Leaving the bathroom, you joined the rest of your team in the lounge area. As you entered, you couldn’t help but notice Sam without a shirt, your eyes lingering on his defined abs longer than you had intended. He caught your gaze, shooting you a playful smirk.
As you broke eye contact, you made your way to Bucky. “By the way, how is the new Cap?” Sharon directed her question over to Sam.
“Don’t get me started,” Bucky mumbled, answering for Sam. You tensed as Sharon walked over, carrying on their conversation and sitting next to him on the small couch. Their conversation turned into white noise in your mind while you watched them sitting close together.
You didn’t realize you had been holding your breath, as Sharon stood up to make herself a drink, you released it with a sigh. Seizing the opportunity, you quickly sat in her previous spot, itching closer to Bucky. He draped his arm over the back of the couch. You listened intently to Sam and Sharon’s discussion about the Power Broker, flinching slightly when you felt Bucky’s fingers start to play with the ends of your hair.
You both sat watching and listening to the deal they made, offering leads for a pardon.
~
Upbeat music played as the crowd cheered and danced around the artwork. Your anxiety heightened as you watched them wave drinks around in their hands, so close to the priceless work. Madripoor was a crazy place, especially since you found yourself laughing and having fun with Zemo.
After a few moments of dancing with Zemo, you felt a pair of hands place themselves on your hips. Lost in the moment, you didn’t bother to check who it was and began swaying along with them. It wasn’t until your eyes met Bucky’s from across the room that you realized it might be someone else. The intensity in his gaze sends a thrill through you. Instead of stopping, you let a mischievous smirk play on your lips and gave him a wink.
After a few minutes of dancing with strangers and by the tightness of his jaw, frustrating Bucky, you decided to start regrouping with him, Sam, and Zemo in case Sharon got any information.
Bucky didn’t say one word to you as you looked at the art, or when Sharon came back with a lead, and he never said a word on the way to depot.
~
After taking the comm from Sharon, you entered the shipping container with Bucky, Sam, and Zemo. You stayed at the door with Bucky as Sam and Zemo inspected the inside. His jaw tensed every time you glanced up at him.
“Bucky…” You tried to get his attention, but as his gaze snapped down to you his nostrils flared. A telltale sign for you to either watch what you say or be quiet. You chose the latter as you began following the men further into the container up to a science lab.
You stood quietly as Sam spoke to the Doctor, your eyes surveying the lab for any other clues, that was when Sharon’s voice blared in your ear. “Guys, we have company.” Sharing a glance with Sam, your eyes having a private conversation. Once he nodded, you bolted back out of the container to find her.
Her grunting was the first sound you heard, rushing towards it you helped her to knock out the rest of the bounty hunters. “Feels like old times, huh?” you quipped, a reference to the times you fought together while working at S.H.I.E.L.D. She didn’t get a chance to reply before more bounty hunters showed up.
After getting the last of who was currently around, you and Sharon ran back into the container towards the men. “Guys, we’re seriously outta time here,” Sharon shouted towards them as you reached the lab.
You yelped at the sound of a gunshot, Bucky rushed toward you, blocking your view of the scene that had unfolded seconds before. “Keep your eyes on me,” he mumbled, his voice only loud enough for you to hear. Doing as he said, you locked your gaze with him as your heartbeat raced.
Suddenly, you were pushed to the ground, Bucky’s body weight on top of yours as your ears rang, the temperature of the room heightened and sirens blared. Bucky pulled himself up, reaching out his hand to help you up from the ground too.
Scanning the room, you notice the liquids in the testing tubes start to bubble and whistle around you. “It’s about to blow!” you exclaimed, hurrying after Bucky as he guided the others. He swiftly assisted them back to their feet before he turned to usher you out the door.
Before you knew it, you were all once again in a shoot-out. Sam and Bucky fought over who was leading, shouting at each other about who was in the right. “It’s in every action movie!” Sam declared as he gestured around him to Bucky.
“He’s never seen an action movie!” You shouted back at Sam, defending Bucky, who had unmistakably exclaimed, as you all left the container, to go on his signal. Just then, another explosion erupted, and Bucky instinctively shielded you with his body, his protective nature over you kicking in.
“You alright?” He mumbled as the smoke cleared, locking eyes with you as the world behind him blurred into insignificance. At that moment, he was all you saw. You offered him a reassuring nod, murmuring a quick ‘yeah’ to him before you both shot your glances over to where the gunshots began again.
~
Back on the plane, you sat in silence, reflecting on the events of Madripoor. Gazing out the window, the conversation between Sam and Bucky faded as your thoughts took over. You couldn’t help but wonder how Steve would have handled the situation, and how things might have been different if he just stayed. Doubts crept into your mind about whether Natasha’s sacrifice had been worth it.
Just then, you felt the presence that reminded you why it was worth it. Towering over you, he watched as you remained fixated on the passing clouds.
“I’m still pissed,” he said quietly. Shrugging your shoulders in response, you tucked your knees closer to your chest. “But, you still need to get some rest.” And, with that, pulled you up from your seat. Taking your place, he gently guided you to sit on his lap. You didn’t resist, nestling into his chest as he traced soothing patterns on your outer thigh with his left hand. His right hand entangled itself through your hair.
“Is this really for me to rest, or for you?” You asked him, aware from the many nights spent together that he found it easier to relax and fall asleep with you as close as possible.
“Both of us, Baby,” he muttered softly. His voice was honest as he gently tightened his embrace, his breathing warm against your ear.
