This is your sign to talk about the blorbos. Pop off
Okay I was yapping about mechanite gender today so imma transfer some of those yaps here to inflict on tumblr
So to me mechanites don’t have any cultural understanding of gender beyond what has been picked up from societies existing around them. Like a mechanite raised in a non mechanite society will probably have more typical “binary” view on it but someone from a more classical Mechanus society is more like, we just Exist and present as we please, no more to it than that. Machines don’t have a gender, they have no biological reasons to have conceptual ideas of sex or hence gender differences based of norms around that. They just exist and likely have demographics based off other factors for different things.
Canon Maxim is agender to me for this reason, if I’m picking a label for it. I feel like Maxim would have used neutral pronouns all through living in Mechanus but get he/himed upon going to the material plane because he presents in a typically masculine way through sheer coincidence, and going, yeah sure that works. He doesn’t really care enough to say otherwise and it fits fine for him. It’s nice and clear and doesn’t cause any confusion. Efficient, which is all that matters. Like, does a machine sit there and worry about what it presents to the world as? Does it care for gender? Does the unflinching and unified power of Mechanus ascribe to such ideas? No. Hence, neither does he. He doesn’t have much of a concept of gender for himself, it is a thing that exists outside of him I think
Also, despite physically and vocally sounding masculine Maxim’s clothing choice a teeny bit less stereotypically masc. In aus I’m like, yeah that guy lives in a suit probably, but in canon I physically cannot see him wearing that. Pants? No. Exists exclusively in long heavy mage robes. Which is indeed all he’s ever described to wear in canon (unlike VR-LA but we’ll get to that). It’s not like a dress but it’s a very neutral sort sort of garb by your stereotypical standards.
Then, onto VR-LA, who I have some fun thoughts about. Having been from Candlekeep has a more human/oid like view on gender. Not to say they were strict on having a binary but like, they actually have concepts of male and female unlike a purely mechanite society. He goes with being a guy because he was raised in that sort of slot, and that way he doesn’t have to overthink it. Like sure he doesn’t have any complaints and this is a role he can fit into just fine. But there’s a vague disconnect there that he’s not really acknowledging. He probably has that view of himself shaken up by spending more time around mechanites and yes this is my way to give the robot a mild identity crisis.
I will make that robot gender queer you can’t stop me
He pointedly ignore the little sparky feeling of euphoria he gets from long swishy wizard robes,. He doesn’t have a problem with masc clothes but he’s never really explored beyond it and is finding out hey, I like this?? Which is also one thing to note which is very minor but VR-LA like. Wears pants, which idk to me feels weird for a robot but it’s clearly a fashion/comfort choice he’s made. Even when wearing wizard robes he did his time showing thigh in season one and now they’re gone lol. He just leans a little into that more stereotypically masc look.
Anyway yeah I think VR-LA should get to experiment with gender presentation a little, as a treat <3
I also have thoughts about the other mechanites (Mainly E-DN being more gender neutral, AS-TR is she/they to me and very femme, Astro on discord pointed out C-RA being most strongly aligned to her gender in being feminine and yes I agree I love that). But anyway I have shit to do that I’m seriously procrastinating so that’s for another time

Truncated Synopsis:
The alternate history diverges around the time humanity was painting on cave walls. In the binary Spica system, about 260 light years away in Virgo, Spica A went supernova. After the cataclysm, the Spica system consisted of a rapidly spinning neutron star and what remained of Spica B. Descriptions of the nebula in Virgo date back to the very start of record keeping.
1960-2180 was a period of chaotic space expansion. Motivations varied, but soon humanity saw independent nation states in cislunar, Mars sphere, Jupiter, Saturn and everywhere in between. Fusion and fission power permitted humanity to thrive in the void, which was fortunate because...
Tumblr media
In 2181 a relativistic impactor struck the North Atlantic. Originating from Virgo, the catastrophe eventually cost 2/3 of humanity both on and off planet. Many space nations barely survived the brief dark age that followed. Humanity scrambled to find footing in the solar system.
Luna and the gas giants emerged as concentrated spheres of humanity, with Luna retaining most surviving seats of Earth governments and the only military force. Industrialization resumed and reconstituted mega-corporations positioned themselves to profit off the impending growth.
Commercial empires, rivaling the power of many nation states, quickly developed the base of industry to build massive cities, constellations of ships and material infrastructure to push humanity beyond the biological baseline at the consumer level.
Brand specific babies found popularity as companies perfected genetic traits over multiple generations. Human divergence became a concern in the traditionalist systems of Luna, Jupiter and the Solar Empire. The outer solar system, facing rapid growth, began to isolate itself.
Political upheaval beyond Neptune required intervention, but Luna could never respond at such great distances, especially as the remote, fractured states of the high orbits began unifying. They called it the Kuiper Alliance, and transhumanism was a founding ideal.
The Alliance offered terms. Independence for the worlds at Neptune and beyond, the right to defense, the right to sustain those genomes who already existed... at the expense of a freeze on all further post-human development and a mutual defense policy... a check on Jupiter.
Denouncing perceived betrayal by Luna and the inner worlds, the Galilean Federation (Jupiter and all politically associated spheres) began rapid militarization and unification. The Federation made territorial claims owed from the early expansion era, prior to the loss of Earth.
Turbulent is the situation. The Kuiper Alliance, although massive, is fractured in it's response to Jupiter. Likewise the nations of Luna struggle to unify a response from the inner solar system as old allies cede to neutrality under the threat of a devastating war.
In the high orbits, the worlds of the Alliance are content to pursue their own diversified prosperity, expanding ever higher into the dark, abyssal Oort. It's from within these transhumanist cultures that stories of strange and consistent visions have permeated.
Originally thought to be the ravings of fringe society lunatics, these stories were lent credibility when it was discovered that clandestine, government and commercial organizations were contacting and tracking those affected, often at great expense.
Now, the public is on the lookout for sleeping or waking dreams with consistent themes. Images of neutron stars, an overwhelming presence and most unnerving of all... images of the North Atlantic impact of 2181. "The gods are among us" some people now say.
So here we are, somewhere between war, gods and an ever diluted destiny. The historic seat of humanity wanes. The cultures of Sol grow diverse and unsympathetic towards baseline. Jupiter fights for relevance and power.
And the eye of Virgo watches...

//There's about 400 years of alternate history (or ~20,000, depending on how you measure) crammed into one post!

“Reimagining the Houri: A Queer and Feminist Analysis of Divine Celestial Beings”
The Houris or Hur are celestial beings often described in Islamic eschatological texts as gifts awaiting the righteous men in paradise. Traditionally interpreted as beautiful, pure, and eternally youthful companions, the Houris have been the subject of much theological, cultural, and political debate. From their descriptions in the Qur’an and Hadith to their portrayal in popular culture, they have often been framed within a patriarchal and heteronormative lens, serving as rewards for male believers. However, by applying queer and feminist theory, we can deconstruct these interpretations and reimagine the Houris as symbols that transcend gender, sexuality, and the rigid binaries of desire; offering a more inclusive and fluid understanding of spiritual fulfillment.
The Houris Within the Patriarchal Framework
In traditional patriarchal interpretations, Houris are often depicted as hyperfeminized, objectified beings created solely for the pleasure of male believers. They are described in the Qur’an as having "wide, lovely eyes" (Qur’an 44:54, 52:20) and "full-breasted companions of equal age" (Qur’an 78:33). These descriptions have historically been reduced to physical attributes, reinforcing a heteronormative male gaze that commodifies the Houris as trophies of moral and religious success. Feminist critiques of this framework point to how such depictions align with broader patriarchal systems that reduce women to objects of male desire, subordinating their existence to the needs and achievements of men.
