Tumblr media
It was a comfy day in the neighborhood, the sun was shinning, a few clouds could be saw in the sky, it was a little windy but not enough to be annoying, just a perfect day of spring, a perfect day for the season who is considered the season of love, a perfect day in the month of love to confess to his dear crush, that's what Wally thinked the first moment he wake up, having the sensation than this was gonna be his day, ready to confess his love to you. He walked in the neighborhood, greeting his friends, knowing he already had a lovely bouquet of flowers in home, ready to be given to you, all was perfect... Until something happened, he saw you talking with Howdy, He knew you were great friends with him but, why it felt different this time? Why his heart feel trapped? He choosed to ignore this, you two were just friends, he already has planned to confess today, why to change now for such an innocent thing?
The day passed by fastly and he was feeling worse every second, he is the most, even you said that to him, but why he was so insecure now? Why he was feeling like that? That perfect day became cloudy, no sign of the shiny sun that was in the morning, he feeled a drop of rain fall while waiting for who knows what outside of your door, or it was a tear? He finally knocked your door, the door of his beloved "Oh! Wally, is you, is going to rain, come, enter" You said kindly and he did what you tell "Something happened?" you asked, ignoring the bouquet of flowers in his hands and with that single question he broked, crying like a waterfall, tears of sadness falling in the petals of the red and white flowers he bought for you, you fastly came to comfort him, hugging him and patting his back while he hugged the bouquet and cried in your shoulder "Shhh, it's ok, let the sadness get out" the most soft tone of your voice you could do was in your words in a try to calm him even a little, he pushed you a little and gaved you the bouquet "t-they are for y-ou" he said, struggling with his words thanks to the sobbing, you received the bouquet surprised, choosing to put it in the most nearest table for a while "Thank you, Wally, but what happened?" "I just love you so much and this bouquet was for you but I saw you so happy with other person and I... I don't know" he said fastly, don't realizing he just basically confessed to you, for first time you saw him so vulnerable, with tears in his eyes and messy looking, people say actions expresses more than 1000 words so when you kissed him and rubbed his hands with your thumbs his eyes started to glow, no more because of the tears but now because of love, maybe it wasn't a perfect day, it was a cloudy and rainy one but being in a day like this with the one you loved was really a dream come true, Wally thinked while happy tears came from his eyes "Dear, are you purring?" you asked while you heared a soft pitched purr came from your now boyfriend.
So... Now a few hcs of Wally cuddling with you and purring
- He loves to cuddle so much
- It feels like a dream to him being cuddled with you in your warm body
- I feel that if he's capable of purring he would do it everytime he's happy
- that means he purrs A LOT when cuddling with you
- is kinda like a cat but in Wally form
-he leans and hugs you while purring (like a cat)
- if you are AFAB and are in your period is like a free cramps reliever
- He uses all the space in the sofa or bed (like a cat) and waits for you to just lean with him and cuddle

Ship Analysis pt.8:
I think this image summarizes my thoughts to why Red Crackle and Carmivy are better than Carulia(for me):
Tumblr media
Gray and Carmen are light and darkness, yin and yang, perfect balance, soulmates, opposites attract, different but same and I just have it in me as a headcanon the impression that Chief is a Red Crackle shipper. For me, she's the president of the Red Crackle fan club. She says Gray is a smitten sap for Carmen(In the Portuguese and Spanish dub she legit says he's a fool/idiot in love) and when talking about Carmen and Gray having coffee together she says Carmen and Calloway are, makes a pause, like she's thinking on what to say next, and says "friendly", in a different voice tone than before. I think she knows.
Carmivy while is not my favorite ship, it's almost as great as Red Crackle for me. They are just so good! Ivy is such a simp going "I will beat you up if you say anything to upset Carmen" to Zack or "We're here for Carmen" to Shadowsan. Or asking herself multiple times what would Carmen do. She's Carmen's biggest fan. In some things, Carmivy was even superior to Red Crackle. But doing the overall average, for me, Red Crackle just end up winning, but Carmivy got close. I think this shows what I'm talking about:
Tumblr media
They are such simps for her. They both knew her so well. Ivy always knew what Carmen would do and tried to do it and Gray in the train scene he says:"You've proven yourself, that's all you ever wanted, wasn't it?" it shows how well he understands her. While it wasn't ALL she ever wanted, it was definitely something she wanted a lot and Gray realized even before Carmen herself did. At the Lucky Cat Caper(I don't remember if that's really the name but okay) when Carmen has a nightmare about the coat exam she says to Player:"I guess I still feel like I have something to prove." Another thing it gets me is how Carmen and Gray prioritizes each other's safety and well being. Like, sure, Carmen prioritizes these two things of a lot of people, but the way it's with Gray, they prioritize those things from each other on top of pretty much almost EVERYTHING. In the episode Carmen goes to rescue Gray from the jail in Reykjavik, she had a choice:Go get the stolen crown or get to Gray. She chooses Gray first. Of course she also gets the crown but she still chose Gray first. She set an alarm for him if he ever got in trouble because she wants to get him out of trouble and have a good fresh start. Also, we know Maelstrom likes to melt gold. I just can picture perfectly Maelstrom convincing Countess Cleo to have only the crown's precious gemstones to do other jewelry and then Maelstrom would get the crown gold to melt and do whatever he wants with it. And then Carmen would have lost the crown forever and would have totally failed for the first time. Carmen isn't dumb. She knew the faculty members, she lived with them almost her whole entire life. Even with that risk, she STILL chose Gray without even hesitating or thinking more carefully about it. That's how much Gray matters to her. She stole for V.I.L.E. to save Zack and Ivy and she never did something like that, against her morals, for Julia. She threatened to throw that V.I.L.E. artifact in that hole but the artifact was something that would help V.I.L.E. to find more things and steal them and she knew if she threw it, one day someone would find it or it would be hidden forever. So she had absolutely nothing to lose throwing it. She actually had something to win. It wasn't a sacrifice she was willing to do for Julia, like it was the case for Gray, Zack and Ivy.
And this was the final part of my ship analysis. The next thing related to ship will be a ship ranking, where I get all the Carmen Sandiego romantic ships and judge them from first to last place. Bye and see you soon!

What's kind of phone I think each Carmen Sandiego character has:
Carmen: That limited edition red iPhone that came out a few years ago. Because it is red, along with a red case with a red pop socket on the back that keeps.falling.off. It's also mysteriously in perfect condition?
Player: A Google Pixel because he doesn't want to conform to the status quo of phone brands and claims he made it 'hack proof'. He sticks by it and claims it's better than any iPhone or Samsung on the market, but it's really not. And he knows that, we all know that. And no phone case because he literally can't find one for it because no one has a Google Pixel. So why make phone cases for a phone no one has?
Shadowsan: They got him an iPhone 12 Pro, big enough for him to use and see the screen because he has to view it from a distance as, and I quote 'The phone lights make his eyes blurry.' It also had one of those wallet cases mums have on their phones. He left it behind when he went on his sabbatical and got a Nokia brick and an international sim plan just for calls.
Zack: The most disgusting, feral, warped, sticky, crusty and shattered iPhone 6 in white you have ever witnessed in history yet it works completely fine despite the glass you find lodged in your finger when you use it and the centre button that is just an empty hole to the motherboard. REFUSES to get a new one because he doesn't want to lose the headphone jack and claims that apple removing it in the first place was cash grab and he will have no part in it. And honestly dam right zack I am with you there my man stay strong King xx
Ivy: She has a custom made franken-phone that is made up of various parts from all brands across the board. Alot of the parts donated from Devineaux's pile of fallen soldiers that met their doom between the 18-24 months he was actively chasing Carmen/VILE before VILE fell. Literally a beast and has a military grade case that she also crafted which she had tested. It is literally military grade, she has a certificate and everything.
