A Pslam For The WIld Built | A Prayer For The Crown Shy

The first book that I completed in 2025 is a little bit of carry over from 2024. The monk and robot series by Becky Chambers is a love letter to science fiction and spirituality; two worlds that don't often collide. The first book of two, currently written, I finished in November of 2024.

"This book is about to be my whole personality. I wish I were Dex… I already have the dread, all I need is the beautiful solar punk moon life and robot friend! 🤖🍵"

A Psalm for the Wild Built opens with Dex, a monk for the diety Allalae - the god of small comforts, who feels lost in their current role. Seeking the sound of crickets lost to the city life they inhabit, they set off on a journey of self-discovery. One aspect that I like, which if I'm correct, draws from the author's personal life is that Dex is a non-binary lead. Referred to as Sibiling Dex, using they/them pronouns, the novella already starts with a diverse voice.

The world-building is immaculate. Prior to the current timeline with Dex, robots had become sentient and decided to run off to the wilderness. Making this moon colony a solar-punk dreamscape. Idyllic, picturesque, and whimsical, Chambers paints the multiple biomes in this world with lush/flowery language.

Another thing that took this story and knocked it out of the park, was the pacing and conversations. Well-structured, each conversation/encounter was perfectly placed to add deeper meaning to the surface-level plot.

"Amazing, this little series is thought-provoking and full of hope. It touched on issues I’ve been struggling with, in a way that makes me want to ruminate further. hopeful to grow and expand my emotional knowledge. Just as atmospheric and beautiful as the first one."

The second book A Prayer for the Crown Shy, moves the reader from spiritual concepts of the self to interpersonal connections. The beauty of community, companionship, and family are all subjects that are touched on.

I loved this one as it forced me to re-evaluate some connections I've put on the back burner. Dex has a somewhat tumultuous relationship with their family. They love them, but keep them at arm's length. It's tough to admit, but I've kept my parents on the periphery in a similar manner. I fear the worry or pity that can come with a parent becoming a passive observer in a life they once had control over. A subject I wasn't prepared to connect with in a book as small as this one.

Mosscap, who I've yet to speak about is also the most delightful character. It ( yes it, a decision made with its autonomy) is youthful and full of joy, yet hundreds of years old. Not jaded by human life, Mosscap still wonders at the small joys and comforts that go by unnnoticed by the average joe. As it enjoys Dex's guidance through their world, it brings up conversations about what truly makes us human.

In both A Psalm for the Wild-Built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, Becky Chambers creates a world that is as heartwarming as it is thought-provoking. The series effortlessly blends science fiction with spirituality, exploring not only the self but also the beauty of connection with others. Through Dex and Mosscap's journey, readers are invited to reflect on their own relationships, values, and place in the world.

With lush descriptions, meaningful dialogue, and a deeply empathetic narrative, the Monk and Robot series feels like a comforting cup of tea—both soothing and stimulating. Chambers has given us a story that doesn't just entertain but also inspires us to grow emotionally, foster deeper connections, and find solace in small comforts. This series isn’t just a book—it’s a meditation on what it means to live a fulfilling life. If the rest of 2025 brings stories half as beautiful as this, it will be a remarkable year of reading.

The sun and the moon were reunited

ECLIPSE’S IMMUNITY? HEH. THE STAR!

I KNOW WHY ECLIPSE ISN’T BEING AFFECTED. EDD’S TEAPS RANT / THEORY

WORST PART ABOUT REMAKING A BLOG? LOSING YOUR OLD FUCKING RANTS. BUCKLE UP, I HAVE TO RE-EXPLAIN THIS. If you understand all the background context already, feel free to skip to the SECOND big red text!

Eclipse MIGHT still be soul bonded with The Star, and that is the exact reason he’s not reacting to the virus like anyone else. It’s EXTREMELY important to theorize about this because DAVIS WENT THROUGH A LOOTT OF UNNECESSARY WORK TO HIGHLIGHT “HEY! THESE AREN’T NORMAL SYMPTOMS.”

The Star isn’t active, he can’t use his powers - not because they diminished, but because he’s not in his original dimension. That doesn’t make the Star useless, it just takes away its power, and the ability for Eclipse to use magic.

Allow me to take you back, to OLD, OLD tsams. 2022.

If anyone wants to go hunting for these quotes to fact check, go for it. I just don’t have the episodes on hand.

Moon and Eclipse’s Singularity

Pre-split Sun + Moon. Eclipse doesn’t exist because Eclipse is Moon. I am coming to realize not many people acknowledge that. Most believe Eclipse is killcode, this is misinformation. He is only PART of killcode. He, in Moon’s code, is identified as “Malice” or “Moon’s Malice”. He is a personality trait, which is why his personality was so cramped and underdeveloped through V1. Because his code was so bare in separation, Sun’s code rubbed off on him giving him his body.

Birth of the Neuton Star

Moon discusses with other characters that the Star is essentially linked to the first person who uses it. They, and The Star, create a bond that can’t be severed. This, theoretically and by pure technicality, would’ve been Moon pre-split. That means Eclipse was present. They found the Star, a bare piece of energy, and added onto it with THEIR TECHNOLOGY AND KNOWLEDGE that made it a wieldable weapon.