Yet, a closer reading of the Qur’anic texts reveals ambiguities that challenge these reductive interpretations. Houris are described as "pious companions" (Qur’an 2:25, 3:15), emphasizing their purity, spirituality, and equality rather than their physicality. Moreover, the Qur’anic language often leaves the gender of the Houris unmarked, opening the door for interpretations that transcend binary notions of male and female. This ambiguity provides fertile ground for a queer and feminist reimagining of the Houris as beings that challenge and/or disrupt traditional gender and sexual hierarchies.
Queering the Houris: Beyond Gender Binary
From a queer theoretical perspective, the Houris can be understood as celestial beings that exist outside the constraints of human gender and sexuality. The Qur’anic descriptions of Houris often focus on their purity, luminosity, and spiritual essence rather than explicitly defining their gender. While patriarchal exegetes have traditionally feminized the Houris, their true nature is more ambiguous. The term "hur" itself is plural and can refer to beings with "bright, pure, clear eyes" or being who is white, pure, and sacred (from the root word denoting whiteness) without specifying gender. This linguistic fluidity challenges the binary framework of male and female, opening up the possibility of Houris as non-binary entities. Furthermore, the Houris’ eternal youth and unchanging nature defy the temporal and corporeal limitations of human bodies. In this sense, the Houris can be seen as queering the concept of the body itself, existing as beings of light or spirit that are not bound by the physical markers of sex or gender. They embody a form of existence that is fluid, transcendent, and inclusive, offering a vision of paradise that is not constrained by the heteronormative frameworks of earthly life.
Feminist Reclamation of the Houris: Agency and Subjectivity
Feminist and Islamic liberation theory allows us to shift the focus from the Houris as objects of male desire to subjects with agency and spiritual significance. Traditional interpretations often strip the Houris of individuality, reducing them to passive rewards for righteous men. However, a feminist reading can reimagine the Houris as autonomous beings with their own spiritual purpose and significance in the celestial realm.
The Qur’an describes the Houris as "companions" (Qur’an 37:48), a term that implies mutuality and equality rather than subservience. By emphasizing their role as companions rather than objects, we can reinterpret the Houris as partners in a spiritual journey, rather than mere rewards for fulfilling earthly obligations. This perspective challenges the commodification of women’s bodies and reframes the Houris as beings with intrinsic value and dignity.
Moreover, the feminist reclamation of the Houris can highlight their role as symbols of spiritual renewal and purity. Rather than viewing them as prizes for physical or sexual gratification, the Houris can be understood as representations of the soul’s transcendence and the fulfillment of divine love. In this sense, the Houris serve as reminders of the spiritual equality of all believers, regardless of gender.
Houris as Symbols of Queer Desire and Fluid Fulfillment
Queer theory also allows us to reinterpret the Houris as symbols of fluid and inclusive desire. In paradise, traditional earthly constraints—such as gender, sexuality, and reproduction—no longer apply. The Qur’an repeatedly describes paradise as a place of ultimate contentment, where every soul receives what it truly desires (Qur’an 41:31). In this context, the Houris can be seen as manifestations of individualized fulfillment, adapting to the unique desires and needs of each believer.
This perspective queers the traditional heteronormative framing of the Houris as exclusively female companions for men. For women, nonbinary individuals, and queer believers, the Houris can represent companionship and intimacy that transcends earthly norms of gender and sexuality. A queer reading of the Houris thus reimagines them as fluid beings capable of fulfilling diverse forms of love, intimacy, and connection.
By detaching the Houris from rigid gender roles and heteronormative frameworks, we can envision them as symbols of divine love that is inclusive, expansive, and unrestricted. This interpretation aligns with the broader Islamic emphasis on the mercy and generosity of God, who promises paradise as a place of ultimate joy and satisfaction for all believers, not just heterosexual men.
Deconstructing the Male Gaze: Houris as Mirrors of the Soul
Applying feminist and queer theory also allows us to deconstruct the male gaze that has historically shaped interpretations of the Houris. Rather than viewing them as external objects of desire, the Houris can be reimagined as mirrors of the soul’s inner beauty and purity. Their descriptions in the Qur’an emphasize attributes such as luminosity, purity, and spiritual perfection, which can be understood as reflections of the believer’s own spiritual state in paradise.
This interpretation shifts the focus from the Houris as external rewards to the Houris as internal affirmations of divine grace. In this sense, the Houris are not "others" to be possessed but extensions of the self, representing the soul’s reunion with the divine. This reading queers the traditional subject-object relationship between the believer and the Houris, emphasizing unity and mutuality instead of possession and subjugation.
Houris as Symbols of Feminist Utopia
Finally, the Houris can be reimagined as symbols of a feminist utopia, where earthly systems of oppression and inequality are dismantled. In paradise, the Qur’an promises freedom from suffering, injustice, and hardship (Qur’an 56:25-26). This includes liberation from the patriarchal structures that have historically constrained women’s agency and autonomy. The Houris, as beings of purity and light, can be seen as symbols of this liberated existence, embodying a state of being that is free from the limitations of gender, power, and hierarchy.
In this feminist utopia, the Houris are no longer rewards for male superiority but companions in a shared journey toward divine love and fulfillment. Their presence in paradise affirms the spiritual equality of all believers, challenging the patriarchal interpretations that have sought to subordinate women and queer individuals within religious frameworks.
Conclusion: The Houris as Queer and Feminist Icons
Within a queer and feminist lens, we can move beyond the hetero-patriarchal and heteronormative interpretations of the houris that have dominated our society for a long time. Instead, we can reimagine the houris as symbols of fluidity, inclusivity, and spiritual fulfillment. They represent a vision of paradise where love, desire, and companionship are not constrained by earthly binaries or hierarchies but are instead expansive, diverse, and reflective of divine mercy.
This reimagining of the Houris challenges the commodification of women, the limitations of gender binaries, and the exclusion of queer believers from spiritual narratives. By queering and feminizing the Houris, we reclaim them as icons of liberation, transcendence, and divine love—offering a vision of paradise that is truly inclusive and transformative for all.

Unpopular Opinion on Xenogenders
I got into a discussion the other day, wherein someone was talking about their xenogender and neopronoun use.
A xenogender is a non-binary gender identity that uses concepts beyond traditional human understandings of gender, often drawing from nature, inanimate objects, or abstract ideas, and is often used by neurodivergent individuals.  To be honest, I'm not a fan. The gender in question was "Stargender". "Stargender" refers to a xenogender identity that can be understood in three ways: as a gender that is literally or metaphorically like a star, as an otherworldly, non-human gender beyond earthly comprehension, or as a gender that defies categorization within existing terms.
My argument about this is that human gender ISN'T beyond human comprehension. As a simple biological species, we didn't start off with gender, just biological sex. Over time and the maturation and evolution of society, gender becomes a thing in the sociological organization of people. "In 1955, the controversial and innovative sexologist John Money first used the term “gender” in a way that we all now take for granted: to describe a human characteristic. Money's work broke new ground, opening a new field of research in sexual science and giving currency to medical ideas about human sexuality." (1)
But, we ARE Human. So while gender is expressed on a spectrum of understanding and identification, it has to do so on a standardized grid of the available attributes. As a species with a biological mating pair, we have traits of both sexual endpoints as well as a degree of saturation of gender.
