im a firm egg pilgrim believer and also that if scollace were to ever be a thing they would Never be endgame. which works out pretty nicely
#scott pilgrim#thunder rambles#the timeline is ramona is trans woman and after months of being with her scott starts to question his own identity#less like 'what if im trans' or 'what if im bi' and more just 'what if i could be queer in literally any way'#which hasnt occurred to him in any conceivable way#and he experiements with ramona and then they decide to have an open relationship and maybe#maybe!#during this time scott hooks up with wallace#and maybe theyve kissed once or twice while drunk before this in college but w/e#and they have a thing for a month or two and its nice but not all that serious and actually it does more to bring scott and wallace together#as friends#than it does anything else#because scott is gradually more and more open about the way hes been questioning#and also in general because this is post-canon scott is a better person in general and sure wallace was awre of this theoretically#but now hes seeing it firsthand and they become the closest and most genuinely friends theyve been in ages#and then they kinda stop hooking up and then a while later scott's egg cracks#and its like the umbrella academy car meme. what if ur egg was slowly cracking and the overlap between ur experimentation#with ur identity and the egg fully cracking finally allowed u to mess around with ur cool gay roommate#for a limited period of time before your identities no longer line up for that anymore#anyway yea also ramona realises shes kinda nonbinary and has a sort of transgender 2: electric boogaloo moment#gives all her leftover estrogen to scott😭😭or something

judging by the "fixes" they've applied to fern and i'm fairly sure also to a few other genes, they likely intend to flatten and generic-ify EVERY gene that does anything interesting with especially the top feathers portion of the wings. :/
#flight rising#the ridiculously strict standardization guidelines they seem to put every gene through recently are actively detrimental to looking good#i don't know why they can't seem to get the idea that different body shapes showing the same gene a little differently is a GOOD thing#rather than every single gene appearing to be the exact same flat pasted on texture. undel's book had a whole thing on that how'dthey forge#we like it when each dragon's shape does something a little unique with gene expression! it makes it worth actually having different breeds#i think whatever tone-deaf standardization guidelines they're following are likely also actively detrimental to ancient breed design creati#and might even be part of the reason why we haven't gotten any dragons with stuff like turtle shells for the secondary gene yet#because under the current personality-sucking apparent standardization guidelines they would not be allowed to try to adapt any modern gene#to a shell-backed dragon shape#because tweaking them to work on that shape and actually look good would be considered by their standards changing them too much#even though the difference on a majority of genes wouldn't be any greater than the difference between some genes on skydancer vs other wing#under the standardization rules they seem to follow they may literally not be allowed to design even any ancient dragons w/ nonwing seconda#much less with any truly mold-breaking shapes or concepts of wings. they seem to struggle just with figuring out how to apply it to feather#off the top of my had some wing-“wing”-and secondary gene area ideas that would be absolutely possible but i'm fairly sure they'd never do-#“feathers” are actually smaller membranous wings like a fractal. mane. elaborate peacock tail instead of wings. body fins. head frill. bell#throat fan. head crest. overlapping hard scalelike spines flattened into something like a spinosaurus crest. sailfin 2!. inorganic wings.#all of these things are entirely feasible and i have thought on how to adapt genes to them extensively but they would likely never do it#because peregrine-for example-would look perfectly fine-better even- applied to the trailing edges of overlapping armadillo plates#except fr's standardization rules seem to be so ridiculously strict that they would say it can only be on the trailing edge of a wing shape#they just seem to want every gene to be the exact same pasted on flat texture on everything even when it makes no sense on the dragon shape#and even when following that design principle actively looks worse. which it mostly does. it demands they suck the 3d out of everything.#so we end up with a game where every dragon looks like someone put a cutout of a texture on it and adapting it to the 3d shape is a “bug”#give us MORE breeds with anatomical features that cause small but consistent deviations in the depiction of genes!#not less!#it's the tundra butterfly dark manes all over again#we LIKE slight variety that makes sense on the dragon's unique shape! unique forms demand unique adaptations! not flattening!#undel wrote an entire section of an artbook about how patterns should be adapted to your subject's anatomy and shape how did they all forge#is this one of those corporate “to preserve our brand identity” things? is it a loud minority/“listening to the wrong feedback” thing?#it's gotten to the point that there's basically no point even scrying most breeds until at least a year after they come out#because inevitably they're going to abruptly “fix” every single gene that looks interesting and good

What No One Tells You About Writing Fantasy
Every author has their preferred genres. I love fantasy and sci-fi, but began with historical fiction. I hated all the research that historical fiction demands and thought, if I build my own world, no research required.
Boy, was I wrong.
So to anyone dipping their toe into fantasy/sci-fi, here’s seven things I wish I knew about the genres before I committed to writing for them.
1. You still have to research. Everything.
If you want any of your fantasy battle sequences, or your space ships, or your droids and robots, or your fictional government and fictional politics to read at all believable.
In sci-fi, you research astronomy, robotics, politics, political science, history, engineering, anthropology. In fantasy, you have to research historical battle tactics, geography, real-world mythology, folklore, and fairytales, and much of it overlaps with science fiction.
I say you *have to* assuming you want your work to be original and unique and stand out from the crowd. Fanfic writers put in the research for a 30k word smut fic, you can and will have to research for your original work.
2. Naming everything gets exhausting
I hate coming up with new names, especially when I write worlds and places divorced from Earthly customs and can’t rely on Earthly naming conventions. You have to name all your characters, all your towns, villages, cities, realms, kingdoms, planets, galaxies, star systems.
You have to name your rebel faction, your imperial government, significant battles. Your spaceships, your fantasy companies and organizations, your magic system, made-up MacGuffins, androids, computer programs. The list goes on and on and on.
And you have to do it all without it sounding and reading ridiculous and unpronounceable, or racist. Your fantasy realms have to have believable naming patterns. It. Gets. Exhausting.
3. It will never read like you’re watching a movie
Do you know how fast movies can cut between scenes? Movies can balance five plotlines at once all converging with rapid edits, without losing their audience. Sometimes single lines of dialogue, or single wordless shots are all a scene gets before it cuts. If you try to replicate that by head-hopping around, you will make a mess.
It’s perfectly fine to write like you’re watching a movie, but you can’t rely on visual tricks to get your point across when all you have is text on a page – like slow mo, lens flares, epically lit cinematic shots, or the aforementioned rapid edits.
It doesn’t have to, nor should it, look like a movie. Books existed long before film, so don’t let yourself get caught up in how ~cinematic~ it may or may not look.
4. Your space opera will be compared to Star Wars and Star Trek
And your fairy epic will be compared to Tinkerbell, your vampires to Twilight, your zombies to The Walking Dead, Shaun of the Dead, World War Z. Your wizards and witches and any whisper of a fantasy school for fantasy children will be compared to Harry Potter. Your high fantasy adventure will be compared to Lord of the Rings.
You can’t avoid it, but you can avoid doing it to yourself. When people ask about your book, let them say “oh, you mean like Star Wars” to which you then can say, kind of, except XYZ happens in my book. These IPs will never fade from the public consciousness, not while you exist to read this post, at least, but Harry Potter isn’t the only urban fantasy out there. Lord of the Rings isn’t the only high fantasy. Star Wars isn’t the only space opera.
Yours will be on the shelves right next to them, soon enough, and who knows? You might dethrone them.
5. Your world-building is an iceberg, and your book is the tip
I don’t pay for any of those programs that help you organize your book and mythos. I write exclusively on Apple Notes, MS Word, and Google Suite (and all are free to me). I have folders on Apple Notes with more words inside them than the books they’re written for.
If you try to cram an entire college textbook’s worth of content into your novel, you will have left zero room for actual story. The same goes for all the research you did, all the hours slaving away for just a few details and strings of dialogue.
There’s a balance, no matter how dense your story is. If you really want to include all those extra details, slap some appendices at the end. Commission some maps.
6. The gatekeeping for fantasy and sci-fi is still very real
Pen names and pseudonyms exist for a reason. A female author writing fantasy that isn’t just a backdrop for romance? You have a harder battle ahead of you than your male counterparts, at least in the US. And even then, your female protagonist will be scrutinized and torn apart.
She’ll either be too girly or not girly enough, too sexy, or not sexy enough. She’ll be called a Mary Sue, a radical feminist mouthpiece, some woke propaganda. Every action she takes will be criticized as unrealistic and if she has fans who are girls, they will be mocked, too.
If you have queer characters, characters of color, they won’t be good enough, they won’t please everyone, and someone will still call you a bigot. A lot of someones will still call you a bigot.
Do your due diligence and hire your army of sensitivity readers and listen to them, but you cannot please everyone, so might as well write to please yourself. You’re the one who will have to read it a thousand times until it’s published.
7. Your “original” idea has been done before, and that’s okay
Stories have been told since before language evolved. The sum of the parts of your novel may be original, but even then, it’s colored by the media you’ve consumed. And that’s okay!
How many Cinderella stories are there? How many high fantasies? How many books about werewolves and witches and vampires? Gods and goddesses and celestial beings? Fairies and dragons and trolls? Aliens, robots, alien robots? Romeo and Juliette? Superheroes and mutants?
Zombies may be the avenue through which you tell your story, but it’s not *just* about zombies, is it? It’s about the characters who battle them, the endurance of the human spirit, or the end of an era, the death of a nation. So don’t get discouraged, everyone before you and everyone after will have written someone on the backs of what came before and it still feels new.

You hadn’t seen the sun in a while, neither had you gone hunting, nor seen your parents. You missed the freedom you had, swimming and racing the others mers your age through the coral reefs, that mundane, but fun activity you did once in a while when everyone gathered at the same spot.
“Please, König, I just want to lay in the sun!”
“Nein, the outside world is dangerous, Schatz, ” his tone seemed apologetic, eyes cast down, avoiding your tearful eyes that gleamed beautifully from the bioluminescent plants, “I cannot.”
That was what he always told you, his words repeated on themselves, overlapping in your mind without holding much intent of substance to it. Why would it when all he told you was no? His excuses were getting old, they rarely changed over the few months he kept you in his cave, the little haven you grew to love now became a prison, a pretty cage to keep you locked away from the world you were born into. They always had an aspect in common: danger. He would say that it was too dangerous for you, that there were horrors living around his cave and wandering too closely to the edge you found him, the precipice of light and darkness that he stalked you from. If it wasn’t that, he’d push strongly that you could be taken away from him, caught and eaten by another Eldritch Horror that didn’t have the same obsession and favorability for pretty things like you.
He slowly approached you, arms reaching out towards you to embrace you, his fingers finding the softness of your hips. Kneading the line between your skin and scales, thumb smoothing over your opalescent scales, the smooth surface of it that helped you swim as swiftly as you could. You were a quick, little mouse, able to outrun him if you put enough effort and intention in it to escape his limbs. You shuddered against him, looping your arms around him for comfort that he never kept from you, often reminding you that he loved you and that he would do anything for you —except give you back your freedom.
You sobbed, a heart-wrenching cry slipping out of your pout, your glossy lips pulled down while pearly tears floated upwards, the density of your tears weighing less than the heaviness in his cave, a closed-off ocean of horror he painted over with enthusiasm and comfort. He whispered sweet words to you, smaller tentacles slipping under his hood to cradle your face. They acted as individual fingers, holding your face as if they were hands holding your chin up, curling under your jaw and eyes with the smooth side of his limbs, keeping the suckers away from your pretty face. He touched you so gently, careful to never break your skin or dirty the angelic image he had of you in his sickened mind. He wrapped himself around you, his thicker limbs latching onto you with the intention of never letting go, curling and looping around one another. The messy bundles kept you stuck to him as you whined, crying out the frustration and sadness you felt throughout your situation.
