im watching the new futurama episode, im about 5 minutes in. first seeing this smartphone made me scared, secondly, a lot of parts feels like a really long hulu commercial. and the ' joke ' of the intro was it said hulurama for a bit and this part fry goes 'i want to watch thousands of shows at the click of a button with the power of Fulu!' [paraphrasing but thats basically what he said]

also, it feels like all of the budget for jokes went into hiring someone to go "okay whats popular" and then look up "futurama words" to cram in there

World Running Down by Al Hess - scifi/romance with a transmasc MC; a salvager from the wastelands takes on an unusual job that might gain him a place in the utopian Salt Lake City, teaming up with a mysterious AI from the city who's been trapped in a robot body

Pluralities by Avi Silver - weird scifi novella with a nonbinary MC and transmasc love interest; alternates between seemingly unrelated stories about a person with premonitions just starting to realize something's Up with their gender, and an alien prince who's run away from home with his sentient spaceship companion

Aoba: Cisgender gay. Don’t really see any trans vibes off of him, but holy SHIT this is the ultimate example you could point to of someone neck deep in closeted homophobia/heteronormativity. There’s no way he’s into women the way he reacts to them genuinely flirting with him.

Koujaku: Transfeminine bisexual in the worst way imaginable. She’s so far in the closet she’s going to cause a canon event for everyone around her the literal second she figures it out. Basically the epitome of a“Yeah I’m a man, but god women just have it so much better. They’re prettier, smarter, kinder, their bodies are so much better, anyone would rather be a woman right lol” egg. Mommy issues make her taste in women basically just “what if my mom but different”, her taste in men is Aoba and Aoba-adjacents.

Clear: Transfeminine or genderfluid. No preference sexuality wise and doesn’t really think about it. If presented with the labels, they’d probably say pansexual was closest. Whimsical she/they manic pixie dream robot. Tae and her scientist friend help her physically transition :>

Noiz: Trans guy or cis guy. I’m open to both gender interpretations because on one hand, he’s the easiest “alternative punk guy from high school who was secretly a trust fund kid” read ever, but on the other hand MAN you can store so much transmasc trauma from being forced to present a certain way due to familial expectations in this guy. He states in game he’d date Aoba no matter his gender so yeah that’s pretty bi or pan. I don’t think he cares about labels tbh he’d just say he’s queer.

Mink: Nonbinary bisexual. I’m TELLING you, this is a he/they king who refuses to adhere to the largely Eurocentric ideals on gender (because frankly gender roles are idiotic to him), but had to perform hypermasculinity to survive and is now sick of it. Let them live their cottagecore lifestyle with their traditionally-seen-as feminine career in jewelry crafts in peace.

Ren: Agender. Being a robot dog for a long ass time and then suddenly having a separate identity in a separate body would do some gender fuckery to you. I don’t think he thinks about sexuality at all I think he just thinks “Aoba? Yeah sure”.

Mizuki: Gay trans guy. Not too much to go off on why I think he’s gay. Vibes based. But the trans thing is p popular for him and I can see why. There’s def an element of him feeling like he has to prove his masculinity. And also the t-boy ass haircut and Morphine fit.

Virus & Trip: They don’t think about their sexuality or gender they just like to fuck with people. No self actualization in their heads.

Desire: Gay guy but in a really vague sense. I think he’s so disassociated from his sense of self as a person that it makes him just see himself as disembodied desire rather than an actual guy yknow. He does NOT gaf about women tho so he has that on lock.

I’m not doing any other side characters I don’t think they’re anything too noteworthy.

Toue is probably gay but in the same way Jeffrey D@hmer was gay so he doesn’t count.

Having come from an unpleasant childhood, Clover climbed up Mount Ebott when they were eight years old while on a self-given mission to find their friends who had fallen down. They had a fascination with Wild Western and growing up around the culture, having a Cowboy aesthetic, though this is most easily seen in their accent and style. At the end of their journey, Clover was adopted by Starlo, and lived with the rest of the Feisty Five, being the only Human with a permanent residence in the Underground since Chara’s death, not that the other monsters were aware of this.

  They worked as the deputy of the Wild East after having stumbled into the Dune’s by accident. Having a unique ability to remember past RESETs, Clover eventually couldn’t take watching their friends, family, and those of other monsters get torn apart again and again. Eventually leading Clover down a path of GENOCIDE themselves.

