            Your eyes were starting to water due to the number of flashes from the cameras that were going off around you. The bright lights made it difficult to keep your eyes open, but you knew that this was just part of being in the spotlight.

  Jack places a hand on your arm, slightly shoving you towards the exit. You ignore the yells of your name and continue to make your way off the carpet.

Your bodyguard, who had been standing nearby, steps in to create a path through the crowd, shielding you and Jack from the relentless paparazzi.

  "Did you talk to Jenna?" Jack asks, leaning close enough for his voice to be heard.

You send the bearded man a glare, shaking your head. "No. I don't even think she's walked the carpet yet."

Jack raises an eyebrow before turning his head to the carpet, which is still filled with celebrities and flashing cameras.

He scans the area, searching for any sign of Jenna among the chaos. He then turns back to you with a smirk on his lips. "I think you're just ducking her."

You roll your eyes at Jack's teasing remark.

"Please, like I have time to play hide and seek with Jenna. I'm just trying to avoid the relentless paparazzi."

You gesture towards the swarm of photographers jostling for the perfect shot.

Jack hums, his smile widening. A thought clicks into his head, causing his smile to drop.

"Oh, yeah! I talked to Melissa, and she is fine as fuck."

You thin out your lips. Jack probably didn't know she was married.

"I'll tell her husband you said that."

"You know what they say. Don't let your husband distract you from finding the love of your life."

You chuckle at his joke.

"May I say you look amazing tonight?" The interviewer states, smiling as they admire your appearance.

You smile, bringing your hands together to calm yourself before responding.

"Thank you so much."

"Are you a big fan of the Scream franchise?" The interviewer asks, moving their microphone closer.

You nod, your eyes lighting up with excitement.

"Absolutely! Ghostface is such an iconic character, and I love the twists that they put in the movie. It just always keeps you on your toes."

The interviewer chuckles, sharing your enthusiasm. "I completely agree! The Scream franchise has definitely left a lasting impact on the horror genre with its clever storytelling and memorable characters. Speaking of memorable characters, whose is your favorite?"

You pause for a moment, looking up at the sky as you bite down on your lip.

"Uhh... It's hard to choose just one, but if I had to pick, I would say Roman Bridger. I didn't suspect him at all, and his reveal as the mastermind behind everything in Scream 3 was a total shock. Plus, Scott Foley's performance was absolutely chilling."

The interviewer nods, appreciating your choice. "I couldn't agree more. He's surely one to remember."

You nod again, smiling. "For sure. I've always wanted to play Ghostface. Taking off the mask and revealing your plan must be so fun."

The interviewer laughs and says, "I'm sure you'd do great."

Before you could respond with a thank you, the interviewer speaks up.

"Jenna! It's so nice to see you." You turn to see Jenna, your heart dropping at the sight of her.

You force a tight-lipped smile at the brunette. "Hey Jenna, long time no see," you say, trying to sound casual.

Deep down, you can't help but wonder if she still thinks about you.

Jenna returns the smile. "Yeah, it's been a while," she replies softly.

Memories of your past together flood your mind, and you can't help but wonder if there's still a chance for reconciliation.

"You guys are so stunning, I can't even!" The interviewer gushes, snapping you out of your thoughts.

Jenna chuckles, her eyes meeting yours briefly before she turns her attention back to the interviewer.

"Jenna, I've gotta ask. Are you a fan of Y/N's music?" Jenna nods her head, glancing at you again before answering.

"I am. They're very talented musically, and I'm waiting for another album."

You try to fight back a smile, but it fails miserably. The interviewer notices your failed attempt to hide your smile and chuckles.

"Seems like there's mutual admiration here," they remark, noticing the subtle connection between you and Jenna.

You tilt your head, shrugging a bit. "I guess you could say that. Jenna's very talented herself, both musically and in acting."

Jenna feels the butterflies in her stomach erupt as you compliment her.

She's missed you, and she wants nothing more than to reconnect with you. She blushes slightly and responds, "Thank you."

You walk over to Jenna, interrupting her conversation with Percy. "Jenna."

Jenna turns towards you, a surprised expression on her face as she pauses mid-sentence.

"Come home with me?"

Jenna's eyes widen as she processes your unexpected request, leaving her momentarily speechless.

After a brief moment of hesitation, she nods slowly, her curiosity piqued. "Sure, why not? Let's go."

Percy furrows his eyebrows, watching you and Jenna walk off together.

When you arrive home, you take off your jacket and help Jenna with hers.

Jenna mumbles a thank you before making herself comfortable on the couch.

She looks around the unfamiliar surroundings, seeing as you've changed a few things since the last time she was there.

Jenna's eyes linger on a Polaroid of you and her, capturing a happy memory from months ago. Of course, Jenna still loved you, but was she ready to take the risk of getting hurt again?

She couldn't bear the fact that things might not work out between you two, causing more heartbreak.

Fame had always been a double-edged sword for Jenna. While it had brought her success and recognition, it also came with constant scrutiny and pressure.

It's what ruined you two. Jenna being constantly busy due to acting and you constantly being busy due to singing made it difficult for you both to find quality time together.

Despite the love that still existed between you, the demands of your respective careers created a growing distance that neither of you knew how to bridge.

You walk into the living room, two glasses of wine in your hand. "Actually," Jenna speaks up, and you raise your eyebrows in anticipation.

She continues, "Could we sit on your balcony?"

You nod, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "Of course," you say, leading the way to the balcony.

As you settle into the comfortable chairs, the city lights twinkling below, Jenna takes a deep breath and says, "I miss moments like this, just being together without any distractions."

You take a sip of your wine, pausing to savor the flavor before responding. "Me too," you say, gazing out at the night sky.

"I missed you."

Jenna's eyes soften, and she reaches over to gently touch your lap. "I missed you too," she whispers.

"I hope you know that I'm not dating Percy."

"I know," you reply, a small smile forming on your lips. "I knew you wouldn't downgrade like that."

Jenna chuckles softly, her dimples beginning to show. "That's hilarious."

A silence falls over the two of you.

"I couldn't imagine being with anyone other than you," you snap your head towards her, your heart swelling with love at words.

She always knew the right thing to say.