“Hush, don’t cry, mein kleiner Schatzi,” he wiped away your tears, and collected them between the suckers of his arms, watching them gleam with an opalescent shine, much like those of black mollusc shells. They were a spectacle, a beautiful thing coming from his precious mate, “We can go out when it is safe, ja?”
You nodded your little head, closing your eyes and nuzzling against his broad chest, the softness of his scarred skin that easily moulded to fit your shape. It was strange how easily he changed to fit your liking, to answer to your whims despite your protest or your reluctance. You couldn’t hate him, you simply couldn’t after all the things he did for you and how well he cared for you. Perhaps you’d fallen for him, falling so deeply in this hole of unwilling darkness and strange affection —your naivety working against your betterment and with his mind, dark and wretched. Despite your wails and frustrations towards König, he was all you had, all you had known for the past months, so you sought comfort and safety from him, unknowingly falling into his plan.
You let him lead you away from the open entrance, down the wide gate of his - your - room to lay you down, unable to move from the confines of his many arms and the warmth he provided. König was warm, he’d always burned hot compared to the cold waters of the abyss, the swirling vacuum of freezing water that seemed to have no end and the surface that stayed cool despite bathing under the sun for half the day. You thrived on warmth, soaking it up to keep your metabolism going, to be able to function without crashing or slowing down, you needed it and you depended on König to keep you warm.
He pressed down on you, his broad figure looming over your smaller and fragile one, casting a dark shadow with his sole presence. He brushed your hair away, the tip of his tentacle tickling your ear as he murmured temptation, his wide palms leaving your hips to trail down the curve of your navel, teasing the dilated hole of your core, blinking and oozing out slick. He pressed a finger in, listening to you mewl and squirm in his tight hold, your tail twisting and turning before ultimately bucking into his palm when he slid a second one in. He watched your pretty lips part in a gasp, eyes rolling back in pleasure, your lashes fluttering so prettily for him. You felt him everywhere, he was inside of you and all around you, his many arms working as extensions of his presence, teasing you with his little suckers, pulling and biting at you.
“Let me ease your mind,” his mask rose over his nose, tentacles parting like curtains to kiss you. It was all teeth and aggression, his kiss turning into a sign of possession, marking you with his taste and scent. He didn’t have any lips, or lips similar to yours, they were flat, hidden by a moustache of tentacles, thinner and shorter than his other ones, “Help you relax.”
They easily slipped into your mouth as he pumped you, fingers curling into the softer part of your cunt. You mewled, rutting back, walls clamping down on his fingers, their thick and rough textures doing you in with the flick of your swollen nub once he coached it out of its protective sheath. He slipped the straps of your bra down your shoulder, letting the cup sag enough to show your pretty nipples, perky and glistening, tempting him to kiss and bite at them. In his rush, he snapped your bra from the middle by the girth of his tentacles, curling around your tits to knead and play with your little nubs, covering them with a sucker and he pulled, the ride closing around it and pulled. You clamped down on him, your slick sticking to his hand as you burst, eyes rolled back so far that all you could see was the white. König admired you, his eyes gleaming with glee at your climax, helping you ride it out with slow pumps of his fingers. He watched your pupils dilate, steadily coming down from your high with laboured breathing.
“You look so pretty like this,” he smiled under his hood, his eyes creasing in the low light. They roved over your face, over your hooded eyes and your parted mouth, down the slope of your neck and the swell of your breasts, and ending at your cunt, your labia closed around two digits, slick and throbbing. “You drive me crazy, Schatz.”
He was panting, his body riled up with how much his many limbs were swaying, latching onto you and hungrily climbing over you. He mumbled incoherent words, his pretty blues turning a bright red, a bloody crimson that made you feel apprehensive, fear and anxiety spiking in your mind despite the pleasurable buzz. You peered down when you felt something nudge your finger-filled cunt, looking at a particular-looking tentacle. It was harder and slick, the tip cylindrical-like with a long shaft and covered in veins, much like the ones on his arm, bulging and throbbing. You were oblivious to its use, confused about the different shape, but once it moved, the leaky head enthusiastically dipping into you, you panicked.
You couldn’t believe what you were seeing, the engorged head of his arm pushing into you, guided by a hand, pumping himself to spread the slick and pre that gathered around his cock. You keened, head thrown back when he bottomed out, the veiny girth of his cock throbbing inside of you. His cock rocked into you, pulling out until his tip lingered, and your labia stretched around his thick rod before he rammed in so suddenly. It rocked you as a whole, your smaller figure jerked back with every hard thrust, your cervix feeling the brutality of his strength and devotion. You screamed, writhing in his restrictive hold, cunt battered by a hard, leaky cock with a flared tip, bulbous and smooth.
“Scheiße, you’re tight,” he groaned out through gritted teeth, feeling your walls stretch as wide as you could to welcome him despite his size and girth, your pussy becoming wet and sloppy with the amount of slick you produced. You pulsed around him, still sensitive from your last orgasm, clit and nipples swollen and twitching under his tentacles. He could feel everything, jolts sent down his arms followed by a euphoric sensation that ran through his mind, leaving him pussydrunk, mumbling out praises, “Du fühlst dich so gut an. Scheiße – so süß, so nass.”
You felt like you would burst, ploughed open by König’s cock arm, warm wall milking and sucking him deeper, coaxing him to fill you up with him. Your lover’s pace grew frantic, snapping harshly and deeply as if to leave a lasting presence in your innermost part, to mould your pussy into the shape of his cock and his alone, rendering you impossible to be pleasured by the sheer size difference between him and others of his kind. With a few precisely, but sloppy thrusts, he had you gushing around him, back arching - as much as you could with his strong grip - pussy clamping down on him as he fucked you into the soft algae-covered surface. You blacked out, euphoria filling your hazy mind, slick dripping down the sides of your tail and your nerves were set alight with blinding fires, burning through you so strongly.
König swore lowly, his chest rumbling against yours, his cock throbbed and his arm stuttered, pace growing unsteady as the whole length of his arm pulsed with a load of cum. He gave one last thrust, roughly slamming into your gummy cervix, before a rush of cum shot out of his tip, flooding your womb with hot, white cum. It clung to the wall of your womb like glue, coating your cunt in the same adhesive and warm substance. He groaned, nuzzling his face in your bared neck, falling victim to his wandering mouth, biting and lapping at your shoulder and throat. His whole body shook, laboured breaths kissing your sensitive skin as something travelled through the length of his shaft, small bumps varying in size, from small pearls to big grapes, steadily moving towards the flared head of his cock.
You sobbed when the first egg struggled against the entrance of your womb, breaking through the firmness of your soft entrance. It pained you, the forced pop into your virginal womb that wasn’t made to take in, but push out. Your cries were shushed by König, his reassuring words mixed with his heavy breathing that did little to dampen the pain he put you through. The first egg dropped into your womb, sticking to the walls, and another quickly joined it, plopping down beside it, weighing heavily by every egg, adding to the heaviness inside of you.
“You’re doing so well,” he brushed away your tears, his thumb gently cradling your cheek, groaning and grunting at the rising eggs and his flared tip unravelling to latch onto your whole cervix, “Just a few more, ja? I am almost done.”
His “a few more” were more so dozens than anything, stuffing you until you bloated slightly. You were exhausted, limbs as heavy as your stomach did, eyes fluttering through your hazy sight, dancing on the edge of sleep and consciousness. Perhaps if you closed your eyes, falling asleep in this moment, you’d wake up from this as if it were a nasty dream, finding yourself in your little cave near the surface of the ocean. Perhaps this was all but a nightmare made up by your anxious and paranoid mind from all the stories you’ve heard from your parents and the elders. You were tired after all, sleeping wouldn’t be so bad to regain all the energy you wasted, and you hoped - that if this was your reality - that König would take care of you for doing this to you, for enrapturing you with all his madness and devotion.
Tumblr media
You still missed the sun, the warm rays when you laid beneath it, just over a rock, but it was a far memory, further than you were willing to confess. You’d already grown used to his overbearing presence, his lingering eyes and wandering limbs, keeping one wrapped around your waists, your wrist or on your back, you’d gotten used to ignoring him and his dark eyes, bleeding into your world like the blood that stained the waters when he caught a live fish to feed you.
He fit you in his schedule, a routine he practised on a daily basis without a fault. You would wake up with a wail, coming all over his tentacle at least twice before he left you alone for the morning. He would go hunting after making sure that you were comfortable on your little perch, returning an hour or two afterwards with enough food for the whole day and a few shiny trinkets to try to appease your sorrowful heart. They were pretty, shimmering and glinting under the bioluminescent light, similar to the pretty pearls and seashells you would collect. Despite his intentions, it only reminded you of a life long gone, one that you unknowingly and willingly gave up when you took his hand that fateful day, condemning you to a life of darkness and solitude.
Then he’d spend the day with you, caring for your round stomach, rubbing soothing circles on your aching body, gently working the kinks and knots out of you. He provided for you, feeding you, soothing your pains, courting you with gifts and loved you with the entirety of his sickened heart. Your every need was taken care of, your hunger fulfilled, be it shark meat (a rarity for your kind of mermaid), squid or tuna, and your excitement satisfied with his cock, fingers, tentacles or mouth, eager to stuff you full despite your womb being grossly swollen with his progeny. He was fiercely protective, letting you out once in your month-long gestation, giving you the freedom to wander close to the ridge with a long arm wrapped around your waist. He never let you wander too far from him and never without a piece of him attached to you, clinging onto you as if you two were a singular entity —you probably were at this point, his thoughts and words echoing in your mind against your reluctance to accept him.
“Mein kleiner Schatzi,” he called, laying his head on your shoulder, his hood hanging over you. He forced you on his lap, snuggling up to you as he curled - loomed - over you while he shamelessly let his hands rove over your swollen stomach, feeling the grooves and bumps of his eggs, “You are very round. One more month and we will have little Satansbraten.” [Mischievous child]

South Asian and Hindu Influences in ATLA (Part 2)
disclaimer: i was raised culturally and religiously hindu, and though i've tried to do my research for this post and pair it with my own cultural knowledge, i'm not an expert on hinduism by any means. should i mess up, please let me know.
please also be aware that many of the concepts discussed in this post overlap heavily with religions such as buddhism and jainism, which might have different interpretations and representations. as i'm not from those religions or cultures, i don't want to speak on them, but if anyone with that knowledge wishes to add on, please feel free.
Part 1
In the previous post, I discussed some of the things ATLA got right in its depictions of desi and hindu cultures. unfortunately, they also got plenty of things wrong - often in ways that leaned towards racist caricatures - so let's break them down, starting with...
Guru Pathik
both the word "guru" and name "pathik" come from sanskrit. pathik means "traveler" or "he who knows the way" while guru is a term for a guide or mentor, similar to a teacher.
gurus were responsible for the very first education systems in ancient india, setting up institutions called gurukuls. students, referred to as disciples, would often spend years living with and learning from their gurus in these gurukuls, studying vedic and buddhist texts, philosophy, music and even martial arts.
however, their learning was not limited merely to academic study, as gurus were also responsible for guiding the spiritual evolution of their disciples. it was common for disciples to meditate, practice yoga, fast for days or weeks, and complete mundane household chores every day in order to instill them with self-discipline and help them achieve enlightenment and spiritual awareness. the relationship between a guru and his disciple was considered a sacred, holy bond, far exceeding that of a mere teacher and student.
aang's training with guru pathik mirrors some of these elements. similar to real gurus, pathik takes on the role of aang's spiritual mentor. he guides aang in unblocking his chakras and mastering the avatar state through meditation, fasting, and self-reflection - all of which are practices that would have likely been encouraged in disciples by their gurus.
pathik's design also takes inspiration from sadhus, holy men who renounced their worldly ties to follow a path of spiritual discipline. the guru's simple, nondescript clothing and hair are reflective of the ascetic lifestyle sadhus are expected to lead, giving up material belongings and desires in order to achieve spiritual enlightenment and, ultimately, liberation from the reincarnation cycle.
unfortunately, this is where the respectful references end because everything else about guru pathik was insensitive at best and stereotypical at worst.
it is extremely distasteful that the guru speaks with an overexaggerated indian accent, even though the iranian-indian actor who plays him has a naturally british accent. why not just hire an actual indian voice actor if the intention was to make pathik sound authentic? besides, i doubt authenticity was the sole intention, given that the purposeful distortion of indian accents was a common racist trope played for comedy in early 2000s children's media (see: phineas and ferb, diary of a wimpy kid, jessie... the list goes on).
furthermore, while pathik is presented a wise and respected figure within this episode, his next (and last) appearance in the show is entirely the opposite.
