A snippet from Golden
Tumblr media
“Nice day isn't it, Goldie?” Sirius smirked as he caught up to Marigold—who had just stepped out of Potions class—much to the redhead's annoyance.
“Can you stop calling me that?” Marigold snapped, glaring daggers at him “I'm not even blonde!”
Sirius chuckled and matched her pace, undeterred by her irritation. “But you're just as precious as gold, Goldie,” he teased, earning himself a disdainful glare.
“Just because we're in the same house doesn't mean you have to bother me all the time, Black,” Marigold hissed, walking ahead of Sirius
“Come on, don't be so grouchy,” Sirius said, flashing her a playful grin as he trailed behind her. “Hogsmeade, you and me?”
“For the millionth time, no!” Marigold retorted, rolling her eyes. “I have better things to do than spend time with you, Black.”
Sirius just laughed, not in the least affected by Marigold's rejection. “You know you can't avoid me forever, Goldie,”
Marigold rolled her eyes, flicking long waves of fiery red hair over her shoulder. “Watch me.”
As Marigold stormed off, Sirius couldn't help but smile. He enjoyed seeing her annoyed, the way her nose scrunched and the way she'd bite the inside of her lower lip was adorable.
Sirius sighed as Marigold's form slowly faded from view as she stomped her way towards the Gryffindor tower. “I'm going to marry that girl.”

Crushed up stardust — Sirius Black x reader
The mirror’s lights give you a headache. It’s not what you need right then, before you go onto a stage to perform for thousands of people live. The makeup artist applies thick foundation onto your skin that you just know is going to all melt off as soon as you start singing. This is a midsummer’s night, the heat from the earth has combined with the heat of the crowd to create a baking atmosphere on stage, where you’ll be prancing around in leather — what does he think he’s doing doing? The aggressive dabbing at your face with a brush that makes you sneeze only worsens the headache. The stress, the headache, and the hangover all fuse into a wave of irritation that makes you snap at the artist. “Can you stop please? This shit is going to melt off as soon as I walk out there.”
“Uh- I- erm,” he stutters, brown eyes going wide as his skin blushes.
“Christ, just give me the bloody brush. I can do this myself,” you groan, lifting a hand to your temple. The headache only grows worse.
“Are you sure? I can make it less heavy if that’s the issue—” he holds onto the brush with a tight fist, which somehow worsens your bad mood.
“Yes, I’m sure. Do I not look sure? No? How about if I told you to piss off. Would that send a sure enough message?”
He gapes at you, blanching before scurrying out of the dress room. As soon as the door shuts behind him, guilt rises in your chest. You had thought you’d be one of those people that didn’t let fame change you. Turns out, you were wrong. You’d always had a short temper, but now that you were so used to people attempting to either exploit you or giving you whatever you wanted, it was difficult not to let that anger control you.
A frustrated sigh left your chest and you glared at your reflection in the mirror. The foundation clung to your skin, erasing all the natural flaws and textures of your face. In a few clean swoops, you grab at a wipe and manage to erase most of it. Just then, the door slides open and Sirius Black swaggers in.
You watch him in the mirror guardedly, headache still pulsing behind your eyes. His dark curls were shiny and fluid, drifting around his neck, and his silver eyes had been enhanced by a thin layer of kohl. He grins at you, teasing, “So. I hear someone’s moody.”
“Fuck off, Black.”
“Ah, music to my ears. I love it when you talk dirty to me, Stardust.”
A small, involuntary laugh leaves you in a quick huff of air. You immediately school your features back into a state of nonchalance but it’s too late. He smiles from ear to ear and drops himself into the abandoned wheely-chair by your side, spinning once around it before turning back to watch your profile.
“Who told you I was moody?” You ask, wondering why they’d sent him here to remedy that. It’s not like Sirius is a great calming presence in your life.
“Oh no one,” he replies, swivelling so that his chin rests on the top of his chair, legs either side it, and face much closer to yours. “I just saw someone running for the hills out of here and knew it had to be you.”
You concentrate on doing your makeup. Moisturiser on your skin, with only a little concealer, set with powder so it wouldn’t disappear. The shadows under your cheekbones grow a little deeper as you swipe the brush over them and your temples.
“So what did the makeup artist do this time? Tell you that the amount of glitter you use is unsustainable?”
“You don’t like my glitter?”
Sirius looks aghast. “I love your glitter!”
“Good.” You grab your favourite eyeshadow palette and layer on your base shade. You opt for a dark brown and a black liner to make the smokey eye, smudging it out. Then it’s time to add the shine, your fingers itch for the silver glitter. Before you can take it, though, someone else does.
“Here. Let me.”
You look uncertainly at Sirius, who’s confidently opening the palette. He smiles at takes your chin with his thumb and forefinger, pulling you closer, so that your face is inches from his. A blush begins to spread over your cheeks. He dabs his finger in the glitter. “Close your eyes.”
You do obediently, if only so you can avoid staring at him anymore. He’s possibly the most beautiful person in the world, and right now, staring into his kohl darkened eyes is a dangerous road to follow. You know where it leads. His breath ghosts over your cheekbone and your ear, tickling the skin there, as gentle fingers apply the paste carefully onto your eyelids.
A few minutes of torture — you sit there only too conscious of the sweet aching between your legs, made only worse by the knee he has slid between them to get a closer look at your face— pass before finally you are released. “There,” he exhales, pulling away from you by only a few centimetres. “All done.” You miss the closeness immediately, but open your eyes anyway, glancing in the mirror. The eyeshadow is far better than if you’d have done it, but you refuse to admit that to him, and so just mutter a thanks instead, looking back at him.
“No worries. Like I said, I love your glitter. It’s just like you,” he answers, getting up and heading towards the door.
“How come?” You ask, intrigued by the parallel.
“It’s crushed up stardust,” he explains with a laugh. “Now come on! We’ve got a show to get to.”
The door shuts behind him and you stare at it for a few seconds, before getting up and following. Miraculously, your headache has disappeared.

[A/N] This is mostly just something I wrote because I was bored! I know there wasn’t that much smut or fluff in it, but I’d be willing to write out a part two if people wanted! Let me know ig?

The Marauders come back to Hogwarts to begin their sixth year there, and many things will change for them during these coming months. Outside the safety of their school, the world is growing darker. Inside the Castle, they'll find both new friends and enemies.
Pairings : Sirius Black x Original Female Character + Jily
Warnings : graphic depictions of violence and torture, adult themes, mentions of child abuse. Several violent scenes and themes will be used in this story, be aware of this if you decide to read the fic.
This is the rewriting of my first fic ever! From 8 years ago, when my English was very poor and I had no skills in storytelling whatsoever... This fic was posted on FFC.net at the time, but I would not recommend you to read it there as a) my English was terrible and b) there will be major changes in the plot so... please, just read this version. I'll also post it on AO3. This fic was planned as a trilogy back in the days, I'll try to actually make it into the three books I had originally planned, and for which this would be the first part!
On-going series :
-Prologue + Chapter 1 : A Brand-new Year
-Chapter 2: Kiss and Resolutions
-Chapter 3: Confessions
-Chapter 4: Broomsticks
-Chapter 5: The First Prank of the Year

“ice cream and trouble”
written for day 21 of august for @wolfstarmicrofic with the prompt “ice cream”
555 words!
“Dada, dada! I want ice cream!” Estella yells, as soon as she hears the ice cream truck. “Ice cream, ice cream!” She chants as she runs to the ice cream truck.
Sirius picked her up before she could get too far and held her in his arms. “Ok, my little star, you can have some ice cream.” Sirius said, kissing her on the forehead. “But you can’t tell papa alright? You know he doesn’t like you having all these sweets.” He says, booping her on her nose.
“ ‘K dada,” Estella says, smiling, showing off her two missing front teeth.
Sirius smiles too and says, “Let’s go get that ice cream.”
Once they get to the ice cream truck, Stella picks out a popsicle, one of the bomb pops. And Sirius said that he wouldn’t get any, but he ends up getting one of those cookie ice cream sandwiches.
They walk back to their flat and eat their ice cream on the way, and Stellas ends up half on the sidewalk and half on her face. Sirius munches down on his so when they get inside he can quickly clean her up before Rem gets home.
“Come on,” he says as they step inside their flat, “let’s get you cleaned up.”
Sirius sits Estella up on the counter and grabs a paper towel and lightly wets it to wipe her mouth off. Just as he went to wipe her mouth though, he heard the front door opening.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Remus said, smiling as he set down his bags, moving to kiss Sirius hello.
“Dada said I could I have some!” Estella exclaimed pointing at her dada before Sirius could come up with an excuse. “Andddd,” she added, drawing out the ‘d’, “to not tell you.”
Remus scoffs in mock offense. “How dare you.” Stella giggles.
“Ooo papas in troubleeee.” Stella sings.
“Hey! I thought we were on the same team!” Sirius exclaims, getting ratted out by his almost 8 year old daughter.
“Papas not in trouble, stella.” Remus says calmly. “Papas just gonna get what he deserves later.” Remus lays his hand on Sirius’s shoulder.
Sirius raises his eyebrows, looking at Remus, who has a smug look on his face. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Siri!”
“What?!” He utters, then realization dawns on him. “Oh.”
“I told you to stop cursing in front of Stells,” Remus dotes, “Now you’re in actual trouble.”
“Sorry Stella, but we don’t say those words ok? Dada wasn’t supposed to say those words and now he’s in trouble,” he glares at Remus as he moves to pick Stella up off the counter, and he washes their hands. “Say you won’t say those bad words for me, Estella.”
“I won’t say bad words Daddy,” She says totally serious.
“Thank you.” Sirius said, and he turned the tap off and dried off her and his hands.
Remus moved further into the kitchen and opened up the fridge, looking at what there is for dinner.
“Alfredo sound good?” It was pretty much all they had, Remus was going to have to make a grocery run tomorrow.
“I’m not really hungry papa.” Stella says, frowning. At the mention of those words, Remus sends Sirius a glare, sending a message of “I told you,” with his eyes.
wolfstar dads are so special to me you don’t understandd 😩
a.n.: we’re gonna ignore the completely unoriginal title, i couldn’t think of anything 😭