Sighing, you felt the tension in your body slowly melt away. His familiar touch and steady heartbeat calm your thoughts, making it easier to let go of the day's chaos.

question — would any loki fans (of mcu loki specifically, any movies/era) be interested in taking an extensive survey for loki fans?
i have a lot of questions i’ve been wanting to ask the broader loki fandom, and i figure a survey would be better than making a million tumblr polls. i already have a pretty long list of questions, but i want to make sure it’s something people are actually interested in.
the survey would cover as many topics as i can think of. in my current rough draft, there are six sections:
fan demographics. age, gender, race, etc. all questions here would have a “prefer not to say” option for those who don’t wish to give out that information.
basics. about which mcu movies/episodes you’ve watched (that contain loki), and if you enjoyed them.
contentious topics. which is pretty much… everything. some examples of what i’d ask about include: the attack on new york, loki’s familial relationships, what you think of popular pre-canon loki headcanons/theories, opinions on loki variants, etc etc. i will likely split this section up.
shipping and lgbtq+ stuff. also contentious topics, but they get their own section.
fandom interactions. if/how you’ve participated in online or offline fandom, & how fandom has treated you.
non-mcu loki questions. asking about other loki media you’ve seen, if any.
i’m planning for the survey to be hosted by the google docs surveys feature, but i’ve never used that before, so i may or may not be able to figure it out. i won’t collect emails, so answers would be anonymous. i might decide to post the data from some of the questions if the survey gets enough responses, and i’ll add a way to opt out of that.
if anyone has any ideas for specific questions i should ask, please definitely suggest them! i would appreciate it a lot.

Apologies if you've already answered it. I've been reading your metas today and linked posts and ngl I really love them and I feel like we're in full agreement with everything.
With season 2 of Loki merely 6 weeks away (idk, are you going to watch it? I think I will, regardless of my current feelings about it) what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it? Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh. Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2? Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki. Sorry for lenghty ask 🙈 my season 2 anxiety is off the charts, I expect it will be more of the same with Sylvie leading the story and Loki following her and I'd love to hear your thoughts about s2
Awww, thank you!!! Season 1 was something I felt so deeply for! All my hopes and dreams were focused on it. And then it shattered me in a way I didn’t know was possible. Now, I see that it took me a full year to cope and decode what I was feeling. The metas I wrote during this time (including the survey) are more like an open diary of how I processed the show and stabilized my mental health. It means a lot to me that now those thoughts may help others, too. 💚
I’ll put the answers under a cut, because there are some triggers included.
what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it?
Frankly, I expect the season to focus mainly on Sylvie and her character development. If I put my criticisms aside and try to see what the creators wanted to do with the series, it looks to me like their only goal for Larry was to morph him from a villain to a hero in a way that would be undeniable for the general audience. This was achieved by him watching the video and finally finding someone he cares for. So his arc was completed in season 1. His role now is probably to serve as a guide for her, and maybe to discover that his true power is only achievable through or with her. I don’t count this as “his” arc especially, but more the core of the general admiration Sylvie is supposed to get from everyone in-universe. It’s a part of being a Mary sue. As is excelling at everything, even stuff that is opposite to your characteristics and you have no former knowledge on that would make it seem believable you’d excel. Like this, you know?
Tumblr media
I‘m quite certain of this because Eric Martin is a huge fan of Sylvie and the ship. If you want to confirm I suggest looking at his Twitter. His tweets imply he intends to stay true to Waldron‘s and Harron‘s original ideas. This was confirmed by some people working on the set of season 2. I made the effort to find the original post, and it turned out that two people contributed to the post I experienced as thoughtful and reliable on Reddit. I personally believe those leaks.
Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh.
I think it will be more of the same. Sorry, I wish I could tell you something more to your taste. I absolutely share this feeling, and so do others.
Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2?
This article claims that Tom was supposed to leave the MCU at the end of season 1. Allegedly, season 1 was supposed to have 12 episodes and only was cut short because of Corona. This would mean that the original end of season 1 would be now the end of season 2. Does this mean he will leave? I can’t say. Disney‘s stock is progressively decreasing. Social media opinions on the MCU seem to grow more and more negative and depreciating. Perhaps Iger and Feige feel like Tom is one of the last strong pillars and try to keep him. At this point, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to keep the MCU afloat with Tom’s personal fandom. I don’t think that will work since Google stats show that his popularity decreased after season 1 to a point where it is now below the level it was after endgame. But they might attempt it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki.
Even if he leaves I assume cameos are always a possibility, especially now that the studios are utilizing AI. But Loki? I‘m heartbroken, but I am very sure we have seen the last of him in TDW (and Ao3). May his reign bring him all the joy he deserves.
So last but not least:
idk, are you going to watch it?
I honestly don’t know. I certainly won’t pay for it. The last time I always watched the episodes was the day they came out so I could write my thoughts down here. But ngl, I’m tired of the fighting, the anon hate, and the feeling that opinions online are getting more important than the love for Loki. Right now, I’m trying to focus more on my fanfics than on the canon. Season 1 made me unable to continue my fics for almost a year. I don’t want to repeat that with season 2.
I still think that the show has done great harm to the fandom, to (some) people with poor mental health who needed Loki as a focus point, (some) gender-fluid or non-binary people who got exposed to sexism because of it, and possibly Tom‘s reputation (based on the google trends Infos). But for season 2 we know what to expect. We know it’s not Loki but Larry who will appear. And in this case, I think it might be best to leave the season to those it was made for, so they can enjoy it and keep as far away from it as possible.
