Tbh nobody draws darkstalker big enough. I remember him like. Holding full grown nightwings in the palm of his hand. He is MASSIVE. He dwarfs all other living creatures. He’s kind of an eldritch abomination in my eyes

okay
this has been bothering me more the think about it
and before i start rambling i want to specify that i havent read the books in a hot minute so take everything i say with a huge grain of salt
So, Foeslayer, right?
Highly disliked by IceWings, surrounded by myths and rumors, married to Arctic, etc etc
Mother of Darkstalker and Whiteout.
She is a mother. Foeslayer is a mother.
If I recall correctly, Darkstalker clearly favored her over Arctic since Arctic sucked as a father and had favoritism amongst his two children (in other words, his favorite was Whiteout).
Now, I don't recall once Foeslayer really showing any sort of major "i cant stand my son" sort of thoughts, at least before the entire being-captured-by-Diamond thing.
Fast forward 2000+ years, and Darkstalker is released, he tries to take over Pyrrhia, yada yada. Foeslayer is revealed to be alive as well.
Now, it comes to the point where Darkstalker is about to eat the strawberry.
Foeslayer is very much aware of all the trouble he has caused and insists that he eats the strawberry so he can turn into a different dragonet entirely.
She is telling her son, her flesh and blood, to turn into a different dragon.
She wanted to replace her son.
Her child.
And for what? So the plot can be finished?
Yeah, sure, both of them can start over now and Darkstalker is no longer plaguing the land, but she essentially killed her son in order to replace him with a different person entirely.
What kind of a mother does that?
Ik a lot of the parent characters in WoF are terrible, but Foeslayer (or now Hope) was sort of supposed to be the better parent?? She's really not much better than Arctic with that in mind.
Mind you, this was also forced upon Darkstalker. He never wanted this. He didn't choose to change.
I guess this just adds to the entire ending of Arc 2 being... not great.
ofc, in the end, this is just some silly kids series on dragons and maybe im over-speculating on characters.
I do have other thoughts on Foeslayer/Hope, but I just wanted to throw these thoughts out there into the wild.

whats ur opinion on dragons having different houses bc of class or tribe? i love dragon architecture </3
I'm such a fan of dragon architecture oh my god. One of my biggest worldbuilding gripes (besides the lack of clarity around food/cooking) is that the actual housing arrangements of the dragons are so vague????? Like towns are a thing but also Tui seems to imply most dragons sleep in caves even though it makes no sense for any of the other tribes???? like ma'am most of your dragons live in swamps, jungles, or deserts where the hell are they even finding them
Basically, we have functionally no point of reference for anyone who isn't royalty (Winter, Turtle) or grew up in such specific circumstances that don't reflect back onto broader dragon society to the point where their input is rather moot (Moon, the DoD, Peril, Qibli). Qibli is the closest thing we have but the Scorpion Den is a combination of a shanty town and refugee camp that makes it harder to draw conclusions for the rest of the population. (We're also not counting Darkstalker bc. well. 2000 years)
For my writing, my stance is usually that dragons are primarily nomadic. Dragons who live in/around towns stay there primarily for reasons like child-raising, business, injury, apprenticeships, or just laying low/blending into a crowd. Like with how dragons don't need to cook their food to eat it, dragons are not dependent on housing and are able to comfortably sleep and live outside (barring extremes such as the central desert or really the entire Ice Kingdom). So, the exact permanence of a dragon's stay in town is situational and tribe/job-dependent more than anything else.
As far as the tribes go, Icewings and Nightwings are the most home/town oriented tribes- both tribes have the rarest approach to housing in that almost all members of both tribes live and sleep primarily in one home location that they return to for the majority of their life. For Icewings, this usually looks like multi-generational families that split off into new homes/houses only once there's a real need for it. On the other hand, Nightwings living on the volcano lived primarily together in caves/dormitories divided by age- even though this no longer exists, most Nightwing towns and houses involve many shared buildings and resemble something more like tight clumps of houses or caves.
For the majority of the tribes (Skywings, Sandwings, Mudwings, Rainwings), most dragons will have multiple houses that they move between as needed or wanted. While outliers exist, most dragons have at minimum two homes/dens: one in a more populated area that might operate as a job homebase or a place to receive guests, and a more isolated, private home that exists for the dragon in question to stash any items of importance or valuables, as well as eat and sleep. For more nomadic dragons, banks exist in towns to hold treasure, freeing up their secondary/non-work den to be little more than a shack or burrow with sleeping arrangements. More houses usually equals more money/class power, up to a certain point, where you start to see buildings more akin to Vulture's mansion or even the Royal Palaces, where one building or collection of buildings is large/grandiose enough to host other people's jobs and living spaces (on a related note, gardening is a very stereotypical high class hobby to have, as it shows both an abundance of leisure time and of space).
Between these tribes, Skywings are the most town and home oriented- Skywings often live primarily in towns and only leave for what is essentially a nesting den, as without rudimentary flight skills, Skywing towns are borderline unnavigable and occasionally hazardous for dragonets. Even with their relative isolation, nesting dens in the past have often been located near other nesting dens, creating something of a nesting village for Skywings parents to socialize and raise their hatchlings. Queen Scarlet's reign did irreparable damage to this style of collective child-rearing and nesting dens as a whole. With her breeding programs, most Skywings were forced into partnerships for the sole reason of producing more future Skywing soldiers, and the majority of eggs were instead stored in mass hatcheries until their hatching day.
On the other hand, Mudwings are the most isolated and nomadic, in part due to the structure of sib groups creating a situation where most Mudwings hatch into life with a social network already established. The Mud Kingdom is also temperate enough that housing isn't always necessary, and most Mudwings only congregate in towns for business or seeking a mate.