The Marauders & The Metamorphic Witch (Part 11)
Tumblr media
Words: 2.6K Warning: A bit of sibling fluff - mentions of Voldemort and the First Wizarding War build-up Pronouns Used: She/Her - (Y/N) also used
"Are you serious about this?" asked (Y/N), turning into the grand stairwell with Marlene. The pair walked toward the Great Hall for breakfast, suspecting things would be just as crazy as normal. "It could be dangerous," she added, concern flooding her otherwise smooth voice. Nonetheless, a small smile appeared on her lips, even more so to see Marlene understood where her concern was coming from.
"I'm sure, like the boys, I trust you with the potion," stated Marlene, brushing some of her blonde locks over her shoulder and straightening out her black robes. Her grin remained unmoved as she began to think about the conversations she'd had with each of the boys and (Y/N) how it all just made her more determined to become an Animagus, although for her own reasons. She knew it was dangerous and probably against the school rules and against the ministry if they didn't register their ability, but it was still something she wanted to do. The danger meant nothing; all she wanted was to understand her best friend more and ensure (Y/N) wasn't alone when she struggled to control her unique abilities.
"I wonder if Lily handled the drama with Isolde and Allegra," spoke Remus from behind, Sirius next to him as the pair jogged to catch up with the girls. Sirius could only roll his eyes, clearly recalling the nightmare Christmas break had been, the constant fighting and never-ending yelling between the two. Allegra's insults always follow her favorite three words of I hate you.
"Speaking of Lily Flower, reckon she'd go with me to Valentine's dance?" asked James, walking with Peter just in front of the girls. The small group walked down the last few steps, the large golden doors within view.
"I'd rather kiss the giant squid," replied Lily, stepping through the doors leading to the chilly courtyard, the drizzly rain dampening her fiery hair. Isolde was on one side, with Severus on the other. The dark-haired Slytherin boy seemingly ignored the four to torment him. James's intended insult had been caught in his throat the moment Remus harshly jabbed his shoulder, whereas Sirius had been met with a whack across the back of the head by (Y/N). Peter, too, had been stopped by the warning glare Marlene had sent his way, thrust, stamping out any confidence he might have gained to start something on his own.
"How do you do that so easily?" asked Isolde, a chuckle escaping her lips as James rubbed his shoulder and glared at Remus, who was fairly content ignoring it. Sirius had let out a loud ow before reaching for his head. He'd been met with (Y/N) grinning innocently at him with mischief alight in her eyes. He'd only managed to stick his tongue out before a grin pulled the corner of his lips.
"Hey, Snivellus," called Allegra, as if she was the coolest girl in the castle; a wickedly sweet smile graced her lips as if she was unaware the name was meant as a way to torment the Slytherin boy in question. She'd heard James and Sirius refer to him as such and mindlessly followed along.
"That's not my name," harshly replied Severus, not bothering to spare the brunette muggle-born a glance. Instead, his cold glare was aimed at the three that took almost all opportunity given to torment him.
"How about teaching me some of those spells you've been working on?" commented Allegra as if ignoring the previous statement entirely. Her smile turned victorious upon gaining his attention, his dark eyes filled with a mixture of anger and surprise that someone knew what he was doing, or at least someone he deemed an enemy knew what he was doing. "Maybe you could give me some advice," she pestered, almost as if she was blind to the obvious.
"Pay attention in class," bluntly stated Severus before walking off into the Great Hall, only saying a quiet goodbye to Lily and Isolde before doing so. He seemed oblivious to the chuckles left in his wake and the almost compliment James sent his way. Nice on Snivellus.
"Er ... Rude," called Allegra, an offended expression painting on her features as she stomped off into the hall, wanting to get a seat and enjoy the food before all her favorites were gone. Upon entering, she was met with the same people mingling in groups, another reminder of how lonely and invisible she truly felt. However, she painted a smile and acted as if she was a queen.
"Allegra," called a girl. Ulrica was her name. She was another Gryffindor Student, bright, funny, and smart, or so Allegra thought. She was in the same year and had mainly kept to herself for the most part, at least until the train trip back to Hogwarts after the Christmas Holidays. There were rumors she had snapped and displayed a mean streak every since. As did her best friends Georgie and Samantha. "Come join us," said Ulrica, waving the Smith twins over with a gracious smile, even friendly. Actions that were foreign to her and the two closest to her.
Without a second thought, Allegra wondered over, a smile of her own; she dared not get her hopes up, especially upon noticing the two third-year Slytherin girls also there. Raya Snyde and Jessica Rosier. Like most Slytherins, they had a knack for the Dark Arts and an admiration for the Dark Lord, slowly growing in power and becoming a greater threat every passing day.
"That doesn't strike up confidence for the better," quietly spoke Lily upon entering the hall with Isolde, Marlene, and (Y/N), the Marauders following along behind, wrapped up in their own conversation. With a hand clasping the back of his head, Sirius still appeared to nurse a growing headache. "Do tell Snap what's going between you and Sirius," laughed Lily, calling (Y/N) by the nickname Hunter had called her on so many occasions.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Lil," replied (Y/N), playing innocent even if she did know where it was going. In recent weeks, she'd begun to take notice of how people whispered whenever she walked by, even how the whispering increased if she was around the Marauders, specifically Sirius. Slowly, she began to realize the playful flirting had gained attention, as had their friendship as it slowly blossomed. Similarly, Marlene had taken more notice when it became common knowledge that she and Remus could be found together during study time. They often worked together when professors insisted on a girl-boy partnership, as (Y/N) and Sirius did.
"Sirius, you toerag," called Lily, her accusing eyes finding the fluffy-haired boy quickly. The playful insult fell from her lips with a serious undertone to it. "What have you done to corrupt my precious Snap?" she asked, Isolde chuckling from beside her as Marlene tried her hardest to contain her growing amusement. Even more so when the wizard looked confused and caught off guard.
"Told you it would stick," spoke Hunter as he walked by, bending over to wrap his younger sister in a sibling hug filled with affection. A bright, carefree smile on his lips as he did so. "Love ya, little Snap," he called as he left, stopping a short distance away so he could hear her normal sweet reply.
"I think I might try that with Mason," replied Marlene, with a smile of her own. "It's adorable how fearless you both are."
"When does that start happening to our Isolde?" asked (Y/N), seeing how Isolde paled at the thought of such a public display of affection, especially in a romantic way. "I'm just joking with you, Issy. Although I don't think I've seen Hunter this googly-eyed about anyone before," she laughed, even more so when Isolde rolled her eyes in a playful way and turned her attention to the playful argument going on between Sirius, Remus, and Lily regarding them corrupting her precious Snap and irreplaceable Mar.
"And you two call me the mom of the group," commented Marlene, chuckling as Peter tried to make himself as small as possible while eating his cereal, almost as if he was terrified Lily's attention would turn on him at any second, and he'd be forced to defend himself.
"I heard that, Mar," called Lily with a playful wink. "Think of me as your protective sister who's gonna kick some butt," she added as her attention returned to the two boys in question. Both of them shared a glance; James laughing in the background was soon brought to a halt when Lily threw a piece of screwed-up parchment at his head, hitting her target with victory and causing others to take notice of the interaction and chuckle.
"I kinda feel sorry for Hunter when he gets put through this," voiced (Y/N), knowing her brother was both brave and smart, but she doubted he could come up with something quick enough to defend against Lily and her protectiveness. However, he would likely call her adorable and compliment her on her chosen tactics. "Should I advise him to prepare?" she said with a smile.
"I promise I haven't corrupted the snappy dragon," softly spoke Sirius, holding his hands up as if to surrender. "If anything, I encourage the chaos already there," he added, quickly dodging when Lily threw her hand towards him in a swotting manner.
"Snappy Dragon?" questioned (Y/N), confusion rife in her voice as she tried to comprehend the nickname and decide whether she liked it. "That's a terrible combination, Seriously Strong," she replied, responding with a cheesy nickname. Causing even Peter to burst into a fit of laughter.
"If anything, Lil," spoke Remus, his voice calm despite the feeling of being interrogated and dreading the full moon fast approaching. " Black Snap brings the playfulness out of each other. She encourages him to be better, while he jokingly teases her to keep her out of trouble and vers her attention back to where it should be, especially in class. We all know how easily (Y/N) can get distracted," he added, speaking truths those who looked close enough could see. The map and the potion had provided a distraction, enough that (Y/N) wasn't turning the castle into a nightmare of pranks.
"As for the other pair. We all know it would be Mar corrupting our innocent Remmy," called Isolde, laughing at the unimpressed look Marlene sent in her direction, and the quizzical look Remus had painted on his own features as he questioned when he'd branded so innocent.
"Remus. Innocent? Are you sure you know him?" called James.
"Compared to the rest of you, he's innocent," replied Lily before settling down at the table between Peter and Isolde, wasting little time in reaching for the toast and her favorite spread. The conversation soon turned to the lessons that day. Defense Against The Dark Arts, Potions, Transfigurations, Spells, Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures. It was a busy day, with those who were a part of the Quidditch team also having practice after dinner that night. No doubt preparing for the last match of the season, Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff.
At the end of the long Hufflepuff Table near the golden doors, Allegra sat with Ulrica, Georgie, Samantha, Raya, and Jessica, smiling as she engaged in conversation, the feeling of belonging overwhelming her. All she had hoped for seemed to come true; she was building friendships with people with the same beliefs and idealism. They, too, wanted to be famous when they were older; they wanted to be known across the world just like her. Neither Ulrica nor Georgie was overly fond of her twin Isolde or the three girls she called friends.
Quickly, they had clued Allegra in on their plan; they were going to terrorize the scared Marauder. Peter. It would start out small enough, a spell here and there, in a similar way to how the prank war had begun between the Marauders and (Y/N) before it flourished into a friendship. But as time passed, they were going to get bolder and bolder. Their goal was to get him to be suspicious of everything, terrified to leave the tower even for classes and fun with friends.
"That won't work," spoke Allegra upon being clued in with the entire plan. "Peter is never alone, and it's almost impossible to get him on his own. He surrounds himself with more powerful friends for a reason," she added, displaying her power of observation and the little knowledge she had on the larger group of her stupid twin found herself a part of. "Exploit his lack of confidence, make it seem like it's better for him to be with you. If he thinks you'll protect him better than James, Sirius, and Remus, you'll be able to turn him against them and use him to get information to torment them. Maybe even about their secret plans," finished Allegra, providing helpful insight and quickly proving her value.
"Could help us gain information as a means of blackmail," spoke Samantha, a vicious intent ringing through her otherwise quiet voice, her eyes glimmering with malice at the thoughts of the wicked games.
"Tell me more about this Dark Lord," spoke Allegra, not caring if she came across as an idiot to her new friends. She was a muggle-born, after all; like many with no magic, she was obvious and blind to what happened in the magical world most of the time. To the point she hadn't even realized there was a growing threat and that war was already happening.
"Lord Voldemort," spoke Raya, her voice no louder than a whisper, as if to keep the conversation secret from those passing by. "He's not normally fond of Mudbloods, but I'm willing to bet he'd make an exception for one as like-minded as you," she added, using the term mudblood so casually that one wouldn't have immediately assumed it was an insult. "He's looking to recruit into his ranks. Death Eaters, his followers. Together, they aim to bring change to the wizarding community and bring the vision of Salazar Slytherin true. First Britain, then the world," she added as if the whole thing was the best thing since magic.
"The war by the Ministry. Of course, they don't agree with his vision. Dad says once the Order of the Phoenix is eliminated, the Ministry will fall, then our Wizarding World will be reformed for a better future," spoke Jessica, not hiding her intentions to join the ranks of the Death Eaters when she graduated from Hogwarts, just as her brother Evan also intended to do when he left school. "Most of the pure-blood families are supporters, with the exception of a few blood traitors," she mumbled, immediately thinking of Aleister Moody, The Wolffe family, and the Weasleys. A few members of the Black family also disagreed with the traditions of pure-blood ideals. Most notably Andromeda Tonks. Sirius was showing signs of it, too.
"Voldemort will win. The wizarding world needs him to survive. It's gotten weak," rambled Georgie, ignoring the fact her mother was a muggle who believed in magic, ignoring she was a half-blood. "Dad is a firm believer in Voldemort's vision," she added confidently, seemingly oblivious to her father breaking the traditions of his pure-blood family to marry a muggle. Seemingly forgetting she was the only one out of three to be gifted with magic like her father. Her two sisters were magicless squibs, taking after their mother and blending into the ordinary world. Their father had forbidden them from knowing the magical world.
"So how does one become a Death Eater?" asked Allegra, wanting nothing more than to be a part of a movement that would reform the magical world. Oblivious, it would be her own kind that the war was against and that of normal muggles blind to the magic surrounding them. All she cared about was being a part of something that shared her beliefs, something that would eventually change the world. Unaware Voldemort sort to be a greater threat than Gellert Grindelwald had been before.

Falling For James
My name is Holly Pettigrew. My big brother is Peter Pettigrew and he is a part of a group of pranksters called the Marauders. The Marauders are all in Gryffindor. I'm a Slytherin and so is Regulus Black whom is the little brother of Sirius Black, one of Peter's best friends.
I started dating Regulus during our fourth year and our brothers were in their sixth year. Now, it is during my fifth year. I'm in the Gryffindor common room with Peter. My feelings for Regulus are changing and maybe I am developing feelings for one of Peter's and Sirius's best friends. This best friend of theirs goes by James Potter.
Honestly thoughts of James clogs my brain. Peter speaks up and says, "Maybe, honey, you're falling for James." I yell, "NO!" Peter says, "Well... " I yell, "NO! I LOVE REGULUS! REGULUS IS MY BOYFRIEND, HE WILL ALWAYS BE MY BOYFRIEND! THAT'S IT!" FOREVER!" I walk off for a minute to get my feelings under control. I hear Regulus ask, "Holly wouldn't lie, right?" Peter quickly says, "No. Holly wouldn't lie." James and I stare at each other both feeling guilty because of a kiss we shared last week.

Here’s To Us
A/N: Here is a little fanfic I wrote including my character Regina Holdestone. I truly hope that you all enjoy it as it’s a quick little Drabble. I may write more soon, or even add some stories from Regina’s years before and after Hogwarts.
Warnings: Mentions of drinking. This is a Sirius x OFC
***********
The group was gathered around the table in the inn. They were all holding their glasses high.
“To making it through our final year, by the skin of our teeth!” James proudly exclaimed holding the glass of Pure Malt Whisky and the others gently clinked their own glasses against each other’s.
Lily lowered her Nettle Wine to her lips and smirked in James’s lap. “Speak for yourself.” She teased to the amusement of everyone at the table.
“Yes Potter, it’s quite odd that some of us barely passed their transfiguration exam, perhaps you’d like to explain why that is?” The blonde in Sirius’s lap named Regina questions sipping her own glass of wine.
“It was a bloody difficult exam and you know it, right Moony?” Sirius asked turning to his friend with a look that said ‘help us out will you,’ however Remus simply shook his head.
“Actually I got an O on my exam.” Remus said grinning placing his drink on the table. “As did Lily and Reggie. Perhaps if you two had spent a bit more time studying for that instead of horsing around you would have gotten better than an A.”
There was chuckling at the table as the two dark haired men in question simply looked away from those laughing at them.
“However it happened, we all graduated!” Reggie grinned and looked to Peter. “Why the sour face, Petes?” The woman asked placing a hand on Peter’s shoulder.
“It’s a bit scary isn’t it, everything going on lately, and now we’re out of Hogwarts. What if something happens to the lot of us?” Peter said in his timid way. He looked to all of his friends worrying for their and his own well-being.
“Now isn’t the time to worry about it, Wormtail, we’re celebrating tonight, we can worry about that all tomorrow, or next week if I’m really honest.” His arm did however wrap tighter around the woman in his lap.
“However it comes, Petes, we have celebrating to do and it’s time to loosen up. Tonight nothing can happen to us. We have just graduated and the world is at our fingertips.” Reggie squeezed Peter’s shoulder and gave him one of her reassuring smiles letting him know everything would be alright.
“Speaking of celebrating, where is Ralphie, Reggie? Wasn’t he supposed to join us for some fun tonight?” James asked while placing his empty glass on the table. The blonde rolled her eyes.
“He’s already gone off to Norway to visit my grandparents for the next two weeks. He took McKenna right after graduation in order to introduce her to Bestemor, the old witch is likely to have an aneurysm given her favorite grandchildren have decided to stay here and fight whatever’s coming.” Reggie looked at Sirius. “Best behavior when we go next week.”
“Have I anything other than best behavior?” The grey eyed man asked with a smirk.
“Pads has the most exemplary behavior I have ever seen from a man.” James said quick to have his best mates back.
“Enough of this talk of plans for the future, let’s just enjoy the time we are having right now, shall we?” Remus asked raising his hand to order another round of drinks.
“You read my mind, Moony.” James grinned and took out a pocket of galleons. “Let’s drink until we’re bent over the table, lads.”
There was a large cheer from the group just as their drinks levitated over everyone grabbing one and cheering.
“Here’s to us!” They all chanted as they sipped their drinks, unaware of the figure who stood outside the window watching them all enjoy themselves. The jealousy radiating off of the figure was immense, but couldn’t hold a candle to those who sat inside and their pure joyfulness.