"You're the only one who truly understands me, Y/N." Jenna's eyes meet yours, her brown pupils glistening in the moonlight.

"I can't find myself being vulnerable or trusting with anyone else." She finishes off, breaking away from your gaze.

You don't say anything, you just place your hand over top of hers, which was resting on your lap.

I remember way back around October, I was in irl Mrs. Barah's English class, opening up the word document which held a rant I had typed the night before. This was the rant:

Jason blinked. “Who’s Tim Drake?” Jackie shook her head, eyes wide. “He’s only the legend and leader of the school. You know, a lot of people compare him to the likes of a mafia boss?” “Like, here’s a freshman who is an actual 12-year-old. Easy bait, right?” a student piped up. “Wrong. The so-called “12-year-old” is not only academically smart, but also politically smart.” Another student nodded, saying, “It had been barely three months and he already had blackmail on half the bullies in the school. He made deals and truces with the other half of the bullies. The minor ones cower before him, because in a span of three months, he’s managed to become all chummy-chummy with the big guys, when they’ve been trying for three years.” “No one has met a single person in the history of the school who is friends with the bullies, the students, and the teachers,” Jackie added. “Plus, he’s offering homework help and occasionally accepting candy as payment? Well, sign me up. Actually, I did sign up. I’m almost getting all grades above B on my final report card.” Alexander added ominously, “Majority of the girls think he’s adorable. The majority of the boys think he’s cool. The mean girls bend to his every will. The jocks give him hi-fives and fist bumps in the corridors and stick up for him in P.E. Obviously it's edited to be more comprehensible and integrated in the fic, but that was the gist of it. And from that rant, I wrote two series (and some fics in the Mafia Files and Packages that other cool writers co-wrote).

Two series that has been going on for a full year now.

i'm having the queer panic and i'm gonna yell for a moment

yeah life is too short for me to get all wrapped up in lables but this has been eating at me for weeks and i'm gonna yell for a moment. i'm feeling a lot right now and don't know how to talk to anyone irl abt this - so im screaming into the void... sorry this is such a mess.

all i know is that women are pretty and sometimes men are pretty but- they're usualy fictional (jackie welles cyberpunk 2077 and sangunius warhammer 40k im looking at you both in particualr) - i've known that for years. i've primaraly self id-d as a genderqueer lesbian since i was 17/18 - that label has always felt right - and it still feels right - even when i've dated men.

there's only been like one (1) guy irl i liked in recent years - we dated for a bit before he went off traveling. it was nice - it was cosy - but it just kinda felt like a friendship??? we both cared for each other and liked each other - yes - but to me - it felt like a super cosy friendship (plus smooches and hugs and hand holding and going on cosy dates to look at art??? ) - we were dating - but it was like a no lables no strings "just chill and vibe" kinda deal - which worked for us both.

yeah i thought he was pretty and kinda hot - but everything also felt so new and scary (maybe because i've never dated irl in my adult life)

I just saw him andwas like "wow you're pretty and cool and nice and i like you???? :) " and the more i think about it - the more i'm ripping my hair out because I can't comprehend romance - it baffles me to my very core - i find it so hard to differentiate romantic attraction and platonic attraction and also aesthetic attraction- maybe it's an autism thing???

starting to think i might be aroace - and a part of that is terrifying me (even tho deep down i know its not a bad thing) - i've only just come to terms with being ace - i will continue to sit with the feeling.

reminding myself it's ok. whatever happens - i'm ok , and will be ok.

general observations (cyberpunk 2077)

just to preface, i’ve not played through the main story at all since 2021 on my base playstation four and i’m currently replaying on my playstation five. i played as fem!corpo!v both times. this will probably have continued updates as i get further into the endgame.

“don’t look now, but that’s jenkins’ girl.” i know it’s probably not intentional but that sounds like a loaded statement.

the way kerry calls fem!v “doll” is so fuckin’ cute.

wakako calls her “honey” which again, very cute. also was dying at her “is this the dali lama?” when v sarcastically implies she simply couldn’t fathom murdering for money.

the peralez’s are one of those couples and i cannot get that out of my head.

fuck the voodoo boys. i didn’t pay much attention the first play-through and ended up siding with them because of how much the game makes it clear that you shouldn’t trust corpos and i hadn’t wrapped my head around the evelyn stuff. choose netwatch and felt a little better this time.

joshua still makes my skin scrawl and i dislike those like him irl but i wish we had more interactions like what happened with vasquez - him seeing v as a legitimate dangerous liability. (i’m genuinely surprised they didn’t do that with river, surely he done some digging into v?)

i’m terribly paraphrasing but i’ve noticed there is a couple of thugs in a coronado / arroyo side mission that are like “yo, that’s v.”

i saved brick and royce, kinda disappointed you’re stuck with royce in the totentanz mission - nice to see dum dum remember v by name and how nippy v gets over jackie’s mention.

royce - or millitech obviously kill brick because his grave is there

honestly i just wanted more of the ol’ samurai geezers.

i forgot just how many npc’s hit on fem!v in comparison to male!v like, fingers guards, jacob, the roadie, general population, the bargest guards when leaving the black sapphire (that might be both v’s), they also say “ooh! you little whore!” and also kerry’s “nice rack” dig at johnny. not to mention how many folk call her a bitch, slut, cunt and white during combat.

skippy’s disturbia never gets old, especially considering it’s seventy-years-old at that point.

i still don’t understand why there isn’t an option to give kerry back his guitar - that he clearly wants back - if you’ve met him before the padré side-quest.

really not a fan of having to build quickhacks when you’re essentially buying a blueprint.

