I've suddenly noticed that I've never heard of an app that performs the same function as a dial-up modem. One that uses the phone app to generate a data stream with the Internet.

A quick search suggests I'm neither missing something obvious, nor the first person to think of this, so why no app? Artificial technical limitations? Actual technical limitations? Obscure contract bullshit?

De-aged and injured Danny

Danny is found out by his parents. They don't take it well.

Clockwork is very upset about this, because he'd gambled on almost-certain odds of them being chill about it. So now he has to run damage-control before this very unlikely time-line goes even further off the deep end.

Unfortunately, Danny needs to be in the living world, not the Infinite Realms. Which means that Clockwork needs to put Danny somewhere safe. Somewhere where nobody will find him.

And double-unfortunately, the only place that remotely fits this bill is to contact Lady Gotham.

City-spirits aren't... super-reliable. They're Neverborns who very very rarely consider "humanoid shapes" worth figuring out. So they just kind of... exist. An ectoplasmic presence that's undeniable, but also extremely difficult to have a conversation with.

Thankfully, Lady Gotham is (for all of her... quirks) generally very hero-aligned. Which is why she's the best one to ask for sanctuary for Danny.

Danny who Clockwork de-aged as a way to "limit his injuries" of being vivisected.

Lady Gotham agrees, but she only has one "safe place" to put him. And her Knight is a little bit too paranoid for her to just dump an injured child in his lair, without causing more trouble than it's worth.

But it's hardly a difficult thing, to arrange a few things, and place Danny in a spot where his injuries will cause her Knight to hurry to his aid.

Such as... in a room filled with medical equipment, right next door to where Joker has just lost a fight with Batman.

Things escalate somewhat when Batman finds him and makes some assumptions about what Joker has been up to. Tempers run a bit high, someone loses a few extra teeth, someone else has to physically drag Bruce off Joker's body before he beats him to death, and the Joker considers the whole thing a grand old laugh (he has no idea what's going on, but it sure pissed off Batty, and that's always a treat).

Of course, the Batfam has to actually investigate the scene, evacuate Danny, give Danny medical aid, and then also ask Danny about what happened.

Danny wakes up and is very confused about a lot of things.

He's no longer being vivisected. Great. Love that part.

He's somewhere he doesn't recognize (the Batcave). Could be good, could be bad. At least the bed is pretty nice?

He's very small. This feels like a personal attack. He might not have gotten a good growth-spurt yet, but taking away what he had is cruel and unusual.

And there's a weirdo in an... armored bat-costume? Who isn't setting off his ghost-sense? What the hell kind of "normal" person wears something like that?

Still, Danny does answer the questions that Batman asks him, because... well, there's a green post-it-note in his pocket that says he shouldn't lie.

So Danny tells Batman about his parents cutting him up "for science". And Batman hears that the Joker somehow managed to hire two mad scientists who (upon the tiniest bit of suggestion from the Joker, who'd definitely seen the similarities between Danny and Jason and thought it would be a "funny prank") had leapt at the opportunity to vivisect their own son.

This is definitely worrying, because from the phrasing, they'd been "wanting to do it for a long time". And considering Danny's slow heartbeat and low body-temperature? They'd been wanting to do it because he was a meta.

So, somewhere out there (the Bats had found no trace of the two) were two deranged lunatics who wanted to cut open metas to "see how they worked".

Batman does the very reasonable thing and actually contacts the rest of the Justice League with their descriptions, just in case they'd managed to leave Gotham before the Bats had tracked them down.

yall are about to piss me off by not having any PASSING basic knowledge of the way the u.s. military manipulates its recruits into joining by typing up one of your uninformed, unresearched, unempathetic, individualistic, unbelievably annoying posts about how 100% of the people in the military ended up there because they just Love America So Damn Much! they're extremely mature and informed at time of recruitment, they can totally leave anytime they want, they totally had tons of other avenues in life they could've taken, there was no rush at all to get income as fast as possible, and everyone in the military also totally is part of the combat divisions and personally enjoys being IN the military very much, big believers of violence. everyone in the military is shooting guns all day, that's how that works. they LOVE BLOODSHED. also I love the "amewicans haha" twang to this type of shit because you're actually TOTALLY stealing our Thing, which is turning systemic issues into Individual Issues. Instead of talking about the powers that be, it's so Personal Choice up in here. It's, "well you shouldn't have done it then. I totally wouldn't because I know better." you don't wanna talk about the military industrial complex as a whole, and you don't want to talk about recruiters, you just want to pin the blame on Specific Individual People one-by-one, as if they're responsible for the system that they're being ground up in. someone was in the military? bad person, no matter what. it's easier to believe that, I guess, than to acknowledge that Normal People (with high school educations) are manipulated and incentivized into joining a system that is Bad. at like age 18. but yeah no that 18 year old should have just been smarter lol haha anyway here are some screenshots for no particular reason

side note this reply of someone going "umm just get loans and go into a high paying field it's easy XD" as a direct response to someone trying to explain how most americans joining the military are being funneled in that direction out of a need for money.

and another person who Decided that americans join the military just CLENCHING their teeth thinking of other people, and not thinking completely selfishly about their own selves and their own income/housing/healthcare.