HOWEVER, because of Moon’s lack-of ‘Star Power Incidents’ as far as I’ve seen, this means the Star wasn’t used upon creation. Instead, it was used by the first person who truly got their hands on it…Eclipse. By Moon’s logic, Eclipse is now bonded to the Star in a way that cannot be severed.

The Star is a repeating prophecy. It will be reborn over and over again over the course of a millennium or so. It will not have a full physical form after destruction, but Star Power itself is in everything and cannot be removed. Like the existence of existing itself. The Neuton Star (as Moon originally names it) will always be built upon and used. This is why Astrals exist, to protect that Star and keep it from the wrong hands.

Eclipse’s False Victory

2023-2024, Eclipse wins. He has the Star, he discovers and labels The Astrals, then after rotting by himself, he decides he doesn’t care anymore. Instead, he decides to let himself die. Until - he has an unexplained vision. A vision that Lunar will cause an Armageddon. He becomes desperate to warn, overtaken by a new purpose as he gets lured straight into an unneeded death trap.

Eclipse’s Death

Eclipse is obliterated. Moon, Solar, and Sun use a satellite to airstrike Eclipse and send him, and the Star, into oblivion. Eclipse reunites with Solar Flare in a place between life and death. Solar Flare reassures him it is over, there’s nothing left to do. Eclipse refuses at first, but slowly melts into frustration and regret.

Solar Flare walks off to enjoy death.

Eclipse stays.

This is important. Because he didn’t ever fully die.

Additional “Rocky-Road Idea”

We don’t actually know if the Star’s been obliterated. I say this because in the beginning of The Star’s existence, it was given to Montgomery Gator. At the time, Monty tried to break it and destroy it in every way possible. This included a BLACK HOLE experiment, and - fittingly enough, an airstrike experiment with a satellite from space. Whether the Star was ever destroyed in the first place is still a question I cannot answer.

Eclipse’s Resurrection

Eclipse is made to believe he is a carbon copy, a clone, NOT the real Eclipse. This is false. This has always been false. If you pay attention, you knew this was false already.

Eclipse wakes up after resurrection with no clues as to where he is, no reason to understand he’s alive, and has a SURGE of issues. He’s paranoid, his personality has been drastically damaged. He’s terrified, anxious, lacking of hate and focusing on answers.

He immediately knows who brought him back. Ruin. And he is DEAD SET on proving it, even after being called crazy. As if he watched it and forgotten it. He has no recollection of anything, his memories are jumbled at first. He reports it was “as if his memories were in third person”. Like the show. This means When Ruin built him, he originally programmed his memories in the same fashion Nexus tried to regain any while being New Moon. He imported all the episodes into his systems.

Yet, he’s traumatized. He’s reacting to issues that happened off screen. He remembers more and more as time goes on, no longer in third person, but in first. We can read discover this BECAUSE he has trauma responses. Nexus did not experience the years of trauma Moon went through, nor did he react to it. Eclipse did react to his own trauma. Often.

Eclipse has a surge of magic. He’s never been committed in any form to learn magic, he’s detested it numerous times. He’s only learned a few things - however, when he confronts the Creator, he instinctively uses it to shove The Creator away. Validly, both him and The Creator are surprised, but Eclipse shoves the issue away, never talking about it again.

As Eclipse moves into this new dimension, all his little “incidents” disappear. The Star is still present, but it is inactive. This is because of the blunt fact that Stars cannot be used in incorrect universes. By moving to a new universe, Eclipse is rendered as helpless as he always has been.

The Memory Of Star Power Theory

Because of all these little details, I came up with the theory that -

V4 isn’t a copy, he is, and always has been, the ORIGINAL Eclipse. I screamed about this for a WHILE. PAPERS! PAPERS! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

I am currently calling it “Memory of Star Power”, but, the memory for water comes from Moana, basically saying “because water is a fluid that can take the shape of anything, it remembers the shape of everything that touches it.”

[Heavily theorized] When Eclipse originally died, the destruction of the Star caused a surge. Not in electricity, but in Star Power. Star Power exists everywhere, The Star is just a physical manifestation of it, and will always be the center point where Star Power is the most prevalent. This is how Eclipse originally tracked it down in 2022-2023. Suddenly exploding the main body can make the Star Power in the area almost suffocating - if it wasn’t as natural, or lively as oxygen.

The remnants of Eclipse, his memories, his DIMENSIONAL CODE, or even his SOUL dispersed with that power, roaming earth like oxygen without anywhere to go…until, a few months later, when Ruin creates his little side project(V4). The idle Star Power was aware of V4 as a work in progress created by Ruin because Star Power is omnipotent without a conscious. Simply because it exists everywhere, and remembers all that is.

Eclipse wasn’t “conscious” at the time, he was dead. But, that memory followed with him when the Star Power RETURNS to Eclipse’s body to find its rightful place…in that un-severable bond with Eclipse.