“where’s kerry been hiding you?” oh he definitely told them the ‘new output’ shtick.

jesus christ it is so much easier to make money now.

i know it’s the future and things are a little more blasé plus he’s an old, jaded rockstar but i was a little taken aback with just how much kerry calls us cracks “whores, cunts, sluts and bitches” like chill.

a little disappointed aurore had no intention of fucking v.

i can’t stand grimes but i wish we had one more mission for lizzy wizzy

style-wise, phantom liberty is a massive step-up but the clothing in this game is atrocious especially if you want to wear anything girly.

corpo!fem!v is the perfect foil to johnny. also love how some the most notable people in johnny’s life are women. alt, rogue, denny, nancy and depending on your choice, v.

i don’t really ship johnny with v, but the “old married couple” dig was spot-on.

i’m personally conflicted on so-mi, but i’d probably lean towards saving her. that said, i fundamentally believe v wouldn’t. she’s looking for a lifeline and so-mi purposely dangled it over her. she’s not got beef with the nusa, they’re offering what so-mi cannot.

still cannot stand the photo-mode filters.

i’m forever curious about the sobchak cut storyline that was given to river and takemura.

vik’s mocking, “ooOOoooh” towards zetatech and not being allowed drink on the job.

leigh’s acting when johnny simply takes v’s body after the rogue arasaka mission and just the entire langley section are so well executed. v and river’s farewell’s in langley and in the badlands will always break my heart.

sampson’s grave just read’s “he loved his car.”

alright ! i've had a full 24+ hours to Process — which may have involved a bottle of prosecco ( i don't drink btw ) & going through a few waves of tears — & i'm here ready to talk about the finale. of.md spoilers below the cut, obviously !

some things i actually did like ( a short list ) :

the plot on paper. the beats of a good story were there but it was so rushed through & poorly executed that it just felt messy, unearned, slapped together.

ed thinking stede is dead & disassociating so hard he goes on a rampage & murders several of the soldiers in very sexy ways, ie: bayonet flip. also ed coming out of the ocean like aphrodite, ready to murder in his black leather. slay.

jim & archie kissing Like That before going to battle. also jim throwing knives from in the trees. very hot, powerful trans energy there, i really enjoyed it.

unfortunately everyone on the crew looked very sexy in stolen navy uniforms.

spanish "you best believe everyone in this household is poison trained" jackie.

zheng existing ( i would like to formally request a whole show about her )

stede yelling 'for love !' when attacking the british. romantic stede my beloved.

most of izzy's main dialogue — especially telling ricky that what really matters about piracy is belonging to something in a world that has told you that you are worth nothing. & yes, even most of of his conversation with ed. izzy telling him it's ok to just be ed ? killed me. & blackbeard was both of us ? don't even. i did want him to apologize to ed properly & am still glad that he did but be careful what you ask your god for am i right.

the final panning shot of the crew on the revenge. beautiful shot despite it all.

issues i had ( a longer list ) :

the editing ? why so many harsh cuts ? the way it was spliced together only contributed to the chaotic & disjointed feeling. & of course, the pacing. i think these two issues are connected & probably not the fault of the writers themselves. the show clearly really needed all 10 episodes to do what it really wanted to do, & this finale is just begging for that lost hour of screentime.

it wasn't even a good fuckery lol.

i wish lucius & pete's wedding had been... idk, just more. something more akin to calypso's birthday, a proper celebration for them. i also wish they would have given an indication they're still poly. "i now pronounce you mateys" was good tho.

ed apologizing & saying i love you & stede not doing either one in return. stede not being sappy in his irl fantasy ? impossible, im really confused by that choice.

0 resolution for stede's entire arc ? 0 indication of self reflection on his part ? & thus no resolution for the primary conflict of the show's central relationship ? they didn't even talk about their future, it just cut to them standing there & stede saying "so i guess we're innkeepers now" as if that's all he would have had to say about that ? i know that this show handwaves away a lot of things, like travel times & the realities of sailing, but i thought the story was literally about this relationship, & we don't get to see them decide on what their future together will look like. it's framed as stede just kinda going along with ed's latest whim ( since you know, they've always worked out soooo well for him in the past ) even though it's the exact opposite of what he's been moving towards personally lately, all without even saying a word about it ? i'm not even saying that i don't like this ending, but it just again felt so unearned.

very little actual resolution for ed's arc. his whole deal this season was about deciding who he wants to be, but he flip flops every time something doesn't go his way & the episode gave us no reason to think that would be different now with their inn. also he just killed a bunch of soldiers after having serious trauma surrounding the act of killing throughout the entire series, but i guess we're just supposed to believe that's ok, he's totally fine, he's an innkeeper now ! (will say more on this topic in the final section.)

poly things not being handled well or outright forgotten about. like olu / jim / archie / zheng has all the potential in the world for a beautiful poly love story & we barely got to see them interact together at all. & to think i was all :eyes: when izzy was dubbed the unicorn because i actually thought for a few episodes there that they might be doing the same thing for polyamory in s2 that they had done for queerness in s1, showing the audience that it's ok to see ourselves in stories & not just on the fringes, we're not stupid or freaks reading into something that isn't there. but turns out, it wasn't there, & i was the freak & the clown all along. live & learn.

the elephant in the room ( rip izzy you beautiful freak ) :

here's the thing. obviously i was never going to be happy that they killed my most favoritest old man. the fact that he's dead just when he found something real to live for is literally heartbreaking to me. but i could have swallowed it as a natural & important part of the narrative if one small thing was done differently: izzy could have had an actual sacrifice. & not for ed, but for the crew. after his speech about living for the crew, him choosing to act in a way that compromised his safety but earned their freedom would have felt like a completion of his arc. but instead it was a stray bullet to the left side which he earned in stede's so-called suicide mission ( don't even get me started on that line given where izzy started this season ), an injury which the show has told us previously is 100% survivable.

in the crew sacrifice scenario izzy could have acted as the symbol of piracy itself, a way of life that is dying. he is, after all, The Pirate (aside from blackbeard himself) on the show. & he has a history of letting shit slide that kinda doesn't align with the way of life they're trying to build on the revenge, not just in s1 but also in the scene with lucius in s2 ("& you? are you happy with all this?" "well, this is a pirate ship, & i'm a pirate so... yeah, i'm good with it.") ricky says they are at "the end of piracy" & izzy is the last REAL pirate (including ed because at this point as he is moving away from that life). & as izzy himself says in s1, "the only retirement we get is death." izzy also shows pretty intense self-preservation, & most of his shitty actions in s1 are motivated by often misplaced survival instincts, ("i'm not dying. not for you & not for that ponce,") so having him go against this longstanding character trait to protect the crew would have felt earned after his dramatic growth. it could have worked. it still would have hurt, but it could have worked.