Tumblr media
in the episode nightmares and daydreams, pathik appears in aang's nightmare with six hands, holding what appears to be a veena (a classical indian music instrument). this references the iconography of the hindu deity Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. the embodiment of divine enlightenment, learning, insight and truth, Saraswati is a member of the Tridevi (the female version of the Trimurti), one of the most respected and revered goddesses in the Hindu pantheon... and her likeness is used for a cheap laugh on a character who's already treated as a caricature.
that's bad enough on its own, but when you consider that guru pathik is the only explicitly south asian coded character in the entire show, it's downright insulting. for a show that took so many of its foundational concepts from south asia and hinduism and yet provided almost no desi representation in return, this is just rubbing salt in the wound.
Chakras
"chakra", meaning "circle" or "wheel of life" in sanskrit, refers to sources of energy found in the human body. chakra points are aligned along the spine, with energy flowing from the lowest to the highest point. the energy pooled at the lowest chakra is called kundalini, and the aim is to release this energy to the highest chakra in order to achieve spiritual enlightenment and consciousness.
the number of chakras varies in different religions, with buddhism referencing five chakras while hinduism has seven. atla draws from the latter influence, so let's take a look at the seven chakras:
Muladhara (the Root Chakra). located at the base of the spine, this chakra deals with our basest instincts and is linked to the element of earth.
Swadhisthana (the Sacral Chakra). located just below the navel, this chakra deals with emotional intensity and pleasure and is linked to the element of water.
Manipura (the Solar Plexus Chakra). located in the stomach, this chakra deals with willpower and self-acceptance and is linked to the element of fire.
Anahata (the Heart Chakra). located in the heart, this chakra deals with love, compassion and forgiveness and is linked to the element of air. in the show, this chakra is blocked by aang's grief over the loss of the air nomads, which is a nice elemental allusion.
Vishudda (the Throat Chakra). located at the base of the throat, this chakra deals with communication and honesty and is linked to the fifth classical element of space. the show calls this the Sound Chakra, though i'm unsure where they got that from.
Ajna (the Third Eye Chakra). located in the centre of the forehead, this chakra deals with spirituality and insight and is also linked to the element of space. the show calls it the Light Chakra, which is fairly close.
Sahasrara (the Crown Chakra). located at the very top of the head, this chakra deals with pure cosmic consciousness and is also linked to the element of space. it makes perfect sense that this would be the final chakra aang has to unblock in order to connect with the avatar spirit, since the crown chakra is meant to be the point of communion with one's deepest, truest self.
the show follows these associations and descriptions almost verbatim, and does a good job linking the individual chakras to their associated struggles in aang's arc.
Cosmic Energy
the idea of chakras is associated with the concept of shakti, which refers to the life-giving energy that flows throughout the universe and within every individual.
the idea of shakti is a fundamentally unifying one, stating that all living beings are connected to one another and the universe through the cosmic energy that flows through us all. this philosophy is referenced both in the swamp episode and in guru pathik telling aang that the greatest illusion in the world is that of separation - after all, how can there be any real separation when every life is sustained by the same force?
this is also why aang needing to let go of katara did not, as he mistakenly assumed, mean he had to stop loving her. rather, the point of shedding earthly attachment is to allow one to become more attuned to shakti, both within oneself and others. ironically, in letting go of katara and allowing himself to commune with the divine energy of the universe instead, aang would have been more connected to her - not less.
The Avatar State
according to hinduism, there are five classical elements known as pancha bhuta that form the foundations of all creation: air, water, earth, fire, and space/atmosphere.
obviously, atla borrows this concept in making a world entirely based on the four classical elements. but looking at how the avatar spirit is portrayed as a giant version of aang suspended in mid-air, far above the earth, it's possible that this could reference the fifth liminal element of space as well.
admittedly this might be a bit of a reach, but personally i find it a neat piece of worldbuilding that could further explain the power of the avatar. compared to anyone else who might be able to master only one element, mastering all five means having control of every building block of the world. this would allow the avatar to be far more attuned to the spiritual energy within the universe - and themselves - as a result, setting in motion the endless cycle of death and rebirth that would connect their soul even across lifetimes.

the scorpion doesn’t care who it stings
I posted this on my Facebook four days ago, and it seems to have taken on a life of its own for a minute.
I thought I’d repost it, here:
I can not fathom the emptiness, the insecurity, the insatiable need for attention and validation, the staggering arrogance, the malevolence and total void of human experience that is Elon Musk.
He's the richest man on the planet. You can't go anywhere or do anything without interacting with something he's part of in some way. There are literal millions of people who uncritically worship him, in spite of overwhelming evidence that he's a douchebag. Some number of them will come after me, as they come after anyone who points at their naked emperor. They'll spend entire days going after me and people like me, slavishly serving a man who does not even know they exist. They are his army of fools, uncritically serving his every whim. And it still isn't enough.
He can have any material thing he wants, and he will *never* be happy or satisfied. He has no real friends. Every single person around him is either a viper, a parasite, or both.
So what does he do? He bullies and threatens and harasses and trolls and behaves like the weak, scared, insecure child he has always been. That's a tragedy for him, but it's dangerous for us. He doesn't care what he destroys or who he hurts as he chases this existential thing he cannot ever have.
You know the saying "hurt people hurt people"? He's a hurt person who is hurting our society, making people I care about less safe. The consequences of this one man's midlife crisis are global, and that terrifies me.
In a comment, about an hour later, I added:
You know what's really interesting is the tiny number of people who are attacking and harassing me are either typical right wing idiots who all spew the same garbage from behind their wraparound sunglasses, or these weird nerds who are DESPERATE to justify how toxic and cruel and destructive Elon Musk is. Like, nerds, listen to Old Man Wheaton, please.
Don't hitch your wagon to Elon Musk. There are countless people who are amazing and genuinely good, who do all the things we wish we could do. Stop defending this piece of shit who would push you into a volcano without even learning your name, if it would save him half a second on his way to his next shitpost on $8Chan (formerly known as Twitter). He doesn't stand up to anyone. He doesn't stand up FOR anyone. He is not your champion. He's angry and chaotic and destructive, and you have to understand that the scorpion doesn't care who it stings.
Finally, I want to add two things: 1) It’s interesting to me that a lot of the people who came to my post to be dicks used a lot of MAGA language. It reminds me of this thing my friend says about concerts: the audience looks like the band. Of course there’s substantial overlap between the angry, hateful, terrified, cowards who support Trump and the same who Stan Elon Musk, and it’s real interesting to see it in action.
2) I haven’t used Twitter for years. I quit before it was popular (lol) because it was better for my mental health. I logged in once when my book was published, and I deleted all my tweets when he announced he was buying Twitter. When he took over and immediately amplified a conspiracy theorist, I made my account private. In a perfect world, I would delete my account entirely. But I have to keep it for reasons I hope I don’t have to explain. After I posted this on Facebook, it made its way around Twitter (still is, four days later, which is ... a thing that is happening) and when people went to look at my account, they saw that it was closed. As much of a fucking manbaby Elon Musk clearly is, he didn’t do anything to my account. In fact, the only reason he even knows I exist (if he does) is through a vanity search of his name. I locked my account on my own, and so should you.
I am only on:
Tumblr
Facebook (itswilwheaton)
Instagram (itswilwheaton)
and my blog that I’ve been neglecting for too long at wilwheaton.net.
I’ve had a Reddit account since 2006, predating user-created subs! I’m u/wil there.
Okay that’s all. Thanks for listening. Please choose to be kind.

Ocular — Version 3
Preview // User Guide // More Info & Install
your favorite sidebar theme just got an upgrade, babeyyy
I went to update Ocular to make it NPF post-compliant and then my hand slipped and I redesigned the whole thing lmao. here's a brief update about Ocular 3; if you're looking for a full list of changes between versions 2 and 3, click the "Read More" below)
Ocular comes with the following features:
Colors: easily change the color scheme of your sidebar and posts using any colors you want
Post sizes: 400px, 500px, 540px, 600px, 700px
Sidebar: can be on the left, right, or above the posts. pick from a list of sidebar sizes, header image heights, and avatar shapes
Fonts: 20 different fonts, sizes 13px to 18px
Background: solid, gradient, full-size image or repeating image
Links: choose either regular navigation or drop-down navigation. unlimited custom links (visit the help desk FAQ for a tutorial) and ability to rename home, ask, submit, and archive links
Endless scroll, custom ask box text, Tumblr's full-width controls and search bar, optional header, avatar, and favicon images
if you already have Ocular installed, version 3 should be coming at you as soon as the update passes the theme garden. if you installed this theme with GitHub, you'll have to re-install manually.
now let's get to the fun stuff. what's new in version 3?
wow, do I have some updates for you!
1. goodbye color schemes, hello post background and text colors
you can now directly control the color of the posts rather than relying on color schemes to do it. want your posts to be a very specific shade of navy? all yours, buddy. go wild (make sure it's readable tho)
2. hello, color schemes! wait I thought we got rid of that guy
a lot of the color schemes I made became redundant now that the new post background/text color options exist. if you were married to the old color schemes, all of them can be recreated using those options. so the new color scheme options are as follows:
"My colors" — uses the colors you picked for post background/text
"Light preset" and "dark preset" — sets the posts to white with black text, or off-black with white text
"Translucent" — uses the colors you choose for post background/text, but makes the post backgrounds semi-transparent. there are NINE different translucent color schemes, ranging from 90% (only slightly see-through) to 10% (VERY see through)
3. navigation dropdown option
you can either use the sidebar links like they were before, or you can turn them into a cute little dropdown (helpful if you have lots of links or links with long titles!) you can enable this using the "use dropdown navigation" setting. you can also customize the label for the dropdown using the "dropdown menu label" setting. for instance, the dropdown on my blog currently says "oooh you wanna click me"
4. RIP google fonts I always hated your load times
decided to stop using Google Fonts and instead I'm providing the font files directly in the code. this will help speed up load times drastically when using custom fonts, plus I don't have to use Google. win-win! there's quite a bit of coverage overlap with the old fonts, but some of them that were too similar to each other got the ax. I also added all of the system fonts as options (hit classics like Arial, Georgia, and Comic Sans MS are now available TO YOU!)
5. more layout, sizing, and spacing options
the sidebar used to be either on the center-left, center-right, or above the posts; now it can go in the top-left or top-right! you can now control the border radius on the posts and sidebar. the header height, sidebar width, and post spacing all have additional options.
6. some options have been renamed for additional clarity
"background color 1" -> "background color"
"background color 2" -> "gradient background color"
"background" -> "background style"
"font override" -> "use body font everywhere"
"title" -> "sidebar title"
"description" -> "sidebar description"
"ask box text" -> "custom HTML above ask box"
7. removed some options
you win some, you lose some. I removed the uppercase sidebar links, theme credit, and inline media spacing options, mostly for redundancy reasons or because they produced unclear results.