It is as if Eclipse himself has fulfilled the Rebuilt Star prophecy by BECOMING the Star - in an odd metaphor way, and a literal sense.

Why tell us this?

BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN RECENTLY, INDIRECTLY CONFIRMED TO BE CANON. Eclipse confronts Ruin about if he truly is just a carbon copy like Ruin has said he is. Ruin drops that - no. He never was. He was never a cheap copy to begin with. Ruin says if Eclipse had never died, he would still have turned out like this eventually.

This means that Eclipse was effectively revived from TRUE death. This is highlighted because no other character other than LUNAR has met TRUE DEATH and come back without some universe breaking rules. But…lowkey…Lunar ended up the same way - he was reborn as a Star. How…how interesting.

Now that you know THAT, what’s it gotta deal with the current Virus?

DAVIS HAS MADE IT CLEAR THAT ECLIPSE ISN’T HAVING THE RIGHT SYMPTOMS. When people in the show share contradictory opinions, you have to cherry pick with some EXTREME critical thinking.

Ruin, someone DAVIS plays as, stares at the Virus’ symptoms that BELONG TO HIS CHARACTER - and says “That isn’t normal.”

Charlie claims The Virus acts differently for everyone. This is a direct combat against Ruin’s claim.

However, seconds later she contradicts her own claim.

Another thing to mention is that Ruin ISN’T being DUMB. He’s HIGHLY educated on this out of all things from sheer experience. He is lashing out in anger and desperation, but he is not allowing it to CONTROL him like we saw in his first lash out against Charlie.

He refrains from cussing, tries to convince, provide evidence, explain himself - he is not attacking Charlie verbally, trying to put her down, or anything of the sort. He is simply desperate because they are ALMOST at the finish line, and now everyone is backing out. Which, can be fatal.

Logistics break!

Ruin is objectively correct. Everyone CAN survive and then be cured AFTER being infected. Especially since Ruin is inherently immune and working on the cure. That is their current goal for the virus with MONTGOMERY GATOR. Once they have the cure, they can disperse it EVERYWHERE.

The main concern for everyone else is “what’s going to happen between now and then?” People could die, the world could end, permanent damage could be inflicted, and IS being inflicted AS WE SPEAK. Hundreds of people are losing their lives while Ruin is held them back from killing Monty at the beginning.

But, if they back out of making a cure now, if they decide to kill Montgomery, it’s not going to save everyone. In fact, it is far too late for that, because it can now be considered the end of the world. The virus has spread across the globe. There isn’t any way to “kill Monty and kill the rest” like a patient zero outbreak - because Montgomery Gator IS NOT PATIENT ZERO. RUIN IS. Whether that can now be applicable if we were to kill Ruin is up for debate.

The Virus now has MILLIONS of hosts. Once Monty dies, it will CONTINUE to spread. Ruin’s decision to make a cure was a fatal decision when Monty first came around, because then, they HAD a choice. They think they no longer do now because everyone is dying - but they aren’t realizing that they are about to choose a choice that NO LONGER EXISTS.

RUIN IS NOT ACTING IRRATIONALLY TO ACT IRRATIONALLY. RUIN’S CURE IS LIKELY THE ONLY REAL OPTION THEY HAVE ANYMORE. RUIN IS ACTING LIKE THIS BECAUSE HE HAS LIVED THIS EXACT SCENARIO BEFORE, AND KNOWS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

Ruin is very disconnected from humanity. He doesn’t WANT to see them die, but if it comes to it, Ruin would throw away the species to save something greater. He has before, and he will again. This stems from his years of brainwashing low-key. “Humans must die” and all that.

FINALLY. AFTER ALL THIS INFORMATION, HERE’S WHAT I CLAIM

The remnants of Star inside Eclipse is cancelling The Virus. Negatively.

The Virus gets into your head and essentially takes control of you, turning you into another person entirely, and sealing yourself away in the back of your subconscious. [Third time, Eclipse?] [sorry that was uncalled for] That “new person”, that SHELL, that ENDGAME of the Virus is what takes your memories, your virtual amygdala, and twists it around and heightens it like nothing else before. It will take things you are no longer dwelling on, and use it as a main motive.

The symptoms of the Ruin Virus goes as following: Intrusive thoughts, blacking out [typically engaging in violent activities], hysteria, irritability, verbal filter loss, and a complete loss in control of strong emotions [extremely dramatized, exaggerated, explosive, etc.]

However, Eclipse is having completely opposite symptoms.

Eclipse is seen to be irritable at the beginning of today’s episode [Eclipse gets CORRUPTED by the RUIN VIRUS in VRCHAT], and then his emotions subtly vanish. He has minimal reaction, zones out, loses a sense of awareness, but remains HIMSELF.

Roxanne in this episode becomes delirious. She becomes paranoid, senses heightened, having intrusive violent thoughts while she keeps a hold of her final-stage sanity - like we saw with Ruin’s Monty in older episodes such as Ruin’s HISTORY in VRCHAT [or the other one…it was a Nexus and Ruin episode where bro gets lobotomized…there’s only 2 of those episodes so it won’t be hard to find.]