instead, the way it is actually framed, the narrative actively robs izzy of this symbolism & instead makes his death entirely about ed & ed's relationship to piracy. having him die in a random incident & then having his death scene be followed up by ed finally "officially" (for the third time) giving up piracy honestly flattens everything i find interesting about them as characters & their dynamic to each other.

ed & izzy have very clearly been in clearly a mutually toxic codependent relationship (platonic or otherwise) for decades, but the framing of izzy's death being the only thing that can free ed from piracy (& blackbeard) turns izzy from a complex character of his own into a 2-dimensional plot device. & if izzy truly couldn't exist without blackbeard, then it would make sense — but we've just seen that he can, actually ! that he is a person outside of that relationship, despite what he himself thought for most of his life ! that they can both exist outside of them, & there is a very real possibility that neither of them actually need blackbeard anymore. so instead his death feels cruel to me. & because we know this is the show where injuries simply don't matter unless we need them to, we know that this was a conscious choice, that the writers genuinely felt he had to die for the story (ed's story) to continue.

& you know, that's fair on some level. he's the lead after all. but i also think this framing is actually kind of reductive to ed's character ! i don't write ed, but part of what makes him so compelling to me is that he is... kinda a "bad person," but he wants to be better. he's extremely complex. he has trauma & big feelings & he doesn't always act on them in the right way. & he feels guilt & remorse — he knows he has done wrong in the past & wants to be better, even if he doesn't always know how. & izzy has admittedly been an obstacle to him reaching that end in the past, but to frame it as if ed's actions were because of izzy, & actually izzy was making ed be blackbeard & manipulating him into doing bad things that he didn't really want to do, then i guess now that izzy is dead ed is free to skip off into the sunset happily ever after with his man ! the bad influence in his life finally gone, so he is all healed ! never mind that his most recent return to piracy & killing spree as blackbeard had literally nothing to do with izzy & everything to do with thinking he'd lost stede again. never mind that ed's trauma has its roots in things that happened to him before izzy (his father) & things that also happened to izzy (hornigold). nope, izzy was the real shackle all along. he has to die so ed can be free, & he only ever existed solely to develop ed's pain. that's what this narrative feels like. & i just... don't like the taste of it on any level. izzy says himself that blackbeard was both of them. so why does izzy have to die while ed gets to move on, given they both have shown the capacity to do so ?

the bit that i think i like least about how it's executed is izzy saying "i want to go," especially considering how he & ed are both shown to be actively suicidal in the opening of the season, & he has since started to regain his self confidence from that lowest point. & maybe that line could be read as him just trying to soothe ed in the moment, but idk, it rubbed me the wrong way for him to say he still wanted to die when in fact he had just found something he actually wanted to live for.

so ! i think that's all i have to say about that ! if you've made it this far, thanks for reading ! i'll be working today on writing up a basic canon divergence for both stede & izzy, since i don't like how either of them ended the season out. sorry, but stede's simply not ready to give up pirating just yet, even for ed. & in my head, izzy is fine because he was shot on the left side & "science" tells us there's nothing important in that half of the body anyway. : )

A/N: The last of the 3-part glasses collection that @iamvegorott and I talked about yesterday, this one with Phantom and Jackie. Also that title might just be my own thoughts irl.

“I’m home,” Phantom called as he closed the front door, kicking off his shoes and running a hand through his hair. “Jackie?” he called, frowning at not getting a response from the hero. With a shrug, Phantom walked through the house to the bedroom, wanting to change into one of Jackie’s shirts to keep comfortable and laze around.

He tossed his black vest onto the ground when he got into the room, making a beeline for the closet to pick out a shirt, not noticing Jackie watching him from his place on their bed. He shrugged off his shirt, pulling Jackie’s over his head, then kicked off his pants and left the closet, freezing when he noticed Jackie.

The hero was sitting on the bed, back against the headboard, phone held in his hand as he watched Phantom move, but the thing that made Phantom stop were the pair of glasses on Jackie’s face. Black, square frames outlined his eyes, making the blue pop more, and his eyebrows disappeared behind the tops of the glasses as he furrowed them in confusion, setting his phone down to give Phantom his full attention.

“Phan? You alright?” A shiver ran down Jackie’s spine at the look Phantom gave him, stalking toward the bed like Jackie was prey. He used a knuckle to push his glasses further up his nose, pausing when Phantom’s eyes darkened as they watched the movement. “Is it the glasses…?”

“I think I understand why Mare likes seeing Mad in those glasses now,” Phantom said, voice low as he climbed onto the bed, hands either side of Jackie’s hips as he held himself up to keep his face level with Jackie’s. “You look so hot in those.”

“Phan, you know I have bad eyesight, I just prefer to wear contacts. Why are you suddenly—” he was cut off as Phantom moved in for a kiss, nipping at his bottom lip and tilting his head to make the kiss deeper, moulding their lips together as warmth flooded Jackie’s body.

Phantom set a hand on Jackie’s hip, putting his other hand on the hero’s shoulder to slowly push him back onto the bed before crawling on top of him, and Jackie’s confusion dissolved when he felt something hard press against his thigh. He sighed into Phantom’s mouth as he began to rock his hips, holding Jackie still while tracing his collarbone with his free hand.

Jackie’s glasses went askew as he leaned back against the pillows, but Phantom held his hands above his head when he reached up to adjust them, removing his glasses and setting them on the bedside table as he went back to moving against Jackie.

“Wear glasses more often,” Phantom said into Jackie’s ear, moving to gently suck and bite at his jaw before stilling, and Jackie whined when he followed suit, squirming at the warm wetness in his pants. “But only wear glasses when I can see them.”

“Ph-Phan…” Jackie panted, coming down from his high as Phantom moved off him, moving stiff arms to wrap around Phantom’s neck and pull him back down for a kiss. “You have to clean us; I can’t move.” He let out a soft laugh against Phantom’s lips, cutting it off with a sharp breath when Phantom rocked his hips back down before pulling away and climbing off the bed.

“I’ll run a bath,” he explained to Jackie as he pulled his shirt off, stepping out of his boxers and heading for the bathroom. “I’ll come back and get you when it’s ready.” He smirked at Jackie’s hum of acknowledgement, looking over his shoulder to see Jackie lying blissed-out on the bed and planning some fun for the bath.