8. as previously stated, now NPF-compliant
Ocular was ALMOST compliant with Tumblr's new post format, but had a few tweaks that needed to be ironed out. they're now ironed.
9: now user-friendly right out of the box
I updated the default color and content options, so new users installing this theme will have a much easier time using and customizing it immediately. no more ugly ass green background!
10. and finally, new JS
I had to rewrite some of the javascript for this theme, which turned into me rewriting ALL of the javascript. doing so meant that I could eliminate dependencies on third-party JS libraries and run the whole thing on plain JS. that should improve load times!!
bonus: custom CSS can do some nifty stuff now
want to change the size of your avatar? you can do that now! just do this to your Advanced > Add custom CSS section
Tumblr media Tumblr media
super helpful if you're using the Avatar shape: Uncropped setting and you need your image to be a specific size (like a pixelated GIF)
for more info, check out the Ocular user guide. thanks for reading my updates!! hope you all have a fantastic start to your 2024 ❤️

TILE TRANSITION TUTORIAL
Tumblr media
a couple of people have asked me for a tutorial on how I did the penultimate gif in this set, so here goes! this is my first tutorial, so please feel free to reach out with further questions if anything's unclear.
note: this tutorial assumes you know the basics of gifmaking, can create the base gifs, and are familiar with timeline mode.
STEP ONE: create the base gifs! I'd recommend staying between 25-40 frames for each gif, since the transitions we'll use later tend to increase gif sizes. these are the ones I'll be using for this tutorial:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
STEP TWO: create the guide layouts for both base gifs. for this panel, I chose a 4x4 grid — I would recommend keeping the number of "tiles" low because it can get tedious, but have a minimum of 9 (3x3 grid).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now your canvas should look like this:
Tumblr media
STEP THREE: create the tiles. this is where the going gets rough; there might be easier ways to do this that I couldn't think of 😭 if there are any please send me an ask!
essentially, in this step we'll cut up the base gifs into smaller squares so that each tile can be manipulated separately when we put both gifs together. to do this, first create a square using the rectangle tool and the guides. then duplicate the base gif, move it above the square, apply a clipping mask, and then convert the clipped gif and square (selected in the image below) into one smart object.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALTERNATELY: you could duplicate the original base gif and use layer masks to isolate tiles. create a layer mask for the duplicated gif layer and, with the layer mask selected, drag your mouse over a square (using the guide layout) and press delete. then press ctrl/cmd + i to invert the layer mask so that the gif only shows in the square of your choosing.
now repeat until you've got the entire gif in tiles, and do the same for the other gif!
since the transition effect is achieved by staggering the crossfades for each tile of the final gif, you can cheat by having multiple tiles "flip" at a time, ideally no more than four. this means you need to cut the base gif up into fewer pieces. to do this, simply draw multiple squares instead of one and then merge the shapes, before duplicating and clipping the gif onto them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you do this, it's essential to remember that you have to divide both gifs up in the exact same way. each piece of the b/w gif has to correspond to a piece of the purple gif!
this is what the layers look like for each gif once I'm done:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have them lettered so that it'll be easier to match them up in the next step.
STEP FOUR: this is the complicated bit that took me two days to figure out. I'll do my best to explain but don't hesitate to reach out if something isn't clear!
to begin, open up a new psd and import both base gifs into it. (remember to click "create video timeline" and ensure that your gifs are all in order before proceeding.)
now, the trickiest part about this transition is ensuring that all the little tiles sync up so that the larger gif is coherent. so first we'll create some markers (just empty layers) to ensure that everything lines up as it should. — marker 1: at about halfway through the first gif (b/w in this case) — marker 2: at about a quarter of the gif length — marker 3: close to the end of the gifs
Tumblr media
at this point we're ready to start bringing in the tiles. I'm going to delete the base gifs from this new psd just to keep things cleaner!
first thing to do is import my b/w tile. move the timeline slider over to marker 1 and split the first gif. (if it helps, rename the split gifs and add (start) and (end) to the two halves.) then, move the (end) half to the beginning of the timeline, and the (start) half to line up with marker 3.
the purple tile is easier to manage. simply import it into the psd and line it up with marker 2.
your timeline should now look like this:
Tumblr media
notice the overlap between the gifs at their beginnings and ends — this is where you'll be able to cascade the tiles flipping, so it helps to have a significant amount of overlap.
crop the three gifs for this tile as you see fit! since this is the first tile I want to flip from b/w to purple, I'll crop gif 1a (end) all the way to the current position of the timeline slider (red line with blue tip) and leave the beginning of gif 2a uncropped. for the flip from purple to b/w, I'll crop both gifs a bit.
once that's done, drag all three gifs onto the same level in timeline so they form a video group. your timeline should look something like this:
Tumblr media
now you just repeat the process for all the other tiles! as long as you made sure that all the tiles in one gif correspond with tiles in the other gif in step three, this should be a fairly painless process. make sure to crop the starts/ends of the gifs separately so that they don't all flip together.
this is what my layers look once I've done all the tiles:
Tumblr media
and the gif!
Tumblr media
STEP FIVE: transitions! click on the half-white square (top right of the left column in the timeline, beside the scissors) and select the crossfade transition, then drag it between two gifs in a video group. it should create a two-triangle symbol and shorten the overall length of the video group.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
apply the transition to all the tile flips, ensuring that the duration of all transitions is constant. this can sometimes be tricky because ps likes to change the duration of each transition, so right click on the transition symbol and manually change all your transition durations to be the same.
your layers should now look something like this:
Tumblr media
STEP SIX: draw the grid. bring back the guide layout from step two and using the line tool (I like 2px thickness), trace the grid. adjust opacity as you see fit (50-80% is usually a good idea), so that the canvas looks like this:
Tumblr media
STEP SEVEN: export and celebrate! you're done!
I hope this tutorial made sense and was easy to follow, and happy giffing! my inbox is always open for any questions <3

do u have any tips for trying to write a bunch of things simultaneously and wanting to make sure they don’t overlap in plots and stuff?
tysm
Writing Multiple WIPs Simultaneously
I'm VERY guilty of working on multiple WIPs at once, oftentimes working on my social media posts at the same time! ><
Here are some tips I picked along the way:
Set Your Goals
Each story must have a clear plot goal: aka, the socko ending.
Write down, as clearly as possible, what the central idea of the stories are. You don't want to get this messed up.
Pick the genre and total word count goal.
Write these down together in a document, and keep refering back to it as you switch between projects.
Simplify Your Plot and Juxtapose
I like to use what I call a "plot table", which looks something like this:
Tumblr media
The table should be 1-1.5 page maximum, and once I have two of these, I put them side to side to see of the overall plot progression, major fantasy names, etc. are overlapping.
If there are significant similarities, like having very similar characters names (which I know will confuse me down the line), I make sure I change them.
Be in Different Worlds/Genres/Story Aesthetics/Fandoms
I think this is one of the most useful tips.
If you have multiple projects, don't have 3 projects in the same genre, same story world and/or same POV, etc.
Try to vary the overall story aesthetic, genre, format, POV, fandom (for fanfics), etc. so that (1) you don't start mixing things and (2) you become more flexible as a writer in the end.
Prioritise One Story
Now, this is IMPORTANT.
Pick a main project you REALLY want to focus on/finish within a certain deadline.
Then, all other projects become "Break Time" where your brain can unload the distracting thoughts you can't include in the main project.
Jump into your other, side projects when you get tired of writing the main one.
Be On Different Stages For Each Project
If you're going to use your side projects as a place for "rest" from your main one, I recommend that you put each project on different stages of writing.
For example, your Main Project may be in Act II. When you get sick of writing the sloggy middle, you don't want to look at your other projects and realize you are stuck in Act II for all of them.
So, try to stagger them. Project 1: Brainstorming Stage + Project 2: Character Profiles + Project 3: Act I, etc.
Be Flexible
Remember that when you have multiple projects, you are bound to make mistakes and start getting confused from time to time.
Don't shy away from actually combining projects or giving up on one when time simply doesn't permit.
If you have prioritized a main project, let the others be a little more volatile! In fact, being flexible is one of the joys of writing <3

Hey Martha, I have a request. I'll keep it short.
Aemond, mirror and "I'm going to ruin you for anyone else."
I LOVE this prompt! I hope it tickles your fancy!
After The Study Session
Tumblr media
Modern Aemond Targaryen x fem reader
Can be read as a one shot but reads best as part 2 to After The Closing Shift
Word count: 4k+
About: Through the chaos of college and work, yours and Aemond's friendship continues to shift in a new direction. Jason can't seem to accept he's lost you. You and Aemond take matters into your hands to make sure he knows it.
Includes: Plot with lots of porn featuring Aemond and reader being cheeky, mirror kink, vaginal fingering, Aemond being possessive, phone kink, exhibitionism, mild degradation, and unprotected protected vaginal sex
Note: Hello lovely reader! You all loved the phone so much in After The Closing Shift I had to bring it back bigger and better! This is filthy. I hope you enjoy it. Mwah!
-
The days following what happened after that closing shift were a blur. On top of studying for finals, you picked up a few extra shifts at the restaurant to help pay for your car’s repairs. It wasn’t even that old! But it seemed as soon as one thing started acting up, a hydra effect followed and three more things went wrong. A weird rattle, some obscene squeaking, and a smell that definitely wasn’t normal. And, as if to make matters worse, it turned out the tires were in need of replacement. Great. Just great!
Aemond picked you up a couple more times from work, too. While things never escalated as quickly as the first time, innocence still flew out the window once inside the privacy of his black Mercedes.
Things were different between you two, now. Not in any bad way. Just, different. After the stormy car sex he indeed took you back to his place for the night. Still heated and bold, he joined you and fucked you again against the shower wall. Hot water washed away the mess of sex in a haze of humidity.
Aemond still lived at home, and the Targaryen estate was lavish enough that he had his own wing: bedroom, bathroom, and study. Helaena was off at college, and Aegon was off doing whatever he did during the middle of the night, so you two didn’t have to worry about untimely sibling interruption.
As promised, he gave you one of his t-shirts to sleep in. Soft, worn, and cozy; you joined him in his bed and sleep had come quickly.
Over the span of the next two weeks that was, unknowingly, the last moment of peace.
-
Finals were right around the corner. You and Aemond had different majors, but electives granted some overlap. You both had the same ancient civilization class and second year sign language. His major was for library science with the goal of becoming either a library director or archivist – perhaps both, if he could swing it right.
Aemond had a wicked sharp mind and he happily led study sessions for your shared classes in the university's library. You never knew him to be easily distracted. With how things were different between you now, however… On more than one occasion his hand slipped down the front of your bottoms, or bunched them down around your thighs, while he covered your mouth as he brought you to peak on his fingers. If both his hands were otherwise occupied, you buried your face in his neck to silence your pleasure. He always made sure to reserve tucked away tables.
It was incredibly distracting.
Yet, still, an even larger distraction clouded your mind. Jason Lannister.
Despite your repeated assurance that you were done with Jason, he persisted. Relentlessly. The fact he overheard you riding Aemond to and through orgasm seemed to matter little. Later, when things finally calmed down from the passionate storm, curiosity made you check your calls: Jason, incoming, over three minutes. He heard everything. You wondered how much of the hushed dirty talk he overheard. ("Listen, okay, I deserved that after all the shit I've put you through," he had said during one of your later arguments.)
Anytime you were with your best friend you made sure to have your phone either on silent or vibrate.
-
Tonight, vibrate mode.
You and Aemond finished a marathon study session in his wing and were praising all the God's that you were done. It was Friday night, you actually had the night off, and one of the obscure streaming apps just dropped a new anthology series in the same vein as Love Death + Robots. DoorDash dropped dinner off so you didn't even have to get dressed to go out. Nope. Tonight it was you, Aemond, a new show, your favorite food, and some much earned relaxation.