Natalia Potter shuffles into her dorm. Her roommates were gathered on one bed.
"There you are, I was beginning to think you'd died or something," Lily Evans said sitting slightly up, against the pillows of her bed. "Nope, in one piece"
Natalia took in the sight in front of her. All sorts of candies and rappers were discarded on the bed, the other two girls almost half falling off it. "Nat you're just in time to hear the confession" Marlene Mckinnon snickered as she began opening a chocolate frog.
Lily groaned throwing her head into her hands. "Confession?" Natalia questioned. "There is no confession!" Lily's voice was muffled by her hands. "Oh yes there was! We all know it." Marlene teased.
Natalia shot a look as if to say 'what on earth are they on about' at the other girl, Mary Macdonald who as of now had stayed quiet. "Today Lily here has not been asked out once by your lovely brother." Natalia sat down on the corner of the bed, crossing her legs.
"So?" Picking up a Bertie Botts bean to eat. "So! So Lily missed him, confessing that, whether she knows it or not she likes him!" Marlene states rather dramatically
"UGH" Natalia almost jumps off the bed, face full of disgust. "Come on! As if you couldn't tell already Nat" Says Mary. "What? No, I got barf flavor" Natalia chokes out as she runs to the bathroom to spit out the vile jellybean. The girls laughter could be heard all the way at the dungeons.
Natalia eventually returns to the others, having moved on to another topic. "Remind me to never eat those things again and for the record, I think everyone and their dog can tell you two like each other lils" The other three girls stifle their laughter, and the redhead's hair began to match her face.
Eventually, the four girls separated from their cluster and went back to their designated beds. Deciding to settle fairly early, mostly to shut lily up about worrying about sleeping in.
The girls routines were messy at the beginning of their friendship, always fighting for the bathroom, accusing the others of misplacing a beauty product, arguing about moving furniture, and everything possible in between.
Now, years later they have their routine down to a t. Lily always uses the bathroom first, wanting to sleep or study early. Mary second, spending the most time in there. Marlene third, by the time Mary is finished Marlene is usually back from Quidditch practice. Finally, Natalia, goes late, being the youngest, she wasn't there the first year so it makes sense, plus her being a night owl she didn't mind.
As they settled down, turned all the lights off. Natalia couldn't help but twist and turn in her bed. Her thought of the day to come plagued her and the thought of having to sit through another study session with Amos the following day definitely didn't excite her.
Suddenly wide awake, all the sounds in the dorm began to irritate her. Soft snores from Lily are drowned out by the louder ones from Marlene. The flicker and rustling of Mary reading. Natalia suddenly itched for a walk and a smoke.
It wasn't so much the cigarette itself she was craving, no it was the company that came along with the late-night walks around her home street. She and Sirius were close, of course, he and James were inseparable. Yet when he was open about the hardships of his family and how he was actually academically smart but he didn't tell anyone, she couldn't help but wait for him to tell her more.
Over break, she grew an addition, not to the cigarettes but to the boy she was sharing them with. Natalia's eyes began to droop at the memories, becoming tired. She shuffled into her covers further and began to fall into a dreamless sleep.
Natalia woke up to being violently shaken, almost being thrown out of her bed.
"Wake up! Natalia! We're late, like really late!" Lily, the culprit of her violent morning yelled. "Relax, we've only missed the beginning of class, nothing important" Marlene shrugged fixing her tie. At that, Natalia shot out of bed moving so fast she almost got whiplash.
The girls began to run over to the bathroom space. In spite of it all, the four ran to their classes, Lily, Marlene and Mary were in the year above Natalia. Perks of having an uneven year (and having such a nice soon-to-be friend group who easily let her in), she got to share with them. It was either that or by herself and she'd much rather be with them.
The older girls ran to Potions class while Natalia ran to DADA. The subject wasn't her favourite one in the world. Natalia would much rather be in Care for Magical Creatures, hell even Potions where she has to sit next to Marlene's brother, Max who is only helpful if you need to blow up the cauldron.
Walking into the large dark classroom, Professor Hawks hardly noticed as she slipped into the crowd of students standing gathered in the corners and far walls of the classroom. Usually, she liked the fact that their Professor hated the clutter of desks, opting to have a more relaxed feel to the classroom but now she disliked the calming atmosphere, if it wasn't for the rush of adrenaline from running all the way there she was sure she would have fallen back asleep.
She easily found her good friend, Johnny, always sticking out with his bob of curls and obnoxious movements.
"What did I miss?" Natalia whispered as she tried getting a look at the front of the class. "Professor Hawks hasn't said yet, he's been very theatrical about it but no surprises there." He said with a grin.
Professor Hawks silenced the room. "Today class, we have an important assignment, this assignment is possibly the most important assignment for your O.W.L.S." He stood up from where he was slouched against his desk and walked into the center of the classroom, pulling out his wand. "Today class we are learning about Werewolves." A murmur of whispers swept over the student like a wave.
"Quiet, shall we begin," Professor Hawks said waving his wand and the shutters slammed against their frames. Another flick of his wrist started the projector. "Werewolves were once believed-" Natalia tuned him out, turning to Johnny who now sat on the ground watching the slideshow through the other students' ankles who were all standing around in their friend groups. Natalia slumped against the wall and plopped next to him on the floor.
"Rory's gonna hate this huh" Johnny whispered turning to face his friend. Natalia chuckled humorlessly "Oh yeah she'll love this"
Natalia couldn't help but also think of Remus. He'd already been through this last year but she wondered how he felt, maybe she could talk to him about it. The boys were already breaking their necks trying to find out who the other Werewolf is, that randomly showed up to their full moon fun last summer and every month since then.
She'd tried to get Aurora to talk to Remus about it, maybe try and find what he was using for the aftermath, whatever it was it seems to make him bounce back a lot faster than Aurora does. She'd tried to find out, pestering her brother with questions but Aurora nearly bit her head off when she'd told her what she was doing.
"We should probably be paying attention you know" Natalia pushed her thoughts away trying to listen back to Professor Hawks. "Mhm, don't think Nick would like us copying him any more than usual" Natalia hummed in agreement. The pair focused on the presentation in front of them in silence.
The pair made their way to the great hall for lunch, preparing to tell Rory about class, and for Natalia to prepare for her next study period.
An arm was slung over Natalia's shoulders. "Do you have any idea how boring Transfiguration is? I mean honestly, it sucked" Aurora grumbled. "You usually like it, what happened?" Natalia leaned into her friend's grasp.
"The Quidditch match this weekend was bloody canceled! It ruined the whole class experience!" The girl shouted angrily. "Wait what?" Quidditch having caught his attention. "Quidditch! Canceled! Over some stupid feud with the Captains"
"Aw bloody hell, you'd think they'd sort it out by now" Johnny groans. The two continue their bickering about their Captain's feud. Natalia having zoned out not all that interested in the sport. Her attention was drawn down the hall.
James' loud laughter along with the bickering of Sirius and Peter. James is slightly in front of the two who seem to be fighting over a piece of folded parchment, Remus is behind them looking down at a book in hand. The four boys disappear in the sea of students entering the hall.
A tug on her sleeve gained her attention. "Where are we gonna sit today?" Rory questioned. "Uhm, wherever Nick is, I suppose." Johnny butted in. Natalia nodded in agreement before stopping.  "Anywhere except Hufflepuff, please" Natalia gave her best puppy dog plea look.
"Hey! What's wrong with good ol' Hufflepuff" Johnny puffed up standing up straight, trying to look tough although Natalia noted he looked more of a grumpy pitbull. "Nothing, Sorry Johnny I just don't want to deal with Diggory more than I already have to today." She patted his shoulder. Johnny seemed happy with this statement, having returned to his usual slouched posture. "Fair enough Nat" Rory spoke up. Johnny nodded at that.
"Good thing too, Nicks at my table" Rory pointed to Nick sitting in a swarm of blue, standing out in his yellow uniform.  The three went to sit with their friend. Johnny sitting with Nick and the girls sitting opposite.
"How was herbology?" Natalia asked, picking up her assortment of food for her lunch. "Actually, while we were supposed to be watering the plants, I got sidetracked and found something interesting on Mandrake leaves, specifically to do with you-" He pointed with his fork at Aurora "-and your erm.. furry problem" he awkwardly scratched his neck at his own wording.
Natalia gave Johnny a look. Johnny caught it. Dryly coughing he said, "Uhm we also learned something on that lovely topic too-" He paused and Aurora glared at him to continue. "In class...For our assignment that is and not my words here-" He grunted and spoke in a horrible deep Professor Hawks voice. "- It is thee most important assignment of this whole year in DADA."
Aurora banged her head on the table, lying head down she muttered a lot of muffled curse words. She slowly lifted her head. "Well, what'd you find Nicky? Hope it's good."
At that, Nick sat up, pulling out his book from his bag. "Let me find it... Here! 'The leaves of a Mandrake could be used as ingredients in Potions. But they also have additional magical properties: part of the process by which a witch or wizard became an Animagus was holding the leaf of a Mandrake in their mouth for an entire month'." He looked up expectantly.
"I don't understand Nicky" Johnny looked utterly confused. "Right.." Nick began flicking through the book, slightly irritated at the lack of response from his friends. "The instructions on how to make the potion and whatnot are fairly simple, except it takes a month to make."
"Yeah, Okay but why would we make it" Aurora cut Johnny off. "Better, how would it help? I mean I'm sure it would be fun but.." She exaggerated the end of her sentence. "Aren't you in Ravenclaw?" Natalia poked her friend's shoulder. Rory leaned all of her weight on her friend, almost laying on top of her "Funny, truly." Natalia shook her head as she chuckled.
She noticed Nick still searching through his book, face scrunched in either concentration or frustration. "So what your saying is we could become illegal Animagus' to help Rory on her, nighttime fun" Nick whipped his head from his book. "Yes! I mean I don't particularly want to do something Illegal, but I think it could help Rory so eh" He shrugged with a soft smile.
"Yeah! We could lead you away from the castle, and away from the Gryffindors" The others could barely understand what Johnny was saying, food stuffed in his mouth. "Gryffindors?" Natalia raised her eyebrow, trying to give him the same look her mother would when James broke her vase last summer. Apparently, it worked.
He swallowed his food fast. "No. NO, I meant your brother and his friends, you know how-" Natalia cut off his rambling with laughter. Holding her stomach. "I was Kidding!" Remembering his startled face, she began laughing again. "So not funny" He huffed, skulkingly picking up another sandwich.
She settled down after a bit. "It is a good idea though Nick. I'm in. Rory, how do you feel about this?" Aurora has her head almost touching the paper of the book Nick was previously reading. "I don't know, I mean it'll be Illegal not to mention difficult to make. Oh! and dangerous!" She added sarcastically. "Rory we all are prepared to do this for you. We're your friend we want to help." Natalia said rather seriously. "I'll- I'll think about it yeah?" Her voice was quiet and shy, unlike her usual self which was full of confidence.
The other three nodded and continued a less heavy conversation.
After saying goodbye to her friends. Natalia began her walk to the library.
Once there she sat at what she considered her table. A comfy patted seat in the far corner away from most people. Inisionaly she sat here with Remus when he was helping her with DADA, back in her third year. It was the only seat left in the library, she'd sat there ever since.
She sat there for a good ten minutes. She knew Amos knew that she would sit in the back, as she had every other time. Deciding to do her own homework couldn't hurt.
Slightly agitated he still hadn't shown up as she finished references for her History of Magic essay. It had been at least half an hour. He wasn't coming. Packing her things back into her bag. Finding a book she had finished reading, and deciding to get a new one while she was here. Giving the old book back to Madam Pince; the librarian. She began her search on a finding a new book to read.
Finally, she found one, the second book of the series. It was new too, wasn't there last week when she'd gotten the first book. Trying to reach the book with her heavy bag in hand. Putting the bag down, now standing on her tiptoes. Her fingertips just brush the spine of the book. Deciding against trying again she began to reach for her bag.
"Do you need help with that?" A male voice spoke softly behind her. She yelped in fright. Natalia turned, face to face with Barty Crouch jr. Much to her surprise he reached up and grabbed the book easily handing it to her gently. "Thanks?" He quietly laughed "Sounds like a question" Natalia felt slightly embarrassed. "Sorry, I do mean thank you, I just wasn't well-" "Expecting a Slytherin not to be a total asshole?" "To put it bluntly yeah" She breathly laughed. He laughed along with her.
She looked at him, really looked at him. His wild brunette hair fell into his eyes, which were shut, crinkling the sides of his face. His smile was contagious. Natalia found herself laughing along with him. "I quite like you, Potter. I hope you enjoy the book" Natalia smiled. "Natalia." He looks slightly shocked. "Well, Natalia, if you liked the first book the second one is much better." He gave her one last smile as he turned and continued his day.
Barty was right, the second book was indeed much better than the first which surprised her. Natalia sat with her roommates in the Gryffindor common room. The other three girls are focused on their Potion assignment.
"I think we should do an easy one, like a strength potion! We learned it in first year" Marlene whined. "No, we can do something a bit more challenging than that" Lily decided. "What about Dreamless sleep potion, that's harder to do."
"Exactly why on Earth would we want something harder?! Mary, what are Remus and you doing?" Mary looked up from where she was writing, for what seemed like the first time that night. "Urm, Right Remus wanted to so an advanced potion, Wolfsbane. And I want to get it right so shush." Wolfsbane. Natalia made a mental note to ask Nick about it the next time he has Potions, Slughorn seemed to like him best out of their group.
"Of course! Advance potion blah blah. Lily please, something easy." Marlene continues to whine, hanging half upside down off the one-seat sofa. "What about a Sleeping Draught potion" Natalia intruded on their study. "What?" Marlene twist so he was now just regularly half off the sofa. "Sleeping Draught, it kind of in-between Beginner and Advanced." Natalia shrugged "You don't have to it was just a-" "Perfect! Lily?" Lily began flicking through her notes. "Yeah, yeah I think it could work! Thanks, Talia."
"What would you do without me huh" "Keep talking like that you'll have an ego like your brother" They all laughed.

