Fellow readers whom may be interested:
Are you indecisive about studying in the B.A?
Well is completely normal! It's a big decision, and it may be a lot to consider, but don't worry!.
Here are some points to help you clarify your thought:
Passion: Are you passionate about the subjects offered?
Career Goals: Do you have a clear career path in mind, or are you exploring options?
Skills: Does the BA connect with your skills and strengths?.
Are you confused about the linguistics?
Linguistics can feel overwhelming at first, but it's a fascinating and versatile field. If you're confused about whether to pursue it or what it involves, here are a few of the things you are going to learn:
How words and sentences are formed(Syntax and Morphology)
How sounds are produced, heard, and organized(Phonetics/Phonology)
How language reflects culture, identity, and society.
And last but not least, how languages change over time.
Are you afraid of the topics, task & homework's?
Linguistics tasks can vary, but they often involve problem-solving and analysis such as:
Analyzing sentences structures or sound patterns.
Researching hoe a language is used in society.
Solving linguistic puzzles (e.g, figuring out grammar rules of an unfamiliar language).
Homework may seem time-consuming, but it helps reinforce your understanding.
Well, I hope this helps you to reconsider your thoughts about studying in the B.A and we hope to have you here!
Greetings my fellow readers, as always is a pleasure to write you.

I had a delightful Sunday last week: coffee and a wander around The Wallace Collection, walking though Marylebone with an obligatory stop at Daunt books, and then basking in the sun at Regent’s Park with a cupcake 🧁

ᯓ an introduction
hello!! i'm torin, i’m 19, and i’m starting my first year of university this fall; i’ll be studying japanese and linguistics, but i also love to read and write, so much of my content will probably be related to those topics or just my life in general!
Tumblr media
ᯓ about me
i enjoy all kinds of literature–but mostly fantasy, magical realism, and classics atm!–and i’m very passionate about languages! i also like to make art and poetry, write, worldbuild, play video games, listen to music, and travel (when i can lol). lately, i’ve been working on worldbuilding for a fantasy novel, so i may post about my progress on that, too. oh! and i’m an infp, sag sun, scorpio rising, and cap moon!
my hope for this blog is to create a safe space for self-expression, productivity, and calm! as a queer and neurodivergent person, all three of those things can be hard to prioritize at times OTL
i’m always open to any asks, chats, or declarations of undying love you may have and i’ll try my best to reply promptly (sometimes i forget social media exists, bear with me teehee 🙏) i’d love to find some mutuals and friends here on tumblr and am excited to join the community!!
Tumblr media
-PS- please no meanies on my blog, bigotry and hate will not be tolerated here :p

Okay this line is completely different but to be fair it would never translate that well into English
『希望是這樣,我真沒想到你居然感怎麽冒險…要不以後你也跟我姓「胡」吧, 「胡來」 的胡!』
She actually says, "I hope so, I didn’t expect you’d actually take the risk…. How about after this you also take the surname “Hu*”, huh, like as in “hulai’s hu*” (lit. acting irresponsibly / mess things up)
*胡/(hú): by itself, as a word, it can be used to mean outrageous, reckless, wildly, etc. it also happens to be Hu Tao’s surname!
**a very common practice in Chinese when giving names is to give an epithet right after due to different characters having the same sound and you don’t want to mess up names. In my name for example, for one of the parts I would literally say, 「史是歷史的史」“shǐ” like in “lìshǐ” >> or “shi like in history” because by itself, you could potentially mistake it for the same sounding word “shǐ” as in start 「始 」 (among others).

Re-Introduction Post
I decided to re-make an intro post since I've changed my blog name and also the scope of my blog.
So hi, I'm Royal, formerly known as soul-write, you can now find my writing on @rwi-writes.
I am a linguist/translator/writer/artist/gamer/pagan with way too many interests and hobbies. I love reading and creating art (something which I really wish to get back into in 2025). As a pagan, I worship many gods, Norse and Hellenic, most notably Apollo and Hades.
My favourite video games include Oblivion, Stardew Valley, Hades and Minecraft. I'm also part of many fandoms, with my latest obsessions being Arcane and Castlevania. I also used to be an OG Voltron Legendary Defenders fan if that qualifies me for any discount lol.
Tumblr media
I'm looking forward to meeting new people to repopulate my dashboard with ^^. I also have some posts planned (mostly pagan stuff) so look forward to that I guess.

