I did a writeup on Lady Ballers and I dunno, it's not perfect, but it felt good to write so maybe give it a shot.
I didn't include pictures cause this movie doesn't deserve them.

Actually I think we should talk about how incredibly fucked up it is for sapphic women to say shit like "I'm no better than a straight man 😔" when attracted to a woman in a way that isn't 100% pure and wholesome, or act like men's attraction to women is inherently dirty, predatory, or objectifying.

girl experiences gender euphoria and is immediately slammed by grief
for @litttlittt <3. this was supposed to be a portrait of caroline hill, but litta mentioned tim looking like janet when dressed as caroline and identity issues and angst and things spiraled
something about tim not knowing if he's his mother's child or bruce's or neither's.
figuring out the looks:

i wanted janet to have that poofy 70s hair

I'm not blaming the op of the original post, or trying to imply anything about them as a person. and I don't want to single out this post in particular, because the issue is an broadly reaching trend rather than any one individual happening to write a post in five minutes one time.
but I really Really wish we'd stop and think if it's a good idea to say "girls turning into boys makes them inherently less interesting" on the transgender website
picking a privileged group to be the butt of a joke because it's lighthearted when nobody's actually getting hurt by doing so Only Works when everyone within that group is actually privileged. making jokes about how men are lesser than doesn't Actually affect the people who are actually within power, but Does chip away at the confidence and comfort of marginalized men who are In these communities to be exposed to it.
and the issue isn't about any one joke or poorly worded discussion in particular, but it's difficult to articulate why it can feel so alienating and unsafe to have things like this be so common within my communities without sounding ridiculous or risk being made fun of for not being able to take a joke. because the framing of implied privilege makes it easy to twist those feelings alienation into the entitlement that's assumed with men taking issue with being the butt Of a joke.
I simply think "this type of person is inherently lesser than" should be reexamined and thrown out as a talking point, even in a lighthearted context. because there will always be vulnerable people within those groups who already Hear that they are lesser than for existing

Having a complex, queer, in-good-faith identity that others might not immediately get is not the same thing as being a violent bigot, and frankly, I think people need to remember that just because you don't "get" an identity, that doesn't mean it is hurting you specifically. Being a bigot is harmful, being a human being with complex experiences is not. Don't equate the two.

You can really when people who're both Atla and DC fans don't read comics when they compare Zutara to Dickkory and think Zuko is like Dick and that Katara is like Kory instead of the other way around

How do your faith + trans support interlock with each other?
(This isn't me looking for a fight, I genuinely want to know.)

a lot of the talk about Bushnell is reminding me of my "the "mentally ill" have their right to violence revoked" thing again
like. When you're deemed mentally ill, suddenly you must stress how you are more likely to be a victim of violence than a perpetrator to be deemed as human. Because any violence you commit, as a crazy person, is bad. It cannot carry rationale, because you are crazy. If I, as an autistic person, hit someone who was hurting me and got in legal trouble, I can be referred to as just "crazy" instead of as a victim responding to an aggressor. It's an underdiscussed area of dehumanization.
And that's before we talk about intersectionality, and before we talk about how this factors into the idea of ODD, and the "violent" responses patients have to doctors (including those who simply aren't white, and those forced on meds that hurt them, and those resisting sexual assault, and-).
But this is not just interpersonally political, it is political at scale. Black men were targeted by schizophrenia diagnoses during the Civil Rights era (and this is also around when schizophrenia became a "scary" illness). The crazy cannot have valid political criticisms, as a movement (remember that being "crazy" is a vector of oppression abd marginalization) or as individuals in other movements.
Ive seen both the sentiment of "oh Aaron is gonna be slandered as crazy" and exactly what the sentiment warns of- "we can't valorize suicide from the mentally ill". And the first isn't wrong, because society at large does view the "crazy" as lacking political agency, but it's lacking.
Bushnell had been trying very hard to get out of his military contract without being imprisoned at best, while witnessing genocide and knowing he was complicit. He may not have had clinical depression normally, but that would inspire a mental rational response of situational depression (and yes, mental health issues can be a rational response to horrible circumstances). Further, I know of instances of self immolation that WERE done by people who did have long standing mental health issues and were done to protest the treatment they'd experienced that caused them and that resulted from their existence. Mental illness and divergence from the norm is more complicated than just "these people are incapable of rationality, they are incapable of political thought, and they are incapable of agency".