Jasmine Potter was doing fine. In fact by the latter half of term she had managed to put Sirius Black out of her mind. She was barely fazed by his angelic laugh, his dazzling smile or his perfectly styled hair. She hardly thought of the way he’d make her insides flutter by a look or how just one touch would make her melt into a puddle. She’d even managed to be civil with him whenever they were around one another, something she was trying to do more often so that James wouldn’t question her absence around him or worse try and pry.
The only thing was that she wasn’t sure how she was doing so well, especially given how awful she’d felt those first few weeks of term. Maybe it was just that she’d found other things to make her happy like her friends or her school work. Maybe it was that she didn’t have time to dwell on the feelings anyway as seventh year piled on projects and essays like someone shovelling coal onto a fire. Maybe it was the fact that she had a new project partner and friend, Theodore Scamander, who was sweet and kind to her, not to mention easy on the eye.
Then again maybe she was just getting over it. Healing.
Although as much as she welcomed it that idea scared her. Because Sirius moving on was one thing but her moving on meant that what had transpired would be stuffed in a memory box, never to see the light of day, never to be acknowledged or revisited. And she wasn’t quite sure she wanted to do that just yet, even if Theo was extraordinarily handsome and watching her as if she was the Mona Lisa instead of doing his homework.
She could feel his gaze on her now, those dazzling azure eyes that still seemed bright in contrast to his complexion even if his summer tan had started to fade. Yet even a tan wouldn’t hide the blush that was liable to cross his face if she looked up and caught him watching her. And though she was doing well her mind couldn’t help but flit to Sirius. Sirius wouldn’t blush, no, Sirius Black was not a bashful, shy boy who stared at pretty girls and blushed when they caught him. Sirius Black might catch you looking at him and if by chance he did he’d smirk, that Sirius Black smirk, and go back to allowing you to marvel at his beauty. And with that thought she decided not to embarrass him and spoke before she looked up giving him a chance to pretend he’d been enthralled in charms homework.
‘Are you checking on Finn tomorrow or me?’ she asked, peeling her eyes from her book at the very last moment.
‘Oh, er, I can,’ Theo said, looking as though he’d forgotten they even had a project [a baby kneazle called Finn] to check on even though that was the reason they’d become friends in the first place. Since they’d begun at NEWT level their care of magical creatures class had dwindled quite significantly leaving only a few stragglers behind. Because of this Professor Kettleburn had entrusted them to do some bigger projects, the first of which was hand rearing a Kneazle from a kitten to full grown, where they’d then be adopted out as pets. Jasmine had been looking forward to it until he’d announced this would be a joint project for two and given that she spent the majority of her class with James, Lily and Sirius she’d been panicked. If James chose Lily there’d be no reason not to go with Sirius and given James had more reason to keep his girlfriend happy rather than his best friend she hadn’t waited for them to make the decision for her and immediately locked onto Theo, who’d seemed surprised but was easy going enough he didn’t really question it.
‘If you’re busy I can do it it's no bother,’ she said, ‘I just didn’t fancy trekking all the way out to Hagrid’s hut in this weather.’
‘Oh, well yeah I can but maybe we could do it together,’ Theo said, adding as casually as he could, ‘maybe we could head into Hogsmeade after, warm up in The Three Broomsticks?’
‘Don’t you have any plans?’ Jasmine asked. She could feel him skirting around the edges of something but she wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about it just yet so she decided to see if he was going to be brave enough to do so.
‘No, but don’t worry if you do,’ he said.
‘I don’t,’ Jasmine said, pursing her lips before she let the words come out, ‘would it be a date?’
‘If you wanted it to be,’ Theo said, ‘or it could just be as mates.’
‘A dates fine,’ Jasmine said, surprising him and herself though she managed to keep her expression less wide eyed.
‘Brilliant,’ he said, unable to stop beaming a smile, ‘how about we go over that bit on wordless incantations now?’
‘Yeah, why not,’ Jasmine said, a smile on her own lips.
✵✵✵
Given it was a Saturday afternoon The Three Broomsticks was crammed full of patrons either because the wind outside was biting, inviting Christmas shoppers in from the cold, or because students were still revelling in the freedoms this side of the academic year offered, the deadlines and exams feeling still far away with the buffer of a holiday. Nevertheless, it was hard to get a seat which the marauders and Lily found out as they hurried in from the cold only to find nearly every sittable surface taken.
‘Shut that door, it's freezing!’ Lily said, making Peter who was bringing up the rear of the group kick it closed behind him with a thud.
‘Warm in here though. I’m sweating already,’ James said, tugging off his red and gold thick woollen scarf.
‘I’m not surprised there’s a million people here,’ Remus said, craning his neck to see if he could spot an open table.
‘Yeah I’m not seeing any seats,’ Sirius said, doing the same though the crooked layout of the pub made it hard to discern if there were any gaps.
‘Yeah ‘cos everyone else didn’t send the morning running drills on the quidditch pitch,’ Lily grumbled, pulling her coat around her tighter as the warmth of the bodies and fires hadn’t quite removed the chill that had settled in her by sitting in the stands for a ridiculously long time.
‘You could’ve stayed in the castle, not my fault you like watching me fly,’ James said, elbowing her with a grin that made her roll her eyes. Then their attention was captured as Remus said, ‘oh there’s Jas!’
‘Oh good, we can sit with her,’ James said though as he attempted to head in her direction Remus said, ‘maybe not she’s with someone.’
‘So?’ James said.
‘So it looks like a date,’ Remus said, jutting his head towards where Jasmine was sitting. The table she was at was small, just room enough for two, and though she could be spotted through the crowd it was hard to tell who was sitting opposite her unless you were benefited with a height like Remus’. Without thinking James, Peter and Sirius all careened onto their tiptoes to spy a mop of blonde hair. James’ brow furrowed, ‘who’s that?’
‘Theo Scamander,’ Sirius said sourly.
‘Well they're just project partners I bet they won't mind,’ James said though as he attempted again Lily grabbed him by the arm and yanked him back, earning a confused look as all eyes fell on her.
‘They’re not just project partners…it is a date,’ Lily said awkwardly.
‘Why didn’t you say?’ James frowned. It wasn’t that he particularly wanted to be involved in his sisters' love life, that was just asking for trouble, but he would’ve expected Lily to keep him in the loop even if Jasmine didn’t. Then again he supposed he shouldn’t be shocked none of them knew what was going on, James felt like he hardly knew her these days though he didn’t know why. Lily however didn’t appear to have any sympathy for his predicament and said, ‘because I’m not a gossip! She’d tell you if she wanted you to know.’
‘Yeah, Lil’s right. Best leave them to it,’ Remus said, ‘c’mon let’s go to The Hog’s Head.’
‘Fine,’ James said, glancing over at his sister one more time before he headed for the door, tucking his scarf back on as he went.
As they ambled out one by one chatter slowly started to resume yet no one noticed the absence of input from Sirius, who was trailing behind quietly. He hadn’t said much since he’d spotted Jasmine, that familiar ache in his stomach at the sight of her, one that was always worse when he didn’t have a pretty face by his side to distract him. In fact as they sat in The Hog’s Head, sipping on butter beers and chatting about Christmas and quidditch Sirius couldn’t distract himself at all. Instead, his mind focused on her and more importantly, the way her hand had been interlaced with Theo’s on the table.
✵✵✵
Much to Sirius’ disappointment James’ worries about his brotherly duties surrounding his sister’s relationships all but disappeared. Admittedly their first meeting with Theo in his new capacity as Jasmine’s boyfriend was a tad awkward but had ultimately ended with James declaring to his friend’s that Theo was a ‘sound guy’. He didn’t even waiver when Sirius had joked about his extreme niceness or perpetually happy mood responding to every barb with a ‘well it’s not me going out with him is it?’
Sirius reasoned James didn’t really like him and he was just happy Jasmine was electing to spend more time with them. Sirius was happy she was hanging around more too even if her bright eyed, goofy smiled beau came as part of the package now.
He knew he had no reason to hate the bloke. He knew he had no right to begrudge her moving on but he always reasoned that it was different for him. The girls he’d dated didn’t mean anything, not really, they didn’t make him laugh or giggle. They didn’t whisper sweet nothings in his ear when snuggled up in a common room armchair. They didn’t make him light up whenever they came into the room. Theo did that for her. He knew that because he watched every moment of it, wishing so deeply it was him even though he knew it never would be. Even if James had come to terms with Jasmine having a boyfriend it wouldn’t be the same if it was him. Theo was sweetness and light. Sirius was, well, a black sheep. Not even good enough to stay in a horrible family. No, James wouldn’t be as accepting if it was him because he knew, like Sirius did, that Jasmine could do better.
So that’s why he watched. He was watching them now though he was supposed to be playing a game of chess with Peter who was sitting cross legged on the floor of the common room, his chess set balanced on the corner of the coffee table between him and the chair Sirius was in. Chess with Peter never required much thought because there wasn’t much point in doing so, Sirius had only ever beaten him at once and even then he wasn’t sure how. So he didn’t bother, allowing the other boy to agonise over every move whilst he shifted his pieces lazily around the board and spent the rest of his time discreetly eyeing Jasmine.
She looked pretty today, her dark hair down around her face which she only did once she was switched off for the day, the unruliness of it making it fall down into her eyes whenever she was writing or rushing about. He was surprised it hadn’t fallen now given she was looking down, focused on the book in her hand. He used to love it when she’d read to him. As a child he used to be an avid reader, as there wasn’t much else to do in his house, but his mother had forbidden all non-magical books or works of fiction. Jasmine favoured muggle fiction books, reasoning that books about magical creatures and daring characters weren’t particularly interesting when raised on stories from family friends like Alastor Moody. Her books were all about everyday people and the heartaches and challenges they faced and yet listening to her voice’s gentle lilt as she played with his hair made him feel more exhilarated as all the knights and dragons ever could.
That must be how Theo felt now as she read to him, a gentle whisper that got lost in the chatter of the common room not that she needed to speak any louder as she was intertwined with him, her legs draped over his as his arm rested behind her on the back of the chair.
‘Your turn,’ he heard Peter say, snapping his attention back to the board once more. He glanced at it and noticed no matter how he played it the other boy would have his queen in two moves, three if he was lucky.
‘Knight to E4,’ he muttered, watching as his piece moved to safety if only for a couple more minutes. Thankfully he didn’t feel the crushing blow of defeat as James appeared not a moment later, a gleaming smile on his face as he leapt over the back of the couch and bounced down near Sirius causing Jasmine to look up at the clatter.
‘Careful!’ she said, shuffling closer to Theo.
‘Sorry Jas,’ he said, ‘a little over excited.’
‘What else is new,’ Jasmine said, rolling her eyes though Sirius got his meaning immediately.
‘You managed it then?’ he said, abandoning their chess game altogether as James leaned forward and nodded, ‘tested it on the portrait of the old woman and the baby up on the sixth floor. Miles away from anything so no chance anyone could set it off accidentally.’
‘And?’ Peter asked eagerly.
‘And every word triggered it and I tried every counter charm I could think of to stop her and none did,’ James said smugly, ‘so the teachers shouldn’t be able to either.
‘Not right away at least,’ Sirius said.
‘Hopefully not before Moony feels well enough to leave the hospital wing,’ Peter said.
‘I called by on my way back,’ James said, glancing around to make sure no one was listening before he continued, ‘he’s still not feeling great but his wounds are healing. Might be in another day or two so I figured we do it tomorrow night after quidditch practice and he’ll reap the benefits before we break up for the holidays.’
‘Good idea,’ Peter nodded. Sirius nodded too though as he thought about it he became unsure. From the first year to now they’d curated many pranks, this even one of the tamer ones, but they’d always done it as a team. Anything that needed planning and coordination like this needed the four of them and with Remus out of action they’d struggle to get an entire castle's worth of portraits charmed without help.
‘What is it?’ James asked, noting the worry in his friend's face.
‘It’s a lot of ground to cover just the three of us,’ Sirius said. James pondered it for a moment and then nodded, glancing at Jasmine who was still sat beside him but back enthralled in her book, her brother's disturbance not hampering her enjoyment of her story.
‘Why don’t we ask Jas?’ James whispered as he looked back at the boys.
‘Think she will?’ Peter asked just as quietly.
‘Yeah, sure she will for Moony,’ James said. Sirius allowed himself a glance at the girl oblivious to them all talking about her. A flutter ran through his stomach.
‘Yeah but just her don’t want anyone getting wind,’ Sirius said, hoping his stipulation sounded reasonable. Even if five bodies would be better than four he didn’t want Theo Scamander anywhere near him. Fortunately for Sirius James agreed not to include his new found friend too and nodded.
✵✵✵
‘Morning,’ James said the minute Jasmine stepped off the spiral staircase into the common room, startling her and earning himself a swat on the chest.
‘Merlin you scared me then!’ she sighed, readjusting her bag which had fallen down her arm.
‘Sorry,’ he said, ‘I’ve been waiting for you.’
‘Why?’ she said, her eyes narrowing as she looked at him.
