not to like wax poetic about the literary nuances of Black Fucking Butler but i feel i need to point out how insanely campy it is. oh okay cool the butler is throwing butter knives at people with guns and winning. we're battling undertaker's zombie army by starting a boy band (we actually got the idea from the ZOMBIES' boy band). theres a curry making competition and its so important it needs an entire volume and a continuing motif dedicated to it. the Grim Reaper Death Gods are all cornballs with gardening sheers. the contradiction. the unintended irony.

i think the manga is like. toeing the line of camp. like its silly yet takes itself so seriously but its not too silly. my immersion is not broken by the silliness. but the anime is uncharted levels of camp. what the Hell was going on with pluto. you're gonna look me in the eye and tell me the phantomhives own a fifty foot dog thing and no one has noticed. simply one hell of a deer. ice skating. theres opium in funtom candy. the queen of england is maybe a little girl. speaking of which, the city of london just burned down. yeah the whole thing. the fifty foot dog was there too.

it's so ridiculously out of left field and the fact that none of the characters seem to notice or care feels like being gaslit. camp so visceral it's causing psychic damage. i am constantly begging the narrative to break character just once and acknowledge its silliness but doing so would negate the lack of awareness that makes it camp. its dated and timeless. an absolute milestone in camp history.

why does this fandom act like dany never suffered again after she gains her dragons? i saw an improperly tagged post on my for you page here and in the tags people are genuinely saying that after dany births her dragons, she never experiences sexual violence or oppression again unlike sansa who has to use her "ladies charms" to survive. i couldn't believe my eyes as i read tag after tag explaining why dany is a girlboss who never experiences anything bad after agot. what is wrong with tha fandom?

It's cause! A subsection of Stansas have adopted the show's (misogynistic) logic that suffering = deserves a good ending, so they want to play the suffering Olympics so Sansa ends up looking the most deserving of a happy ending. They're constantly downplaying other female characters and their trauma to fit their logic. Dany has dragons -> which offers her protection -> which means she hasn't suffered as much as Sansa. Arya has a sword -> which means she can fight back -> which means she hasn't suffered the same way Sansa has. Cersei has power -> which means she has control over her circumstances -> which means she hasn't been victimized the same way Sansa has. And so on and so forth. It's nothing but thinly veiled misogyny based on fundamentally misinterpreting the books cause the story being told doesn't make their favorite look special enough for them. Even a cursory glance at the books would prove these takes incorrect but something tells me they haven't taken the time to actually read them.

She just... yelled at him? Threatened him? Maybe she said something mean, about how she only wants him to behave once? She wasn't a good mother, not a good person, it's not an impossible scenario. But she must have hurt him so much about it. A little baby, Holding back tears, in the cold and alone just wanting to make his mother happy for a second. He doesn't like it when she screams, it scares him.

He must hate being yelled at, probably hates being left alone and doesn't like the cold or The smell of drinks and perfumes. Everything reminds him of that last moment with her

I do think it's important that in children media not everything is a perfect happy ending. I don't mean that things should have super bittersweet endings all the time or have things that would really upset a child. I also think that if things aren't going great in that child's life then super happy children media is a good thing for the child to take a break and simply be happy (can relate to that). But I also do believe sometimes it's good to show some realities a child can go through and not have them 'be fixed', because for that child the reality sometimes is that it won't 'get resolved and get a happy ending'. I think children media does that a lot with the subject of death, but not so much with other topics. And I'm not saying this as an adult that wants children media to be like adult media, not at all, i am saying this as someone that was a child and experienced some bad situations and it would have been comforting to sometimes not see super happy endings, and i'm sure there are and were other children that thought the same

edit: did not phrase this well. a lot of children media do absolutely handle multiple topics and show the realities of it, i'm talking about the endings of a show/movie, or status quos changes, how everything usually gets fixed at the end

Beatrice Horseman is still the best portrayal of an abusive parent with a traumatic upbringing I've seen tbh. She is condemned for her actions and there's a lot of emphasis placed on how her abuse affected Bojack growing up, but she's still a person , one who grew up in a horrible situation who didn't ask for any of this, and she does deserve sympathy for that. I don’t want to start drama but I’ve seen some concerning posts floating around about how distasteful and disappointing it is to see certain creators “support” Dorian and I hate to break it to you guys, but if you’ve ever interacted, shared or created anything regarding The Arcana you are supporting Dorian yourselves.

Being in the fandom alone is supporting Dorian by creating engagement, publicizing the game and being part of the audience they’re trying to target.

And even if you were to delete your whole blog and everything you’ve ever posted to enjoy the original game in private you would still be supporting Dorian by bringing traffic to the app they now own.

The one and only way you have to stop supporting Dorian, if you care about it so much, would be to distance yourself from the series entirely and go join another fandom. Never play the original game ever again and never interact with any fan creation regarding it from now on. 👋

my one big gripe with the owl house will always be what they did with the blight parents. they built them up in amity’s flashback and the first episode they appear in as a couple on equal standing with each other, whose abusiveness manifests in different but equally malicious ways. who terrorize their kids because they care about their company more than their children and parade them like status symbols. and even alador, the less active parent, can stop Odalia’s abuse at any time because they’re EQUAL in their partnership but doesn’t bother because he either doesn’t care what she’s doing or they’re working together to do it.

even in the episode centering around alador, they never show any indication that odalia is forcing his hand, or even that he’s against odalia’s decisions at all. at most they show he hasn’t talked to his children in like 10 years and doesn’t know or care what they want until amity shows potential in abominations, which alador then cares about. (the twins show magical potential in that episode too, and he still didn’t care btw.) even then they reinforce the fact that alador can stop odalia’s abuse at any time by promising to talk to her about amity’s hair in a way that implies he’s confident odalia will listen. he never promises amity that he’ll talk to odalia about her not wanting to join a coven. and later we find out odalia is still able to ground the blight kids and break amity’s belongings without any mention of resistance from alador.

and then in all of a sudden they retcon these two to the Evil Woman and her battered, terrified husband who’s been Protecting The Kids All Along by... not wanting anything to do with them and twiddling his thumbs and sometimes helping as his wife tormented them? but don’t worry! he’s Good Now! because odalia is actively (and maybe knowingly) helping belos with genocide in a plan that makes absolutely no sense, even though the last time we saw her, she and her husband were in a tense standing with belos for “building their own private army.” but yeah, i guess belos just let her in on secrets only the coven heads knew. they gotta get the audience to hate odalia enough so they think alador’s new backstory makes sense.

and according to the fandom, belos take her sigil off even though there no evidence it can be taken off and though hes REALLY intent on killing everything on the isles, including the children, a grimwalker who had no magic to threaten him with, and also his most loyal servants! because like kikimora, terra snapdragon, and lilith clawthorne and even amity blight in some circles, this is an Irredeemable Evil Woman who does Evil Things and who cares if it makes sense she’s Evil and thats what matters!

and now i guess alador’s the perfect dad now. he and amity have to reconnect after the years of not talking to his own kids that his Evil Wife forced him into. and odalia is actively trying to get her husband and daughter killed now i guess, because even her previous reason of helping belos to secure wealth and status for her kids isn’t flimsy enough. and yeah they’re the exact trope of the irredeemable domestic abuser husband and the battered wife who never protected the kids but at the end turns out to Care About Them All Along and just couldn’t do anything because she was oh so terrified of her husband. except they didn’t even build it up. they built up a different much more interesting dynamic before they flushed it down the toilet to make it this dynamic. oh but the genders are swapped which makes it Subversive therefore Progressive therefore Good, i guess. i’m gonna need to write so many retcons for this mess.