Julia: Currently, a Lavender Samsung Ultra 23 256gb storage. She got it mostly for the cool pen it comes with, and because it's lavender. She updates her phone model every 2 years and sells the latter for almost the same price she bought it for because she keeps it in pristine condition. She's only ever cracked a phone once and it shook Julia to her core. It looked horrific in her opinion, the hair line crack so bad it made her gag when she brushed her finger over it. So now she always has a nice, strong silicone pastel purple case and screen protector over her phone which she cleans regularly.
Chase: He went through 6-7 phones during the 18-24 months while chasing Carmen/VILE before VILE fell. Before then and now after, he had whatever the latest phone was the year he got it regardless of the brand, about every 2-4 years or until it kicked the bucket. During that 18-24 months, he'd walk into a phone store, ask for the latest thing, and be on his way. Most of them died in his care before he even had the chance to take the back plastic off. Now, he's in far fewer situations that indanger his life or phone. Or if he is, takes the moment to hand his phone and wallet to whoever is nearby for safe keeping because he really likes the new one Julia picked out for him (which is just the same model as hers but black). Julia also being the one who made him get a case. He had no idea that phones came with their own clothing options.
Chief: Only uses holograms. But has a landline??????????????
Zari: She once owned a black Samsung A20 with a yellowing clear case back in 2015 before she was declared missing at sea? That's all the information I can get on it my sources tried their best sorry.
Brunt: Doesn't need it because she can project her voice across vast distances. Get her a rolled TV guide and she can blast your message from one side of America to the other 🇺🇸 yeehaw and also because she's scared those 5g mega hd3g Max phone microwave rays will melt her brain if she gets one of those flat things and slaps it to her face like an genz zombie.
Bellum: Has 17 Ipads all with different cases on them.
Cleo: She has other people do that phone thing for her so she isn't sure what kind of phone she has and I don't know either.
Maelstrom: A telepathic link chip he had installed into his brain to connect to cell towers. It doesn't really work... Or do anything... But it's in there so.... Yeah?
Dash: A Samsung flip BECAUSE ITS JUST AS PRETENTIOUS AS HE IS and so he can snap it shut to prove a point. He's been through like 10 of them because he snaps them closed too slay-ily damaging it. No case because I have no idea how you'd even get a case for it?? Like it folds? I don't know.
Paper Star: Lives off grid.
Sheena: A white iPhone 11 with a gold trim case that has a huge crack down the front. The back glass is completely shattered, but it doesn't stop her from endlessly scrolling through those insta reels about reviewing different tanning lotion brands.
Crackle: An oily iPhone with the most humongous case you've ever seen. You could drop it and it would bounce around like a ping pong ball. The grease that covers the lens gives his selfies an air brushed vibe to them that he just loves.
Mimebomb: An invisible 1970s orange rotary phone.
Neal: That mystic purple conch shell with the pull string from that one spongebob episode that answered questions or something. You know what I'm talking about don't make me pull up a picture.
Topo and Chev: They share one phone so covered in stickers you can't even tell what kind it is but its probably an iPhone. It's filled with couples selfies and can only work when permanently charging so it's always connected to a power bank that is also covered in stickers. Ugh.

Here by my continuation of live reaction to fic Random Tales of Drakgo by @gothicthundra from chapter Pride and Falls to chapter Locked In.
I'll admit that I'm already at Ungrateful Ark. I kinda gulped the Villains resort in one go, I was so immersed into it ^^' so I'd need more time to well... To structure overall thoughts
Fails and Pride
This awkwardness… guys, please just *talk*. Nature gave you mouths and brains. At least some shared braincells.
I love how slowly those two moved closer to one another during Worst Villain Fails. Mortification over their own mishaps, marvelous and the best way to bond once again Xd
OMG DRAKKEN THAT NO NO 🤣🤣🤣 DREW, YOU'RE AWFUL OTL OH this frazzled my game. Oh god. I HATE THAT JOKE 🤣🤣🤣
*several minutes later*
OK, I think I'm alive.

Ok moving on.
Nah, Dr D its a cool song!
Picture....
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure those were from the gauntlets alone, my guy.
........ I've seen the illustration of this moment and I still think that either Carmen Sandiego needs to wear that coat more often or Drakken needs to take of his top part more... *sips tea*
This... Idk why but Drakken interacting with Wegos and Mego is giving me such a dose of serotonin. Especially them getting along. And yes, that slang is awful. Teach them, D!
Poor Shego. All nerves, awkwardness and overthinking. But he was just talking about Wegos.
YAAAY they are back!
Seriously (>:( Eddie, curse you ), I wish that we got an actual episode of how those two solved their issues during after whole Mad dogs and Aliens
BED TIME STORIES
.... And there was only one bed 🤣
“What if I wake up spooning her...” daaaw
I am laughing so hard at Shego's turmoil
Ok I'm laughing more at how she feels offended over pillow wall.
Yes, he was concerned over spooning, Shego.
Why is this Spongebob and Squidward moment with that wall?
He admitted it! Hallelujah!
Hehe time to share stories
.... You know with this sleepover and them being like little girls and how previously Shego helped him with make up....... I think I know what a perfect meme to use in my next drawing
;-; babies, I knew I just *knew* I'll get all soft on the babies in the baby era. THANK YOU JASPER YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE ;-;
OTL yeah...... That was not casual at allll OTL
She called him Drew ;-;

Yes dr d you are her best hus... Friends and much closer than Junior
Daaw
Locked in
One of the chilliest chapters and it is nice to get one after all that happened even if I know that retreat arch has its own thing going.

GONE WRONG
(DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANNA BE TOO SPOILED FOR THE FANFIC OF CARMEN SANDIEGO SEASON 5)
The drive back home to the headquarters was silent. Spinkick and Flytrap looked at eachother, noticing how quiet Amaryllis has been with disappointment probably stirring up inside of him.
The trio got out of the car. Amaryllis slams the car door shut, making the other two flinch slightly. They walk back into the headquarters, Amaryllis sat at his designated desk.
Tumblr media
“What…The Heck.”
The two looked at him,
“What the heck…was that?!” He scolds them. “It was the perfect time to screw her up! To finally destroy her, and yet you two idiots decided to let her go?!” He slams his fists down the table, startling the two again!
Even so, Spinkick decided to speak. “Amaryllis…We’re—“
“Not sorry.” Spinkick’s eyes widened as Flytrap interrupts him, glaring at Amaryllis. Amaryllis squints his eyes, “What? Not sorry that you ruined the thing we worked the hardest for?! You two could have gotten yourself harmed and back to prison!”
Spinkick hugged himself tightly, but nevertheless, he took a deep breath in. “Litz, you know what..?” He took a step closer, towering over his teammate. “Yeah. To be honest, we’re not sorry.”
Amaryllis frowned and furrowed his brows, he looked down at the floor, and then back at Spinkick. “I thought you guys would help me! You are my family! I—“
“Yes, we wanted to destroy Carmen as well, but deep down, all we ever wanted was to be a family! With you, Amaryllis!” Spinkick yelled with deep, sorrowful passion in his voice.
“W—We wanted…to be a part of a family. Not to destroy someone else’s. And it’s…clearly hurting the both of us.” Flytrap looked at him, clearly concerned and stressed.
Amaryllis, who ran out of words to say, looked at the both of them. Sadness fueled him, but not as fast as anger did. Not as fast as the rage that reached his throat.
“THEN LEAVE! If I’m really hurting you this much, why don’t you just go?!”
“Amaryllis!—“
“GO AWAY!” He turned away, a lump forming in his throat. “I can’t let you guys stay with me if all you’ll do is put yourself in danger.. I honestly can’t focus with you two acting like total idiots.” He murmured, walking silently to his room.
Spinkick and Flytrap looked at eachother. Flytrap cupped Spinkick’s teary eyed, red face…She wipes a tear away with her thumb. “Let’s go somewhere, okay…?” She whispers.
“I wanna tell her…”
“Okay.” Flytrap answered.