If you want to watch it and still want to give Disney some negative feedback, I recommend watching every episode more than 7 days after it aired. Afaik Disney only counts views in the first week as real interest. Alternatively, 🏴‍☠️.

So I don’t normally talk about my OCs on here very much, but I got inspired by @starleska to actually talk a little bit about the OCs I have to ship with some of my F/Os!! Yes they are all still essentially self-inserts and meant to be lived through vicariously, but they’re still my girls and I love them :3 Plus I think it would be fun to give you guys a little bit of a glimpse into the stories I have for my F/Os!!
Liesel Halle & Eren Jaeger, Attack On Titan
Liesel is often considered to be “the flower of the Survey Corps” because while she’s not a member of the squad (her older sister, Isolde, holds a high rank and she’s shipped with Levi, but that’s another story :P), she’s always helping out and is great for morale -- not to mention she’s the only person who can get Eren to SIMMER DOWN sometimes XD It’s cute to track the growth of their relationship as they go from teenagers to adults, and how devoted they ultimately become to each other. Not to mention how Liesel almost has a parallel arc of descending into darkness right alongside her paramour :P She’s ready to murder people for her mans if it comes down to it, AND IT OFTEN DOES.
Gianna “Gigi” Knightleigh & Jonathan Sims, The Magnus Archives
I have SUCH a soft spot for Jon and Gigi’s relationship, because it so closely mirrors my own feelings towards Jon as a character :P Gigi was hand-picked by Elias to work at the Institute as an intern, and at first she didn’t like Jon at all XD She thought he was a stuffy, pompous windbag and was endlessly frustrated by his skepticism. There was ENDLESS sarcastic banter between the two of them, and then y’know, season two happened :P And that’s where the shift in their dynamic happens. Gigi realizes firsthand that Jon isn’t ignorant, he’s TERRIFIED. She becomes the only person he allows himself to really turn to in all of this, and that’s when they really become close :P And she becomes FIERCELY protective of him when everyone else starts to turn on him, even when it becomes clear that Jon isn’t human. I’m also pretty sure Elias chose her specifically BECAUSE she would end up being so supportive of Jon, and despite her vulnerabilities he’s actively protecting her from ending up as a target of any of the other Entities :P
Jenna Campbell & Wanda Maximoff, Marvel Cinematic Universe
Shocking that my MCU themed OC is the most blatantly self-insert-y of the bunch :P Irony being that this SHIELD agent fell for Wanda’s twin brother Pietro first, and the two of them came together in their shared grief after he was killed during their mission. This led to the two of them becoming close friends, and then Jenna developing some more-than-friends feelings for Wanda that she largely kept to herself because of Wanda’s burgeoning courtship with Vision :P But she’s always been willing to do just about anything for Wanda, to the point where getting her back was largely Jenna’s motivation post-Infinity War. But after Endgame, the world was broken, and they all had their own traumas to cope with, and Jenna didn’t realize that Wanda was isolating herself to an unhealthy degree until it was too late for her to directly intervene. She never stopped fighting to find Wanda again though, especially in the direct aftermath of Westview. As it stands, the future of their story is uncertain, but hopefully their paths will ultimately cross again......
Nyx Hopper & Eddie Munson & Chrissy Cunningham, Stranger Things
Nyx has become one of my more prominent OCs!! She’s the adoptive older sister of Eleven, and the two of them were brought up in the Hawkins lab together -- though because she was older, Nyx was put into a caretaker role towards the younger kids. She ended up escaping from the lab and being forced to leave El behind, though they found their way back to each other. When she first started attending Hawkins High, Nyx was withdrawn and quiet, and she was inspired to come out of her shell more and be unapologetically herself (as well as embracing the goth subculture) by watching Eddie do the same thing :P And so she’s harbored a crush on him ever since. She also ended up becoming close to Chrissy after they met by pure circumstance; Chrissy is the only member of the “popular” crowd to give Nyx a chance, and Nyx has the empathy that encourages Chrissy to open up to her :3 And yes, she does have similar telekinetic abilities to El, and an even stronger connection to the Upside Down..... :P
Jacaera Velaryon & Aemond Targaryen, House of the Dragon
gonna put a content warning here for canon-typical incest
Jacaera is the only living daughter of Rhaenyra Targaryen; with her father purported to be Laenor Velaryon, but her biological father is in fact Harwin Strong :P She’s the older sister of Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey, though she knows her brothers will always come first in the line of succession, and has to grapple with this as her mother once did before her. Like her brothers, she also grew up in close proximity to Alicent’s children; Rhaenyra’s half-siblings Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond. Despite the fact that he’s technically her uncle, the two are so close in age they grew up seeing each other as peers, especially with Helaena being betrothed to her own elder brother Aegon at an early age. Jacaera was the only one of Rhaenyra’s children who was never cruel to Aemond, and this on top of their common interests fostered a closeness between the two of them. As they meet each other again in adulthood, the two of them face the prospect of being the future of their respective branches of the Targaryen family line.....and coming into their own in war rather than in love :P (the ~drama~ with these two is real)
“Valkyrie” & Johnny Silverhand, Cyberpunk 2077
