it mattered because when my brother asked me what if this is the happiest you'll ever be? the best you'll ever get? the thing i felt was fear, not peace. everybody thought you were so perfect for me. even i thought you were "helping me grow". i had to challenge every internal clock. make myself more thoughtful, more kind, more beautiful.

i told my therapist it was good because i like the changes i made and there's something so strong about saying i did that. the problem is that i can like the difference all i want, but i changed for you. something akin to getting your name tattooed, all my progress is stamped with fuck you.

it was the happiest i'd ever been and also the best i'd ever gotten. i would still get in the car and think what the fuck just happened.

How to navigate researching things for your writing:

Research can be hard and you can often get swept away and forget what you were even looking for in the first place, in this post I'll share the process I like to use when I need to research something for my writing.

First off I'll start this post by saying that I am as unmotivated as someone can get when it comes to doing research for writing, and as a crime writer I need to research a lot of things.

1- A good start is always to narrow it down to exactly what you want to research, make your questions as specific as possible so you don't fall down a rabbit hole of looking at unnecessary information just to find what you want.

2- If you can't narrow it down or aren't sure specifically what you're looking for, do the opposite of what I stated above, make your question as short and general as possible, so you can get all the possible answers, and when you find the one that relates most closely to the topic you actually wanna research, use the information in it to create a very specific question.

3- Use the FUCK out of reddit, and quora too, although I find that as a crime writer, most of the sketchy information I actually want is on reddit and not anywhere else. Your answer probably isn't on google, especially not now that they're relying on AI, another good website for more history related stuff is ofc the infamous Wikipedia, but I personally haven't had to use it often. But seriously, Reddit, read all the relevant posts you can find because you will probably find the answer you want, and if you don't, asking the question yourself is always an option.

4- Interest and curiousity is good, but it won't help you if you're in the middle of a scene and get carried away. Ground yourself, find what you want and get out, if you read something and you're interested in knowing more, please just bookmark the tab and get back to your scene with your newfound answer.

5- Images are very very helpful in research, especially when describing weapons, just find yourself a labeled image on google and go crazy! Same thing applies to human anatomy, either images or visualizations work when you need them.

6- Sometimes, for more complex topics, you will not find one straight answer, not on reddit, quora, wikipedia, nowhere. You will need to put information together and fill in the gaps yourself, if you're in the middle of writing a scene when this happens do not stop to put the information together! Finish your scene with what information you have, correctness isn't important, set a time to do your research and put your answer together, and when you've finished that go back and edit the scene!

The final piece of advice I will leave you with is to just focus, as I just stated, correctness doesn't matter in the first draft of the scene, you can go back and fix it as many times as your little heart desires, but you absolutely cannot get back the flow you lost because you got distracted.

So focus, if you find what you need right away, great! If you don't, justs set time aside to do it later, what matters first and foremost is to get the information on the page and fix it later.

Maybe some of this advice will help, maybe it won't, either way, I hope this feline has enlightened you!

Hello! My name is Erin Lukas (he/they), and I'm a queer (nonbinary, ace, pan) + neurodivergent writer.

Due to burnout, I spend much of my time thinking about writing than actually committing to it, so snippets from me are shared quite sporadically. However, I'm always down to ramble about my projects when given the opportunity.

Also, I'm a turtle who tends to disappear into my shell and reemerge at random, that's normal. 🐢

I'm both ask and tag game friendly! Just be aware that I can be slow to respond; my social battery is consistently on "low power mode", so please be patient with me.

My favorite genres to read and write are Fantasy and Sci-Fi.

All my projects involve a mostly queer and/or neurodivergent cast of characters, and the plots tend to include a lot of angst, whump, and tragedy (sorry not sorry).

Since most of my projects deal with dark themes at times, I will do my best to give proper warnings when necessary, but please let me know if there's anything you need tagged.

summary: talking to spencer about wanting a second baby.

a/n: just a fluff stuff. i know this is a mess but i don't remember the last time i wrote something. also english is not my native language <3

you were sitting on the couch. your husband spencer hadn't come home from work yet. your son luke was on your lap, decided to sleep early tonight. he looked just like his father with his curly brown hair.  sleeping, he curled up on your chest. just like his father of course.

while luke was sleeping on the couch, the door of the apartment was opened with a key. you could tell from the familiar sounds that spencer had arrived. he hung up his keys and took off his shoes. you gently laid luke down on the couch. stood up as he entered the living room. reached out and wrapped your arms around spencer's neck. "welcome, angel boy."

spencer felt the weight and worries of the past few days slowly melt away as you wrapped your arms around his neck. that was all he needed after spending two days away from home. his muscles relaxed, and he melted into your embrace like a tired, weary man. he buried his face against your shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of your hair and skin. it felt like coming home...

he mumbled against your neck, his voice laced with exhaustion and relief. "i missed you, sweetheart."

"i missed you too." even after fifteen years, that was something that hadn't changed. you pulled back slightly. you took his hand and pulled him to the couch. luke was still sleeping, curled up in a small corner of the couch.

spencer silently followed you to the couch, letting you lead him like a weary traveler. he settled on the couch beside you, his long limbs sprawling across the cushions as he leaned back against the couch. his body was weary, but the sight of luke sleeping peacefully in the corner brought a soft smile to his face. he draped an arm over your shoulder, pulling you closer to his side. with a tired sigh, he placed a soft kiss on the top of your head and whispered, "how was your day?"

you wrapped your arms around him as he pulled you towards him. leaned you head on his shoulder. pulled your knees up towars the couch. your knees in his lap. “he cried once because he missed you but he didn’t cause any trouble.”

spencer felt the familiar comforting feeling settled over him like a warm, protective security blanket. chuckled softly at your words, a mixture of amusement and guilt swirling in his weary expression. he moved his arm from your shoulder to your waist and pulled you closer to him. “i’m sorry. i hate it when he cries because of me.”