‘I need a favour,’ he said, offering his pleading smile. Jasmine rolled her eyes and started walking, ‘oh come on Jas.’
‘What kind of favour?’ she asked as they headed through the portrait hole in the direction of breakfast.
‘Help with a prank,’ he said, making her stop and raise an eyebrow.
‘That’s not very ‘Head Boy’ of you,’ she said mockingly.
‘It’s for school morale,’ he said, adding, ‘don’t tell Lil?’
‘What is it?’ Jasmine sighed. I
‘We’re going to charm all the portraits in the castle to sing Christmas songs when they hear certain words,’ James said. Jasmine pondered it for a minute and then said, ‘no.’
‘Oh come on, don't be such a grump,’ James grumbled.
‘Why can't you four just do it?’ she asked. Even though she’d started acclimatising herself back to the boys she wasn’t gung ho on getting involved in some hare-brained scheme.
‘There’s only three of us with Moony in the hospital wing so it’s too big an area to cover,’ James said.
‘I don’t know,’ Jasmine said.
‘Please? It’s for Remus, we wanna cheer him up. It was Pads’ idea,’ James said. Jasmine could feel her resolve weakening. She wasn’t particularly keen on the idea but she often felt for Remus. His condition was horrible and though she admired him, and his friends for sticking by him every month, she worried about him. Especially as James had informed her that this month he’d gone rogue from their little group when they were out on the full moon and had gotten into a centaur’s path leaving him beaten and bruised and therefore longer recovering. She also felt her resolve waning at the mention of Sirius, not because she wanted to spend time with him but because even if he had not acted right by her his fierce passion and love for his friends always shone through. That she had to admire.
‘Go on then,’ she grumbled.
‘Brilliant!’ James beamed, pulling her in for a side hug. Jasmine pulled out of it quickly, attempting to smooth down her now ruffled hair as they walked on.
‘So what’s the plan?’ she asked as they made their way down the steps towards the great hall. Hearing the bustle of students James stopped just short of the doors and lowered his voice just to stop anyone overhearing.
‘Well we thought we’d split it in two halves. One team on the west with the map and the other on the east with the cloak,’ James explained.
‘Me and you can have the cloak,’ Jasmine said, ‘give Sirius and Pete the map.’
‘Actually Pete is helping me with some quidditch drills after dinner so it’s probably better if we team up. If we get caught we can just say we’re walking back and didn’t realise it's gone after curfew,’ James said. Jasmine felt her stomach drop. Sirius’ hare-brained scheme she could cope with if she didn’t have to be with Sirius himself but god knows how long with him walking the halls of the castle, she didn’t know how she’d cope.
‘Why isn’t Sirius practicing with you?’ she asked casually hoping she could steer the plan back to how she wanted it without arousing suspicion.
‘He’s got detention,’ James grumbled, ‘I thought you could meet him after and start in the west half. He’s still got the map anyway, not that he used it otherwise he wouldn’t have got caught after curfew with Maggie Alstrop last night.’
‘Right,’ Jasmine said, ignoring the knot in her stomach at just how he’d got himself in trouble. She didn't care after all she was with Theo. She thought about it for a moment. She didn’t particularly want to spend one on one time with him but she did want to do something for Remus. And at least having the map was better than being smushed together under her father’s cloak.
‘So you’ll do it?’ James asked.
‘Yeah, I’ll do it,’ Jasmine said.
‘Thanks Jas,’ James beamed before strutting into the great hall to find his friends. Jasmine however floated over the Hufflepuff table and sat with Theo.
If she was going to spend time with Sirius Black, it wasn’t going to be longer than she had to.
✵✵✵
The seventh-floor corridor was deserted when Jasmine arrived there which wasn’t surprising given not much happened on this level and most students would no doubt be headed back to their respective houses as curfew neared. Sirius was perched on the edge of a stone plinth that held up an ornate statue of a knight on horseback but he looked up as he noticed her dot on the map coming towards him.
Even if he had not explicitly asked for James to pair them up he had hoped it would be her based on the fact he preferred her a lot more and that he and Peter often ended up squabbling when joined up for a task. She however didn’t seem as thrilled as he was, a reserved smile on her face as she padded up to him and muttered hello.
‘Where’s James?’ was all he could think to say and it evaporated her smile almost immediately, a sour look replacing it as she said coolly, ‘he sent me instead.’
‘Right,’ Sirius said, not helping the matter though he opted to breeze past it and ask, ‘so he’s been over the-’
‘Charms, yeah,’ she replied, ‘he explained everything and gave me a list of the trigger words. Just one per painting right?’
‘Yeah, if it’s variable it’ll be harder for the teachers to pin down and stop it,’ Sirius said. When Jasmine didn’t respond an uneasy tension settled between them. One he hadn't felt before though he realised since summer they had never been alone, just the two of them, first by his design and now just because they’d never had a chance given she was always with Theo. Sirius cleared his throat, ‘right well I figured we might as well work top to bottom. It’ll be easier to get back to the tower that way.’
‘Yeah fine,’ Jasmine said unenthusiastically.
‘I’ll do right, you do left?’ he asked.
‘Yeah sure,’ she said and without a word she headed to the first painting and pulled out her wand, pulling the list of trigger words out of her back pocket before she cast the singing charm and the chosen trigger. The sleeping portrait of a wizened old man disturbed as the charm hit the frame but then went back to snoozing.
Sirius checked the map, noting that none of the teachers or Filch were anywhere near their operation and set to work himself. Other than the mutterings of the incantations it was quiet for the majority of their time working, the silence only made more noticeable as the castle started to wind down, students disappearing from the corridors as curfew fell. Sirius kept a check on the map periodically though he found these breaks always coincided with taking a glance at Jasmine, who kept her back to him most of the time.  As they finished another long and winding corridor and climbed aboard a set of stairs to the next level Sirius decided to be brave and risk a conversation for the first time that night.
‘Having fun?’ he asked, as they meandered down the staircase waiting for it to latch onto its destination so they could climb off.
‘Tons of fun,’ Jasmine said sarcastically.
‘Better than homework though I suppose you wouldn’t agree,’ Sirius said.
‘What?’ Jasmine asked. The staircase had stopped now, allowing them to step off but she kept her eyes on him rather than their destination as they walked out onto the third floor.
‘Well, you’ve been busy studying right? I guess it just feels like you’ve hardly been around these days,’ Sirius said, feeling sheepish as her eyes narrowed. Her disconnect from the group was something he was still getting used to as was the way she eyed him these days, with scorn and irritation.
‘It’s seventh year,’ was her curt reply.
‘Yeah, yeah, I guess,’ he said. Jasmine nodded and moved towards a painting of a young girl with outrageously long French plaits tending to a flock of sheep. However Sirius didn’t follow her lead and instead tried to continue the conversation.
‘So how is revision going?’ he said, forcing her to look away from the painting.
‘Fine,’ she said, ‘you?’
‘Yeah fine,’ he muttered, ‘be better if I had a good study partner.’
‘Maybe pick someone other than James to study with and you might get a bit further,’ she mused. Sirius grinned, ‘yeah probably…I’d ask you but you’re fully booked right?’
‘What?’ she asked, her smile fading as she lost the thread of his meaning.
‘Well you and Theo are study buddies right…now that you’re dating,’ he finished, the last of the sentence feeling awkward in his mouth and even more so as Jasmine scowled.
‘So?’
‘So, I guess I just didn’t see you two as going together. I mean you weren’t really friends before,’ he said.
‘What’s that got to do with you?’ she asked curtly, folding her arms across her chest. Sirius straightened up.
‘I didn’t say it did,’ he replied indignantly.
‘Well good because it's none of your business,’ she snapped.
‘Alright, fine if you don’t want to talk about it,’ he said, raising his hands in defence.
‘I don’t. Actually I don’t want to talk about anything with you,’ she scowled. Sirius scowled back.
‘We can just do this prank in silence then can't we,’ he retorted.
‘Fine by me,’ she huffed.
‘Fine,’ Sirius grunted.
Yet as he turned to his painting to start his side he heard the creak of a hinge and looked to find the flash of a tail pushing back through the door towards the staircases. Sirius grabbed the map and looked to where Mrs Norris was bounding up a staircase towards Filch just a floor above them. Jasmine looked at him worriedly.
‘What was that?’ she asked.
‘That bloody cat!’ Sirius grumbled, ‘Filch is right around the corner.’
‘Right, okay,’ she said, already starting to think of a plan but Sirius didn’t let her finish because he could see Filch charging down the stairs towards them. Instead he grabbed her by the arm and tugged her along to the end of the corridor and into a broom closet, wincing as she shouted, ‘what are you doing! Sirius get off me! Get off me right-’
Jasmine fell silent as they got behind the wooden door but only because his hand was now clamped firmly over her mouth preventing her from speaking any further even if the blaze in her eyes spoke volumes. After a heated silent conversation Sirius relented to move his hand thanking the stars that she stayed quiet, if thoroughly annoyed. Not that it helped matters though as Filch came directly towards them, pacing the area near the broom cupboard as he said, ‘come on out. I know you’re there; Mrs Norris told me so. So come on, whoever it is, show yourself!’
Sirius glanced at the map which was hard to see in the darkness of the closet and even harder to focus on as Jasmine leaned into that they were inches apart, her voice causing goosebumps on his neck as she whispered, ‘what do we do?’
‘Ignore him,’ Sirius said. It wasn’t ideal but he was sure the caretaker would yield eventually. Jasmine didn’t look convinced, even less so as Filch declared, ‘come on now! I know you’re here. Show yourselves.’
‘He’s not going to go,’ she said quietly.
‘It’ll be fine,’ Sirius lied.
‘I’m gonna go,’ she said.
‘Jas,’ he protested, placing a hand on her arm and trying to ignore the way his skin felt as though it was on fire when she moved it off.
‘Just stay here until we're gone,’ she smiled weakly, ‘and don’t make a noise.’
And before Sirius could stop her she slipped out of the cupboard and out of Sirius’ view. Jasmine could feel her nerves bubbling inside her as she stepped out into the stone corridor and found herself face to face with their bedraggled caretaker. She’d never liked getting in trouble and since her first couple of years and a natural navigation away from James and to her own friends she hadn't really fallen victim to it. And yet now in her seventh year on the verge of being a grownup she was standing in front of an authority figure thinking of how she was going to wangle her way out of trouble.
‘I knew there was someone here,’ Filch said, a malicious glint in his eye, ‘what's your name.’
‘Potter, Jasmine Potter,’ Jasmine said, ‘look I’m sorry.’
‘You know it’s past curfew,’ Filch said, with a hint of glee that signalled to her he was enjoying the power of it all. The only problem was Jasmine didn’t feel like letting him have any power. After her argument with Sirius something had stirred in her. She didn’t much feel like letting men get away with anything tonight. Sirius questioning her relationship. James and Peter getting away with a prank that was their idea whilst she got in trouble. Filch getting off on his power trip. So, she yanked it all away and broke into a fit of hysterics.
‘I’m so sorry I didn’t realise! Oh, please don’t tell McGonagall. I’ve just been so upset,’ she blubbed, trying not to smile as Filch's face turned ashen, ‘everything’s a mess! I’ve just got so many exams and deadlines. I fell asleep in the library because I was working so hard so I didn’t realise curfew had already come-’
‘It’s okay,’ Filch said hurriedly.
‘I can't do anything right these days my friends say don’t worry but it’s hard not to especially when you're on your period-’
‘Right, right, okay,’ Filch said, flushing deep crimson at the mention of a menstrual cycle, ‘no harm done just get to your house.’
‘Really?’ she sniffled, ‘oh thank you so much Mr Filch! You’re so lovely!’
‘Yeah,’ Filch said, clearing his throat awkwardly as he went even redder, ‘well off you go.’
Jasmine offered him one last smile before she skipped off towards Gryffindor tower, happy that for one shining moment of this year she’d got her way. Sirius would be left baffled; she wouldn't be in trouble and Filch didn't get to dine out on his punishment.
Yet as she walked back to the tower she found her happiness fading. The common room was empty and though she had every right to head to bed she couldn’t bring herself too, waiting nervously on the sofa until the three of them made it back. She reasoned that it made sense to, that way if Sirius didn’t make it back she could send James and Peter to look for him. She was just about to as James and Peter came through the portrait hole first, looking perplexed to see her alone. But then he walked in, beaming a confused smile at her that made her heart flutter, even if she had spent the majority of the night arguing with him.
‘Where’ve you been?’ James asked as he appeared.
‘Got caught by Filch,’ Sirius said, looking at Jasmine as he said, ‘what happened? I couldn’t hear properly but he walked off in a right old huff.’
‘He let me go,’ she shrugged.
‘How did you manage that?’ James gawped, the amount of run ins he’d had with the caretaker ending up less than an even split in Filch’s favour.
‘Filch can't handle crying girls,’ she said, ‘got him all flustered when the tears came.’
‘Bloody nora,’ Peter grinned. Jasmine smiled, before she turned her attention to Sirius, their uneasy tension now petered out as she asked, ‘did you manage the rest?’
‘Yeah just not the floor below this,’ Sirius said.
‘Maybe we can hit that tomorrow before quidditch practice,’ James said with a yawn.
‘Good shout,’ Sirius agreed, looking at Jasmine. He was just going to suggest she join them but she backed up and said, ‘well I’ll leave you to it. Night boys.’
‘Night Jas. Thanks again,’ James said, giving her a one-armed hug before he took to the settee with Peter. Sirius lingered behind as an awkwardness settled.
‘Night,’ she said.
‘Yeah, er, night,’ he agreed though as she turned he said, ‘good job Jas. Really.’
‘Thanks…I um, I had fun,’ she said.
Sirius smiled, ‘me too.’

