i've recently reignited my passion for archiving niche fandom history! if you were involved in early mcytblr, sleepyblr, idotsblr, or dteamblr, i would LOVE to pick your brain and collect firsthand accounts of what it was like and different mcytblr events!

a short (but by no means exhaustive) list of events/happenings i'm interested in collecting accounts of:

the mcytblr elections, dlying, gay castle, 'kinnie' imposter blogs, friend or host, any discourse you can remember, the general vibe, truthing, critblr, copypastas (dream is a youtuber, hey wilbur, in this video we coded it so that i am in love with georgenotfound) and whatever sticks out to you from that era!

Alright, I’m pulling out the propaganda for this one: this is for OG SBI, the iconic trio of Technoblade, Wilbur Soot, and Ph1lzA.

Let’s start out with their friendship page on the shipping wiki. D’awww. (Sorry you got out early, Tommy.)

Technoblade:

A name that needs no introduction. A warrior who has bested such combat legends as TapL, fruitberries, and Dream. The reason the cry “Blood for the Blood God!” makes hearts tremble, and sickly fear curdle in the gut of all who hear it. Unerringly loyal to his cause and devoted to his friends, be it the justice-driven anarchist on the Dream SMP, or the streamer who raised so much for charity and held kindness for nearly everyone he met.

Wilbur Soot:

One part comedy act, one part musician. Whether it’s “Your New Boyfriend,” the L’manberg anthem, or the newest Lovejoy release, you just can’t be a fan of this guy and NOT have listened to his music. A theatre kid who embeds a narrative—and a heaping helping of bits—into every situation, it’s no wonder he’s the bard of the trio.

The dad figure, but also more than that. The game of Minecraft itself pays tribute to his incredible hardcore feats, and such glory is plenty self-evident in his streams. Fanon finds him sitting on the throne of SMP Earth’s Antarctic Empire often; however, he doesn’t need such a position to be treated with respect and instinctively called upon in times of need (be it combat, fixing a stream, or losing Geoguessr one too many times). Notably, he also looks out for his closest friends by helping to moderate their chats and ban troublemakers. His name is Philza Minecraft and he is quite wise.

I heard fanfic writing is where majority of people improve their writing skills the most, so I guess I will be going through that phase to improve for a while to give it try? I'm curious to see how much improvement it can cause. I will report my finding as I go. (I'm trying to improve with feedback. Please, forgive me. )

(My first few stories will probably be bedrock bros. Most stories will probably be sbi)

1. Futuristic World Au/(Detroit Became Human Au) : Tommy is a little mischievous kid, and Technoblade is his android bodyguard.

Techoblade's code couldn't help, but go haywire when Tommy said,

" You know, I think you're like the closest thing that I've ever had to a brother. "

Technoblade plans to be the older brother that Tommy deserves.

(Side note: this one will be fluff/angsty. :D)

2. Kingdom Au (?)( the name is not determined yet.) : General Technoblade and knight Tommy.

Technoblade couldn't help but feel urked, ' Who let a kid in the training area? It's dangerous '

" General Technoblade! I see you've met the new recruit. "

Yeah, Technoblade could not accept the fact that the new recruit was so young, no way this is the supposed top knight in the academy. He's just a pip-squeak.

(Side note: this one is mainly fluff. I'm not sure, I will probably update tags as I go and tell y'all if there will be angst.)

I genuinely want to know if anyone would like to read my stories. Also, if you want to request me to write something, I am happy to do so, unless it is inappropriate or makes me uncomfortable. Eddie is the scrungly pathetic man we all know and love, but she's a girl! She's a clairvoyant anti-cop detective with a drinking problem she's trying to recover from by herself. She's endlessly devoted to her family, even the ones that have abandoned her, and she wants to be a better sister to her big sibling who raised her all alone. She has and unbendable - but also unorthodox - sense of morality. Her character development is realizing she wants to live, and choosing to do so! She is tormented by visions. She's covered shoulders to ankles in rose tattoos. She's butch. She cuts her own hair. She has daddy issues AND mommy issues. She's instantly devoted to her femme fatale love interest, but even though she'd die for her she WON'T compromise her principles for her. Her love triangle becomes a happy throuple, despite her initial jealous sabotaging. After defeating the bad guy, she goes to therapy.

Eddie is a relatively short and curvy "pear shaped" Latina woman with very short shaggy brown hair that she cuts herself. She has a round face, a widow's peak, and dark brown eyes. She has blooming rose vines tattooed all over her entire body, and several ear piercings. She wears punky butch clothing and no makeup (except when she is "cross" dressing in her femme girlfriend's clothes). She has lightish brown skin. She's in her mid twenties.

okay so ive been on mcytblr since it was sleepyblr and dteamblr respectively and the answer to your question is thus:

a lot of borderline truthing slipped through the cracks for a few reasons. sometimes a popular blog reblogged it/posted it and people weren't confident enough to call it out, especially if it was really funny. usually the jokes were between friend groups who knew each others viewpoints and boundaries (not unlike early dlying); they usually only got pushback if they escaped the mutual circle (breaching containment).

if someone had friends who would fight for them (like hari and 404blr), they were more likely to escape the controversy unscathed and set a precedent for what jokes were okay to make. the people who got the most pushback were vocal small blogs whose posts accidentally breached containment and weren't funny or popular enough to fight back. they consequently were pushed to the fringe with a fresh sense of persecution, where they would look for comfort and find critblr or one of its branches (truthing mcytblr or ebblr).

it was fascinating to watch in real time; you could see the self-policing of mcytblr, with blocklists being passed around and posts essentially being put under peer review. it all depended on who your peers were and how recently a creator had talked about shipping (which, its important to note, is usually what the creators talked about. the concept of truthing was Very localized to mcytblr-- and even then, as you know, the definition was contested.)

Thanks for the historical context! It does seem like the unevenness of what was and was not truthing was highly contingent on the cultural and ethical tolerances of the budding fandom, which eventually precipitated the phenomenon that is the [[disallowance definition of truthing]] and the [[niche erosion model]] (e.g. people either shrink or populate a niche when they observe a niche).
