Making art of Wei Wuxian is not my favorite thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love him to pieces and if he were real I’d probably end up in a 10 hour long discussion about the intricacies of cultivation. Also he is legitimately one of my favorite characters of all time and 100% I want to make art of him. But it is SO HARD to make them recognizable with just pencil. I always look at my sketches like “who tf is this twink? Hua cheng? Mu Qing? Someone completely unrelated?? Some oc my brain gave life to without my consent??? I see no Wei wuxian here!” But then if I add even just the red ribbon it’s immediately recognizable. It’s like when in Phineas and Ferb Dr. Doofinshmirtz only recognizes Perry the Platypus with his fedora. It’s so stupid.

Is it weird for me to be worried about my latest hyperfixation/plot bunny?

Below the cut is an explaination.

Tl/dr: added a bunch of like pagan themes and my version of “western fantasy” and found family tropes and species bending to a Xianxia/Wuxia setting (MXTX triple fusion) and I’m worried people will find it problematic if I post it. All pagan stuff is also “weird” bc it’s my flavor of it and I add more bits when I write it for stories of any kind. Main guy mostly just acts as a dad and is always running around trying to avoid people who he doesn’t want to find him unless he needs to trade for certain things like fabric because everyone is suspicious of him and it gets worse when they learn he’s an “alternate type of cultivator” and actually foreign and stuff. Like, it’s HIM being assimilated and not the other way around even if he’s sharing like a couple crafts, what he grew up speaking and writing, some recipes and stuff you’d learn if you lived in the wilds and had an arborist-holistic doctor-type for a mom figure.

Edits: added more clarification, main concern is white savior and I’m doing as much as I can to avoid that bullshit but I’m still worried as fuck bc I don’t want to seem like an asshole or something.

Like, I tend to have phases for fandoms, sure, but I also have them for tropes/concepts I like to write.

So I’m in a MXTX/Danmei phase fandom wise, and I’m in a general “fix it before the shit can go south” phase, and now I’m layering on my paganism-in-everything phase once again and writing a “what if all MXTX novels are in the same world… and a very powerful druid-witch dude happens to stumble onto our favorite red-and-black boys and a (good number of) handful(s) of other fucked over kids… which activates his horrible, horrible dad instincts and he adopts every last one of them” thing.

It’s 3 chapters deep, has a bunch of random shit ranging from discussion of languages and their quirks, basic Irish lessons (bc teaching myself off and on for YEARS), pagan/wiccan shit (obviously), handicrafts, hunting, practical foraging and ultra-sustainable farming practices, how major religions stamp out smaller or “bad” ones…

It’s basically just what I write for my Og stuff but I’m not holding back at ALL and it’s MXTX. Main plot is MDZS but Binghe and Hua Cheng are the frustratingly ridiculous older brothers of the family that the dad-character is just sick and tired of listening to them pine and suspicious as hell about who they’re going after despite not wanting to even THINK about his boys being in romantic relationships with ANYONE.

Just… goofy happy but dramatic family shit and cute kids and teens bringing a shitload of foreign mythology and pagan culture and a hefty dash of my personal style of fantasy into the Xianxia/Wuxia world.

I just worry I might get flack for like destroying the culture and setting with… what I write about for the most part outside of like the vast majority of my fics.

Am I going nuts, or is this okay?

Edit for a clarification: I’m worried, as someone mentioned, of a white savior trope problem. I’m mainly trying to get out of that corner I seem to have driven myself in, but generally how it’s going so far is:

- cultivators are suspicious of foreign guy who’s apparently not just some weird merchant, this causes issues

- OC is more just trying to keep the kids he ends up running around with from doing stupid shit like pulling stupid stunts to be with people they declare their soul mates after like one brief interaction (and he fails a lot and gets all “I’m not mad I’m just disappointed. Now eat your dinner and go take a bath, you stink and are too thin again.”)

- major difference for whole setting is just some one off things here and there being introduced and made more common in a warped timeline (mostly just like fiber arts and some recipes and minor things that aren’t as obvious right off the bat like how ginkgo trees are in the same family as poison Ivy and stuff like that)

Generally the entire fic is just very done dad yelling at stupid teenagers for being stupid teenagers and having to dodge people who don’t like the weird wild man and judging him for not being able to read Chinese well and stuff.

Yet I’m still worried about white savior issues… because they’re an issue.

Actually, the first character I thought of as aroace was Akio from "Yuki no Shita no Qualia". It was one of the first mangas that made me go "Yea, that's how I feel too" in a way.

These are of course a mix of the vibes they give me, dialogues/character info and my own perception of them. Mostly how I related to some of the aro or aroace aspects I see in them, really. I could expand on any of them if anyone is curious, I guess xD Also, I'm most definitely forgetting some, but oh well.