Finally, Seawings are almost entirely nomadic, and will usually move between a territory, with small dens and hoards scattered within. These territories can hold many multiple families, or they can exist for a single dragon- Seawing property laws are almost nonexistent and mostly maintained by honor and frequent patrolling of the territory to maintain order and mark it as lived space. These territories aren't uninhabited land either- Seawings will grow seaweed and herd schools of fish on their territory, and many take a certain landscaper-esque role, shaping the terrain into something aesthetically pleasing or useful to the inhabitant and helping signal to other Seawings that the land is occupied. One of the few times Seawings will settle in one den or space is for a hatching den- this lasts from the laying of the eggs until the hatchlings become able to swim well enough to keep up with their parents.
I've been pretty burnt out on WOF writing for a while, but this was honestly a refreshing change of pace from what I've been working on recently. Thanks for giving me an excuse to ramble about dragon housing !! I'd love to hear what other ppl think, the more headcanons the merrier :>

.....Older sibling.....Wings of fire x older sibling!reader
Characters: Moonwatcher,Darkstalker,Qibli,Winter,Peril,Tsunami, Starlight.
Moonwatcher:
Moon is very glad that she has someone who can guide her, encourage her, and just listen to her. You, like her, grew up in the Rainforest, so you can read minds, which makes it easier to understand her shy personality.
It was you who taught her how to hunt, so when Qibli asked her how she learned to hunt so well, she answered with a little pride, "My eldest sibling taught me that. He's quite good at hunting."
(And Qibli couldn't help but feel a small thread of envy, but he noted and analyzed this information in his head, realizing that she was on good terms with her older sibling.)
She loves spending time with you and you don't even have to say it out loud because you already know the answer thanks to mind reading. And she likes to spend time with you only when you are alone, away from everyone, where there is no one but you. Because with you she behaves more relaxed.
When Moonwatcher is nervous, she loves it when you put your paw on her shoulder, hug her with your wing, or touch her tail with your tail. This calms her down.
Kinkajou loves it when you come to visit her friend because you've become the big sister of the whole Jade mountain academy. And Qibli loves Kinkajou even more when you come over because he feels the care of an older sibling, which he never felt despite having an older brother and older sister.
Guess who Moon and Qibli asked for help when they couldn’t normally express their feelings for each other.(obviously they did it in secret from each other, while you giggled because they didn't know that their other half was asking you for help:})
Darkstalker:
It is reasonable to assume that you were the one protecting Darkstalker and your little sister from their parents. He remembers how you covered their ears with your paws and wings so that they could not hear their parents' screams.
He swore that when he killed Arctic, you would live happily. That's how it was....was.
While the Icewings didn't kill you, as revenge against Darkstalker. Whiteout took your death hard, as did Darkstalker, but he tried to cheer up his sister while he was in unimaginable pain. From the realization that even his magic can't bring you back. Nothing can bring you back.
He didn't understand why this world was so unfair and cruel. Were you guilty of anything? Were you guilty of smiling warmly at Whiteout and Darkstalker when they succeeded? That you comforted them after nightmares late at night? That you took care of them out of the whole family? Was that your karma?!
When he woke up after 2000 years of sleep, the biggest reason for his hatred of the Icewings was your death. And when his mother was freed, a tiny hope lit up his petrified heart that you're alive too. But you were still dead. Lying in the damp earth, until all that's left of you is memories, until even your bones have decomposed over time.
Qibli:
Qibli always wanted to know why you were so soft towards him. You gave him the last bits of food, even though you were hungry (and it doesn't lead to anything good), protected him from other siblings, mother and grandfather. And even if you could somehow fight back against your brother and sister, your mother and grandfather were merciless.
When you came to Thorn, he thought he could finally repay you in kind. Sometimes he did, but most of the time there was no way to repay your kindness. You caught a lot of crimes, and of course,Qibli was known to many. You were like him, but more agile in this life. You noticed more details than anyone who knew the dragon you were talking to, and could easily understand the motive his actions. From one glance and dialogue.
He always admired you and loved you. After all, you are the only one who could listen to him, prompt him and direct him on the right path. And although he partly understands why you are so cautious and distrustful towards other dragons, but he can't be as distrustful as you are (which you're actually glad about, because it's not a good feeling when you can't just start trusting a dragon because of your experience.)
Qibli is also not against physical contact, but he prefers do it alone, because yes, the past speaks to both of you. It calms him when you wrap your wings around him, allowing him to hide from the world and just let himself rest.
Winter:
Winter is more pleased than ever to have someone to whom he can pour out his problems. As the eldest of the family, you have many tasks to do, such as training, lessons, and many other things, which is why you have VERY LITTLE time to eve n talk to other brothers and sisters.
But from time to time, when you would free time, you prefer to spend it with Winter and Icicle under the guise of training. After the "death" of Hailstorm, you became even more worried about the younger siblings, although you masterfully hid it.
You are the one who improves Winter's skills, cleverly changing the subject when his parents call him worthless again.
When Hailstorm returned, your joy knew no bounds. Then the idea arose in Winter's head that perhaps you, Winter and Hailstorm could spend time together as before (but his hopes were not justified, as sad as it was.)
You visit him at the shelter whenever possible, and he tells you about people with such enthusiasm that your head and ears may start to hurt from the hum. But what wouldn't you do for your brother's happiness, right?
Peril:
You are probably the only dragon who has never been afraid of her. Since her hatching, you have been burned by her scales, but this has never been the cause of your fear. Nothing has made you afraid of Peril.