Tumblr media
Any recognizable and categorical point of human gender has to fit within the parameters of our gender continuum.
Now a person can identify with any point on this grid, or any multiple points on the grid, but a point outside the grid is fantasy. It's fantasy in the same way that humans can't be elves, because elves are fantasy creatures. Take for example, "catgender" (a gender identity related to cats). According to the Wiki article, "Catgender is a xenogender in which one feels a gendered connection to cats and/or other felines. One may feel a strong gendered connection to cats or felines, or may incorporate them into one's gender to better understand their identity." (2)  A cat has no understanding or concept of human gender. Cats are agender. In Humans, Masculine hunts and Feminine tends babies. All cats hunt. Most cats will take care of babies. To me, it's really like xenogenders are people trying to use a metaphor to describe how they feel about their own gender, but that doesn't help anyone else understand where they might fall on the gender spectrum. Stars, cats, plants, other animals, or the like isn't a useful categorization. "Gender refers to a person's internal sense of self as male, female, both, or neither, which is distinct from biological sex." (3)
Now that being said, my argument against them IS rooted in transphobia, I am aware. It IS gatekeeping, I am aware. But some changes have to occur gradually. We may reach a societal point where having a gender outside the human experience is accepted, understood, and embraced, but this period of birth is not it. You should walk before you run, and learn science before you fly.

Left Alone Part 9: Silencers 1
Tropes/content warnings: M for mature themes overall. vampire whumpee/caretaker, male whumpee/caretaker, non-binary whumpee/caretaker, general morbidity; this is a bit of a breather chapter before we get to the bitey shooty part in 2 and 3, so not a lot of relevant triggers. There will be a lot of play with, and discussion of, the concept of consent in this series, as it applies to many topics. There will be angst. Vampire biting can be painful, platonic, or NSFW and I'm not sure what direction that will take, but Tolly will definitely continue to fantasize about subtextually or literally sex-murdering Arden, as vampires often do.
If you would like to be added to, or removed from, the tag list of this series, please let me know!
Part 8: Faint
The kitchen had a back door facing out into the overgrown herb garden, an expanse of knee-high lawn, and the woods. He considered running the property barefoot, but he knew it was surrounded by forest. Only living wood was very dangerous to him. There was always the chance of stepping on a snag or a cut blackberry vine old enough to be woody, which would go through his foot like a hot knife through butter. Any real injury would use up too much of his pig’s blood to heal. He would wait for shoes.
He breathed in the night for as long as he dared, looking up at the stars – nothing important had changed in twenty years. It was one of the only things an immortal could depend on. The stars changed so slowly that they were always there. He could hear spring peepers in the distance from the creek beyond the lawns. A dizzying bouquet of scents burst over him, plant and human and animal and inanimate.
It was almost fearful, this sensation of his world expanding again. He hated the little room, had hated watching himself slowly shrivel and starve, but things inside it were very simple.
His time was limited. There was work to do. Tolly locked up again and went to collect the trash from downstairs and put it just inside the back door, so he could take it to the bin when his shoes arrived. He put the volume on Poe carefully back in its place on the library shelf.
With these preliminary matters accomplished, Tolly went to sit, ankles crossed, on the big stairway so that he could teach himself to use the phone. Moonlight glittered in the stained-glass skylight above the vestibule. It depicted the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone, very traditional for someone of Nicholas’ religion.
A current smartphone was a fascinating thing, so unlike the phones he remembered. The internet was mind-bogglingly fast, too. It amazed him. He couldn’t get the wifi password from the phone itself. He’d have to ask Arden later.
Tolly's ebay account still existed, and his bank had a web site now. He was able to register after some finagling with taking pictures of his face and talking on the phone to what turned out to be a machine with recorded human voice segments. At the end of a couple of hours he had linked his account with a few payment services, ordered new cards, and signed up for Amazon. The phone Arden had ordered him was a prepaid – he could see Arden’s Amazon, too – so he let that be for now. It was functionally disposable that way, and he could charge it with minutes and not invest in a plan he might not need. There was no point in spending so much on something that might so easily break, and the parasitic integration of Google accounts did have the advantage of convenience. Every phone could, from now on, be the same phone, as long as it was the same operating system to recover data from the cloud.
His stockbroker had a web site now. He signed up for that, too. His stocks had performed extremely well in his absence, as it turned out. He sent a message to the accounting service he had used for two generations of American identities, claiming he had been ill and undergoing treatment and asking if they would do business via email now. They were supposed to have kept up with his capital gains taxes, but it would be as well to assess the situation and pay any fines or back taxes he might owe.
His current identity was forty years old now. He should start establishing a younger one to “inherit” soon, so that when he got to seventy or eighty it would be ready. Obtaining a social security number fraudulently was probably harder now. Maybe this “dark web” thing would be of use. He should probably figure out what a “VPN” was first.
But that was a less urgent matter. He needed shoes. Hair and nail care kits went into the cart immediately, of course. But he had to mull over the issue of wardrobe. He couldn’t go back to tailored business clothing when Arden’s apparent preference was  casual, and besides, if he looked too  wealthy it would create friction. He wouldn’t be entirely convincing in young people’s clothes, either. At some point he would have human blood again, be strong again – the roots of his canines ached – but even glamour could only do so much.
Very well. Pacific Northwest casual. If they needed to do something more formal, he would need to clothe Arden anyway, so he could shop for himself if it came up then. He’d no idea what their incarnation of gender portended for dress clothing, and for now, it didn’t matter. He ordered straight-leg jeans and corduroys, tee shirts, flannels, a couple of tank tops, and a wool-lined leather overcoat. These were what he would consider inexpensive but durable brands. He would have spent more on footwear, but Arden’s shoes were of the $30-on-sale variety, so he settled for Florsheim’s sneakers and the cheapest available leather wallet for the payment cards he expected to receive by mail shortly. If things weren’t dramatic in appearance, and the brand name wasn’t obtrusive, most people wouldn’t know by sight how much they had cost.
Toiletries. Shaving wasn’t exactly necessary, because Basilia had made him shave himself before she initiated him, but it was important to keep up appearances. No wristwatch, people used phones for that now so it was an accessory of fashion he didn’t immediately need. He ordered a canvas duffel bag, too.
A lot of packages were going to appear in the next day or so. He’d rushed everything that could be rushed. It couldn’t be helped. He didn’t want Arden spending any more of their monetary cache on him. He debated wiring more money. Best not to overwhelm them. Their exhaustion and collapse indicated what Tolly instinctively thought of as a nervous disposition before he remembered that different phrasing was appropriate in a more modern era.
He wondered what version the DSM was on now. He checked. He also checked if Maulian Basal Retinoid Syndrome was still considered a valid disorder. It still was. He smiled for a second to see a Dr. Lauren Phibes, Junior, listed as the predominant expert on the disease. Lauren had gotten “old” enough to need to pass on his practice, finally. When the present crisis was over, Tolly resolved to get in touch again. Lauren was always good for an interesting evening.
He needed more time investigating the popular culture to update his mental vocabulary to his apparent age instead of twenty years “older” (he politely refrained from looking at the bookmark folder labeled “homework” – some habits apparently survived from Arden’s high school or college years) but the phone said it was already 4 a.m. and he had best deal with the matter of dawn approaching.
