reasons I need another post finale adventuring party with the full cast
-lou’s opinions On Everything. i need them (also tease us with that green hunter sequel (the green hunted??))
-emily talking about her backstory/vision for chirp!! i have so much curiosity about chirp, there was a lot hinted at but left unexplored there
-aabria and oscar digging into the ruewuvvy backstory. and just. anything about how that developed into what it was. every time aabria or oscar talks about wuvvy and rue i want to drag some nice table bread through the conversation soak it up and consume it.
-why did rue break up the engagement oscar 👀
-honestly i just want a season 2 to get into all the npcs aabria had locked and loaded, the fallout of the home of craft and unseelie court joining forces, etc etc. but also just wanna hear this lovely group talk about this story more cause!!! i’m still in it deep!

Good news. Did some decent progress on What’s Up Danger so you guys will finally get fed this Wednesday! Bad news, the quality might not be the best since I’m fasting while writing it oTL
Anyways, here are some Batfam w/ Cat Villain! Reader moments/snippets.
TW YANDERE AND MENTION OF NONCON/SOMNO
Both Jason and Reader’s first words to each other were, “What the fuck.”
Reader referring to Jason being a giant, and violent asf esp in comparison to Dick. While Jason was confused at his heart beating so fast and mildly crushing on you while you were fighting.
Bonus points: You guys did the spiderman point meme.
You have the biggest age gap with Dick. I headcannon the boys to be close in age so there wouldn’t be any not so good implications when it comes to relationships, but it’s almost unavoidable unless Batman switches sidekicks every year or so. (You are younger than Jason but older than Tim)
But that is also another reason why you two didn’t click as well as you did with Jason
You’d often make jokes or use slang and Dick would just be “???” He tried his best though.
On the reverse side of things, and like I mention before Tim and you got along too well as friends. He’s one of the few people you could gush to about literally any fandom and he somehow (through stalking your searches and literally every gadget/appliance you owned) knew everything about it already.
You two have written several theses on fellow vigilantes and villains (mostly ‘dumb’ ones like who has the best cake based on so and so criteria)
Damian is the best when it comes to bantering with you mid-fight. It’s the combined years of sass and assassin training. Went from plain insults to whole ass (not so) subtly being horny when you beat each other down.
He’s also the worst (best?) when it comes to your nicknames. He insists that you two use it on each other. Some exclusive while others he’s usually fine hearing from other mouths.
There was one point in time where you were called Kitten while the boys forced/bribed you to call them Daddy
Tim and Jason have tattoos of you/related to you.
For Jason it’s your name with a few paw prints, and for Tim it’s when he first fought you (and got his ass whooped)
After Jason came back and revealed himself to you, he tattooed the scratch marks you left him on his back after doing the deed.
Damian secretly practices doing henna so he can draw on you during your “wedding” since he doesn’t want anyone touching you. Sort of defeats the purpose, but go off king.
Being the thorough guy he is, he uses lab equipment to make his own blends.
Bruce? Bruce hates your ass. Sometimes it’s in a hatefuckey way but most of the time he blames you for corrupting his kids.
So he corrupted you in turn.
I feel like he gets off to cucking them honestly (blame that one comic) but if Reader is AFAB I wouldn’t be surprised if he impregnated them.
He’s a softie at heart when it comes to you though, courtesy of your similarities with Selina.
Speaking of, Talia adores you.
Like if there was anyone she would want with her son it was you.
She thinks the fact that you haven’t been put behind bars is a testament to your skill, and after getting over your similarity to her “rival in love” she would actively get you to be with her son.
Eventually she realizes she loves you more than Bruce and well, that’s a story for another fic.
You have at least a dozen trackers on you at all times.
Most of them you’ve ingested and pooped out.
It’s mostly Tim of course. But the duty of actually feeding you that stuff usually goes to Dick.
Dick has uh- somnophillia’ed you a fair bit after the break up.
He really, and I mean really likes to watch you sleep.
It reminds him of those ‘catnaps’ you’d take while watching over the Titans.
There would be times where he’d just be in a daze/in autopilot for hours reminiscing about your past together
His favorite memories to go back to were your first fight together, first kiss, and times under the sheets, and a date you guys had before in a festival/circus.
He never takes the antidote for Poison Ivy’s sex pollen and always comes to you for it, regardless of his or your relationship status.
Tim has at least a million typewritten chats with AI you, and around a few hundred hours of voice chats.
You did eventually take his virginity.
He came as soon as he was inside you/you were inside him.
You have been offered to be a part of the bat crew or a vigilante. But,
you massacred many after Jason’s supposed death and feel too guilty to call yourself anything other than a villain.
Chokers with bells. It’s a popular gift to give you. Especially ones that are custom made with expensive ass materials and engraving.
Sometimes Tim just gives you weapons.
Alfred is your best source of blackmail material.
You’ve actively tried cursing him (with immortality). You love the man.
He’s secretly the president of your official fanclub/fansite but you didn’t hear that from me.
You fight a lot with Damian’s pets. Like in a way that you turn into a literal cat and hiss at them.
And last but not least, you’re vv close with every member of the Teen Titans (besties with Rachel and Garfield)
NOT PROOFREAD!!!

I know that a lot of critics criticize the Obi-wan series for whatever reason- what are your thoughts on that?
