Well, I guess I'm writing a fic about a whumpee waking up somewhere with no memory of how they got there or, more alarmingly, who they are. They're injured and apparently alone, but their wounds have been treated and bandaged by a mysterious stranger...and they've possibly been restrained, but idk yet.
EDIT 1/18: I got the writing itch and wrote the first part of the option that was in the lead, "whumpee wakes up on an old train with no memory"! I plan on writing the houseboat one soon though, because I have an idea for it and I've sort of already started writing that too because I have no self control. Train drabble can be found here

The whumpee doesn't remember how they ended up in a soft bed, but what they did remember was pain, tears, bloodstained roads and ground, and someone who was possibly near to them...............dying.......
The whumpee opens their eyes to see a softly lit room, someone was sitting near their bedside; "oh, good... you've finally woken up. " The caretaker said. The whumpee noticed soft blankets resting upon their body. They turned their head slightly, feeling the pillows propping them up. The whumpee tried to sit up, the blanket sliding off their chest, revealing bandages wrapped up around their wounds and injuries. "Please lay back down. You're hurt." The caretaker worried, placing their hand on the whumpee's shoulder. The whumpee obliged; still very woozy from whatever had happened to them.
"I just wanted to know, considering your condition.... who did this to you?" The caretaker asked
The whumpee tried to recall, but it felt like there wasn't anything.........tears welled up in their eyes as the whumpee said....
" I don't remember ......".
The whumpee didn't have enough strength left to stay awake--or even cry. They felt themselves slipping back into the murky depths of unconsciousness, the last thing that they heard was the caretaker saying; "Save your strength, please.... everything will be fine, just rest...."

25. deadly illness
whumpee scrapes at the walls of their containment facility. scratch marks cover the concrete, their nails bloody from their scramble to escape.
“caretaker!” whumpee screeches, but their throat is already torn raw. they’ve been yelling for what feels like days. they can’t remember anything— their head is a mess, their vision pulses dangerously at light.
whumper watches them from the little window in their door. it makes whumpee feel like a damn lab rat. it should be the least of their worries, but it’s still horribly demoralizing.
whumpee keeps clawing at the walls. they’re so delirious that they don’t even notice whumper walking into the room.
“whumpee!” whumper says, cheery, and whumpee immediately spins around. they find whumper standing in the middle of their cell, wearing a lab coat and gloves. they immediately push themself up against the back wall.
“where’s caretaker?” whumpee asks. they try to be brave, but their voice quivers. whumper walks up to them. they put one gloved hand in their hair, and softly pet them.
“oh, them? they’ve been dead for years, whumpee.” and whumpee— whumpee can’t believe that. caretaker’s dead? just a few days ago they were fine. a few days ago. whumpee tries to remember the date but can’t. everything is so fuzzy.
“you got something awful growin’ in here.” whumper taps them on the forehead. they circle their head, apparently mapping out whatever awful thing is destroying whumpee from the inside. it’s big, whatever it is.
“you don’t have much time left, sweetheart. so until then, be a good subject for us, hmm?” whumper gives whumpee a hearty clap on the back.
whumper leaves. a few days ago, the confirmation that they’re just a lab rat would’ve made whumpee feel sick. but not anymore. whumper was the only thing that felt real, and if whumpee was dying anyway, they should have the small luxury of safety.
prompt from @whumpay

"Whumpers" is in quotation marks because they are actually Caretakers but Whumpee had their memories distorted. They see Caretaker as Whumper and vice versa.

A neat idea – or maybe not so neat, I'm just enjoying using it: whumpee keeping a journal. An amnesiac whumpee starting a journal, or multiple journals. One for present stuff, one for their jumbled memories of captivity, one for their faded memories from before. Jumping between little notebooks as they try to paint a clear image of their whole life.

I agree with your point about child whumpees, which is why i love super brainwashed whumpees i think. You can have them not remember anything other than pain and get to experience comfort for the "first time", but avoid the child whumpiness of it
YEAH that is also so good
I feel like I should clarify that while I’m personally uncomfortable with writing or reading about minor whumpees, I don’t necessarily think that it’s wrong to write minors in bad situations, sometimes it’s just part of the narrative (I know that regarding Cain or Wren there are things in their backstories that could count as minor whump, I’m just. Choosing not to write them even if those things are mentioned) and also when I think about it, a lot of the whump I enjoyed as a kid involved characters that were the same age at the time, written by adult authors. Personally though I generally write whump for the enjoyment of hurting the whumpee, while if I read one of those stories now as an adult I wouldn’t get that enjoyment, it would just be another part of the plot.

