapulted after Miko, narrowly missing in his half-hearted tackle attempt, it was like a dinner bell rang.

Entertainment! Come get your free, entertainment! No broken nails or mining is required!

A pity, she’d been fascinated by the chance to create a hiding place in the walls for the whole 5 minutes the idea had spawned in her mind.

But this would work too.

Sharing a look with Raf, the pair had slyly put the computer down, still playing a collection of YouTube’s greatest survival tips, and followed their fellow homo sapiens. She may have been the oldest of the quartet, but Ashlyn was not their keeper. She was going to enjoy this little impromptu field trip while she could. 

Hidden on a cliff-side, the group held front-row seats to the mini-battle that unfolded beneath them. Ashlyn hadn’t recognized the scene or location, so she’d been too engrossed in the drama to take note when Miko had once again started to move. She’d only realized that anything had changed when Raf had asked what the younger girl was doing near a cave.

Ashlyn hadn’t stopped Miko from interacting with the carvings. Not from the photos or touching the chipped pieces. The design was familiar, even as it seemed jarringly wrong, but Ashlyn couldn’t quite identify what episode those odd drawings were part of. But if they were here, they must be important. 

Who was she to stand in the way of the plot?

Her hesitation was a mistake.

Bad luck had decided to strike again, and the last thing Ashlyn remembered seeing was a sudden blast and hearing the sudden screams of her companions.

In the glare of the light, Ashlyn could have sworn that the carvings had started to dance.

Thus, the latest evidence proving the Laws of Ashlyn had been added to the cosmic tally. She was unamused, but at least she was no longer bored. Ashlyn almost wished she was bored.

Yet, one must count their blessings. The air was warm and pleasant, breathable which was good. The rock that was pressing between the vertebra of her spine had not cut into it, and the tickling sensation of grass and dirt proved that she still had sensation in her limbs.

Somehow she was the unluckiest person in the world, but she still had enough luck in her to walk away with that evidence. Perhaps, in another life, she might’ve been a cat. A black cat with nine lives and the audacity that can only come from not having a single one stolen.

She smiled at the thought of sauntering down fence tops and lounging on tree branches. It must feel something like this, shadows dancing over her face as leaves danced in a merry breeze. Warm sunbeams caressed her form as she would laze away the day, blissful and unconcerned about the troubles of reality.

If only she was actually a cat.

Maybe if she opened her eyes she’d find that such a dream had been fulfilled.

Considering her luck, probably not. But now, with everything but her soul in question, she couldn’t prove that she wasn’t one. Schrodinger’s Cat was her preferred state of being usually, just for the simplicity of it. Why tack on a feline version for her sanity’s sake? 

She is a cat. She is not a cat. She is Ashlyn, and that’s more than enough.

With that line of thought, the girl’s mind drifted off into a strange breed of nonsense that could not help but taper off into a dream. Ashlyn Moore took a nap, not knowing where she was but quite sure that she was alone and that such problems could wait for whenever she deemed it prudent to leave this uncomfortable spot.

Had she not been so nonchalant, some things would have carried on very differently. For instance, a man, full-bearded and with a sour attitude came across the sleeping girl. Spotting a young woman, dressed oddly and splayed out beneath a tree, Bill Williamson shouldered his gun and stared.

What exactly was he supposed to do here?

Bill had seen many strange things in his life, from his stint in the army to his career as an outlaw, life had a way of tossing weird shit all over the place.

Stepping closer to the stranger, dry earth crunching beneath his boot and fingers itching to grab the carbine repeater once more, the man gave a start as some wild beast bellowed in the distance.

It took a moment to realize it was just the lady snoring… so she was alive then. Sleeping like a baby grizzly, complete with a little snot bubble that rose and fell with every “mehu.”  