I didn't read a single critic's review of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, there was no point to it. None of what critics have to say could possibly have measured up to the commentary I was seeing on my dash, it would have been an exercise in the blandest commentary I could possibly have sought out, meanwhile my friends are writing entire theses at 4am because they cared so deeply and were brilliant at what they do, including five pages of citations and references and echoes from the original canon pulled out on the spot because they know the material. And if a critic hated the show, then I don't care what they had to say then, either. My engagement in fandom is centered on what "people tumblr user gffa thinks are cool" have to say, that's all I'm here for. If a critic wants to criticize the show, what do I gain from interacting with it? Something that frustrates me and any rebuttal I make isn't even going to reach them? Why do that to myself? I'll just be annoyed and I don't want to spend my time being annoyed, I want to read a comic and clutch my chest about how Obi-Wan says it's fine that Anakin stumbled in his training, that the important thing was that he was okay and they'd get up and try again!

You've talked a bit before about genre and genre-expectations. If you have the time/inclination, could you talk a bit about what classifies something as horror? More specifically, what makes Candela Obscura fall into the category of horror?
As a bit of background: I am a Travis-level scaredy-cat, but I love the supernatural - ghost stories, monsters, superstitions. I tend to rely a lot on genre labels to help me differentiate, and media labelled "horror" is pretty generally a no go. I starting watching Candela out of curiosity because I'd heard great things about the characters in chapter two, and was fully prepared to have to nope out. Instead I found that it sat comfortably within my "supernatural" bubble of tolerance, and I absolutely loved it! Obviously a person's tolerance for what is "scary" is deeply individualistic, but its got me wondering what exactly classifies something as horror? (and whether there is other media similar to candela that I am missing out on because my genre expectations are skewed)
So...genre boundaries are all very permeable and take a on very "I'll know it when I see it" quality when you get to the edges. There's a poll about horror tolerance going around right now and I actually found it completely unusable because, for example, all three of Jordan Peele's films are considered horror, and while I consider myself also kind of skittish, I loved Get Out and Nope whereas the premise of Us fundamentally is on my personal "absolutely cannot" list. Basically: defining horror is tough (though I'll make an attempt, with the understanding that I am the most amateur and there are actual media studies folks in the fandom who might be a better bet) but also a lot of people, myself included, who consider themselves bad at "horror" often, as you say, actually have a very specific personal list of tolerances and plenty of horror is fine for them (and plenty of non-horror might not be!) Basically this is a great question and multiple people out there are writing their PhD theses attempting to answer it, and they probably have different answers, is what I'm saying. I also, in looking up horror on Wikipedia in order to see what that definition is, found that it defines the genre differently for literature vs. film. Short answer: no one fucking knows; scary shit.
I think horror is most generally works that are intended to build a sense of fear or dread, and I recall (possibly incorrectly) someone on a podcast talking about writing define the difference between a thriller and a horror movie is whether the protagonist succeeds; I'd modify that to say "whether they succeed without a great cost (thriller) or whether the price of success possibly outweighs the win (horror)."
Anyway, I do have a list of horror subgenres here that speaks the language of TTRPGs, namely Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, and I find that horror subgenres are more helpful signposts than just the "horror" label, and I suspect you may find the same as well. I'm not going to run through them all, but, for example, "Ghost Stories" and "Dark Fantasy" are two of them, and those never bothered me and it sounds like you like those! Candela covers a lot of ground - elements of body horror, gothic horror, cosmic/eldritch horror, and occult detective stories, but it is absolutely in the supernatural realm. It is worth noting that a lot of not explicitly horror shows often dip into horror and I (and possibly you) are fine with it. The CR main campaign and D&D in general absolutely has horror elements. I only watched the Nine and Ten seasons of modern-era Doctor Who but that absolutely has episodes that are basically straight up horror (Midnight? Silence in the Library? Don't Blink? Even though, famously, everyone lives in that one set during WWII, the "are you my mummy" line is chilling.) Again: genre/subgenre lines are very permeable and hard to use as signposts.
What has been most helpful to me in finding horror works I can personally enjoy is understanding what I can't do. I don't mind blood and gore but I don't want that to be the point (I don't think I'm so much upset by slasher films so much as don't enjoy them) and I don't want to watch torture porn (which is pretty much exclusively within the realm of horror film, not literature). I have a lot of trouble with zombie films but a lone zombie in a D&D game is fine. The premise of a film like The Thing is intellectually fascinating to me but the idea that you can't trust anyone or anything is too unsettling...although also that was kind of the premise of the monsters of Candela Chapter 2 and I thought that slapped. Psychological horror is case by case; folk horror can be great or can mess me up; like Marisha I flat out don't do narrow tunnels in caves and I especially don't do caves with water in them. Cosmic/Eldritch, dark fantasy, and gothic horror are all almost always okay or if they're not it's because they take place in a water-filled cave. Honestly, I don't have a good answer of how to find things but I use subgenre, talking to people you know who watched the film/saw the show in question, and understanding your own personal issues - whether they're genuine triggers or just "this will upset me and I don't find it fun." I will say a lot of the tropes within horror that bother me bother me out of horror; the cave diving, for example, is part of a general hard line I have; I don't like zombie comedies even though horror-comedy can mitigate other issues (eg: I liked Cocaine Bear even though it's basically a slasher film with a bear because it's pretty funny).
Another really big distinction for me that might be true for you: audio horror, literary horror, and actual play horror (even if filmed), where the visuals are limited or only described, is much easier for me than visual horror. I don't know if that's the same for you, but it's very true for me.
Some other similar media I can personally recommend as someone who I suspect has similar broad preferences re: horror:
Of the Candela touchstones listed, will personally vouch for V. E. Schwab's Darker Shade of Magic series (dark fantasy books, wouldn't even classify as horror), Frankenstein (the book); Crimson Peak (gothic horror/ghost story film; I recall it having a lot of blood but not gore but I saw it in theaters so it's been a while); Penny Dreadful (is it good? debatable. Is it fun? absolutely.)