Prompt 121

There’s several de-aged Danny prompts, but what about de-aged Jazz. Most agree she’s very liminal after all, so who's to say ghost things won’t affect her too? 

So imagine with me, Jazz gets hit with something, and she is now child; maybe even baby. Danny panics, flees with his emergency bag alongside the other three in Team Phantom. So now they’re four teens with a very small child on the run. Four teens and a small child who have run into several heroes. 

Heroes who are all very concerned.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm too harsh with making Hunter a little bit dumb and oblivious.

And then I rewatched episode one, and he asks, "Don't you have a family somewhere? Parents?"

And Omega says "Parents?" as if that's the stupidest thing she's ever heard and he's the dumbest motherfucker she's ever met.

And I can rest assured my headcanon of himbo Hunter is correct.

This has been the first week in which I have felt properly on holiday. I got to spend part of my week eating focaccia and chilling with @ben-learns-smth, which was the absolute highlight of my month. So much serotonine and joy for my brain. And after half a day in the car I am now on holiday with my parents. We are staying in a new place we have never been to, and tho the actual place we are in was quite disappointing I am excited for all the exploration we can do around here. Hopefully it won't be too hot to visit everywhere I'd like to go to, but we'll see. For now I am just chilling with my book eating berries and I could never complain about that.

Dc x Dp Prompt #11: High Tech Chastity Belt

I can’t remember where I saw this, but it just popped into my head and I immediately had to get it out.

I remember reading something and I can’t remember if it was actually pitch pearl or just Danny pretending he was dating Phantom to avoid an identity reveal but Jack and Maddie slap the specter deflector on him to keep Phantom away.

Word gets out and a lot of people are not pleased that Jack and Maddie have essentially placed their son in what is functioning as a high tech chastity belt.

And it made me think: in a dp x dc cross over would the same concept work on Jason(or some other character), assuming we make him at least partly ghostly/liminal? How would this situation come about? Who put the belt on whom and why? (It’d be funny if it was Bruce through a misunderstanding ) How affective would it be? Is this better for angst or comedy? (I vote comedy)

Lingering questions, 3 months after the Bad Batch series finale

1. Who are these people in the blue pods? Because they look distinctly like Fett clones to me. What happened to them?

2. What's this room, and what are the specimens being kept in the main storage container Hemlock opens up for Palpatine? If it's a bunch of clones (one of whom may eventually turn into Snoke), why didn't they show the audience, why the secrecy about this?

3. What were Hemlock's plans for Crosshair?? I just have a really hard time accepting that his plans involved "Uhhh... new and maybe improved brainwashing! We may have just gone through at least 5 months of failed attempts, but if at first you don't succeed, try the same plan again!"

4. What's going on in this second Tantiss facility? Were there more prisoners here? Did Echo happen to check here before leaving Tantiss? (Is Tech still here in stasis, waiting to be found? Does Tarkin relocate him when the facility is shut down?)

5. Why make this character Scorch? People (like me) who don't/didn't know who Scorch was didn't care about his inclusion and didn't become fans, and people who were already Scorch fans seemed to be almost universally disappointed by his characterization here.

6. Who's this? As in, what's this clone's backstory? What did he do to be imprisoned on Tantiss and turned into an assassin? Why did he hold such a grudge against Crosshair? If he was just supposed to be some reg that we don't care about, why include him in a show that emphasizes caring about the fate of all the clones? And if we weren't supposed to care enough about him to want more backstory/know more about him, why the emphasis on him in the first place? Why use Tech as one of the red herrings for his identity? Why keep him masked after his death? (I am 100% convinced there were massive season 3 rewrites and CX2 was one of the plot lines that got significantly changed.)

7. So, when is Tech going to come back: pre-epilogue during a clone rebellion show, or post-epilogue during an Omega/Rebellion show?

There’s still so much I want to know about the Bad Batch that the show hasn’t told us like what was it like on Kamino when they were cadets? What was their first mission? How did Hunter become the leader? How did Wrecker get his scar? How old was Wrecker when he got his scar? How did Hunter and Crosshair get their tattoos? Do Hunters tattoos actually continue on his left side with the rib cage, etc. or is that a fanon thing? Are Hunters enhanced skills just limited to seeing the electromagnetic currents of things? How does that affect him? There’s just still so much I want to know!!!
