Rogue Arthur AU

I had this thought after watching Naruto, what if this Sorcerer or magical being shows up and because of some grudge or disrespectful act of Uthers, they reveal to everyone all of his secret baggage.

The secret of Morgana's heritage and Arthur's birth are revealed and both siblings are angry.

(Should mention this is before Morgause)

Merlin conflicted, doesn't know what to do. After hearing the truth, it made him angry to finally understand why all these deaths, the killing of magic occurred. It was not because of the act of Sorcery, but because of the foolishness of a man. One who did not think twice about the price for a life when he believes it would not affect him or others close by. (He knows it's a bit hypocritical of him consider the Nimue event, but he fixed it and learned to be more cautious with knowing the details of a deal.)

But even in his anger Merlin has one point of clarity, and that would always be his love for his friends, for Arthur.

When Arthur and Morgana moved to try and kill the King, not even the knights or councillors moved to stop them. Gaius tried to talk sense into them but him being the back man for Uther for years didn't earn him their ears, regardless of the years of care, he always stood by Uther.

But when Merlin stood before them, their friend and the only servant that would speak up at a noble regardless of the consequences, they paused for him.

Arthur: Merlin! Get out of the way! This has nothing to do with you!

Merlin: Oh, but it does! More then you know, but please listen to me. I know you both are angry and rightly so for what Uther has done and kept from you both. You're right to hate him.

Morgana: Then move aside Merlin, let us avenge all those this... this Tyrant has killed!

Arthur: Because of him my mother died when she did not need too, when she herself did not even know of what he did just for an heir! And when he got what he wanted, it wasn't worth it, and he couldn't even accept what he'd done and instead blamed others, blame magic and sorcerers for his own guilt!

Morgana: And even worst, he cheated on her. He had me when he was still very much married to his queen! He betrayed my Father Gorlois, and once I was born had my mother assassinated to keep the secret quiet! Why shouldn't we kill him for everything he's done!

Merlin: *Breaths* Because, there has already been enough blood spilt by Pendragon hands.

Merlin: Uther has already taken the lives of so many people, people who are scared and hiding, waiting, praying for better times, and a better place where they can stand in the light of day and not be afraid of who they are.

Morgana: Then-!

Merlin: Then what? We kill him and what would they see? More Pendragons killing their own father. What would they see but more blood and Pendragon on the throne. It won't be the end, even if you were to lift the Magic Ban, what about those that lived so long under Uther believing his propaganda? They wouldn't just go for it. They'll rebel because they'll see Magic as the reason you both killed Uther and it won't stop the misunderstanding. It'll grow, unless we stop the cycle of hatred!

Arthur & Morgana: ...

Merlin: You both are ten times the person Uther is. Don't let him win this battle by sharing his violence.

He basically used talk-no-jutsu to prevent his two friends from killing their sperm-donner, instead they sentenced him to the dungeons until they could figure out a better punishment.

But! In truly Uther fashion, the King would not stand for this act of "betrayal" from his own children.

He escapes with the aid of some still loyal councillors and older knights and tried to subdue Morgana and Arthur's faction and take back control of Camelot.

In the chaos and fighting, Merlin reveals his magic to save either Morgana or Arthur, shocking the two newly known siblings with his secret. In their distraction they didn't see the attack until it was too late.

Uther, witness to the same magic that saved his childrens life, became enraged and believing it was all cause of Merlin that his children fight against him (rejecting the facts previously made known and Merlin basically being the reason he's not a corpse, cause I can see him blaming others still) without further prompting, he came from behind the sorcerer and ran him through the heart.

Merlin dies and all hell breaks loose.

Arthur snaps.

In a fit of righteous rage and screaming heartbreak. He disarmed Uther, quite literally.

The old kings hand laid on the castle floor before he saw his sons eyes and truly feared. He and his allies flee Camelot.

Arthur screamed his fury at Uthers escape and much later after gathering Merlin's body and burying him alongside his mother, he vows to himself, that no more shall be taken from him. He promises himself that he will have Uthers head and avenge his Mother and Merlin.

With this, Arthur declares Morgana as Crown Princess and that he relinquishes the rights to the throne to her before leaving Camelot and hunting down Uther himself.

No one could stop him, not Gwen, not Gaius, not Morgana.

Only one could have, but they lay beneath the castle, never to raise again.

Or so they thought...

One night after Arthur discovers that Merlin has magic

Arthur: *shakes Merlin* Merlin, Merlin wake up!

Merlin: wha- what do you want?

Arthur: did you ever use you magic to cheat at dice?

Merlin: why are you asking? Why does this matter right now? *He rubs his eyes*

Arthur: did you or did you not??