Tolly hurriedly logged out of everything and logged Arden back into Amazon and Gmail with his password from an app that only asked for the locking code again. He wrote a brief note in the study – the ghost of Nicholas remained in scent even after so long - and soft-footed it back upstairs to leave both note and phone on the nightstand.
Dear Arden:
I took the liberty of borrowing your phone to transact some business. I have attempted to leave it as I found it, but I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. I also apologize for all of the package deliveries. If you would do me the favor of bringing them inside, I will deal with them tomorrow night. I ask only because your weather app indicates rain is likely.
Your written orders will be obeyed, if you don’t want to wait up tomorrow evening.
I have also ordered another case of non-dairy protein shakes in the chocolate flavor, as it appears you are out. Please drink at least two.
Bartholomaeus
Then he shut the basement door behind him and smugly walked back downstairs, feet protected from even the dead wood of splinters by his thick if increasingly dirty socks. He read Dumas until his eyes began to grow dim and his limbs unwieldy. Then he crawled back into the sleeping bag. He left the socks laid out on the rug, to keep the inside of the bag clean.
“Tolly. Hey, Tolly. Wake up!”
A voice snapped him back to consciousness. Tolly unzipped the bag far enough to emerge, crawling backward on his hands and feet until he was out far enough to kneel. His hair was in worse case now. He could tell as he ran his talons through it. Arden stood outside the small room, pounding on the wall next to it with one fist. They stopped as they saw him emerge.
“Something weird happened today,” they said.
“What is it?” Tolly asked.
“I got a cash offer of five million dollars to buy the house and everything in it,” Arden said. “From some company. TriVenture LLC. Their lawyer called the lawyer who settled Uncle Nick’s estate.”
“What did you say?” Tolly asked, pulling on his socks before he turned to shake the sleeping bag and tightly roll it up.
“I said I needed to think about it. It’s weird, right? The whole property probably isn’t worth a million dollars, not out here in the County. Five is insane.”
“When Nicholas was killed, was a body found?”
“That might be hard to hear,” Arden said. “It was pretty awful.” It might be hard to say, said their tone.
“It may be important,” Tolly said.
“They found tiny bits of blood and hair where he was impaled on the steering column, because the airbag didn’t deploy when he hit a tree, but the car basically exploded. There was nothing left but metal and burning upholstery when somebody found it. And some animal teeth scattered around. That was weird. They investigated for mechanical faults, but there wasn’t enough left to tell.”
“Was the accident in daylight?” Tolly asked, stopping with the bag under his arm.
“Yeah, it was afternoon when they found it and it was still burning,” Arden said. “Why?”
Black Tolly was silent for a long moment. Then he said, “He died twice.”
“What?”
“He injected himself with my blood for years. One who has consumed undead blood does not remain dead. He died in the accident, and then when he changed, he died again in the fire and in the sun.”
“That’s fucking awful,” Arden said.
“I doubt it was an accident,” Tolly said. “Not when someone wants to buy his house and effects at a price so high. He said he was leading them away from the ring, didn’t he?”
Arden squinted unhappily. “So, who killed him, then?”
“I don’t know,” Tolly said. “He didn’t tell me who his enemies were. He vaguely hinted that he had some within his religion, but I was never sure if he meant it.” Arden was starting to look pale and sound thready again. It was time to introduce another topic. “Did my things arrive?”
“I stacked it all in the other guest room. Do you want to keep sleeping down here instead?” Arden asked uncertainly.
“If you are willing that I rest aboveground, the sleeping bag is adequate to protect me from the sun. I would just as soon never see this room again,” Tolly said.
“I don’t blame you,” Arden said. They looked at the ceiling. “Which is why I wonder how come you’re still here and not already in Seattle at the Fairmont Olympic or somewhere?” Tolly wondered if they had phrased it that way on purpose, so that he was not required to answer. It was hard to say.
“May we discuss this later? I would like to shower and cut my hair, with your permission.”
“Sure.”
“And perhaps you might consider going to bed.”
“If I say ‘fuck off’ will you interpret that as an order?”
“Not any more,” Tolly said cheerfully.
“Fuck riiiiight off, Tolly.”
“Adorable.” He ran his fingers through Arden’s hair on the way past. They saw it coming, but they didn’t try to avoid it. With a feeling of self-congratulation, he listened to their heart skip. They were turning red again, and they almost certainly would forget the question.
Black Tolly emerged from the guest bathroom in an hour with short hair and short, smooth nails. Someone looking closely could see they were growing from his fingers in an odd, embedded way, but that couldn’t be helped yet. He wore his new jeans, pre-faded blue tee shirt, jacket, socks, and the brown leather sneakers. His new wallet was in his pocket and the phone was in his hand. Everything else went into the duffel bag or the washer in the laundry downstairs. He absently poured detergent one-handed as he started logging into accounts with the other.
He took the pile of cardboard and trash from the packages outside to find the bins. He stood by them for a moment, listening to the night. It was cloudy, and it had rained, leaving the smell of petrichor still lingering in the air. There was a feeling of heavy possibility that he now knew probably meant a change in air pressure, so it was likely going to storm. Wet grass brushed his new jeans.
He had shoes now, Tolly thought. And he had not been outside in twenty years.
So Tolly ran.
He circled the grounds, peered through the thickets into the wood, listened to the sounds of small creatures. Once he caught a common poorwill hawking. It was a big-headed little-beaked bird with feathers patterned like gray leaf litter, fluttering from its perch to snap at moths and darting back. In the darkness its eyes reflected moonlight like twin mirrors, common in all creatures with real night vision. It ignored him, though it could see his own eyes reflect in turn. He wasn’t close enough to be dangerous. He watched it for several minutes before he resumed his run.
Sights and scents and sounds flowed over him, around him, but now he was sufficiently master of himself to absorb it without being overwhelmed by it. At least, for a while. It was still long before dawn and his lower pant legs were wet with dew when he slipped back in through the back door, weary in mind and attention though not yet in body. The leather sneakers had kept his feet dry. He was not in particular need of a shower otherwise. Sweating was one of several functions that had perished with the original life of his body.
Arden was standing in the middle of the kitchen, staring at the ceiling. Tolly followed their gaze and found absolutely nothing except the industrial light fixture with the bare bulbs. They were shaking. “Arden?” Black Tolly said. His flickering glance found the Eye of Rule still on their finger.
“Something terrible is about to happen,” they said. @fleur-a-whump, @bitchaknso, @valravnthefrenchie, @thewhumpcaretaker

so this post by @ardentlake about the references to the drowned towns of wales in the way set all my neurons firing, because for real the way that the series takes these real and overwhelming violences on marginalized people (the drowned towns, industrial injury and death, systematic deprivation and alienation) and tells their story through surreal myth recounting is so fucking....
all i keep thinking about is how the way is in reality a work of gothic marxism? which margaret cohen describes as:
(1) the valorization of the realm of a culture’s ghosts and phantasms as a significant and rich field of social production rather than a mirage to be dispelled; (2) the valorization of a culture’s detritus and trivia as well as its strange and marginal practices; (3) a notion of critique moving beyond logical argument and the binary opposition of a phantasmagorical staging more closely resembling psychoanalytic therapy, privileging nonrational forms of ‘working through’ and regulated by overdetermination rather than dialectics; (4) a dehierarchization of the epistemological privilege accorded the visual in the direction of that integration of the senses dreamed of by Marx in The 1844 Manuscripts….and (5) a concomitant valorization of the sensuousness of the visual: the realm of of visual experience is opened to other possibilities that the accomplishment and/or figuration of rational demonstration.
like it's almost a textbook case?