Ah, Valkyrie, my V!! I’ve talked about her and her dynamic with Johnny a bit before, but I will take every opportunity to talk about them more :P She comes from a Corpo family, and she was always kind of the family disappointment. (Admittedly, being a Samurai fangirl and openly crushing on a dead rockstar who was also most definitely a domestic terrorist didn’t do her any favors either :P) At first, she worked hard to try and prove herself, but after unceremoniously losing her cushy job, she’s gone full “fuck it” and uses her Corpo knowledge as a force for chaos XD Admittedly, having your old celeb crush in your head and hearing them (at least at first) reaffirm everything your abusive mom ever told you is kind of a head trip :P Though Valkyrie ends up personally trusting Johnny a lot more off the bat than the game establishes, their banter is amazing and he’ll obviously never admit how much he actually likes her, or how important she becomes to him down the line. Eventually their relationship becomes borderline codependent in the most delicious way, and though V has her girl gang (Judy, Panam, Claire, and Lizzy), there’s really nothing she and Johnny won’t do for each other <3
Nova & Vash the Stampede & Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Trigun Stampede 2023
Stampede is one of those shows that imo is just.....nigh on perfection so I tend to struggle to find holes in the narrative that I can put my OC into :P That being said, Nova is a darling :3 I may not be able to give her any special powers or any significant arc as of yet, however sometimes it’s just enough for her to be there for the boys in those little in between moments, to give them the love and affection they both so desperately need <3
Naomi “Nighthawk” Kanda & Touya “Dabi” Todoroki, My Hero Academia
Ah, Naomi, my baby girl <3 She has such a special place in my heart and so does this relationship :P Her Quirk is called Swerve, the ability to alter the trajectory of any projectile she throws or that is thrown toward her; including her own body. She once had aspirations of becoming a Pro Hero back in her UA days, when she was young and naive. But of course, she had the idealistic preconceptions of what being a hero is like completely shattered for her when she went on a mission that went very, very bad. She failed to save a child whom had been abducted, and in her blind fury and grief she murdered the man who was responsible. Now she’s considered a vigilante and delivers her own form of justice to the most heinous of criminals, and operates under the moniker “Nighthawk” :P (Her family also had ties to the Yakuza but THAT’S another story XD) She ended up getting on the radar of the League of Villains, and will even sometimes work with them on and off, but she has her own agenda by and large. She also has a chronic case of “I can fix him” disorder and by god it’s incurable XD
Melody Thyme & Wally Darling, Welcome Home ARG
Melody is a somewhat new addition to my roster of OCs, and since there’s still so little we know about the “canon” of Welcome Home, she’s kind of still in development, but I am attached to her regardless XD Her name is a pun off of the title of the little-known Disney animated musical anthology film, Melody Time, which was one of my childhood faves :P She’s a guest star puppet character in the world of the Welcome Home show, she runs a dress shop in town and has dreams of one day becoming a singer; and she often has song spots that she sometimes shares with Wally :P Her whole aesthetic is very Loretta Lynn and June Carter Cash. The darkness behind her character is in all likelihood tied to just how HARD it was to be a woman in the entertainment industry in the late 60s and early 70s. I also have this fun, cute, and somewhat sad headcanon that throughout her appearances on the show, she was continually working on what would ultimately turn out to be a wedding dress, and that the show was cancelled before she had a chance to wear it.

MCU Shipping Survey
Tell us your ships!
You favorite canon ships: Pepperony, Quill/Gamora, Scott/Hope, PeggySousa
Canon ship(s) you reject: Clint/Laura, Scarlet Vision, Nat/whoever, Strange/Christine Palmer, (permanent) Steggy, and (permanent) Peter/MJ (I’m fine with them dating for a while, but Pete needs to get with Shuri)
Pair that never shared screentime together, that you ship: WinterGhost (Bucky/Ghost), GalagaHart (Galaga Guy/Christine Everhart), ScarletFrost (Wanda Maximoff/Loki) Carole/Valkyrie
Cuteness ship ❤️ PrincessParker/WakandanSpider/whatever you’d call Peter Parker/Shuri. Also, Carole Danvers/Valkyrie.
Angst ship: WinterIron. Bucky and Tony have the most tragic connection, and so much else in common.
BDSM ship: FrostIron (with Loki as dom). To a lesser extent, ScarletFrost (with Loki starting as the dominant one, but Wanda later taking control)
Cargo Ships: Dum-E/Dr. Strange’s Cape
Crack ships: WoodRocket (mostly for the name)
Your OTPs: StrangeIron, Pepperony, PeggySousa, Clintasha, WinterWitch, WinterGhost
Any minor character ships? (A "minor" character being one who won't get a poster or McDonald's toy) GalagaHart--Galaga Guy and Christine Everhart..
Conflicting ships that you ship WinterGhost, WinterWitch, FrostWitch, FrostIron, WinterIron, StrangeIron, Pepperony...
Ship you just can't get into Nat with anyone but Clint; Darcy with Tony, Loki, Bucky, or any character who already has a list of more interesting potential mates; Stucky; IronWitch and IronPrincess (even if she’s 18, it’s still too weird)
A ship you used to like but have abandoned Nat/Bruce. I liked it at first, but after seeing the whole series, it was always supposed to be Nat/Clint.
Any "problematic" ships? Probably any ship involving Loki
A ship you didn't used to care about, but now will go down with Clintasha. I didn’t used to care, but now that “Endgame” has confirmed that Clint’s family will never be actual characters, and their promotion to a plot device in that finale was a step up from their previous status as gate-keys, existing solely to lock Clint away from Nat, to free Scarlet Johansson up for infinite ship-teasing with the more popular Avengers, I forgot where I was going with this. But Clint and Nat are the only couple for each other that make sense.