The New Weird genre is often thrown around and I don't think Candela per se falls into it, but it's certainly the same vibe of horror/fantasy crossovers that don't always fit into one or the other. Anyway: I have brought up the Silt Verses, which is a podcast solidly in that genre which I think I would not enjoy as a film but greatly enjoy as a podcast.
The Southern Reach Trilogy is...not Candela in vibes exactly but I just think everyone should read it, and it is in that weird horror-inflected sf genre space.
Twin Peaks and the X-Files which are very different stories in some ways, but are also investigations of horrors in a world where most people don't believe in that, and Spenser says his cinematic description style is using some of that lexicon, notably from the X-Files' cold opens. (The X-Files is very long and I only watched a few seasons but also while there is an overarching plot, from what I recall it's kind of ridiculous so you can bounce around; Twin Peaks is worth the watch through though I never watched anything after the original series).
I'm not going to lie, I listened to all of Alice Isn't Dead, which was a horror podcast from the Night Vale team, because the actress was so good, but the plot never totally clicked for me, but worth checking out. More worth checking out, while definitely New Weird and not horror, is Within the Wires, which I mentioned before, if you find the concept of Newfaire interesting on a sociocultural level. I am going to make a shitpost about Within the Wires in a second so just look at that. I also never finished Old Gods of Appalachia, but if you liked the Candela playlist Spenser and Rowan put out and are interested in the Bridleborne Mountains region/vibe with folk horror, it was pretty good; I just found it hard to binge, personally, and I listen to so many fucking podcasts it fell by the wayside.
Hope this helps!

modern au hsr. composer!dan heng x soloist!gn!reader.
by popular opinion aka me and 12 other people i’m gonna write this concept for dan heng kinda basing on his en va in terms of music production lol:
main idea: modern au + reincarnation au (slapping this on every xianzhou character damn) + college au + musician au formatted into movements like many musical works, usually with 3 or 4. it’s possible to have more than that.
inspo: cloud atlas, 10ish yrs of playing piano, and minoring in music. i was gonna write this for another fandom until i deactivated from there lmaooo.
past lives commonly featured reader who loves to sing and dan heng who’s talented at composing. dh fell in love with reader’s voice that he promised that he’ll make a song for them as a form of a love letter. it was never finished, rather each of his past lives have a piece of the composition in his mind. present!dh has them all from his dreams, feeling inspired to put it together like puzzle pieces for his theses.
present!reader’s a child prodigy and a winner of a televised talent show competition, so like similar to jackie evancho from agt if you know who she is. their solo career ended by a certain incident and stopped singing altogether. the grief and trauma caused them to be scared of getting back into it. the avoidance caused them to move to another city to start over and get away from that life, only for dan heng to unknowingly pull them back into it. and something feels oddly familiar about him that they can’t figure out.

It’s been a few short weeks, Stark Tower was running high and low with noise.
New York City lights in contacts to the skyline views that the home brought to the world. Voices from the young heroes were softly heard. You could hear Liane and her friends screaming over the sound of the tv wired up in the living room and the hallways were being used as a reminder of how huge the building truly was.
But underneath the main lounge floor, past the elevator doors and across the narrow halls stood the tapping of nails against a keyboard humming a soft tune, that was played earlier from the afternoon radio. Files surrounding her desk as she spun in the chair for a while, as it reminded her of older memories at The Mansion’s lab.
The laughs and the louder bickering over bullshit that didn’t matter but it did at the time. Trinkets and posters surrounded the lab back then, it still does now but as many as Stark Tower.
She missed it, weather she liked to admit it or not.
And she wasn’t the only one.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft knocking that belonged to a tall blonde with fluffy hair, sweatpants and a baby blue t-shirt, carrying two mugs of warm hot chocolate. She nodded, inviting him into the room as he took a seat near the empty chair, gently placing the mug into her palms as she took a peek noticing a few tiny marshmallows.
She hummed as she took a delightful sip of the warm drink.
He noticed she wasn’t upstairs for a while now. Something that never bothered him, he’s used to his creative minds spending longer than expected in the lab tinkering. However having seen what he would assume the worse of it from Tony in 2010, noticing his eyes bloodshot and the lights making his body appear weak, he made it a promise to watch the time to bring whoever was in the lab to bed.
Tonight it was Elizabeth.
She’s a Stark. So he can’t stop her being in a lab to invent something, since that’s one of places she shined. Aside from the stage of course. He have noticed her getting a new scope of the world, having been gone under the ice for a while now. He knew she had her own ways of doing things, as she handled the transition better than expected but it had him worried.
Does she believe that she’s not doing enough?
He has been there himself plenty of times, where he feels useless and annoyed around everyone but he never showed it. Everything phases him, just not exactly his face. With one swift look at her vulnerable face, the tired eyes and gentle smile that could light up the stars, he knew.
He has been around theses people long enough to not know. Especially since JARVIS tend to be the house’s eyes and ears, it all added up to this point and he wasn’t upset about it
Elizabeth’s eyes analyzed his facial expressions, noticing the small bags under his eyes and the way his shoulders dropped ever so slightly. He smiled softly at her, placing the mug of hot chocolate that was in his hand onto the desk. All she wanted was to rest her head on his shoulder and hear his smooth southern drawl as he hummed a old song while she drifted to sleep.
But she wonder, if she left asleep and let herself take a breath, then that would mean her inventions would be unfinished. Her work would’ve not been done and the studies she has been doing lately would have left aside. It was silly to think she was putting all this unnecessary work onto herself when she doesn’t need it but it made her feel like she was doing something.
Then it clicked.
