Something bothers me about Ahsoka's training.
You said it was secure, but the training is done in a place that is not at all suitable and she falls (several times) on an extremely hard surface. There is no end to the training, no time limit or victory, she just has to hold on until she passes out. And no one comes to look after her when we see her stagger from the FIRST time. Even Rex, used to worse on Kamino, worries.
Then, for what the training brings, it trains her endurance but NOT how to get out of the situation. Anakin is an overpowered child of the Force, he can stay under enemy fire for a long time, but it is completely useless for another Jedi. If they do not escape or defeat their opponents, they’re dead.
If Ahsoka survived Order 66 (other than luck, Rex's hesitation, help from others...), it's because she managed to escape, she didn't stay inside to take the shots (less than a minute so stamina is not very useful). From this point of view, the Jedi test was much more useful since she moves and gets rid of the threat in a limited environment (test which uses droids programmed to more closely match the tactics of battledroids, so also useful in war).
Even to train his perception of the opponent's intentions (not very useful against robots), it is not very effective. Anakin gives no advice, he never praise here, he's even dismissive for her well-being. It's more of an exercise than anything else, but with no definite end (other than getting knocked out).
This training would be useful if it was safer and more progressive (because clones are actually better than droids) and as a supplement. In the end, Anakin is very Anakin. He doesn't want to lose her because it will hurt him, but her immediate safety and well-being doesn't bother him.
And if Ahsoka does not protest, it is because she is 14, she trusts her mentor. She doesn't know anything about war so she doesn't know what training she needs. She is too young and inexperienced to know any better and protest.
(but I think I'm just bitter because Filoni added a scene that no one needed to prove that Anakin is great, Ahsoka the best, and that the other Jedi died because they weren't as clever. Even though we already knew that she was strong with TCW and that the Jedi were taken by surprise by people they trust) (and really, if it was someone else instead of Rex, he would have ordered to shoot at her, and Ahsoka would be dead)
(and Anakin trains the clones to shoot a Jedi. Jesse was there)
On a side note, I really like your new chapter. Oddly funny and emotional.
I debated whether I should even publish this ask, because while I respect your right to having your own take, I strongly disagree with the vast majority it, and it largely baffles me.
In response to this ask.
It seems your major complaints with Anakin's training is that she falls...on a non padded surface??? And that he's over-training her for a difficult situation that she should likely be able to escape?
Please keep in mind that while she is a child, she's also not a helpless child who needs to be babied. At the time of the training, she has already survived battles. Anakin has already seen her in action and is aware of her current abilities.
Of course if it was in a live scenario, she should look for alternative solutions. Anakin knows she's smart and can think outside the box. There are infinite scenarios she may potentially be in, and in every single one she will have different contexts to consider. That is not the point of this exercise. The point of this exercise is so that if she is under fire, for however long she needs to be given the situation, she'll make it out alive.
I don't have the time or energy to refute all of your points, nor do I have interest in prolonging discussion on this topic (perhaps you could find an Ahsoka-centric blog who would be interested!).
And while Anakin is a flawed character, I am also not remotely interested in bashing him. Likewise, while I don't agree with all of Dave Filoni's choices, I am also utterly uninterested in bashing him on my blog, as he still is responsible for the creation of many things that I love.
While the episode may have felt unnecessary for you, I enjoyed it, thought it was told beautifully from both a narrative and cinematographic perspective, and felt it made sense for the context of the story as well as for both Anakin and Ahsoka's characters. If the episode is upsetting to you, I recommend not thinking about it!
Follow ups on this topic will not be answered. I believe I have already clearly articulated my response in my previous ask response linked above. Thanks for understanding!
And thanks for liking the last chapter of the Prime Override!

Every time I'm sad, I listen to 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This', 'Overcome', 'Lost Without You', 'Ghost of You', 'Lover of Mine' and think of Evajacks. And the crying ensues.
Someone pls listen to them too and tell me you don't think of evajacks.

So Halo 3 turns 15 today and I’d like to voice my Very Strong Opinions about whether or not it should get an Anniversary remaster.
Now, it’s already five years past when the previous two games got remasters, and to not complete the trilogy - especially for one of the highest selling video games of all time - feels like the most blatant disrespect. Halo 3 has a very special place in my heart as well as many others’ and it deserves the same amount of love and treatment as the other two installments.
I know that the fanbase is very mixed when it comes to a potential H3A, but the most common argument that I see against it is “H3′s graphics still hold up today”. Yes, I do agree that it’s still a very beautiful game, but I would just like to point out two things:
1) Many of H3′s textures and models are in desperate need of a makeover, especially when you compare it to H2A (and no, I’m not talking about the pre-rendered cutscenes). H2A has beautiful models and H3 could really use them, espeically the Arbiter. It’s extremely jarring to go from seeing him in all his silver-armoured glory to suddenly what looks like a weird bronze knock-off that hardly even looks shiny. (Not to mention the H3 Sangheili models seem to be completely incapable of facial expression and emoting.) The H3 human models also all have very visible polygons and it veers a little into uncanny valley.
2) For the love of fuck, a remaster isn’t just about giving a game better graphics; it’s about being a love letter to the game. H2A is a perfect example of treating a game with the utmost love and respect while enhancing and improving upon the experiences of the original version. A remaster allows players to experience their favourite game all over again in a new light, and that doesn’t mean that the original is erased. If you want to play the original, it will always still be there.
Anniversary remasters aren’t pointless remakes - they’re celebrations.
And Halo 3 deserves to be celebrated.
So, happy birthday to the game that made my childhood and still makes me happy well into my adulthood.