(1) the ghost of denny driscoll as a literal ghost of himself but also a ghost of welsh working class struggle crushed by neoliberal capitalism exemplified by thatcherism. every time geoff sees denny's ghost or thinks about his death by suicide you see the past flashes of the miner's strike struggle being violently suppressed. but also their very first interaction is geoff clinging to 'rationality and sensibility' against denny's 'romance' and 'the fight' to try and maintain a fingernail grip on any remnants of bare survival in the miserable status-quo
owen seeing denny's ghost in the labyrinth of the drowned town in his dreams handing him the gift of united working class struggle against oppression - that if we're in conversation with our ghosts instead of dispelling them, we can learn key parts of our own present liberatory process - that we will then hand down as ghosts to the generations coming
(2) the valorisation of the "cultural detritus" - cohen talks about cultural detritus as the things that are seen as extraneous or superfluous to the capitalist ruling class - that can be anything from entire people as in the case of colonized and indigenous peoples at the sharp end of capitalist imperialism, down to the fragments of communal human existence that serve no capital gains - so like everything from our folk arts and narratives to the human experience of communal kindness and help.
you see this in the deep scars of alienation in the way from the drowned towns that were literally made into detritus by the English ruling class being the link between wakefulness and dreams and understanding, the red monk standing over the detritus of the walls of the original abbey smelting works, the pilot light of the factory as a bit of superstitious detritus cast away by the owning investment company even and especially in their attempt to 'better the factory and the town' (their profit margin).
how all of these things when embraced are can fuel the fight against emiseration and alienation
(3) the phantasmagorical staging of the dreaming, the withdrawal hallucinations, the ghosts, and the way those aren't discarded by the narrative. that they give insight into the waking moments of the escape, and even in the terror of the unknown ahead of them give them strength even as oppressive forces close in. how these moments of surrealism aren't removed from the characters' experiences but inform and hone their decisions.
(4) not discarding the sensory experiences of the characters that lie outside of the senses accepted as relevant to science and industry (how the characters start to become unalienated when they reclaim those sensory inputs). the ideas from marx's 1844 works cohen's referring to are that marx talks about alienation as an expression of how under a system of private property, the senses that confirm ownership are prioritised as not just all-important but the limitations of sensory experience. that in order to have a truly liberated human sensuality, we have to get rid of the system of private property.
you get nods to bridging that alienation in the way from how geoff can't shake the feelings churning in him from seeing a fellow worker's self-immolation, to the senses of comradery towards Anna that extend beyond the rigid bourgeois family unit even in the face of possibly being disappeared, to the feelings of wrongness and instinct that are leaned into by the entire group as they make their way through the dangers of the violent state surveillance hurdles of 'illegal' migration.
(5) but also embracing the senses that are seen as valid and rational but bringing them into their full expression by removing the false binary with the other possible senses of the phantasmagorical, psychological and dreaming, putting the characters as a direct opposition to the nostalgic rigid regurgitation of the repressive violence of the state. all of that as an antidote to the alienation that all of the characters feel as cast-offs of capitalism, imperialism, xenophobia. a way to make these broken characters take a step towards finding a measure of wholeness.
there's so much more there and i'm just vomiting out my immediate thoughts, but yeah imo the way is def a work that uses ideas of gothic marxism in its surreal speculative fictive narrative to tell the story of oppression from the point of view of the marginalised

#DevBlog: Bringing gender/sexuality into the conversation (with variables!)
A good piece of critique should haunt you. When someone (respectfully) points out a valid flaw or possible improvement, it sticks in your brain.
I don’t remember exactly when, but a player pointed out (respectfully) that they loved the relationship story with Marcel but found it weird that cagey, PDA-hating, UAE-born Marcel didn’t even comment on the fact that he fell for another boy in their playthrough. That’s not to say the Emirates exports raging homophobes… but there are certainly human rights infringements and cultural baggage.
Tumblr media
As a queer storyteller, there’s the temptation to just let that be. Lots of us deal with enough homophobia/transphobia in real life, it’s nice to exist in a world where we’re not facing off with it in every conversation. There’s the other option, “playersexual”, where you can romance characters regardless of the player character’s gender. I actual really like the “playersexual” option, there’s nothing as frustrating as getting into a romanceable character only for the romance route in front of you to slam shut…
[cough cough] Cullen in DAI or River Ward in Cyberpunk 2077… [cough cough]
But human relationships are complex. Even if a person dates people regardless of their gender, presentation and sexuality, how they interact in a relationship may change depending on their partner(s)’s identity. Even beyond romantic relationships, an enby person dealing with shopping for clothes might have a different experience than a cisgender woman, who would have a different experience than a cisgender man. You get the idea.
So haunted by the Marcel-dating-a-boy observation, I wanted to see how we could play around with that in LongStory 2.
Ladies, gentlemen, enby cuties and cryptids, I present: var_presentation and var_pronouns
Quick explainer: In game design terms, a variable is a condition, choice or quantity captured and stored by the game you’re playing. The classic variable you’ll see is the binary True or False, but things like whichever trash baby you’ve declared your undying love to in Baldur’s Gate 3, or how many dragon bones you have in Roadwarden, or which Wonders you’ve built in Civilization… uh, whatever one they’re on right now… are variables the game might check later to give you different options or outcomes.
Variables can also be strung together into combos, usually using “and” and “or” statements. You’ve done “this” or “that,” you’ve unlocked “this” and “that other thing” and “this other thing” too.
Our new variables are set while creating your character in LS2’s yearbook. var_presentation’s conditions are “masc” and “femme”, while var_pronouns’ are “They”, “He” and “She”. Without boiling things down to something gender essentialist, we can make some assumptions about characters that hopefully aren’t too jarring in terms of game logic. Someone who is var_pronouns “He” probably identifies as a boy to some degree, “She” will probably identify as a girl, while someone who chooses “They” pronouns probably identifies as non-binary in some way, no matter what their presentation is. This gets even more fun when you use other combinations. How might a character who uses “She” pronouns but chooses “masc” presentation interact with the world, and vice versa?
We’re not interested in you walking into every single conversation and having the character go “HELLO YOU USE ‘HE’ PRONOUNS AND ‘MASC’ PRESENTATION, THEREFORE YOU ARE A BOY.” But it does give us a little more complexity to play with. So back to Marcel.
Tumblr media
Let’s take a look at what’s going on here, game logic-wise. If you’re dating Marcel, you come to this dialogue branch. The game asks what pronoun you use: “He”. If you use something other than “He”, it elses you to the next section.
When I first wrote this scene I had it much more rigidly structured. To get this section of dialogue you had to be “He” AND “masc”—otherwise you would’ve gotten elsed—but I realized that was dumb. Boys can wear frickin’ skirts. So I cut the var_presentation check, but added in a little flourish if “His” presentation is “femme.”
Again, that’s not to say Marcel can’t be queer in some way if he’s dating a girl, or a non-binary person—actually, come to think of it, adding in some enby dialogue here would be really fun too… But by the game’s logic (and the principles of heterosexism!) Marcel went away to Dubai and didn’t really have to think about what it meant to date a girl. He has enough on his plate already.
We use these variables in other places too—a non-binary character gets some enby recognition from enby superstar Em, or the additional tension of back to school clothes shopping with your mom. Again, our goal with this isn’t to make gender and sexuality something rigid and prescribed. We just want to give our players the chance to explore a range of relationships, identities and stories!