“How long have you know?” She asked, running her fingers crossed the side of the mug
“A month or so.” He replied, playing with the fabric of his sweatpants.
“I never told you.”
“Jarvis told me a less than month ago.”
“No…”
“We all just wanted you home.”
She sighed, “You should have told me.”
“I’m not sorry.” He added, with a honest smile.
He smiled placing a hand on her knee and said, “I knew you’ll work until the idea was done.”
“The idea’s not done.” She replied, placing a hand over his and sighed.
“But you’re tired and deserve a chance to be with our son.”
“He’s Howard’s son, I’m just his overprotective aunt.”
“We both know your more than that to him. You don’t need to prove anything, you said it yourself years ago.”
“I know…um but still my work, my life. I just want to make sure I’m worth all of it and I’m leaving a legacy behind..”
He sighs and smiled, “Just look around and you’ll see the difference you made.”
“We made.” She corrected him with a smile.
The two chuckled soft at that.
Nonetheless, Jason continued, “Look around at how lucky we are, just to be alive right now is a miracle. And that’s saying a lot knowing what we’ve been through.”
“Will you relish being a silly inventor’s spouse?” She added, as it sounded like a question, “Somewhat dependent, not about to provide for our life? It’s stupid I know, we’re in a good place but it feels like the roles are reversed and i don’t know why..I don’t feel as independent yet. I mean, we used to have Jarvis and Ana to help us. Peggy too! And now we’re sorta alone at this..”
“It’s not easy, it never was but we can handle it. And that not true, you’re more than confident and independent. Give it time.”
“How much time? How did you do it? Let’s face it, I’m here now, I have been awaken from the ice for a considerable period of time, but it still feels odd. We both has been working for a long time and sometimes it felt like we can’t breath again because of it. The world is changing a lot more than expected…so do you still relish all of this?”
“Your just tired and a little vulnerable right now, honey. It’s okay, no rush here. But to answer your question, yes, I do. I also relish you someday being my wife. Just look around, look at where you are. Look at where you started..the fact that you’re alive is a miracle. Just stay alive, that would be enough.”
She smiled hearing those words, “Yeah. I guess I am tired…and a little worried, I just want to be the best version I can be.”
“You already you.” He added with a chuckle, “Our child shares a fraction of your smile and dare I say, a fragment of your mind just as much as he does Howard!”
“Oh good god he’s smarter than I thought!”
“And his ego too. I love him but damn, it’s wild.”
“Oh yeah, he’s more than enough to make a difference in the world. We’re safe then.”
They both smiled and laughed harder than expected knowing how many godchildren Tony gave them. So look out world, that would be enough.
He looped a finger underneath her chin, “Look, I don’t pretend to know the challenges you’re facing. The worlds you keep erasing and creating in your mind. Your reading more than i do when it comes to understand everything we can.”
“Mhmm! It’s hard moving from one era to another.” She admits with a light chuckle, “..sometimes I don’t know how we’ve done it for so long and haven’t driven ourselves mad.”
“I know...but I’m not as afraid as I should. I know who I married. So long as we all come home at the end of the day..”
“That would be enough. Uh, about our legacy and the money?”
“Liz.”
“Jason. I’m serious.”
“We already are creating one and we already have money. If I could grant you peace of mind, let us inside your heart…”
Those words shut her up, as her eyes watered a bit understanding everything he meant. That they are supposed to be made of steel but it takes the people you love to make it a strong material.
And truth be told, she told him those same words years ago. It wasn’t as gentle, heartfelt and darling as she said in her own way, but it was a similar format as theses line meant the same thing. She remembers telling him in a charming yet sweet manner.
“Just let us be apart of that narrative, in the story we are watching today.” He continued, with a gentle grin, “Let this be a new chapter where I hope we stay..”
“And I could be more than enough.” She finished for him with a gentle grin, “We could be enough…since that would be enough.”
“Took you long enough to get it.”
“I should’ve known by now, I just need the reminder...I’m sorry for worrying you.”
“It’s alright, you didn’t mean it. Now, can we please go to bed?”
She smiled breathlessly and softly replied, “Yes please!”
He stood up, and walked away to the doorway thinking he was following her. But she wasn’t. He looked over his shoulder to to find her holding out her hands at arms length with a cheeky little smile that resulted him to snicker.
“Carry me?” She asked with a soft chuckle, tiredness laced in her voice.
“You’re so dramatic.” He replied with a similar tone as he walked over and picked her up bridal style.
“Shhhhhh babe, there are people trying to sleep here.”
“Oh my god.”
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“I think I love you.”
“I know.”
The pair smiled as he carried her to bed, as she nuzzled her face into the crook of his neck. She hummed a few words and cracking a couple of jokes while he rolled his eyes dropping her onto the bed. She swiftly crawled under the warm covers and laying her head on the pillow, smiling at the blonde who treated her well.
Sometimes she wonders how exactly did she deserve such a man? Guess she will never actually get that solid answer.
She reached for his hand, giving it a small squeeze as if to know she was real and not at all in that icey cold apartment she once placed into. He smiled in return and winked, as there was an unspoken feeling of love in the air.
He left her side and stepped over to the doorframe. He looked over his shoulder and whispered, “Night Liz.”
She yawned, about to ask, more like suggest something but choice against it. Save it for another night as she replied, “Night Jason.”
Just as Jason turned off the lights and leading himself towards the hallway, Elizabeth bite the bullet with a soft grin. She decided to go for it and muttered, “Grey?”
She wondered if he heard it but he did. It cause Jason to pause and turn around to face Elizabeth, because it was a rare but somewhat made common sense that he would hear his middle name being used. Not everyone called him that unless necessary and he secretly preferred it being used among certain people.