Stepping back, Bill sighed and rubbed his head. Just their luck that first thing after getting off that goddamn mountain a stranger appears right outside of camp. The women hadn’t even unpacked yet, Mr fucking Morgan’s wagon with Hosea and Charles hadn’t even arrived yet! Dutch hadn’t even done one of his speeches yet and already something unexpected had happened. Lone woman or not, the situation was suspicious.

The gang couldn’t risk gaining any attention or trouble, not until they had the money to split properly. Or until Dutch come up with another plan. 

Looking back at the woman, Williamson took in her odd clothes. Jeans a few sizes too small, boots that didn’t look like anything he’d ever seen and a jacket that might’ve dyed leather. Oddly dressed, yes, but, other than a branch sticking out of wild hair, she was well-groomed and appeared healthy from a quick glance. Not some poor waif, likely had a family that would notice if she went missing.

Drat.

Dutch also wouldn’t appreciate killing a random woman just because she decided to nap near the camp. Besides, there was no confirmation that she’d seen anything. No confirmation that anyone knew where she was or would suspect them if she went missing. Valentine was a small town. People talked in small towns. People were suspicious.

The Van Der Linde Gang did not need help to be seen as suspicious.

Poking her with his boot, Bill watched as that lady scowled and swatted it. He thought he could hear her muttering about something.

Leaning closer, Bill hovered over the girl in hopes of overhearing. Maybe pick up some clues on this latest shit that had been tossed his way.

He failed to account for the girl waking up.

Ashlyn Moore, opening her eyes to a strange, kinda familiar, ruffian hovering over her acted on pure, engrande reflex.

Always aim for the eyes, her mother had told her.

Her hand moved quickly, fingers winding in the coarse foul-smelling beard, and pulled. Her other hand met the surprised and teetering man’s face.

A solid crack sounded off as blood spurted. The man screamed, shrill and high as he fell back on his heels, hands too occupied with his broken nose to reach for his gun.

What luck. What wondrous, good-for-nothing, terrible luck.

“Y-you! YOU BITCH!”

Amid the whining, Ashlyn could hear trees rustling and other voices sounding off in the distance. Had she not just woken from a nap, the girl might’ve taken her wake-er hostage with that pretty rifle. Or maybe she would have demanded to speak to his boss, manager, or mother about his horrid manners. Alas, still sleep-addled, Ashlyn felt the incoming forces of retribution and bolted out of the forest, into an open clearing, and ran out into the plains without bothering to think about where she was going.

Bill for his part, was left with explaining to Javier what the hell happened when the Mexican bounded over pistol drawn and just quick enough to see a shadow darting away. As Mrs. Grimshaw set his nose and smacked his head, Javier wouldn’t stop laughing about Bill losing a fistfight to a deer.

Uncle said it must have been a branch.

Bill remained quiet, sulking as Mr. Morgan drove his wagon in and listened to the tale.

“Nah. Must’ve been a twig.”

Bill really wished he had shot that girl.

hi hello I saw hockey au in your tags and came as fast as I could. hand it over

OAIOSUdoiaSUDoiASUdoAISduAISODu Oh buddy it's my. PJO OMG Check Please crossover fic right. Consuming my life. The thing is it's like, over 600 pages but it's nowhere NEAR ready to see the light of day *i am hiding* but i will give a summary synopsis because oh my god i love it so fuCKING MUCH

Percy and Nico are on the Falcs alongside the canon OMGCP Falcs, and there are 2 sides to the story - Percy and Will's side, and Jason and Nico's side. Lately I've been focusing on Jason and Nico's side.

It's kind of just following them in their lives. Jason is the top prospect for the upcoming draft, Nico is the backup goalie for the Falcs who got drafted the year before (he's like, UNREALISTICALLY good because I wanted to make him Special oaiudsoaisudaoiuds) and they meet in a bar in Vegas after the Falcs get their asses kicked by the Aces. Jason, unsurprisingly, is friends with/mentored by Kent Parson, they met once after an Aces game and the rest is history. Jason and Nico are both like, trying to teach each other about hockey and falling in love but they're not boyfriends but they want to be but they can't and they're supporting each other even though Shit keeps Happening.