Ever jump ship? (As in, abandon one ship in favor of another?) Bruce/Nat to Clintasha; WinterIron to StrangeIron (but not entirely)
Ship you will fire on and sink at first sight Starker. At least MCU Starker, that is. I don’t care if Pete is 18 in your fic; if it’s MCU Pete and Tony, they are presented onscreen as a dad and a son, an adult and a child, regardless of legal age. And shipping those incarnations of those characters is gross, in my opinion.
OT3s? Not in particular...though I don’t mind a third party in a ship I like.
Ship that needs more attention WinterGhost, GalagaHart
Friend-ships (characters you want to platonically hang out more) Wanda and Ghost; Wanda and Mantis; Wanda and Nat; Nat and Gamora; Tony Stark and Hank Pym; Tony and Shuri; Tony and Rocket; Betty Ross and Jane Foster.

Marvel Fandom AO3 Poll (18+)
Tumblr media
Closes July 28th. Results will be posted sometime after.
I started making this all because I wondered what specific tags people might like in my fic series, so I decided to make a poll for the whole MCU! This thing is long and I tried my best to include as many things as I could.
Includes smut and kinks (many), various pairings (romantic & non-romantic), and questions in general.
It means so much to me if you take this poll! :) A reblog is very appreciated, even if you're only signal boosting!

idk, I think it was a pretty good day to be a sylki shipper yesterday lol
Tumblr media
First Loki and Sylvie made it into the finale for best MCU couple in Marvel Studios Canada’s instagram survey
Tumblr media
Then Marvel Australia and New Zealand came through and called Loki and Sylvie a power couple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then official Marvel page on FB asked their audience who their favorite mcu power couple was and Sylki literally obliterated every other ship. Even Wanda and Vision.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that one card alone from Marvel UK made my entire Valentine’s day yesterday

May recs
Quite a hodgepodge this time around, since not having my computer for the first half of the month resulted in me plowing through to-read piles on my phone. Enjoy!
Standard Operating Procedures by @galateagalvanized (Star Wars, Cody/Obi-Wan)
“Sir, I need you to tell me what’s wrong,” Cody says, battlefield calm, and he can’t help his relief when Obi-Wan pulls the tattered remains of his usual dignity back over his shoulders.
“Right,” Obi-Wan says. “Of course. Commander, as far as I can tell, everyone besides you on this ship has fallen truly, madly, deeply in love with me.”
Where Cody is the exception to acting weird because of course he’s already in love with Obi-Wan. I LOVE THIS TROPE. Plays out mostly as you would expect, i.e. delightfully.
Fauna One by @avonya (Murderbot Diaries, gen)
On an otherwise tedious survey, Murderbot meets a cat.
Wonderful pre-canon fic that does that thing canon does where it’s hilarious and fun and also makes you want to scream about how fucked up its enslaved life used to be. But yes, mostly it’s about Murderbot making friends with a feral cat.
things to never give the devil by @fahye (Our Flag Means Death, Ed/Stede)
"Dark Fate?" says Stede, making sure to pronounce the capitals.
"Very effective for star-crossed lovers. And at a bargain price, if I do say so myself. A potent mixture of unspeakably rare ingredients, brewed under a new moon, which will drag you through the depths of your own soul in search of difficult truths, and leave the undeserving to drift forever in a dreamscape of torment and emotional agony!"
"What?" says Stede. "No! That sounds awful!"
Set post-S1, the path to Stede and Ed reuniting is full of obstacles. Fairytale-flavored and as delightfully bonkers/romantic as the show, with amnesia, aka my favorite trope!
The Song Remains the Same by @sholiofic (Agent Carter, Peggy/Daniel/Jack)
After a lab accident, Peggy wakes up in 1948, with no memories of anything since early 1946.
Did I mention I love amnesia? This fic is SO GOOD in that respect, and does a beautiful job with Peggy’s tendency to be kinda judgey - usually well deserved! but less good when she finds out her future self somehow ended up in a triad with Jack Thompson of all people, and starts fucking up her own life and future happiness. (don’t worry, they figure it out eventually) And all that on top of a really good casefile!
All Bets Are Off by Carmilla (Singin’ in the Rain, Don/Kathy/Cosmo)
Don will always say that he fell in love with Kathy at first sight.
It’s a good story. It doesn’t really matter that the truth is a little more complicated.
A good solid OT3 get-together, but with some good queer backstory feels for Don.
Things Floating Like the First Hundred Flakes of Snow by @beaarthurpendragon (MCU, Steve/Bucky)
In the summer of 1968, the Winter Soldier manages to break free of his HYDRA programming enough to get a message to SHIELD Deputy Director Peggy Carter that Captain America is still alive.
Or: How Bucky and Steve save one another, one more time.
Great AU with a fantastic older Peggy interacting with the Winter Soldier, and then some brutally good depiction of Bucky working through his brainwashing/trauma (guest-starring Charles Xavier) and a happy ending - or rather, a beginning.
5 Times Tim Spends the Night at Wayne Manor + 1 Time He Comes Home by @motleyfam (DCU, gen)
Tim is good at galas.
No, scratch that—Tim is great at galas. He’s been attending them ever since the age of three, when his parents first stuffed him into his little Gymboree tuxedo and gave him a stern lecture about ‘sitting quietly’ and ‘speaking when spoken to.’ He knows all the rules: what to wear, how to stand, when to smile, what to say, what not to say. He knows how to come across as polite and intelligent and charming, and on absolutely any other day, he would be rocking this.
Or, my take on a ‘Tim Joins the Family Early’ AU, told through a series of sleepovers—most of which are unplanned.