You tried to shield your little sister from the arena fights, but in her stupidity, she continued to blindly trust Scarlet. Until she met Clay, your words on this matter did not take her seriously.
When Ruby took the throne, things with your sister improved thanks to Clay, even if Peril was banished from the Skywing kingdom.
She began to spend more time with you, and often her conversations turned to Clay. She spoke of him more than often, and several times you teased her about it, to which she bristled, blushed and ran away. You laughed at her and decided to help her with this (which, in general, worked.)
When her scales stopped being deadly because of the scroll, she flew at full speed to hug you. It was the best feeling in her life.
And she wouldn't lie to herself that she was upset when her fire scales returned, even if it was by her own free will. She would like to hug you many more times:(
Tsunami:
Both she and you were stunned when you met. It was surprising on your part that your little sister was standing in front of you right now, and it was surprising on her part that her older sibling was standing in front of her. But she was very happy to finally meet you. In no time, you became her sibling-friend (and she is more than happy with that.)
She loves to explore the sea palace with you, while you tell her about every painting, every exhibit and decoration. She never really liked history, but when you tell it, for some reason she becomes very interested.
But as much as she enjoyed listening to you, she couldn't stay in that restrictive palace any longer, so she gave up her royal life. You were understanding, and honestly, she was a little surprised by this (in a good way).
You often visit her at the academy, and she is only too happy to chat with you.
Starlight:
Like your father, you've always been interested in science. That's why Starlight is sooo happy to talk to you, because there's something to talk about. When you first met,you helped your father (carrying things and other small tasks), but you looked as if this work, and especially your father's work, was so exhausting you that you would soon fall from exhaustion.Starlight isn't stupid and he understands that you were forced to do this and that you feel sorry for the Rainwings too. He thought you were the only Nightwing who had empathy.
Throughout his stay on the volcano, you and he worked out a plan to free the Rainwings and escape. At first you were hesitant about the whole thing, because even if you didn't torture the Rainwings, you did help your father endure those horrible things. You didn't think you deserved forgiveness. But Starlight convinced you to run away with him because you weren't the one who willingly brought pain to dragons.
In fact, you calmed the Rainwings and brought them as much food as possible so that they would not die of hunger, but you never thought that this would help them in any way.... But it atoned for your guilt a little.
....Since you were threatened with death under absolutely any circumstances, it was very brave of you to do this. You even hissed at the cruel guards when they mocked the rainwings,so you became their little hope for liberation. And few actually held a grudge against you, because you saved them so many times.
When Starlight went blind, you were always there, helping him with everything. You also look in on your little brother in the library too often (so Glory sometimes gives you the sideways glances, but don't worry about it.)
Starlight secretly loves to cuddle with you, but he will never admit it, so feel free to spoil your little brother with hugs!=)
//Thank you for reading, my little dragons! I think we need more format with Wings of Fire characters😼 So I'll be happy to spoil you with this content! Today I took an unusual format for this book, because I haven't seen any "Sibling" headcanons with Wings of Fire anywhere.
With love, Snanieee!❥

ROUND 1B, MATCH 7 OUT OF 16!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Darkstalker:
• A dragon who has mindreading powers, future sight and a magical that can let him enchant whoever and whatever he wants. He’s also a iconic and well-written manipulative villain within the series. He’s been enchanted to be unconscious and asleep for 2,000 years by a enchanted bracelet until he woke up from it snapping from a earthquake.
This fool sleeps for 2000 years and the first thing he does when he wakes up is cause problems. Good for him.
Evil dragon with extraordinarily powerful magic who made himself immortal and invulnerable, so his best friend and girlfriend were forced to stop him by putting him into a magical deep sleep under a mountain forever. But then 2000 years later an earthquake breaks the enchantment and he wakes up to begin his second reign of terror...
He's the best because he's actually the worst. Started out as a pretty nice guy with insane magical powers and then became a genocidal maniac with a god complex so his girlfriend had to betray him with a magic bracelet that put him to sleep under a mountain, where he stayed for like a thousand years until an earthquake broke the bracelet and he awoke to cause problems again only to be defeated via magic strawberry. Also he mind controlled his shitty dad into disemboweling himself
Arokh:
He's a dragon who fell into a stone sleep for 600 years after the death of his previous bonded rider.

HIII I KNOW U GUYS LIKE MY OPINIONS FOR SOME REASON.....SO I RAMBLED ON ABOUT SOME OF MY THOUGHTS ON ANEMONE. THIS IS JUST MY THOUGHTS SPILLED OUT INTO A POST WITHOUT LOOKING BACK, SO SOME THINGS MAY BE A BIT OFF AND NOT CORRECT. HOWEVER!!!! THIS IS MY BLOG AND I CAN BE INSANE ON IT IF I WANT. FEEL FREE TO ADD ANYTHING YOU WANT IN THE TAGS OR JUST TO READ THIS AND BE LIKE "HMMM OK"
ALSO IM DEFINITELY LEAVING STUFF OUT OF THIS POST BUT. ITS ALREADY LONG ENOUGH. IT DOESNT NEED MORE EVEN IF I HAVE SOOOO MUCH MORE TO SAY....
I WISH WE COULDVE SEEN ANEMONES REACTION TO FINDING OUT ORCA WAS 1. AN ANIMUS 2. KILLING OFF HER BABY SISTERS ALL THIS TIME
LIKE. SHE WAS TERRIFIED OF ALBATROSS, HER 2000 YEAR OLD RELATIVE WHO WAS A MURDEROUS ANIMUS. IMAGINE HOW SHE'D FEEL NOW KNOWING HER SISTER WHO WAS GLORIFIED TO HER ALL THESE YEARS BY CORAL WAS ONE TOO.