Here are some Jack/Chris headcanons 😳

-Chris was tasked with investigating Hades Inc and was sent undercover to be a student there

-He first met Jack in order to get information out of him but the guy just wouldn’t. stop. talking. All he did was ramble about art and shit. Chris thought he was pretentious prick and just ignored him for the rest of the day

-That did not stop Jack from being intrigued by this new, *really* strong blader though

-He kept following Chris around nagging him all day. In the end Chris finally gave up and challenged Jack to a battle. i genuinely don’t know who would win here but nonetheless, chris was surprised to see jack hold his own. When the battle ended jack immediately clung to him for the rest of the week

- at first he was really curious abt chris but the moment he got to know him was like “aw fuck he’s kinda lame,” but he ends up gradually falling for him nonetheless 😔

-idk there’s just something so funny abt these two having a cliche high school Romance while the high school they’re in is basically a giant, sketchy laboratory

-chris would have had ample knowledge about he academy by the time the world championships arrived, but he just couldn’t leave yet. there was just something abt Jack that drew him towards the guy. he was really the only person who talked to him at all, and he didn’t do “friendship” but. overtime he started feeling …. happier????? wtf is happening

-When the world championships came, Jack was sent away. He gave chris his number before leaving, and during the championships they maintained their relationship until hades inc finally got destroyed

-ykw would be so funny. if jack and chris started dating a little bit before fury. imagine the main gang finding the winter blader and it ends up being jack’s new boyfriend. and he turns out to be the most average-looking guy ever. these two are so funny yk

-the nemesis bladers approach chris and ask him to join them and he’s just like:

“hold on i gotta ask my boyfriend”

“this doesn’t include hi-“

“he said no”

-jack is very much a pet names guy. he calls chris the cheesiest things ever and chris pretends not to be flustered abt it cause he has a reputation damnit! but he does genuinely like receiving affection (he’s super starved of it so he jumps at every chance to get a hug from his bf ❤️)

”what if we called each other ‘jackie’ and ‘chrissy’“

“i am not calling you that”

“you’re so mean chrissy :(”

-in my mind jack is roommates with damian and chris hates him. he mistakenly called him a child once (1) and got punched in the gut. he’s held a grudge ever since. jack wants the two to be friends but everytime he turns their back they immediately start battling (with beys or their fists is up to you lmao)

-when chris receives the star fragment jack is elated. one cause holy shit the stars like my bf too. and two because YOUR BEY IS SO PRETTY OMG IT GOT AN UPGRADE. at first neither of them know what to do so they just ignore it until chris activates his powers and jack’s just has sparkly eyes when he sees the Pretty Pink Aura™

-jack asks chris to model from time to time, and though chris is a very busy guy and he doesn’t have time for this, he acquiesces cause he likes the amount of attention jack puts into drawing him. speaking of you bet jack has filled his sketchbooks with drawings of chris. he makes him look so much cooler than he is irl

-in return chris helps jack get better at beyblading. once he learned that jack did not a single match before the arrangements he made it his personal mission to teach him. yk that trope where someone is teaching another person how to fight and they like. tenderly fix their stance and shit. yeah chris is having none of that (”I know what you’re thinking, Jack, and I swear to god can you please just focus”)

-in the fury finale jack is with them in the helicopter. when nemesis is defeated jack immediately goes to kiss chris and half of the people there are shocked to see them together. literally know one expects it ever

-when chris returns from a hard trip jack immediately gets a blanket and some tea nothing else matters at that moment. chris vents abt work and the two gossip abt bitchy employers for rest of the conversation <3. on the contrary jack constantly complains abt rude or weird commissioners and chris adds some more people to his hitlist

-jack has an excruciatingly long morning routine so chris has to wake up early every day just to use the bathroom. he’s usually the one who makes breakfast which jack always rewards him with a morning kiss <3. Sometimes Jack tries to wake up early and make breakfast cause chris just arrived from a long mission and he deserves some rest. he skips most of his morning routine cause chris just naturally wakes up early (“I sacrificed my makeup for this, dear, you better be grateful”). Chris genuinely appreciates the effort jack makes so he promises to spend the rest of the day relaxing with him ❤️ 

-chris was actually in the audience during destroyer dome (he looks so plain he’d blend in quite well). it was jack’s first real match in public eyes and he wasn’t going to miss it for the world. until fucking jigsaw came and screwed him over. chris instantly jumped him later. like it was basically premeditated murder

-jack introduced chris to his therapist and they get therapy together <33. that’s it that’s the hc

I wrote this last night (and today, I added things). My thoroughly thought-out feelings, an update, regarding That 90s Show.

I know, to some, it's exciting to simply see T7S's characters on-screen again, to pass the torch to the next generation. And enjoy T9S for what it is, given the irl constraints. But to me, I have some very basic requirements, of which very few are met;

-ED are together (check).

-JH are together. (JK endgame, not check).

-It takes place in 98/99, when the gang's kids would reasonably be in their early teens (1995 is too early, not check).

-Eric has ventured beyond his fixation on his geeky hobbies (professor of Star Wars, the name Leia, not check).

-The next generation largely consists of characters that aren't copy/paste of the old (only 2/6 aren't, from what it seems like, in T9S. Not check.)

But everyone knows about those basic requirements, as I've elaborated on them before. Here, I venture into why T9S should (not has to) be unfathomable and unacceptable to a T7S viewer (even a casual viewer, perhaps. Can't JK be happy and less dysfunctional, at least?) and elaborate on the points above, given the information we already know;

Half of T9S suffers from vast OOCness:

-Jackie would never remarry Kelso, especially after he's clearly been a deadbeat dad to their son.

-Eric would never suggest the name Leia, because of its sexual connotations, and Donna wouldn't agree to it unless she was literally high. Which is a lot of pretzel twisting, btw.

-Eric's occupation (professor of Star Wars? I hope he's a film professor or something) renders his season 7 soul-searching arc largely useless. He never truly got beyond Star Wars and Donna, like he clearly desired to do (and would do, in most potential scenarios, as long as he went to college). It's a character backslide, with some aforementioned pretzel-twisting (see above), to say the least.