  At first, Clover eventually came to the realization that they couldn’t beat Frisk if they weren’t DETERMINED enough, so they injected themselves with liquid DETERMINATION. When that didn’t work, they started killing monsters to try and SPARE them from Frisk’s wrath. At first, this was just the monsters in Frisk’s path, but eventually Clover began to believe that wasn’t enough, and began to murder every Monster in the Underground. Believing that, what they were doing was an act of MERCY by not letting them get killed by Frisk, and bringing JUSTICE to those that had already fallen.

  After having finally beaten Frisk, Clover was the most DETERMINED being in the Underground. Despite this, Clover refused to RESET, realizing that if they did, they would lose the ability, and Frisk would come back and just do it all over again, trapping them in an endless cycle of death. They also realized what they had done, and believed themselves to be no better than the person they were trying to kill, and therefore kept themselves in isolation. (mostly, they do still talk to Flowey)

  During the time after Frisk’s death, Clover has dove head first into researching science, and ways to try and bring the other fallen humans back to life, along with learning at least some basic repair skills, to try and keep the robots in the Steamworks, up and running. The Fallen Human’s SOULs have also been moved from Asgore’s castle, to the Feisty Five’s house, where Clover still lives.

  This version of Clover is cold and cynical, often serious and doesn’t talk very much. Though, they can still be kind and caring when they want to be. They wear Starlo’s poncho as a way to keep their adoptive father close in some way. They are also in desperate need of a hairbrush, as their hair is an absolute mess.

Okay, if you were asked who are in Merlin BBC & Voltron that you can see based on canon that are gay/bi/pan/demi, which characters are they? Why?

What a fun ask I'm totally not doing to procastinate on cooking... XD

BBC Merlin

Arthur Pendragon is, in my head, demiromantic and bisexual... It sort of depends on the circumstances/episode. Arthur needs a very long time to really feel connections with people and only starts to consider love after he really gets to know them, hence his constant search for true love in the show. With Merlin I'm not entirely sure if he was attracted to him instantly, strangely enough feeling a connection from the moment they met, or if it takes him till the end of the series when Merlin confesses his magic and finally shows his true self to realise the depth of his feelings.

Merlin is, well... Bi Bi Bi. A disaster bi in fact. With a preference for sweaty men in metal boxes, he's not very peculiar. However, Merlin is a one person hyperfixation kind of guy. Most people are convinced that Merlin's gay.

Gwen: I feel like most people in BBC Merlin are bi and Gwen is no exception. Like Merlin, she prefers the hero type in metal uniforms. But she also had a thing for Morgana in the beginning.

Morgana: lesbian. I have never seen a woman so disinterested in men, I'm not surprised that they casted Katie McGrath in supergirl as supergirls love interest. I might settle for homoromantic and asexual. But definitly in love with Gwen in the very beginning.

Sir Leon, my beloved, the immortal, the one and only, the eternal suffering aro/ace. I don't have to explain this one. The only counter moment is the Lamia episode where Leon suddenly develops interest in women out of nowhere. My personal take is that anyone could be fallen under a Lamia's spell, this one just had a taste for men (and male presenting).

Sir Elian: once upon a time I clocked them as nonbinary and sadly that's as far as I thought into this character. Pretty sure he's aromantic. He/they pronouns. I dunno, I don't think Elian would conform to anything if given a choice. Aromantic too, I think. Like Leon, there is no interest there, but he does play around with Percival and Gwaine quite often, so I'd take that as allosexual.

I am excluding Gwaine because I think canon Gwaine is written as a straight oblivious fuckboy. Albeit a kind one XD fanon Gwaine is often poly/ pan... Or into apples. Lmao XD and I'm not sure about Percival because the man has a dead wife and kids.

Voltron

Keith: with his lack of interest in women, he can only be gay. That man looks at no one quite the same as he looks at Lance. what the hell was the whole bonding thing if not a hint for post canon klance? Sorry, not sorry XD rivals to best friends to lovers.

Lance: *bi bo bi* bisexual lighting Lance. Doesn't matter if you prefer klance or shallura, this man is a walking bi flag. I don't know what you mean by proof, just look at this wiggly boy with the fingerguns. He can't even sit straight! Can't do math either. He's perfect!

Shiro: probably the only character in my entire history of shipping that I would unqueer without feeling bad about it. I know he's gay, I just don't really see it in the writing. Of course there aren't always clear signs that someone is gay which is why this is good rep actually (+he's married), but you asked me for proof in the show and all I see is that this man is a dad. That's his gender and his orientation and that's all I really need to know.