WOULD SHE FEEL RESENTMENT TOWARDS ORCA AS WELL, FOR THE FACT THAT HER LITERALLY BEING CHAINED TO CORAL SINCE HER HATCHING WAS HER ALL FAULT? WOULD IT ADD TO HER CORRUPTION THAT IT SEEMS HER FAMILY IS ALWAYS OUT TO GET HER IN SOME WAY? THAT HER FAMILY CAUSES HER NOTHING BUT SUFFERING?
THE SEAWING ROYAL LINEAGE IS ONE PAVED IN BLOOD FROM DRAGONS JUST LIKE HER, THATS WHAT SHE WAS ALWAYS TAUGHT. IS IT TRUE THAT SHES THE ONLY ONE WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO BE EVIL IN HER FAMILY? THEN HOW COME SHE FACES SO MUCH CRUELTY AT THE TALONS OF HER OWN MOTHER? A CRUELTY THAT IS IGNORED EVEN BY DRAGONS WITH THEIR OWN FREEDOM, LIKE TSUNAMI? ITS ONLY WHEN TSUNAMI SHOWS UP SHE BEGINS TO REALIZE THE FLAWS IN HER UPBRINGING. SURE, WHAT TSUNAMI WENT THROUGH WAS HORRIBLE, BUT SHE WAS FREE. FREE TO SAY AND THINK WHAT SHE WANTED. WHY WOULD SHE WANT TO MEET HER FAMILY? FAMILY IS NOTHING BUT EXPECTATIONS AND CONTROL TO ANEMONE. CONSIDERING SHE COULD NEVER VISIT HER BROTHERS, AND HER FATHER DIED SHORTLY BEFORE(?) HER HATCHING, ALL SHE HAS IS CORAL. AND CORAL IS CONTROLLING AND CRUEL.
IN ANEMONE'S EYES, BEING A DRAGONET OF DESTINY SOUNDS PERFECT. SHE'S FREE AND FULL OF DRAGONS WHO WILL DO ANYTHING FOR HER- AND SHE STILL RETAINS THE ATTENTION AND GLORY SHE DESERVES.
OH, ATTENTION. THE THING ANEMONE GREW UP WITH CONSTANTLY. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HER LIFE, WITH AUKLETS HATCHING, SHE HAS TO SHARE. SHES NOT USED TO THIS, BUT ANYTHING TO TAKE CORAL OFF OF HER BACK IS BLISS. JADE MOUNTAIN IS EVERYTHING SHE COULD HAVE EVER HOPED FOR. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF, ONCE AGAIN, HER UPBRINGING, SHE DOESNT REALIZE NOT EVERYTHING WILL BE HANDED TO HER. NOT ALL EYES WILL AUTOMATICALLY STAY FIXED ON HER. BUT THATS WHAT SHE GREW UP WITH. SHE IS NOT USED TO THE SUDDEN LACK OF SPOTLIGHT. HOW SHE CRAVES IT, BUT DESPISES IT. SHE DOESNT WANT CORALS ATTENTION, BUT SHE DOESNT WANT TO BE IGNORED. SHE DOESNT KNOW WHAT SHE WANTS.
DARKSTALKER. DARKSTALKER APPEARS AND CHANGES EVERYTHING. A DRAGON WHO FINALLY UNDERSTANDS HER. WHO UNDERSTANDS HER FEAR OF TURNING OUT LIKE DRAGONS OF THE PAST, THE FEAR OF HER OWN TALONS BETRAYING HER. AND FINALLY A DRAGON WHO SEES HER FOR HER POTENTIAL AT THIS SCHOOL. THE ATTENTION SHE WANTS, SHE FEELS SHE NEEDS, TO SURVIVE. DARKSTALKER IS LIKE A PARENT SHE ALWAYS WANTED.
BUT THEN THERES MOON. DARKSTALKERS FAVOURITE. IN ANEMONE'S EYES, DARKSTALKER SHOULDNT PAY ATTENTION TO MOON. SHES REGULAR, SHE HARDLY UNDERSTANDS AND RELATES TO ALL THE STRUGGLES THEY AS ANIMUS DRAGONS HAVE. SHE JUST GETS IN THE WAY. SHE REMINDS HER OF HER UNVOICED FRUSTRATIONS WITH TSUNAMI- STOP COMPLAINING, YOU SUFFERED, BUT YOU WERE FREE! YOU HAVE HARDLY ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT! OF COURSE THATS NOT TRUE, BUT AGAIN, ANEMONE DOESNT SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT. AT LEAST, SHES NOT USED TO HAVING TO. SHE CRAVES THE ATTENTION AND WARMTH SHE ONCE FELT, BUT WITHOUT THE CRUELTY OF CORAL. AND IN DARKSTALKER SHE SEES THIS. UNAWARE SHES BEING USED, OF COURSE.
AND THEN OF COURSE DARKSTALKER SEES AN ABUSED EMOTIONAL VULNERABLE CHILD WITH VERY LITTLE INSIGHT TO THE WORLD AND SEES A PERFECT DRAGON TO MANIPULATE.
