You know what? I think what gets me about this quote is that it kinda captures Gintoki's overall headspace in regards to his life.

Like, I feel like the driving force for Gintoki to keep living — for a lot of the series — is all the promises he's made throughout his life and his absolute determination to keep them. He is determined to never break another promise again, because the last time he did... well.

And it's these promises that drive him. These are the chains he's placed upon himself to keep going in this life. But he's just existing. And that focus on survival is what he wants for the kids. Life doesn't have to be fun as long as your alive. As long as you can wake up the next day and put one foot in front of the other.

But it's not what they want to hear. It's not what they want. Because they don't want to just exist. They've already done that, when they were existing alone on rainy planets and struggling to keep their family's home. Life was something to live for as soon as they met Gintoki. A chaotic world filled with danger and death is worth living in, as long as Gintoki is with them.

And I think it's kinda here at this point that Gintoki realises that and starts to want to live. For them. And maybe start to live for himself.

For the couples asks, #1 and #12 for Jas/Tristian and Vikkari/Arue?

1.What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re…hot…”

I think for Jas, there wasn’t really a specific moment, she just has eyes and can see that Tristian is v attractive lol. For Tristian, it was the first time Jas cast something like Shield of Faith or Archon's Aura and was all glowy and righteous and he had kind of an …uhoh. I can’t do this moment.

For Vikkari it was when Arue one-shotted the derakni in Greengates, the one from the arrival cutscene. That was really hot. For Arue, there was a time she was looking for Vikkari to talk to him and found him with Seelah, laughing at something she’d said. Unrestrained joy looks really good on him(also he’s hot anyway) and she had a big time “oh no he’s hot” moment that flustered her so bad she ran away xD

12. How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

I think they're both in the middle, with Jas/Tristian maybe a little more toward doing everything together than Vikkari/Arue. Given their canonical endings.

Tristian stayed with Jas in her kingdom and they're practically joined at the hip(figuratively, there's too much height difference to be literal xD) her whole life. They enjoy each other's company, trust each other, have similar interests. While they will occasionally go do their own thing, it never takes long to drift back together.

Vikkari keeps up(returns to?) his wandering lifestyle after the Worldwound is closed, and Arue settles down outside a village. He visits her a lot, and it's my firm personal belief that those visits get longer and closer together until one day he just... doesn't leave. Nothing out there compares to what's here. They're a little more likely, even after that point, to go do their own thing and not rush finding their way back together.

When you two finally talk (Peko was encouraging Fuyuhiko too be the one to talk to you due to him just running away) he is very bashful and stammering over his words as he curses at himself in his head.

You find this cute but you don’t want to get him all pissy cause this is the first time you guys talked and you noticed how he scrambled away when you try to talk to him.

After you guys talk a little more, a little more turns into more. He starts getting even more stressed about his insane crush on you.

Peko has to help him out with this and helps him confess his feelings for you.

He’s tsundere how you accepted his feelings for you and told him about yours but really, he is relieved that you accept his feelings and is losing his shit on the inside.

Peko helps him set up a small date at the cabin and tells everyone just to not bug y’all. God bless her.

You guys are food and chat happily, laughing and teasing one another in a playful manner. The date was a successful, funny, and playful time for the both of you and you guys enjoyed every single second, minute, and hour.