Even before then, Roxanne was irritable, aware of everyone, and angered by such. Roxanne wasn’t herself, like she was stuck in a mindset focusing on nagging, nagging, nagging.

Ruin’s Monty was delirious, hyper vigilant, and extremely blackout violent. He didn’t become aware of what he was doing until it was done, though following the string of intrusive thoughts until he finally commits the act of killing people.

Ballora became irritable, aggressive, and violent. She isn’t necessarily black-out violent, but she’s clearly not herself. She became tunnel visioned, easy to distract and anger, and quick to violence.

Eclipse on the other hand becomes a complete statue - the OPPOSITE of what The Virus would do. It’s not the idea that Eclipse is just affected differently to quirkily contrast his already violent self, it’s a DIRECT RED FLAG.

Not to mention, Eclipse hasn’t LOST HIMSELF like everyone else. He is not lashing out, he is not using old anger, new irrational anger, or ANYTHING of the sort.

Eclipse is on ONE line of thought, the entire time. He does not become distracted, he does not huff out of anger - but desperation and realization. He continues to speak out his goal, what needs to be done, he does not give in to a mindset of violence and delirium. He is FULLY sane…while losing complete motor and thought control.

If The Virus was working PROPERLY, Eclipse would be the MOST FEARED to be infected, because he has the most experience in senseless violence. He would probably kill EVERYONE without a second thought. IF. THE. VIRUS. WORKED. PROPERLY.

But THE VIRUS. ISN’T. WORKING. ON ECLIPSE.

Think of it like a common sickness. You do not get symptoms from the virus itself, you get symptoms from the evidence that your body has RECOGNIZED a virus, and is ACTIVELY fighting it. Whether it is losing or winning is irrelevant.

When you cough, sneeze, vomit, or even HICCUP it is to REMOVE the infection that you are stuck with. It is a direct combat strategy your body puts into motion to expel your body of something foreign.

If you were to go into a COMA, it is because your body physically cannot heal with you being conscious at the same time. If you were, it’d worsen swelling and all sorts of problems. When you are advised to rest while you are sick, it is because it gives your body the chance to focus on fighting the infection. To continue to do things while your body is fighting will weaken your systems and often cause you disadvantages in the battle - which makes it worse.

The EXISTENCE of clogged Star Power inside of Eclipse - the DEFINITION of life ESSENCE - is ACTIVELY FIGHTING the Ruin Virus to see which can keep the body, considering Eclipse…in theory…may have possessed HIMSELF - DUE TO THAT RESURRECTION.

“One possession at a time, please!”

It is causing Eclipse to go into a stand-still comatose state while his body is fighting off the Virus as much as it can. Eclipse may not be ABLE to GET infected for all we know BECAUSE of this. We have yet to see if The Virus will eventually overcome The Star. If it does, will it turn him into a speechless zombie, or will it remain as Eclipse? Or, if The Star will overturn The Virus, Will it make him IMMUNE?

My personal thought is that he will be in a constant standing-coma.

Last thought off tonight’s topic.

Ruin is the virus.

Do we all remember this?

“Eclipse” [dead name] and Ruin are the same person, but are metaphorically two different people. “Eclipse” is the body “Ruin” resides in. “Eclipse” is a dimensional code along with a chosen name, but above all, who Ruin wants to be perceived as. Eclipse was a curious animatronic who looked forward to life, but the birth of “Eclipse” was also the birth of “Ruin”.

Ruin is Eclipse’s GIVEN name - by his Creator. Not because of some DLC or separation from other characters [well it may used to be but not anymore…] but because Ruin is the name of The Virus that Eclipse is MADE of. This is what makes Eclipse DIFFERENT from other Eclipse’s, Sun’s, Moon’s, etc. He is a rare phenomenon in which Ruin becomes a world-ending catastrophe. He is a global disaster.

The Creator names Eclipse “Ruin” to highlight his existence as a world killer.

That would be like naming someone with Leukemia “Leuke” as a nickname.

Ruin’s virus was used to kill humanity in his world…and they succeeded.

So, when I heard this

“The virus memorized the path to my brain.” “It’s learning.” - Eclipse

I had to think... “is it the Virus that’s learning, or is it Ruin?”

Ruin rebuilt Eclipse. Ruin knows his anatomy, but doesn’t know the others.

Charlie didn’t attempt to “push!” the others…so the instant-regeneration is debatable now. It could be The Virus mutating…or…

The Virus is reconnecting with Ruin. Patient Zero. The Original Strain.

You know the TFA Decepticons aren’t an oppressed minority right? DJW even said their Rise Up rhetoric was a jab at how conservatives preach about Protecting Freedoms, and in the Allspark Almanac it’s explained they wanted to colonize other planets and the Autobots objected to that. The Decepticons were exiled for being military fascists.