AND FOR ONCE, ANEMONE THINKS SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE WANTS. THESE CONFLICTING FEELINGS, THE THRONE. THATS IT, ISNT IT? ITS WHAT DARKSTALKER WANTED, AND SHE WANTS TO BE LIKE HIM. FREE TO THINK AND DO WHAT HE WANTS, BELOVED BY ALL. THATLL MAKE IT ALL BE OK. AND FINALLY, SHELL BE FREE PERMANENTLY FROM CORAL. HER PERSPECTIVE IS TWISTED TO FIT THE VIOLENT BELIEFS DARKSTALKER HOLDS. BECAUSE SHES BEEN MANIPULATED SO HEAVILY, SHE THINKS LIKE HIM. SHE DOESNT CARE WHO GETS IN HER WAY TO THE THRONE, THEYLL REGRET IT. BECAUSE THATS WHAT SHE NEEDS, THE THRONE.
ITS ONLY WHEN TURTLE, A DRAGON SHE BELIEVED ENTIRELY OPPOSITE TO HER. A STRANGER IN HER LIFE, YET HER BROTHER, STEPS IN, SHE BEGINS TO SNAP OUT OF THE CONTROLLED HAZE.
THE PAINFUL WAKE UP CALL IS WHEN DARKSTALKER ENCHANTS HER. HE CONTROLS HER WITH EASE. TO DO WHATEVER HE WANTS. HER FREEDOM WASNT REAL THIS ENTIRE TIME, AND SHES MORE CONTROLLED THAN SHE HAS EVER BEEN. HOWEVER, DESPITE HER LASHING OUT AND DESPITE THE FIGHT THEY JUST HAD, TURTLE STEPS IN. SELFLESSLY. HE SAVES HER. WHEN SHE DIDNT DESERVE IT.
SHE DIDNT DESERVE IT. SHE TRIED TO KILL HIM. SHE BELIEVED HER FAMILY MEANT NOTHING TO HER. YET HERE TURTLE IS, SAVING HER LIFE AND SACRIFICING HIS OWN IN THE PROCESS. BECAUSE HE CARES. NOW SHES LEFT ALONE WITH HER THOUGHTS, AN INABILITY TO SPEAK, THINKING ABOUT WHAT JUST TOOK PLACE. THAT ALONE SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO SET HER ON A BETTER PATH. A PATH TOWARDS HER REDEMPTION, BEING SHOWN ULTIMATE KINDNESS WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED. THE ULTIMATE ACT OF FAMILIAL LOVE BY A BROTHER SHE HARDLY KNEW.
So tell me why Tui decided she needed an enchantment to magically fix her flaws to have her redeemed what the fuck

Hi dragon. How does your magic work?
-v
Well, before you read what I'm about to answer, I suggest you go to my pinned post so you know why it's probably not a magic you've heard of before.
I am part of a group of dragons another world calls animus dragons.
Animus dragons have the ability to enchant anything and control anyone. Hypothetically, they could beat any being if they wanted to.
But there is a price. In the world I am originally from, over 2000 years ago, a dragon named Albatros had animus magic. His sister, the queen, decided to use him and his magic.
One of the things she got him to do was build a palace for the sea dragons- seawings- to live in in the summer.
Back then, they didn't know about the price of animus magic, or that there was a way to stop it. Every time you use your magic, it takes a piece of your soul until you're nothing but a crazed husk of a being, death and pain your only options left.
Albatros was driven mad by his last enchantment, the price of building such a thing costly. He killed half of his family before his life was ended by his grandson.
Its why most animus dragons now are never discovered, or never do any big enchantments. But a dragon recently, Darkstalker found a way to avoid the price on his soul, and two other dragons have too.
You dont need to worry about me either. I already enchanted the braclet I wear to protect my soul.
So when I make threats, I'm not taking it lightly.

Modifications
(short story I made off of my potential 2000 yrs ago nightwing clan face alien contact AU. Characters are; Darkstalker who needs no introduction, Thomas who's a genetically-modified human, and Xernalia, Thomas's alien wife who did the modifications.)
Darkstalker: *looking over some photos*; what's up with those... limbs?
Xernalia: they're actually guns!- like what Thomas has, though his isn't part of his body.
Darkstalker: how... isn't he naturally equipped with weapons?
Xernalia: well he does-
Thomas: but nobody's going to tell you what weapon that is, since that's only a weapon through a technicality and it's a very private thing.
Xernalia: and he mostly uses tool-weapons, which are weapons that aren't part of his body, anyways.
Darkstalker: so, why don't you have these weapons as a part of your body? You seem to have similar structures to this one, *he taps the picture* so why don't you... ya'know?
Xernalia: well, the thing is, guns, or any kind of ranged projectile, is very complicated to do. You need to balance the metabolism, know what kind of ammo they're going to use... even then, I wouldn't be able to properly use them without some literal brain surgery, since I would need to actually fire the things.
Thomas: she's just saying a lot of technical terms to make it sound like more of a hassle than it actually is- she's perfectly capable of solving all those issues in a matter of minutes.
Darkstalker: so you haven't answered my question.
Thomas: yeah she didn't. So to answer; she doesn't have bio-guns because we agreed it would be best if I took ranged weapons and she took melee.
Xernalia: way to spoil the sport of it >:(
Thomas: you shouldn't be making a sport out of answering questions.
Darkstalker: yeah, not giving straight answers only makes people paranoid. You should just let me read your mind so that there's a complete transfer of knowledge.
Thomas: yeah kid, you're going to need to try harder than that to convince us to let you read our mind.
Darkstalker: damnit

Annon-Guy: Forgive if I already asked this before, but what was your first Guilty Gear game and what drew you into the series?
You weren't the first to ask me, but I suppose, since I have a ton of new followers lately that a refresher is in order…
It all started with a Magazine Article I read sometime back in 1999.
