My own list in this post is anime, manga, games mostly but in the spreadsheet you can add anything.

Following my tierlist of them, I realized I should make a public list so theyre not just kept in my head, since I spent quite a while finding these characters. If you want to watch/play anything with trans or gnc characters, you can use this list.

They range from good rep to bad, characters viewed as "traps" or not taken seriously to ones that the whole fandom understands is trans. I've added trigger warnings to the characters and fandoms I know can be triggering. I've also put certain names in bold to show that they're a main character, but i've only watched a few on this list so some are missing.

I would add trigger warnings for "bury your gays" and similar tropes, but I want to avoid spoilers. Maybe you can look it up first if you're worried. I've tried to exclude characters that are referred to as hermaphrodites.

The "crossdressers" section obviously includes some spoilers.

The Komi Report - Communication 453

This week in Komi Can't Communicate:

A check-in with the band geeks

Read It: Mangareader Mangakakalot Viz Media (North America Exclusive) Mangadex (English updates are dead, but there’s the backlog; and Spanish + Portuguese language updates)

Regrettably, it's not the biggest YamaNaka chapter in history.

I'm thieving and stealing this meme made by friend-of-The-Report @strykno because I resonate with it deeply

We're out here snuffling for crumbs and getting only motes of dust. But I can't spend all day being bitter that my utterly unjustified expectations are going unsatisfied (although I can and I will).

It's nice to learn something new about a member of Perro Rabbit. With Yamai and Nakanaka always the focus, the other girls do a lot of standing around in the background. This chapter doesn't give us much, but we do learn one important detail:

They have band practice in an apartment???? On like the fourth floor?????? An electronic drum kit will not save you. Your amps will vibrate your edgy emo rock directly through the the floor and cause a small earth quake in the downstairs unit.

But seriously, the actual important detail is...

...that Ojosa goes through parents like I go through mars bars. Tbh though, I think her life isn't tragic enough. I think her sad story about never feeling like she has a real home is weakened by how nice her step-family is. The band environment doesn't contrast with the family environment, because they both seem rather pleasant; except for the two gay idiots who insist on bickering even though it's obvious they want to kiss really bad.

I think Ojosa's family should be at least a little cold and distant; less accommodating. Then the casual warmth and fun of the band would contrast with her home life.

Maybe the band practice could have started at Ojosa's place, but then her step-mother says they have to stop because Ojosa's step-sisters want the room or something like that (anything that shows the sisters always get priority. It's Cinderella). So then the band moves to someone else's place, and the space is smaller and a little run-down (in contrast to the bourgeois mansion Ojosa lives in) but they're free to be themselves there and so it's warm and happy. Queue the sob story about missing connection to family and never having a real home. Queue my tears of sorrow.

(we don't get hello fresh anymore my dad just saved the recipe cards lmao) idk I just really like it. (we cant have it anymore bc according to my stepmom 'its not soup season.' cries)

📚- gegegegeggeg favorite book I'm excited. ok here's a few: Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White, The Spirit Bares It's Teeth by Andrew Joseph White, My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix, The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes by Mei Hachimoku, and probably some others I forgot.

The books by Andrew Joseph White have gore, homophobia/transphobia, religious trauma, ableism and a lot of other stuff so I would take caution before reading (I also believe there's a warning at the beginning of them, I might be wrong but I hope I'm not?? I don't have them with me rn)

(excuse my bad summarizing lmao)

Hell Followed With Us is about a trans boy escaping from a cult but he was chosen to be the savior or whatever so he had this like??? substance?? infection??? (OKAY THANK YOU GOODREADS. its a bioweapon) put in him so he'd become the monster thing its great. (lots of gore, though)

The Spirit Bares It's Teeth (okay sorry if this one is especially bad this book is hard to descirbe) is about an autistic trans boy who wants to be a doctor ?? I think there's this whole setting thing with ghosts and stuff (its pretty cool I just don't know how to describe it lmao) basically he's put in an arranged marriage and was diagnosed with 'veil sickness' so he has to go to a boarding school. lots of gore. I don't want to spoil a specific scene but there is gore very much. its a super good book though.. I need to reread it

My Best Friend's Exorcism also has gore in it?? I think?? it gets pretty disturbing so. It's set in the 80's where this girl's best friend goes missing one night and then comes back possessed (obviously, as stated in the title) but no one believes her when she tries to tell people that that is not her friend. her friend gets all evil n shit (I mean she is possessed by a demon)

The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes is about a boy who hears rumors at school about this tunnel that will grant your wishes in exchange for you getting older. he finds the tunnel and is intrigued. (he also wants to know if it can make his sister come back bc she died in a tragic accident)

and unrelated but I also like the Komi Can't Communicate and TBHK mangas :3

Not FT-related, but out of curiosity, have you read Komi Can't Communicate? Its main focus is on friendship and comradery and it prioritizes platonic connections in a really wholesome way, so I thought you might like it!

I have! I am OBSESSED with it! Was. I calme ddown after a while. I have been reawakened. Would you believe if I told you I read it all, and then something like a month later an anime was announced.

Honestly my favourite part of how much I've read of it, was how the Manbagi-Tadano-Komi love triangle was written, solved, and concluded in such a wonderful, perfect way. The girls respectfully, heartbreakingly came to an understanding and cried about it together, despite knowing one of them has to give up for the other. And everyone's so damn supporting. I wish the Nalu-Nali debate could have had that treatment. Lisanna and Lucy's friendship was stolen from us.

But anyways. I adore Komi can't Communicate! I think people consider Komi a Mary Sue in disdainful ways, but they've all missed the point! A mary sue is usually regarded as bad because they're too perfect and unrelatable. Komi is 'too perfect and hailed' too, but it's played as something that drives her into a corner in comedic ways, and her social anxiety and communication disorder is the most relatable form of it I have ever seen in any media, ever. She is a Mary Sue? Sure! In the best way possible, because someone has managed to make a Mary sue relatable as heck.

I love everyone's relationships, especially the 'boys will be boys' moments in field trip episodes, but I was most surprised by how the romance spoke to me, especially since that's the thing I look out for the least in any media. I think that's an indicator of just how good the romance was written and developed over those hundreds of chapters.

And I always adore nonsensical, parody and pun-stuffed slapstick comedy. it reminds me of Gintama, another of my faves. All the references and Japanese-exclusive puns (like all of their names) make it difficult for a common audience to really understand these kinds of anime, so I'm kind of sad I don't have a ton of friends to talk about it with.

Anyways, to this day a joke that vividly remains in my mind is Tadano's report card with the perfect averages across the board. He is literally the Satou guy from Saiki Kusuo, but if he were a main character. Tadano is the best boy, hands down. He is the perfect main character with how wonderful he is as a human being.

And I still die inside knowing there are people who don't get or read those tiny footnotes and extra subs that explain puns to them in other languages. Osana Najimi should have been literally translated as Friendy Childhood in the dub so people could understand the magnificence of that pun. I don't even watch dubs.

Whoops! I missed... a bunch of chapters. I read them all but I was in a period of languish and missed my reports. Pobody's nerfect. Rumiko recorded her application for Uni and had a conversation with Wakai about their relationship (extremely good).