Usually it was a way to get his attention in an endearing manner, when it came to his plenty of nicknames over the years.
His mind was fighting off a nerve of worry, as he met her eyesight, and hummed, “Yeah?”
“C-can you stay with me tonight? In bed like old times…” She replied almost shyly, pushing away her curls. It was a rare moment for a woman as bold as she might be. Yet, there was gentle tired smile that tugged her lips.
“Y-you sure?”
“I wouldn’t be sure if I didn’t ask, would I?”
“Fair point. Uh, left side of the bed?”
“A-and you on right.”
“You’re positive about this?”
“Mhm, I am. If not, I can always buy a dog to keep me company instead. I heard Sal’s shelter is open this time and hour.”
“Elizabeth.”
“I’m kidding! But not about the dog thing.”
“Liz.”
“Come on, I know you can’t resist waking up the next morning to a nice view.”
“You talking about yourself or the city’s morning skyline?”
“Both. We’re such amazing views, just sayin’.”
With a chuckle and a little eye roll, Jason climbed into bed and nuzzled himself underneath the covers next to her. Elizabeth’s giggles could be softly heard from her own cocky comments from earlier, as she rested against his shoulder blade humming gently.
She pressed a tiny kiss onto his cheek, as her eyes slowly dropped muttering a few words as she did. He wouldn’t admit it but he missed this, as he pressed a light kiss onto the top of head. With a swig of his arm, he reached forward and turned off the lamp that rested on the nightstand as the soft night sky peeked through the windowsill.

as someone who isn't into zdarsky's run, i mostly agree with your points about why people don't care for it, and i think that the comparison with ram v's current run holds a lot of insight into why i feel it falls flat on a lot of points. ram v's run has also sidelined most of the batfamily, it's also drawing on Batman R.I.P. with its use of Dr. Hurt, its choice of cast and use of b-plots feels very NML… but i like what ram v's run has to say about batman through the lens of cassbats vs azbats, and the prose + artwork + pacing is excellent so i enjoy reading it even when i think it's getting a little caught up in morrison thoughts. meanwhile zdarsky's run is tripped up by a lot of weird event pacing in a way i think is very similar to fear state and keeps overtly reminding me of other stories with art styles and theses about batman that i like more.
I have no problem with people liking one run more than another: honestly I think it's healthy and good marketing to have runs catering to different segments of the fandom. There are occasional glorious periods where it feels like everyone is getting fed, but most of the time, what most fans realistically want is to pick up a title that they are enjoying and not want to throw it across the room.
I...don't expect every run I read to be glorious. I hope it's steady, competent writing with something for me to enjoy in it. And that's what I'm largely getting from Zdarsky. I do think it's a run that helps to have a fair amount of back history on, in that Zdarsky loves a reference, but one of the things I actually really enjoy in comics is the way stories layer on top of each other and become more interesting and complex via those layers, even if any one story may not be 'brilliant', or it might seem derivative pointing to a better written earlier story.
Zdarsky's use of ZEA feels so much clearer in terms of shaping how the concept works than say Batman RIP. And I've got a soft spot for all the Brother-Eye and OMAC references going on, and for Bruce being a freak with a memory palace who's inflicted all sorts of experimental psychological experiments on himself over the years in the pursuit of being BETTER. ZEA as a concept is about things Bruce has done to himself, while Barbatos is something external that is fascinated with Bruce.
I suspect I'm really going to enjoy Ram V's 'Tec run, especially as from all accounts he's got a very structured plot and is being allowed the space to tell it (something I'm fond of), but given I'm currently also on my long range read of Batbooks in order I'm actually trying not to be across current Bat books too much so I can keep everything organised in my head. I'm reading Batman partly because it's Tim's current book and partly because it's where the narrative is revolving at the moment, meaning I can discuss it with other people.

im so tired. just. of this fandom and the canon as well. someone a while ago says that they're growing out of the series and i felt that. like i've been growing out of it for years and i just tried not to think about it. but people get angry when you say you're not a fan of canon. the thing is, i dont know if i was ever a fan of canon. i was a fan of what i created AROUND canon, and i liked that more than i liked anything else. kotlc was a hole that i put oc's dressed in the main characters' names in, and it gave me access to people who wanted to read my works and interact with me. but at the same time. did i ever like canon? or was i just moved by it and then driven to create out of spite?
all i've ever written was never a love letter. it was the 99 theses stapled to the door of a church i don't know if i ever wanted to worship in.
I might not ever write for kotlc again. I don't know what to do with my blog, anymore.

very kindly tagged by @cursedhaglette, thank you for giving me a chance to talk about my writing :)
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
11! :)
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
lmfao. 985,659. That's nearly ten thesises (theses?) in the time of my PhD programme, so I'm going to just go quickly walk into the sea.
3) What fandoms do you write for?
the majority of my fic is for videogames with love interests and OC potential (BG3, Dragon Age) but I did briefly fall prey to the darklina disease, which I have to admit to here in order to answer some of the other questions
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1- Pieces Still Stuck in Your Teeth (bg3)
2- Party Favours (bg3)
3- A Bleeding Heart (bg3)
4- The Stars Don't Shine, They Burn (shadow and bone)
5- An Honest Lie (bg3)
5) Do you respond to comments?
as best as I can, I typically clear out a previous chapter just before I post something new (so that's one way to monitor or predict my posting activity lmfao)
6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Lmao. Sunblindness (shadow and bone) which takes an 'eye for an eye' approach to an amnesia AU. I actually wanted to end on a major character death but my pal's response was "jesus Emma, this is something people read for fun" so I watered it down :')))))
7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Party Favours currently!! Happier endings incoming, IMO.