On the other hand, Amaryllis was enraged…He hinted a clue to where the next heist would be.
The next heist, Carmen appeared to the meeting place...It was a dark, and lightless place…that was until a green electric spark lit the darkness…a crackle rod.
“You…” Amaryllis growled lowly, looking at Carmen with his angriest eyes. “You took them away from me…”
“Let me guess. You’re not here to steal? You’re getting real predictable nowadays…” Carmen smirked.
“Oh? Then if I’m so predictable you should already be prepared…BECAUSE IM GONNA KILL YOU!”
Amaryllis charged towards Carmen, but Carmen stood still.
“I AM prepared.”
Suddenly, Spinkick and Flytrap jumped right in front of Carmen, stopping Amaryllis in his tracks.
“You…You two…betrayed me…” Amaryllis whimpered, his hands shaking a little. He felt his heart sink, and the lump in his throat reform.
“W—Well then…that just means I have nothing left to lose..”
He stammered, powering up the crackle rod to it’s highest, directing it right in front of them..all he had to do was shoot…
The two were scared, Amaryllis could strike any moment now, and they wouldn’t know how to dodge.
..
….
No strike yet?…
Tears formed in Amaryllis’s eyes…his hands kept shaking, he couldn’t, he just couldn’t do it…Not to them. Why couldn’t he do it?…
The crackle rod slips out of his hands, as tears streamed down his face..
What should he do now?…he felt so much. Embarrassed, betrayed, afraid, sad, angry…he just feels…
frozen.

What’s the best and worst thing about your favorite Carmen Sandiego character?
OH that's a great question!! i needed time to think about it thoroughly, first because i wondered who my favorite character was (Carmen or Julia? in the end i went with carmen because i rotate her in my mind and think about her psyche sooo much), and then of course i couldn't just answer, i had to think about it for hours.
i think one of the best things about her, as in one of the things i love more about carmen's character, is her passion. her determination, her intensity. the way she is so dedicated to stopping vile she'd do anything. when she starts taking massive risks, even to her own detriment (once again i'm thinking about neal the eel's "you'll fry us both" in New Zealand in s2 - that was incredibly reckless on her part!). part incredible self-confidence in her own skills, part complete disregard for her own safety, part desperation because she sees no other way. when she becomes dead serious, like in Egypt when she was 100% ready to drop that artefact in the abyss in order to get julia back, and she drops the smile and the lightheartedness fully. those moments when you see how much her whole mission and her friends mean to her. her refusal to call chief in stockholm because no way she's risking her freedom. her face when she tases coach brunt in the s1 finale, all scowl and gritted teeth. that's why i'm talking about intensity. the way it almost borders on rage. i find it very relatable, when love for something means you grow teeth to protect it.
the worst thing, in the sense of 'thing i am most frustated with'... i'd have to go with. the way she's always in control and with a funny quip. like she's rarely vulnerable, be it physically or mentally speaking. you rarely see carmen being shaken, stumbling, having nothing to retort, or just being plain wrong and making mistakes. or even just acting goofy, you know? now, of course, i'd like to think it's because of her trauma, because she feels like she has to - she's got this heavy responsibility she feels she can't share with anyone, she can't slip up or vile will triumph. she wears this mask to make her seem cool, confident and controlled, like she's untouchable, but sometimes it's nothing more than a lie.
(as an aside, i want to say carmen absolutely needs to have this confidence and this charisma. it's part of her charm and it's so very carmen sandiego. to me that's an essential feature of the character. but, since she is the protagonist, the character we're always following, it would make sense to see her other facets too, you see what i mean?)
buuut... if it were that, i would want an arc of her learning it's okay to make mistakes, it's okay to take time for herself, it's okay to let herself be young and be herself, it's okay to be vulnerable. especially with her close friends. and for that ivy and zack would be ESSENTIAL. carmen needs people who are not from vile and who know how to be more relaxed (i love player but i don't think he'd be able to help carmen much with that, he seems to be having the same problem sjkdbgjdkg).
but that's not what we got from the show, so what, are we supposed to think carmen's perfect all the time? let her show some personality, dammit

Seeing Red
Prologue
Classic Carmen Sandiego x Fem Reader
[Content warning: implications of child abuse, a forced/arranged wedding, toxic traditional mindsets. Keep yourselves mentally healthy 💗
Author’s Note: God works hard but my homosexuality works harder. Enjoy!]
     Y/n and Nathan together forever. What a sweet love story, when a rich family took in an orphan girl from the kindness of their hearts. The orphan girl went to high school along with the son and they became close, then wed. They were the perfect couple albeit traditional. Nathan went to work expecting a clean house, dinner, and a doting wife.
What did Y/n get?
Why did it matter? Y/n got to be with a rich, handsome, charming husband! It didn’t matter if she wanted to see the world, if she wanted wear something other than the collared dresses that had to go past her knees, or if she didn’t want to clean and cook.
She was indebted to the Johnson family, they picked her up off the streets and gave her a life that others dreamt of.
The might as well own her.
———————————
Little Carmen Sandiego, found alone with a locket as her only possession. Taken in by a girl’s housing unit.
Some of the girls she met were shy, covered in scars and burns as they squeaked at the quietest of sounds. The others were adorned with the same scars yet a different attitude: they created their own weapons and raised their voice as a warning sign.
Then there was Y/n, a sweet girl who sat underneath the old oak tree with a crowd surrounding her as she read out loud from the book placed in her soft hands. Y/n’s stories were a union, enemies would sit next to each other, the shy and the rougher kids would share blankets, from young to old everyone tuned in.
Including a younger Carmen.
She didn’t know it then but she loved you. Your soft giggles, the exaggerated voices when you told stories, your kindness, you took care of everyone without expecting anything in return.
After you were going to be adopted by some rather suspicious people you fled, leaving everyone with the memory of a girl with tear stained cheeks and fresh bruises.
There is only one question on the super thief’s mind: Where on earth is Y/n?

Is the power of Mary-Sue an inherently bad guy power?
Okay, let me explain. I know that the Mary-Sue is usually on the side of good, but I got to thinking about something; if a Mary-Sue was the villain, would care quite so much that they seem to have these near reality bending powers?
How often have you seen the big-bad evil guy seemingly pull a fast one at the last minute in order to one-up the good guys? Just a complete, out of nowhere act that justs forces a story into overtime? Have some secret, unknown ability, artifact or trinket that seems to the point of breaking immersion?
Ongoing villains are notorious for this. Carmen Sandiego did more unbelievable things and escaped in more unfathomable ways. Have a mini helicopter that can turn into a rocket to escape the aircraft of the law? We would slam a Mary-Sue for having such a hairbrained device, but Carmen Sandiego? Oh yeah, perfect sense.
Dr Claw from Inspector Gadget? You'd expect someone of that level of wanted would so easily get detained. (Inspector Gadget isn't a Mary-Sue, just a cyborg Maxwell Smart (yes, that's the reference), the bumbling fool with near Mary-Sue powers, but their wacky hijinks makes up for it.)
How many times has a bad guy pulled a fast one to escape capture, death or worse, through seemingly near impossible means, but we don't care they're doing it, just so long as they get defeated in the end.
And I think that's it. As writers, we want our heros to overcome obstacles and it can't be overcome too easily or quickly, as that spoils the fun. (First act defeats are rarely permanent and are often either deliberate acts by the bad guy for some larger plan, or just a plot set-up for someone else to break them out.) The heros need their big bad evil to fight against, or else we're just watching them take down some ne'er-do-well and then get back to their boring life between these sporatic bursts of activity. Do you want to know how the main character folds their laundry? Not after the epic robot fight.
The size and scale of a hero is directly proportional to the obstacles they have to overcome. If the villian isn't gifted the powers of the Mary-Sue, then they may be overcome too quickly and the heros won't be as legendary as we want them to be. This is, seemingly ironically, why Mary-Sue heros suck so much. If the villian has no real threat, then the hero doesnt seem that amazing; the Mary-Sue problem in a nutshell.