TODAY'S LESSONS ON GENDER (1) "Gender Neutral", including bathrooms, isn't new or political. See section "Gender Neutral Bathrooms". (2) "Binary Gender" doesn't exist. It never has. See section "Human Gender". (3) Transgender and non-binary are not the same thing. Learn more here - https://yourdandi.co.uk/myth-busting-non-binary/
You are free to comment whatever you like. However, using words like 'woke' or 'liberalism' reveal you want attention/reaction (you're a jerk), and don't care about accuracy (too lazy to learn anything). GENDER NEUTRAL BATHROOMS These types of bathrooms have always existed. Beyond decades old. Example is when I was in the Air Force in 1990. The privacy was only about chest and down. I could turn my head and start talking to a male colleague while we were both on the 'pot'. We also shared tents. None of this is an abnormal thing. Nor is any of it 'sexy'. Another example is when they deployed soldiers for Desert Storm and were initially setting up camps in the desert. Types of gender neutral bathrooms: (1) Nearly no privacy, like the one I used in 1990. (2) It's a private bathroom where the door can lock. (3) It's a bathroom of typical male design in that it has both stalls and urinals. Both genders can use it at the same time. Even companies have done this as it makes sense. Cost is just one reason. Because some conservatives allow themselves to get triggered by hearing anything 'gender neutral', many places changed the door sign to 'family bathroom'. Two examples of why they are needed: (1) A father trying to figure out how best to take his 3 year old to the bathroom at a baseball game. Design 2, now more commonly known as a family bathroom, is what they need. (2) Large venues would benefit from having bathrooms with design three. Physically, women need to sit down to pee while men can stand. Men's bathrooms often have just as many stalls as the woman's, but then also urinals. I can tell you from years of experience that women's bathrooms at these places almost always have longer lines. So, am I whining? Well, remember this when you (men) are at a concert with your daughter or significant other, she needs to go but wants you to go with her for safety (especially with your daughter), and you two are standing in line for 30 minutes for her to be able to go, and you both are missing a fantastic portion of the concert. And the list goes on.
HUMAN GENDER For those of us who didn't sleep through the required biology class in high school, you probably learned the term hermaphrodite. This term is still used but excludes mammals and birds. For humans, one of the terms is intersex. We can be born with both female and male genitalia. Or it doesn't becomes outwardly clear until later on in childhood. Some of the sex differentiation disorder terms are Ambiguous genitalia, Congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Gonadal dysgenesis, and DSD.
HERMAPHRODITISM - The condition of having both male and female reproductive organs. Found in the animals (ex. starfish) and other life (ex. most flowering plants). If we don't include the insects, about 33% of all animal species are hermaphroditic creatures. All mammals, including humans, and all birds, fall into the 77% that are not.
INTERSEX - When a creature isn't born as specifically male or female. This includes combinations between inside the body (features of both genders or neither) and what is visible externally. It may be apparent upon the birth or not until later in childhood. Older term that is no longer technically correct but still used is ambiguous genitalia.

5 Powerful, Uplifting Ways Jo Frost Inspires Parents to Teach Acceptance
Jo Frost is more than a rallying cry—it’s a blueprint for raising kinder, braver kids. In a June 3 Instagram post, the Supernanny star described watching a teen sob after hearing, “God doesn’t love you because you’re gay.” Frost wrote, “My empathetic heart fractured as I watched her cry,” and urged parents to treat acceptance as a household norm, not a holiday slogan. Why Modeling Matters “Understand this modeling of humanity starts under your roof first,” she explained. Researchers confirm the point: children copy what they see. A 2024 review in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry found that kids exposed to inclusive dialogue at home were 42 percent more likely to defend bullied peers a JCPP. When you, the adult, greet LGBTQ+ relatives warmly or challenge a slur, your child learns that dignity isn’t negotiable. The Three Pillars of the Jo Frost Pride Approach Before diving into each pillar, remember that the Jo Frost framework is designed to be practical, not abstract. These guidelines are meant to slot seamlessly into ordinary routines—from school-run chats to bedtime stories—so you won’t need a degree in child psychology to apply them. Think of the pillars as daily touchpoints: brief, repeatable moments that slowly recalibrate how your family talks about difference. Consistency is key; children learn far more from a steady drip of modeled kindness than from a single, grand lecture. 1. Open, Age-Appropriate Conversations Label identities—gay, trans, non-binary—without judgment. Answer questions honestly: “Some boys love boys, and some girls love girls; all love is okay.” 2. Clear Lines Against Hate Kindness does not mean tolerating slurs. Frost’s rule of thumb: “Respect everyone; confront dehumanization.” Role-play responses so kids can safely practice saying, “That word hurts people, please stop.” 3. Everyday Visibility Display inclusive storybooks such as Julian Is a Mermaid on the shelf. Stream a virtual Pride parade and discuss why it exists. Follow LGBTQ-positive creators so your social feed reflects real-world diversity. For additional guidance, bookmark The Trevor Project’s Parent & Caregiver Guide—a concise primer on supporting youth who may come out under your roof. Tackling Faith-Based Objections Some caregivers fear that acceptance clashes with doctrine. Frost suggests separating belief from behavior: you can keep your convictions and treat every person with dignity. Pastor-led initiatives like Free Mom Hugs show how faith communities can affirm LGBTQ+ youth without abandoning scripture (Free Mom Hugs). Invite children to witness that nuance firsthand. Community Response: Visibility Begets Change The post’s comment section overflowed with thanks: “Love you, Jo, and Happy Pride! Your support means everything.” Celebrity backing has real-world impact. A 2025 Gallup poll revealed that adults exposed to positive LGBTQ+ messages from public figures were 18 percent more likely to endorse inclusive school policies. Each share of Jo Frost widens the circle. Micro-Habits to Cement Respect Dinner-Table Gratitude: Everyone names one thing they admire about a person different from them. Library Mission: Once a month, children choose a book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist. Stop-Think-Speak: Before reacting in conflict, pause, breathe, and craft a respectful reply. Neuroscientists note that repeated empathetic acts strengthen the brain’s medial prefrontal cortex, the seat of perspective-taking—proof that kindness can become hard-wired. Beyond June: Parenting as Year-Round Activism Pride Month ends, but prejudice doesn’t. Embedding Jo Frost principles into bedtime stories, playground disputes, and faith discussions raises kids who know that love isn’t scarce. As Frost puts it, “Our planet will be a better place if we uplift kindness, empathy, and respect for all.” Teach it today, model it tomorrow, and watch the ripple effects last a lifetime. Share your thoughts! Join the conversation in the comments below, and remember to keep it respectful.

"I Don’t Know Who I Am, but My Followers Think I’m Funny"
Keywords: gaming communities, transhumanism, digital identity, augmented reality
It’s strange having an audience for your identity crisis. One moment you’re tweaking an avatar, the next you’re questioning if that pixelated version feels more real than you do. When followers know your face but not your name, and your body is an animation - what even counts as ‘you’?
In today’s gaming worlds, identity is fluid, digitized, and often untethered from physical reality. No longer confined to controllers and screens, gaming communities are now vibrant spaces of self-construction, performance, and resistance, where technology becomes an extension of the self.
As virtual avatars and AR interfaces evolve, transhumanism - the idea that humans can transcend biological limitations through tech has moved from science fiction to everyday digital experience. For many gamers, especially VTubers, augmented personas allow them to exist beyond their physical form, shaping new modes of expression, identity, and even survival.
