In honour of pride month coming to an end, I thought I'd give you all a little story about some gay love in Arthurian mythos.

According to a 13th century Venetian manuscript Les Prophéties de Merlin, Sebille, Morgana, The Lady of the Lake, and the Queen of Norgales were the four apprentices of Merlin and the most powerful sorceresses in Britain. Whenever they met up they would compete in incredible magic tournaments against each other (In one particular showcase of magic, the Lady of the Lake made all of Morgana's clothes disappear in front of a crowd, humiliating Morgana and winning the tournament).

In this book, the relationship between Morgana and Sebille is described as Morgana 'loving Sebille more than all other women' however given the context it is very clearly implied that they're in some sort of romantic relationship rather than it being a sisterhood thing. For one thing, in this text Sebille is described as being beautiful whilst Morgana is described as being ugly, a fact which the narrator point out does not affect their relationship.

Sadly, because this is a medieval romance their relationship is disrupted when they meet a handsome knight and their stories ends after the knight, which the pair had been fighting over, chooses a third girl as his bride, not Sebille or Morgana. Fighting over the knight had caused the pair to fall out with each other, however after calling each other a whore and Sebille dragging Morgana through the mud (literally) they patch things up.

It's not much I know, but these sorts of things never are, and given how clearly the sorceresses are framed as antagonists the idea that they may be in love with each other is part of the 'oh how evil' thought that contemporary readers would have.

As a last little side note however, there's an Italian folktale about a Demonic Fay Sorceress called Sebille, who lives in a magnificent underground palace along with her entourage of horny nymphs and who lure strangers into their underground kingdom of 'forbidden pleasures'. If the victims stay there for more than a year then they're cursed to stay there forever until judgement day. And like, spending an eternity partying in a palace full of beautiful horny nymphs doesn't sound too bad, actually.

Amatonormativity has destroyed so many people's understanding and acceptance of themselves, and it's heartbreaking.

Yes, it is normal to be in your 20s, 30s, or older and not have lost your virginity, had a first kiss, or a partner. It is normal to say that you aren't ready for those things, too! It is normal if your life doesn't follow the "college graduate -> engagement -> buying a home -> 2.5 kids and a dog" trajectory that so many people have idealized.

So many people associate maturity with losing your virginity, or having a first kiss, or a serious relationship, and I think that's a dangerous association. Maturity isn't gained through those things, and you don't have to have those experiences to be considered "mature" or "grown." It is not a bad thing to go at your pace. Nobody else can live your life but you. If you end up having those experiences, that's great! But it should be done because you want to experience them, not because you feel "broken" and "immature" without them.

I’ve said this before, but I always found stories that frame heaven as “evil” and hell as “good” (or less bad) to be genuinely boring. I like more nuanced approaches to each realm.

I understand that for a lot of people, Christianity is a religion they like to criticize and mock, but I feel like if you don’t even understand the fundamentals of the religion, why even attempt to critique it?

it's like a mix of anger, feral, emotional breakdown, and complete sadness that just fucks me up soooo fucking bad.

it's like she's a pet who got abandoned by their owner but they see them again after years of sadness and depression of them being gone and leaving them like that and all that anger and sadness just manifest's into one bundle of emotion's towards them they cannot control.

merlin told arthur his favorite color was the color of the sky during sunset when it shifted into a deep violet. arthur gets a tunic made in that exact shade. its the best thing merlin owns. arthur was hoping that would mean he’d wear it almost everyday but merlin almost never wears it. the only time he does wear it is when royals come to visit (which isn’t all that often). arthur “subtly” asks about it and merlin is like “it’s the best thing i own. i’m not gonna dirty it mucking out the stables or serving rowdy knights wine while they splatter food on it” and arthur is like “why not wear it when nobles come to visit? look at least a little presentable for them” (cough nice save). merlin doesn’t see the point in it bc nobles don’t care about him at best, view him as less than human at worst.

arthur really just wants to see his boyfriend servant in the tunic he had made for him (bonus points for sending a message that merlin is his. not that merlin seems to notice. man is too much of an idiot). merlin wants to preserve his favorite tunic and gift from his boyfriend king.