Will and Percy's side of the story is kind of similar, except Percy has been with the Falcs for a few years. I honestly need to rewrite their side because So Much has changed in my views of their characters and the characters involved with their side that it's just not accurate anymore. There are moments where it crosses over with Jason and Nico's side too which don't align anymore since I've edited it to death, but basically Will and Percy's side is like, meetcute moment turns into a weirdly coincidental second meeting which turns into an "are you stalking me?" third meeting kind of vibe (Will works for the Stars and Percy just doesn't pick up on the Stars being in town every time he bumps into Will LMAO). It deals a lot with Percy figuring some shit out about himself and his past and his emotional situation.

I'm half considering adding more of the actual demigods from PJO in as the other characters on the Falcs/Aces - right now I have OCs, because it seemed easier and gave me more room to play with, but also the idea of like. Frank being the Aces goalie is....very fun, even though I also HC that Swoops is the Aces goalie

All the ages are fucked with because I Wanted To - all the Falcs/Aces are like, as old as they would be in 2018/19, but then the PJO characters are ALL fucked up. Percy Annabeth and Will are all around the same age, Jason and Nico are 18, Hazel is 16ish, and then I haven't really used any other PJO characters (though Leo and Piper have made an appearance in a side story that is becoming more and more canon, they are also both 18-19 ish). Frank is also around Jason's age I think, but he was only ever mentioned in reference to Jason's backstory and never in the actual story (yet).

SO YEAH HOCKEY AU MY BIG PROJECT MY BABYGIRL MY EMOTIoNAL SUPPORT FIC I have written up a full Falcs roster of OCs and have made timelines of events and even created my own hockey team set in Maine specifically so if I ever wanted to make this into an original fiction piece one day I could.

Ok SO!! I want to start a new Draco Malfoy x OC fanfic on Wattpad, but I GENUINELY need to pick between these ideas so PLEASE help meeee!! There's gonna be fluff, smut, and angst, so yeah!

Okay so idea 1: What if Harry Potter had a more psychotic twin sister (Wednesday vibes tbh)? She goes to Hogwarts and stuff after being expelled from Ilvermony, and she meets him, it's gonna have more of a darker feel to it bc in this one, the fmc is morally gray and stuff

So the second idea is a PJO crossover-ish, the fmc is a daughter of Ares but she gets a prophecy, saying she needs to make sure Voldemort doesn't start aiming for the demigod camps by keeping Harry safe from a distance and stuff, but then she meets Draco and they HATE eachother, and then she gets possessive, he gets possessive, and all they want is eachother bc Aphrodite decided to mess with their minds, so then the trope here is the "fuck destiny" one!

So the fmc in this one has rly strange powers, like her backstory is that she fell in a frozen lake and basically died for ten minutes, her brain scans aren't normal but she's perfectly fine, and the thing is she has nightmares about the grim reaper/ferryman, bc she accidentally got a spirit latched on to her and now she has powers of either blood or shadows and she's considered dangerous, and ANYWAY bc she sees things she was sent to a mental hospital, but then ofc the Wizarding world got a notice of that and Dumbledore decided to recruit her for Hogwarts and she and Draco meet, they hate eachother but then they gradually fall in love so like ya

Hey ❤️ first, thank you so much for the compliment, it really makes my day to know people get into my ff, secondly, I was wondering which one you meant since I have a few (mostly the Stark!Reader x Jason Todd, and Club Illusion) but I have a feeling that you might mean 'these comics' my first ever multi-chapter fanfiction that I abandoned due to personal issues and took out of my master list. Now if you meant that, I have bad news and good news: the bad news is that I don't have a continuation and I don't really plan to continue it, the good news is that I did actually start to make a remastered version. I decided a while ago to take the idea, work it over a little bit, change some things up here and there and rewrite it. i have ... i may have hyperfixated which i'm working on and lost a couple of hours researching the timeline. so, yes, i'm working on not one, but two batfam fics: one's oc-insert found family with the batfam, and the other's a dick grayson/reader ... and i honestly want to add a third one that's going to be cass-centric and a marvel crossover but hnggg, do i really wanna indulge myself? yes. yes, i do.