Cannons in my writing and things to know:
Below is some of the things i tend to keep cannon in my writing but these can differ depending on the readers house and storyline (mostly for hp fics):
If the reader is Hufflepuff they are always friends with Jess McConnell and Cedric Diggory (Golden Era), or Amos Diggory and Alex McConnell (Marauder Era)
If the reader is Slytherin they will usually be friends with Timothy Greengrass and Joey Taggart (Golden Era), or Regulus, Barty, Evan and Pandora (Marauder Era)
I won’t write Marlene, Angelina, Pansy or Astoria as villians, they may be in the story but I refuse make them toxic for the sake of it
Cedric won’t be used as a way of making people jealous, I see that used alot plus I really like Cho and Cedric so i prefer to write him as a good friend/brother figure
Neville and Luna are always sweeties
Marlene and Dorca are always iconic queens
In non-voldy universes Peter is the cutest and sweetest marauder (aka the loveable weirdo)
When the reader isn't paired with them the following ships are cannon: wolfstar, dorlene, jilly or jegulus/marylily, hinny, romione
If you don’t like 🏳️‍🌈 relationships then this isn’t the page for you

"Potions and then Divination,” James announced, letting the sheet of paper fall right into his plate. "I think they're trying to kill us..."
The first day of classes was always a busy one. In the Great Hall, it was time for an early breakfast spent chatting with friends, meeting new people, and most of all it was time to discover the timetables that would organize their lives for the entire year. And sometimes, students were everything but satisfied about it all…
"And again the Slytherins in Potions," muttered Sirius, "It's like they actually want get us into trouble. I mean, haven't they realised yet that it's never a good idea to put us all in the same room?"
Remus nodded, barely touching his food. The full moon was only a week away, and he was already beginning to feel the first effects of his monthly transformations.
“Some of them are alright, though,” Peter tried to cheer his friends up. “Meg’s very nice!”
“I know, Wormtail, I am aware,” Sirius mumbled, chasing his remark away with a quick gesture of the hand. “When I talk about the Slytherins, I mean the idiotic ones.”
“The wannabe Death Eaters,” James nodded, shoving a mouthful of pancake into his mouth.
“And sadly, there are quite a few of these here,” Remus heaved a sigh. “I’ve heard that Jackson - the seventh-year Ravenclaw, you know? – I’ve heard he wants to be a part of it too, after he passes his NEWTs.”
“How nice,” Peter groaned, a dark expression passing on his face, before he would take a sip of pumpkin juice.
“I’m giving us two classes with Snivellus and co. before it all goes to shit,” Sirius predicted, shoving some egg and bacon into his mouth.
“Yeah, well… we’ll see,” Remus shook his head, taking a tiny bite out of his toast. “What else do we have on Mondays?”
While the Marauders were busy talking about their timetables, Clara, Alice and Marlene came to sit next to the four boys, filling the last spots still available around the Gryffindor table.
Professor McGonagall handed them their timetables as well, and Alice soon let out a moan.
“Divination…” she groaned, desperate.
“You should have taken Ancient Runes,” Clara chanted to annoy her some more, until Alice shoved her away. They two of them let out a merry laugh.
Alice was distracted from thoughts of her terrible class though, when her boyfriend took the empty seat next to hers, and dropped a sweet kiss on her forehead.
“Where’s Lils?” he asked, looking around with a frown.
"She's coming. She still had some things to… organize… plan… schedule… or whatever," Clara answered with a vague gesture that clearly indicated that she had no interest in whatever Lily was busy with at the moment.
Casually listening to the girls’ conversation, Sirius couldn’t help but chuckle at Clara’s disgusted expression.
"Now… are you telling us that you’re unorganized, Clearwater?" Sirius asked in a mocking tone, his mouth full of bacon again.
"Very much so," Clara admitted.
“I thought you’d be like Evans: uptight.”
Clara was about to answer, an amused smile on her lips, when she was interrupted by Marlene suddenly grabbing her by the arm
"Oh! Love is in the air..." said Marlene excitedly.
They all followed her gaze towards the doors. Indeed, Liam and Lily were talking, standing on the threshold of the Great Hall. The girl nodded, blushing and grinning, and finally headed towards her friends at the Gryffindor table, whilst Liam was joining the Ravenclaws. Lily sat down next to her friends as if nothing had happened, but no one around the table was fooled.
"All right, spit it out, Lils! Now!" ordered Alice.
"He just wanted to talk to me," the prefect answered, picking up a toast in the most casual fashion she could manage.
"And...?" her three friends encouraged her in unison.
"And... we're going to take a walk at noon."
Marlene was so excited that she almost emptied the bottle of pumpkin juice all over Peter.
"Girls, you really are ridiculous, " Lily admonished, but she couldn’t refrain her grin.
She suddenly stopped eating, her fork halfway between her plate and her mouth.
"Do you think I should wear lipstick?" she asked bluntly.
The boys all rolled their eyes, all of them listening to the girls’ conversation by now.
"Pink!" Clara answered in an instant.
"Red!" replied also Alice, in chorus with Clara.
The two girls exchanged a look, before focusing again on Lily.
"Definitely red!" confirmed Alice. "Your lips are perfect, Lils, show them!"
"Don't trust her," replied Clara. "It's not an official date, is it?"
"No, we're just going to talk," Lily shook her head, taking a bite into her toast.
"Then follow this crucial rule of make up: "no date, no red"!"
"This rule is bullshit, Clara," Alice fired back.
The young witch narrowed her eyes and pointed her fork at Alice.
"It's one of my Mum's rules, it's not bullshit! By the way, here is the explanation: it's not an official date, you're just going to talk with him, which means that there is a high probability for nothing to happen at all. After all, you could realise that he doesn't want the same thing as you, that he’s jerk... whatever. In this case you will not want your lips to be irresistible, quite the contrary. But, if everything goes fine, and you want something to happen, you will need lipstick. So, wear pink lipstick. And by pink lipstick I am obviously referring to this lovely one you have, you know the very light one..."
"I don't have any bright pink anyway," Lily smiled.
She seemed to think for a moment, eating slowly, before she could take a decision.
"Sorry Alice, but Clara's right. Pink lipstick it is."
"But Lils, your lipstick is not even pink, it's too discreet!"
"Discretion is good for you, 'cause it's leaving you a way out," replied Clara.
Lily shook her head.
"Pink lipstick, definitely."
James was still half-listening to the girls' conversation, half-listening to the debate that had resumed between Peter and Remus concerning their classes of the day. Had he been asked about the matter, he would have told her not to wear any lipstick at all. She was already perfect, and she didn't need red or pink lipstick to improve the delicate curves of her lips. He always wanted to kiss them anyway…
He shook these thoughts away. He had to stop thinking like this. James had taken a decision, an important one, and he needed to stick to it. Lily was the past. Lily was the past. Lily was the past...
The ginger girl finally took a look at her time table.
"Potions and Ancient Runes, which means Divination for you two."
Alice groaned again.
"Oh, come on Alice, it's not that bad," Frank laughed at his girlfriend.
"It is," Sirius joined in. "It is and has always been utter bullshit."
"Why did you take this class then?" asked Marlene.
Sirius pointed an accusing finger at James, and the four girls rolled their eyes.
"Your problem, Alice, is that you're too honest in Divination," stated Clara. "You have to make things up!"
"I don't know how! What would you do?"
Clara heaved a dramatic sigh, and her four friends already had amused smiles on their faces, knowing that whatever she was going to say next ought to make them all laugh. It was a talent of hers, really.
"I don't know, Alice, I can't answer that question. You have finally discovered my darkest secret: I have the Inner Eye, and I can prove it."
"Prove it then!" Sirius challenged her, already chuckling.
Clara closed her eyes, throwing back her head and making her hands tremble above the table. She took a deep and theatrical tone.
"I see... I see that Lily is going to burn her tongue with her tea..."
At the same moment Lily choked and put her napkin on her mouth, tightly closing her eyes. She had clearly burnt herself with her tea…
They all burst into laughter.
"See? Nothing complicated really," Clara winked.
“How did you know I’d do that?” Lily frowned, but stopped her friend when she was about to answer, knowing all she would receive as an answer was some teasing. “Actually, you know what? Never mind…”
They all laughed again, and for the first time in years, all the Gryffindors enjoyed their breakfast together in a merry gathering.
After breakfast, they all headed together towards the dungeons. It was a bit weird to walk with the boys, but it turned out to be quite pleasant. It was a nice surprise to start their first day. James and Lily barely spoke to each other, and so the girl didn't scowl at him, nor made a scene. And James chose not to ask the girl anything, and merely enjoyed the casual conversations that crossed the group. Clara was grateful, as she was enjoying her own conversation with Sirius. It turned out that he wasn’t as superficial and childish as she had thought he was. Perhaps he wasn’t so bad, after all…
They were walking down the magical staircase, holding the railings as it turned smoothly to the left, pivoting while suspended in mid-air. They had barely reached the entrance of the corridor, leaving the stairs behind, when they passed by a group of fourth-year students. Most of them were Slytherins, but there were a couple of Ravenclaws and Gryffindors as well. Sirius froze at the sight of a dark-haired boy in their midst, sporting the green and silver colours of the Slytherin house. It took him a few seconds to muster the will to walk again, but he did so anyway, following his friends. Clara had stopped to wait for him, a frown on her brow, but she asked nothing. She followed Sirius’ stare instead, glued onto the Slytherin boy, and she was quite taken aback by the striking resemblance between the two teenagers: this boy was an almost-identical replica of Sirius, only two years younger.
Sirius walked past him.
"Reg."
He nodded his head to his younger brother, but Regulus only replied with a disdainful look and strode away, without another look towards Sirius.
The Gryffindor clenched his jaw, looking over his shoulder to stare at his younger brother as he disappeared up the stairs.
"Your brother?" Clara asked.
"Yeah..."
Sirius had managed to avoid Regulus on the train and at the feast the previous night. Though it was obvious that he couldn't escape from his little brother forever in this way-too-small castle, Sirius had hoped that their first confrontation since he had run away from his parent's house would be delayed as much as possible. And he couldn’t hide it, the way it still hurt to have his younger brother look at him this way. Because this… this wasn’t Sirius’s fault. None of it was…
"He didn't seem very happy to see you," Clara added.
"Long story."
She noticed that he Sirius didn’t seem eager to speak about it, so she dropped it. Instead, she picked up the conversation where they had left it, and asked him again about his favourite Queen song. Sirius smiled. He felt grateful for it.
When both James and Remus turned towards him, wearing worried frowns, he gave them a reassuring nod.
He would be alright. He was always alright.