10. What frustrates you the most about amatonormativity?

The fact that everybody is supposed to only be truly happy if they have a "typical romantic relationship". I know it's the most generic thing but it's also what bothers me the most. The media bombards us with countless romance when it makes no sense at all. Like, a serious dramatic story being ruined by the worst most dumb romance thrown in the middle, really badly written as well. Or when all the side characters must have a romantic pairing too even if they're not even developed just cause they can't end up alone!

Idk, just so annoying... people can be happy alone!! Or have qpr that make them happy. Typical romance relationships aren't the only option >:C

As an extra to this, I do like shipping and romance plots. But mooost often they're SO BADLY written, or such toxic/unhealthy tropes, I don't often like the main pairings or the main fandom ships alfhlask

15. What are some things you associate with arospec identities? i.e. frogs, arrows, white rings, anything the color green, etc.

Tbh, I haven't delved into the aro community as much as the ace one, so I barely know of their symbols aside from the flag aslkhfaksl So I couldn't say anything else. But I'm happy frogs and green are part of it, because I love them 😌💕

i've had the idea forever for a whole multichapter dr who AU of hualian (just consider it an AU where hualian travel together across the galaxy visiting different planets). xl is the doctor, a time god who is very old and very kind and the very last of his kind, while san lang is a mysterious "human" boy who becomes his companion but is actually a ghost king who also can travel through space and time. 800 years ago they met as teens when xl broke the rules of time to save young hc and young hc fell for xl and even promised to build a city of flowers (aka a hua cheng) for them.

i even had an oc of a lesbian supreme ghost who was once hc's protege and wanted to learn how to become strong to avenge her beloved. and xl's past companions included ban yue and they have a conversation with the doctor who quote "I'm not a hero. i really am just mad man in a box" but rewritten to parallel the scene where xl told hc in the canon novel "san lang, I'm not the person you think i am". and xl saves a dying star whale and hc tells him the dr who quote "if you were that old and that kind, you couldn't just stand there and watch children cry. sound familiar?" and looks at xl like a time god while xl looks away bc xl believes he's just an old fool who caused the fall of his kingdom and deserves to repent forever. and i wrote scenes of hc flirting with xl and hc telling xl about the story behind a constellation in the sky that immortalizes a boy who became a demon king to protect and avenge his beloved and xl doesn't realize it's about hc and him and...

i have pages and pages of plot and scene ideas for this au, i've only posted the first chapter so far bc multichapters take me a lot of energy to write and finalize the details of and fantasy/action are especially hard for me to write, idk how to write all the action scenes 😭 some day when im done with my other wips I'll slowly figure it out

Alright, I’m going to attempt to be more Active on here. To that end, I am taking prompts! They probably won’t be very long, because my attention span is lacking these days, but you might ping my wordinator and get something more, who knows!

FIC: I Pick You: Chapter 1/5 (MLB/Lukanette)

Summary: Marinette had no idea how special the Jagged Stone pick actually was when Luka first gave it to her. Neither had any idea how special it would come to be to both of them.

Author’s Notes/Warnings: So there’s a couple things at fault here, but it all traces back to Quick sharing a prompt about this couple who got together because of a dollar bill (she let him borrow it, he kept trying to give it back, and she wouldn’t take it; eventually he used it to ask her out then later propose). Which got me thinking about the Jagged Stone pick, which led to OC-tober/Dingtober 12 (“Drip”), which needed to be a whole ass fic instead of the rushed shenanigans it was. Which is how we all got here. xD (Also for this particular chapter I pull a little from 10/8 (“Festival”) for background, so some parts might seem familiar if you followed my OC-tober ficlets last October.)

Chapter One: Picking You

The annual Music Festival in Paris was a pretty big deal, and this year was promising to be bigger than most. All of Paris was going out for it: even big names like Jagged Stone, XY, and Clara Nightingale were putting on shows at venues across the city. Tons of smaller venues were also booked, and even private homes were turning into concert halls for the occasion. The Liberty, home of one Anarka Couffaine, was no exception.

The houseboat was no stranger to music. Anarka had spent quite a few years when she was younger touring and recording, and while she now preferred to spend her days teaching and working odd jobs around the city her music had done well enough for the royalties to keep them afloat, even eighteen years later. The boat was littered with musical instruments, sound equipment, stage gear…among plenty of regular old litter, too, as Anarka preferred the lived-in look. It never surprised anyone when, every year without fail, the Music Festival found the Liberty blaring music from professional-grade speakers towering over the foredeck – when one of its occupants was home to blast said music and not playing one of the numerous gigs around the city instead. Music was in Anarka’s blood, and so it was in her children’s blood, and so it was in their home.

(…it was also in their father’s blood, though they had never known him and all she’d ever said regarding the matter was that he was a useless lagabout from the road. That was fine, and they had never needed him, anyway. Anarka Couffaine was more than enough parent for her bairns.)