pushing the whole batfam aside (and ignoring my venom!oc in batfam idea), i also have a very long-length avengers + xmen + oc fic in my drafts with the complete timeline and all ... i've been stressed the past few weeks and this is how i vent, mbmb.

Basically endgame is King Jon Snow marries Mary Queen of Scots, and before she can be imprisoned and all that, she escapes with a large portion of her followers and becomes queen of the North.

Witch of Harrenhal: (Pjo/Hoo crossover) Medea, the Princess of Colchis and a legacy of Helios is reborn as the youngest child of Lady Shella Whent. The war of the five kings that sees her new mother killed trigger Medea into becoming the “Witch Queen from Harrenhal” and basically she manipulates/trades with Robb Stark at a failed Ref Wedding: Catelyn, Arya and the Northmen for the fealty of the Riverlands/Robb giving of his claim. Hence making her the Queen of the Riverlands.

Frozen Fires: Jon Snow at the last second decides “you know what, the nights watch isn’t for me” so he heads back south. Bad Idea: prequel-ish to “No it Shall” Annabeth is forced to kill Percy after he is turned insane by the gods to prevent him from leading the demigods in an attack on Olympus.

Upside down: (mcu idea) Yelena and Shan (oc) get into a fight. Yelena says that Shan has done nothing useful with their powers, that was specifically gifted to them for the purpose of helping their people. Hurt by the hard truth, Shan shapeshifts into the corpse of Natasha, bends backwards into a bridge position and mockingly says “we’re both upside down.”

Champagne problems: Another Drew Tanaka x Adrian (male oc). Drew can’t seem to grasp that her champagne problems are weighing down on her relationship with Adrian. (Main issue with Drew and Adrian’s love story is that Drew is a demigod, Adrian is mortal and yet, Adrian remains completely immune to Drew’s charmspeak. A notion that drives her insane. That’s the basic set up of their friendship) very much enemies to friends to lovers to exes.

You’ve probably answered this a million times, but I love Nikki so I’m going to ask again - what’s her favorite color? Food? Does she go to a regular school eventually? Does Steve become an actual dad or more like an uncle/older brother? What inspired you to create her?

oh my god I've never gotten to answer most of these thank you!!!!!!!!!! also I'm so glad you love Nikki that means so much to me!!

Nikki's favourite colours are pastels, mostly pink and blue and purple!!

Her favourite food tends to be a full Sunday roast (roast beef, roasted potatoes, yorkshire pudding, and gravy) because she learned to prepare it all on her own back when she still lived with Peggy and it was a weekly tradition that meant everything to her! She starts doing it again with Steve too, and Tony tries to organize one any time that she's with him on a weekend (unless they have to go to a gala but then she gets to see Harry so it's a fair trade). Other than that, she loves milkshakes, strawberry shortcakes (Sharon's nickname for her), french toast, and sugar cookies — basically Nikki just has a huge sweet tooth tbh!

She does go to regular school eventually! After the events of Winter Soldier, Steve leaves DC and moves back to Brooklyn and Nikki moves with him. When he's away on searches for Bucky, she stays with Tony and sometimes Clint (in this I hc that he has an official apartment in the city where he used to stay when working and will come up when Nikki needs a guardian), but as part of the move, Nikki finally got to go to real school and got enrolled to start her freshman year at Midtown High! Winter Soldier fucked her up in a lot of ways (more than anything, it's the arc where she has to come to terms with the fact that she was raised as a child soldier/spy and that a lot of her life was actually fucked up) and Steve is trying to help her experience at least a partially normal life, so they agree that school is a good place to start. And she makes it an entire semester before things go to shit with Ultron and then another year before Civil War, so it did kind of work!