So don't throw out your Mary-Sue characters; cast them as the villians and see what your non-Mary-Sue heros need to do to defeat them.

Summer Rewatch
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have shows I just rewatch every summer for like the past almost ten years I think. Idky, but they just make me happy and represent some really good television.
Young Justice
Tumblr media
The show managed to un cancel itself after 6 years because we fans wanted it back so bad. Why? Because it’s so good! Great twists, best OG team, snark, epic fights, moles and more. I love it, I always will.
Justice League
Tumblr media
Another show that managed to get its own semi spinoff with Unlimited though I just consider it a season 3/4. Anyway, like above, it really cements what the Justice League is about with its epic fights, other worlds and unique roster of heroes. Plus such good epsidoes from This Little Piggy to Starcrossed in a lot of different genres.
Avatar the Last Airbender
Tumblr media
As I’m sure everyone has realized after the Netflix resurgence, Atla sets quite a bar as it delves into tough topics like genocide, and familial trauma, utilizes Asian influences respectful, amazing bending battles, beautiful animation and all with a lot of heart.
Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?
Tumblr media
The theme song alone is a banger. I think it’s the perfect combo of edutainment teaching about various subjects from history, art, music and more with a compelling anti hero in Carmen Sandiego. Plus it has really some heartwarming moments between her and the MC, Ivy and Zack.
Liberty’s Kids
Tumblr media
If you want to give a pretty good view of colonial/Revolutionary War, this is wonderful. I mean seriously not only goes into the founding fathers and battles and those historic dates. It also highlights lesser known figures like Phyllis Wheatley, Hamilton (long before the musical) the Hessians, anti semitism, Native genocide and others I’m forgetting for the moment, but seriously so cool. Also encouraged my first ship with James and Sarah. Also the song is still so impactful to today. I see a land with liberty for all Yet still I know the truth will rise and fall That's just the way it goes A word now to the wise The world was made to change Each day is a surprise I'm Lookin' at life through my own eyes Searchin' for a hero to idolize Feeling the pain as innocence dies I'm looking at life through my own eyes I'm hoping and praying for a brighter day I listen to my heart and I obey How can I see it any other way? I'm looking at life (looking at life) Through my own eyes
DC Superhero Girls
Tumblr media
Not my fav as the others, but I do enjoy the zany fun of it and it’s interpretation of all these famous dc characters in a literal high school au. Also the Zatanna episodes are my favorites so far.
Honorary mention: Archie's Weird Mysteries. I love Archie so this should be no surprise and I so enjoyed his adventures even if it was a bit narmy at times.

The Tablet of Vesuvius Caper
Despite the holiday season being over, and the crowds of eager tourists that entailed having gone home, security was no less tight that night at the Piazza del Campidoglio. Especially at the Piazza’s flagship building, the Capitoline Museums.
“Which, despite it’s name-“Player’s voice remarked quietly into her ear. “-Is actually only a single museum containing multiple different groups of archeological finds, relics, and artwork. Pretty neat, huh?”
Carmen couldn’t help the smile that pulled at the corners of her lips as she swiftly crossed the distance between two adjacent buildings. Safely in the shadows, she replied, “Extremely.” Her voice silent on the warm wind that blew in from the Mediterranean. “But did you know that the Capitoline Museums are also widely regarded as being one of the first museums in the world after it was opened up to the public by the Pope in 1734?”
“Not bad, Carm. You’ve definitely done your research. Now it’s time to hope the research I did was all correct too. I’ve got the passcode generator fired up, so just get to the Museums’ emergency backdoor and I can make a key to get us in.”
Having gone over the layout of the Piazza and the various buildings that called it home again and again in preparation for this caper, Carmen knew that the door Player spoke of was just a short distance ahead of her. Although it was officially an emergency exit only to be used in case of a fire or similar disaster, it’s purpose tonight would be as their perfect entryway into the Museums unseen.
Or at least, it was meant to be. As Carmen approached the door, she noticed that the passcode protected lock already shone a bright green. Meaning someone had unlocked the door and intentionally left it so, most likely to help speed up their get away.
“Player, we’ve got trouble.” She swung the door open and stepped inside.
“You’re telling me. Cameras are already down, and I’m not the one who turned them off. You’ll be going in blind, Red.” His voice wavered as he spoke. His worry for Carmen’s well-being evident from his warning.
“I’ll manage. You just focus on getting those cameras back online.” As she moved through the Museums back hallway, Carmen wracked her brain for who might have been able to infiltrate the building before her.
El topo and Neal were both out: Topo would have just dug his way in, and Neal would have likely opted for using the ventilation system rather than the backdoor. What about Mime Bomb? Or maybe Tigress? They had both used Dr. Bellum’s technology to gain an edge against her in the past.
“Whoever hacked into the Museum’s security definitely knew their stuff. I can barely find any trace of their online infiltration.” Player remarked. Carmen listened intently for a moment before opening another door that led further into the interior. Now she was passing by walls of centuries old artwork, heading towards the section possessing what both her and VILE were after.
“Are you saying you won’t be able to reactivate it to give us an advantage?” She peered around a corner before proceeding to the archeological relic gallery.
“Never said that Red.” Player’s smirk was practically audible, as a few keystrokes later he snapped his fingers. “Bingo! I’ve reactivated the cameras in the wing you’re headed. And…. oh no.”
Carmen stiffened as she heard the crackle of professional issued radios reverberate off the walls around her. As stealthily as possible, she slipped open the door leading to the archeology wing and closed it shut behind her. “I could hear security in the artwork gallery. Who do you see? Tigress? Le Chevre? The Mime?”
“None of them. It’s somebody I’ve never seen before.” A few moments of silence. “He has it! Carmen, he has the Tablet of Vesuvius!” That’s all Carmen needed to hear. With a sudden burst of speed that threw all caution of being caught to the wind, she rushed into the main viewing room just in time to watch as a man in a bright blue coat gently tuck the treasured tablet away in a rough-spun drawstring bag.
Having heard the sudden commotion, the man looked over his shoulder and shot her a curious half-smile. “Oh, you’re new.” He had neat sideburns stretching down to his bottom jaw, an impeccable black button up, and a contrasting red tie. He wasn’t much taller than Carmen herself but carried about him an air of relaxed confidence. Like he’d done this same thing a hundred times.
“I could say the same for you. Aren’t you a little old to be a new graduate of VILE’s? Or are they having to start calling in the benchwarmers just to keep up with me?” She took a few strides forward, urging the man to keep talking and keep his mind off trying to find a way past her.
“Lady, I’ve honestly got no idea what you’re on about.” He tucked the tablet bag close to his chest, as if he were carrying a small child, and took a few steps backwards from the recently pilfered display case. “What I meant was that you must be a new friend of Pops’. It really warms my heart to see him playing so well with others. A fellow detective trying to track me down, am I right?”
Now it was Carmen’s turn to stare incredulously at the man across from her. “Pops? Who on Earth are you talking about?” He was well within range of her grappling gun. If she could just get a clear shot at the bag, then the tablet would be safely in her hands.
The stranger looked her up and down. “Y’know now that you mention it, you do have significantly better fashion sense than most detectives and private eyes I’ve encountered.” His grip on the sack tightened. “Which can only mean that you’re a rival thief here to steal the same treasure as me.”
Carmen smirked and shrugged her shoulders. “Guilty as charged. Now put the relic back where you got it from before I have to take it from you.”
The male thief quirked an eyebrow. “A thief who steals precious treasures just to return them. What a waste! I, on the other hand, have a much better idea of what to use the tablet for.” Carmen only had a moment’s time to react as he raised his hand in the air. Reflecting off the moonlight streaming in through the windows, her eyes caught a small spherical object between his fingers just as he slammed it down to the floor.