Merlin: yeah yeah, I did, can we go back to sleep now?

Arthur: I FUCKING KNEW YOU WERE CHEATING

I started this year making a meme about John Green being back and I thought that would be the wildest thing to happen this year... Clearly I was wrong. I feel like the universe is just confused about what year it is... I'm in my mid 20s now and I don't need to be going through this again.

Idea for an alternate ending:

Merlin gets Arthur to the lake in time and manage to save him.

They spend the night by the lake just talking, like they have been for the past few days, and realise that neither of them is ready to return to Camelot. For various reasons. They decide to take to the roads instead, just disappear, together.

Eventually their (few remaining) friends start to worry and the queen sends out her knights searching for them. Maybe Gaius points them towards the lake and maybe the knights find a neat pile of Arthurs belongings nearby, like his armour and cape (To heavy to carry and to easy to identify) and just assumes the worst. They knew Arthur was injured, and now presumably dead, but where is Merlin? Perhaps the grief was just to much for him? Perhaps he went home? But Hunith hasn't seen him either.

They are both gone. And life moves on.

Until a few months later when rumors start reaching the castle, about two heroes helping people throughout the realm. A fighter and a sorcerer working together using their skills to take out different threats from low life bandits to magical creatures attacking people.

No one really suspects anythingat first, but Gwen sends out her knights to find these two heroes. To confirm the rumors and if so offer a reward for their bravery. And maybe see if they would be willing to join forces?

It's not until Sir Leon hears a description of the two that he start to wonder.. A blond sword fighter with blue eyes and a regal nose who talks like a noble? A dark haired sorcerer also with blue eyes and a wide infectious smile? And they are constantly bickering and insulting each other? It couldn't be? Could it?

Trying not to get his hopes up Leon still doubles the search efforts.

No matter what they do though the knights seems to always be one step behind the two. Always gone before the knights reach the village or town they just saved. Missed them by a few days, a few hours down to mere minutes.

Somewhere along the way Leon hears about The Kiss. Told by an eye witness who saw the blond grab the warlock by the front of his tunic, haul him in and kiss him fiercely for almost getting himself killed (again, the idiot <- Arthurs note).

And suddenly things are making alot more sense. Why they never came back. Why they are staying away and don't want to be found.

He never tells Gwen. Or anyone. But that is the day Leon starts pulling back, cutting down on the search. Telling everyone it's not worth it, it has been over a year ( several years?) and there are more important things for the knights of Camelot to do then chasing ghosts. It's better if people start moving on with their lives instead. They are not coming back.

An undecided amount of time later Leon finds himself drinking alone in some random tavern in some random town, in an unknown part of the kingdom. When two cloaked strangers sit down uninvited at his table. And as he looks up their hoods fall back to reveal two very familiar and very dear faces.

Merlin grins widely. 'We heard you were looking for us?'

Arthur had thought long about it but Llamrei was getting too old to ride out with them on treacherous quests and Merlin would need another mount sooner rather than later. Sure it was not common for a king to gift his servant a horse, even more so if said horse was the most expensive one in the stables but it had reminded him of Merlin. Its long mane fell in raven waves down to its legs and despite its size it had a patient and calm temperament.

So when the stallion had finally arrived from Nemeth where he had bought it from Mithian's stablemaster he giddily dragged Merlin with him.

Merlin: "Oi! You prat slow down or do you want me to split my head open."

Arthur, who was rolling his eyes: "We are almost there!"

Merlin: "What are we doing here I mucked out Hengroen's box this morning!"

But they didn't stop at Hengroen's box, instead Arthur pulled him towards the next one where Merlin came face to face with his present.

The servant was immediately smitten and reached out to stroked its soft neck.

"Wow he's stunning. But you have a horse Arthur."

"Good thing he is yours then."

And Merlin looked at him like he waited for the king to tell him it was a joke, but that moment never came.

"Mine??"

Arthur nodded with a pleased smile "Yours. Llamrei is getting too old to travel long distanced with a rider and this one will do the job."

"I can't possibly... But well now he's here already and he seems to like me... Does he have a name? And I don't mean a fancy one nobody can pronounce."

Strangely Arthur's face started to redden at the question but he tried to play it down. "You can give him a new one it doesn't matter."

"You gave him a name didn't you?" The servant narrowed his eyes. "Comeeeee oooon what is it?"

After some fumbling Arthur finally replied: "Well I bought him for you and I thought it was only fitting... I mean with your name and all and I don't know you can still change it if you want-"

"Arthur what is his name?"

"Sparrow"

which in hindsight reminded me of another character’s untimely death and last words…