The poem evokes human greatness and human vulnerability. People are “godlike” in their courage and skill, but even the greatest mortals fall and clutch the dust between their bloody fingers. The beautiful word minunthadios, “short-lived,” is used of both Achilles and Hector, and applies to all of us. We die too soon, and there is no adequate recompense for the terrible, inevitable loss of life. Yet through poetry, the words, actions, and feelings of some long-ago brief lives may be remembered even three thousand years later.
--Emily Wilson's introduction to the Iliad
#so. we've come to the Iliad section in my Early World Literature class. and in that context we're utilizing the public domain translation by#A. S. Kline which made me think: you know what would be extremely fucking cool? since I'm going to have access to the Kline text until#the course closes in December. why don't I at least start the Wilson version and see how the two translations differ? so I'm now reading#The Iliad#as translated by Wilson and performed by the utterly masterful Audra McDonald. or well. I _would be except I'm so delighted. stunned. by#the incisive thought-provokingness of her introduction I keep needing to pause and write down various quotes: just this whole idea of#the poem revolving around how all all our deaths shall come too soon and there is no adequate compensation for that awful fact just FUCK#linguistics#mythology#folklore#fairy tales#lit geekery#book babbling#(oh I am already so fucking deep in this fannish hell and I haven't even really started her translation: like the Kline one is fine. but#it's very focused on *trying* to be Homeric you know? so there are all these very archaic references ala to Apollo#as Smintheus. which I then have to stop and look up oh. that means he's the mouse god and being the mouse god is important because#it ties back to him being an oracular god. which is then why the Greeks want to turn to another oracular god when he gets all pissy at them#and on one level. learning that mice were associated with the power of prophecy? extremely cool shit. on the other. well I have to#read a large chunk of this text in a fucking week Kline my good bud was it really necessary to provide an odd mouse reference I then#needed to find the context for *myself* I can already tell Wilson's tendency to provide context. both in the intro and just in general#wanting to make it readable terms will make this so! much easier of an introduction. (Kline. by contrast. would be really fucking cool if#you were a third-time reader and wanted all the marvelous nuance. just *rubs forehead* not a great intro when you're only focusing on#this text for a fucking week)

Hello, I am Daniel Aster. I am 21 years old from the US, and am a convert to Hinduism. I adhere specifically to the Vigyana Vedanta/Integral Advaita school, based on the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, though I am also influenced by Sri Aurobindo and a variety of other teachers. Politically, I am a libertarian socialism influenced by Murray Bookchin most of all. My hobbies are writing fiction and non-fiction, conlanging, and reading.
I will post things about my biggest interests, which include: religion, evolution, taxonomy, linguistics, literature, film, and various other things I am too sleepy to think of right now.

Hi there!
This is my very first post on this blog. I'm Azul, a 28-year old ESL teacher from Mexico City.
My uni years where some of the toughest I've ever gone through; back then I was so depressed that I was never able to actually enjoy all my curiosity and hunger for knowledge. It wasn't until last year that I allowed myself to heal and get back into learning, reading and studying (:
I'm currently working on my senior thesis and reading a whole lot about linguistics. When possible, I like to take photographs of night skies and identify stars and constellations
I love languages, and I want to become a polyglot one day. I'm a native Spanish speaker, I'm fluent in English, and I'm currently studying Italian, German and Chinese (:
I created this blog because while I mostly enjoy studying by myself (at night, ofc), I would also like to feel accompanied. I would like to have a community with which I can share stuff that happens to me day after day, be it random, cool or frustrating.

Welcome to my Studyblr!
My name is Kathryn (she/her), and I created this blog to help me organize my many, many hobbies, and see my own progress!
A little bit about me:
I am 19 years old, and I live in the USA.
I am studying Secondary English Education (7-12), and also getting a Luther's Teaching Diploma, allowing me to teach in Christian schools.
I am an avid learner!
Some hobbies of mine:
Writing! I've been working on my novel, Ghostly, for roughly 6 years now. I'm on my 7th draft, and have written over half a million words just in relation to this novel!
Language Learning! English is my first language, but I studied basic Spanish in high school. I am also now self-studying French! Bienvenue sur mon blog!
Fitness! I'm a fairly sedentary girl, yet I'll be taking on the None to Run 12 week program with one of my close friends! I'm so excited to learn to run, as it was something I really enjoyed in elementary and middle school. I also have an E-Bike that I love riding when the weather is nice!
Drawing! I love to create drawings, especially based on my novel characters. Who knows! Maybe I'll post some.
Studying! As a university student, I love to coop up in the library and just absorb into all of my class materials!
Theatre! See why I needed the blog? I have a lot of hobbies! I've been in roughly 20 shows since middle school, and this next season, I have four shows! I'm so excited to take you from audition to show!
I hope you stick around and we get to be good friends. Enjoy my many adventures, and I hope you create some for yourself! Follow for inspiration, a buddy system, or just a friend on here!
Toodles!