And Steve very much becomes a dad to her! It's actually a pretty quick thing, a road trip to DC and then the plot of Avengers kind of speeding up their bonding process, and Nikki is absolutely a daddy's girl and has Steve wrapped around her finger! They end up honestly incredibly close and it's just very sweet and precious. Nikki is also still only 9 years old when they meet, so while she's not a baby by any means (and has had Tony as a father figure for her entire life, and Clint as a guardian), she's still at an age where she really does need an actual parent. Peggy filled that role until she couldn't anymore, and Tony always tried (but Fury refused to let him have custody no matter how much he fought), but her life was really just living at Shield and bouncing between Clint, Natasha, Coulson, and Maria depending on who was on which missions at any given moment, so Steve doesn't hesitate to have her live with him instead.

I was first inspired to create Nikki after watching The Avengers, though she was quickly designed to fit around TASM too (which later changed to mcu spiderman). I don't entirely remember how it started but I watched it so many times in theatres and within a week I had both she and my original Kat Aliano. But honestly I've had her for so long now, and she's been so precious to me the entire time, that I don't really remember making her I just remember her existing and I loved her from day one (though fun fact, she started off as a PJO crossover oc!)

Okay so in terms of what’s on my AO3, I have Check Please, All For the Game, Sharp Zero, HP, and Miraculous Ladybug. I also have The Forbidden LOTR and PJO Fanfiction (as in, I’ve written it, but it’s never seeing the light of day)

fun fact: this is a very short fic that I wrote when I was 15 and basically forgot about until recently, and then I reread it recently and went holy shit?? I pulled NO punches????

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the wildest one you’ve written?

Not a ton? I think a lot of the fandoms I write for don’t really mesh that well. That being said, the aforementioned orphaned PJO fic is actually a PJO/ML crossover, so there’s that

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Nope! Sometimes I get comments that are just.... really confusing? And a more common thing is that in my AFTG fic I’ll get comments from people who are so focused on Andreil (or the most common ships in general) to the point that like. they miss the point of what I actually wrote. Those are annoying but they’re not hate, they’re very enthusiastic, they’re just... enthusiastic about a story I’m not writing? So it’s a bit frustrating.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No sjflskgjhgf I struggle enough to write kissing, I think if I ever tried to write smut my brain would just shut down. I’ve managed some fade-to-blacks (which are mostly in WIPs that haven’t been posted) but they rely HEAVILY on the powers of implication

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, although I have occasionally made a brief go of it, not to post, more as an exercise for myself in a language that I’m learning. Anyway I never finish them so I’m gonna say no

Not really? I’ve definitely group brainstormed fics and then written them (the best example of this being Q&A (AFTG), which was the product of a truly off-the-walls group chat), but I tend to do all the actual writing myself. I think the way I write would drive a co-writer up the wall since it’s very disorganized and I don’t write stuff down because ~I know what’s gonna happen I don’t need notes~ and it would infuriate me if I was co-writing with me lmao, so I won’t inflict that on someone else

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I regularly move through ships I’m SUPER focused on, like it’s kind of a rotation. I will forever and always ship Percabeth though.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Okay so if you follow me at @birlwrites you may know this already, but i have this ‘warmups’ document that is just like, random ideas i get that i don’t necessarily want to finish but i just want to try out for a bit? and i have a rule that once a ‘warmup’ is more than 10 pages long (so 11+) then it has to be moved to its own document, just to make scrolling through the warmups doc easier. but usually, a warmup only passes 10 pages when i’m INTO it. so i have a bazillion wips i will probably never finish. i complain about this a lot. i have so many wips. i don’t need more.