At the time, I was still playing games like Mortal Kombat 3 and X-Men versus Street Fighter, and Marvel Super Heroes, but most chances I had to play them was still strictly in the Arcade Scene (I wasn't a rich kid, by any means, so playing these games was few and far between). Even playing Darkstalkers was a rare occasion.
At the time, it wasn't easy to get Japanese games, let alone obscure "unpopular" fighting games that nobody heard of… Guilty Gear: The Missing Link was one of those games.
I was lucky enough to have my step-father buy me a PlayStation game console for my Birthday… but to be honest, even back then, getting decent games that ran on it wasn't easy either.
XMvSF was a disappointment on that console, so at the time I was playing stuff like Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Soul Blade (Soul Edge in Arcades, the precursor to Soul Calibur), and once in a blue moon I got my hands on demos of obscure things like Tekken 2 and the original Beastorizor (Bloody Roar), as well as demos of Battle Arena Toshinden.
Again, like I said, getting the full versions of these games wasn't easy… I was a poor kid in grade school and moving on to high school and my parents didn't like my gaming habits to begin with…
It wasn't until the summer of 2000 (roughly, my memory is a little hazy at this time), that I went with one of my old friends to visit our old local State Fair in the hot summer.
After having a little fun and eating some fair food… we left to head home, but on the way back, we came across a very rustic-looking used-record store.
The name of the place is Record Head… back in the day, they were more famous for selling old speakers, used drums, VCR parts, and guitars, but they also sold used records and… USED GAMES.
On that hot summer afternoon… Lady Luck gently put her "Golden" hand upon my shoulder.
For a measly $15 I bought not one but TWO FAMOUS FIGHTING GAMES.
Guilty Gear: The Missing Link
and
SAMURAI SHODOWN 3: BLADES OF BLOOD (better known in Japan as The Peerless Blade of Zankuro).
I was so excited… I couldn't wait to go home and play both these games… my friend at the time could probably tell how elated I was.
My early first impression of Samurai Shodown 3 was the infamous "Samurai Slowdown" moniker that the game was known for having ridiculous load times… but even back then, it was still pretty to play and fairly arcade accurate.
However… the first Guilty Gear was EVEN BETTER.
Faster combat, almost NO load times, ridiculous mechanics… not to mention being able to CHARGE UP YOUR ATTACKS AND DESTROY SOMEONE.
Outside of Alpha 3's World Tour Mode and dipswitches, I had never known such freedom in a fighting game before.
Freedom… to cancel your attacks in to anything…
Freedom… to airdash anywhere you want to go, jump where you want to go…
Freedom… to do over the top skills, and pull off ridiculous combos…
The original Guilty Gear for PlayStation (PSX as we called it back then) was also a glitchy mess… some hitboxes would shift from one end of the screen to the other… people could accidentally input instant kills just by button mashing…
I'm actually more surprised it didn't crash like later fighting games might be prone to doing!
But to me… all that chaos was just proof of the freedom I was getting, instead of the restrictive precise inputs that Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were known for.
I still very much enjoyed games like Samurai Showdown and Soul Calibur of course… among other fighting games I could get my hands on (I still regret not getting in to the Bloody Roar Series, and Toshinden… but I was too poor to afford those games…)
Perhaps one day I will revisit them on my YouTube Channel… but I digress!
Some time later… I met a man who would become a major rival to me for many years, who also introduced me to Guilty Gear X Plus… but that's a story for another day.
If I had to say the character that left the biggest impression on me… it was Justice. Not Sol Badguy, not Ky Kiske… not even Baiken or Testament.
Justice was the character who left that huge impression on me in the very first Guilty Gear that came out in the summer of 1998.
And I've been playing this series ever since.
Nowadays I play less Justice and more Ramlethal… but the excited and fierce feelings I had back then haven't changed very much.
I still face challengers with gusto… and I take my losses with honor…
I think I've also gotten a lot stronger than I was back then.
The "me" from back then was… very immature and impulsive… I got hot under the collar more times than I care to admit.
I'd say my "old self" would throw a tantrum and rage quit if he fought against "the current me" today.
But that's part of growing. And nowadays I play a lot more than just Guilty Gear.
Perhaps one day I'll forgive Capcom for their past betrayals and even play Street Fighter 6 one last time… we'll see…

What's the worst ANIMATED game adaption you've seen?