A fourth of T9S suffers from worst-case scenarios (aka, the kids aren't alright):

-Hyde has become like Bud and Edna, and has become a drifter of sorts (I'm guessing, since they probably won't mention him at all). I mean, he could be happy off in California or something, but if they mentioned him? Given how they butchered a happy JK endgame that most casual viewers would certainly prefer (see above and below), I doubt they'd go in a happy direction.

-Jackie desperately returns to Kelso after she and Hyde fall apart early in season 8. With a shotgun wedding to boot.

-Eric and Donna have a kid far too young. This isn't necessarily a worst-case scenario, but it's far from ideal. It lingers in the OOC category, too. Like, it could happen, but...eh. It's unlikely, since they learned a worthwhile lesson from the first pregnancy scare (don't just rely on the pill). And if an oops occurs anyway, unless Eric spills the beans? Abortion is undoubtedly on the table.

PS: Donna and Laurie are the only ones I see having an abortion under normal circumstances, btw. I know some disagree with me, but whatever. Agree to disagree.

-Kelso is a deadbeat dad to both of his kids. He hasn't grown up, at all, and has clearly regressed. Since (eventually) in season 6, season 7, and even season 8? He was determined to be a good father to Betsy. And in T9S, it's like Betsy doesn't even exist. :(

And a fourth of T9S suffers from logistical nightmares:

-Jay is too old for a solid chunk of season 8 to be canon.

-Red and Kitty should know who Jay is. Since they don't, this means Jackie and Kelso and Eric and Donna completely fell out of touch with each other some pt in the early eighties. But even then, Eric and Donna would obviously still be aware of Jay's existence, so...

-Eric and Donna are apparently dropping off Leia with Red and Kitty because Eric's teaching one damn summer class? Come on. It's one class, and the girl's fourteen. Not four.

In Conclusion:

All in all, it's general laziness and biases due to real-life events (the 1995 date being one, and current irl circumstances being the other), which render T9S dead on arrival. The foundation sucks, and the new kids are more of the same. With an external veneer of diversity to distract the audience from the interior copy and paste.

An Author's Note:

One is entitled to enjoy it and hold out hope, just as I am entitled to not enjoy it (and not hold out hope). I personally regard basic character development as essential, not character backslides (in the case of Jackie, Kelso, Hyde, and Eric) and pretzel twisting (in the case of Eric and Donna), to be imperative. In order to provide a solid foundation for a reboot to thrive. And it's just not there.

So, it's another season 8, but worse. Because it can't be fixed, unless fundamental elements (the miserable JK endgame, the name Leia, etc) are changed. Without those fundamental changes, it's nearly impossible to consume and enjoy, for me.

A Scattered List of Yellowjackets s2e1 Takes

Spoilers abound!

Between the Shaunajackie content and the Mistynat content I am THRIVING I am SO well fed

More specifically: I spent so much of that episode going OH NO, SHAUNA, NO. Still not sure how I feel about the adult!Shauna segments but the teen!Shauna segments were the highlight of the episode for me.

I'm so fucking glad Ella Purnell is still in the cast! I'm so shocked and horrified and delighted at Shauna hanging out with Jackie's frozen corpse. This is the exact flavour of unhinged that I want from Yellowjackets and from Shaunajackie specifically.

Misty is peak poor little meow meow here. I'm love her. Also: MISTYNAT REAL. One-sided at the very least!

Speaking of gay Misty moments: I ship her and Crystal. Is Crystal the reason she's so into musical theatre as an adult? Awwww.

I presume we're just retconning Crystal in but I am intrigued if there will be a reason given for why we've not seen her before? (I'm not complaining, tbc. I love her already.)

But also, like. The theatre kid-pro soccer player overlap is not very large, what's Crystal doing on the team? (Although I do know one person irl who sits in that overlap, so go figure.)

Lottie.......... ;-; So happy to see more of her. I think she might be becoming a dark horse favourite for me this season. That scream!

Simone Kessell is killing it as adult!Lottie so far.

Tai got some of the most quietly heartbreaking moments in the episode. I so desperately want her to be okay.

Tai and Van continue to be completely fucking adorable. So, so impatient to see their reunion in the present day. Vantai lovers to enemies to lovers, give! it! to! me!

Prediction: Javi is alive, and it's because he's found that weird underground tunnel thing that keeps cropping up in Lottie's visions.

"Army of Ghosts" thoughts

i really need to stop doubting russell. he put his whole pussy into some of these episodes

so this is one of those stories i've never rewatched, ever. the ending to "doomsday" devastated me so severely in high school (11-ish years ago) that i shied away from ever returning to this story. so far, it bangs

it begins w narration from rose about nothing ever having happened to her in her entire life, you can actually hear billie smile when she says "and then i met a man called the doctor" and like. i really can't stress enough. rose is the insane one in their relationship. rose carries the brunt of the derangement. house/wilson, hannibal/will, i am a huge sucker for pairings where the "normal" half is the sickest person alive and that is the most interesting interpretation of rose, to me. she is so bored of normal life that she would literally rather die than return to it, and she LOVES it, she craves it, the danger is the appeal not the doctor. she obviously has feelings for him (mutual) but it doesn't matter if he's ancient or ugly or whatever, she needs this life. rose is insane. bless

i do love her kindness tho. her being very delicate and gentle w jackie over the ghosts thing, reminding her that her dad is dead, saying she wishes she could smell the same cigarette smoke but she doesn't

and the doctor's reaction to the ghosts. "don't you think it's beautiful?" "i think it's horrific" ouch. he's right but ouch. i do think jackie has a point, though not the one she thinks she's making. the fact that people have the capacity to love so deeply, so intently, that they see blurry figurines appear out of thin air and assign qualities and personalities and scents to them, they see a footprint and vividly reminisce about the boot, i do think that's beautiful. the human capacity for love even in the strangest circumstances is, to me (a historian by schooling, vet med by profession) one of the most endearing, admirable traits of humanity

rose blowing off jackie's concern for her new lifestyle by being like "i worked in a SHOP" [ie my previous life had no meaning or value] and jackie defensively saying "i've worked in shops" yes girl. retail workers have value and are in fact braver than any us marine (source: worked in macy's on black friday). rose has this nice dichotomy that feels deeply real, where she is kind of ashamed of her life (living at home, working retail) but also protective of it (defends her mom, always makes a point to talk to "the help")