here’s one: it’s titled ‘interrobang doesn’t know they’re dating’, it’s basically a full outline for a chowder/tango fic and it would be SO cool if i could ever like. get around to writing it. but i am constantly swamped with writing projects, so it’s probably not gonna happen. if anyone’s interested in adopting it though i’d be down for that!! i think it’s a fun idea i just almost def won’t write it myself

15. What are your writing strengths?

SNAPPY DIALOGUE AND SNARKY INTERNAL MONOLOGUE. my writing is COMEDIC, 90% of my ideas are based on a funny snippet that popped into my head, a lot of my worldbuilding is based on ‘hey you know what would be hilarious’ (whenever i explain how larai selects a chosen one in the rainfall universe i start laughing, which is a STARK contrast to how it plays out on the page), i love writing funny stuff!!

also i think my writing sounds nice, a lot of the time i pick words/syntax based on sound and flow so there’s that too. and i have lots of ideas! i don’t struggle much with writer’s block because a) i have a lot of strategies to deal with it and b) i have a lot of ideas to help get around it/work with it

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

PHYSICAL INTIMACY LMAO, sometimes in my end notes on shippy fics you can see me complaining ‘it took me literally 4 hours to write that very brief kiss’. also sometimes the humor in my writing gets in the way a bit, i have to very consciously put it away so characters can actually have serious, genuine emotions. also i don’t like outlining and i tend not to get betas for fanfiction so like..... i do my best continuity-wise but having really tightly plotted stories is just not my focus lol. (and i do put more effort into that for original stuff, it’s just fic where i kind of go wild)

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If the reader’s supposed to know what it means, then writing it in another language is iffy for me. (stuff like terms of endearment which come up a lot in fic are fine imo, you can just put a note in to translate them and your reader will prob remember)

If the pov character isn’t supposed to understand it, and it doesn’t matter if the reader understands it, then ig it’s fine? but unless you already speak the other language (and i am NOT confident in my ability to translate english into literally any other language), then i think it’s way easier to just note that a character’s speaking x language and provide tone indicators, body language cues, etc. so the reader understands as much as the pov character.

That being said there are def times when it’s used super effectively--the dialogue in spanish in cemetery boys comes to mind! that’s not fanfic but it’s still creative writing so w/e

so i guess it comes down to: does actually writing out the dialogue in the other language serve a purpose? if it doesn’t, then you’re filling up the screen with words your reader isn’t likely to understand, which i try to avoid doing

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

so the first fandom i actually *wrote* for was PJO, but i distinctly remember creating warrior cats OCs when i was little. i never actually did anything w them but i had them and my favorite was a riverclan warrior named shellstream i remember this VIVIDLY

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

oh boy. okay so this is hard because i feel like i’m continuously improving as a writer. like in the sense that my writing is getting closer and closer to really matching my own taste? my favorites tend to always be my current projects as a result. and i do really love set those ghosts alight (HP) but it feels a little like cheating to say a fic i haven’t even finished writing yet. even though it’s def not cheating, that’s just the direction my brain is taking it.

i’m gonna say and then what? (OMGCP) because i’m super proud of the prose (especially ch 2 aka the first actual prose chapter), survived by (HP) for SUCCESSFULLY WRITING AN EMOTION and making readers cry :), and Q&A (AFTG) because i’m literally the one who wrote it and yet it still makes me wheeze. those are all fics i reread occasionally, because i’m big enough to admit i enjoy rereading my old stuff! (just like. to a point. some of my old stuff i can’t look at anymore because all the mistakes stick out to me like they have spotlights shining directly on them)

I’ve written for.... literally one fandom published and 5 unpublished. We’ll stick with published since I don’t want to expose myself lmao: Just Silmarillion because I’m a high key nerd. That and the whole fandom and work facinates me to the extreme because it is so open ended and nearly any interpritation of the text can be canon!

what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

All The Ways To Love - 198 (a longfic about Maedhros and Fingon in an arranged marriage finding exactly what they need in each other, side appearances by baby feanorians)