What's the worst ANIMATED game adaption you've seen? We've seen several topics about "the worst LIVE-ACTION game adaptions", often rightfully mocking Uwe Boll's movies while praising series like The Last of Us and recently Fallout. However, I personally haven't much about animated video game adaptions being talked about, and I know that there are stinkers out there :pWhile it's easy to point out The Super Mario Bros Super Show, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog (not SatAM), Mega Man, Street Fighter and Darkstalkers, I'm pretty sure that you guys can list post-2000 adaptations, often having more resources, more lore and more time to develop.I'll start with mine: BLAZBLUE ALTER MEMORYhttps://preview.redd.it/mn4sh1c28sxc1.png?width=256&format=png&auto=webp&s=3919f81e8e96420100822543b282bef4fa0e30262013 adaptation of BlazBlue, the 2nd fighting game series from Arc System Works, after Guilty GearMostly a retelling of the 2nd game, Continuum ShiftIt doesn't cover the entire story. Well, it does cover the begining and the end, but the middle is a mess.It has fillers... for a series with only 12 episodes. Please note that none of the joke endings were used. The fights are rather underwhelming. Some characters don't get their time to shine. In Continuum Shift EXTEND, a re-release, they added a new story mode chapter, recapping the events of Calamity Trigger from the perspectives of Ragna the Bloodedge, Jin Kisaragi and Noel Vermillion only. That alone would have worked as a 12 or 15-episode series with no filler, to bring everyone up to speed. The series should have been longer with 26 episodes, without filler (obviously), properly recapping Continuum Shift's story. The series should have focused on Ragna, Jin and Noel once again, but any "filler" episode should have been reserved for the other characters. Characters like Iron Tager, Hakumen, Taokaka and Tsubaki each have their own moments that don't involve the main 3 characters. So there you have it, my personal pick for "worst ANIMATED game adaption". What about yours :) ? Submitted May 01, 2024 at 03:25AM by PMC-I3181OS387l5 https://ift.tt/5xh70yL via /r/gaming

just thought of the most wild and possibly deranged zomb-clearsight au after watching a [1] skellies animation meme
before Darkstalker was banished to Literally gay baby jail, at some point after he tried the whole thing with making Fierceteeth into Clearsight bc hes his own species of Fucked up and Deranged™️, he realized “hey wait a minute even if i dont have them i could just summon her bones to me so i can revive her”
[cut to the entire continent of pantala screaming because the bones of their literal goddess has vanished with no knowledge of how] anyways this isn’t about them-
he did manage to somewhat revive her,, uh. depending on your definition of revive that is
basically animus magic boundaries n stuff like that he wasn’t able to bring her back fully and was only able to basically enchant her bones to be living. at this point he was kinda desperate [and maybe a little bit extremely dumb] so his enchantment went a little something like “enchant her to by loyal and to not question my actions” or something like that [see : own species of Fucked up and Deranged™️] and, because it was her bones and not actually her she ended up exactly like that. loyal and unquestioning. a bit like a dog lets say that. that analogy will be important later
and when i say “later” i mean literally right now Cut to Peacemaker approx. a few years later after he developed some cognitive state. just a little bit, he starts to learn a bit about his past self. not enough to realize who he once was, just a few tidbits either his mother or Moon might’ve let slip when they didn’t realize he was listening. He doesn’t act directly on this knowledge- doesn’t try hunting down where he might be hiding or trying to pry out more information- but one day when he goes to Jade Mountain Academy for his first day of school, he finds something waiting for him at the peak.
or at least, someone
thats right Clearsight’s skeleton caught wind of his aura like, well, a dog. All animuses have their own unique soul aura thats tied to the things they enchant. This lets other animuses figure out who enchanted what, and in some cases, can help lead living enchantments back to their creators.
which is exactly what Darkstalker did before he was turned into Peacemaker. And because despite how his physical and mental appearance changed- spiritually, he did not. even if it was weakened to a normal dragon soul so he’s no longer able to cast magic, it still has the same aura that he used to. And as soon as he arrived at Jade mountain Clearbones over here was able to track him down just by the ‘smell’ of his soul.
“ok but wtaf was she doing there and why did no one find her tho” Great question! im gonna halfass it and pretend i knew all the time
Clearbones [yes im calling her that im tired of calling her “Clearsight’s skeleton”] originally tracked down Darkstalkers soul to the peak of JMA when he didn’t come after a few days, But, after not finding anyone there, she kinda just... laid down and waited for someone to come by again. no one noticed her because everyone mistook her for either a weird rock formation, left over ice from the attack, or just a long-dead moss covered body no one wanted to disturb [i mean yeah]. kinda sad if you forget shes the result of a crazed maniac going more insane and reanimating his 2000 year old girlfriends skeleton in an act of selfishness but. yknow. ‘‘)
anyways back to Gay Baby the Jail. Peacemaker originally also thought she was just some old bones that been haven’t moved. until they started moving. Ofc he was scared at first, until he realized she wasn’t some old violent trap set by the malevolent Darkstalker to attack unsuspecting dragonets [again, hes heard of Darkstalker and what he did, but he doesnt know where he went.], but instead just a strange, weirdly clingy reanimated skeleton of a dragon long gone.
who just wont.
stop.
following him.
at first he was scared, a bit anxious that at some point the skeleton was gonna remember its supposed purpose and attack him when no one is watching [hes always been interested in animus magic, and has heard of the cursed Orca statue. this doesnt help at all]. but at some point it just kinda gets- annoying.
he tries to get rid of her every way he can think of. hiding her in a cave, locking her in a room, trying to abandon her whenever shes in whatever dormant state is a skeletons version of “sleeping”, but it never works, she always manages to find a way out and back to him. he knew he needed to hide her at first, of course, it would not be a good impression on the other students to have this old, mossy skeleton following you around the place. But he really didnt have a whole lot of choices now did he?
At some point it just became too much for him, and so being the little dragonet who didnt know what to do, he went to his mom for help.
who, understandably, was terrified to learn that the old reanimated girlfriend of her old-son-turned-new-baby was not back in the ground where everyone expected her to be and was, in-fact, following around her new son who shouldn’t have had any traces of her old son left in him
small problem but we’ll work on that.
and by work on that i mean he eventually learns to live with Clearbone’s perpetual state of Existing and does manage to get her to learn that he needs to be left alone when he goes to school, and leaves her in his moms care- and eventually Moon when she finds out after kinda just. walking in on them talking
of course, its not easy trying to hide the weirdly clingy reanimated bones of your past selfs girlfriend without anyone finding out, but then again,
its just Skeletons in the Closet.