Sometime during the second episode, Aemond, as he liked to do, used your lap as a pillow and you idly ran your fingers through his hair. You tucked your phone beneath the opposite thigh he rested on. It'd been relatively quiet all afternoon and evening, but now it buzzed with two missed calls. "Do you need to get that, bunny?" He asked, peering up at you from the cushion of your thighs.
"Uhm… no, probably not. It can go to voicemail," you answered with more nerves than you intended.
It was enough to pique Aemond's attention. He looked at you suspiciously. "Who is it?"
"It doesn't matter. Whoa! Look! I think this guy is gonna be offered on that stone slab we saw earlier. He's being led to it by those forest freaks!" You prayed distraction would work. This episode was extremely interesting and Aemond hardly blinked until your phone started going off.
He didn't buy it. "Is it still Jason?"
Half a dozen emotions played across your face all at once before you flinched, shrugged, and answered, "yes?"
Aemond's expression, somehow, remained neutral. Though, you saw restrained emotion in the fine muscles of his face; irritation. "Still? Please tell me you're not thinking about getting back with him."
"No! No no no no. I really meant it when I said I'm done. He just keeps trying, ya know? Ugh. No matter how many times I tell him to stop he keeps coming back!" You groaned, frustrated. "And are you kidding, Aems? I haven't been able to think about him or anyone else since the storm in your car…,” you said with pinkened cheeks. “And all the times in the library?” You admitted further, cheeks much more red.
Any trace of anger shifted into pure mischief. “Mm... I was hoping you’d say that.”
“I mean it,” you replied. As engrossed in the episode as you had been, it no longer held your attention while Aemond looked at you like that. “I feel like we’ve hardly got a break since the storm. With work, prepping for finals, homework… and that fucking essay! Agh I swear it’s gonna haunt my dreams for the next week.”
“Hm…,” he hummed, eye sly. “You did very well on it. If I were your professor I’d give you a perfect score. Maybe a couple extra points if you wore these leggings into class when you turned it in.” As he spoke he rolled onto his belly with one arm folded beneath him for support. The fingers of the other played across one of your thighs in annunciation. He eyed his motion appreciatively before turning his gaze back up to you. On the tv someone was definitely screaming, and there was definitely chanting with one of the creepiest film scores you’d heard. Yet, neither of you paid the climax of the episode any mind.
“Aemond…,” his name left your mouth in a whisper. “You can’t look at me like that and expect me to be normal about it.”
“Maybe I don’t want you to be normal about it.”
Your belly flipped and flopped; anticipation and excitement made your breath shudder. This side of your best friend was straight up sinful. The more you two stole these moments away together, the more you wondered how you were able to live without them. And, even moreso, how you were able to stay with Jason when this was right here all along. Two years of on-again off-again happiness, turmoil, and every emotion between. It all seemed such a waste, now, knowing you could have spent those two years with Aemond; not only as best friends, but as his. “You’re such an asshole…,” you said a little too endearingly.
He grinned. Playful.
Reaching, you touched over the left side of his face. He had such a lovely face. Angled, sharp, sleek. As much as he’d roll his eye anytime you mentioned it, he truly looked like a marble statue of ancient antiquity. You traced over the lower portion of his scar that marred from cheek to forehead, mindful to not bother the patch he wore to cover his damaged eye. A terrible childhood accident left it completely dead; colorless, like that of a blind man. Instead of removing it for a prosthetic, he kept it and covered it with an eyepatch. You’d seen him many times without it but it was habitual for him to keep it on. Because, unfortunately, even after all these years, it still made him self-conscious.
He leaned into your touch. "Mm… tell me again how you can't think of anyone else." Turning his head he kissed the inside of your hand, eye an impish sliver of brilliant blue.
"No one else," you answered. "Only you."
"Such a good girl. My good, sweet girl."
At the same time, Aemond leaned up, and you leaned down, mouths colliding in a searing kiss. His lips were soft and warm, yet somehow yours were softer and warmer against his. He stood and urged you up, too, guiding you from the couch to his bed. There, he gently pushed you back onto it. The thread count was higher than anything you owned and it smelled a little like clean laundry and a little like him. With him atop you – your kiss growing heavier and needier by the second – and one of his hands roaming over you, your core ached.
How easily he made you need him.
"You should have told me Jason hasn't been leaving you alone," he said, squinting down at you with a small dark grin. One of his hands wrapped around both of your wrists as he held them above your head. "I could have made him stop by now." He leaned down to kiss you again, taking the time to nip at your bottom lip and kiss along your jaw; slowly, and with meaning.
"Can we stop talking about him?" Your question edged on a whimper when he bit at your neck and gently sucked the skin between his teeth. “I literally don’t give a shit about him and he just won’t stop calling and texting. I thought he might have caught on to the hint by now…” Beneath him, your thighs spilled open enough to accommodate his trim hips. Your knees pushed into his slender waist as you pulled him closer into you. Even his fucking sweats were softer than anything you owned – Targaryens and their insane money. His arousal strained against the material. Your own concealed excitement radiated between your thighs. It was impossible to tell who was hotter – him, or you – when he ground himself against your cunt through your leggings.
He groaned softly by your ear at the sensation, nipping your lobe. “Next time he calls, I’m answering it.”
Heat flooded to your core as goosebumps erupted upon your entire body. In your mind you saw your call log. Incoming, Jason, three minutes. Aemond told you he hung up but he never did. Now, he meant to do it again. Deliberately. With the full intention of telling Jason Lannister to fuck off one more time. Young, and hot blooded, and full to the brim with testosterone, he’d make his point clear.
Aemond’s bunny.
Releasing your wrists from his hold, he leaned up and you did too, watching as he moved across the room. He walked to where your phone lay on the floor and picked it up, putting it in his pocket. You both knew Jason would be calling again soon. Despite the breakup being his fault, he was having a hard time accepting it. Dumbass. A pretty, handsome, smooth-talking dumbass. If his heart was filled with the old-money gold of his family’s name, he’d be a proper himbo. But, alas, it definitely was not.
Wearing a new smirk, now, Aemond held his hand out to you. A wave of butterflies filled your belly as you stood from his bed and walked over to him. Immediately he discarded his shirt before pulling yours off, too. Stepping behind you, he unclasped your bra with a quick flick of his fingers and pushed you in the opposite direction; a line of clothing in your wake. The wall to the side of his closet was lined with mirrors, and that’s the direction he led you. An idea sprung to mind and a second wave of butterflies filled your belly. “Aems, what’re you…?”
“Shh…,” he interrupted, running one hand up your exposed belly, up between your bare breasts, until his fingers delicately wrapped around your neck. Your bodies pressed together and he made the softest, most delicious noise behind you as his rigid cock pressed against the small of your back. He held your phone in his free hand, and with a swipe of his thumb the camera clicked on. “A little secret, a little surprise… what do you think, bunny?” He asked low by your ear.
Through the mirror you watched him watch you; his single eye keen on the subtlety of your growing arousal. He loomed above you, the difference of your height on full display through the mirror’s face. Your neck fit so perfectly in his grasp. You nodded, breathless and dreamy, and as soon as you said “okay” you heard the quiet click of your camera's shutter.
“Good girl…,” he purred, taking photo after photo of differing angles and poses. “Let’s see what Lannister has to say about these, hm? God, we should have done this a long time ago.”
You ached with need. Never before had you taken photos like this with someone else. You had no idea it would be such a turn on. “I know, but we’ve been so busy,” you managed to croak out, the connection between your mouth and brain already beginning to shut off.
“I’m never too busy for you.” He slipped your phone back into his pocket. Using both hands, now, he traced down the slope of your sides until he met the band of your bottoms. He began tugging them down. The natural shimmy of your hips unintentionally (or perhaps wholly intentionally) ground your backside against his hardness. He groaned somewhere deep in his throat, chuckling, as he looked at you through the mirror. “Such a little tease.” He snapped a few more photos before working your underwear down. Once you were out of them he pocketed them greedily.
You reached around and grabbed his cock through his sweats, squeezing and working your hand over it. The choked sound he made had you giggling behind a bitten lip. “Aems, please. Fuck… you’re so hard. I need to have you inside me again.”
It took everything he had to push your hands away. “Not yet, baby girl. I wanna play with your pretty pussy for a little bit first. Make you all whiney and squirmy.”
As if you weren’t already whiney and squirmy enough.
He kicked your feet apart to spread your legs more. “Watch,” he said. Angling your bodies, he stood so you could both see his hand move between your thighs. He dragged his fingers up through your folds, testing your wetness, and rubbed the slick around your already swollen clit. “You’re so fucking wet already. I bet you could take three fingers right now without even working up to it.” Without wasting another moment he slipped one long slender digit into your body. You both gasped. He swirled it around and your pussy squelched with the movement.
A blush crept into your cheeks at the realization of just how wet you were, and he laughed darkly, lowly, behind you. He added a second. All of those beautiful nerve endings along your walls sang with his touch. When he brushed against that roughened spongy spot inside of you, one of your hands flew to the mirror to brace yourself upon your arm. “Holy shit…! Right there, fuck! Please– don’t stop.”
He didn’t. “I’m going to ruin you for anyone else,” he said as he stayed there, right there, fingering you until your pretty eyes were rolled up behind your eyelids. He feathered your clit with his thumb, his forearm flexing with the intensity of his motions. If he looked down he could see what he was doing. If he looked in the mirror he could see what he was doing. And same for you, too – all with his cock still pressed into your back. He had ruined you for anyone else. Ever since the storm in his car, no one else even drifted through your thoughts.
“Oh my god, yes…!” You tensed against him, muscles shaking with the exertion of your building orgasm. The combination of his soft, low, praising voice by your ear, and the unrelenting force of his wrist, had you cresting in the next instant. Bliss washed over you in a lovely wave of brilliance and warmth. You melted back into him, the tightened walls of your body easing and relaxing around his fingers.
“Can you give me one more?” He asked, grinning at you when you turned your face to meet his.
You nodded, still catching your breath. “Yeah, Aems, I can.”
He worked you up again. A little easier this time, however, so he wouldn’t completely overstimulate your senses before he could bury himself inside of you. You were so good and he only wanted to make you feel good. Amidst the finger fucking – you were grinding back against his hand, head tilted back and moaning so prettily – your phone began ringing its vibrating pattern. “I told you earlier I was gonna answer it and I meant it,” he crooned at you, showing you the screen with Jason’s name on it. He clicked the speakerphone on.
“Why the fuck would you send those to me? I’ve been trying to call you for–”
“ –and yet here you are, calling again. Seriously, Lannister, how many times does she have to tell you she’s done before you get it through your head?” Aemond asked, holding the phone in front of both of you so the speaker would catch any noise, large and small alike. “We’re a little busy. Tell him what you told me earlier, baby. He needs to hear it,” he said as he shoved a third finger into you.
You cried out, already nearly blissed out, gasping as he rammed you with the full force of three digits. “Oh my fucking god, yes, Aemond, yes yes yes,” you panted, totally and completely uncaring of how scandalous the scenario was. Despite the filth of it (or perhaps in spite of the filth), you loved it. “Fuck off, Jason. Stop calling me and leave me alone,” you said through a building orgasm. “Aemond’s ruined me for anyone else. Especially you. You cheating piece–,” before you could finish, climax ripped through your body for a second time and any words you were prepared to say were drowned by sounds of release.
Between your peak, and Aemond’s rumbling praises, Jason ended the call.
After catching your breath, you laughed. You couldn’t stop yourself. “Can’t believe that just happened!”
Aemond nuzzled into your neck and pulled you back to his bed where he fell atop it with you. “That should shut him up,” he said with way too much satisfaction; not at all regretting anything.
You looked up at him, bold and daring and mischievous. “I don’t think it will… I think he needs one more good solid reminder. To make sure he really knows he’s lost me.”