8) Do you get hate on fics?
yes, occasionally, I'm still in single digits thankfully. i always find it so funny bc nobody is more critical of my fic than me. you think you can hurt me? babygirl, we're in the 5th dimension of insults in my brain, your surface level comment barely touches the sides.
9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
nope! call me the Astarion!spawn ending, the way I fade-to-black :')))))
10) Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I crossovered Stardust and Shadow and Bone, but it was not a straight crossover it was more a chewed up, swallowed, and digested version of both premises. I similarly wrote a Wintersmith/Shadow and Bone crossover that I never posted bc the sickness left me.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
lol. lmfao, even. :)))))
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have had requests made of me and given permission for that to happen, but I do not know if it was ever posted!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no, it's not for me unfortunately, I was that horrible kid in group projects who just wished she could work alone :')))))))))))
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
honestly there are many but the two that are indelibly written on my soul are Howl/Sophie and Spike/Buffy like the simple bitch I am.
In terms of things I've written? zevran/surana, hands down.
15) What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Anything I post I will eventually finish, out of social anxiety alone. At the moment I'm worried about the stuff sitting unposted in gdocs.
16) What are your writing strengths?
hahahahahahaha i don't fucking know i think i can make character voices distinct so you can usually tell which POV I'm writing from once the perspectives are established?
I have been complimented on my dialogue.
I think I'm usually brave enough to take a risky decision, even if it doesn't pay off. These decisions also land more than they used to so it's a skill I've built with time and one I am proud of.
My jokes don't seem to just be for me anymore, I like it when other people say I made them laugh.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
If there's something that can be said straightforwardly in a sentence, you know I'll say it in three paragraphs instead. I wouldn't be surprised if people think I'm a purple-prosed motherfucker.
Smut and lack thereof
the repeat of 'conversation, stage direction, eye contact, expression, repeat' is not a weakness but it is something I become intermittently self conscious of.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I am a fan of it and I appreciate it when its done well (pour one out for Naomi Novik's fic/writing where the language work is cringingly poor), but not something I can personally do. Admirer in others, of the skills I lack.
19) First fandom you wrote for?
*dabs* Dragon Age, the OG. It was the pandemic, and I didn't want to replay Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts bc I hate timed sections, so I wrote a fic instead.
20) Favorite fic you’ve written?
I feel bad writing this on the blog that's currently 99% BG3, but The Stars Don't Shine They Burn. It was my first time plotting something that diverged greatly from source material, and I was going through some stuff at the time that I can feel viscerally when I return to it and read the words. It is a work of personalised comfort. There's one scene in it that still gets me, every single time.
I don't know, it's funny to see Pieces get attention and I'm very, very proud of Pieces, but some of what I'm thinking through in that was in its proto-form in the other fic, which is finished and I'm really proud of it... so let's see if anything comes along to bop it off the top spot once I have a critical distance and am not in the writing trenches lol.
Tagging wise, I actually want to do an open call on this one!! this was a really pleasant exercise, so anyone seeing this who wants to talk about their writing or celebrate their achievements can take this as my personal invitation :)
scared? do it anyway x

hey! this is a method question more than anything, but i wondered whether you would have any advice re tackling how a researcher should approach ‘selecting’ sources (specifically fanfiction) in an instance where there are too many texts for a researcher to realistically read. i appreciate it depends on what you are looking for, but if you have any theories or research that discusses how to manage volume and gauge significance - and even just advice on how best to track and log notes on whats been read - I’d really appreciate it!! thanks so much
This is a very difficult question, because I didn’t quite understand if you’re asking me about how to select fic (as in the story) for you to analyze and study or to find theoretical texts about fanfiction that fits your research. I’ll answer both because I have enough knowledge to do that.
If it’s about selecting fics - you need to choose the ones that fit your research. Personal advice: stick to the ones you really like because you’re going to deal with them for a long period of time. For example, let’s say I have to write a research paper about omegaverse (pls keep in mind I study literature) and I want to explore the diversity that omegaverse can be presented by ficwriters. I’ll pick 5 different fics that I really like - it can be different from fandoms and feature different couples because you’re working with the theme omegaverse and not a ship itself, for example. Then, I’ll show how in which one of them the omegaverse works - the differences, the similarities, etc. The biggest mistake you can make, in my opinion, is to choose the fic first and then choose what you want to research. Sometimes our connection with a story is very deep, but it doesn’t mean that the fic has enough material for you to analyze depending on your topic of research. Seriously, choosing a fic is all about what you read and enjoy and if you can pick the things you can get to do your research. As I have no idea what you’re researching, I can’t help much, sorry!
Ok, I just realized you didn’t specify if you were researching specific fics or like a whole genre/theme of fics. If it’s the first, then what I say applies, but if it’s the second, disregard that. I don’t have any experience researching a large amount of data aka quantitative research. I can suggest two books for you to read about it that I believe it’s trustworthy: Quantitative Methodologies using Multi-Methods and Analyzing Media Messages.
It seems to me, from what you’re asking, is that you’re lost dealing with doing research itself. My advice is to read about academic research. Those are books from trustworthy publishing houses that might help you:
Doing Academic Research (Routledge)
A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (This one is really popular)
Evaluating Research in Academic Journals
Doing Academic Research (Cambridge)
I found this Research and Publications Planner: The Graduate Student's Guide to Publishing Academic Research - reading the reviews it seems to be a notebook that helps you organize your research and keep track of things.