In an instant, the area where the thief had been was rapidly being enveloped by a layer of thick white smoke. “Player!” Carmen called into her earpiece, rushing into the smoke to find any trace of her quarry.
“I’ve got eyes on him. He went out a door at the back of the room leading off the main showroom.” Despite the heavy smoke hampering her vision, her expertly trained eyes cut through it and homed in on the door the thief had absconded through. Without a moment to lose, Carmen rushed towards the door and nearly stampeded over the man on the other side.
Before she could make any kind of comment about having caught up with him so easily, Carmen saw why the man had stopped in his tracks so early on in their chase. Standing halfway through the narrow hallway was a figure dressed up in lime green and black punk rock attire.
“Paperstar.”
“Carmen Sandiego.” Her piercing gaze shifted to the blue coated man beside her. “And associate. I’ll say this once. Hand over the relic and I’ll let you both leave this place. Try to run away and…” She produced a sheet of brightly colored construction paper from a holster on her thigh and deftly folded it into a dangerously accurate looking replica of a shuriken.
The male thief scoffed, pushing his way past Carmen and closer towards the VILE operative. “Or what? You’ll pelt us with your papier-mâché?”
Paperstar frowned. “I’ll do much more than that to you, monkey face.” She reared her hand back and threw the paper shuriken with all her weight behind it.
“Monkey face?! Why do people keep saying-“
“Move!” Carmen tackled him to the ground just as the folded weapon sliced through the space they had previously been occupying. It lodged itself deep into the mahogany door behind them, earning a nervous squeak from the blue sporting thief.
“Crap! Nice save, Red.” He wiggled his way out from underneath Carmen and reached deep within the folds of his blue jacket to produce a small pistol. Just barely had the sound of crinkling paper reached his ears did he notice that Paperstar had now resupplied herself with half a dozen paper shurikens.
“Stop it! Both of you!” While the male thief was still down on one knee, Carmen had already thrown herself back up onto her feet and was yelling in a hushed tone. “If you two go to shooting and throwing things at each other, the guards will be on us in seconds. Then nobody gets the tablet.”
The other two thieves seemed to consider this for a moment. “That tablet belongs to VILE, Carmen. Make this easy on yourself for once and have your henchman give it up.”
“Henchman? I’m nobody’s hired goon, little Miss ‘Papercut’.”
Before further aggravations and taunts could be hurled, Carmen spoke; “The tablet *belongs* in a museum. Not to you, not to VILE, and especially not to this guy.” She glowered down at the thief, eyes shifting to the tablet hidden away inside the drawstring bag in his other hand. “What does VILE even want with such a random piece of Roman history?”
Paperstar shifted uncomfortably on her feet. Perhaps unused to going so long without folding something with her idle hands. “Professor Gunnar simply tells me what to steal and where. I make a point of not asking too many questions, unlike a certain little Black Sheep.”
Now it was the blue coated thief’s turn to interject on Carmen’s behalf. “Maybe I could be of some help in shedding light as to why any of us are interested in this little beauty.” He stood up, pocketed his weapon, and dusted off his jacket’s shoulder pad.
“The Vesuvius Tablet, one of the most famous relics recovered from the site of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. Famous, in fact, for the depiction of Mount Vesuvius on it’s front and the seemingly indecipherable text on the back. It’s neither Roman nor Greek, not even early Persian or Aramaic.”
“So, it’s in a language nobody’s ever discovered.” Carmen had read up on the history of the tablet. From it’s recovery in 1750, to it’s public release to the Capitoline Museums’ archeological gallery just last year. Despite those countless hours of research, she still couldn’t understand why VILE sought to pillage the item.
“I never said that, Ms. Sandiego.” He smirked, a knowing thing that did little to make her thing the tablet was any better off with the male thief than VILE. “According to some confidential reports from the first excavation team sent by the king of Naples, the Tablet of Vesuvius initially read something like a map. However, the further the tablet was taken away from it’s resting place in Pompeii, the more illegible the words on it became.”
Paperstar chimed in, a giggle playing on her lips. “You don’t seem to know when to shut your mouth, do you, old man? I can help with that.” She shifted a foot backwards, preparing herself for the coming encounter.
“So I’ve been told. I’ll try to keep this short and sweet then.” He lightly jabbed at Carmen with his elbow. “How about you go high and I go low, Red?” He whispered.
“What? But just a minute ago you were the one throwing smoke bombs and running away from me.”
“Yeah, well, seeing as you’re not the one trying to merc me at the moment, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to suggest a team-up. After all, I get the sense you and this girl really don’t care for each other.” The stranger did have a point. After all, the absolute worst Carmen would do is leave him tied up for the proper authorities to find. Paperstar on the other hand….
“You’ve got me there. Let’s move!” Shurikens as deadly as steel sliced through the air as the pair of thieves pressed an advance towards their neon green assailant. With a high jump, Carmen pushed herself off the side of the wall and aimed a kick towards Paperstar’s head.
She dodged but stayed distracted long enough for the blue coated thief to get in close and swipe her legs out from underneath her. “No!” The paper wielder fell flat on her back, with Carmen’s boot soon digging into her gut.
“Too slow, Papercut. Better luck next time?” She quipped. Before Paperstar could spit out the vitriol that was surely brewing between her lips, the communicator on her arm flashed bright green.
“Paperstar,” The voice of Professor Gunnar emanated from it. “Local authorities are en-route to the Museums. It appears a detachment of Interpol is already present on the grounds. This is an Alpha zero-one situation. Vacate the region and return to the isle immediately.”
“Interpol.” The male thief murmured. “Just what I needed.”
“Devineaux.”
“Zenigata.”
The two looked up at each other. “Wait, you have someone from Interpol chasing you?” Carmen probed.
“For the better part of my entire career, yeah. You?”
“Something like that. He’s more of a minor annoyance, but-“
Paperstar’s eye roll was nearly audible. “Wow, great, you two are such besties. Now let me up so I can-“
“Ah, ah, ah. What’s the magic word?” The thief dug into his pocket and retrieved a bundle of cylinders consisting of interlacing bamboo strips. He swiftly set out about attaching them to Paperstar’s fingers, much to her protest. “There, I’d like to see you try and fold paper with your fingers all stuck together.”
“What - CHINESE FINGER TRAPS?!” She raged, only succeeding in making them tighter the more she pulled. “LITERALLY WHY DO YOU HAVE THESE?”
“Oldest trick in the book, kid. Well, the book I just made up in my head, but you get the idea.” He pointed down the hallway. “There’s a stairwell that leads to the roof down this way, Red. Let’s motor and leave our little paper tiger for the cops.”
“Let’s.” Carmen agreed with a smile. They made their down the hallway just as Paperstar finally moved herself into a sitting position against the wall.
“I will find you, Black Sheep! VILE will find you! And when we do, there won’t be anything left for-“
“Jeez, maybe I should have brought one for her mouth too.” The thief opened the door. “Ladies first.”
“You think?” As she slipped by, Carmen carefully slipped the weighty bag from the blue thief’s hand. As he turned around to jeer one last time, he didn’t even seem to notice.
“Toodles, Papercut. See you around!” With the two of them safely within the stairwell, he slammed the door shut. Only then, when Carmen was halfway up the stairs, did he notice he was missing something. “Hey! No fair, I thought we had something going there for a minute!”
“Sorry, but I don’t exactly play well with other thieves.” With the door to the roof now in reach, she slowed and called back behind her. “Speaking of, they don’t usually go this long without at least telling me their name. What’s you?”
The blue jacket wearing thief appeared at the bottom of the stairs and looked up at her, something like anticipation gleaming in his eyes. “My name, Ms. Sandiego? My name is Lupin the Third, grandson of the original gentleman thief, Arsene Lupin. And when I set my eyes on a treasure, I never fail in stealing it.”
“Sorry to disappoint, Lupin, but I think you’ll just have to let this one go.” Carmen placed a hand on the doorknob.