Writing is fun and all, but it don't compare to Roleplays.
Like yeah, you can make a story by yourself, but roleplays are way better because
1: Like theatre, happens in real time
2: Like Writing, has a complicated story
3: Theatre mf's love interactive things (Roleplays are entirely interactive
4: Somewhat of a balance, and you need to ask perms to do crazy shit (like murder)
5: Roleplays are just rad in general
6: Its literally writing, but with different people.
7: Usually unscripted, unlike theatre

what's weird about the fantasy high drama is that like. it seems to me like people forget d&d is primarily a) a game you play with your friends and also b) luck based.
I mean it's fine to say that "nothing felt like a challenge" and "they just dominated everything and there weren't any stakes" but like. it's not as if they weren't up against huge threats. they lost the mall fight. the last stand was an onslaught of enemies. they fought a dozen dragons from an airship. the fights were hard. they're just really good. they've had very good dice luck in general this season and are all very high level and highly specialized. fig is gonna beat deception and performance checks. adaine's gonna figure out the arcana. riz is gonna succeed investigations. like. for some reason their strategical competence and wisely picked abilities are. a downside? a disappointment?
the thing about d&d that you need to remember is it's first and foremost a game. it's mostly random and it takes you down weird paths and you're playing to have fun with your friends. the dice are literally telling the story that it's their time, it's their year. they've struggled enough. they've trained enough. they're good at what they do. and in my post about the academic/domestic/personal stressors being the focus, d&d doesn't have any other system to work them out than rolling different skills. that's what d&d is. brennan set specific challenge levels for different tasks and the players strategized to prioritize which abilities they were strongest in. the challenges were there. and the players rose to them. they were both smart in their delegation of responsibilities and lucky with their dice rolls. of which, both are foundations of d&d.
don't mistake them being good players and getting lucky with there being no hardship. just because they smashed through the wall, that doesn't mean the wall wasn't strong. they were just stronger.

Actually, I'm gonna ramble about Pac and Ramón for a bit:
Pac knows how it feels to be abandoned– after all, he was abandoned in the orphanage after his parents' divorce. He knows the trauma of waiting for that person to come back, but ultimately never coming back, and feeling like maybe it was his fault for that, and the need to prove you deserve to be loved.
They both had to grow up quickly, albeit for different yet similar reasons. Pac had to grow up quickly because he had to take care and protect his best friend, Mike, and at the same time fight for their survival after the orphanage shut down. Ramón had to grow up because his other father, Spreen, didn't like how childish he was (the moment with the boucy ball comes to mind**) and then he lost his 1st life, which meant he had to be extra careful.
They both also only have had one other person for most of their lives, someone they can trust 100%. It has always been Fit and Ramón & Pac and Mike for the longest time. Of course, other people have come and gone, but in the end, it has always been the two of them.
I think the reason Pac is so affectionate and caring of Ramón is because he knows, he understands him. He wants Ramón to get to experience all the things he couldn’t. Have a big adoption party? Yes, of course. Have two lovable parents who cherish him? Done and dusted. Have domestic and relaxing activities with close family? That can be be arranged, just say a day.
All in all, I think them being in each others lives heals them respectively. Pac being able to love and take care of Ramón helps him heal his inner child. Ramón being able to get the second parent he always wanted (while also making sure Fit is not alone) helps him get to feel like a silly kid once again.
I think that's beautiful.
(** If you dont know, Ramón once had a slime ball he used to play catch with. One time, he gave the ball to Spreen in hopes of playing with him, but Spreen scolded him for being childish and that he had to grow up. After that, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ramón with the ball again [i could be wrong, though!])

The criticism that I've seen that Gwiles/Ghostflower receives that they "are only so connected bc they're both spiders" is silly cuz idk how to break it to ya but that's the whole point.
The point of the first movie and the reason why Spider Gang got so attached to each other so quickly is cuz they thought they were going through all of their struggles alone until they've met. They repeat this several times in the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because what they're doing is hard and they feel like no one understands them, not really, because no one in their universes has the same powers and backstories, until they found out that there are others who went through basically the same things they were going through. And it is what brought the whole team closer, and Miles and Gwen as love interests. It's not that they're only attracted to each other because of that - Miles and Gwen even started getting along before they knew about each other's powers - but that was exactly what made them (I'm talking about the whole team now as well as M and G as a potential couple) so considerate of each other from the start.
That's the plot (or one of many plots) of the movie.