we get our first allons-y this episode

we also get the resolution to 1000 mentions of torchwood this season. my boyfriend actually didn't know torchwood was a dw spinoff before he started this watch w me, which is kind of funny. torchwood isn't really worth all the buildup, tbh. it's not worth the hype. huge shoutout to burn gorman tho, wildly underrated as an actor. "we must defend our border against the alien" and wanting to harness the power of the hole between worlds in order to "never depend on the middle east again" wow really not subtle here. even ignoring the plans to reinstate the british empire. davies is virulently anti-establishment in this show (and i assume irl) and it's deeply refreshing; i think doctor who can be a little too liberal-centrist for my tastes at times (capaldi zygon two-parter my beloathed grrrrrrrrrrr) so i really respect how often he went whole-hog acab fuck the government. it's one of the biggest reasons i'm excited to have him BACK

Psychology special interest acting up rn and I was thinking about the ask in chp 1 of MBC where someone asked if Dapper had DID. Well, based on how you describe writing him... I'm pretty sure you unintentionally gave him something close! There's a type of DDNOS system called a Programmed System which happens when an abuser (usually in cult situations) causes a dissociative disorder by encouraging the separation and distinctification of dissociative parts humans and especially children naturally have. Anti heavily encouraged the formation of Jamie's states of personality, to the point he practically acts like totally different characters between Dapper, Carver, Jameson, and Chroma. Especially since it's been happening since JJ was born, I think in an irl situation it'd be very likely he does have DDNOS since his personality states are a survival mechanism. Also, the whole system Anti had them living under is incredibly similar to the life systems and beliefs of "family cults" if you want to research it!

Having DID myself this is super interesting to me because I see some of myself in his journey. Bringing all the parts of himself together in order to just be 'Jameson' by the end of the story could definitely be interrupted as the system term "integration" where all parts come together and bring down their dissociative barriers using therapy. His whole character journey is very reminiscent of the journeys a lot of systems go through!

He's a delightful yet tragic character who's so fun to analyze and make art for! <3

this is freaking AWESOME i love the analysis and learning about new phenomena. I think it makes sense too from what you've said. one of the reasons I knew Jamie did not have DID in MBC is because he does not experience loss of memory and doesn't see himself as having alters, however I think it's totally correct that he sometimes feels influenced by different aspects of his own personalities and he does dissociate at times, sometimes seeming to become suddenly violent or suddenly sweet and cheery, as we see throughout the story. so this is really cool and I'm going to look up more about it. I really appreciate the input and analysis from someone who knows more about it than me and has some real experience with it!!!

as always, my stories are open to interpretation and frankly lots of the characters in MBC could be diagnosed with lots of different things... everybody has to abide by the stuff I make canon like Jackie being autistic and Jamie having a psychotic disorder, but other than that, everyone is welcome to speculate and I really enjoy different takes. I think Jamie can be particularly complicated because he actually does sometimes have memory problems moment to moment, but that's because he's a literal time traveler. plus he goes through so much emotional manipulation!! and has a psychotic disorder to boot. his mind is a very complicated place to the people outside of it - and a lot of the time, to himself, too. but when he's clear he's clear as day and he absolutely kicks ass

I think that part of the reason Jamie's recovery ends up being very different from the others is because he was so deeply entrenched in Anti's bullshit from the first day of his life that just being able to reach a place where he feels safe and sane and grounded in the time and place that he is in is a huge step for him. the others have to get back to that too, but Jameson genuinely needs time to understand that Anti is truly dead and isn't like living in the storage unit of his brain somewhere, and then he has to figure out how to live without him, something he's never experienced before for more than a few months at a time. he's extremely resilient

and YES in mbc they are DEFINITELY in a family cult and that's one of the reasons it's extremely difficult to leave. Anti teaches them that the outside world is bad - that they'll go to prison or be institutionalized or abused by others - as well as cutting them off from all other points of contact/social support. He creates creepy hierarchies and allows himself and the older siblings to punish each other, forcing them all to live by rules he decides on arbitrarily. he's emotionally abusive and makes himself seem all-powerful and inescapable whenever possible. constant surveillance and not being able to make choices about their lives... all five of the boys are cult survivors and i love that you brought that up.

i know kelso treated jackie shitty (damn i can't control the weather/cheating with laurie and most likely others no confirmation for sure for the others) but hyde would say mean things to jackie or invalidate their relationship or whatever. that was his schtick, hyde had 'issues' everyone in the show did but i think hyde had it rough at home, maybeits part of the reason he and jackie jived well because they both had issues with their parents/home lives. hydes were so bad that the formans took him in and arguably jackie too at one time before they were caught together. however the difference between kelso and hyde is hyde did love jackie but he would SHOW IT in his actions and less in his words. it was rare to see a sensitive side but when he showed it was lovely. he was more of a sarcastic type or dead pan, where kelso didn't give a shit, or played ignorant until it mattered 11th hour salvage and it was just complicated and jackie was pretty much done. neither was perfect. i really do not like that in that 90's show she's like with kelso (better than being with fez but irl mila and kutcher are together) but i don't think jackie was happy with either. kelso was a horrible bf! he had moments but he was horrible to her. she seemed unhappy with kelso from the glimpse we saw while married (their son is literally kelso too, yikes and jackie abandoning fez to run off with kelso storyline doesn't seem jackie at all!) obviously, we couldn't have 90's puddin'pops hydejackie in any capacity (is he canon like jail?) or not around for some other reason/relocated/off the grid (irl it was the allegations/case around masterson) but in the show maybe it was jail bc he always would joke about it/family in jail/being generally criminal/popped for weed who knows since 1979-1980 when t70's ended and 90s when t90's show started/was going on in like the mid-90's. also there were the 1980's drug scene/war on drugs times perhaps he got into harder drugs and then jail and stuff bc laws and he was anti pretty much establishment or heavily implied to be so yeah. jackie was obviously not a criminal so ...

am i making sense? i hope so. so there you have it. that's how i see it in terms of jackie's relationships on that 70's show/present. i'd love to hear what you think? (there are things i missed, unfortunately. idk where i left off but i do know about the endgame things. i do know that the last season sucked! that so many things were off probably contributed to its ending/rushed/unsatisfying endings for beloved characters and stuff with few exceptions.) let me know what you think?