“Real quick, Red. Why do you think these people, the ones you call VILE, are after that tablet? And what’s stopping them from stealing it again later after you’ve left?” He took a few steps up the stairs. “Like I said before, that tablet isn’t just a pretty picture of Mount Vesuvius, it’s intended use is as a map leading to something. Only way to ensure VILE won’t want to steal it again is to steal whatever it leads to, right?”
Carmen wavered. If the tablet really was a map and it lead to some kind of…treasure, then VILE would stop at nothing to get their claws on it. “Okay, Lupin. So what exactly are you suggesting I do with it?”
“Well, seeing as I’m the only one privy as to how the map needs to be decoded, I’d say you can hold onto it for me. Don’t think of it so much as stealing, more like borrowing.” He chuckled. “How about another team-up? You hold onto the tablet, I can show you how to decode the map, and we take whatever VILE would have any interest in stealing. Sound like a plan?”
Player’s voice buzzed in her ear. “Carmen, Interpol forces and local police are surrounding the Museums. Zack and Ivy have the car running, but it might not matter if you hang around too long. How do you wanna play this?”
She debated for only a moment. The man was letting her keep the tablet, so in any case she’d still be coming out on top. He may have been a thief, but he at least seemed earnest about wanting to work together to outset VILE from getting their hands on the relic.
“Okay, fine. My people will talk to your’s and we’ll get a meeting place set up. There, we can decode the map and find whatever it leads to.”
“Music to my ears, Red.” He joined her nearly at the door. “Now, how‘s about we make our escape?” Making sure that the tablet was secure in her hands, Carmen opened the door into the warm Mediterranean night.
Bright spotlights illuminated the entirety of the Museums’ rooftop. From squarely in the center, a man in a dull burgundy trench-coat faced the opening door.
“LUPIN!” He yelled. “I knew you’d be here. You’ve got a lot of nerve coming back to Italy after last year.”
“Pops! So good to see you again after my, shall we say, extended hiatus?”
Carmen quirked an eyebrow at him.
“Long story, I met Leonardo Da Vinci. I’ll tell you next time. You get out of here, I’ll keep the Old Man and Interpol busy.” He winked. “I’ll see when I see you.” And with that, Lupin strutted out to meet Inspector Zenigata as Carmen excused herself to the shadows.
True to his word, the Italian police force seemed much more preoccupied with keeping their sights on Lupin than Carmen herself and she was able to beat a hasty getaway to Zach and Ivy’s waiting vehicle.
“Carm,” Player started once they were safely on the road. “Do you really think that Lupin guy’s legit? How do know anything he’s saying about a treasure map on the Tablet of Vesuvius is true?”
“I’m not sure. He seems earnest enough, but…” Carmen stared at the ancient relic in her hands, turning it over. “Maybe he’s on to something. See if you can turn up anything about those excavation reports he mentioned, the ones from the 18th century.” She checked her watch. “In the morning. You’ve got school tomorrow, right? I can’t have my white hat getting detention any time soon.”
Player grumbled. “Pfft, hackers don’t have bedtimes. While I’m at it, I’ll see what I can find out about this Lupin III guy. He sure seemed to know his stuff.” He shifted on the other end of the call. “Goodnight, Carmen. You did good tonight.”
“You too, Player. Sleep well.” Carmen ended the communication and leaned forward between the two front seats. “Guys, take us back to the hotel. I think it’s time we all got some shut-eye.”
“You got it, Carm. Ivy, get my ‘Post-caper tunes to rock out to’ playlist started. I’m going to merge.”
~~~~
“So, Lupin, you really think she’s the real deal?” Jigen hung a hand outside of the Fiat 500’s passenger window, gently shaking off the ash from the still burning end. He returned it to his lips and took a long drag. “She better be, seeing as you gave up the relic just to earn her trust.”
Beside him, Lupin thoughtfully scrolled through a number of news articles on his cellphone. “‘La femme rouge’, the red woman. She breaks, she enters, and apparently, she steals before others can. She’s done some impressive work.” He laid down his phone, reaching into the backseat to procure a book recently pilfered from a private collection. “I believe this could be the start of a beautiful friendship, or at least a mutually beneficial one.”
“And how about Pops? Was he happy to see you again?”
“As a clam. I gave him the old runaround, then borrowed a uniform from an extremely unfortunate Interpol agent at the scene and slipped away. Poor soul, was not a good day to wear the underwear with the hearts on them.” The two shared a chuckle. Jigen snuffed out his flame, just in time to help Lupin light one of his own.
“Now, what’s this about a treasure you were telling Red all about? You know I’m always down to get our hands on something shiny, but I’d at least like to know what kind of scheme you're cookin' up” Jigen pulled his lighter away from Lupin’s cigarette, giving him a few moments to take a couple starting puffs.
“Old pal, have I got a story for you.” He propped the book up on the steering wheel and turned a number of pages in. “And this one’s called ‘The legend of the Tomb of Hercules.’”
Red Crackle Week Day 6: Villains
Tumblr media
You can't trust anyone but yourself. Professor Gunnar Maelstrom knew that better than anyone else in the world.
He actually knew a lot of things better than everyone. Including that every single person on Earth can be manipulated if the right strings were pulled. Even himself. The meeting he was about to have was because he wanted to make sure he would keep being the manipulator in his game. And he would guarantee it. In a way or another.
In his private office, he was waiting for her.
His star student.
The perfect apprentice. The perfect successor.
Maelstrom always wanted to have an heir to his empire, but as he was incapable of having children, Paper Star was the closest he would ever have to a daughter. Of course, someone who comes from his own bloodline would have been the ideal, but he knew Paper Star would honor his lineage right.
Maelstrom knew she had the potential in her. She was like a rough diamond. Maelstrom only needed to lapidate her correctly.
Everything was going according to the plan. Maelstrom would like to keep it like that. In his way. The best way. He had bigger ambitions for himself and his future. Too much was at stake for Carmen Sandiego to ruin everything.
-You wanted to see me, Professor?-Paper Star enters.
-Ah, my dear Paper Star. I think you must be aware of why I called you today.
-Let me guess...The lovebirds?-She asks with a smirk. That question was merely a formality. She knew they were going to talk about them. Everyone else was.
People even invented a nickname to reference both of them:"Red Crackle." There sure was a lot to comment about on V.I.L.E.'s new favorite duo. They were seemingly an unbeatable combination with their undeniable chemestry, romantic tension, and mutual understanding. After all, they were two of V.I.L.E.'s best operatives. What could possibly go wrong?
Maelstrom and Paper Star needed to ensure nothing would go wrong.
-Yes...Them.-Maelstrom says. Love really disgusted him.-You know I have never been too fond of...Feelings and trivial emotions.
-Oh I know exactly what you are keen on, Professor:Using people's sensations against them. To lure the fools to make what you want. And you know how much I respect that.
-Yes. Speaking of which, have you started the studies on the human mind like I suggested you to?
-Right away, Professor. Why?
-You'll need to put them to use.
-What for?
-To keep an eye on our resident "couple". And make sure they behave...
TO BE CONTINUED...
What I think particular Carmen Sandiego characters favourite movie(s) are and I won't be explaining why but I also will:
Julia: Pride & Prejudice + Sense & Sensibility exclusively watched one after the other and HATES the TV adaption of Pride & Prejudice with a PURE. BURNING. PASSION. And thinks Emma was a good try for that same vibe.
Player: Megamind and 9, claiming that they both shared the sad fate of poor timing and being for a more intelligent audience than they were marketed for.
Carmen: Nothing in particular because everything she watches never really takes her fancy and always finds a flaw in the production of the movie that ruins it for her. Due to this, she Is constantly watching new movies and never re watches the same one twice.
Gray: sigh marvel movies...
Chase: The Grand Budapest Hotel because Wes Anderson style movies are the only pure and constant mental stimulateion in his life that end with true satisfaction. And it's a murder mystery. And it's a great movie. And that one scene where Gustav runs away after being questioned if he was the murderer always gets him to laugh.