VTubers like Ironmouse and CodeMiko highlight how AR-fueled avatars enable creators to navigate limitations - illness, social anxiety, or platform bias - and present versions of themselves that feel more authentic than their offline counterparts. Ironmouse, for instance, battles a chronic illness that confines her physically. Still, through her avatar, she becomes one of the top streamers on Twitch, proving that digital identity can offer liberation from bodily restrictions.
Yet this freedom is paradoxical. Platforms like Twitch impose rules of engagement that push creators toward algorithmically favorable behaviors. Here, identity is curated, not just for self-expression, but for visibility and monetization. As Jenkins (2006, p. 3) notes, convergence culture merges media consumption with production, but also with corporate control, where personal narratives are shaped by platform logic.
Gaming itself, as Suits (1978) argues, is a voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles, a space where we willingly engage in challenges that construct meaning. But in today’s networked play, those “obstacles” are often social and structural—like gender norms, ableism, and platform policies. For transgender and non-binary gamers, avatars and modding allow them to bypass these constraints, crafting ideal selves that affirm their identities in ways offline spaces may not permit.
In Final Fantasy XIV, VRChat, and countless indie titles, players explore identity, using avatars to test and perform gender, personality, and style. This isn’t escapism - it’s self-realization. Jenkins (2006, p. 50) emphasizes that fan communities are sites of grassroots creativity, where users collaborate to make spaces more inclusive, personal, and empowering.
While gaming communities offer tools for autonomy, they also expose players to surveillance, harassment, and exploitation. Parasocial relationships—the one-sided intimacy between streamers and viewers—can become both empowering and dangerous, as seen in the case of VTuber Vox Akuma, who publicly addressed obsessive fan behavior. These moments underscore the precarity of digital identity—a space of freedom and exposure.
As transhumanist tech like AR, facial recognition, and AI deepen, the tension grows: Are we enhancing our identities, or surrendering them to algorithms?
Gaming offers a glimpse into a participatory future, where users co-create culture, challenge norms, and explore selfhood. But this future is not guaranteed. The same tools that enable freedom can also enforce conformity, depending on who holds the power.

Is sam smith truly sam smith or is he a ferret with a bisexual awakening?
The Sam Smith Ferret Hypothesis: A Scientific Inquiry into the Metaphysical and Bisexual Awakening Properties of Sam Smith
Abstract
The entity known as "Sam Smith" has long been assumed to be a singular human individual. However, emerging data suggests a more complex reality. This paper examines the hypothesis that Sam Smith is, in fact, a hyper-intelligent, metaphysically enhanced ferret experiencing a continuous state of bisexual awakening. Through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating quantum physics, ethology, gender studies, and chaotic bisexual energy theory, we aim to unravel the true nature of Sam Smith’s existence.
Introduction
At a cursory glance, Sam Smith appears to be a British singer-songwriter with an extensive vocal range and a proclivity for fashion-forward aesthetics. However, closer analysis reveals anomalies that cannot be explained by traditional human biology. This study posits that Sam Smith is a highly evolved ferret operating at a vibrational frequency inaccessible to the untrained mind.
Ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) are known for their elongated physical form, boundless energy, and unpredictable behaviors, which align with the queer experience—often described as chaotic, fluid, and resistant to categorization. Furthermore, the bisexual awakening process is frequently accompanied by a sudden, overwhelming realization that one has been unknowingly queer for their entire existence, much like a ferret realizing that it was, in fact, born to cause absolute mayhem in a confined space.
Methodology
To determine whether Sam Smith is a ferret undergoing an eternal state of bisexual awakening, we utilized the following scientific frameworks:
Quantum Bisexuality Theory (QBT) – Examines how individuals can simultaneously exist in multiple states of attraction until observed in a definitive context (i.e., experiencing the bisexual "oh." moment).
Ferret Kinetic Analysis (FKA) – Investigates behavioral correlations between Sam Smith’s movements and the well-documented "ferret war dance," a phenomenon characterized by chaotic energy bursts and unpredictable shifts in direction.
Non-Binary Existential Transcendence (NBET) – Evaluates how Sam Smith, like a Schrödinger's ferret, exists beyond the binary constraints of both gender and human categorization, operating within a fluid spectrum of queer energy.
Results & Discussion
1. The Quantum Bisexuality Principle
Sam Smith’s aesthetic and artistic evolution mirrors the classic bisexual trajectory: initial subdued presentation followed by a gradual descent into full-fledged queer divinity. This parallels the theoretical framework wherein bisexuality remains in a quantum state until a pivotal moment collapses the wave function into “oh. I get it now.”
Furthermore, much like bisexuals experiencing this revelation, ferrets exhibit sudden bursts of existential realization, often expressed through erratic movement and inexplicable vocalizations. Sam Smith's musical progression follows this pattern, transitioning from melancholy ballads to unapologetically extravagant gender-fluid performances, indicative of advanced bisexual-ferret hybridization.
2. The Ferret Kinetic Hypothesis
Sam Smith’s stage movements contain undeniable traces of the ferret war dance—a frenetic, unpredictable series of hops and twists performed when a ferret reaches peak excitation. Observational footage from concerts and music videos suggests that Sam Smith, much like a ferret experiencing hyper-energetic transcendence, moves with a level of chaotic elegance previously undocumented in human subjects.
Additionally, interviews suggest a playful yet mischievous nature, a defining characteristic of both bisexuals and ferrets. Their ability to seamlessly oscillate between ethereal softness and absolute feral energy aligns perfectly with observed ferret behavioral patterns.
3. Non-Binary Existential Transcendence
Sam Smith openly embraces non-binary identity, existing outside traditional gender frameworks. Ferrets, too, defy categorization—neither fully domesticated nor entirely wild, they are liminal creatures, much like non-binary individuals rejecting rigid structures. If gender is a construct, then the ferret is the anti-construct, an entity that exists purely to disrupt preconceived notions of movement, containment, and societal expectation.
Conclusion
The overwhelming evidence supports the hypothesis that Sam Smith is, in fact, a sentient ferret experiencing an eternal bisexual awakening. Their ability to oscillate between states of gender, energy, and chaotic movement mirrors the fundamental principles of both quantum bisexuality and ferret ethology.
Future research should explore whether Sam Smith is a singular entity or part of a larger collective of cosmically enlightened ferrets, as well as the implications of ferret-like behavior in other prominent queer figures. Given the increasing visibility of non-binary and bisexual identities, it is likely that we are witnessing the evolutionary merging of queerness and ferrethood into a singular, transcendent force.

Distinctive Features of Gayane Quaternary Logic (GL4)
Gayane Quaternary Logic, or GL4, is often mistakenly confused with Belief Logic. Although both address issues of uncertainty, they serve very different purposes. While Belief Logic focuses on modeling the beliefs and convictions of subjects, GL4 is dedicated to the statuses of truth and inevitability. Below, we detail the unique features of GL4 based on its design and value system.
1. A Rich Value System
GL4 is characterized by a set of 16 distinct values. These values arise from various combinations of its four elementary values:
E (Inevitable True)
D (Avoidable True)
C (Avoidable False)
B (Inevitable False)
Each of these elementary values not only conveys a truth value but also carries an associated status of inevitability. This means that even if one uses only these four values, GL4 remains more stringent than classical binary logic because every elementary value (except the pure truth status) includes a dimension of inevitability.