“it’s okay. he misses you but feels safe because of you. he thinks you caught the jokers like batman.” you mumbled with a light laugh. spencer chuckled too. his chest rumbling under your head as your words brought a tired smile to his face. luke’s perception of him as a crime-fighting superhero filled him with a mixture of amusement and pride.

he ran a lazy hand through his hair, ruffling it even further in his exhaustion and let out a weary sigh. the case had been particulary challenging and the stress and worry were plain on his face. you knew he was tired, but you had something unfinished to talk about before he went to that case. “we were going to talk, but we can talk tomorrow if you’re tired.”

spencer looked down at you, his eyes weary but filled with curiosity. he knew you had something important to talk about and his tired brain tried to muster up the energy to focus on whatevet it was.

he lifted his free hand and gently caressed your cheek, his touch soft and tender as he spoke quietly. “no, no. i’m tired, but... tell me. you can talk to me now.”

you pressed your lips together. you moved in his arms. leaned your elbow on the edge of the chair. your knees were now pressed against his thighs. “so, i’m thinking for a while and i think it might be a good idea.”

spencer shifted his body slightly to accommodate your new position in his arms. he watched you intently his eyes focused and curious even in his weary state. he could sense the seriousness in your tone, and his heart rate picked up a little in anticipation of what you were about to say.

he nodded, encouraging you to go on. a gentle, reassuring smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “okay, i’m listening, sweetheart.”

you turned your head and looked over your shoulder at luke sleeping behind you. then you smiled and turned back to spencer. rested your free hand on his chest. you slowly drew small circles with your finger. “would you like to have another baby?”

a mixture of surprise and joy flickered across spencer’s face at your question. it was not something he had been expecting, especially in his tired state but the idea suddenly filled his heart with a warm, tender feeling.

he looked down at your hand on his chest, feeling the gentle, repetitive touches as you traced circles with your finger. his eyes then met yours, and the weariness in them was replaced by a soft, tender look.

he placed his hand on top of yours, holding you against his chest. “you... you want another one?”

“yeah,” you looked into his eyes, which were bright despite his tired appearance, as you tilted your head slightly to the side. you smiled as rested your palm on his chest. “have you never thought about this.”    

spencer’s eyes flicked back and forth between yours, his gaze filled with a mixture of love and affection. the mention of having another baby was something that had indeed crossed his mind, especially in recent years. but he hadn’t expected you to bring it up so suddenly and straight-on like this.

he shook his head gently, a soft smile playing on his lips. “i... i have thought about it. bu i didn’t know how you felt about it.”

you tilted your head slightly to the side as you pressed your lips together. “pregnancy and after a few weeks luke was born were not the best, i’ll admit it, but now look at us.”

you smiled as you rubbed your thumb over his shirt. “and maybe it will be a girl?”

spencer’s gaze softened even more as you spoke. he knew the early days of your pregnancy and luke’s birth had been hard on you, both physivally and emotionally. but looking at you now, he could see how far both of you had come since then.

as you mentioned the possibility of having a girl, his heart skipped a beat. “a little girl…” he repeated, voicing the words with a mix of wonder and tenderness.

“yes.” you nodded smiling.

spencer’s smiled broadened as you nodded in agreement. the thought of having a daughter filled his heart with a flood of emotions: fear, love, protectiveness, joy and a hint of terror at the idea of having to deal with the future boyfriends your little girl would bring home.

he ran his hand slowly over his face, his thoughts obviously swirling in his tired mind. “we’d have to start thinkin about names, nursery decor, baby stuff.”

you chuckled and smiled. pressing your lips to his for a short kiss. “i love you.”

spencer’s weariness faded a bit more as your lips met his. the gentlei reassuring weight of your kiss was like a soothing balm to his tired soul. he savored the feeling for a moment before you pulled back.

he let out a soft sigh, his heart filled with a warm, tender feeling as he looked into your eyes. his hand came up to cup your face gently, his thumb brushing across your cheek.

his voice was soft and affectionate as he spoke three words that never failed to express the depth of his love. there was nothing in the world that could make him happier. “i love you, too. god, i love you so much.”

he started caressing your cheek and leaving kisses on your face. he whispered beautiful words into your ear many times.

"you are my everything."

"i love you more than you know."

"my beautiful wife."

"my sunshine."

"you know, we should spend some quality time while luke sleeps and we can continue talking about the baby." spencer grinned. he left a small peck on your lips.

"go to bedroom. i'm putting luke to bed and coming.”

INTRODUCTION

hello! my name is erin (he/they) and i'm a 23 year old neurodivergent and queer writer. i've been floating around tumblr for years now, but after a lengthy hiatus, i felt the urge to return once more. ever the occasional writer, snippets of my writing will remain elusive for now, though i'm not one to turn down an opportunity to ramble about my worlds and ocs.

this writeblr is both ask and tag game friendly. just know that i can be slow to respond most days (i'm working with a low social battery and a general lack of spoons), so please be patient with me.