Ivy: The only person in history who liked Cars 2.
Zack: 2008's Speed Racer because. Well. Saying something like Fast and Furious just doesn't make sense for him somehow. And Spiderman 3. Only Spiderman 3.
Shadowsan: Doesn't watch movies anymore ever since Zack showed him Barnyard :(.
Zari: Horror. And Fight Club. I feel like she'd scoff at you and say that if you don't like it then you clearly don't understand how it's a 'methphor for punching through the insulation that you put around yourself' despite religiously eating chicken, broccoli and rice every night for dinner.
Sheena: ONLY watches Netflix movies. The idea of clicking out a DVD disc and putting it carefully into a DVD player and continuing to press 'play movie' is disgusting to her.
Paper Star: Does not consume video media.
Brunt: Dodgeball or anything with Ryan Reynolds in it I dunno.
Cleo: Finds movies uncivilised and exclusively watches stage performances. But in a perfect world I'd say The Devil Wears Prada because Miranda Presley seems like someone she'd know in real life.
Bellum: Instagram reels.
Chief: Documentaries that you can only buy at the post office or via mail-in from the Readers Digest monthly magazine.
Do you do headcanons?? If so can i get some domestic carulia headcanons 👀 like after carmen spends some time in argentina but then she misses jules so she goes back to england but jules is sad she left her so abruptly and isnt taking her shit so carmen moves near her and like has to re-win her over🥺🥺
anon, i absolutely do headcanons!! my brain is practically a dump for headcanons, you’ve come to the right place :D and if anyone ever wants me to write any just leave me a request in my inbox!
here is part one of my classic fic style headcanons based off of the prompt you’ve given (which is SO good by the way please i am so tempted to write it into a full fic and add to my mountain pile of drafts rn-):
carmen loves her mother, she really does. she’s sweet and kind and her family. it’s all she’s ever dreamed of. after carlotta sees her standing on her doorstep, her warm brown eyes freeze and then she gasps, launching forward and hugging her equally as shocked daughter.
“your eyes. my god, i would recognize them anywhere. [given name], is that you?”
“it’s carmen, actually,” she manages to say, her mother hugging her like it’s the end of the world. and her mother doesn’t question it, merely letting go and smiling at her with tear filled eyes.
“well, carmen, it’s nice to meet you.”
things aren’t perfect after that, of course. there are questions, so many of them that they stay up the entirety of the second night talking (not the first, carlotta insisted that she had to get some sleep). carlotta doesn’t seem fazed when she tells her about VILE and stealing from them, cries when she brings up her father, but they push through it because now they have each other.
it’s strange, then, the feeling she gets a month or so later. she’s lying on the couch after a few rounds of games with the orphanage kids, and she doesn’t feel... satisfied. she should, shouldn’t she? this is what she’s spent her life searching for. she left her team behind to focus on this, to give something to herself for once.
it’s maddening. she can’t figure it out, talking to player as she bounces a ball against the ceiling. her mom worries, asking her what’s wrong, but she can’t answer her because she doesn’t know.
another few weeks pass. she’s cleaning her tools, sorting through her red coat for some nostalgia. a slip of paper falls out, and written on it is the address to this house she’s living in, and-
“player- i never asked, and i’m not sure if you even know. who found the address?”
he hesitates. a beat, then— “your favourite ACME agent.”
oh. oh. jules. she hasn’t let herself think of her ever since she left them all behind, afraid of the memories of her brainwashed time being dredged up. julia probably hates her, and rightfully so.
but she’s buzzing. she feels like she’s onto something, like satisfaction is just out of her reach, and player is more than happy to check up on julia’s blog for her whereabouts. turns out she’s not in france but in england, visiting her mother, telling her blog audience that’s why she’ll be inactive for a while.
carmen laughs at the irony. player books her a flight.
fast forward and she’s halfway to julia’s mother’s place and in the middle of the sidewalk, she stops, suitcase rolling behind her. she probably shouldn’t be showing up randomly like this, no warning and dropping back into julia’s life when she doesn’t need it. julia’s had to have moved on by now, the girl in red just someone who was too afraid to meet up with her before she left.
“red, what’s up?” player asks her, staring at her unmoving icon on his screen. “you having second thoughts?”
“kind of, yeah,” she admits. “i’m just not sure if-”
there’s a tap on her shoulder. carmen turns around and feels her heart drop out of her chest.
julia argent stares back at her, arms crossed and looking exactly the same with her glasses and dressed in a casual tan coat, yellow sweater, and black jeans. she looked good, and, well, annoyed.
“hey, jules!” the greeting doesn’t come out as confident and suave as she hoped, but it suffices, and player speaks excitedly from his end. tell julia i said hi! he says, before cutting off.
“by the way, player says h—”
“ms. sandiego,” julia says stiffly, none of the playful flirting and easy tones that she’s gotten used to. “why are you here?”
“i thought you—” carmen stammers, reaching into her pocket and showing her the slip of paper. “you gave me this, and i wanted to thank you. also you know you can call me carmen.”
something in julia’s eyes softens at the sight of the paper, but then hardens again when she looks back at her. “you’re welcome. you didn’t have to come all this way to tell me, though. and calling you by a first name basis would imply that we’re friends, but it seems that we’re not, doesn’t it?”
carmen chokes a little, eyes widening. “we’re not- friends?”
“i would think a friend would at least say goodbye or get in contact with me any way before disappearing for months, so no, ms. sandiego, i don’t think we are.”
carmen’s first instinct is to feel offended, but she understands where the agent’s slight hostility towards her is coming from. this wasn’t just julia being petty, it was the consequences of her actions that she had to now make up for.
“jules, i’m sorry,” she says, going to grab her arm but drawing back at the last second. right. their subtle touches with each other were definitely off limits now. “we can talk about this in somewhere that’s not a public sidewalk, and i’ll explain everything, i promise.”
julia’s mouth twists into a frown, and she uncrosses her arms, one finger pushing up her glasses. she looks her square in the eye, her gaze cold and unflinching. “what is there to explain, exactly? how you left me- left us all so abruptly, and gave your closest family a note to remember you by? zack and ivy mentioned it to me- they’re being trained for ACME now, but i’m sure you knew that already.”
she didn’t. she hasn’t asked player for updates for a month. a heavy exhale escapes her, and she wishes she had player in her ear. julia lets out a humourless laugh at her lack of a response.
“i guess you found something better, ms. sandiego. i’m happy for you.”
the declaration is bitter- and with that, julia spins on her heel and walks away, heading to her mother’s house. carmen stands with her suitcase on the sidewalk, apologies on the tip of her tongue, wanting to chase after her. she swallows them down and drops onto the nearest bench, burying her face in her hands and tapping her earring so player can reconnect.
“red! how’d it go? what has julia been up to? is she-” player’s voice bursts through with questions, and carmen doesn’t say a word, a new mission in mind.
“do you know where julia is staying? not her mom’s place, i’m assuming.”
if player is surprised by the question, he doesn’t comment, and carmen can hear his keyboard clacking as he scans address books and properties. “she’s a couple blocks over, i’ll text you the address,” he says at last. carmen’s phone pings with the incoming text, but that’s not the actual thing she’s looking for.
“thanks, player. are there any houses up for sale near her street?”
“give me a second.” player pauses, scrolling through listings, and then continues. “there’s one like, diagonally across from her house, actually.”
“we have any funds left from our world saving?” she can tell player knows what she’s asking for now, from the telltale anxious drumming on his desk and the slower than usual clicking.
“a couple million, actually. i thought we were slowly distributing to-”
“i’ll make up for it, maybe nag some of the VILE stragglers and the remaining stolen artifacts and whatnot. can you set up a meeting with the house owner so we can wire the funds over?”