Directly in my favorite overlap of Wayne Adoptive Family Feels, Tim thinking his life is totally normal (no parental neglect here!), and good soft h/c.

Survey Writing Guide: Fandom Edition
Sooo! People are collecting survey data on fandom! Makes sense — fandom is an interesting population to study, and getting data on attitudes/behaviors/etc is a great way to try to find out the truth about popular points of contention about media. To get unbiased, meaningful data, though, you’ll want to make sure your survey is in good shape. This is a guide to try to help you do that.
I am assuming, if you are reading this, that you want your survey to be unbiased and interpretable, sampling from as many viewpoints as possible and getting data on opinions you might agree and disagree with. In other words, I am assuming that you want to do your fandom research in good faith. If that is not why you are making a fandom survey, then you can ignore this whole post. I would ask you to reconsider running a bad-faith fandom survey, but I can’t stop you. But just know that my assumption is that you’re out here in the honest pursuit of truth.
I’m not accusing a survey of being done in bad faith if it doesn’t follow my suggestions. I also realize most people are conducting these surveys in their spare time because they’re passionate & curious, not for the purpose of serious publication or whatever. I’m not telling you that you have to follow all or even any of the advice here. Do what you feel good about doing. Fandom should be fun!
This guide is only about surveys themselves, and will not help you get a good sample of your fandom. In other words, none of this advice will make sure your survey reaches obscure corners of your fandom, insular communities you aren’t in, or casual fans. A good survey is important, but it’s only one part of getting accurate data, and participation recruitment is a whole other thing.
This is also only intended to help with survey setup, not analysis or results reporting. You can write a great, unbiased, easy to understand survey, and still present your results in a way that is biased/doesn’t include good information/is hard to understand. Furthermore, once your results are public, they’re out of your hands: you might be well-meaning, but please keep in mind that some people might use your data to make unfair or incorrect assumptions about others, support biased arguments, or generally behave unpleasantly. That’s just part of survey work; don’t let it stop you, but don’t be surprised if/when it happens.
Now, onto the survey tips ~
Think about how to structure your questions
Use multiple choice answers/avoid free response answers as much as possible. This is going to be really helpful for you when it’s time to analyze your data: it’s so much easier to analyze responses that are just clicks of a box than responses that require you to read someone’s long explanation of an opinion and try to figure out what they mean. It also makes answering easier on your participants: clicking a box is a lot easier for them than writing out what they think. Giving an option for them to expand on their answer in a free response text box is great, but try to capture as many possible responses as you can in multiple choice questions.
Consider: should participants be able to give more than one response per question? A good rule of thumb for this is if different responses to a question are mutually exclusive or not: if they are mutually exclusive, only give people the option of clicking one box; if they’re not, let them choose as many as they want. For example, if you want to know somebody’s ONE favorite season of a show, only let them choose one season. If you want to know ALL the seasons they like, give them the option to choose multiple.
Only include one question per question
A LOT of surveys ask questions that are actually several questions in one, and that makes answering them difficult! For example, you might THINK you’re only asking one thing if you say “Are you introverted or shy?” as a yes/no question, but that is actually two questions: some people are introverted but not shy; some people are shy but not introverted; some people are both introverted and shy, and some people are neither. People who respond “yes” might mean they are one or the other or both, and people who respond “no” might mean they are one or the other or neither — and you’ll have no way of knowing, because your question was too ambiguous.
If you’re asking a question about a nuanced topic, make sure your question and possible responses are nuanced too
People in fandom have a lot of complex views, and giving them only a black-and-white way to tell you about those views means you will miss out on nuance and get inaccurate results. If you are wondering about opinions on a controversial pairing, asking “Do you think it’s okay to ship Reylo?” (for example) and only letting people respond yes or no is not going to capture the range of opinions that exist on Reylo. If you can include multiple answer boxes for people to click, do that!
Analyzing free response data (where people can write their own answer) is hard on you, as the survey writer, and people might not feel like explaining their opinions. Definitely include a free response box if you want, but also provide a lot of options for responses.
The more controversial the topic you’re asking about, the more nuance you should let your participants give in their responses. People in fandom often have very strong and very complex opinions about certain issues; you’ll want to make sure not to flatten those opinions too much, while still keeping them simple enough to analyze. Asking “do you enjoy reading fluff?” is (probably) not going to be too complicated, and you’ll likely be fine giving people 2-3 response options (yes/always, sometimes, no/never). But you should give a lot more response options if you’re asking “is it ever acceptable to ship two siblings together?”: some people will be fine with “yes, always” or “no, never,” but a LOT of people are going to want to specify conditions like “only if they are not blood relatives” or “only if it is framed as being bad” or “it’s acceptable sometimes but I personally avoid it,” etc. Make sure people without clear-cut opinions have the ability to give you their opinions too.
Use simple, clear language
Use language that is as simple and precise as possible. Keep questions short when you can. Avoid using a lot of slang and regional idioms: people come from all over the place in fandom, and might not know what you mean. People also have a lot of different reading levels: you want to make sure most of your participants can understand what you’re asking them.
There are some terms you can assume everyone in your sample will know, and some that you can’t: it’s up to you to figure out which terms are which. For example, most people in tumblr fandom space will understand what a ship is. They might not know what “IC” means though, so you might need to write it out as “in character.” Further, pretty much everyone in the MCU fandom might know what “Stucky” is, but not as many will know what “Coulwhip” is. You can make these kinds of technical terms easier for people to understand by just writing out all abbreviations and writing all pairings in the Name/Name format.