Lily could feel Severus’s stare burning a hole in her skull, and she hated it.
After what had happened at the end of the previous year, she couldn’t be his friend anymore. She couldn’t talk to him, let alone sit next to him and partner with him for this class. After all, he had insulted her; he had betrayed her, in more ways than one.
His loss. She was determined to not let him ruin her new year at Hogwarts.
She was now sitting next to Marlene, but she couldn’t ignore the disappointment in the Slytherin’s eyes as she walked past him, as she took her seat next to her Gryffindor friend. She couldn’t ignore the way he stared at her now.
And she hated it. She hated it because it made her feel guilty, when none of this was her fault. He was the one who had fucked up, insulting her, becoming friends with people who looked down on her as their inferior, at best; as some kind of vermin to get rid of, at worst. She couldn’t be his friend anymore, and it wasn’t her fault. He had no rights to glare at her like this, as if she was the one making the other suffer…
She tried to focus again on the task at hand, writing down the ingredients for the first potion they would study this year.
Moonstone, seaweeds, dried grass…
She had noticed Avery sitting down next to Severus. And Avery was not a kind person at all. He was part of the most fervent followers of Voldemort’s ideology in the school.
What was Severus doing with this kind of people?
She shook her head, copied the list of ingredients written on the blackboard again.
Mandrake, salt, a pinch of silver dust…
She hated herself for feeling guilty, as if she was abandoning him, somehow. She wanted to believe he could still be saved, but what was the point? Over and over again, it seemed, he kept on proving her wrong.
Was it truly selfish, then, to push him out of her life? He could only bring darkness, and there was enough fear and hurt outside the protective walls of the school. No, it wasn’t selfish to push him away. He was the one who was wrong, she reckoned she had been patient enough with him. If he wanted to follow the wrong path, it was his choice. She would be sad for him, still. Maybe, one day, he would realize how wrong he had been…
Again, her quill wrote down instructions, although her brain wasn’t registering any information for now, it was too busy thinking about the past.
Stir for fifteen minutes until the concoction becomes grey.
She heard some quiet laughs coming from somewhere behind her, and wasn’t surprised when she caught Sirius and James trying their best to stifle their laughter. She saw Remus glimpsing over his shoulder too, and shaking his head at his two friends, amused, while Peter smiled at the mere sound of his friends’ quiet laughter.
It was strange to start her sixth year spending time with these guys, but James seemed willing to let her be and it was a great improvement, for sure. And then, there was Liam, that she was about to take a walk with, and maybe… maybe he would be her boyfriend by the end of the day.
It was a crazy year already, for sure… full of surprises.
The lesson passed by rather quickly, even though it was a little dull. But as she was throwing her bag on her shoulder, Slughorn asked Lily to stay for a moment. She couldn’t refrain a wince as he asked Severus to do the same. The teacher waited for his classroom to be empty to speak to his two students.
"Why aren't you two partnering anymore?" he asked, crossing his arms before him. “The two of you work so well together, it’s a shame!”
"It's personal, professor," Lily answered quickly, so Snape would not have a chance to give his own excuse, "I don't think I can work with him anymore, that's all."
"Well, I'm quite sad to hear this. Is everything alright, though, Ms. Evans?"
"I'm sorry, professor. But yes, everything is fine. I simply don’t want to work with Severus for now."
Slughorn seemed to hesitate, but chose to drop the subject. Next to Lily, Snape was remaining silent, but he clenched his fists, hiding the gesture behind his back.
"Well, off you go then,” their teacher added with a smile. “It doesn't matter very much I guess, and you can't be late for class on your first day, not on my account!"
The two students exited the room in silence. It was heavy, painfully so. Too much to last for too long. Severus ended up taking a deep breath, before trying one more time to convince her…
"Lils..."
"Sev, don’t,” she quickly interrupted him, unwilling to listen to arguments she had heard a hundred times before. “There's nothing you can say that will make me forgive you for what you did last year. You insulted me and humiliated me in front of the whole school..."
"I'm sorry, Lils. How many times will I have to apologise?"
She stopped walking and heaved a deep sigh.
"It's not just about last year, Sev. It's everything. I don't recognise you anymore, and the gang of Slytherins you've become friends with… they aren't good people, and they'll get you into trouble."
"But Potter and his gang won't get you into trouble, will they?" he snapped.
"What?"
"I saw you at breakfast with them this morning, and you came with them to the dungeons. They aren't good people either, Lils! Have you forgotten what they’ve done? What Potter has done?"
"You're acting like you’re jealous again, Sev, and this is another reason why I can't be your friend anymore."
She strode towards the staircase, but she stopped and turned back one last time towards the Slytherin as she was climbing upon the first step.
"And just so you know, James Potter may be something of a git sometimes, but at least he and his friends have nothing against muggleborns, against people like me and my friends. He's annoying, but he doesn't insult me. And he drives me insane, but he’s never been mean to me or tried to control me. So, I guess between the two of you, my choice is easy to make."
She ran up the stairs, fleeing from Severus's hurt gaze.
She felt guilty, terribly so. She hated to see so much pain in the eyes of someone who used to be her friend… And yet, she knew she had taken the right decision. Maybe, one day, things would get better between the two of them. But for now, she couldn’t simply forgive and forget.

Sirius was starting to doze off, partly hidden behind his crystal ball. Their extremely old teacher, Professor Needles, was trying to explain how they could all use this extraordinarily powerful tool to glimpse into their future, but no one was really listening; except for Remus, as always. But as the boy was listening to every class anyway (even History of Magic, and Merlin knew that was the worst), it didn't really count.
The classroom in itself wasn’t helping the bored students to remain focused. It was dimly lit with only a couple of tiny round windows, decorated with stained glass that painted colourful shapes upon the wooden floor. The walls of stone were covered with heavy tapestries, making the air of the room heavy with the dust that settled between the threads. They were old, dusty, and their colours had faded long ago, making some of the images barely readable now.
In this heavy atmosphere, it was hard not to feel tired; and the boring monologue of their teacher, spoken with a monotonous voice, was not helping.
"By the way, Prongs, are you alright?" Peter asked, sitting straighter again, in an attempt to stay awake.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" answered his friend, taking off his glasses and rubbing his sleepy eyes.
"Well, I don't know, Lily and Liam will probably be officially together by the end of the day, so..."
"How delicate, Wormtail, as usual…" Sirius replied dryly, while keeping his eyes closed, his cheekbone resting in his palm.
Peter scowled at him.
"I'm fine, Wormtail, thanks," answered James.
It was a lie, obviously. He wasn't fine at all, actually. How could he be fine? Lily would soon be snogging some stupid Ravenclaw, how could James be alright?
The mere thought of Liam kissing her made him nauseous…
But he was determined to not let any of his feelings show. He was going to get over Lily, and he had no intention to wallow in self-pity. She was moving on, and he was going to do the same. Or well… moving on… He guessed Lily wasn’t moving on, as she had never felt anything for him at all…
He cleared his throat, folding and unfolding the corner of his parchment in a bored gesture. He was fine. Everything was fine…
"You know what, Prongs? You should do the same as Lily," Sirius told him, finally opening his eyes to look at his friend.
"What do you mean?" James questioned him, resting his chin in his palm, still playing absentmindedly with his parchment.
"You should find yourself a girlfriend."
"I’ve already tried this Sirius, remember?” James answered with a wry chuckle. “Many times. And it never works."
Sirius shot him a mischievous smile, a triumphant glint alit in his grey eyes as he sat straighter again and leaned a little above the round table towards his friend.
"Ah, but you’ve tried to heal yourself with snogging and sex… I'm talking about the real thing right now."
"What do you mean?" asked Remus.
Even he couldn't focus too long upon the nonsense their teacher kept on speaking.
"You should try to have a real girlfriend, to have a serious relationship," Sirius added.
James didn't answer. It didn't sound that stupid, actually...
"I mean," Sirius went on, "maybe if you're with someone who actually wants to be with you, you'll want to be with her too after a while. And then, you'll forget Lily."
James nodded slowly.
"That's a good idea, I reckon."
"It's weird, but sounds logical," agreed Remus.
“I’m a little hurt that you both seem surprised by the fact that I’m having a brilliant idea.”
“Those are pretty rare, coming from you,” Remus teased him, owning himself a playful glare.
"Now, we have to find you a girl, Prongs,” Sirius stated with a bright grin on his lips. “Operation HGP is on!"
"Operation what?" asked Peter.
"H.G.P: Hot Girl for Prongs."
The four boys chuckled, choking on their own laughter as they tried to remain as quiet as possible. But their teacher kept on monologuing, and he didn’t notice a thing. He was slowly pacing through the classroom, his dark robe making a soft sound as it brushed upon the floor at every step.
"I know, I'm the best with codenames," said Sirius, "no need to remind me."
"You're the best, Pads," agreed James.
"Or the most idiotic, it depends on the point of view," replied Remus mockingly.
They doubled over with laughter, choking as they tried to remain as silent as possible.
But as they grew calmer again, James grew unusually weary, his shoulders slumping down as if a heavy weight had been thrown onto them.
"Do you think she will go out with this jerk?" he asked his friends, staring blankly at the crystal ball in front of him.
"I'm afraid there's a rather high probability for her to accept, Prongs," Remus answered slowly, a sad smile full of compassion on his features.
James sighed, straightening his glasses.
"Well, operation H.G.P. it is, then."
He smiled, but didn’t manage to fully hide his sadness, while he kept on staring at his crystal ball, wondering what would happen at noon...
Tumblr media
He saw her coming his way across the grass. The sun was blue and bright despite the heavy rain from the previous night. The air still smelled of it though, of the raindrops that covered the earth and grass and trees for a while. The ground was still a little muddy, but Lily didn’t seem to care as she strode towards him, shooting him a bright smile as she spotted him. It was quiet in the grounds: a gentle breeze drawing ripples and strange patterns across the lake; in the distance, the Whomping Willow slowly swayed; a steady white smoke escaped towards the sky from Hagrid’s hut.
And as she walked closer to him, Liam reckoned that Lily truly was beautiful in this September sun…
She joined him by the Lake, at last. He noticed that she looked nervous, her freckled cheeks slightly coloured with a blush.
They spent some time casually chatting about their summer holidays, about their first classes of the morning. But Liam was becoming more and more nervous with each passing minute. So, when the conversation died down by itself after a while, he slowed down their pace, lingering on a spot of the shores of the lake where merpeople sometimes dwelled during the summer.
It was empty now though, a patch of pebbles and sand bordered by high grass and calm water.
She turned to him, frowning a little as if to silently ask him what this was about. He took a deep breath, and dived, even though his voice was uncertain and a little weak.
“We should talk about what happened yesterday."
Lily nodded, but didn't say anything. She looked down at the ground instead, clearly nervous now.
"All right, I guess it's better if I'm direct," Liam announced.
He inhaled sharply, trying to control his shaky voice, to gather his courage, to calm his crazy nerves...
"I really like you, Lily,” he blurted out the words as if he was afraid to grow too scared to speak them out loud again if he waited, if he tried to say it in a more delicate way. “And… I'd really like you to give me a chance."
"You do like me?" Lily cautiously asked him, looking up at him once more.
Her gaze was intense and hypnotic, made of vivid shades of green under the bright sun. The Ravenclaw had to force himself to answer.
"I do. And yesterday, it felt like you liked me too, right?"
Lily blushed hard, but nodded.
"I like you too,” she confessed, her words passing slowly her lips, as if with reluctance. “But... I would be lying if I claimed that I’m confident with all this. So, I don't want us to go too fast... Now, that being said… I’m really happy with what happened yesterday on the train."
Liam grinned at her. She was wearing a discreet, but beautiful pink lipstick, and her lips were even more tempting in this shade. He was sure that she wasn't wearing it that morning, she had probably put it on just before meeting him… for him. His grin doubled in size at the thought.
"It's fine by me. I mean… I get it. I’m not particularly used to this either, so… We should take things slow. But I'd love it if you wanted to be my girlfriend, Lils."
She smiled, nodding again.
"I'd love that too," she answered, blushing even more.
He smiled, his voice soft and gentle when he asked his next question.
"Is it alright if I kiss you right now?"
She nodded once more, and he took her face in his hands, kissed her softly on the lips by the shore of the calm Lake.
Tumblr media
"SO?" Marlene asked the moment Lily sat at the Gryffindor table at lunch.
Lily didn't answer, but her grin and the reddening of her cheeks spoke volumes. Her three friends almost shouted in the middle of the Great Hall, causing their classmates to look at them. Frank almost choked on his chicken as he started laughing.
"I told you to wear red lipstick!" Alice winked, full of mischief.
"Pink was perfect," Lily replied with a laugh.
"So, you finally have a boyfriend. Definitely not too soon..." commented Marlene.
Lily threw some bread at her friend, shushing her.
"It's weird though that James hasn’t said anything about it," Alice pointed out. "Even this morning when we were talking about you and Liam in front of him, he didn't react at all."
"I hope it stays that way,” Lily answered in a sigh. “I'm tired of his stupid game, really."
"You know, I was thinking about this and…" Clara said slowly, choosing carefully her words. "I'm not sure that it was just a game anymore. Yesterday, he asked on the train what was going on between you and Liam, and he really did look hurt when I told him you were close."
But Lily rolled her eyes.
"It just hurts his monumental ego that he couldn't change my mind. He doesn't care about me, Clara. I'm a challenge, that's all, and he was disappointed because he didn't win."
"I don't know, Lils, I think he's more honest than you think about you two," replied Frank.
"No, he's not. Trust me, he's not."
Frank and Clara shrugged. After all, Lily didn’t like James, and she had chosen, Liam who seemed to be a nice guy. He was a prefect, he was a safe choice, he seemed to suit the girl quite well. As Clara glanced over at the Marauders further down the table, they were laughing and joking merrily, as if nothing was wrong. She shrugged again, focusing on her mashed potatoes. Maybe Lily was right. Maybe it was nothing serious at all...
Tumblr media
James took out a bottle of ink, a quill and a piece of parchment.
He was sitting with the rest of the Marauders in the empty space at the centre of their dorm. It was night already, they were coming back from dinner in the Great Hall. But it was not time to sleep, the Marauders had some work to do.
It was a tradition, really. As Remus passed the bag of jelly beans to Peter, he couldn’t refrain a smile. It was nice to have these rituals with the boys. It made him feel at home. It made them all feel like they were more family than mere friends…
Since their second year, the four boys gathered like this after their first day of class, sitting on the wooden floor while eating treats, in order to write down their list of resolutions for the year. The list would then be hanged next to Remus’s bedpost, and he was the one in charge to remind the group of the missions they decided to fulfill before the next summer break.
James cleared his throat, dipping the tip of his quill into the dark ink.
"All right, fire away!"
Behind him, Frank closed his curtains, laughing softly and thanking himself for the sound-proofing spell he had cast on the curtains during his third year. This spell really was saving his life... or well, his nights at least...
"I'll start the list with 'getting over Lily Evans', I reckon it's an important point," James added, half-joking as he began to write. “What else?"
"No Exploding Snap for Peter in the dorms," said Remus.
"Hey!" Peter protested, but he was quickly interrupted by James.
"No Wormtail, Moony's right. You really did scare us last year when you set your curtains on fire..."
The boy added Remus's remark to their annual list of resolutions, straightening his lopsided glasses.
"Don't accept students in their second year on the Quidditch team," said Sirius wisely.
James nodded and wrote it down, sadly remembering how the second-year boy he had selected the past year had vomited on his broomstick at the beginning of their first match…
"Clean up the dorm," said Remus.
Sirius and James looked up at him with surprise.
"You still have hope? After five years?"
Remus sighed.
"Write it down anyway," said Peter. “For Moony.”
James shrugged and bent over the parchment again. He ran a hand through his messy hair as he quickly went through the list.
"Prepare a good prank against the Slytherins before the end of September," James added.
His three friends enthusiastically nodded.
"Spend more time with the girls," said Sirius.
They all frowned at him.
"Which girls?" asked Peter.
"The Gryffindors, of course. Who else could I be talking about?”
Remus rolled his eyes, annoyed.
"Padfoot, we've already talked about that, and there's only one tiny rule concerning your passion for girls and boys you must follow: do not touch the Gryffindor girls in our year. Is that really that complicated?"
Sirius glowered at him.
"I didn't mean that, Moony. I said talking to them, not snogging them. Besides, you’re saying that as if I was only thinking about sex, which is not true at all."
"Why do you want to talk with them anyway?" asked Peter.
Sirius shrugged.
"I don't know, they're okay, I guess. And you can't deny that we had a good time during the trip to Hogwarts yesterday. Clara's funny."
James narrowed his eyes.
"Do you want to talk to the girls or to Clara?"
Sirius rolled his eyes.
"The girls. I'm just pointing out the fact that they might not be as boring as I thought they were."
Remus threw him a stern look.
"Sirius, I know them better than you. And Clara is funny, it's true. And she's clever, and kind-hearted, and she's also a human being whom I appreciate very much. I officially forbid you to try anything with her. Do you understand?"
"Moony, again, I said talk, not snog. She's a Gryffindor in our year, I know, thanks, and I don't intend to 'try anything with her'. I just enjoyed talking with her. It's not like I've been flirting with her, anyway. Why are you so upset?"
"It's not like you usually care about girls, Pads," replied James.
"Okay, you know what, don't write it down. I just meant that we should try to be more friendly with them, and know them better, because we've all enjoyed their company today, but as you seem to think that I can't control myself..."
"That's not what I meant, Padfoot," said Remus. "I just don't want you to hurt her, that's all. She's very pretty after all, and..."
"I didn't say all this because I thought she was pretty, I just genuinely enjoyed talking with her. For Merlin’s sake, I’m not a pervert. I’m not obsessed with sex..."
"So, you don't find her attractive at all?" asked Peter, propping up an eyebrow.
Sirius sighed and shook his head, annoyed.
"Of course, I think she's attractive, Wormtail. I'm not blind. But she's a laugh, I enjoyed myself with her today, and on the train. End of story."
James bent over and started to write.
"Prongs, don't write it down, it'll upset Moony."
"No you're right, Padfoot. We should talk to them more."
"All right. But also write down the fact that Sirius can't touch Clara, nor any of the girls," Remus said.
"Already did."
"I can feel your trust and faith in me, guys," replied Sirius, glowering at them.
"It's not that way, Pads..." said Remus. “I’m just… you can’t handle a relationship, don’t try to deny it. And I know Clara, she wouldn’t settle for anything less. So… just… don’t…”
"It's okay Moony, I understand. I’m well aware of the fact that I’m emotionally unstable.”
“Pads…”
“What? It’s true,” Sirius shrugged, genuinely unphased by the statement. “They’re nice, though.”
“Alright, I’ve written that down,” James nodded, looking up at his friends again. “What else should we put on there?”
They spent most of their night chatting and laughing and joking, while adding another item to their list from to time to time. It was a merry night in the boys’ dormitory.
A good way to start a new year…