tropes for a character (a whumpee) who has amnesia
whumpee waking up from their coma with no memory of who they were, what happened. only that — according to caretaker — they were in an accident.
whumpee being kept in a room or was not allowed to leave the house. according to caretaker, this is for whumpee’s safety. but whumpee couldn’t help but find “caretaker” suspicious.
whumpee not being able to trust caretaker, they don’t know if caretaker really is caretaker, or if they’re whumper.
whumpee may begin developing some sorts of visions; could these visions be a complete hallucination with nothing more, or were they memories of whumpee’s life prior to their loss of memories? hmmm
inspired by Amnesiac (2014), one of my personal favorite movies

Vinca (Or: Whumpee Wakes Up On A Train)
Tumblr media
Ch. 2 ->
Yesterday, I made a poll (here) that asked if I should write about an amnesiac whumpee waking up in either a lavender field, on a houseboat, or on a train.
The poll is supposed to last for a week, but I am not known for my self-restraint.
So....I just finished a drabble for the option that's been in the lead for a while now, "on a train." Oops lol. Forgive me. I have an idea for the houseboat option that I'm really excited about, though, so I'm going to write that next! I already started writing it actually but I'm trying to exercise self control
First part of the train whumpee scene below the cut :D Thanks to everyone who voted!!
CWs/themes: amnesiac female whumpee; confusion; vomiting from panic; I love trains but idk how they work so if there are any inaccuracies here, let's chalk it up to the whumpee's amnesia
Tumblr media
When she looked up, there was fog and snow.
She blinked. The fog of her breath on a glass window pane dissipated, but the snow remained on rolling, bracken-filled hilltops that passed by before she could make out more than a first impression. Beneath her feet, the ground moved rhythmically, gently, clacking on something further below that made her feel warm inside.
A noise to her left moved her gaze from the window to see a lanky man in a Patagonia jacket walk by, grasping a metal pole that ran from the ceiling to the floor for balance as he passed. That must’ve helped with the rhythmic movement, she thought distractedly; it made sense. She turned her attention back to the window and frowned.
Where was this, again?
A sense of unease ran through her, and she tried to ignore it. She didn’t want to face it. She wanted to watch the hills roll by and think of nothing else, and if that failed, then she wanted to go back to her nap.
She couldn’t remember falling asleep.
I must’ve fallen asleep quickly, she told herself, and she focused on the hills. But that unwanted unease continued to grow until it wormed into her mind and made her wince. She had a hell of a headache, she realized. It seemed to throb every time she felt that unease.
No, it was better to ignore it.
“Excuse me. Ticket, please,” someone said.
She turned, expecting to see the man in the Patagonia. To her surprise, however, the person who had stopped by the seat in front of her was a plump middle-aged woman with a Polo shirt.
The seat – the train seat, she reminded herself; of course she was on a train, that made sense, she definitely wasn’t vaguely surprised -- wasn’t empty, as it turned out. The baseball-capped person sitting in the aisle seat raised their phone for the plump woman to scan with her own device.
She automatically looked down at her own pockets for her ticket, because if she was on a train, then surely she would have one – but she had nothing but her clothes on her. She lifted herself slightly to check the seats – velvet, dark green, pleasantly worn – just in case it had slipped through the cracks. But there was nothing.
The sight of her clothes sent that throbbing pain through her head again. She was wearing soft blue pajama pants, thin and almost as worn as the seats, and a gray sweatshirt with a logo she didn’t recognize. No shoes. No socks. No service, a part of her mind supplied, but she didn’t know where that came from or why she found it mildly funny.
She frowned. There were bandages around her legs, and her shoulder stiffened in pain when she bent down.
“’Morning, miss. Ticket, please.”
She looked up, nearly bumping her head on the arm rail as she did. The ticket checker stood with her weight shifted to one foot, eyes on her scanner and on autopilot. When she didn’t get an immediate response, she looks up. Her brow knit into a frown.
“Got your ticket?”
“Um –”
Her voice was raspy. She could go for a drink.
The ticket checker’s eyes were a lovely shade of blue, she thought as she watched them travel over her ill-clothed, unshod, bandaged form. Then they flicked back to her own and the woman said, “Honey, are you alright?”
“Oh, yes.” She nodded.
Suddenly, those eyes were more piercing than lovely. She shrank back in the seat.
“Where are you heading?” The woman asked, clearly forcing her voice to sound light.
She blinked. She…she didn’t really remember where she was going. But she must have some destination in mind; why would she board a train if she didn’t have a place to go?
“I…I don’t know,” she replied truthfully.
Her head pounded with renewed vigor, causing her to clamp her lips together to stifle a hiss of pain. Nothing felt right. Look at the hills, she told herself, but the woman standing in front of her commanded her full attention.
The woman in question gave her a strange look, but then she nodded. “Alright. That’s okay, honey. Can you wait here for me, please? I’ll be right back.”
“Thanks,” the woman in the seat answered, and it was as the ticket checker walked slowly back the way she’d come that it hit her.
I don’t know what’s going on.
She lurched forward, clamping a hand over her mouth as bile rose up her throat. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know where I’m going. I don’t know where I came from. I don’t –
I don’t know my own name.
Her heart pounded and her head throbbed with a vengeance. The whole illusion of peaceful hills and comfortable velvet shattered around her. How could she find any comfort in them when she had no idea who she was? A terrified whimper pushed past the bile and forced its way through her lips and hand, and her stomach churned with it. The train’s moving pistons no longer felt rhythmic; they were nauseating. The cloudy sunlight streaming through the window was too bright, the train car was too cramped, the arm rest was confining, god, her head hurt –
“Who is this?” she said aloud, voice cracking. Who am I? Whose body have I found myself in, and can that person take control, please? She dug her fingernails into her skin, but the pain did little to clarify. She rifled through the pajama pants’ pockets for anything close to resembling identification, hell, she’d even take a gum wrapper or something, but all that came up was a torn-off piece of notebook paper that had clearly gone through the wash several times. She unfolded it with shaking hands.
A portion of its blurred ink was just sharp enough to spell one word out.
Vinca
Her blood rushed in her ears. Vinca? Is that where I am? Is that…who I am?
The bile in her throat rebelled and she barely held the paper out of the way before vomiting all over the floor just as the train slowed to a full stop. She was dimly aware of the passenger in front of her picking up their bags. Dimly aware of an announcement over the intercom. Dimly aware of her own hands shoving the piece of paper back in her pocket. Dimly aware of the woman from earlier entering the train car again, this time with another person. Dimly aware of the doors opening, of harsh light pouring in like water into a submerged cup –
Incredibly, sharply aware of a person carrying a dainty black umbrella and a dark suitcase walking through the doors.
Her world spun as her eyes fastened on the new passenger. Whoever they were, they hadn’t noticed her yet. She didn’t know who they were, but she did know that her heart was pounding in even more fear at the sight of them, adrenaline was pumping through her veins, and her brain was telling her to run run run get away don’t look back don’t let them see you I don’t want to go back in the dark please please RUN THIS TIME --
The person turned and caught her eye.
Everything moved in slow motion around her. The plump lady moving ever closer. The person’s eyes narrowing. The bile easing back down her throat. The dry umbrella closing with a thwip.
The doors beginning to close.
“Wait!” The ticket checker lady yelped, but she was already scrambling down the aisle, barefoot and bandaged, to make a leap for the doors. She made it just in time. She turned around to stare in horror as the doors clicked shut, the person’s hand unsuccessfully pushing at them, the woman pointing her out, and then… …and then the train started moving again, and Vinca (because that was the best she had to go on for a name, even if she had no way of telling if it felt right) was left gasping for air and standing on an unfamiliar station, clinging to the paper in her pocket like a drowning woman to a lifeline.