I'd really, really love to know where I've ever said that on this blog, but since you seem very convinced that I did, let's look at the lore again. I don't feel like trawling the internet for this specific tweet/whatever form this DJW evidence has, so if you have that, I'd love to see it.

This timeline from the Allspark Almanac II pretty clearly states that the entire crux of Cybertronian society as a whole has rested on colonization, very early on in their species' history. Their "Golden Age" 8 billion stellar cycles ago is characterized by expansion that led to the colonization (!!!) of their solar system, further colonization only prevented by isolationism.

The earliest indications of the factional split that mark their history exist within the ruling class Guardians and the Malignus, defined as a "military caste". This implies that Golden Age Cybertron existed as a caste system. Which I would take a guess as not being particularly great.

And when we get to the first (again, quoted from the text here,) "military coup", it's executed by the political ancestors of the Autobots. Not a peep about the Malignus while that was going on.

This faction eventually becomes the Protectobots, and the most notable thing about them is that their leader attempted a Great Purge of "undesirable elements" from their society. I'd be hard pressed to think I'm wrong in thinking that's kinda fucked up. We're not given explicit reasons for this 17 million year war, but wars don't happen without someone to oppose someone else, and we get this in the form of the Destrons.

As for the point about colonization: my point is not that the Decepticon's motivations are not what we see in canon. Not at all. My point is that the Autobots have the same fucking motivation.

The Age of Expansion literally begins when the Autobots take power! It only ends when they butt heads with the Quintessons! Colonization, militarism, and facism, as you put it, are not traits that are unique to Decepticons.

And, according to this timeline and historical reasoning given, there is no mention of either faction's position on further expansion. The formation of the Decepticons is rooted in the divide between labor and military aligned Cybertronians. Both sections are equally responsible for the imperialistic efforts of their Empire/Commonwealth/whatever you want to call it, and make no mistake, this does continue into the present day! From both factions!

Assuming you're referring to my hefty lean towards the Cons in terms of character/exploration interest in the gist of your message, my goal here is not to elevate them to the same Good Guy Status the Autobots have by virtue of being the protagonists. I am fully and completely aware that they are a group of insane zealots that have rallied under a guy who was described by his own VA as an "elegant bully". Rather, I think what you're picking up on is my focus on the fact that the Autobots in Animated have more than their fair share of insidious shit going on.

They retain what is essentially a military dictatorship, with the position of Magnus being only theoretically beholden to the will of the Council and Guilds, as seen when Sentinel was able to fire Fortress Maximus with no approval from the Council and got nothing more than a disapproving sentence from Alpha Trion. We have no word on how their schooling institutions work, but all of it seems heavily centered on their version of the military they've concocted in the absence of warbuilds. And, just in case we forgot about Sentinel's proposed budget...

And that's not even getting into how fucked up Autobot culture is! They're unspeakably xenophobic, throw around propagandistic phrases like they're nothing ("Cogs in the Great Autobot Machine", anyone?), have an incredibly questionable justice system if Wasp is anything to go by, and this only seems to be getting worse at the end of Season 3, if Sentinel's curfews and public service announcements are anything to go by.

I'm not trying to make the Decepticons look better. I'm trying to make the Autobots look worse.

Hi I seen the ask about Solar poofing while Sun is pregnant on my dash but CONSIDER/HEAR THIS OUT on this rant: (this is REALLY long so I don't know if this'll cut off at some point but UUUHHH.)

Solar was the one pregnant. Sun (maybe Moon if he knew) goes apesht because Sun not only lost his partner, but his unborn child. Bonus points if Ruin knew. How would Ruin would react?

Would he halt his plan to save the kid and find another way to continue? Would he continue his plan anyway? Cause THAT would wreck Ruin more mentally. Sure, "GrEaToR GoOd" but there's a difference between an adult life who's experienced life than one who hasn't.

Welcome back,

At least once, you’ve looked up at the night sky and asked the same longstanding question we’ve all asked at least once, “Are we alone?” With all those points of light out there, we can’t be the only intelligent beings in the universe, right? There must be at least one technological civilization aside from us in the great vastness that we call the cosmos.

The astronomer Carl Sagan was famous for his quote in his book and film, Contact, “The universe is a pretty big place. If it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space.” Yet, for some of us, it’s incredibly hard to fathom that it’s just us in the vast unknown full of so many stars and a growing list of exoplanets being discovered on a near daily basis. However, despite all our endless searching, we’ve so far found no one.

So, what if you found out one day that it is just us? What if in the great cosmos, out of all the planets, stars, and galaxies, we are truly alone? How would you look at the universe? At humanity? At yourself? Would you believe it? Would you stop looking up at the stars entirely? Would you feel disappointed that we’re alone, that we’re truly it, or would you feel a sense of optimism knowing that the longstanding question has finally been answered once and for all?

The film, Ad Astra, showed Roy McBride played by Brad Pitt searching for his father, H. Clifford McBride, played by Tommy Lee Jones, the latter of whom was on a mission at Neptune searching for intelligent life outside of the solar system and in the rest of the universe. In the end, Brad finds his dad alone on the space station orbiting Neptune, only to discover that his father didn’t find anything. No intelligent life anywhere in the universe. He discovered that we’re it.