About the organization of your research: it’s very personal. The way I keep track of mine is like this. I have a folder for my research  in my Google Drive and I created a few separated folders within it. I’ll give you an example: how I deal with the references I use in my research and the theoretical foundation. First, I separated by topic, in my case is autoethnography (the methodology of my research), fanfiction (the academics texts I use to talk about fic that aligns with my perception) and creative writing (it’s a topic I might touch in my research but I’m not sure yet). Then, I pick the articles and books - for you to do this you’ll need to start with the forefathers and foremothers of the field. Any research on google will tell you who are the leading researchers in whatever field you’re working on. Usually when I’m reading the academic texts, I create a doc and copy and paste the bits I find relevant for me, taking notes of the page and chapter so I can put it in my references later.
As it seems you’re studying fanfiction here are the authors you have to know for doing an incredible work for fanfiction: Henry Jenkins, Sara Gwenllian Jones, Kristina Busse, Karen Hellekson, Abigail Derecho, Francesca Coppa, Louisa Ellen Stein, Judith Fathallah, Anne Jamison and Ika Willis.
Recs about theoretical texts related to fic as a genre:
A Fan Studies Primer
In Fan Fiction and Fan Communities in the Age of the Internet you can find those two texts: Archontic Literature and Writing Bodies in Space
Fic: Why Fanfiction Is Taking Over the World
Introduction of The Fanfiction Reader
Framing Fan Fiction
The Fan Fiction Studies Reader
If you want to talk to me, send me an email to [email protected]. I hope I helped a bit!

I haven't been in this interesting fandom in years but hearing theses allegations make me sick to my stomach and I wanted to speck as someone who got into dsmp cuz of Wilbur.
Don't support him, don't support Wilbur. He's obviously a manipulative asshole and shouldn't have a platform. Dont watch his videos, dont watch his streams, don't stream his music on any platform, don't buy his merch. Do not support him in anyway.
His apologise was self centred and just ass and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even write it and it was some ai or even a lawyer.
I do want to say that you shouldn't expect other streamers who knew him/collabed with him to speck on it, esspily so early. Dont get me wrong its great that ppl like Rangoon, amisy, tubbo, sneeg and that publicly denounce him but for alot of these people this was one of their firend.
And to people who are unsure what to do, trust me do not support him. Dose it suck that the person you've watch for years truned out to be a terrible person?, absolutely. trust me I rember being such a huge fan of his music and writing. But we need to relize that there is an actual victem in this situation and counting to support him is just hurting the victims and putting others in possbuly danger, like Shelby said.
Shelby is one of the bravest people around and we should give her all the support in the world. It takes so much guts just to tell anyone about abuse never mind thousands if not millions of people. Essply with such a huge and former loved streamer it would have been so nerve raking.
Support shelby

How to gain readers on ao3:
AO3 does not have an algorithm so there are essentially 4 ways people can come across your fic:
1) The front page when they are searching the ship/fandom. While it can be filtered to kudos/hits etc, it defaults to the time that you've uploaded.
2) Searching tags. Again, it defaults to time uploaded. However, if people are looking for something specific, that's how they'll find it.
3) Promo. This is generally self-led at the start, on social media platforms.
4) Reccomendations. Usually, this comes later.
Tips:
1) In small fandoms, when you upload doesn't really matter because you're likely to stay on the front page for a long time.
However, in larger fandoms and ships - including One Direction and Larry - it's faster paced. From other sources and my own experience, the best time to upload is between 1pm-7pm UTC, Sunday-Thursday. The worst day to upload is Friday. More users are on at these times. I will come to it later.
2) Tag everything. Everything. Sure, a lot of people ignore tags, however, there are people who search out tags.
Personally, I have a favourite tag, and it's something an element that a lot of fics have but they never tag it. So, when I search for it, only a few hundred fics come up, when it reality thousands should.
Things you should tag vaguely sorted highest priority to least - kind of:
- Fandom and ship name. Obviously these are the most searched for tags. Make sure you get them right. If your fic gives equal time to over ships, include them all. A way to determine if it should be added is to determine whether anyone in that relationship gets their own POV, or if they get scenes without the characters of the other ship being present.
- The main trope: Friends to lovers, exes to lovers, Idiots in love, established relationship etc. You might find there are extra options, I.e Enemies to lovers and Enemies to friends to lovers. If your fic is both, add them both.
- The general vibe (Cant think of the right term): Fluff, angst, smut, PWP (porn without plot/plot what plot), hurt, comfort etc. You will find multiple options for most of these, I.e Angst and Fluff and Smut, Angst and Fluff, Smut and Fluff etc. Again, use multiple but keep it relevant to the fic. For example, if your fic is more fluff with only a hint of angst, don't add 17 different tags that include angst and vice versa.
- Canon side characters and side relationships. When you're uploading you have the option of putting the ship, only do this with the main ship. However, you can put side ships in the tags. I'd especially recommend doing this if it's a rare pair as readers of rare pairs are desperate to read anything that includes their ship.
- Smaller tropes. These aren't the main tropes, but things that happen in the fic, I.e one bed, found family, fake dating (if it's not the main premise of the fic).
- If it's smut/kink, tag everything that happens in it because people will search these tags. If there is rimming, tag it. If there is humiliation, tag it.
(there are also a lot of things you should tag as warnings, but I'm not going to include those here)
3) Self-promo. If you have a platform already, you can promote there. For example, you may have a large Twitter following for your fandom, if you start writing fics, it might be enough to only post there.
However, if you have no platform, start on Tumblr. There are likely fic tracking tags for your fandom/ship. Theses aren't only helpful as people may search them theirselves, but they are often connected to accounts that will reblog your fic. Find those and use them. Tumblr let's you add 30 tags but only the first 20 will work when you search - so if you want to add ones that you don't expect to be searched for, but to add more information, put these after the tracking tags.