Use neutral language and keep your personal opinions out of it
Avoid inserting your own opinions into your survey, even if you expect that almost everyone participating will agree with you. Even “obvious” jokes won’t read as jokes to everyone; you might upset/offend/put off some group of participants disproportionately such that they won’t complete the survey, and you’ll miss a chunk of data you want. This is a problem, because say, for example, you really want to know if people’s favorite Supernatural ship has any correlation to fans’ personality traits — but if you poked fun at Dean somewhere else in your survey in a way that made Dean fans click off the page, then you’re going to lose a lot of Dean fan data that it would have been really useful for you to have, since Dean is a very popular character to ship with a lot of other characters.
A good-faith survey is also not the place to moralize. Fandom can be a very polarized place; you are not going to be able to predict which things you ask about are going to be morally objectionable to your participants, and if they’re going to agree with your moral judgments. Your results might surprise you! A survey where you hope to get accurate data is not the place to defend a problematic character you like or to call some group of shippers gross. Your best bet for not causing issues is to include stuff that’s controversial and to be as neutral about it as possible — for example, if you are asking about ships people like, include every reasonably popular ship (potentially excluding rarepairs/extreme rarepairs just because it’s hard to include all of those), even the ones you hate/think are harmful/whatever, and don’t comment on the goodness or badness of any of them.
Avoid “leading” questions to avoid bias
If you say, “Do you love this awesome TV show?” that’s going to be awkward to respond to for everyone whose answer is anything other than “yes.” Something like “What is your opinion of this TV show?” (with responses like: I love it, I like it, I have mixed feelings about it, I am neutral toward it, I dislike it, and I hate it) will give you a better sense of people’s genuine thoughts.
Select your multiple choice options thoughtfully
Be as egalitarian as possible in the options you provide to your fandom-specific questions that aren’t free response. If you leave out a major character on a list of favorite characters, for example, your participants are going to wonder why you did that — and you might not get data about that character, especially if you don’t include a free response option.
Avoid bias in your multiple choice answer options
If you ask people for their favorite and least favorite [something], make sure the list of [something] options for both of those questions is identical. For example, if you’re asking about people’s most liked and most disliked ships, make sure the list of ships you include for both questions is the same. Including Sylvie/Loki only on the “ship you most dislike” but not the “ship you most like” list might seem like a reasonable move to you if you don’t know anybody who (openly) likes Sylvie/Loki, but doing that will bias responses and make your data inaccurate. Some people will stop filling out the survey, some people who like Sylkie just won’t want to bother filling in the blank, some people might forget that they like Sylkie unless it’s right in front of their eyes as one of the response options, some people will feel judged and so they won’t answer your survey honestly, etc.
Follow common best practices advice for demographic information
Collecting information on respondents’ ages, genders, race/ethnicity, employment status, education history, etc is, luckily, very common, so there are a lot of standard questions about those things. I’ll just go ahead and list what I sometimes collect in my own surveys:
Age: for anonymous fandom surveys, I suggest using age groups (under 13, 13-18, 19-25, 26-35, etc) instead of asking people for their precise ages. Just make sure to include all possible age brackets. For example, don’t assume everyone in fandom is under 50.
Gender: unless you want a lot of nuance in your responses, it’s typically enough to include a list like: man/boy or male, woman/girl or female, nonbinary, genderfluid or bigender, and other. If you are interested in trans people specifically, I suggest asking that in a separate question (like: “Do you identify as transgender?”), rather than including binary trans identities in addition to binary cis identities in the same question. The exception to this is if you are including a very long list of gender options.
Race/ethnicity: (disclaimer that most of the data I collect comes from the US, so my best practices are most suited to that population. I welcome any feedback about the best way to ask about this for an international and/or non-US population.) I typically ask something like: “Which category best describes you?” and then give the options: American Indian or Native Alaskan, Asian, Black, Hispanic or Latinx, Middle Eastern or North African, Pacific Islander or Native Hawaiian, White, and other. Ideally, this list should allow multiple responses, so that multiracial/multiethnic people can give accurate reports.
Employment status: “What is your employment status?” with responses: employed full time, employed part-time, unemployed and looking for work, unemployed and not looking for work, self-employed, homemaker, student, and retired. If possible, let this be multiple choice, so that, for example, people who are students AND work can select both applicable options.
Education level: “What is your highest level of education?” with responses: some high school, high school diploma or equivalent, some college, college degree, some graduate education, Master’s degree, Doctorate degree, professional degree (e.g. M.D., J.D., M.Div, etc)
Sexual orientation: like with gender, you probably don’t need to provide a long, comprehensive list unless your survey is about sexual orientation specifically. Something like the following is probably enough to cover most of your respondents: “What is your sexual orientation?” with responses: straight/heterosexual, gay/lesbian/homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and other.
Other questions: just try to make sure you are providing response options that will cover the majority of your participants, and include an “other” option if you’re not sure you’ve covered everything. There are a fair number of basic best practices documents for common demographics questions that you can find through Google, so if you’re not sure how to ask something, give it a quick search. You can also ask people you know who might know more about some specific demographic quality than you do to weigh in!
That’s it for now! I hope you find this helpful, either in writing your own surveys, or in evaluating surveys you are participating in!

MCU & LGBTQ+
Tumblr media
I made a survey about the MCU and LGBTQ+ topics! I would deeply appreciate it if you took the time to answer my questions.