Yuma from MDA: RAINCODE is definitely my biggest whumpee candidate of choice 🌡️💊
I don't think I've ever messed with any other character this much in my life as a closeted illness whump enthusiast before... X'D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at him. It's too easy... 😅 (I made all these edits)
Literally every illness whump lover has that one specific male character that they like to mess around with/torment the most. I see a lot of people focus on Voltron, Yuri on Ice, Merlin, LOTR, Marvel, BSD or even Danganronpa. But for me? I think this small amnesiac detective wins. There is just TOO MUCH bait in this game to NOT see him as physically weak and frail. (aka a perfect specimen)
RAINCODE CHAPTER 0 SPOILERS (kinda)
(the game even refers to him as such in chapter 0, hell that one moment of chapter 0 was bait enough for me along with what they said in the final deduction)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALL OF THIS WAS BAIT GOOD GOD.
(idcifthecauseofitwassomethingelseiwillnotletthatstopme)
Also HE IS ALWAYS HOLDING HIS HEAD LIKE THIS THROGHOUT THE GAME, HELLO? 👀👀👀
Tumblr media
Also also: Rain Code takes place in a city of RAIN.
What's that one glorious bs rule of anime?:
Stay out in the rain too long you get a 100 degree fever the next day or even later in the same day.
GOD IT'S TOO EASY
Bless Rain Code. And Bless Yuma Kokohead.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
I mostly torment him with fevers (bc its my favorite illness category and they look SO GOOD on him 🤒) but I also have sprites of him having a stuffy cold and ones where he's nauseous and post emeto.
The whole illness shebang~
Here's the post. You’re welcome 👌
He's just too much fun I'm sorry 🤷‍♀️
I’m happy I found my prime candidate after all these years…let me have this xD

when-when amnesiac whumpees instinctively reach out to their caretaker for support 😭 but what if whumpee find a better caretaker, or what if whumper pretends to be a caretaker, so it was caretaker who instinctively reach out to whumpee, not just because whumpee needs help but theyre also afraid of losing them
The body betrays what the mind has forgotten!