2. Comparison with Classical and Belief Logics
The elementary values (E, D, C, B) in GL4 are designed for mathematical rigor. When limited to these four values, GL4 enforces a level of strictness that surpasses binary logic, as it distinguishes not only between true and false but also between their inevitability.
In contrast, the basic values—often denoted as F, T, P, I—are slightly more flexible and bear similarities to classical, modal, and even ternary logics, as well as to Belief Logic. These basic values express only truth or inevitability without combining them, which aligns them more closely with traditional logical systems.
3. The Flexibility of Combined Values
Beyond the elementary and basic values, GL4 incorporates additional composite values such as A, G, H, J, K, L, M, and N. These combined values provide an even greater degree of flexibility than modal, ternary, or Belief Logic. They represent various combinations of the elementary components, allowing GL4 to model a wide range of scenarios and subtle nuances.
For example, the value N is not a contradiction. Rather, it represents a superposition—an aggregation of the elementary values {E, B, C, D}—akin to an undefined or all-encompassing answer in other systems.
Moreover, it is important to note that the values C and D are not “probable” falsehoods or truths in the sense of a probabilistic mix. They are 100% false or 100% true, but their conditions (or causes) are avoidable. This distinction emphasizes that GL4 is concerned with determinacy and the underlying causes of truth or falsehood.
4. Intuitive Foundations Coupled with Mathematical Rigor
GL4 is built upon intuitive concepts like truth and inevitability. These ideas, while easily grasped on a basic level, have been rigorously formalized to serve as the foundational building blocks for the system. The elementary values (E, D, C, B) capture these intuitive notions in a precise, mathematical form, ensuring both clarity and strictness.
Importantly, GL4 is not a mere hybrid of modal, classical, ternary, or Belief Logic. Its guiding principle was to identify the most elementary “building blocks” and to construct a system capable of expressing all possible variants of truth status and inevitability. The diverse range of values in GL4 results from this systematic development, rather than from an arbitrary mixture of existing approaches.
5. Beyond Conventional Operators
Unlike many traditional logical systems that restrict themselves to standard operators like OR, AND, equivalence, XOR, minimum, and maximum, GL4 is open to the development of specialized operators tailored for both technical and humanities-related tasks.
In GL4, both binary (two-place) and unary (one-place) operators play crucial roles. The system’s operator set is not limited to common logical connectors; rather, it can incorporate a wide array of operations designed to capture the nuances of the 16-value system. This expansive approach enhances the adaptability and application of GL4 across various domains.
6. Conclusion
Gayane Quaternary Logic (GL4) is a unique logical system distinguished by its comprehensive value structure and dual dimensions of truth and inevitability. Its 16 values, formed from combinations of four elementary states, provide a level of expressiveness and nuance that far exceeds classical binary logic. Unlike Belief Logic—which centers on modeling subjective beliefs—GL4 offers a strictly formalized yet flexible framework that can capture both absolute and conditional scenarios. By embracing both rigorous mathematical foundations and intuitive concepts, GL4 stands as a self-contained system capable of modeling a vast spectrum of logical phenomena—from rigid truths to adaptive, context-dependent outcomes.

A short-ish story I made about my character named Xeno spiderwell finding out about Xenogenders. [inspired by a conversation I had with some friends on discord]
Aggro and Ren are sitting at the kitchen table, munching on snacks they swiped from a nearby supermarket. “I love how we both always end up finding the universes with the best candy” Aggro boasts while happily gnawing on 3 conjoined strawberry flavoured starbursts. “Real. Some of These places really do know how to put the right amount of sugar in their treats," Ren says, nodding in agreement with Aggro. After a few minutes of enjoying their sweet feast, Xeno walks into the room, clearly searching for something. "Oh, hey Xeno!" Aggro greets him as he enters the kitchen. "Heyo," Xeno replies. "Want some candy? We’ve got a pile that doesn’t seem to be getting any smaller," Ren offers. "Maybe later, I’m looking for something," Xeno mumbles, distracted as he opens and closes cupboards. "What’re you looking for?" Aggro asks. "I bought a packet of pizza bites a couple days ago and forgot where I put it," Xeno answers. Pofoyo comes down the stairs near the kitchen and overhears Xeno. He frowns, realizing he ate the pizza bites, not knowing they belonged to Xeno. Slowly, he approaches Xeno to apologize, feeling guilty. "Oh hey, lil' buddy! What's up?" Xeno greets him. "I'm sorry, Xen’. I ate your pizza bites yesterday," Pofoyo says sadly. "I didn’t know they were yours.”
“Welp, at least I know where they went now. It’s ok, Pofoyo. I can always get more” Xeno responds to reassure him. Pofoyo immediately begins to smile again as the guilt finally disappears. “Yay!” He shouts and then waddles back up the stairs doing the :3 face. "What are you two up to today?" Xeno asks Aggro and Ren. "Nothing much, just messing around. You?" Ren replies. "Eh, not sure. Just thinking about pacing around the house until I figure something out," Xeno says as they start to leave the room. "Fair enough. We could help you find something fun to do if you want, right, Aggro?" Ren suggests, looking at Aggro. “Oooh!Yes! That reminds me, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask ya Xen” Aggro states as he jumps up. “Hm?” Xeno questions in a muttery tone. “Why’d you let out a weird hmph noise when me and Ren brought up xenogenders in a conversation last night?” Aggro ponders.
“Well, I’d thought you called my name at first, then I got confused because you started talking about random genders I didn’t know were possible to exist” Xeno clarifies, worried that they came off as rude yesterday. “Fair enough. I can see the confusion in that” Ren comments. “Speaking of Xenogenders, what are you guys’ thoughts on them?” He asks, eagerly curious. “They seem pretty cool. Creative too” Aggro answers with a smile on his face.  “What is a…xenogender?” Xeno inquires.
“Oh!In short, Xenogenders is a thingy where one's gender goes beyond the human understandings of gender and is instead crafted by other methods of gender categorizing. This  does include genders that are related to animals, plants, or just generally things  that aren’t traditionally a gender. They are often used by the neurodivergent community (people with ADHD, autism, OCD, etc.), but the term is not exclusive. From what I know, at least.” Aggro explains.
“Hmm..Interesting!” Xeno enounces. This sudden wham of information opened a door in their head. Endless gender related possibilities. “So my gender could be a spider?” They wonder. “Yup!It’d be called Spidergender methinks. There are other suffixes you can add to xenogender terms you make though. -ic, -ish, -ain , binary, and more” Ren assures. “Woah!” Xeno lightly exclaims with intrigued surprise. “Do you too go by any xenogenders?” Xeno curiously asks. “Not yet. We currently have a bunch of xenogender terms saved together-” Aggro replies, Ren finishing his sentence. “-and tonight we’re gonna go through all of em to see if we wanna identify as any of them”
“Cool” Xeno spouts. “Anywho, I think that’s given me something to do today, thanks you two!” They announce, walking up the stairs and waving goodbye to the duo. “You’re welcome dude!” The duo chimes. Xeno rushes to their bedroom, eager to dive into their project. They sit at their computer, researching how to create xenogenders. After gathering the information, they coin their own variation of spidergender, tailor-made just for themselves. The process is thrilling, their mind buzzing with creativity. Alongside this new identity, they design a flag, print it out, and proudly stick it on their wall to the left. With every step, they feel a growing sense of satisfaction. Satisfied with their work, they grin. Taking a step back, they admire the flag on their wall, feeling a rush of pride and accomplishment. It's not just a flag, it's a symbol of their self-expression and individuality.