“What’re you thinking, bunny?”
You tugged his sweats down with zero hesitation. You tugged his briefs down with even less hesitation. His cock slapped up against his pelvis and you clenched around nothing at the sight of it, at the memory of riding him until you were silly with pleasure. You needed to feel him again. Needed to have his cum dripping from you again. He was the perfect size to stretch your body in the most delicious ways, and as much as you loved his fingers and mouth on you, you craved for more. “Let’s call him again. No speaker phone this time though. Let’s video call him,” your said with bright eyes; excited at the perversion of it.
“You naughty little thing,” Aemond growled down at you, his own eye mirroring yours. You were already facing the mirrored wall, and he flipped you onto your belly and propped your ass up. “Keep those knees under you and keep that ass up. Fuck, baby, you’re so sexy like this.”
You gladly followed his instructions and wiggled your hips in anticipation. “C’mon Aemond, ruin me,” you teased, looking at him from over your shoulder. He didn’t need to be told twice. He lined up with your dripping cunt and sunk into you with enough force to push the air out of your lungs.
Lean, sharp hips slammed against the soft flesh of your upturned asscheeks. “Taking me so well, baby girl. Fuck. Your pussy is so pretty stretched around me like this," he said, big hands spreading your ass apart so he could watch himself stroke in and out of you. Each time he pulled out, his cock glistened with your arousal. It sent his balls aching.
You, somehow, managed to call Jason and he actually answered. When he picked up you saw he was assumedly alone in his bedroom. "Hello? Oh Jesus Christ, you guys. Seriously?"
You had the back camera on and pointed at the mirror so Jason was able to see everything through the reflection. Your face was partially covered from the phone, and Aemond kept his attention downcast to where he thrust into you, the sound of skin on skin slapping through the phone's speakers. "Wanted you to see, Jason," you said through moans, pressing further against Aemond. "Didn't know if you believed the last call. I wanted you to see."
Behind you, Aemond picked up his pace and pressure, slamming into you with renewed vigor. "Just know how well I'm treating her now. And she's getting her pussy ate. Perhaps we'll call and show you that one of these times, too. I always knew you were worthless. Yet you still had the audacity to cheat on her. Fucking scumbag."
Still, Aemond fucked you harder. He wasn't holding back and neither were you. He pulled you up harshly, one arm wrapping around the front of your shoulders while the hand of the other gripped onto one of your hips, squeezing as he held you in place. The angle of the camera gave a new view; your bouncing tits almost as distracting as Aemond ramming in and out of you. There were entire categories on porn sites dedicated to stuff like this, and here Jason was getting it for free.
You didn't know or care about his feelings or reaction. All you cared about was how fucking good Aemond felt inside you.
"I get it. Piss off, both of you," Jason said before he hung up.
Your ex's words barely registered in your brain as Aemond chased his high, pushing you higher and higher all the while. A third orgasm rippled through you with an intensity that had you weightless. Perfectly numb, and light, and satisfied to your bones. He wasn't far behind; your flexing walls sent his cock twitching and unloading his spend against the deepest part of your body. As he pulled out, slowly and carefully and hesitantly, his cum dribbled from your cunt.
"My perfect girl," he rumbled; emptied and sated. "Was that too much?" He asked as he leaned back on his bed with you, scooping you against him in post-climax bliss.
You rested your head on the space below his shoulder, fingertips trailing languidly over the patch of hair at the center of his chest. You hummed. Musing. "No, I don't think so," you finally said. "I think it's exactly what he needed and deserved." Tilting your head, you kissed the underside of his jaw. "I'm all yours, Aems."
"All mine."
Comfortable silence followed. You listened to the steady drum of his heart; fingertips tracing from the hair on his chest to the fine hair below his navel, and all back again. Looking up at him, you said, “I think we should start telling people we’re together.”
“Let’s. I don’t think it’ll be much of a surprise to everyone, bunny,” he said, shifting to look down at you, too. “I can’t wait to see Lannister’s face next time we see him.”
You tried your best to not giggle. “Think he’ll tell others about it?”
“I don't give a shit. Long as he and everyone else know you're mine."

Time for another dive into the code! This time we're doing Warm, Moderate, and Cold Cove again, but for the transition between Step 2 to 3 instead of 1 to 2.
As a refresher to those who might not remember the original post talking about how it works from Step 1 to 2:
When making certain decisions in how you interact with Cove, the game will give you either warm points or cold points. These points are calculated at the end of the step to determine whether your Cove in the following Step will be warm, moderate, or cold. If you have more cold than warm points, the game will only use the cold ones, and same for having more warm than cold points. The points not used are essentially "thrown away."
A "warm" Cove is friendlier to others and cracks more jokes, a "moderate" Cove is closest to his Step 1 self, and a "cold" Cove is quieter and more blunt. They all interact with the MC similarly, except a warm Cove is more likely to tease the MC and not be as dependent while a cold Cove is more likely to side with/cling to them. His relationships with others will still be similar regardless of whether he's "warm," "moderate," or "cold," but how he expresses himself in those relationships may be different.
The warm-to-cold variation is a spectrum that goes from Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold. There is no Warm Cove who will do Cold Cove things and vice versa. With Warm-Moderate and Cold-Moderate, the idea is that you have a mostly Warm/Cold Cove respectively but with some mild variation.
There is a variable for "moderate" points in the game's code, but it goes unused in the game itself, meaning that a moderate Cove is more of a "default." If you were to go from the start of Step 1 and immediately to the end without doing any moments, that would be the best way of getting a "moderate" Cove. Engaging in moments is more likely to make your Cove warm/cold, so if you've played the game a lot and always go through a lot of moments without using the Cove Creator to change his personality, you could get a Moderate Cove for a potentially different experience.
In terms of the rules on how to get a warm/cold Cove, it varies. If the MC calls Cove out, teases him, includes/talks about other people, and encourages Cove to be more outgoing or do new things, he's more likely to be warm. Taking Cove's side, being protective of him, speaking up for him rather than letting him do it himself, and keeping things between him and the MC is more likely to make him cold. It's not a one-size-fits-all situation though, as a shy MC could make Cove warm because he's being encouraged to defend you whereas leaving Cove all by himself could make him cold.
Regardless of whether he's Warm, Moderate, or Cold, Cove will remain a sentimental introvert who gets flustered over romance.
Cove's appearance has nothing to do with whether he's warm/moderate/cold barring the rare cases where a choice might happen to overlap with it.
In terms of new information from Step 2 to 3 specifically, I'll say right away that whether your Step 2 Cove is already warm, moderate, or cold doesn't matter nor factor into how your Step 3 Cove turns out. All that matters is how you treat him in Step 2.
In addition, the point calculation works differently. In Step 1, having no more than 11 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Moderate Cove, having 12-19 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Cold-Moderate/Warm-Moderate Cove (depending on which you have more points in), and having 20 or more points will give a fully Cold/Warm Cove.
Also, if your points are tied, the game would "flip a coin" to decide whether it will opt for the cold or warm points.
However, Step 3 has more variation (well, not technically, but we'll talk about that later), first by making it even harder to get a Moderate Cove.
You only need 5 or more points in either warm/cold points to be locked out of a fully Moderate Cove (as a fully Moderate Cove would be 0-4 points). 5-9 will get you a slightly warm/cold Cove (we'll call this Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold for convenience), 10-14 or 15-19 (the game does two checks for this for some reason) will get you a Warm-Moderate or Cold-Moderate Cove, and having 20 or more will get you a fully Warm/Cold Cove as before.
In the case of a tie in points, the game will not do a "coin flip" anymore and will instead default to cold points.
One odd thing I will note (this wasn't relevant in the original post where I talked about Step 1->2) is that the Cove Creator actually sets some default cold/warm points as you pick the various buttons for Cove's personality.
The button on Warm gives 20 warm points and 10 cold points (again, these cold points are "thrown away" because the game only cares about what you have more of), the button between Warm and Moderate gives 12 warm points and 6 cold points, the button on Moderate gives 6 warm points and 6 cold points, the button between Moderate and Cold gives 6 warm points and 12 cold points, and the button on Cold gives 10 warm points and 20 cold points. These are the same points applied in any step where you can use the Cove Creator to change Cove's personality.
Now, did you catch something there?
Due to how Step 3 changed how few points are needed to lock you out of Moderate Cove (only 5 or more), it's actually impossible to get a fully Moderate Cove using the Cove Creator to change his personality. It will give you 6 warm points and 6 cold points, which will default to the 6 cold points due to the "coin flip" removal, thus giving you a Moderate-Cold Cove.
You can actually test this yourself if you have a save at the Step 3 Cove Creator. Set Cove's personality to "Moderate" and skim through the intro narration until it starts talking about Cove's family, right here:
Cove's relationships with his family improved over the years. Kyra visited several times after that summer, and things became easier between the two.
He was also closer with his dad than ever before. You knew they talked more, and that helped prevent a lot of friction before it could start.
If you had a fully Moderate Cove, you would get one of two follow-up narrations depending on if your Step 2 Cove was warm/warm-moderate/cold-moderate/cold or fully moderate.
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, drifted back to how it was in the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
if Moderate in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, was recognizable from the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
You won't get this narration if you chose Moderate from the Cove Creator. Instead, you would get one of these:
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate in Step 2:
However, Cove grew into someone no one would call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
if Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
However, Cove still wasn't what anyone could call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
I actually checked just to make absolutely certain that I was on the latest version of Our Life (1.7.1) and I am. It seems that in the process of trying to give more variation to Cove's personality (or just making Moderate more unlikely), the Cove Creator was left out of the equation. I'd be curious to know if this happens on older versions.
Further puzzling is that I was going to list multiple examples to show the difference between Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate/Cold (similar to what I did in the last post for Step 2 Cove), but the thing is that I could not find any.
I searched and scanned through the code in an attempt to call upon any instance where it would check for a Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm or Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate Cove specifically, and in every case the game considered them to be fully Warm and fully Cold respectively.
In other words, whereas in Step 2 you had Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold Cove, Step 3 seems to stick to a strict Warm/Moderate/Cold Cove with no in-betweens. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary then by all means, message/toss me an ask, but I couldn't find anything to suggest otherwise.
This also makes Moderate Cove the hardest to get since you would need to actually achieve it in-game by avoiding warm/cold points as much as possible. Even just going through the Step 2 intro and ending only, I don't even think you could avoid being locked out of Moderate Cove if you're playing on Fond/Crush.