Losing my mind hearing that people think being punitively misgendered as they/ them only happens to she/her trans women and not also he/ him trans men
Edit: glad I dug through the shitty comments enough to find op saying she didn't mean the phrasing of a particular sentence to imply this didn't happen to trans men, she wasn't expecting the post to blow up and was just writing about the things she's experiencing in a casual rant way. Internet ok sometimes. (Still other people in the comments thinking the above though.)
#why do people keep thinking that trans men don't experience transphobia#I've seen this happen!#I'm so tired#and i feel like i never see folks talking about trans men other than specifically trans masc spaces#unless its in relation to trans women#and i get that its because trans women are under public scrutiny in a more weaponized way#because transmysogyny is real#but im going crazy#and i feel like no one engages with the posts i make like this#which makes me feel like pulling my hair out even more#I'm absolutely not saying that trans women dont get targeted in a more violent way#they are#but trans men are also out here facing transphobia and it's not just like accidental or a byproduct#and like reminder to everyone including myself that people only see the slices of life they see#and none of us know how representative of the whole they are#and practically speaking we're not gonna get the data to answer that#so people can very much see x supported and y not in one space and others see y supported and x not in another#and both of those are real experiences the people in question have#idk i feel like people treat trans men as kinda unserious#and thats its own tag essay#Anyway I feel like no one's going to interact with this post#And I feel perhaps mistakenly but I feel like ppl think this kind of post makes me terfy and that's why they don't interact?#And I don't know why people do shit or don't#But it does just make me feel more like this#This being that people don't treat trans mens issues seriously

Even if you're only hearing about it now, the issues with Tumblr's transphobia and refusal to address the Literal hate groups on it's platform aren't new. Tumblr's shitty moderation as been an issue for Years, both in its discrimination And it's inability (or more likely, its unwillingness) to remove genuinely harmful content. Tumblr is not your friend and it is not "the last good website", and you need to be willing to admit that there are currently unreconcilable issues with your Beloved Hellsite.
If you don't see that shit, good! But don't decide it isn't happening because it isn't on Your dash.

I'm sure other queer people will relate, but I always get apprehensive around The Talk (as in, non-queer people talking about queerness in the abstract), and that's the topic my shul decided to land on today during lunch. And I feel so fortunate to have found them first because they were talking about a previous member and how they want him to visit and they want his boyfriend to visit so they can all scramble to feed and welcome him. I'm imagining a hoard of people just shoveling food at this member and his boyfriend if (and hopefully when) they decide to visit 😭

#just saw a post that was like 'if you have religious or moral objections that stop you from providing certain types of medical care maybe#you shouldn't work in healthcare' (paraphrased) and...#what a way to look at the world tbh#like. they're talking about me i think - i am a conscientious objector when it comes to euthanasia#(which granted has come up exactly twice and both cases in a theoretical capacity only this is not a frequent request to me)#and... i am also a good doctor#last week i told someone that her weight doesn't matter to her health with receipts to prove it and she cried#no one had ever told her that before#and that was something that came from me specifically. that was something i would not trust all of the GPs in my practice - a practice of#excellent and compassionate GPs! - to say#i am verifiably doing good in my job that is coming from specifically who i am as a person#i cannot put that down when it comes to issues i care deeply about#fundamentally the fact that i cannot put it down is what makes me a good doctor#i think that's what i'm trying to get at#the reason that i do well by my patients is that i practice out of my values and my ethics#if i did not stand on that core i would not stand at all#so you can't have it both ways. you can't have engaged and active and compassionate healthcare providers without sometimes those engaged an#active providers having things they do not feel comfortable doing#and it is to everyone's service if they are up front about it and do not try to hide (i am suspicious of people who try to hide this)#i am literally figuring this all out as i type hence the v long tag ramble and also being nowhere near the post that started this train#(honestly in med school we talked so much about ethics as like. abortion! euthanasia! trans rights! and the ethics in practice is the littl#things. do you apologise when you mess up. how do you manage a consult with your patient with paranoid dementia and her child in the same#room at one time - or one by one bc that's fraught too. (that one's on top i had one of those today.) how do you act with grace when#you're a bit stressed and your patient is a bit stressed and the nurse wants to add five more things to your book. the day to day ethics is#SUCH a bigger thing when you come to actual practice.)#this is obviously entirely about me and leans on the fact that i largely do think i am doing a good job i am really feeling my own way#to a Thought. but i think to a certain extent it is generalisable

Hey man, I don’t think you should reblog from spacelazarwolf. He’s a genocide supporter and having people like him in the community gives people amazing ammunition to use against people who believe in transandrophobia.
People have made many accusations against avi to me and upon looking into them not a single one has been true. He's been being called a zionist since way before he said anything about i/p on the basis of him being jewish alone. He has a long post in his F.A.Q. about how he isn't a zionist and doesn't support the israeli government, put up only because people wouldn't leave him alone about it, and he still gets these accusations anyway. He literally doesn't even believe in states as a concept. If someone has genuine evidence that anyone in transandrophobia conversations actually supports the genocide or denies that it is one, feel free to share. But right now, there are tons of antisemitic accusations being thrown at jewish bloggers around here and I'm not going to just believe everything I'm told.

not to take the shit & farts show too seriously, but guillermo being turned is a matter of bodily autonomy. and the idea that nandor refused to do it for 13 years because he knew whats "really" best for guillermo is vomit-inducing. as a trans person i've dealt with far too many people like that. its a bad idea and a bad headcanon.