Design and include a mood board. You will find a lot of these on Tumblr. Canva is a great site to use to create one.
4) Generally recommendations come once you're more established, however, once you get them, reblog/retweet them.
On Tumblr, thank them for the rec in the tags.
If it is on Twitter, unless you have something really important to add, thank them in a comment and then retweet it rather than quote tweet. This means if people like it, the likes are going to the orignal tweet, rather than you. This might just be personal preference, however, I just think it's more polite. They're the ones who took the time to write it, they should get the likes (again, if there is something you really want to add, you can quote tweet but make sure you thank them as well).
Hope that helps! If you'd like me to expand on any of the above, feel free to send a DM or anon!

Hi!!!! I have been reading your tvc metas, and they are wonderful and I want to thank you for it!
I have been struggling to read theses books, and it really help me, I love IWTV, Louis is my fav, the aspect and style of first book is astonishing, the entire loustat dynamic is fascinating. And as much I love Lestat too, I didn't like TVL, and it left me frustrated with myself and disappointed with the book. It took me weeks to read TVL, and even more months to finish QotD. For me IWTV could stand alone, the other books seem to be part of a completely different series.
Your metas have helped me deal with my frustrations with TVC, and thank you for that, because i love theses characters (some of them) and I want to know their stories, still sad due to the lack of Louis, and I will try to read all the books so that my information about it are not all second handed.
and most important, I love your blog, I love your art and your fanfics 🫶
That's so nice of you I'm so so glad!! It's so exciting when someone likes my metas and fics, I love to write them! It's especially cool if it's made the books more enjoyable!! Book Louis is my special little guy of all time and like a small weird mangey rabbit that I keep as a beloved pet even though he bites so I'm also very happy to hear that you loved IWTV!!
As pretentious as it sounds, I was disappointed that a lot of new fans coming from the show didn't really Get book Louis or make an effort to understand his character. He's....challenging (nasty and gross) but there's so much rich character building there and it makes me sad when people write him off as boring and one note. AMC Louis is a really great character and I enjoy him a lot, but I don't like sentiment that he's a "fix" for a bad character.
As for TVL, I really do love it (even though IWTV is my favorite), but I can see how the style change can be jarring. In a way, it almost IS a different series because the narrator and POV has changed so drastically. It's in the same universe, but a totally different take on it to match a contrasting personality. I think it comes across better on a second read too because you're more prepared for the switch and have more context.
I can understand being partial to one style or the other (plenty of people prefer TVL to IWTV which I understand for sure), but I hope that even if the book itself wasn't for you that you enjoyed the insight into Lestat’s character. The first two books combined make for such a fantastic relationship dynamic in top of great stand alone characters, even better than just IWTV on its own in my opinion because now we know so much about them both.
This might be somewhat controversial among VC fans (?) but I don't really care for QotD either, with the exception of the Devil's Minion chapter and the ending with Loustat. I think it really shows the flaws beginning to emerge in AR's writing, but it's SO much better than what comes after that it gets more praise than maybe it deserves. Then again, I'm extremely partial to character-driven stories, so maybe if you're a plot guy it's a matter of preference.
If you've read my metas I'm sure you know that I don't really recommend anyone read past QotD, but I also see it as kind of rite of passage if you really want to be in the real trenches of the book fandom. It's miserable and you won't be the same afterward but the curse of forbidden knowledge is kind of a unifying factor, the ties that bind. If you choose to proceed then I wish you best and hope you'll come back to commiserate later.
Either way, I'm really glad you got some value from my metas! I love some of these characters so much and I'm super happy they were validating for you as a reader and maybe enhanced the experience in other ways! I aim to provide only the best VC Sparknotes.
I always have more to talk about (in meta and in fic), so I hope you enjoy everything that's coming just as much!

This may be obvious but I'm curious about your answers; Waxer/Boil for the ship ask game?
Oh look, my favorite topic! >:D *cracks knuckles*
So, YES, obviously I ship them. XD We all know I'm a feral gremlin over theses two.
1. What made you ship it? It was completely accidental, haha. I really didn't ship anyone in TCW for a while after I got into the fandom, then I was into Codywan for a bit. But I reeaaally loved Waxer and was appalled that there weren't any longer fics that really focused on him, so I decided to write one! That became Will You Walk With Me? and since Waxer and Boil are best friends, I had to work out stuff about their characters and friendship.
I had no intention of writing it as a 'pre-relationship' fic, but I totally played myself. XD I'm so weak for best friends to lovers, and all the stuff I wrote with them kept melting my heart, haha, so eventually, I gave in.
This was also around the time I learned that shipping any of the millions of copy/paste space men with each other is Horrible and Bad and if you do it, you're a Horrible and Bad Person. XD So of course, I was trying to wrap my head around why people would even be bothered by clone/clone ships. Which got me thinking about how they're the only people who can really understand each other and appreciate the extremely unique circumstances in which they all grew up. Especially in a Galaxy where they aren't even citizens, of course it would be natural to find safety and comfort among their own people. 🥺🧡 Which is all to say, it's very possible that the kerfuffle about clone shipping primed me to consider Waxer and Boil's relationship in a new light.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship? I mean, most of them are probably just my headcanons since we don't have a lot to go on, but as far as canon stuff: I immediately loved that they have very different personalities and approaches to life but it's also very clear that they're very close. Mismatched puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. :' ) <3
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Hm, I see so little about them outside of what I and a few friends write that I'm not even sure what would be considered 'popular' for them XD;