Make You Mine (the way you should be) - 99 (a short Kidnap Family fic featuring prophetic dreams E&E who have known Maedhros and Maglor would always be coming for them and loved them for it)

Fëanor Finds Out Sort Of But Not Really - 78 (another Russingon fic about Maedhros and Fingon’s secret relationship being found out at the consequences that go along with that)

From The Ashes, Rising - 69 (a 13k four chapter fic-- medium length?-- about Maedhros and Fingon growing up and falling in love, a Modern AU.)

do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Always. Comments are one of the best things I, as an author, can receive and I adore each and every person who takes time to put their thoughts and appreciation into words. Thank you so much to all of you who have done that for me!!

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hooooo boy that’s a hard one. So many of mine have angsty endings on purpose because pain is always fun. Still if I had to pick one, I would choose Learn Your Place, another fic in my Modern AU “To Build the Bonds That Tie,” featuring middle school age Maedhros questioning his sexuality and being told that he doesn’t belong.

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Very rarely, and I almost never publish them. The only one I have published as of right now is very old and embarrassing so I won’t link it but it was about Finrod, Turgon, and a self-insert OC being tossed into The Hobbit to try to retrieve the silmaril-arkenstone.

have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes I actually got my first bit very recently and I laughed so hard I almost threw up. I just don’t understand why people keep reading my fics if they know from the first few sentences they don’t like them. I’ve read my fair share of fics that weren’t my style and somehow I’ve never left a single piece of hate on any of them.

do you write smut? if so what kind?

Absolutely. I write everything from very kinky sex to soft aftercare and all the variations in between. The one thing I absolutely refuse to do is non-con although I am okay with sex used as a method of torture. I love love love writing LGBTQ+ themes and do my best to incorporate as much diversity as I can into all my pieces NSFW and otherwise just because they’re not realistic if I don’t.

have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

have you ever had a fic translated?

 I’ve gotten one request but the person who asked dropped it and never got back to me :(

have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! A few of my fics are based off of an old RP server I was in with a couple friends and so as such the ideas are theirs as well as mine and I at least consider the fics co-written.

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

My (first) Modern AU. I have it two thirds finished and only a third published but the entire idea is so enormous that I don’t think I will possibly be able to finish it. I adore my baby and I’ll do my best but I think I made the right decision splitting it into seperate fics so that we all can enjoy the parts I do get out instead of waiting ages for things to go in chronological order.

what are your writing strengths?

I adore writing emotion and description! I feel most comfortable writing long winding explanations of the scenery and people that put you (as people have told me) right in the scene.

what are your writing weaknesses?

oh my god smooth dialogue. I struggle so much it’s painful. That’s the part of any fic that takes me the longest because I sit there saying each part out loud to myself like it’s a play and trying to decide if it’s at all reasonable.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Yes! Absolutely. I love including in-verse languages in my writing in both names, pet names, and even small sentances, but it really really bothers me when people will go on a winding speech or a chunk of dialogue in another language and then have to translate the whole thing at the bottom. Another huge pet peeve of mine is when people use words in other languages and then *don’t* translate them at the bottom. I can’t at all get the full vibe of the fic if there’s words I don’t understand!

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.... I wrote a self insert fic when I was 10 about this one elf statue at the Santa’s Village Amusement Park in NH (please don’t ask)

but if that doesn’t count --please tell me it doesn’t-- then PJO and I still write the occasional fic for them now because PJO is just iconic.

what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Omg that’s a hard one. I really struggled picking just one because there’s so many that I’m proud of but if I had to pick a genuine favorite I’d say... Inure, a fic I wrote a couple months ago detailing one of the darkest experiences of my life from Maedhros’s perspective. It was both incredibly hard to write and extremely cathartic for me and will remain one of the most terrifying things that I have ever had the courage to publish.

Mind the tags though, it is quite dark and can be triggering if you’ve had an experience similar to mine!