One of thing I love so much about J/H is that they’re an ‘actions speak louder than words’ kind of ship. It’s wasn’t about status or good looks *cough j*lso*

Hyde treats Jackie with respect and loves her for who she is while also calling her out on her bs (Fez and Kelso worship the ground she walks on and Kelso seems too scared to call her out.) They don’t need any of that shiny stuff or status to show how real they are (which is why I lol at anyone comparing them to chuck/blair. They’re clearly dan/blair.).

Jackie inspires Hyde to be more in touch with his emotions and his softer side. He smiles more with her, he seems lighter around her. He can let his walls down with her. One of the only complaints I have about them is that sometimes I feel like Hyde doesn’t really trust Jackie. Like instead of confronting Jackie on whether she was cheating in s5, he ends up cheating. And in s7, when he saw the towel thing, he just left and fucked a stripper in Las Vegas. Not to mention that he STILL kept bringing up the “get off my boyfriend” incident TWO MONTHS after it happened. But for the most part, they’re a great couple.

J/K is self explanatory. Their foundation is bonding over their good looks and what not. There’s nothing substantial about their relationship. All they do is bitch at each other more than half of the time. Not to mention, Kelso kept cheating on her with no guilt. (He only felt sorry that he found out) Also I will never get over Kelso putting the blame on Jackie for his cheating. Like sir, there’s a such thing as having a conversation. Even yelling would be more mature than this or BREAK UP WITH HER.

I leave for jersey in 5 days and I feel really good about it. I get to witness one of my best friends getting married and even though I’ll likely be attending alone I understand that life just is that way sometimes and it’s just not my time. I still stand by my decision to heal. It’s just weird we would always meet at the train and go into Manhattan nearly every other weekend and she’d listen to me rant about jax and tell me she’s no good etc and she was right. I’d be lying though if I said I didn’t believe that aside from all that what me and jax had was so special we could get through it if we were both dedicated. That’s the problem though, free will, we really could’ve been the ones but it all came down to the fact that she didn’t choose me. Anyway enough about her.

I have a facial and hair appointment on Thursday and I’m so excited for both they are very desperately needed and my esthi & my stylist both have me chatting away everytime and I love catching up with them both. I’m holding space for liberty science center with cinco because I really wanna go but she doesn’t know if she can yet. Maybe Christian will tag a long as if we didn’t spend every second possible together while he was visiting St. Louis for 3 weeks.

Fuck, Jersey really fucking is my place as much as I wanna think it’s not. Just because Jackie lives there doesn’t mean it’s tainted but it makes me think I can’t go back. But all of my best of friends live there. I just don’t feel like I belong anywhere else like I did in jersey and that’s why I can’t let it go. An emotional first reaction to Arcane's finale

Anyway. When was the last time you sat down to a tv show that punched this hard and respected its villain this deeply? Silco is by far the most interesting character, and he carries the show on his scrawny shoulders.

Compelling if mysterious backstory, overcomes his demons and his traitorous brother in one fell swoop as he gains power. Silco's a zealot who dreams big for everyone. And yet in the end he finally understands why Vander did what he did. Finally has an emotional tie on a personal level that means more to him than the Nation Of Zaun, that big all consuming project that's been driving him from the start.

And yet in a completely masterful twist, Vander chosing his daughters over Zaun means the Status Quo, while Silco choosing his daughter over Zaun means War.

He gets everything he ever wanted. He's a villain who uses all ends to reach his goals and actually gets there, and the creative minds behind Arcane had the guts to make it absolutely irrelevant to his death. That is so wild, honestly. His love is his personal downfall (or more likely, the lack of mental health care in the Lanes is his downfall...) but he's never more human and more like Vander than when he dies...

For the creators to chose to NEVER redeem him, and instead just... humanize him to the very end... To let him say his piece and clear out misunderstandings and also to go knowing all his *fucked up* efforts fucking paid off...

Turns out Silco wasn't lying, not anymore than any of us do from time to time, even to our loved ones. Turns out that he was really worrying, really caring, and that it was really "just the two of them".

There's plenty wrong with Jinx's arc as a villain in the becoming, the whole "hearing voices makes me unhinged and violent" really isn't palatable.. it's an easy cop-out that puts people with IRL mental illnesses in another toxic limelight.

But there's incredible beauty in her being truly embraced by the villain, for the most wholesome family to really be with him. To be fought for as hard by him, as much as Vander did. Vi doesn't want Jinx. She truly wants "Powder", and even if she probably loves her and probably needs the mental help Vi would desire for her "to change" and "become stable", Jinx's toxic, zealot, asshole second dad loves her exactly as she is. Why the fuck would you not chose that side, being in Jinx's boots?

How did they manage to break the curse of video game adaptation?

Well, I think it helps that the studio itself retained absolute creative control. For once it's not a film industry giant buying rights and trying to do it's usual "adaptation" cash grab wringer. It's a studio getting another studio to work their (insane) magic and produce the best 9 episodes cinematic we've ever seen.

The vision was theirs, the story was uncompromising and unflinching.

I am not surprised the writing punches this hard. Video game writers know what the fuck they're doing, because they create immersive worlds and storyline in which the players/viewer is directly active. I mean look at other hard gut punches out there like God of War, Wticher 3 or even Jackie's arc in Cyberpunk.

But for them to stick to their guns to the very end... To give us characters this compelling instead of following the cliche route... For them not to betray us, the way so many other storylines do by trying something bold for a hot minute before falling back on tried and true cliches like deflating souflés...

Guys, I'm sorry but even Disney doesn't clap this hard. Arcane came on to the scene and swatted everyone aside. The visuals, the animation style, the music, the cast of character all painted in deep shades of grey, the riveting plot with its series of mirrored pairs going through the same divisive process... Arcane is the show we've all been begging for, but we were asking for it to the wrong people.

Bravo team. None of y'all will ever see this post, but know you're appreciated. You made me scream and choke up and built a whole new condominium in my skull for Silco to live in rent free. Fuck you and bless you, I love you guys.