“this is a bad idea,” player cautions.
carmen grins. “and since when have i ever been known to have a good one?”
part two will be up as soon as i can get it written out! if you’re the anon that sent this, send me an ask about part two so i can answer it that way!
Unexpected Visit
Pairing: Carulia
Prompt: confession
“Agent Argent, I assume you are about to head out for the day?” asked Chief, raising an eyebrow at the amount of work Julia had on her desk.
Julia sighed, “Actually, I am not Chief. I have to figure out a way to come in contact with an old friend who could help me solve this case. It is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated.”
“I’m sorry to hear that Agent. Maybe you’ll have some luck one of these days.” Chief started heading out, but not before saying “Oh and Agent, if you do come into contact with your friend, please, tell Ms. Sandiego I said hello.”
“But how did you kn-” Julia cut off, knowing well enough she wouldn’t get an answer. She continued to work on her current personal mission for another 30 minutes before heading home.
“Carmen Sandiego, I really hope I’m able to find you soon enough.”
2 days earlier, Carmen’s POV
“Player, I’ve been thinking about giving my favorite ACME agent a little visit. Fortunately, it’s not about any sort of mission. What do you think?” Carmen was pacing around her home as she talked with her friend, hoping to get some advice while managing to be as vague as possible about the motives for her wanting to visit Jules.
Player knew very well what Carmen’s intentions were in paying a visit to her friend in France. “I don’t know Red. Depends on what your reasons are for wanting to see her.”
“What, can’t a gal just want to visit an old friend?” Carmen shrugged as she spoke, trying her best to sound aloof about the entire situation.
“Not when that friend is someone you have feelings for.”
“Wait. What the- how did you even come to that conclusion?”
“Quite simple Red, I just saw the way you look at her. The longing in your eyes to be able to talk to her outside of a work setting instead of just solving crime.” Player said smugly.
Carmen couldn’t even answer, she was dumbfounded.
“Am I really that obvious..? Player, please, what if she’s noticed the flirts when we would work on missions together. I don’t think she’d be okay with that.” Carmen looked at the screen, hoping her friend would comfort her.
“Look Red, I wouldn’t mention it if I didn’t think you should do it, but I think you should confess to Jules.” Player gave her the most serious look he had, hoping she would see that this was something she had to do.
“I...I don’t know Player. What if I do confess, then what? It won’t do anything except possibly damage everything I have as her friend. I would hate for that to happen to me and Jules.” Carmen sighed, scared of what could happen if she were to confess to her friend.
“Listen to me. All this flirty banter, the roses, almost literally every single interaction between you two. You don’t think this has gone unnoticed do you? Sure she may have not realized that was you on the train, but she definitely isn’t dumb.” Player knew he was right, and so did Carmen, but she couldn’t really say anything.
“I’ll go ahead and go, alright Player? I need to think some things over and before you ask, yes, I have decided to tell her. In person, hopefully it will be easier that way. See you later.” Carmen hung up before Player could say anything, and slid down the wall, wondering what she’d got herself into.
Present day, Julia’s POV
Julia walked home, stopping by her favorite café to grab a latte in hopes of receiving enough energy from it to continue her search for ‘la femme rouge’, as her partner liked to call her.
When she stepped inside her apartment, she noticed the flowers hanging and just decorating her house. Then she saw the notes on the wall, with arrows pointing towards a figure emerging from the shadows.
“Carmen Sandiego? Is that you?”
Carmen walked out of the corner she stood in, shining her usual smile towards Julia.
“Jules, happy to see you. Sorry for the unexpected visit, it just seemed better to have this happen this way.”
Julia looked around, wondering what could possibly be hidden amongst the flowers and..the dinner on the table?
“Ms. Sandiego, would you mind explaining what is going on here?” Julia gave Carmen a questioning look, hoping she would get some answers.
“So Jules, please sit down. I’ll explain everything during dinner, if that’s okay with you.” Carmen almost seemed....nervous. Julia would make a point to bring it up over dinner.
She walked over to her table, while Carmen pulled out the chair for her to sit.
“So, Ms. Sandiego, what brings you here to my apartment? I assume it’s having something to do with VILE? Although that wouldn’t explain the dinner and flowers..” Julia stopped her musings, looking up at Carmen just in time to see her looking at her, smiling. Huh.
“Actually Jules, I had something entirely different in mind. This is more of a personal matter.” Carmen kept smiling confidently in spite of her nerves, making sure Julia didn’t take notice.
“Oh? Is that so? Well then, I’d love to hear this. Please do tell me what it is that brought you all the way to Poitiers.” Julia was growing more and more curious by the second, anxious for the words about to come out of Carmen’s mouth.
“Well, so here’s the thing. Jules, I like you. As more than a friend. I thought, well actually Player suggested the in person part of this, that I should tell this to you. I wanted to do something special and I thought the roses and dinner at your apartment would be perfect and formal enough. I hope you don’t mind the mess that will ensue.” Carmen laughed at this last bit and looked up at Julia for the first time since beginning to confess, who looked shocked.
“Wow. Ms. Sandiego, I never would have guessed it. Although that would explain why you seemed nervous, even if you did try to hide it. I know you well enough to see through the confident mask you put on tonight.”
“Jules, please don’t think an-” Julia stopped her talking there, not wanting Carmen to feel bad about anything.
“Carmen, please do not feel bad about this. I’m trying to think back to everything and I’m finding an explanation for it now. I guess that explains a lot that has occurred in the past year or so.” Julia looked at Carmen, who just looked guilty, like somehow her feelings were entirely wrong and she had no entitlement to them.
“Ms. Sandiego, what I’m trying to say is I’m pleasantly surprised with this new information. I was actually working on trying to find a way to ask you to meet up, for matters not related to ACME. Because I feel the same way Carmen. You are so incredibly talented and an amazing person. You always manage to help others and I admire you for it. Actually, I’m surprised that you, being an international super thief, didn’t pick up on the signals that I’ve been sending you this entire time. Of course I noticed the flirts you’d initiate, and I’d send the same energy back. I like you Carmen.” Julia was definitely blushing by now, amazed at the confession that she’d just given.
“Wait you flirted back? And I didn’t notice? Jules I thought you were only being friendly.” Carmen looked at Julia inquisitively, wondering how she managed to not notice.
“Oh mon dieu, tu es très très mignonne.” Julia muttered this under her breath, so the scarlet super thief wouldn’t be able to catch what she said.
Just as Carmen was about to ask what Julia had said, Julia exclaimed “You are so oblivious, please don’t tell me you think this is something a friend would do.” Julia leaned in and gave Carmen a kiss, which left Carmen astounded.
Julia pulled away, smiling at the now blushing thief. Carmen still couldn’t process what just happened but in spite of that she looked at Julia and answered her question.
“Actually I’d rather that not be something friends do. I’d be incredibly disappointed.” She said this with a smile, glad to know that the feelings were reciprocated.
“So..what now Ms. Sandiego?” Julia was looking at Carmen, hoping for any indication of what would come next.
“Well, hopefully, what we do first is enjoy this dinner, don’t you think Jules? It sure would be a bad idea to let this go to waste.” Carmen grabbed a hold on Julia’s hand, leading her back to the table. Julia hadn’t even noticed how they had drifted away from the dining area, but she did take notice of Carmen’s hand in hers. She smiled and let the lady in red lead her.
Carmen grabbed two roses on their way to the table, making sure to put one in Julia’s hair, and giving her the other.
“You know Jules, thank you. This was one of the scariest moments of my life and yet you made it one of the most memorable.”
Julia looked at her, making sure to take in everything that was this girl, and she took their interlocked hands gave Carmen a kiss on her hand.
“Let’s eat, we can take care of the flowers later. Although I quite like them, they add a hint of color to the apartment.” Julia said this and looked at Carmen, who even if she wasn’t rocking her usual red hat and coat, still had many hints of red on her outfit.
Julia and Carmen smiled as they both sat down to enjoy their dinner, happy to be in the presence of each other.