I was curious about some attitudes/thoughts/opinions in the MCU fandom in relation to the LGBTQ+ community, and thus this was born! Feel free to share this around. This will be completely anonymous!
This survey will have sections focused on:
More personal stuff, such as your orientation(s), gender(s), and pronouns.
Ways you headcanon characters as LGBTQ+.
Thoughts on canon queer characters.
Thoughts on canon ships.
Thoughts on queerbaiting.
Thoughts on queercoding.
Thoughts on shipping in relation to yourself.
Thoughts on shipping in relation to the fandom.
The only questions you are required to answer is the final two. I plan on writing something up about the results on Tumblr in a while (late August/early September). I can see each of your individual answers to each question. You will be required to let me know if I have permission to use your specific answers in quotations, paraphrase, etc. You will also be required to give me permission to use your answers in my data at all (56% ship Lokius or whatever). The only answer there is yes, so you have to give me permission in order to submit. I would very much appreciate if you gave me permission, but if you do not want to give me permission, please do not.
Also, if you would like to add more detail, you are welcome to use the "Other" option where you can write your thoughts.
If there is anything that needs to be fixed with this survey, let me know and I'll fix it.
Please only take this once! If you take this multiple times, it will skew my data!
If you have questions, send an anonymous ask to tumblr user lokigodofaces.
Should take 30-45 minutes.
This is open until September 5, 2021!
Please spread this around! Even off of tumblr! I'm gonna go ahead and tag a couple of people here. Some showed interest in this, others I just know and am tagging to spread the word.

And the argument that wlw couples always want kids in shows, but not all of us watch all those shows. Some people only watch 1 or 2 of those shows and that’s their only exposure to the rep they’ve been waiting for after decades of just seeing heteros getting the marriage and kids. Sure I get wanting to see something different for your ship but it’s weird how people are so against and even upset about something that should be celebrated because it’s actually a win in a broader sense for queers
yh i mean, i'd love to do a survey that actually counts how many wlw couples have kids in 2022 tv, but its not like, in the hundreds lol. i bet its in the tens. and those are spread across all sorts of genres, many of which ppl wont be interested in,, even within superhero tv shows its hardly wall to wall wlw babies. i know alex and kelly adopted, is that it? the mcu certainly doesnt have any in their movies lol
i think its fine for people not to like it, each to their own, but its not wrong in some grand 'representation' sence yknow

For wips, tog trek or the Vietnam war au? Love your writing 💛
Thank you! <3
Ah yes my two WIPs of greatest guilt & shame. TOG Trek is the future!fic that assumes Star Trek (AOS) is part of the same canon verse because I said so, 200ish years after the events of the movie. I had a nifty idea and started writing it a year and a half ago. And then I just...got stuck.
So of course that's the fic I signed up for the Big Bang this year. So now I'm still just as stuck but also super stressed about deadlines! Yay team!
Snippet:
It happened like this: just over two years ago, the planet Vulcan was destroyed by a grief-mad Romulan, and Joe and Nicky had a fight.
Okay. That's an oversimplification.
Maybe she needs to go back further to find the root cause. How about this: forty-odd years after Nile gained her immortality, Andromache the Scythian passed away peacefully in her sleep, and humans made first contact with extraterrestrial beings when a Vulcan survey ship touched down in Bozeman, Montana.
Those two events will always be indelibly linked, for Nile. For all of them. A clear defining moment in history, dividing time neatly into a before and an after.
And then there's Vietnam War AU, which is the MCU Steve/Bucky fic I started working on juuuust before my brain went fizz and I dropped out of fandom for three solid years. So, uh. That fic was one of several casualties of my fannish hiatus, and definitely the one I regret the most, because I really liked the idea and really lost all steam when the MCU took a hard turn into stories I don't enjoy anymore. Basically it was an AU retelling of First Avenger if their war had been Vietnam instead of WWII, so, y'know. Kinda bleak. Steve's an antiwar protestor, Bucky gets drafted, Steve then enlists out of desperation and it's kinda dubious how much he consents to the serum, lots of disillusionment etc. It's one of those ideas I very much wished someone else would write because I wasn't sure I could handle it well enough, and then I never managed to write it properly at all. I've got a few scene fragments written (not chronologically) and no idea if I'll ever pick it back up again, but I still do wish someone would write it.
Snippet, as though the entire doc is anything but snippets:
There's footsteps coming down the hall, but that's been a fairly regular occurrence overnight, so Steve doesn't bother looking up until the key scrapes against the lock and the cell door creaks open. "Rogers," the guard says, sounding bored, and the handful of other guys locked up in here sigh and settle back in. One dude gives Steve a half-hearted thumbs up, which Steve shrugs off.
Once he gets out to the intake area, though, his blood pressure jacks up again. "Goddamnit, I told Becca not to call you."
"And Becca called me anyway, because she's not a fucking idiot like you are," Bucky snaps right back. "Claim your damn stuff and let's get out of here."
Steve doesn't have much stuff to claim. A battered old backpack with some rolled up posters and a lighter; he's vaguely surprised they didn't confiscate that as evidence. "I don't need you to bail me out--"
"The hell you don't."
"I told Becca I was fine--"
"You told Becca to raid the fucking shoebox under your mattress, because you are secretly an old man who grew up in the Depression or some shit," Bucky says, exasperated, "when I know you haven't got enough squirreled away in there anyway. And seriously, Steve, burning up your draft card? What the fuck was the point of that? Even if your number did ever come up, the doctors would stamp a 4F on your skinny ass faster'n you could spit."