Throughout the film, Roy was struggling to reconnect with his father and his father was struggling to connect with the universe, and this only serves as an appropriate analogy for our own pursuit of answering the longstanding question. At one point when he’s on Mars, Roy asks himself regarding his father, “I don’t know if I hope to find him or be free of him.” In our own pursuit of trying to answer the longstanding question, what if it’s not that we’re hoping to find intelligent life, but that we’re trying to be free of knowing if there’s intelligent life?

In the end, when Clifford disappointingly tells his son that there’s no one else in the universe and that he’s failed in his mission, Roy doesn’t respond with anger or disappointment, but with optimism, telling his estranged father with a smile, “Dad, you haven’t. Now we know. We’re all we’ve got.” In that moment, it was as if the literal weight of the universe was lifted from Roy’s shoulders knowing that we’re it. After Roy unfortunately leaves his father to die in the void, Roy notes that he can’t wait for the day that his solitude ends, and the film ends with him reconnecting with his wife.

While Roy felt almost relieved to finally know the answer to the longstanding question, it’s important to ask if you’d feel the same way? Because, despite all the hopes of us finding intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, we must face the real possibility that we’re it. That’s it just us, and where do we go from here?

Are we alone in the universe?

Maybe we truly are.

Anmpile 18, 3 days post Feast of Laran 

Note: my calendar references here are based on interpretation of the Tabula Capuana, roughly placed on the Gregorian Calendar. As with all things Etruscan, this is not absolute. It is, additionally, only based on my specific practice, and is subject to change. I have chosen to use both n and m in the word "Anmpile", instead of a singular letter, as we find many Etruscan words which contain similar consonant clusters (Hercle, Vanth, Achivzr, Menrva, etc. - all examples of this certain linguistic phenomenon in the Rasenna language.) As usual, my choice of subject is based on the planetary weekday, corresponding generally to the Roman calendar (dies Solis). 

Usil, God(dess) of the Sun?

This post took me some hours (and several coffee breaks) to write. Large parts of that were research or just thinking about what to write. I try to put forth some kind of academic writing from an Etruscan pagan's point of view on this blog, but my own perfectionism and doubt certainly gets in the way. 

So let's dive in - not to necessarily infodump or propose an academic paper, but to read a mix of my research and thoughts on the Etruscan god Usil; as academia forms the basis of our worship as Etruscan pagans.

Usil is on the Liver of Piacenza, as are several other Etruscan deities (I mentioned Satre in yesterday's post!). He is next to Tiur/Tivr - and you will notice that I have placed two different spellings of this word next to each other. On the Liver, looking directly at it, with my rudimentary knowledge of the Etruscan alphabet, we can see "TIVR" - however, Tiur is an attested spelling as well from other inscriptions. Typically, I will write Tiur for ease of English pronunciation. Since I am referencing the Liver's specific spelling, I will write Tivr. 

Tivr and Usil are at the bottom, next to each other. Our current research concludes that Tivr is the moon god(dess), as well as a word for "month", and Usil is the sun god. (...Dess. Etruscan deities tend to lack permanent genders.) In my research, I did find this blog post: Paleoglot: Etruscan 'usil': It ain't the "sun" - which argues, that rather than the commonly agreed-upon definition, Usil means "dusk" due to this sentence: "Cis-um thesane uslane-c mlache." While I appreciate the research & argument, I have to disagree - Usil, to my linguist brain & knowledge, does appear to have connections to both Greek Helios and Roman Sol linguistically; it contains similar letters, as do other Etruscan equivalents - Menrva to Minerva, Uni to Juno - and a similar cadence.Thesan is occasionally attested as goddess of both the dawn and dusk - and this, along with her connection to Eos, leads me to conclude that this line is specifically about Thesan; not her presumed brother.  Additionally, the statues he does have clearly depict him as a solar deity. The one most often seen when discussing Usil is this: 

He has wings. He has a solar halo! And these spherical structures? Quoted as him holding fireballs. I think this absolutely supports his role as the god of the sun.

Another interesting thing to note is that Usil is cited as Catha's father in several places. This gets into the problem of who Catha is…

…and that's not a question with an easy answer. She's a goddess of Pyrgi. She has a connection to the underworld. 

But she might also be a lunar deity, or a solar deity, or even have a connection to childbirth. When equating her with a Greek deity, researchers choose Leucothea, a minor sea deity! 

So Usil, a male and sometimes female god of the sun, has a daughter who is a chthonic lunisolar goddess of childbirth and possibly the ocean. Unlike the Tivr & moon connections, this does not have a clear mythology we can put together - Helios and Selene are Titans of the sun and moon, brother and sister, along with Eos, Titaness of the dawn. Helios is the father of…Circe. And Phaethon. Circe's hardly a sea goddess - the closest she gets to that is turning sailor Odysseus' men into pigs and cursing the monster Scylla. She's not lunar, solar, chthonic, or a deity of childbirth either. So this thread falls apart as well - barring unverified personal gnosis and individual practice.