Most Crushed on Male Harry Potter Characters: A Study (Version 2)
Because I feel that my original study on the most crushed on male Harry Potter characters was flawed, I decided to do a part 2. This time, I looked at all of the characters listed below on every website, regardless of whether they have 10 works or 10,000 works. On AO3, I also looked at original character pairings because I believe the author is usually attracted to the canon character they’re writing about or they’re writing for an audience that is attracted to the canon character. However, I couldn’t look up OC-prairings for Tumblr and Wattpad and explain why under their individual sections. The websites I looked at were AO3, Tumblr, and Wattpad. These are the results as of December 31, 2023 (I know I’m late to posting this, but it’s because I forgot to add other edits to this post until now)!
Included characters: Draco Malfoy, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, Newt Scamander, Cedric Diggory, Sebastian Sallow, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, James Potter, Tom Riddle/Voldemort, Ominis Gaunt, Neville Longbottom, Lucius Malfoy, Regulus Black, Ron Weasley, Theodore Nott, Oliver Wood, Bill Weasley, Charlie Weasley, Blaise Zabini, Mattheo Riddle, and Lorenzo Berkshire.
Note: I didn’t include Harry Potter (the character) because results for Harry Potter on Wattpad and Tumblr frequently returned results about the Harry Potter fandom as a whole, not Harry Potter himself.
Original study link (August 6, 2023) here!
Tumblr media
*Collage is mine, but all the photos were found on Google
AO3
What I did: The number of works under “(male character)/reader” and “(male character)/you” differed, so the green number is the higher number of works between those 2 tags. The blue number is the number of works in “(male character)/original character(s).” The red number is the added total between the green and blue numbers. The characters will be ranked based on the red number.
Results:
Draco Malfoy: 1,445 + 2,981 = 4,426 works
Severus Snape: 1,128 + 2,769 = 3,897 works
Sirius Black: 952 + 2,236 = 3,188 works
Remus Lupin: 900 + 1,500 = 2,400 works
Sebastian Sallow: 880 + 1,379 = 2,259 works
Fred Weasley: 743 + 1,228 = 1,971 works
Tom Riddle/Voldemort: 361 + 979 = 1,340 works
George Weasley: 684 + 932 = 1,616 works
Ominis Gaunt: 421 + 697 = 1,118 works
Regulus Black: 223 + 878 = 1,101 works
James Potter: 375 + 506 = 881 works
Charlie Weasley: 152 + 548 = 700 works
Cedric Diggory: 232 + 422 = 654 works
Ron Weasley: 212 + 430 = 642 works
Lucius Malfoy: 202 + 384 = 586 works
Neville Longbottom: 190 + 383 = 573 works
Theodore Nott: 95 + 426 = 521 works
Newt Scamander: 336 + 130 = 466 works
Blaise Zabini: 79+ 322 = 401 works
Oliver Wood: 123 + 198 = 321 works
Bill Weasley: 106 + 170 = 276 works
Mattheo Riddle: 59 + 108 = 167 works
Theseus Scamander: 72 + 25 = 97 works
Lorenzo Berkshire: 10 + 13 = 23 works
Potential problems:
I think the AO3 results are the most accurate since for the most part, all reader-insert works are under only 1 name of the character, not something like “Snape/Reader” and then “Severus Snape/Reader.” However, I did notice that there were sometimes works with 2 characters where 1 character had a relationship with the character, while the other character was in a loveless arranged marriage or some sort of non-con relationship that the author didn’t mean to romanticize.
Also, whenever I calculated the the number of works under both “(male character)/Original Female Character(s)” and “(male character)/Original Male Character(s)” it was always less than the the number of works under “(male character)/Original Character(s).” Therefore, I’m not sure if this means I undercounted OC-pairing works.
Tumblr
What I did: I researched “(male character) x reader,” “(male character) x you,” and “(male character) x y/n.” The number of followers under these tags sometimes differed, so I recorded the highest number of followers between the 3 tags. However, I couldn’t count the number of followers for any tag along the lines of (male character)/OC. This is because Tumblr doesn’t provide the number of followers for OC-pairing tags for whatever reason. Also, some characters are tied because Tumblr only shows followers in thousands and hundreds, not the specific number.
Results:
Draco Malfoy: 15k followers
Sirius Black and Remus Lupin: 12k followers
James Potter: 10k followers
Fred Weasley: 9.2k followers
Tom Riddle: 6.6k followers
George Weasley: 6.4k followers
Newt Scamander: 6.2k followers
Regulus Black: 5.7k followers
Theodore Nott: 5.4k followers
Mattheo Riddle: 5.1k followers
Severus Snape: 4.5k followers
Sebastian Sallow: 4.2k followers
Cedric Diggory: 3.9k followers
Ominis Gaunt: 2.7k followers
Ron Weasley: 2.6k followers
Charlie Weasley: 2.2k followers
Neville Longbottom and Oliver Wood: 1.9k followers
Theseus Scamander: 1.8k followers
Bill Weasley: 1.5k followers
Lucius Malfoy and Lorenzo Berkshire: 1.4k followers
Blaise Zabini: 1.3k followers
Potential problems:
Because Tumblr doesn’t have a set tag for reader-insert works, I had to look up characters under multiple names, like “Remus Lupin x Reader” and “Lupin x Reader.”
I’m not entirely sure how Tumblr rounds the number of followers under a tag, but the number of followers can vary drastically for characters that are tied depending on how Tumblr rounds. For example, Sirius may have 12,900 followers and Remus may have 12,009 followers, or Sirius may have 12,499 followers and Remus may have 12,001 followers. Therefore, the lack of an exact number of followers under a tag has the potential to mess up the accuracy of the total final results.
I noticed that not every single result under the tag was actually a reader-insert post. However, I don’t think this is a major issue since I counted the number of followers under a tag who are under the impression that every post with that tag actually adheres to the tag title.
Wattpad
What I did: I searched for “(male character) x reader,” (male character) x you, and (male character) x y/n. The number of results under these searches sometimes differed, so I recorded the highest number of results between the 3 tags. I didn’t search for anything along the lines of (male character) x OC (refer to “potential problems” for my explanation).
Results:
Lorenzo Berkshire: 59.3k results
Draco Malfoy: 48.7k results
Neville Longbottom: 46.2k results
Newt Scamander: 42.9k results
Cedric Diggory: 41.5k results
Ominis Gaunt: 30.3k results
Theodore Nott: 22.2k results
Ron Weasley: 19.7k results
Remus Lupin: 17.3k results
James Potter: 14.9k results

I don’t think these results are very accurate, especially since Lorenzo has only 23 works on AO3 yet somehow has more results here than Draco. Because Tumblr doesn’t have a set tag for reader-insert works, I had to look up characters under multiple names, like Remus Lupin x Reader and Lupin x Reader.
Searches for James, Potter, and Remus frequently returned Marauder fanfiction collections which didn’t separate works for the individual characters.
As I stated above, I didn’t research pairings with OCs since many of the results didn’t even return OC pairings. For example, the very first result for Snape x OFC is literally a fic of James Potter x Snape.
If you compare my results from the original study, some of the characters have fewer results than they originally had. I’m not sure if this is an error on my part, if Wattpad changed how it returns results for searches, or if some fics were deleted.
Wattpad doesn’t provide the exact number of results for each search, so this has the potential to mess up the final total results.

Once again, I doubt the accuracy of these results, so take these results with a grain of salt. However, I do think these results are more accurate than my last research study since I tried to be more precise. Also, these results aren’t necessarily indicative of how much a character is crushed on since there are probably plenty of people who don’t write fanfiction, follow tags on their loved character, or interact with fanfiction/the fandom in general. I will do this study on female characters sometime in the future, but I don’t know if I’ll redo this study on male characters. Thanks for reading!