you guys think a necklace (specifically clip-on, since he would be able to see it in front of him as it was slipped on) would work in place of the bracelet clearsight had when she is a wyvern? it would be harder to put on darkstalker but if its big enough then it would be less likely to break when darkstalker grows like 5x his original size
another alternative is something on the claw. maybe it's made of stretchy material that is hard to break but if it can stay on a dragons claw so well then clearsight would have difficulty getting it off. maybe she went to fetch superglue after she got it on him but im not sure how well thats going to last over the course of 2000 years (and darkstalker growing 5x his original size)(i also don't think dragons have glue)
maybe a tail band but darkstalker’s tail has no reason to be anywhere near clearsight’s so probably not

Friday Special #12
March 5, 2021
Hello friendos, and welcome back to another Friday Special!
For today’s article, we’ll be learning about Kinu Nishimura, arguably one of the most famous video game designers for Capcom as well as all time. You may not know her name but you will be familiar with her work.
Let’s get into it!
Tumblr media
So who is she?
Tumblr media
To start with, not much is known about her early life other than she was born in the Hyogo Prefecture sometime in 1969. She first became interested in art and design when working on and cleaning up designs for the mecha anime Combat Mecha Xabungle (which originally ran from 1982 to 1983 with 50 episodes) during her middle school years. She was then inspired to take art and design seriously as a career option and she was later admitted into Kyoto University of Art & Design the final years of the 1980s.
In 1991, she was officially recruited by Akiman, a prolific video game designer who Nishimura considered a great inspiration for her own art, into Capcom and was brought on as a video game art designer. This was after she touched up Akiman’s artwork on the games Final Fight and Magic Sword, where Akiman himself was impressed and so thus offered her the position at Capcom. Fun fact, she was also one of the very first artists there to utilize the power of Adobe Photoshop for her artwork, which had only been just released in 1990.
Her first known project at Capcom was to be the character and monster designer and promotional art designer for Capcom’s 1991 side-scrolling beat-em-up The King of Dragons. Although not listed in the original credits of the game, her artistic influence is still very recognizable in her character design. Her second project not long after that was for the fighting game Muscle Bomber: The Body Explosion as an illustrator responsible for the character portraits in-game.
(Off-topic, but regarding Muscle Bomber: The Body Explosion, Mike Haggar, one of the characters you get to play as, is the same Mike Haggar from Final Fight! It was said that before the events of Muscle Bomber, Haggar was elected to the role of Metro City, the fictional city in Final Fight, however, in the English version, he’s the former mayor of Metro City.)
Her big break was when she was assigned to be the main illustrator for Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting for arcade. From there, she was responsible for the famous character designs Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and others that players would come to know and love. Thanks to the massive success of the original Street Fighter II, Capcom would later re-release the same but with update content like extra characters and balanced gameplay. This enormous win for Capcom hurled Nishimura into the limelight as she became sought after for illustration and design work thanks to her appeal as a character designer and video game artist.
Tumblr media
Her next project would be the role of promotional illustrator for the 1992 title Varth: Operation Thunderstorm, a vertical-scrolling shooter along the same vein as Twinbee (1985) or Commando (1985). Not long after that in 1994 and 1995, she would be assigned to work on Armored Warriors and its more successful spin-off Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness (You can read the Throwback Tuesday article for Cyberbots here) as character design and promotional illustrator. Although the latter title is the more well-known on the list, her art style is very distinctive for both games.
Based loosely on the famous Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game, Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara was an arcade beat-em-up that Nishimura was, once again, the character designer as well as promotional designer. Critics particularly praised the game on multiple aspects, one of which being the graphics and the character designs. One year later, she was given smiliar designer duties for the 3D fighting game Rival Schools: United by Fate in 1997.
Speaking of fighting games, she would be back in the Street Fighter universe as character designer and illustrator for Street Fighter III: New Generation and . Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future. She also worked on the in-game artwork that can be seen all throughout the games.
Her next title is a bit of an obscure one by today’s standards, especially for those outside of Japan. As character designer and promotional illustrator as well as being responsible for the in-game artwork, Nishimura was on the staff for the game Gaia Master in 2000. The game in question was basically a fantasy-themed board game video game loosely based on the game Monopoly.
Tumblr media
(Gaia Master also has one of my favorite character designs ever in the form of Princess Tiara, a playable character in the game)
Tumblr media
Back on the fighting scene, her next two projects were the legendary fighting games Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 that she was the main illustrator for alongside Shinkiro, another prominent designer. These two fighting games are said to be some of the most iconic fighting games in the industry and they have been long-enjoyed by fans and players since their releases.
Between these two massive titles, she also worked on Cannon Spike doing her usual designer duties of character design and promotional artist.
The one time she worked in the Darkstalkers franchise was when she did the package art for Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower. Its visually stunning composition has helped sell the game upon release and its beautiful details hold up even today.
Tumblr media
One of her final projects, War of the Grail, was a 2006 unreleased Capcom title that was said to be based on the Dynasty Warriors series. She supposedly worked on the character designs and promotional material before its subsequent cancellation.
Her final official project before her departure from Capcom was Street Fighter IV in 2008, the same year she left. Just like in the previous entries, she provided her expertise in character design and promotional illustrations.
Although nowadays she works as a freelance artist, she would be a contributing artist for several other games, including Capcom titles like Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, on occasion.
For her excellent, prolific work in the industry, she has been recognized world-wide and is heavily respected as a major designer in the gaming world. She has been praised in a celebratory article by Kotaku and she has even inspired designers like Da-kuro of Gumi for video games like Phantom of the Kill. Her work has been featured in several Capcom art books, mostly devoted to Street Fighter as well as Darkstalkers: Resurrection and Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara.
Although not much is not known about her personally, her work and crucial contribution to some of the industries most notable franchises to one of the most prolific publishers period, we salute Kinu Nishimura, and thank you for creating our favorite characters.
Tumblr media
So do y’all think about all of this? Share your thoughts in the comments!