Language, Linguistics, Literature, Lore
Tumblr media
I think I must have always been a writer. Ever since I can remember, I have been reading and writing. Poetry. Songs. Journal entries. Essays. Short stories. Novels. I think the world is fascinating, and that there is so much joy and novelty in documenting it from one's unique perspective. Because of this, stories, whether gifted or carved, have followed me everywhere, throughout my life.
As I grew older, I developed an interest in anthropology. People. Culture. Language. History. Geography. Philosophy. The whole lot of it had taken a hold of me. There is intrigue in the vastness of human differences; so much beauty to uncover, and so much darkness, too.
I'm not sure when it all came together for me; when my identity, my interests, and my curiosity interwove like three strands of an endless red string working to become some great undefinable fabric that kept me warm at night, but this is what I love.
All of existence blends into a watercolour painting for me; beautiful and articulate in ways I think that only I can describe. Thankfully, I've spent so much time trying to find the right words, for so many different reasons, that it comes much easier to me now (this task of whipping up worded magic) but it hasn't always been that way. I, too, had humble beginnings, and I am still refining my craft. I think that I will probably always be on a refinement journey, for that is the mark of a continuous learner, and that is the burden of a passionate creative.
I have been an observer of reality; a critical thinker; a perceptive spectator to the world around me. Whether reality or fiction, one cannot deny that humanity is greatly enhanced by language in many ways. Linguistics teaches us that language and society are interconnected, making language and culture interconnected, making language and stories interconnected, making language this treasure trove of boundless knowledge, inspiration and motivation.
Writing is my superpower. I think of all the things I have ever tried doing in my life, and I have tried a great many things in my life, writing has always been the one thing I've come back to. I am no longer running from the idea that it is divinely connected to my purpose in this world.
So here it is! A big blog of language, linguistics, literature, and lore! I will be sharing lore from my novels, analyses of my poems, linguistic goodies about the languages I am developing for my fictional worlds, fun language things for language fanatics, my little ol' writer thoughts and opinions, beautiful pieces of literature I have encountered and continue to encounter along the way, and I might even share writing tips, whip up some intriguing essays, and answer questions.
My name is Ciara Marie Attong. I am an author, poet, linguist, conlanger, essayist, and blogger. I am currently in my second year of university where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with Education. My dream is to continue publishing works of fiction and poetry which reach and resonate with people. I am developing conlangs out of a deep interest in linguistics, language and culture. My hope is that these constructed languages will contribute greatly to the lore of my stories, and heighten the impact of the words and worlds that I present to my readers.
Thank you for joining me on this exciting journey!
With all my love. C. x

was refreshing myself on some old myth for a bit and i read the french and english wiki page for the Charybdis' mythos, and i'm noticing something that i don't know if it's just the wiki being inaccurate or an actual difference (from the linguistic page it seems to be an actual difference) but
In English there's this expression about choosing between two equally bad horrible situations by saying "choosing between Scylla and Charybdis"
But in French the expression is "to fall from Charybdis to Scylla" and instead of a choice it's about managing to get out of a horrible situation only to get thrown into an even worse situation (the equivalent of the English's expression ""falling out of the frying pan into the fire")
if i believe the linguistic page there was a bit of borrowing around and technically both expressions are used in both language, but you're more likely to find the first one in English and the second one in French (very likely because Victor Hugo popularized "to fall from Charybdis to Scylla" with Les Misérables) (does not mean it started in French the origin of the expression is still Greek anyway, just talking about why the saying is more popular in French with weirdos like me)
idk i think it's cool on a sort of metatextual perspective that English People saw this myth and when "oof imagine picking between those two" while French people just chugged a bottle of wine and went "And it's a BINGO and LIFE SUCKS and it NEVER GETS EASIER you get BOTH OF THEM BABEYYY"
#in my personal honor defense before anyone ask i know this myth and expression ever since i was a kid#there was an Odyssey cartoon when i was a kid i was constantly watching and it was like. my first introduction to the mythos and stuff#i did read bits and pieces of the book and read lots of wiki pages in the year#and i used to use this expression until i forgot how to say Charybdis. My dyslexia stopping me from being a pedantic intellectual.#(was always funny as a kid to just say that in front of adults who were just staring like hey what the fuck)#why am i refreshing myself now? Is it because of the whole buzz about the Odyssey lately? No. Absolutely not.#i'm looping a song i really like and that is very melancholic (yes in my Solas playlist) & it has the word Maelstrom which i didnt know#which got me into a wiki page about those and made me go 'ooooh like Char-- wait what's the name again'#and so i was doing a wiki dive on Charybdis before looking further into things#because i am terrified of sea monsters/horrors in a very morbidly curious way#i love scrolling through google image of sea monsters while just trembling in fear the whole time (real. not a joke.)#so i was doing that and i was reading the french wiki first and saw back this expression#but the french wiki being a bit short i switched to english and was :O to see the expression wasn't the same#so then i started a deep dive on the linguistic wiki page#to answer your question: no i was never diagnosticed officially with ADHD but enough qualified people have told me 'huh do you have ADHD or#anyway fun stuff. love language. love how we look at mythos and create expressions from it#even when it's dissimilar from one language to the next because the origin of the expression is different in popularity#or simply because the horrors of the myths can be interpreted differently by the people making those expressions#ISNT IT FUN. LANGUAGE AND MYTHS ARE COOL.#ichatalks#wait i didnt even finish checking the lyrics of the song i was checking give me a sec