Getting back to the topic of choices though, here are the options themselves that'll give you warm/cold points throughout Step 2:
Step 2 Intro
After Cove comes by to deliver the fruit bouquet (Fond/Crush only):
"Thank you!" [warm +1]
"Thanks." [warm +1]
"You are too cute sometimes." [cold +1]
When Jeremy is complaining about his parents:
You kept quiet. [cold +1]
"You shouldn't talk about your parents like that." [warm +1]
"Sorry. It must suck being forced to do something you don't want." [warm +1]
"We just said hello. You don't have to keep complaining at us." [cold +1]
"Calm down. You don't have to yell so much." [cold +1]
"Who peed in your cereal this morning?" [warm +1]
When Jeremy mocks Cove's eyebrows:
"What?" [no change]
"No! Cove's wavy eyebrows are so cool!" [warm +1]
"How can you say that when you've got a bowl cut?" [warm +1]
"Don't listen to him. They're really unique and special." [cold +1]
"Well, they are kind of silly." [warm +1]
"Apologize to Cove right now. You can't treat people like that." [cold +1]
(immediately following above choice):
You just rolled your eyes. [warm +1]
You crossed your arms over your chest. [cold +1]
You shook your head. [warm +1]
You patted Cove on the shoulder. [cold +1]
You lunged towards Jeremy! [no change]
You grinned at all of this. [warm +1]
When Derek points out the fruit bouquet once Jeremy is gone:
"I need to save it." [cold +1]
"Why not? Let's eat." [warm +1] {note that the skewers will change Step 3 Cove's left wristwear: pineapple or strawberry will take it off, grape will give him the black wristband, and melon will give him the chain bracelet and beaded wrap bracelet with the jewel}
When Elizabeth shows up to confront the MC over the fruit bouquet (if the MC chose to eat it with Derek and Cove):
"Sorry, Elizabeth..." [warm +1]
"Get over it." [warm +1]
"Well, the morning's been kind of a disaster!" [cold +1]
"We were hungry?" [cold +1]
"It wasn't us. A seagull came down and ate it all while we weren't looking!" [warm +1]
When Derek and Cove try to make an escape from Elizabeth:
You ran! [cold +1]
You stayed. [warm +1]
After Cove sneaks into the MC's room (Fond/Crush only):
"What are you doing?" [warm +1]
"What's up, Romeo?" [warm +1]
"This sure is a surprise, but you're always welcome here." [cold +1]
"Is everything okay? What happened?" [cold +1]
"You're lucky I didn't start screaming." [cold +1]
"Amazing. My dreams have come true." [warm +1]
(following above scene) When Cove vents about being upset over his situation with his parents:
"There's nothing wrong with feeling bad. That is hard to deal with." [cold +1]
"We can deal with this." [warm +1]
"I'm sorry, Cove. You know I'm here for you." [warm +1]
"Yeah, that's... a lot." [cold +1]
You didn't know what to say. [warm +1]
(following above scene) After Cove asks if he can stay longer in MC's room:
"You can stay tonight, but we shouldn't make a habit of this." [warm +1]
"I've got a flashlight and some cards. Are you in?" [warm +1]
"Of course. You can always stay here, Cove." [cold +1]
(following above scene) When the MC realizes that Cove has stayed the night in their room:
"Cove!" [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
○ You laughed quietly. [warm +1]
○ You laughed loudly. [cold +1]
○ "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
○ You helped him up. [cold +1]
○ "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You laughed out loud. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
○ You laughed even more. [cold +1]
○ "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
○ You helped him up. [cold +1]
○ "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You jumped out of bed. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
○ You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
○ You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
○ You poked him in the face.
○ You tugged at his hair.
○ You threw a pillow at him.
You froze. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
○ You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
○ You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
○ You poked him in the face. [no change]
○ You tugged at his hair. [no change]
○ You threw a pillow at him. [no change]
(following above scene) After Cove realizes that he'd fallen asleep and tries (fails) to calm down:
"It's going to be alright." [warm +1]
"We're going to be in so much trouble!" [cold +1]
"Just calm down." [warm +1]
"Settle down, before moms hear you." [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [warm +1]
(following above scene) As Cove is trying to sneak out back to his house:
You wished him luck. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You rallied him to keep going. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You suggested he sneak out the door instead. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You urged him to hurry up. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
When Kyra asks the MC if they have any restaurant recommendations:
You shrugged. [cold +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the spiky hair}
"Not really." [warm +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the middle-parted hair}
"Sure, I have a couple of favorites." [no change]
You nodded. [no change]
When Cove is sulking near the end of the outing with Kyra:
You made a silly face at him. [warm +1]
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You gave him a sympathetic look. [cold +1]
You flicked his straw wrapper at him. [warm +1]
You left him alone. [cold +1]
Wave
Fond/Crush routes only
When Cove asks the MC if they want to come down to the beach:
"Sure! I'll meet you there when we're done." [cold +1]
"Oh- yeah, I could do that..." [cold +1]
"Alright." [warm +1]
"I can't this time." [warm +1]
After MC meets with Cove on the beach:
"I wouldn't have missed it." [cold +1]
"Sorry you had to wait." [warm +1]
"And stay inside all day? I don't think so." [warm +1]
If the MC brought a board with them to the beach:
"Cove, I'm not that good at surfing." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"I borrowed this board, but I don't know how to surf..." (if the MC is inexperienced at surfing) [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"I'm ready to get in there." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Wanna have a competition?" (if the MC is experienced at surfing) [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Will you give me some tips?" [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
If the MC didn't bring a board with them to the beach:
{note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"What am I supposed to do while you surf?" [cold +1]
"I'll stay here and watch you surf." [warm +1]
"I'm going to find something to do while you surf." [cold +1]
After Cove jokes about clothespins if the MC went surfing with him (not for competition) and got into a splash fight with him:
"That was terrible on any scale." [warm +1]
"Please don't." [warm +1]
"You're adorable." [cold +1]
"I'm not sure that even counts as a pun." [cold +1]
"I love it." [warm +1]
If the MC chose to stay on shore and watch Cove surf:
You continued to watch quietly. [warm +1]
You started cheering him on after a really cool wave. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You shouted at him to remember to pace himself. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You did an impression of a sports announcer. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You made a silly face when he looked back at you. [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove checks on the MC:
"I've found ways to entertain myself." [cold +1]
"It's been fun." [warm +1]
"Eh, I'm just a little bored." [cold +1]
"This was totally radical, dude." [warm +1]
"I couldn't take my eyes off of you." (if Crush) [cold +1]
(following above choice) When Cove tells the MC that he likes them being there:
You teased him. [warm +1]
You smiled. [cold +1]
You looked away. [cold +1]
When Cove imitates Jeremy (if the MC chose to go with him to the park):
"Ha ha." [warm +1]
"Don't scare me like that! One Jeremy is enough." [cold +1]
"That's not really nice. Funny, but not nice." [warm +1]
"You don't have to tease him." [warm +1]
"Ugh, parents don't know anything." [cold +1]
(following above) After the conversation with Cove starts winding down:
"We better get home." [warm +1]
"I wish days were longer." [cold +1]
You chose not to say anything. [warm +1]
Growing
When the MC greets Cove when he arrives at their house (Fond/Crush only):
With a wave. [cold +1]
With a low five. [warm +1]
With a nudge to the shoulder. [cold +1]
With a noogie. [warm +1]
With a hug. [cold +1]
After Cove explains why he's come over (Fond/Crush only):
You thought that was really sweet. [warm +1]
"How'd you know I was doing nothing? Maybe I had plans." [warm +1]
You nodded. That made sense to you. [cold +1]
"I was thinking the exact same thing." [warm +1]
When Cove admits that he hasn't eaten: (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah, I get like that sometimes too." [no change]

"Thanks." [warm +1]
"You're the best." [cold +1]
Secretly, you had hoped to not have to give it back. [warm +1]
"Good. You weren't gonna get it back no matter what." [cold +1]
You were at a loss over this. [warm +1]
Soiree
(obviously, all Soiree points require that the MC ask Cove to the soiree)
After Cove nods in response to the MC asking him out on a real date (Crush only):
"Yay!" [warm +1]
"Really?" [cold +1]
You exhaled deeply. [warm +1]
"Thank you!" [cold +1]
"You're welcome." [no change]
(following above choice) after Pamela teases Cove about treating the MC well:
"You're making him uncomfortable!" [cold +1]
"Stop embarrassing me." [warm +1]
"You don't have to worry." [warm +1]
"You don't have to worry. Cove's definitely going to be good to me." [cold +1]
"Come on Cove, what kind of answer was that?" [warm +1]
When the moms ask the MC when Cove is going to arrive:
"He's getting here at seven." [warm +1]
"Soon. Probably." [warm +1]
"I'm not sure." [warm +1]
"I'm picking him up from his place." [cold +1]
"I'll go get him!" [cold +1]
When Kyra asks the MC if they want her to call Cove for them (if the MC went to pick up Cove for the soiree):
"That would be great, thanks." [warm +1]
"It's alright. I can wait." [cold +1]
"Can I go check?" [no change]
You went over to Cove's room to check yourself. (Fond/Crush only) [no change]
After Cove compliments the MC's look:
"You're looking good, too." [warm +1]
"I wish I could say the same to you." [warm +1]
"What is that you're wearing?" [cold +1]
"You look wonderful." [cold +1]
After the MC's initial response to Cove giving them a flower (Fond/Crush only):
"You didn't need to do this, Cove." [warm +1]
"I'm sorry I didn't get you anything." [cold +1]
"Thank you, Cove." [no change]
"I still like this one 'cause it's from you." (if the MC told Cove that they didn't like the flower) [warm +1]
You left the conversation there. [no change]
"You're so wonderful." [cold +1]
After Cove asks if it's fine to eat if the MC chose to go have food with him:
"Yeah. I only like these parties because of the free food." [warm +1]
"I knew you'd come just for the free food." [cold +1]
"Yep. I wonder what they'll have this time?" [no change]
"No one will mind. Really." [cold +1]
You simply nodded. [warm +1]
When the MC chooses to ask Cove for a dance:
{note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"So... would you like to dance, maybe?" [warm +1]
"Hey, Cove. Let's dance." [cold +1]
"Cove, can I have the pleasure of your company on the dance floor?" [warm +1]
"C'mon, it's time to dance." [no change]
"I'd like to dance. With you. If that's okay?" [cold +1]
When Cove comments on his obligation to dance if the MC asks him to dance and asked him earlier to be their practice date (Fond only):
"That's right." [warm +1]
"You don't have to." [cold +1]
"I guess?" [cold +1]
"Only if you want to." [warm +1]
"Thanks." [no change]
After Cove steps out of sync with the music if the MC asked him to dance (Fond/Crush only):
"We should have stuck to the Hokey Pokey." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"It's okay." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Dancing is harder than I thought." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"I'm signing you up for dancing lessons." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You quietly took a break. [warm +1]
Once Cove walks off to sit at a table (Indifferent only):
"Uh, Cove? Are you alright?" [cold +1]
"What's wrong?" [warm +1]
"Are you gonna get up soon?" [no change]
You didn't say anything. [no change]
(following above scene if MC chose to stay with Cove):
"What's wrong?" [warm +1]
"Feeling tired?" [cold +1]
"Are you sick?" [cold +1]
"What's up?" [no change]
"For what?" [warm +1]
After Cove walks away from the soiree (Fond/Crush only):
"Are you alright? And why are we here?" [cold +1]
"What's wrong?" [warm +1]
"Why'd you drag us out here?" [no change]
"Look at us, breaking the rules." [no change]
You didn't say anything. [no change]
(following above choice after the MC stays with Cove and he explains that he feels ready to go home):
"To your home planet?" [warm +1]
"Don't try running that far." [cold +1]
You kept quiet. [no change]
"I'm sorry you're not having fun anymore." [warm +1]
"Should I get my moms?" [cold +1]
Step 2 - Ending
If the MC wants to wear anklets for Cove (Fond/Crush only):
You put one ankle bracelet on. [cold +1]
You decided to wear several anklets." (if the MC owns multiple anklets) [warm +1]
You didn't wear one. [no change]
While the MC is waiting for Cove to arrive (Fond/Crush only):
It would only be polite to get the door for Cove. You went downstairs to wait. [cold +1]
You couldn't wait to see Cove, so you went downstairs to meet him when he arrived. [cold +1]