Phaethon is a demigod, a mortal demigod. He does not appear to have an Etruscan equivalent; which seems to be more rare as I dive into them. We have Heracles to Hercle, Theseus to These, Adonis to Atunis/Atune. Perhaps he's in some as-of-yet undiscovered tomb. But that's simply speculation. 

What do we conclude from this? Really, what do I conclude from this? Since, as I've stated, this is a blog for my own practices. 

Largely, that Usil is the god of a son, he has a sibling in Tivr, the moon god, a sister in Thesan, the dawn & dusk goddess, and a daughter in Catha, the…chthonic einalic lunisolar goddess of childbirth.  Writing these does help me form my own thoughts about the pantheon of aiser and where they all fit together - through reconstructions, Etruscan writing, comparisons to Greek and Roman mythology, other Italic languages, and my own theology. I don't think Catha is a Circe equivalent - though I couldn't find a specific Circe equivalence in my research. I do know the Etruscans had the stories of Odysseus, and I've seen at least one fresco of him defeating the Cyclops (cuclu) Polyphemus:

Again, that's a post for another time. Yet as with all things Etruscan, I'm left largely with more questions than answers, and less sure than when I started out. But I don't think that's a problem - learning is sacred. Ask Menrva. :-)

So, like all draconic beings, Loquat Wyvern Cookie was baked in the ancient times. Her creation matters not to her for the most part, as it simply chooses to exist on it's own terms. In the caverns of the Rosaceae Ravines, she wields not a singular nest, but a collection of places she or traveling parties can choose to stay. She anchors herself to the land, rather than a singular citadel within it.

It is this minor renownment that one day catches the attention of a Cookie-Scholar, one adorned in blues & golds and wielding a peculiar gem on a key-shaped staff. They introduce themself, and explain their presence. They are The Fount of Knowledge, and while all knowledge is available to them, most experiences are naught. They have arrived seeking out a trade. Knowledge for knowledge, cookie to draconic, draconic to cookie. Loquat Wyvern Cookie accepted the scholar's proposal.

And so, their dynamic held true through the ages. Knowledge for knowledge. Until, a few millennia later, the scholar had another offer to suggest. They wanted to lay the groundwork for an academy to all, one of knowledge & magic limitless, unparalleled. However, to know if they would be truely able, they wanted to test their teaching ability.

In exchange for a favor to be used...

The scholarly cookie wanted to teach the wyvern magic.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie, just the same as the proposal before, accepted.

It learned how to hover, to counter the fact her cookie-form could only glide. It learned how to minorly control lesser beings by wrapping them in her wings, giving her a means of control over those whom may inhabit her lands if they stray out of line. It learned how to use her own body as a solar-powered conduit, creating a full-blown AoE attack for herself.

The mere cookie taught a wyvern... magic.

And in exchange, Loquat Wyvern Cookie gained a friend. A less-mortal cookie who could stand with it through the trials of time. A grand scholar who could retort her riddles & rhymes with paradoxes & theories unparalleled. A being who, much like herself, had existed since the dawn of earthbread... ancient experiences unseen anywhere else. Loquat Wyvern Cookie gained a friend.

This is how their dynamic stayed for many millennia more. Until one day, it's friend seemed off-put by something. They had somethings more urgent to 'see-through' in the cookie-lands, and knew they wouldn't be able to continue their first agreement for awhile... Loquat Wyvern Cookie understood. Reassuring the cookie that, no matter an absence their friendship will wait for their return, and sent the scholar on their way.

And so, she remains in her home domain, seeing to it that she is the only eternal resident. She awaits the day her friend returns from their quest, unburdened by those ancient troubles. Perhaps they'll find a use for That Favor upon their return? Only time shall tell her fortune...

Loquat Wyvern Cookie is a Magic cookie in the Front position, with an emphasis on the Light element.

A normal attack has her simply swipe at the opponent with her hands.

Her skill, 'Solar Scatter', has her fly slightly above the battlefield, becoming immune to attacks & resistant to interrupting effects, and morphs into a small orb of light (which is actually just her wings reflecting sunlight) and reflects bullets of light toward all enemies. This applies a debuff called 'blinded', which temporarily prevents the opponent from landing critical hits.

The attack's unique property is that it uses Loquat Wyvern Cookie's Defense stat to calculate damage, rather than Attack. This is due to the fact that Loquat Wyvern's own body is used as a conduit for this attack, and is better utilized the more it can withstand.

Dmg: 350% of Loquat Wyvern's Defense, Light-Type damage, spread across all damage-able targets.

