Tech frowned, eyes tracking Crosshair as he made his way down the crushed shell and rock path that lead up from the main lane to Tech and Phee's small home. "I believe so."

"You believe so?" Phee rubbed at her eyes. She'd just come out of the bedroom from an impromptu nap, one of the many signs of the impending Situation. "You mean you didn't tell him?"

Tech played back the conversation he'd just had with his brother. "It didn't come up. But I'm sure Hunter has related it to them."

Phee arched an eyebrow. "You think Hunter is gonna break that news to your brothers."

It was a fair question. And in reality if Hunter did tell them, it would no doubt be on accident. So Tech really did need to tell them.

"I'll tell them tomorrow," he said, moving into the kitchen. "Did you need anything to drink or eat?"

"Some juice, please. I don't think I can handle anything else." Phee moved into the living room and sat down. "Doesn't have to be on a specific day. But you gotta tell them sooner or later."

Later did, in fact, turn out to be sooner, as not two hours had passed before Crosshair appeared at the door. The moment Tech opened it, he said, "Pregnant?" through gritted teeth. Fortunately, Phee had gone into the back room to nap again.

"No, I am not," Tech said. "Phee is." Crosshasir looked close to tackling him, so Tech continued, "I take it Hunter said something."

"Yes, he did. So why does he get to know and we don't?"

Tech told himself to be patient, that Crosshair had always been irritated at finding things out after others. "I didn't tell him first, he noticed first."

"Noticed," Crosshair repeated, eyes narrowing.

"Yes."

"You mean he could," Crosshair made a face, "hear it."

"Or detect the temperature change in her body. This is also how I knew."

Anger became confusion tinged with surprise. "…you measure her body temperature?"

"Just out of curiosity. We've not known many natural born humans for long periods of time and--"

Crosshair held up a hand. "No, no. Stop explaining, you're just making it worse."