Cove knew your house well enough. You could lounge in your room to wait for him. [warm +1]
As Cove is talking about how he can't believe his mother is already leaving (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah." [no change]
You nodded. [no change]
"She'll be back." [warm +1]
"Time's going by so fast." [cold +1]
After Cove notices the MC if they chose to wear an anklet/multiple anklets (Fond only):
"What do you mean?" [cold +1]
"Sorry." [cold +1]
"It's not about you." [warm +1]
You kept your mouth shut. [warm +1]
After Cove notices the MC if they chose to wear an anklet/multiple anklets (Crush only):
"Does it look good?" [warm +1]
You stayed quiet yourself. [warm +1]
"Sorry..." [cold +1]
"What's the problem, Cove?" [cold +1]
(following above choice):
"Yes." [cold +1]
"No." [warm +1]
"Maybe." [warm +1]
"I don't know what you're talking about?" [cold +1]
You shrugged. [no change]
If the MC chooses to confess to Cove with words (Crush only):
"I know you're crushing on me and I feel the same about you." [warm +1]
"I like you Cove. I really, really like you!" [cold +1]
"I... I have a crush on you." [warm +1]
"You're pretty and wonderful and the best person I know! I like you so much." [cold +1]
It was just too difficult to get the words out, no matter how much you wanted to. [no change]
(following above choice if MC didn't back out of confessing):
"I don't know, either." [warm +1]
"You don't have to do anything." [cold +1]
"You could tell me how you feel." [cold +1]
"Calm down." [warm +1]
You laughed. [no change]
You shrugged. [no change]
If the MC confesses to Cove by kissing without caution (Crush only):
"Was that alright?" [warm +1]
"Um, are you okay?" [cold +1]
"Surprise!" [warm +1]
"I really like you Cove." [cold +1]
"I'm sorry." [cold +1]
You couldn't say anything. [warm +1]
If the MC confesses to Cove by kissing cautiously and Cove apologizes (Crush only):
"It's okay." [cold +1]
You laughed. [warm +1]
You began to cry. [warm +1]
You were annoyed. [cold +1]
"I'll survive. Probably." [warm +1]
If the MC confesses to Cove by asking for a kiss (Crush only):
"Because I want to right now." [warm +1]
"I don't know." [warm +1]
"I don't wanna wait any longer." [cold +1]
"Why not?" [cold +1]
You couldn't answer. [cold +1]
If the MC tried to kiss Cove in Road Trip, leading to Cove bringing it up himself in their room (Crush only):
"How about a do-over?" [cold +1]
"Do you want to try again?" [warm +1]
You silently returned his gaze. [cold +1]
You smiled reassuringly. [warm +1]
When Cove points out how them getting into a relationship would make things different (Crush only):
"Things don't have to be different." [cold +1]
"I pretty much imagined you'd react like this." (if the MC didn't try to kiss Cove in Road Trip) [warm +1]
"This is hard for me." [warm +1]
"Should we find a crystal ball for answers?" [cold +1]
After Cove starts freaking out after sharing a kiss with the MC (Crush only):
You were full of nerves. [warm +1]
His reaction was really cute. [warm +1]
You thought his fluster was funny. [cold +1]
It worried you that he was so frantic. [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove calms down (provided the MC didn't verbally confess):
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You hugged him. [warm +1]
"I like you, too." [cold +1]
You breathed a sigh of relief. [warm +1]
"I like you even more!" [cold +1]
After Cove points out that he and the MC's parents will probably take issue with their romantic relationship (Crush only):
"It's not fair." [warm +1]
"I wish we were older." [cold +1]
"It's okay." [cold +1]
"It doesn't matter, though. We like each other and that's what's important." [warm +1]
You didn't know what to say. [cold +1]
After Cove hesitates before crossing the street, anxious about his mom leaving (Fond/Crush only):
You smiled at him reassuringly. [cold +1]
You gave his back a pat. [cold +1]
You rested your hand on his arm. [warm +1]
"This isn't the last time you'll ever see her." [warm +1]
When Derek starts fantasizing about doing a show on the shopping street:
You thought it was a great idea and wanted to be a part of it. [warm +1]
You felt he could try this idea on his own. [cold +1]
You thought Derek needed to abandon that bad idea, stat. [warm +1]
You gave a look to the other two. [cold +1]
After Cove, Derek, and Elizabeth start speculating about the misprinted globe:
You wanted to side with Cove. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You backed up Derek. [no change]
You agreed with your sister. [no change]
"No, it's Australia." [warm +1]
You stayed out of it. [cold +1]
When the MC, Derek, and Cove spot Jeremy:
You stood there, shocked. [warm +1]
You glared at Jeremy. [cold +1]
You waved at Jeremy. [cold +1]
You decided to smile at Jeremy. [warm +1]
You looked away. [warm +1]
If the MC mentioned the realization that they probably won't see Jeremy again once summer ends:
"Good riddance." [cold +1]
"I think I might wanna see him again, sometime." [cold +1]
"Maybe he'll become nicer in the future." [warm +1]
"I'm happy it's over." [warm +1]
You stayed quiet. [warm +1]
If the MC chose to chase after Jeremy (if Birthday happened):
"Good riddance." [cold +1]
You tried to apologize for how you acted last time." (if the MC retaliated against Jeremy in Birthday) [warm +1]
"I just thought it'd be nice to say bye." [warm +1]
"Don't come back." [warm +1]
"I wish we could've really gotten to know each other." [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [cold +1]
If the MC admitted to the families that they confessed to/kissed Cove (Crush only):
You were also feeling extremely, extremely embarrassed. [warm +1]
You felt bad for putting him in this situation. [cold +1]
You felt good for telling your friends and family something so important. [warm +1]
You didn't know how to feel anymore. [warm +1]
You were annoyed at the others for making Cove more nervous. [cold +1]
After the families tease Cove for not having manners like Derek:
"Manners-smanners." [cold +1]
"Who cares? I don't think it's that big of a deal." [warm +1]
You teased Cove for his bad habit. [warm +1]
You complimented Derek on his politeness. [cold +1]
You joked that Derek was basically an adult. [warm +1]
You kept quiet and took a bite of food. [warm +1]
If the MC chose to go outside after Cove to the poppy hill:
"You really should go to sleep." [warm +1]
"I know how you feel." [cold +1]
"I feel good." [warm +1]
"I hope you feel better." [cold +1]
You shrugged back. [warm +1]
You nodded. [cold +1]
(following above if Cove does an action that he claims is doing what the MC does):
"You do that all the time too." [warm +1]
"So do you, Cove!" [cold +1]
You were stunned he noticed enough to take note of it. [cold +1]
"I don't do it that much." [warm +1]
Not being able to argue with his assessment, you accepted it. [warm +1]
You felt bashful about his joke. [cold +1]
After Cove climbs up to the MC's window in his wetsuit to ask if they want to go to the beach with him (Fond/Crush only):
"Always." [cold +1]
"Here we go again..." [warm +1]
"It's way too early, Cove." [warm +1]
"You're crazy." [cold +1]
"Cove. You're so cute." [warm +1]
You gave a decisive nod. [cold +1]
Hope that helps, or at least is interesting in some form~
This one was a real doozy, not just because of having more chances than in Step 1 to give Cove warm/cold points but I really thought I was going crazy with the whole Moderate situation.

Serial Cheater ~ Mako x Male Reader
This takes place somewhere along season 2 - Mako having just broken up with Korra and chatting to Asami again
You are a core member of team Avatar!
Short fic! Sorry lol
Tumblr media
Even though Mako is the kind of guy fan girls swoon over, most people would say that he's pretty down to earth
Your friends wouldn't describe Mako as flirty or as a serial romantic
But for the entire time you've known the muscular fire bender, some things have stuck out to you - most notably that he is, in fact, a flirt and a serial cheater (on accident)
Mako never actually means any harm to the girls he dates, but you have noticed a trend in his dating patterns of dating drop-dead gorgeous girls with a little overlap between them
It may just be the law of attraction - maybe Mako is just a magnet to romance and he can't help it
But it's most definitely a fact that if an opportunity is presented to the police officer, he takes it
And that is exactly what got the both of you into this situation
Mako and you were hanging out, Korra away somewhere on avatar business and everyone else at their respective jobs
The two of you were just chilling in Mako's apartment, having ordered take-out and drinking some new companies mass-produced rice-wine
As conversations drifted from one to the other, Mako started to vent about his highly active love-life
Being a good friend, you listened to the tall police officer - nodding along to assure him that you're listening to his ramble about his feelings for Korra and also for Asami
You of course throw in a joking comment or two at Mako's adulterous nature, but all in all you listen to his problems and offer your comfort
And your comforting and caring nature, mixed with the alcohol in Mako's system, was what resulted in your current situation
That being you on Mako's lap, making out with you handsome friend
Yes, you broke the kiss initially
Yes, you said you two shouldn't do this because of your close friendship with both of Mako's love interests
Yes, Mako begged for your warm, soft lips and for your comfort
And yes, you gave in...
Even though Mako was just yapping on about kissing Asami less than 24 hours ago, his chiseled face and warm brown eyes drew you in like an inescapable black hole
As the two of you made out, clothing started to make its way off of your body - the air in Mako's apartment becoming hotter and stuffier
But as your nude chest rubbed against the handsome man's pecs, a knock of the door forced you two apart
"Mako? Hey I wanna... talk about earlier!" you could hear your dear friend's voice shout
Asami was behind that door, and you most certainly didn't want her to walk in and see you and her not-so-boyfriend-boyfriend getting it on
You and Mako struggle to get off of one another and desperately reach for your clothes to cover up
You head to the bathroom to hide and dress back up as Mako let's Asami in to talk
You over-hear the two as you wait in your friends' tiny bathroom
Their conversation had ups and downs, but it definitely ended in an up
You peaked out of the crack between the door frame and the door, watching as Asami and Mako kissed goodbye
As the front door shut, you open the bathroom door and lean on the frame
"Sooo... looks like you really just can't help yourself" you say with a smirk to Mako
The tall man chuckles as he walks over to you
"Heh... yeah, I guess so"
"I don't think you deny being a playboy much longer, haha..." you joke
Mako holds you head up with his soft hand to make you look him in the eye - Mako's height being emphasised
"Shut up... and what if I am?" Mako half-lids his eyes as he focuses on your features
And while you know that it's a dick move on your part, breaking Asami's and even Korra's trust, you couldn't help but push your lips against Mako's
Your hands rest on Mako's strong chest, his tongue slipping past your lips as his masculine hands slip onto your waist
"That's what I'd do if your were... Hmhm~" you laugh after breaking from Mako's warm lips
The two of you laugh as the strong man picks you up, your legs wrapping around his waist and your arms around his neck
As Mako makes his way to his bed, all thoughts of guilt float out and away from your brain

thinking about being roomates with yuta again. you're both strangers to each other when you move in. the both of you talk about boundaries and habits and whatever else that might prevent an argument in the future. he's a light sleeper, you have a habit of leaving the house late; he likes showering in the morning, yours are at night and don't usually take more than 10 minutes; he's a bit messy, and so are you. you keep the list in the back of your mind and hope the two of you get along. he seems nice.
it doesn't take long for the both of you to grow accustomed to each other's schedules. there unsurprisingly isn't much overlap between when the both of you are home because of your differing courses. you catch glimpses of each other throughout the day. after lunch. after your 2:30. right before you finally tuck into bed late on wednesdays and fridays.
despite this there is a time in the week where you completely align. sundays are completely free. the apartment for once actually feels like it's being shared rather than simply cohabited.
silently, a part of you wishes it were always like this. part of you hates to mention that all the time spent away from the house isn't much time that's actually spent at all. stuck at the library, or any other odd in-between, you secretly count down the seconds to catch his figure retreating into his room just as you plant yourself on the couch.
you find out he's actually a little more odd than you initially thought, catching yourself wondering if he's thinking the same about you.
weirdly, as time pushes on and sundays continue to pass you by with him intwined into them, you can't help but notice the growing tension between the two of you.
new unspoken rules begin to rise. the spoken agreements are silently broken. glimpses turn into glances and then those fester into looks and gazes. eventually they're returned. you aren't sure who started it first, looking down and finding just as much dirt beneath your own nails.
things were fine once, simply civil at its worst. yet now they seem to have been flipped over and disturbed. the growing connection between you two should have you raising your brows, but you've never felt so pleasantly looked forward to.