Pidge: aro/ace because I love my aroaces and this child loves robots and robots only. Also nonbinary/genderqueer. Pronouns: fuck/off XD

She’s a newcomer to a whole lotta established lore so quite a bit of that is mixed in, but I’ll try to contextualize it easier. Character Description time (The events described go up to Season 4 of LMK) :D

Tiě hú

Alias: The Iron/Gunpowder Fox

Gender: Nonbinary She/her

Age: 2000+ (Young adult mentally/physically)

Species: Hulijing (Awakened Gunpowder Weapon)

Background: Tie Hu is no typical fox demon - she was once an ancient experimental gunpowder device crafted by humans, and through means of cultivation, eventually came to life. This might have something to do with her human makers being unknowingly being aided by hulijings, stealing her away for their own selfish purposes just as she gained awareness. Her time with the hulijings was throughly unpleasant, eventually getting discarded once she proved to be more trouble than she was worth. As technically a “thing” unable to remember the reason for her existence, Tie Hu was aimless until she encountered the leader of an isolated clan of demons, a gibbon named Bai Meimao, who took the young fox girl into her fold and showed her true compassion. Tie Hu would become a faithful servant to the Butterfly clan, utterly devoted to her lady (and to a lesser extent, Bai Meimao’s elder sibling Changbiyuan) like a loyal daughter. She would use her nature to hone herself into a deadly assassin skilled with gunpowder weaponry -- still taking it as her purpose to be solely a living weapon rather than an actual living being. But when a powerful bone demon came and destroyed her adoptive family, including Bai Meimao, Tie Hu was unable to fulfill it and was burnt out, forced into a lifeless state for over a millennia.

During this time, Changbiyuan had escaped Lady Bone Demon as a spirit, and eventually garnered enough strength and help to return to the mortal realm and avenge their family -- but was also left believing they were the only survivor of their clan. Meanwhile, Tie Hu finally woke up thanks to the sheer force of a powerful fire somewhere in the world...and unlike Changbiyuan, she’s not ready to let go yet. She wants her family back, and rumours of a scroll containing memories of the world might be her best shot.

Soooo...she's basically an ancient version of a robot. A very explosive tempered, socially withdrawn and immature robot who wields guns, is made of iron, heat and gunpowder and hates the demons she’s modelled after, but yeah. I’ve already got a lot for her already, hope you guys are intrigued:D

despite all my reservations about the show and the very obvious "this is an adaptation, a kind of poorly made one, and these are not the characters i know and love from the books," i AM enjoying the show and i'm excited for the next episode to drop!

so far i think my biggest issues are:

a) mensah being so... openly emotionally vulnerable all the time. she seems kind of constantly frazzled and that's just not how i pictured her at all. i do love her casting, just not how she's played. (also i pictured her with glasses--)

b) pretty much everything about ratthi. he's really annoying and i don't like the "quirky kind of dumb English Humour" thing that's going on with him - it's the same reason i didn't like steven in moon knight very much, except he grew on me because the acting was um. better. ksjndfnjksdf. plus what the fuck was the thing about naming a kid all about??? i don't really agree with some of the criticisms i've seen that they're making fun of polyamory or whatever, but i do feel that it's written pretty awkwardly.

c) some of the acting/writing for the crew just feels a bit... i don't know how to word this, exactly. but it feels very kind of... forced? like whenever they're doing their hippie shit or interacting with each other most of them come off like very young, amateur actors in a way i don't like. not all of them though. i think this goes along with another point i was going to make about how some of the "humour" is a bit... eh. like all the rise and fall of sanctuary moon stuff just feels super cringe and i get that that's kind of the point but ughhhhhhhhHHH you know? sdkfjnsdjkf

d) the visuals suck LOL but nothing was going to match up to my imagination so it's whatever. they don't have murderbot rely on its cameras nearly as much as i'd like, but i get that with a film adaptation there's only so much you can do there.

e) episode length. enough said.

and now for some things i originally disliked but eventually came around on:

a) murderbot itself. it's not canon murderbot to me, but the actor did grow on me despite my initial dislike of a) his face, b) his voice, and c) his constant emoting early on (he stops doing it later and murderbot starts seeming a lot more like itself). if this wasn't supposed to be murderbot and was instead just a different secunit or, hell, a non-adaptation tv show about robots, i'd really like the actor in this role. i mean i do anyway but you know what i mean. whatever.

b) gurathin. i still have some issues with him like his weird thing for mensah (really playing into the creepy loner autistic-coded guy stereotype here, ugh) and like the rest of the characters, he doesn't feel like gurathin - but i do like him. especially his interactions with lebebe.

c) pin-lee! i really like them. i think it's cool that they're nonbinary and played by a nonbinary actor, but also they're just kind of funny. again, not book pin-lee, not the same character at all, but i like them. tbh i like most of the crew even though they're not The Characters to me.