Ideal Toppings: Crit% (Draconic Juicy-Apple-Jelly Resonate-Toppings) or Defence+ (Hard-Walnut Classic-Toppings)

The 'Scholarly Cookie' from the backstory is Shadow Milk Cookie before corruption, serving as Loquat Wyvern Cookie's respective cookie-friend that all the dragons tend to have in Cookie Run lore. (Pitaya Dragon has Mala Sauce, Ananas Dragon has Mango, Lotus Dragon has Hydrangea, ect)

As directly shown in quotes, Loquat Wyvern Cookie is a fan of riddles, rhymes, & puzzles. Both as a giver, and a receiver. She's known to give riddles rather than clear answers, and even phrase her own questions into rhymes, even if that makes it harder for her to gain an answer.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie has a similar speech quirk to Pitaya Dragon Cookie, drawing out S syllables. The difference between them is how and where these happen. Pitaya will draw out all found Ss in words, a noticable drawl/hiss being heard. Loquat Wyvern Cookie, on the other hand, only slightly draws out the Ss, and only if the S is one of the last 2 letters in a word. Still similar to a hiss, but much less noticeable.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie's voice-claim is Shara Kirby, the same voice-actor for Nutmeg Tiger Cookie.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie, dispite being a wyvern, would still be in the Dragon rarity class. This is mainly mentioned due to Snapdragon Cookie being of Special rarity instead.

As shown in their battle information, Loquat Wyvern Cookie would be able to access Draconic Resonate-Toppings, but not Truthful Resonate-Toppings.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie, dispite major ties to The Fount of Knowledge (Shadow Milk Cookie before corruption), it knows nothing of the other Beasts, and little of the Soul Jams. It's only modern knowledge comes from cookies traveling through her lands in passing, and even then, it's never bothered to try and dive deeper into that topic. It just hasn't interested her yet.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie is a Lawful-Neutral character to a fault. It is generally uninterested for any morals at play, only ethics. As shown in stories like The Legend Of The Red Dragon, draconic beings despise contract-benders. Yet I headcannon are also hypocritical, and will do anything to get out of a contract. Loquat Wyvern Cookie breaks this norm of distrust. A deal is a deal. Which is why The Favor she owes is so meaningful. No matter what is asked of her, if the favor is cashed in, it will obey.

Loquat Wyvern Cookie uses She/It pronouns! And Idenifies as a triple AAA battery- I MEAN Aromantic, Ase×ual, Agender. It just prefers feminine stylings over masculine dispite displaying herself as genderless just like the other dragons. (and, fun fact, every time I've asked someone to guess her pronouns, they've either forgotten the it, or guessed he/they. I've created the true essence of a Cookie Run Character. GenderWhatThat)

The crystal usually found in dragon-cookie designs can be found dangling from her hair. One half is a smooth teardrop shape, and the other half a sharp kite cut. Both sides in the same teal-blue as her eyes. Furthermore, in the same way the other dragons have titles (The Greenish-Red Dragon, The Great Golden Dragon, The Blue Dragon, The Violet Dragon, & The Ivory Dragon) Loquat Wyvern Cookie is referred to as The Copper Wyvern. Which explains the blue accents.

A Brief History of Solarpunk

There’s a full history of it linked below, but basically, around 2008 a blog named Republic of the Bees published the post, “From Steampunk to Solarpunk”, which conceptualized solarpunk as a literary genre inspired by steampunk. There were a few articles and works here and there, but it gained more steam, or should I say solar, with Miss Olivia Louise’s Tumblr post in 2014, establishing some of the aesthetics of solarpunk. Quote:

“A world in which children grow up being taught about building electronic tech as well as food gardening and other skills, and people have come back around to appreciating artisans and craftspeople, from stonemasons and smithies, to dress makers and jewelers, and everyone in between.”

Her post was later referenced by Adam Flynn, in his Notes Toward A Manifesto in late 2014. He describes the difficulty of being a futurist under 30, watching the world dive down the path of cyberpunk, with the ever present existential threat of climate change. Solarpunk, to him, is the only alternative to denial or despair. It rejects the individualistic, unsustainable approaches of some futurists, who refuse to acknowledge the limits of energy on our Earth. Solarpunk is about “ingenuity, generativity, independence, and community.” It’s suffixed by punk because it opposes our existing world. It creates local resilience, authorities be damned, from rooftop solar to guerilla gardening. Finally, a group called The Solarpunk Community published Un Manifiesto Solarpunk in 2019. It’s a short article, written in Spanish, that basically reiterates some of the previous ideas, albeit more succinctly.

As for my relationship with solarpunk, I’ve been into it for a pretty long time. I can’t remember exactly when I first heard about it, but it was probably on Tumblr. It was also on Tumblr where I was first introduced to the basics of revolutionary and progressive politics.

anyway I love it bc *gestures at the recurring motifs of this blog* well. you know me lmao. But also it speaks to that like. deep trust & rapport that Q & Bond have developed between them. literally this is working dog & his handler behavior. There's another fic I can't remember off the top of my head but it has a moment when Q is. trying to hack sth or other? And Bond wants them to leave. But Q tells him wait, and Bond pov narration has sth like about how Q is using that voice he on comms which means he's working with additional intel than Bond has so Bond has to trust his Quartermaster's judgment on this.

There's also another fic where they're doing like a carnival shooting game and they're p evenly matched, and then Q casually drops Bond's code word to mean danger which breaks Bond's focus on the game lol..
